But I'm going to assume that you already have a point
Next, you would want to bring up some case studies. Case studies where the mother tongue is significantly better taught than in english
China, countries in UAE, Japan
These are just some of the examples of countries that have their mother tongue taught in all subjects
Especially China and don't be afraid to look into chinese websites for case studies, get a feel of their culture, a feel of students perspective
Remember, a Debate is essentially fighting with words. All the information you've absorbed is essentially your 'ammunition' and you have to keep driving evidence into your elaboration.
Reinforce your argument with Hard, Cold, Fax and evidence.
Now, remember. Debate. Debate debate. You need to have that confidence. That backing and attitude in your voice like you mean it, that growl that will send your opponent to think "Wait is my argument valid?"
This is not a debate anymore. This is mind games.
On top of this mind game, think about your opponent's moves. What moves do you most expect from your opponents? What arguments do you think they will have?
"Math should not be taught in our mother tongue because it will leave students dependent on the language when it is used outside of their home country"
And then you jab in with a statistics "80% of mathematicians found a career within their home country"
BOOM, their argument is invalidated and now they look stupid.
Finally, at the end of your debate, there is a closing statement. The number one thing that people forget is they don't cite their evidence.
The reason for citing evidence is so that your argument seem valid and supported
You want to convince your audience that you're more competent than your opponent
And that you're not pulling things out of your ass
This is comparable to that of a court case. Whenever a lawyer cites a case from previous rulings, they say something like "Kennedy, J.F. 1969"
It makes your argument feel like there are some foundation and it is backed up from researches, philosophers, idealists, students
As Shadow has said, Confidence is key. You don't want to stutter, you don't want to look stupid. Show no remorse to your opponents and make sure that they regretted the day they tried to argue with you about not tutoring students in their mother tongue.
@south karma Ping me for more elaboration
I know this might seem kinda trivial, but I just can't think of any, are there any wedges (as in the simple machine) in a bike?
teeth on the chains
they're slanted in the shape of a wedge
@lavish fable screws can also be classified as wedges
Ah, thanks a ton!
Can we ask homework questions here or no
yes
I had a question about AP macro economics
if consumer income decreased, what would happen to the equilibrium price and quantity
I think that both of them decrease, because the income decreases how many are being bought and the supply tries to lower prices to get more people to buy it
please let me know tho!
yes, you are correct. both will decrease
dw I failed microeconomics (didn't take macro). i got a 1 💀
it's funny af because i got a 5 in psych
and those were the only exams i took
so a 1 and a 5

for economics questions in the future, feel free to use #social-science-help
🙏
Wow- that was amazing! Tysm! And I might ping you again to get a few more points but that itself was amazing!
what is misc
Miscellaneous
How are you suppose to take Cornell notes
andrew getting ready to ping a tutor
Lucky to not be one of those he'll ping
Hello Yuuki
hello
nothing
Alright

