That’s the one I have taken throughout my years too. assuming your going to be in French 2 or French 1 those aren’t too difficult. So I do think 2 languages may be possibly if your really determined and passionate about doing so. What would the other language be?
i think im in intermediate 2
but my 2nd language is only if I havr enough creduts
even if i do i would want some study hall periods
A normal schedule for a freshman would be
semester 1:
Any Math
Any English
Any Science
Any History
Lunch
An elective
A language
A gym
A study hall
I am going to prepare for JEE. Class suggestions please?
Perhaps you should start looking into it
Does anyone know what you learn and do in AP Latin
Oe I do
Sort of
a lot of words and translating them and a few rules
like the genitivus and Nominativus
I prob mispelled one but n e ways
it's fun to do but really hard to master
Hi, can anyone tell me what regular world history, honors bio and honors English 9 would be like? (I signed up for them)
Regular World History is pretty easy
world history is mostly memorizing. bio is memorizing but you also have to have a strong understanding to do good in class
My class was a lot of map studying
OK thank you!
I literally am doing sorta the same thing... COVID kinda screwed everything up for me doing things my sophomore year, so i'm tryna make up for it as a junior
joined science olympiad (qualified for states), tsa (qualified for states) academic challenge (on the team that qualified for states); track and XC; and my schools math team, as well as getting a job and joining NHS/volunteering
Thx... I'm kinda losing my crap as AP exams are looming, but my GPA is still holding up, and the state conferences are on their way, so those will just be a good time I hope 😂
Yea that makes sense
yea, and thank goodness for it lol, my exams last year were not too hot... I blame virtual school
I did sweat the SAT early which is helpful, since a lot of my friends are in a bind studying for that in addition to regular classes rn
that's totally fair 😂 it was HARD to stay focused
LMAO
same
what exams were from a virtual year for you
I got lucky, got to take my psat immediately before my SAT- got a 1400/1520 on the PSAT, so no complaints, and than a 1570 SAT; so really no complaints LMAO
ty ty
and ew gross.... I got calc AB and lang this year, in addition to economics and chemistry
kinda confident for calc; sorta for chem
much much much less so for lang
yea, my one friend got a perfect tho, so im not living it down LMAO
LOL
Good luck my dude!
you want my 2 cents on studying
Sure
alright so what i did was literally 12 days of studying... I took 2 khan academy full length tests; day 1 and day 2; for the next 8 days I just practiced the skills that those seeded me low levels for; took 2 more full lengths for days 11 and 12
and then the night before it I took off and got some freaking sleep
LMAO
Alright
thanks
lmao
Sadly im the cutoff for paper tests
would rather do it online
oof
Can someone tell how my drawing looks
i have the option to take ap comp sci principles or ap seminar what should I take?
I just made it
It looks good, nice work! Will you color it in?
depends, what major are you looking at
idk tbh im stuck in between both because what if i choose comp and then in the future i regret not doing capstone
i think thats how it works
ok so ur not wrong
I was in ur shoes last year and I took ap compsci
depending on ur teacher, that class and exam could be a breeze
for me, the class was, exam wasn;t
I've heard bad things about seminar, at least from people at my school; to the point where they decided AGAINST research, and lost the capstone anyway
If you truly enjoy english, and have an idea for what you may wanna do ur research project on, I'd def recommend ap seminar tho
but in the end it's up to you as to what you think will benefit/help you more
alright thank you for the advice
mhm
DONT CLICK IT IT'S A SCAM
....scam all over...
No its a scent from anima
I will try to make another and colour it
Read the URL. Don't click.
Is this a balanced schedule for sophomore year
English 2 H
PSGA
AP World History
Chemistry
Advertising
Study hall
Drivers ed
French 3
That looks good but what about math?
I would 100% take a math instead of study hall
I’m currently in 8th grade and was wondering if I should take AP Human Geography for my freshman year. Is it better to wait until 10th grade?
you could probably be able to take it as a freshman
i'm currently taking AP physics 1 as a freshman and it's not too overwhelming
K, thanks for the advice
np
It rlly depends on how hard you're other classes are
And to rlly find that out you have to ask ppl who have taken the classes you wanna take and listen to their experiences
Take it as a freshman, it’s worth the time
Are there any other APS reccomended for freshman year?
