I feel like the whole problem with the game was that nobody was fun to play against. If they had actually balanced the game so that characters had strengths and weaknesses, that might've been different, but when every character gets buffed to oblivion constantly, and the power creep just rises and rises, suddenly nobody has gaps to be exploited, and everything becomes repetitive

Like, I legit feel like everyone in the game was annoying to play against, and in a fighting game, that's just a bad recipe. One person having fun at a time isn't enough.

The power ceiling routinely dropped in this game with every update, some characters did get buffed up, sometimes too much, but the levels were almost always lower. The entire game went to waste. I would've loved to play this game for my entire life and actually see it prosper in glory of esports. As a former buttbeater I loved the punishing aspect of the game that you could really combo and make new moves. The characters we won't be able to see like The Winchesters from supernatural, would've mained!!! I had more fun on this game than fortnite, that's saying something. Everything is expensive and some of the character lack some playablility, others are better than others and some don't do really anything. The A.I is trash.

The game actually went out of its way to be harsh to new players.

Relaunch in particular made it very hard to unlock characters, especially newer ones, then made it even harder with the road, made perk currency trivial for beta players and scarce for new ones, removed most of its tutorial, and made the login bonus, that should have been the first step to entice and retain players, a stupid background character when it could have been the Joker from the start...

I mean, I only played 64 and Brawl with my brothers, and yet with the beta tutorial and some practice I managed to hit masters here.

People always talk about how the game's poor balancing was the reason the game died, but I think the balancing pales in comparison to how it doesn't feel like a game. The balancing was an issue and there was a lot that could've been better, but initially when I first started playing the game I was having a ton of fun. But once the "new game" phase wears off after a day or two the game quickly nosedives into feeling like garbage. Every single other game I play ranges from exclusively being a game (e.g. Barony), or being a game with a bit of chores (e.g. Fortnite). Multiversus was chores with a bit of game. You didn't really get anything for playing the game, the only way to play the game was to go click "Play" and get randomly matched into a 2v2 or 1v1 against a random person, there was no social aspect, there were no other things to do other than randomly fighting random people in the same ruleset or that dumb PvE thing.

95% of the game's interface and menus were dedicated to a billion different mobile game things trying to nickel and dime you, and force you into playing because you're obligated to instead of you just playing because you want to play. It doesn't want you to play Multiversus because you want to play Multiversus, it wants you to play Multiversus because you need to taunt 5 times in PvP matches and win 3 games as a Bruiser and do whatever else, then come back and do all of that again tomorrow, and if you do this for a month you might be lucky enough to get one (1) character or whatever.

Multiversus was really close to being an awesome fun game but they genuinely didn't want to make a fun game, they wanted to make a money dispenser, and they messed that part up too so the game just sucks and is going away forever.

Their early models were one of the worst. Tying characters to it and making it a steep grind without earning xp per game made for a pretty awful experience. Their later passes were fine enough.

They rush out characters faster than most fighting games. Their monetization models were bad though. Making a free base roster and going in on skin monetization was probably a better idea but we won't get to see that in action.

People used to get really upset with new characters though when they came out busted. Like ppgs 0td or just jack being really strong when he released season 2