Then let's start from the very basics
i genuinely barely passed music because my teacher was kind
Do you know what is music?
yeah
What is music?
random sounds that mix?
You know what, I won't fault you
In the most technical form
Music is a set of sounds that manipulates a certain type of emotion
Billie Eillish has a form of emotional connection that relates to struggle and sadness
Justin Bieber is a fuccboi
Music can be produced through any medium
Mediums such as Instruments
whats a medium
A medium is a tool
A tool or an object that you use to produce something
In this case, instruments are tools to produce music
oh
music is a pattern?
Yes
i see
There are some music that does not follow a pattern
Those are called Soundscapes
Where it is a chord of sounds that replicates an atmospheric tone
It can be happy, thrilling
hm
However, most music follow patterns
And it is our job as music students to look at these patterns and analyse them
How do these pattern work? What is within these pattern that makes music?
Let's look at some music sheets
alright
okay
Let's break this down
hm
In the lines here, there are 2 lines separating it
The lines that separate 4 notes each
Usually, a pattern involved 4 beats
4 beats = 1 bar
Here we have a Quaver
so its 3 bars
those r quavers?
Yes
the quarter note specifically or all them notes?
Just quarter notes
oh
In 1 bar, there are 4 beats
1 beat is 1/4 of a bar
That's why it is called a Quater Note
But their actual names are called Quaver
You don't see it in the music sheet but
my teacher calls thrm wuarter notes
This is a minim
whats that
My teacher calls them crotchets
But different culture have different names for them
So Minim
Looks like a quarter note but white
This is 2 beats
half of a bar
You can call it half-note but know that the name is Minim
would u mind if i record this conversation?
Sure
alr thx
So after minim
We have
A semibreve
It accounts for 4 beats
There are 4 beats in 1 bar
This is the big mama
So in a music sheet with 4 beats per bar, this note should be used by itself in 1 bar
so i will call this a bar note
why?
I got mixed up
oh
hm
It accounts for half a beat
There are 4 beats in a bar
yeah
1 beat is one quarter note
0.5 beat is one quaver note
So in a bar, there should be 8 of these
Yes
Just a couple more things before we look at Ode to Joy again
This is the icon and symbol of Music
also known as the Treble Clef
that looks incredibly fancy yet looks hard to draw
so from what i see the bigger the note the smaller the beat
like the bar note looks tiny
Hue I guess
but the quarter note is long
Let me show you
Uh
Ignore the Dotted Minim
That is 3 beats but not essential for basics
You see the dot on the right?
yeah
That means "Make the note half as long"
So a half note, 2 beats, becomes 3 beats
a bar note, 4 beats, becomes 6 beats
half as long?
Good job
So back to Treble Clef
It represents the melody
The lead singer of a band
hm
If you're playing piano, whatever is on the Treble Clef, is a high note
In comparison
This is a Bass clef
Also my favourite music symbol
This is the background, the bass, the boom
Low notes
wait what so notes have height now?
We can get to notes later but for now, let's focus on beats
Note height refers to the Pitch
alright
my teachers homework is literally figuring out the tempo of a song or idk i forgot
okay so lets go bsck to beats now
Okay
So as you said, Tempo
Tempo refers to how fast the song is
Tempo also refers to how fast each beat is
So if you have a fast tempo, you have fast beats
Slow tempo, slow beats
It's like comparing Joji Dancing in the Dark to
Katy Perry fireworks?
oh
Katy Perry is fast
Joji is slow
I think we can go back to Ode to Joy
Ummm
I hope this is bigger
yeah
As I've taught before on pitch
The notes here have different heights
The higher the note is on the sheet, the higher the pitch
And vice versa
Hmmm
Do you want to vc?
i dont have a voice
alright go vc then
im here
i hear
but im 25% so my device coukd go out anytime
hm ye
ak ak ak ak
a half note is 2 rite
i see
nope
7
but i literallt didnt care about grade 6 music i ignored
so i still tap 2 times with half note right
oh ye i forgot beat and thingye
is it the same for all the other notes too?
that popular song
sound fast
upside down notes wtf
so an upside down quarter note is still the same
i see
cause like it feel like im learning a new language
ur a musician?
oh
is music very easy in high school
cus im junior high
is it compatible for ipad
alright
time to install garageband
i just dont get it tho
why do i need to learn music
when im not gonna be a musician
hm
its not like ima listen to steve lacy and say “hmm this tempo is very slow and the pitch is medium”
i still see ur point tho
i dont like the song because the artist is controversial
when r u gonns be online?
im
ima message u again, bye ima sleep cus its 11 o, here in da philippines
bye.
gn
hey, eggy here?
@nimble drift oh my god my sister is forcing me to complete my homework but its due tomorrow
i cant sleep
Hue
can u help me with this i just wanna sleep
musiko (again)
i need to figure out the time signature, function, mood of the song and tempo
and find 5 musical charecteristics that i found in these folksongs (?)
Hmmm
@nimble drift is rhere a music bot here