Ty
AP CSP
If you’ve taken precalc, go for it
I’ve heard it’s a bit difficult but you should be fine if you did well in Precalculus
do you guys think it would be a good idea to take a history/structure of the english language class from my school to help prepare for english part of the SAT/ACT?
Yes, that will be helpful, also try reading old literature, statistics, researches in your free time, that’ll help as well
But don’t look into history classes with main goal for preparing for sat, that’ll be boring
In the end its standardized tests, you should rather learn the SAT/ACT structure
Take HUG as a Freshman, doing well in it can help be an extra bit of sugar for when you take AP World
I just want to know this from the perspective of people who probably know more about it than me, is JROTC a “good” class?
PSGA is math it’s Plane solid geometry accelerated
It’s PSGA
oh ok
I'm taking JROTC next year as well so I would also like to hear if anybody has and tips or whatnot
well i want to take the course to get better at english grammar and learn how it works, solely for SAT help
do you think its still a good idea?
English structure probably will help
These are my classes for high school
Team sports=forced pe
Health is also forced
I just want some feedbacks
My schedule is weird tbh
But its like that
I got unlucky and got Mandarin Chinese
You can’t pick your own languages? For school
No it was just that since my school has a lottery and I put in late I got put in Mandarin Chinese
Actually it is a good thing to think
Seems solid, what do you plan to major in?
Not sure yet tbh
The reason i cant to do aps in 9th is cuz i need to complete lots of prerequisite
I recently got to pick my classes for my 11th grade year… do you think these are good and what would you recommend for studying and time management.
First Semester:
Acc Precalculus
AP biology
AP Eng Lang/Cmp
AP Government
AP Physics
AP US History
Second Semester:
Acc Precalculus
AP biology
AP Eng Lang/Cmp
Economics
AP Physics
AP US History
This would be my first year taking AP classes; however, I will be studying all of these in the summer. (What should I focus more of my attention on?)
I’m not even in 11th grade but from what I have heard almost across the board Ap physics is a very hard class
Do you know why Per se?
I’ve heard the overall content/context difficulty is very difficult. Though my guess would be if you have a solid teacher you should be okay.
which ap physics are you taking?
i'm currently in phys 1 and 2 so i can give advice for those
You should take APUSH junior year
If it’s your first year, perhaps tone it down just a tad bit, but if you can do it, go for it!
Because AP Bio, Physics, and Lang are going to kill you
Apush is more manageable
It’s a 3 term course so that’s why I can’t take it otherwise I would
My schedule and my school are weird
@hollow trout @mortal hedge hey there, here about the JROTC questions
context: I am currently in the end of my 2nd year with Air Force JROTC as a Cadet Technical Sergeant (Cadet E6 if you're of a different branch)
JROTC is a pretty fun class if you have good cadet and instructional leadership. I strongly recommend giving it a full year to settle in, and not dropping it until you've entered your 2nd year if you plan to drop it at all, because leadership can and will often change from year to year, and sometimes first impressions can be wrong.
JROTC is really good at forcing you to develop cooperation skills. You physically cannot pass a course in JROTC after your 1st year without developing interpersonal skills such as teamwork, public communication, etc. You're quite literally forced to developing these skills, and I understand that may sound uncomfortable and honestly if you struggle at all with those skills it will be uncomfortable, however you definitely will not regret it afterwards.
Doing extracurriculars with JROTC (our most well-known would probably be colour guard and drill) can instill discipline, enhance your teamwork skills, and make you look pretty for resumes and stuff like that. I highly recommend drill, I was our advanced unarmed drill commander this year and loved it.
Thank you so much for replying, I’m finishing my first year of Army JROTC and needed some other opinions. You’ve helped with helping me decide, and now I am fairly certain I will continue into next year with JROTC.
Ahh yes discord nitroi
@astral acorn could u delete this
Bruh he has sent this in all channels
if you can make it work go for it
It generally only gets better
Thank you for the info! Quick question, what do you mean at the end by 'doing extracurriculars with JROTC'? Are they after-school type things, like a club?
is it ok if i dont take any ap history classes in highschool if i want to be a scientist
Yeah, but it’s good to be well rounded with a focus on one thing so try to take a few humanities APs to balance
If I want to skip normal Chemistry and jump straight to AP chem than what are some things that I should study before next year?
