the comapny who makes marvel rivals has released documents on their matchamking algorithm and it is designed to keep you playing until you ragequit off game, notice how if you're about to rank up you'll go on a loss streak, if you lose chances are the enemy has skins on making you want to buy them, the best way to play rivals is to play until you lose 2 ranked in a row then logout, your hidden 'churn' mmr will allow you to win when you log back in in an hour, notice how most games are a freaking blowout for rivals?

Fighting games in general are niche. In the case of Tekken, Street fighter, and guilty gear strive, they made the games easier to appeal to more casual players. Contrary to that MK1 is probably the hardest mortal kombat to play and subsequently it did worse than the rest of its competitors. Idk exactly where mvs failed in that regard but a shooter like marvel rivals is infinitely more casual friendly than any fighting game

A generic shooter that is just fun is the best way to go because they can put in any hero they want and they dont need a whole game built around them. MVS actually isn't horrible at it but they should have made it so your highest mmr character did influence the mmr of the characters you dont play it would have protected casuals better. As it is right now if I play jason or iron giant in unranked 1v1s ill verse people who play at masters level on their characters in unranked. But if I swap to say, marvin, I will verse a guy likely completely new to the game