inv me to a server that has one and we wilk discuss
same except for an hour
Why not just tell me the song title?
okay then
“Doon po sa amin”
“Sitsiritsit”
“Kataka-takang Mahibang”
these r folksongs and they have meaning
I see it
i wanted for us to listen to i csn tell u the lyrics but i realized im not a good explainer
Hue
wht does hue mean
Kataka-takang is pretty joyful
It's like lol
There's a male and female voice
Talking about falling in love
You can say it's romantic
oh u found the one with the boy and the girl
Yes I did
the boy is playing guitar and theres subtitles right
Yeah lol
alright nice
sitsiritsit is a humor song btw
@nimble drift r u listening to them
the kataka takang is kinda fire no cap
the others r mid
Time Signature: 3/4
Mood: Happy, romantic
Tempo: 150
sitsiritsit is about replacing your child with a doll
how did u know waow
Hue
Practice
Sitsiritsit
This is a website which lets you tap along the beat and tell you the tempo
ohh
which song r u gonna play next
Sitsiritsit
alr
Time Signature: 4/4
Tone:
Tempo: 88
I'm not sure about tone for comedic
I guess it's humourous
music gives me ptsd
lol
just play by ear
I don't even know how to read sheet music
or any music theory
Percussion moment
Time Signature: 4/4
Tone: Peaceful, Longing, Loneliness
Tempo: 60
I'm not gonna learn how to read sheet music
for Doon Po sa Amin
it's too much effort
your intense typing 💀
hang on let me show y'all why music gives me ptsd
@nimble drift do you know the royal conservatory
I listen to Classical Music
But I don't know about this Royal Conservatory
oh
welp
basically practical/theory/history exams for music
60 was the passing score 💀
totally
sorry i ghosted u my ipad died @nimble drift
i-
rich people nitro
excuse to type fast lol
I can go faster ngl
I can go to 120 wpm probs
It's okay lol
now we just need the function
I'm not sure what it means by Function
Also
Change tempo of Kataka-takang to 75
done
wht even is function
I don't know hue
Function can mean a lot of things
Let me see
Does it mean chords?
The key signature?
wiki says In music, function (also referred to as harmonic function) is a term used to denote the relationship of a chord or a scale degree to a tonal centre.
I might be able to help
Yes please
I did this 3 years ago and didn't do it again after that so i'll just pray i still know what to do
@gritty nest can you send a screenshot or photo of the piece
They are given 3 folk songs to listen to
Determining function chords are the worst from listening
can you find the music sheet for those songs
Let me see
oh
function
as a box
hm
nevermind that's so weird
because for harmony/counterpoint, you usually write it below every chord in the music
aight
Hue
Hue
I'm guessinngg
This is a translation error
And they're actually talking about Key signature
lets focus with this first
oh key signature then
what do they mean bt musicsl charecteristics
G Major
r u a musician
@gritty nest Put 'G Major' for Sitsirisit
tempo, pitch, rhythm, harmony, melody, dynamics
alright
thats all i can think of off the top of my head
Ducc, yuuki asked a question
what about doon po sa amin ane jataka takang
this looks like A# Minor
putting a# minor in
no way
I don't play often, I just completed all my qualifications
Wow
Bb major
I completed none of any qualification
B flat major
Yeah looks right
ill put “B flat major” ?
She doesn't know symbols hue
Mia || 🇨🇦🇫🇷
like that
tf
.
im putting that in
I was opening up Microsoft paint
LMAO
It was the last resort
the flat symbol looks a little different from a normal b
like that
whatsever, it's fine
as per tempo, i might need to play it out 💀
thats just a slighty modified lower case b
okay then how do i do this
I tried
absolutely beautiful
my math teacher is a pro at ms paint or canva or any pc drawing
i'm not sure what your teacher wants
I'm not sure either
he wants a wife
wait my music teachers a male, or female (idk)
But if it's as Ducc said then just shove it in
^^
i forgot aswell
actually
@gritty nest is that all the questions?
lets just do activity 3 tomorrow
Oh alright
yeah act 3 is last
Get some sleep yuuki
I'll take a look at 'Music characteristics'
And see if any of them fit the theme
@mild frigate thank you
no problem
WAIT I THINK I KNOW WHAT IT MEANS NOW
i gotta sleep cause i need to wake up at 5
what is
in folk songs, the melody is usually repeated throughout
the character in the song?
that's one common characterisitc
oh
Hue
hue
folk songs also might be in question-answer format
Yeah yuuki, you're learning the hue
similar to prelude/fugues if you know what those are
It's like a giggle
melody + answer
hue
i read that as prelewd
yes
It's exactly that pronunciation
lewd has a diff meaning tho
And you shouldn't be knowing the meaning
And yeah, I can see how that characterises folk songs
- There are specific notes/theme repeated throughout the song.
- question + answer format
- Simple, with minimal embellishments or dynamics
hang on
let me think of more
The Melody is repeated throughout the song
i never done this before
This is grade 7 music
mb for saying that lmao
it's not melody
it's a theme
melody is the main voice throughout the song
I also have not done this
theme is a specific part repeated, it characterizes the piece