I would talk to the AP Chem teacher about that and get recommendations
I’m going to be a sophomore but is AP calc AB as a senior good?
depends on your major, but if you’re not going into anything math/compsci/engineering related, yes!
How much harder is AP calc bc than AP calc ab
Calc c is very hard from what I heard from my friends
the second semester especially
If you work hard, ask questions, put the time and effort you will do amazing
What should I take senior year if I will go into those fields?
It’s ideal to finish Calc BC by junior year and take a university/community college level math course senior year, depending on your major
Or finish Calc bc earlier like sophomore year but that can be more difficult
But obviously do what you can manage and if you get to Calc by high school, you’ll be fine
They are. JROTC has smaller clubs within it. Orienteering, Raider Team, Drill (Drill has a lot under it, a dull team for my unit consists of 1st Year Armed, Advanced Armed, 1st Year Unarmed, Advanced Unarmed, 1st Year Colour Guard, Advanced Colour Guard, and Exhibition), Colour Guard, Marksmanship Team, and J-LAB
OT (Orienteering) and Raider Team both focus on physical fitness and endurance
Drill and Colour Guard focuses on giving and executing commands while stationary and while marching
And then J-LAB is JROTC's own academic team
Do any of you go to an IB school
Oh ok, other than calc BC our school has calc 1 and ap stats only for seniors
Washington state math is shit, most people get to pre calc by senior year
Yeah
You can try to take some at community colleges
So is California except we get to AP Calc AB
virus I think
anyone from UK: What is A-Level Further Maths like? I chose it since most unis im looking at prefer further maths but in general how is it? I'm going into Sixth Form this September
@astral acorn virus/scam link
Which is one is better ap physic 1 or ap physic c
There's benefits to taking both, though you should take ap physics 1 or ap physics 2 before taking ap physics c
Is algebra 2 (math) AP same as AP Calculus AB
I’m so confused what that question is lol but if you’re question is, “is algebra 2 the same as AP Calc AB” no not really anything close lol
Ooo ok coz I want to take Computer Science as a degree
I’m applying in a couple of years (2024 entry) since I’m doing GCSEs this yr so I’m still a bit early but I have to choose A levels for sixth form
I want to apply to Cambridge most likely
I would apply for Oxford but after a bit of research I want to apply for Cambridge it just appealed to me more plus we can’t apply for both so yh
Yh I did the intermediate UKMT this yr
I was so close to a Gold but ended up on Silver
Yeah it happens throughout the year
Usually through schools
Yeah hopefully
Olympiad r similar u usually either apply privately or if u get gold on UKMT u get through to the Olympiad by default
Bye u have a good day too
AP physics 1
I’m currently taking Algebra 2, Geometry, Acc chemistry, and a 2 hour long class of biomedical. My strong suits are mathematics and bioscience. I believe I can handle it. Your concern is noted; do you have any suggestions for what I should study over the summer?
If you think you can, I would talk to the teachers and ask them what they recommend you do. I’m currently taking honors precalc, honors bio, honors chem, as well as 2 other APs and unless you have experience taking many APs, good luck
Does anybody know if English 9 honors is hard
physics 1 isn't too hard imo i think the only difficult topics are gravitation and rotational dynamics
theres also a lot of algebra so you should review it if you need to
okay, thanks 👍
Last year I took algebra 1 this year I’m taking geometry and algebra 2… I’m pretty good at it… enough to have a general percent error less than 5%.
And thanks for the recommendation… I will definitely start studying those concepts before that school year starts
I admire you. I am also in Algebra II and I make so many errors despite knowing all of the content pretty well
Yea you should be prepared then for ap phys
@obtuse smelt Edit: after lots of convincing I FINALLY GET TO TAKE CALC BC
nice
guys i was eating a chicken sandwich checking my courses for next year
and i spit out my chicken because my counselor accidentally put me in Multivariable Calculus
I havent even taken AP Calc yet 💀💀
and now i wasted a part of my chicken sandwich :((
Sad
:(

My school is offering AP Human Geography and AP Spanish language and culture. Should I take any?
