Hollow Knight Crashes upon opening after installing a mod ⚠️
This error can happen for a number of reasons. Read through all of the common reasons below to see which might apply to you.
-
Your game patch doesn't match the installer you used
- Modding is currently done on patch 1.5.78+, and this is what all current installers require. If you're on Steam, then make sure you are not accidentally using a Beta patch (Beta should be set to "None")
- "Mod Installer" ( Zote) and Mod Installer 2 are made for version 1.4.3.2, and should no longer be used. If you watched or read something that said to use these, then it is outdated information.
- There aren't installers for other patches, like 1.2.2.1. If you are looking for speedrunning mod help, then type
?tag 1221into chat for more information.
-
Something didn't install correctly
- Right-Click the installer, and select "Run as Administrator"
- Ensure that the installer is not still in a
.zip file(if you downloaded it as a.zip, then you'll need to Extract the files from it) - Make sure that you moved the Installer file(s) out of your Downloads folder
-
Your game is cracked / pirated

- Piracy is not supported in most communities for games, and discussing it is against Discord Community Guidelines. Mods are not considered compatible with pirated copies, and you will not get troubleshooting support in any of the main servers for them.
- Modding is only supported on the official computer versions from Steam, GoG, or Xbox Games.
- If you do not have a supported version, then please get it and then you can get support with modding. Asking for assistance with unsupported versions may result in moderation action.
- Hollow Knight goes on sale regularly, and you can keep an eye on this website for when it is: https://isthereanydeal.com/game/hollowknight/

- Screenshots of the issues / errors (How do I take screenshots?)
- Post your
Modlog.txtfile if you're playing modded (this is found in your Save Files folder, which you can learn how to access by typing?tag modloginto chat)- -# This is required if you are playing modded. This is not required if your problem is getting the game to be modded.
- What Operating System you are on (Windows / MacOS / Linux / Other)
- What patch are you on (This should show on the main menu)
- What Mod Installer you are using (Lumafly / Scarab / HKMM / ModInstaller1 / ModInstaller2 / Other)
- What platform you are playing the game from (Steam / Gog / Gamepass / Cracked / Pirated)

I'm going to be real, since this is happening even in vanilla, I'm not 100% sure why you're asking here, since it's clearly not a modding issue. This seems more like a general computer issue that you're having
If you want you can pay the information that you're missing above ^
In the same folder as your modlog is a Player.log which may be very important
ModLog