Pocoyo
which instruments did they use
you can talk about those in the musical characterisitcs

yes
ima sleep
yes you should
gn everyone
goodnightyy
Goodnight Yuuki
I have never felt so frustrated with music theory
I thought I knew enough to atleast answer the question
💀
i've never been so confused by what teachers were asking
I'm just always so used to the functional chord symbols, roman numerals thing, composing with counterpoint, analyzing music
I need to regrow my braincells
and analyzing music from a technical perspective
I've played instruments and played in my local orchestra
But tbh, I hated music theory with a passion
SAME
omg
you haven't experienced the true pain of music theory though
let me show you my harmony/counterpoint exam transcript
What are other pains are there
Music and Exam are two words that should not go together
i lost so many marks all throughout the exam
You know what, I'm not even going to try to analyse this
yes
don't
i messed up so many times
But they look so well doned
LMFAO I FORGOT THE STEM ON SOME NOTES 😭
Hue
thank you
It's a tailless crotchet
i was crying during the exam
i was dying internally
and then it just ruined music for me for the next few months
yes
I have a violin and a chinese flute
I can play it someday on VC if you like
They're not my strongest instruments but it's what I have
OOO
It's okay, it's all over
barely
Still got the paper.
yes
ARCT is like the highest of the highest levels (I did the exam once and failed miserably)
it's like a teacher qualification
Awww don't label yourself like that
$0
not yet
Too expensive
passing score was 60, i got 34 💀
yes
okay true
i made a come back in 2020

That's really impressive already
I see some people charging for classes with only experience from their school band
bruh
that's just
messed up
there's real teachers out there who can teach the real deal
(not me though because I don't even know it myself)
thanks
It's just easy money
Besides, the basics are easy enough to teach
yes
Real teachers on the other hand are hard to find
and expensive
Upwards of $200 usd per hour
And that's what my friend had for her violin classes
My piano teacher was $1 per minute
Did she also went to the toilet for 30 half of the session?
It's just a factor in music
But yeah, I live in a predominantly asian community
And the stereotype of asian parents wanting their kid to learn violin or piano is very true
To the point where they one up each other through much they pay the teachers
YES EXACTLY
Hue
Hmmmm
And that happened to me I guess
I played the piano when i was 3 all the way until now, in the beginning it was a personal choice and they didn't want me to do it
But I didn't have a violin teacher
What's going on lol
but then when i became "good", they started forcing me
SELF LEARNING?
I'm channel hoping how
yes
Now that's just weird
Yeah
oml
I like the violin
you're a god
I'm still bad at it though
i tried to learn the violin but got kicked out of the class
I don't blame you
that's pretty good that you taughtyourself though
I used to have a violin teacher
My mom saw that I liked the violin when I was younger
And then she brought a teacher
But I disrespected her until she refuses to take my mom's money
It's just weird to be taught 1 to 1
moment
i get taught 1 to 1 for most of my stuff outside of school
if it's for academics, it's because i'm a dumbass
I used to have a personal trainer for speed skating before covid
Speed skating?
you'll get used to 1 to 1 lol
yes
I was literally on track (haha see that pun) to becoming a professional
hue (yes ikr)
Mia
Mia
Know what
This was where China cheated
I'ma pfp steal

Nah
wat
moment
Oh right they didn't
Yes, china number 1
Peter parkers
LMAO THE NOSTALGIA
HUE
China>>>>
They look like ducks
THE BEGINNING OF THE RACE FOR 1v1
👀
i would remember just praying i don't fall
and then when the person pulls ahead but you're in the outer loop, you just feel bleh
go karting is the reason my mom wont let me drive irl
I would love to skate
Same
But I physically can't do anything anymore
Oh wait, that might just go in comp science
speed skating is literally go-karting but on ice and better
more mind + body coordination
Plus more hazards
I have a very aggressive driving style
oh yeah almost died twice
Hue