Yes, if you’re a freshman go for human geo but if you’re older, go for both of them
Yes im entering a freshman
is human geo good?
My first language is spanish too
Go for both then
It’s a relatively easy AP
^
I only took it because I enjoy most of the topics
but it's worth taking regardless
ill do my best
can colloges is failed ap exams?
I want to major in architecture
should I take community college classes even if I'm already planning to take 11 aps
If you can handle it
You can hide your scores
Is ap physics basically physics 101?
Most schools make you take geometry after completing Algebra. I highly recommend it, as you use a lot of those skills in Alg2/trig and pre calc. Most schools also don't let you skip geometry, so it doesn't hurt to take it if you have the time
especially with trig having a good geo foundation lets imagine concepts visually, most proofs can be derived from geo
Also, try out alcumus, I feel its a better way to practice than Khan Academy
They divide up the problem sets by chapter and concepts
so you can practice what you want easily
^ Precalc is basically algebra 2/trig and more, so if you’ve already done algebra 2, precalc is super easy
ayy way to go
it depends on your prior math ability and the curriculum of the course. I know some curricula have a strong alg1 and alg2 can often just repeat a lot of the same stuff, so check with teachers. You'll want to do at least a bit of alg2 studying
Pre calc consisted of intro to calc and calc a
Not alg2trig
That’s a separate course itself
it depends on the school/program. Most dont include any actual calculus (some deal with limits in rational funcs)
and I think public school US curriculum doesnt teach trig with alg2, they separate it into precalc (may be wrong about that tho)
Maybe my school is different
Basically in pre calc my school has first sem for pre calc honors then second sem calculus a
Your school might do it differently
Np!
im a student who takes (is planned to take) the IB DP course next year
but in terms of difficulty in getting a 7,
is econ SL harder or psychology SL harder
Should I skip precalc
^
Calculus
Yes
Dumb question because still 2 years until I even reach that point but just wondering
Want to ib calc
But don't know if I can do it because ib dp thing begins in junior year
And I'd be in sophomore year
Does your school even let you skip pre calc
Personally I would not as calculate builds on from pre calc
I see
You shouldn't precalc is before AP Calc for a reason, it's to help you prepare for AP Calc AB/BC.
Or calc bc of you are on a honors track
Should I take Spanish 3? Im planning doing running start for 11&12th but not sure if I should take another Spanish. My aunt says that taking will increase my chances of getting into a better 4year college but idk 🤷♂️
No
Yo guys so I’m a freshie and i want to see if my workload is gonna help me get my preferred major of cs or mechanical engineering
Green r cs classes That complete a cape stone at my school
Orange r engineering that complete a cape stone at my school
Cim - computer integrated manufacturing
Do it
I’m taking alg 2 at a cc rn so I’m doing pre calc next year
Literally every student does at the very least Spanish 3, so you should too and even do more if you want to go above and beyond
Ok
Seems like a lot freshman year, and not so much sophomore year. Perhaps you could take a second AP?
Haha nvm
I saw AP Japanese
It looks good, I am not super knowledgable with CS but maybe you could join a robotics team or something and focus your extracurriculars on cs/mechanical engineering?
Mhmm ok I’m gonna try to become a lead for my robotics team
What is the difference between calc AB and calc BC
I’m planning on doing one of them or both in my senior year
One is harder than the other, I think BC Is the harder one
AP Calculus AB focuses on topics that are taught in the college-equivalent first-semester calculus class. AP Calculus BC focuses on topics covered in both first- and second-semester calculus classes.
From college board website
I think your school is special if you take ab in first half and bc in secound half
thats not how it works
If you take Calc AB, first semester is calc a secound sem is cal b
if you take calc BC, first sem is calc b second sem is calc c
from what I heard calc bc is very tough compared to ab
I think it includes more multivariable calculus
Your school might be different but this is how it works in my school
the letter represent each sem what calc you are taking
Isn’t honors calc ab bc
But the. They repeat calc b
I am not sure how you school does it. I think all schools do it differently
if not many students are there to take the class then they don't have the class
if someone does want to take it, then they take it online
I don't even think there exists a course like that
check the western board of education
I thinks its just ap calc ab or ap calc bc
My school there is honors pre calc/calc where first semester is precalc and 2nd is calc a
this is what I said before but someone said they don't have it in their school
I guess it depends on the school budget
if you really want to do a course then try a dual enrolment
do you have multivariable calc available in your school
is multi variable calc harder than calc bc
are you taking any math gen ed classes in college
linear algebra?
