A $70 USD game on launch. This game had little reason to be a live service game, and yet it was.

While live service games require additional funds to sustain themselves, the value proposition that was given by the game was poor.

And clearly the market did not respond well to it as seen by the sales. Again WB has a history of game studios under them being made to do questionable consumer practices to extract as much money from the player.

No they did not put content behind a paywall but what they did, was have a gacha-esque premium currency called dragon krystals, again on a 70 USD launch title to unlock skins. You can grind for krystals, but the non paid ways to do so is slow and limited. So you can purchase them for additional dollars.

Instead of being able to buy the specific amount you want for your skin they package Krystals in such a way that it will either be too much or too little.

So say you want the Sub zero decption skin, it's 1000 Krystals, so you buy 1,250 for 9.99 USD. It's a 10 dollar skin. But wait on top of that they put it in a store that refreshes every 24 hours. So if you missed it, good luck. This tactic is just designed to create fomo in the player so they're more likely to impulse purchase.

WBD expectations & monetization requirements were too unreasonable and predatory and PFG bring s new studio was ill-equipped to handle a game of this magnitude.

MVS needed a dev team(PFG) with more experience on what works and whay doesn't. Couple that with a willingness & ability to change course. An important factor publisher (WBD) that would be willing to give give consistant support though time, funding, & advertising instead of short term profit at the expense of long term gains

They should open source the code so its easier to do stuff on it. Servers, modes, characters and many other things. The community could mantain it and it if it gets interest it could have the potential to stand a chance against smash bros, this time better bc oss

In particular, could go back to The engine they used in the beta bc current is worse.

We would have to do some ilegitimate stuff bc of the character licenses probably, unless wb supports the effort

At the very least we could modify however we wanted and bring it back online
