Imagine you had a counter for every frame rendered when you played a 7 minute (420 second) match. If your frame rate was locked to 90 then ideally you would have 37,800 frames rendered throughout that match. If 1/4th of the time was spent only having 10fps from constant random stuttering you would have rendered 26,600 frames during the 7 minute match meaning you have less performance. Not having fps instability and drops means you have more frames overall and thus, increased performance
