Common issues

  • If you're using MoreSaves, type ?tag ckbug
  • If your skin isn't working, go to Options > Mods > Custom Knight > Advanced > Fix My Skins. After this, you may need to use the Reload option in the previous menu.
  • If The Skin List is covering up other mods, you can toggle it with Del. You can edit this Keybind in the Custom Knight menu.
  • Make sure that you apply skins from the Pause Menu when you have your save file loaded. If you apply a skin from the Main Menu, it will only be used for new files.
  • If you have White Boxes ◻️, restart your game. You may also need to try applying the skin in a small/empty room, like a stag station.

Troubleshooting

If your problem isn't fixed from the Common Issues section above, then please create a post in #1047056433767796766 with the following
You must post a screenshot that shows:

  • Where you installed the skin
  • With the directory bar visible
  • With the skin images themselves visible
  • Example screenshots (yours should look like this):

MoreSaves & Custom Knight bug

Using these two mods together causes an error until Custom Knight next updates to fix it.

The problem happens when using MoreSaves to play on a save file that isn't one of the first four, which completely breaks Custom Knight as it only expects the original four. This not only causes glitchy things to happen, but can also make other mods not work correctly.

Work around

You can press the 📝 button on the Custom Knight entry in Lumafly to edit the Global Settings file for it, then add entries to the SkinSave section at the top.

You need to add 4 entries for each page you have in MoreSaves (so if you have 3 pages, then you need at least 12 total entries)

Important paths

Notes: These assume you're using Steam, with default locations. For GoG, locate your hollow_knight.exe folder, and then follow from there. The Save Files location is the same for all versions (except for XBox Games) and additionally contains Global Settings as well as your ModLog.txt.
Note: Most mod installers have buttons to open these folders for you!

  • **Windows ** 🪟

    • Save Files: %APPDATA%\..\LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight\
    • Game Files: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hollow Knight\
    • Mod Files: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hollow Knight\hollow_knight_Data\Managed\Mods\
    • Simple method to find Saves folder:
      1. Press [WindowsKey] + [R]
      2. Copy & Paste this: %AppData%\..\LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight
      3. Press [Enter]
  • XBox Games 🎮

    • Save Files: %AppData%\..\Local\Packages\
      • You'll need to look for a folder in here with Team Cherry in the name
    • Game Files: C:\XboxGames\Hollow Knight\Content\
    • Mod Files: C:\XboxGames\Hollow Knight\Content\hollow_knight_Data\Managed\Mods\
    • Some notes about this version:
      • This is the version for Gamepass and the Microsoft Store on PC; you cannot mod the XBox console version
      • Microsoft does some weird things with how it treats this install, and it syncs the Game Files (and Mods) to a hidden folder that you cannot interact with. This means that it may take a few minutes for any changes you make to take effect, and it also means that there can be bugs with installing/uninstalling mods.
  • Mac OS 🍎

    • Save Files: ~/Library/Application Support/unity.Team Cherry.Hollow Knight/
    • Game Files: ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Hollow Knight/hollow_knight.app/
    • Mod Files: Right-click hollow_knight.app, and select "show contents", then navigate to: contentsresourcesdatamanagedmods
    • ||Please double check that you followed correctly. The Unix versions of the game have multiple folders with the same/similar names, and it's easy to go to the wrong folder||
    • Simple method to find Saves folder:
      1. Open Spotlight ([Command] + [Space]) and type terminal
      2. Press [Enter] to open the terminal
      3. Copy & Paste this into the terminal window: open ~/Library/Application\ Support/unity.Team\ Cherry.Hollow\ Knight/
      4. Press [Enter]
  • **Linux ** 🐧

    • Save Files: ~/.config/unity3d/Team Cherry/Hollow Knight/
    • Game Files: ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Hollow Knight/
    • Mod Files: ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Hollow Knight/hollow_knight_Data/Managed/Mods/

I'm also having this issue - can you please provide more information on how to implement the workaround, specifically on what/how adding entries to the Global Settings file looks like?
Additionally, sometimes the button for opening the global settings file for my customknight is greyed out and inaccessable, what does this mean?

Well, did you look for the SkinSave section in the global settings, as explained in the bot's message? It's an array, so you can simply add more entries by following the pattern, an element followed by a comma per lines (except for the last one which shouldn't have a comma).
You can also try to manually install the beta of the next ck update, which fixes the issue, that you can find below .
For your second question, usually that button is greyed out when a mod's global settings file doesn't exist, it shouldn't randomly become inaccessible.
And finally, as asked in https://discord.com/channels/879125729936298015/1047656117913800704, please create a new post for your issues instead of reusing already existing ones

When you open a large document, and there's big, bold, red text that you have to see while the document is loading, you wouldn't ignore it, right? Because that sure would make you look pretty silly, wouldn't it?
