Can you screenshot the error message?
Also after verifying make sure you've checked all of these:
I don't get any error message the game simply closes itself

How to fix Installer Errors
- Make sure Hollow Knight is CLOSED.
- Make sure that the Installer isn't in your Downloads folder (Desktop or a folder on the same drive as your game install is best).
- If the installer is in a
.zip, then you must Extract it - Right-click the installer file, and select "Run as Administrator"
- If Lumafly is automatically closing, you may be missing a system file to open it. This is currently easily fixed by running the older installer, Scarab once.

Assuming you're on Steam then verify your game's integrity, then reset your global settings

now the game launches but the mods aren't there
even after launching modded from lumafly?
when i try to launch from lumafly I get this message "your pc doesnt have any app that can open this link" probably because i don't have admin rights on my pc

but i downloaded steam using a .bat file since otherwise i couldn't download it
weird, but either way Lumafly should still be more reliable at installing the api than scarab, so you should still stick with Lumafly and install your mods with it, in theory you shouldn't need the launch modded button from Lumafly

i reinstalled a mod and the game started crashing again
i verified the game's integrity it reinstalled some files
the game was launching but with no mods
i deleted and reinstalled the mod and it started crashing again

thanks, it's possible that one of those mods broke due to the relatively recent api update, you can try following these instructions (which were originally for non windows users for a different issue, but apply to everyone in this particular case)
To any Unix (Linux/MacOs) users
There was a recent update to the modding API which seems to be causing an issue on non-Windows systems. Until the proper fix comes out, you will need to change a modding-api setting:
- In the same folder as your save files and global settings files, you should find a
ModdingApi.GlobalSettings.jsonjson file. - In that file add a
"PreloadMode"field if it doesn't exist already and set its value to"FullScene"- -# Ideally you'll want to switch that value to
"RepackAssets"once the update that fixes the issue is out.

The global settings reset deleted it and apparently the game crashes before being able to generate it again, so first disable all your mods, see if it launches, and if it does then the file should be there so you'll be able to edit it and then enable your mods back (and if it doesn't there's a different issue)
i launched the game without mods and the api version appeared in the mod list
i enabled back all the mods and it crashed
and the modding api global settings file got created
i changed the value and it's finally working
