I think homeschooling depends on the state you're in, but I think as long as you don't fall behind on your online courses and try to find extracurriculars, you should be good

I am a student from India studying in class 10th in an IIT-based school. I am writing to you seeking guidance on the process of pursuing undergraduate studies in the US.

I just want to give information regarding my current situation and basic information about me.

I am interested in pursuing my undergraduate studies in Artificial intelligence in the US but to date, I have not focused on extracurriculars or any activity as my school is IIT-based.

Our school conducts weekly IIT syllabus tests, considered important by the school (in maths, physics, and chemistry which are not part of grades or officially recorded), the general grades aren't given importance or focused on. I got around 80% score or 8.0 GPA on average to date in high school

I am sure I can show an very good grades for the rest of high school when I switch to undergraduate preparation in the US.

But I am not sure whether I will be able to get into top universities even if I put my utmost effort into getting into top universities because, till the first half of my 10th grade, I haven't done anything to get into universities in the US. Moreover, it would take a few months for me to adjust to the new IB board.

here are my doubts regarding my decision to pursue my undergraduate studies abroad:

1. Is it still possible for me to get into a top university or maybe a good university when I start my preparation at the end of 10th grade?

2. What would you recommend, to change the course and prepare me for an undergraduate program in the US after the 10th
   I don't want to switch if there is very little chance of getting into good universities abroad if not the top ones.

3. If I do switch could you give me brief guidance on how to start things from the summer holidays after the 10th?

1. Yes, while colleges do care about your gpa, if you are able to score well with the IB board, they'll be enthusiastic to accept you, besides extracurriculars. Ofc, extracurriculars are not that easy to just do within two years, and you have not much leeway, but if you spend your time in an efficient way, it's possible!

2. if you end up scoring well in IB, the SAT, and Doing extracurriculars alongside your IB school, it is extremely possible for you to get into good universities in the us, so it is still worth it to change to that IB school. Also, the IBDP program is quite well known, and if you are able to get a good score within your IBs and a good GPA, that provides a strong foundation for your admissions (besides extracurriculars ofc)

3. during the summer break, you should ideally plan out your school year, and look into extracurriculars. You should also not pile in too many extracurriculars during the first part of your IB school year, as it would be pretty hard to adjust to the new school system already. Also, you should probably first find out your interests right now, so that you know the best extracurriculars for you.

1. Yes. It's never too late to try. Do your best to research the best high-value extracurriculars for the path you want to go into and take the SAT if possible. Additionally, find the most relevant AP exams to you and find a test center near you that can host them. If that doesn't work well, there's always the option of Canada too (Indian students are very welcome here) and it's really grade-focused rather than extracurricular-focused so you'll have a good chance to keep that as your backup if you aren't able to get into the US unis you want.

2. If there's the option of a better and more rigorous curriculum, 100% take it if you can handle it. US unis look for the opportunities you've taken compared to opportunities you were offered. So therefore, you'll need to take the most advantage of what is given. They'll care (as specifically mentioned on a lot of websites of top schools). Look at what the person said above for IBDP.

and yeah last one is just academically prepare and grind extracurrciulars

Honestly, giving the AP exams is not that important if you go to the IB school you already talked about in your message. The only reason you would do them is for the college credit, and getting a 5 on multiple is great for admissions, but for the price they cost in India, I'd say they really aren't worth it.

I would recommend not depending on the teacher. Just because the teacher doesn’t teach you well, doesn’t mean students can’t do well in the subject. If you have a textbook, definitely use that and online sources. Ask other people in your class or ppl who have taken the course before for help. If u have access to a syllabus, would recommend using that so you can get ahead and come prepared to every class. Hope this helps! :)

Hmm Depending on your math course maybe try to find a textbook from a local library. Ex. If you’re in an algebra class try finding an algebra textbook from there. Or you could get a used book from Amazon (but I know textbooks r pricey). So library may be the best option. Or if that doesn’t work, search the topic on YouTube. There r some good videos out there.

Hello, so I've been comparing studying at home and studying at a library and found out my productivity increased so much at a library. Problem is, the library only opens in weekdays (not weekends). How can I study as efficiently as in a library, but without going there during weekends?

I don't know what causes it. I still have my phone at the library (which is my main distraction), but somehow I can control myself to not use it. Instead, I can distract myself really easily at home, specially with history and geography
