I’m sorry to hear that. Make sure you try and get help of some sort, even if it’s just asking a friend for assistance. I’m also quite stressed when it comes to school but just know that what’s important is that you focus on yourself. Make sure YOU are ok, not just your grades (if that’s of any help)

If you’re worried about this affecting your uni decisions, then be assured that whenever unis say their process is holistic, they will look at the opportunities you were given and how you used them (if AP or IB wasn’t an opportunity, then it doesn’t impact you at all)

Same here, this is just what I’ve compiled, pretty general but I’m in this w/ you?

Don’t be a jerk, don’t be around jerks, check yourself (academic, personal, etc), don’t do stupid things, if you like people, then have fun since there’ll probably be quite the number of people you’ll find, but if you’re not a people person (as I’m not), at least still try to talk w/ 3 or so teachers sometime in your 4 years for those nice letters of rec (if you go to uni)? And at least one student, perhaps.

Make a plan, find out which colleges/unis you want to go to (non-Ivy/top 20s as well, you need some decent places you’d like that aren’t nitpicking you for not solving world hunger yet). Find out if you actually WANT uni (straight jump into career, community college, trade/vocational, etc). If uni (especially if away from residence), know how to cook, do your own laundry, etc. If other, try to see if you know anyone who’s taken these paths (or just search the Internet), plus probably the above too.

Appreciate current relations since chances are you won’t have them so dearly close in ~4-5 years.

Find something you actually enjoy. Bonus points if it pays.

Don’t drive faster if it ends up crashing the car.

Don’t assume you’re (or any real/Internet person’s) a genius because you/they either searched something up or wrote a paragraph.

im a rising sophomore taking 3 ap classes next year (seminar, world history and psychology) and i want tips regarding how i can become a better student overall as im currently rank 1 in my class of over 500 and i intend on staying around top 5. i genuinely feel that i'll burn out through out the course of high school seeing that i may not have what it takes, however, i don't know how to prevent that. (i also want to take at least 4 or 5 aps in each of my junior and senior years). as for extracurriculars, i have nothing special going for me because i haven't started a sport although i will next year. i participate in some clubs but i have no leadership roles. overall, i want to challenge myself over the summer by reading, studying some precalc and possibly studying for the sat which i have no idea how to do. also, would anyone happen to know extracurriculars which look good on your college appilcation as well as courses to take? thanks

Go to khan acvademy for SAT prep, imo it's the best. Literally any extracurricular is good, but I'd recommend getting involved with any student leadership-related things (my school has forum council which I'll ask about in a sec.) I can't stress how important extracurriculars are. As important as GPA and classes are, extracurriculars make or break the student. Preferably start a club, lead some others, do anything that shows leadership. Don't get too stressed out about APs, I'm only going to take one or two my sophomore year just to show colleges that I CAN do APs. I will do more in the future, but first I'd recommend showing other parts of you than just academic.

And that question about forum council:

In my school, we have "forums" instead of advisories (basically the same thing) One or two of the people in each forum needs to participate in forum council, and each year, our entire school votes for who will be the forum council president and vice president (or co-pres/vp.) I'm going to a be a sophomore next year, and I really want to be a VP on the forum council (and Pres the year after that.) How do I campaign? Is it too far to talk about my grades? i need help deciding on what i should actually do for the next 2-3 years
i am a 16 y/o music producer from kota, india and i want to get into MIT, but the problem is that i dont have my own narrative, all my childhood ive done really nothing that makes me stand out and have just started indulging in hobbies 2-3 years ago
when it comes to studies, im not all that passionate, as in i dont want to do stuff like research. idk, ive just never really have that kick in me to study something. and it has affected me when it comes to studies, but i never really could do anything about it as i just didnt want to study. i dont know, i can top at like 3-4 hours a day at max, but not more. and the reason why i told you which city i live in, is because this city is built for studying, where 11-12th graders come here and prepare for JEE and NEET and i really lack self discipline. like really badly, and ive been trying to fix it but, well, it takes time i think.
like i said i have no narrative, i had made no hobby growing up and have just started something since i was 12, and now i just want to do music and some other things and excel at them. i just realized that however much i try i dont want to study, so ill just get good grades at a normal school where everything is normal. or do i just keep trying harder and take advantage of this studying atmosphere?
because these guys also help in the preparation of big olympiads like IMO, IChO, IPhO, you get the idea, and i dont want to waste that opportunity. maybe i can just concentrate on my hobbies, and when the time comes, study for JEE and get a good rank?
i have more things to my hobbies then music too, like art and ill maybe add programming too, but for now i dont know
