#Been trying my best to troubleshoot my HK Custom Knight, but it just won't work.

I found a really cool skin mod and it made me finally get Lumafly for Custom Knight. I always used Nexus + Vortex before for my mods, but I've looked up that they really shouldn't conflict. However, no matter what I try when I install satchel and custom knight, I always get "Custom Knight: Failed to call constructor! Check ModLog.txt" and I don't know what to do now. It's not a skin issue, it just genuinely won't let Custom Knight work. I'm adding here the modlog that is directly from the last time I launched the game.

Hollow Knight Mods are not compatible with Bepinex Mods

Mods installed from external sources from the installers (ie Nexus or similar) will not be compatible with mods that are on the installers. If you install Bepinex in your Hollow Knight install and use Lumafly/Scarab, then you will have issues, and your game may not function correctly.

You can use Steam's Verify Integrity options to remove Lumafly/Scarab mods, but you will need to follow Bepinex's instructions for uninstalling that instead.

Thank you, I was wondering if those were the issue but google was being a liar

Google doesn't really know much about modding HK. Also almost all mods on Nexus have similar mods on lumafly.

Yeah.. also had a question in addition to this. I have my skin folder now, and it's in the CK skin folder. But it won't appear yet. Do I need to manage the extra folders that are inside the skin folder first? Because it has these four folders (The swap folder has more folders inside it) and I'm wondering if I need to pull stuff out of the folders then move the folders somewhere else

don't mind all the images looking blank, my PC's file app has been annoying today

Common issues

  • If the Skin List is covering up other mods, you can toggle it with Del (or fn+Del on some configurations). You can edit this Keybind in the Custom Knight menu.
  • If your skin doesn’t show up in the menu, make sure that you extracted it from the zip/rar/etc it came in (tutorial: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1207486627124093019/1403869873192571024/i.png).
  • If your skin isn't working, go to Options > Mods > Custom Knight > Advanced > Fix My Skins. After this, you may need to use the Reload option in the previous menu.
    • Upgraded Dream Shield (UDS) breaks Custom Knight’s launching correctly the first time. To use both mods at the same time, you must disable UDS, open a save with only Custom Knight and wait until it stops lagging. You can then close the game and enable UDS again.
  • If you see lots of White Boxes ◻️, restart your game. You may also need to try applying skins in a small/empty room, like a stag station.
  • Make sure that you apply skins from the Pause Menu when you have your save file loaded. Skins applied from the Main Menu will only be used for new files.

Troubleshooting

If your problem isn't fixed from the Common Issues section above, then please create a post in #1047056433767796766 with the following
You must post a screenshot that shows:

  • Where you installed the skin
  • With the directory bar visible
  • With the skin images themselves visible
  • Example screenshots (yours should look like this):

The folder structure needs to match the example there

#

There will be some additional folders inside the skin folder, but if the skin folder iyself is inside extra folders it won't work

So, I have it here

#

should I just restart HK and see if it shows up now?

#

when I did it before I was trying to fix it all and place it in while the game was open

#

Nvm, got it!

#

It's working now

Yeah, it's best to do any mod changes with the game closed. With skins the "fix" button can sometimes resolve it too.