whats your major?
makes sense, thats smart as less workload
you trying to become an author?
nice, whats your favorite book
I will check it out, I usually don't read fiction as I like reading non fiction
is non fiction easier to read than fiction
sounds interesting
Have you read any Ben Graham books, he is one of my favorite authors
Makes sense, do you get a lot of sleep in college compared to high school?
that a good plan, but once I get a job sleep is going to be hard to come by. Managers calling at random times is not fun
Sleeping early a getting up early keeps me focused
if I did that, my future manager would probably get really mad
possibility of getting fired
you also agree to work on weekends at faang,
at faang you need to work 14 hours a day, sometimes you get calls at 3 in the morning
the managers usually have no family and live out hotels
this is a true fact
I have family workers working at faang, I met some managers at parties
I wish but at some point in your career work comes before family.
I mean its even worse for an on call surgeon
you might get paiged in at 4in the morning nd have to report in 15-30 mins
someones life is waiting on you
your dad is an actor, wow
oh nice
work life balance is the main reason I did not want to pursue medicine
first week of med school a lot of people barf after operating on someone
its hard for some people to digest cutting and opening into someone
I am fine with operating on someone but I kid of have shaky hands
do you watch any med drama shows, the operating scenes are very accurate
if you can't watch the operating scenes then becoming a surgeon is going to be hard
I mostly listen to podcasts and documentaries, dramas are a waste of time, too much drama in real life already
I like watching interviews also
I might go to Omha for brka meeting
it hooks you in,
Nebraska
yup
autocorrect is bad
especially with swipe controls
its cold there right
what college?
California is worse in the summer, avg is around 89
Texas is worse
nice
California weather is good in San Diego
Lived there for around 6 years
I lived in Seattle near msft hq for 2 years, its always raining there
its tough
college dorms don't have good ventilations
liquid nitrogen cooling? I heards its good
even vapor chamber wall insulations is good
its keep the temp stable
costs a lot
the house I live in around 60 years old
almost all houses in the bay ar over 50+ years old
I have been to massachusetts to visit the mit, and the hi lab
winchester house is a good haunted house in san jose
expensive like california
Texas has no state income tax, thats such a big deal breaker
Harvard students driving up land prices creating a housing boom
I liked the hi lab, had awesome supplies
the campus is amazing
is there state income tax there
yes there is greater income inequality
going to start my science grind, cya and have a good one
personally i think bay area has a good environment but the cost of living really sucks
@cinder gorge What was your SAT mark, and what did you talk about in your college essay?
My friend got into gt with a 1550 sat, unweighted gpa 3.89. He got to platinum in usaco, president and founder of computer science, machine learning, volunteering for charity clubs. He also did a internship at University of North Carolina.
Now he is getting an internship at ncr
During summer 2 months they pay 40k
It’s really helps with paying tuition
If you have any questions on gt I can answer, I have been there checked out the dorms downtown and ncr
Out of state is at 60k it has increased a lot over the past 4 years
4 years ago out of state was 45
UNC-CH is a very good school I’m actually thinking of applying to it and studying CS
NC-State is also super good and is a cheaper option
It’s a good option but far away from home so travel cost over breaks is high
In state is easier as you can mostly lily drive back home
instate options for me are uta, utam, bayor
yup
Univeristy of Texas at Austin (about 30 mins from my house) University of Texas A&M, Bayor University
UTA and UTAM costs 36k a year
Bayor costs around 70k a year
If I get into Bayor would definitely there
Going to apply to UC as well but since I will become out of state its going to be costly
just to show what a 6-block trimester schedule looks like for your junior year if you're in a public service // social studies pathway and are aiming for top 10 graduate
no it's just something I decided to post for anyone to look at
oh thanks for your suggestion it will help people
My school divides classes into 6 classes, each being 1 hour
12 week trimesters, total of 3 trimesters
In IC the "units" is how many trimesters the course is
Oh, my school does semesters and each class is 90 mins
also how is mcc pre calc required
I though you only need to get to geo to graduate
might be different for every school
it's the math class I chose
We're mandated to take a science, math, ela, and social studies
We have the choice of Pre-AP Algebra 2 or Algebra 2, and then the head of the math department hand selects students to be in her Pre-Calculus class and then she hand selects for Dual Credit Statistics and DC Calculus (we don't have any APs in math)
she teaches all 3
nice I also have to take science ela and social studies mandatory
and then for the others it's just either take a standard or AP
are you in private?