Soooo my parents think I'll do it when driving
LMAO
Ah yes
Nah like
Go Kart = real driving
I too ram my car into someone else when they overtook me
Eggy pulled a mazapin
No I drive a porsche
Nikita mazapin 101
Well this has been fun
I still don't like 1 to 1 sessions, it's like way too intimate to be put in a room with one other person
I'm going to look up speed skating and go karts
and goodnight to the two of you
Hi
I'm doing accounting atm and can anyone pls explain a brief definition of 'expenditure' and give examples pls thx
sorry for the late reply but good nighty to you too!
This might can help
And this too
Hello:) does anybody knows how I could explain the American enterprise system to a group of middle schoolers?
My pleasure!
BTW I am sis ..not bro😁
Anyone knows what will we learn on 8th grade in chemistry?
I wanna start learnint asap so i can ace my first exam
solid liquid gas
differences between atoms and molecules
basics of oxygen nitrogen and hydrogen
chromatography
diffusion
filtration
catalysts
theres a lot more
btw these are uk topics
@smoky kite
hmmmmm
I saw some formulas
KS3 Chemistry learning resources for adults, children, parents and teachers organised by topic.
this is a topic list for for uk peeps in grade 8
grade 9 stuff
u have to learn most the numbers by heart when u get to grade 12
Thats chemistry
.
Like we learnt about molecules, states of matter in biology and physics
makes sense
The formula was in the first page of chemistry textbook and it said to make it correct or smth so i looked up how to do it
u probs just needed to balance it
my lowest
I have every subject at about 85-100%
My lowest was physics at 85%
The rest about 90%
i had covid for 2 years
where i just watched anime with the bois online during class
was fun af
...
Depends if im lazy
Oh ye makes sense
schools would bring u in even if u were dying but if u started giving it to the teachers they would force u to go lol
Well good to know im not the only one
Well my mom says i should go as well
So i just go
Anyways
Any black girls in the server can help me out real quick?
why do you need black girls specifically -
It’s about hair type
I wanna wear an Afro to school tomorrow but I’m not sure if mine looks ok to wear
that looks cool af
fr? thx
tons of girls at my school wear afros like yours, i think it's amazing
no worries
oh wow thx my dad had mentioned to comb it out a little more
Yeah I’ve never worn an Afro before so I was a little nervous
that’s true I’ve been worrying about what others think before I even became a teen 🤦🏾♀️
I'm not an expert with hairstyles lmao but you could try following your dad's advice
I don’t want ppl to judge me tho at the same time
awh :(
yeah I might plait it tonight and then comb it out tomorrow
cmon you'll be alright. people will get used to you after a while and just accept who you are
I literally wore a cow costume to school every now and then to troll my friends
like back in 8th grade LOL
i was crazy
sounds great :)
dang 💀 I could never lmao 🤣 I have strict parents so I never really even had costumes growing up
Dang lol that’s kinda sad but like freeing at the same time
yes
hang on let me show you the photo of me in 8th grade wearing a cow costume in the cafe
hang on where tf did it go
okay i got it
@short hatch me in 8th grade
this is proof i literally did not give a fuck about what other people thought
💀😭 dang the costume looks really good on you
u should bro
but my new teachers might think im mentally incapable of being in the class
impress all the people in ur grade lmao
I doubt the chill ones would care might even see it as cool
yes
Ikr imagine having such a cool cow costume
imagine if i start a cow cult

lol the new cow polar express
yes
It’d be a hit
im literally in the shape of a cheerio
you can't get any worse than me
there's this really good exercise that lets you have amazing posture temporarily lmao
so go to your door frame, place your hands on both sides of the frame, and lean forward and keep your arms straight
💀
Do u get bullied often
no
bro my back is a shrimp
Does anyone know a somewhat easy way to learn how to spell
learn your phonetics properly and say the word slowly
keep track of spelling rules such as "i before e except after c" and stuff like that
Thank you
You're asking people to learn phonetics? hue
I think what you meant is Syllables
not necessarily
it can be at the very basics
little preschoolers learn basic phonetics
like that
There is no way preschoolers learn that
What I learnt in primary school is "What words ends in ew?"
moment
Although the symbols are there
that's a phonic chart
Okay you know what
they're all over the place in kindergarten classrooms
I'll believe you

That is absolutely ridiculous
I'm studying phonetics currently
Now I feel like a kindergardener
💀
dw
phonetics for kindergardeners are literally like
tell me how the a sounds in apple
or stuff like that
I guess there's a relationship between that and how it is spelled
Okay, learn phonetics
LMAO
but learn it from the view of a spelling perspective
how spelling connects to pronunciation
technicalities works
I think it's interesting to learn how words are formed
Even if it's as simple as Phonetics
Outside of that, we just use words so casually that we don't even know what we said is linguistically correct
It's like learning how to make an F1 engine before learning how to make a simple steam piston engine
Oh sry sis 🙂
No worries 🙂
i can
u were lowkey right cuz I mean now im just looking at myself and thinking like damn I look kinda hot
This is a music help chat
