There's a lot of will power that goes into slowing the game down and deliberately picking apart your opponents to have them do specific options for you to punish, it might not be as mechanically difficult as it is doing waveshines but it takes far more conviction to do imo.

I've been playing platfighters in the Smash series since Brawl and I've dabbled in PM/P+ and Guilty Gear Strive, the two games I've been playing the most being Ultimate and Multiversus. I think this game rewards more defensive play than it's peers yes but it's because of polarising designs and how volatile the game is, but I don't think passive aggressive gameplay killed the game

One of the biggest cultprits of this game's issues is its dodge system and how it treats aerials but that's a whole different can of worms

Advantage state is crazy in this game

Getting hit feels terrible, both because of the hitstun and hit pause which used to be even worse than now, being frozen out of the game for 5 seconds while in 1s you'll see 30 to 40 damage braindead BNB combos or insane pressure.

In 2s you can get stuck in a combo then be teamed on and go from 0 to 90 easily.

Jabs extremely powerful

Side switching jabs are unacceptable

Also the Dodge system is inconsistent and doesn't actually protect you from being hit so any character with long hitboxes or active frames can go through your dodges.

Many characters also are unpunishable

Banana Guard I'm pretty sure still can whiff and be unpunishable as well as a ton of other broken moves over the course of the games lifespan

I agree jabs are absurd both in terms of risk reward and sideswitching, but Multiversus doesn't actually have any tilt attacks to act as quick combo starters or anti airs so Jabs have to fill that role which is why I can partially excuse their strength but not side switching

30-40 dmg bread and butters aren't rlly that absurd for platfighters imo, most characters in most games can get that or close to it

2s is unacceptable though yeah, for the MAIN MODE it's extremely disappointing to see how it played out and it feels like a joke of a mode

Dodge system is again one of the biggest culprits of the games issues, I'll agree on that, I think if it DIDNT have the dodge symbol it would be better because you wouldn't get the indicator then still be hit anyways, but moves that cover dodges are just things that exist in other games as well lol

I'm a passive player because my character does not have the capabilities to be on the aggression, I do not have movement speed or fast moves to take the initiative.

And wouldn't you know it, he's bad when playing passive as well!!! But I'm not gonna whine about it because I would just quit and move on with life and go back to playing a different game if I was so against the way the game has gone

It's weird because specifically for TnJ they made them wayyyy better to both deal with passive playstyles and play passively, the 70% additional damage to shields given to projectiles made them chunk shields pretty reliably but if you try to use shield against Tom it ends up being a nightmare

Also I don't agree that 30-40 damage BNB combos are normal, It's something that's pretty normal at higher levels but you can't pick up the game and do the easiest jab combo of your life while the enemy is in full hitstun while also putting them in severe disadvantageous because there's no manual Teching, and SDI and DI can't save you.

Not really something worth complaining about when this is how platfighters that aren't pulling from Melee specifically end up going, at the start they are fast (relative to how they end up) and explosive then slow wayyyy down as the meta progresses

Multiversus is a lot more defensive than Ultimate, but trying to act like in platfighters everyone is just running at each other throwing hitboxes is foolish

If you run towards your opponent, you are taking stage control and as such have a positional advantage on your opponent, if they shield in response to your advance you can do a shieldbreaker as a response to this or remain at a safe distance to punish their potential out of shield option or grab them through their shield if your character has that option

Like Finn used to or still can hit you with a Jab or side air, carry you across the stage and put you in the edge and get a mixup and kill you at 50 and the skill ceiling is not insanely high

It feels unfortunate man 😢 I still feel this game untapped potential and wish it was managed properly and was given another whole year to fix everything. They really took the most ludicrous choices that just seemed to kill this game from rifts, monetization, broken slow gameplay and ui when they released it back. Gamers will give a game one chance and will never be back for it especially if it's a f2p live service game.

Man lmao that isn't a feature yet since the game was baked raw since launch and somehow worse than beta in every regard. The game is still on the road map of actually finishing the game but players didn't want to stick till season 5 for the gameplay to feel faster no wonder they didn't have time to do anything else. Even if this game wasn't shutting down this season the game still needs 5 more seasons to fix everything else.

Soo many features and soo many ideas and modes they could've added, but the game itself is a broken mess and the devolpers don't have enough manpower to achieve a live service updates while fixing a broken game and balancing it at the same time

yea, i was a person who was never invested in beta but saw the vision of the game during its launch (despite all the bugs/monetization, etc.) and its been a ride seeing this game for sure. i truly wanted the best from it and this team but its just unfortunate all together with this games run. hope yall at pfg can transition easily to something else in the gaming industry! this game got me through some dark times but im grateful for the experience we all shared
