i'm not entirely sure about theory though, I think all instruments do the same theory/harmony+counterpoint syllabus

theory/harmony+CP is mostly based off of the piano because of the visual, the structure, and convenience

99% of higher level musicians would know how to play the piano and the theory that surrounds it

so i highly suggest you get familiar with the piano when starting theory since its usually teh reference point

for math you basically want to first know how to do it

even if you don't understand why it works

once you master how it works you need to know how to do it in word problems

there's usually a pattern in all similar topic word problems

like in linear equation word problems you're gonna need to find the slope and y intercept somehow

usually if you do this long enough, you just end up knowing why it works

math is very foundational so make sure you actually know your topics
