I’ve fought the #1 and #2 reps of the character multiple times and I don’t think I’ve lost a single set

I feel like I see statements like this relatively often in this channel: claims that BA is great in so many matchups. Whenever somebody counters that he is slow, punishable and predictable, someone else just does the politician spin - the equivalent of "I'm right and you're wrong."

Either this masterful Black Adam tech is being hidden behind gatekeeping, or this is your average troll campaign for an apparently much hated character. Maybe I'm just trash. I can acknowledge this.

But for the layperson, unable to devote the amount of lightless basement time it takes to hone your fighting game reflexes to EVO perfection, I think BA's kit is subpar compared to most of the cast. Bad startup frames and recovery frames. Slow movement outside of fly. Predictable. Bad hitboxes with few exceptions. Bad neutral, which also means difficulty getting kills. And poor meter usage.

Far more often than not, I find myself up against a patient opponent more than willing to play the footsies/dodge/fish game. And in that scenario, almost regardless of their character pick, BA feels extremely disadvantaged.

I'd truly, appreciate an honest conversation about why you think I'm wrong, though I'm sure I'll mostly receive a trollish insult wave.

Matchup chats become kind of arbitrary when all you need to do is win neutral one or 2 times to score a kill

I mean it’s obviously hyperbole but Black Adam’s win conditions are hinged on 50/50’s that will kill if the opponent guesses wrong 1 time. Say what you want about his kit but sair is easily one of the most overtuned moves in the game and I score kills at 40 or lower with it all the time cause all it takes is popping the opponent above you and guessing whether or not they’ll dodge left or right. This in conjunction with his already insane aerial presence from his fly makes his ladders extremely oppressive because you’re able to just wait for the opponent to do something in the air and act accordingly. This also applies to side blast zones as well. He has a massive, disjointed and powerful nair that will net you a kill if you guess right 1 time, an extremely powerful edgegaurding tool. I guess my point is it doesn’t actually take a lot for him to steal the stock and these methods are more than consistent.

They all hinge on you winning neutral, which you admit he struggles in against a lot of characters. But more than 1 time, as you say. If they are winning neutral 4/5 times, you're still losing that match.

In which case, it comes down to reflexes and skill. And if you can compensate with those things on BA, most of the other characters would be even deadlier in your hands

And I don't think you can say something is "obviously" hyperbole in a fgc forum. Because statements like that are true for some characters: 0 to death combos

I mean I guess it depends on the character you’re going up against. Idk if winning neutral 1/5 times is THAT accurate of an assessment for most characters in the game, but even if it was when you have infinite mobility on the ground and air via his side special meaning you can escape and reversal disadvantage situations alot of the time I think combining that with the previously discussed advantages state makes for a decent trade off with a struggling neutral.

Keep in mind I’m not trying to claim that he’s broken or anything or even great, I just think a lot of Black Adam players are way too doom and gloom rn

It’s costly in the sense that it drains meter but I fail to see how his meter management is any different from a majority of the characters in the cast now, it’s not like he can’t use the dash in burn out, he can. When superman for instance is in burnout, he loses armour. BA doesn’t have to deal with anything like that.

Aerial down b, down air covers lots of roll options, and you definitely can space clap, even if it’s more difficult now

And whenever you make a mistake you can dash away

It is rare that I run into somebody that isn't on top of me the entire time. Dodging every down air, down air special, clap, up attack and dash attack that I throw out. From which I am immediately punished with a true combo that tacks on 50+ dmg and leaves me in a position where a poor Dodge or di nets them a kill