So junior social studies is US History so you choose standard or APUSH
nah I'm in public school
🤷♂️
that's a decision of our site based decision making council
and of our math department
the head of the math department is on that council
They count the DCs in equivalence to the APs because that's the most rigorous offered in that department
Social studies department gets the abundance of APs
it is probably due to lack of enrolment in those classes causing them not to have it
Electives Department
Studio Art
Math Department
None
Science Department
Environmental Science (required for Top 10 Honour Graduate, including valedictorian and salutorian)
Biology
English Department
English Literature and Composition (required for Top 10) - school currently has
to take AP Lit out of curriculum and replace w English 101
English Language and Composition (required for Top 10)
Social Studies Department
United States History (required for Top 10)
Psychology
United States Government and Politics
World History: Modern (required for Top 10)
Human Geography
Those are all the APs at my school
You're also required to take one of the two DC math classes at minimum for Top 10
You also have to take 3 additional AP classes (or 2 APs plus taking the other DC math, so you'll take two DC math simultaneously) on top of the required ones
Yall don't have AP Bio, AP Chem, Ap physics, and ap Calc? Wow.
I'm taking AP Chem next year (as a sophomore) lol
Same but as a senior
We don’t have Calc bc lol but there’s not much kids can really do about it other than take the class outside of school
Oh that makes sense
What does MCC stand for
is taking AP calc AB online before junior year and taking BC junior year doable/a good idea
the idea being most of BC is review of AB
Calc bc is calc b 1 semester and calc c next semester. It’s not a review of calc ab
isn't calc B part of AB
"AP Calculus AB focuses on topics that are taught in the college-equivalent first-semester calculus class. AP Calculus BC focuses on topics covered in both first- and second-semester calculus classes."
That’s what the description says but my school lists it as calc b 1st sem and calc c second sem
A lot of high schools do it this way also
Well I talked to the math teacher at my school and he said that BC is basically just AB with additional units
Regardless, do you think the online thing is a good idea?
Is the online course at a college
Then it should be good, from my experience these summer courses go very fast. They sweep a lot of info
No need to worry about quality of teaching
Can you handle the fast pace
ok
probably, anyway I have all summer to learn it
also I learn pretty well by teaching meself
You should be good for the online course
It should prepare you well for the calc bc course
We have bio
It's a local college that partners w my school for dual credit math courses
Oh ok, we have that also, but mine is called ACC
Is taking AP Chem and Bio even worth it
it will destroy my GPA
but also colleges like course rigor
soooo...
if u wanna do something in the science field go for it but i heard those classes have a lotttt of work so make sure u can handle the course load. i kinda wanna do that too bc i was gonna take ap bio this yr but the teacher quit :/
AP chem requires a lot of time
anyone got class advise
my AP bio class had little to no hw other than studying
although the quizzes were hard
the tests were curved nicely as weel
even computer science?
i heard comp sci principles is easy u just submit a final project and answer mc according to the teacher at my school, but comp sci a is prob trickier. prob not too difficult tho
nah i mean if majoring in comp sci do you need chem an bio?
oh probably not but it wouldnt hurt to take them if ur up for it
also if u have gen ed requirements in college that should get rid of some if the college takes the credit
My sophomore classes thoughts?
dayum
do you live in brasil?
No the US
close enough
Lol
hi so next year my sis is going to a gifted magnet for middle school and it only has 3 elective choices of a steam elective a dance elective or a band elective which should she choose she is having a hard time
her choice
so she definetly does not want to be in dance
Middle school is the time for her to explore her passions and it’s okay to try something different w
kk thx
Driver's Ed, That's seems cool.
Does every sophomore student takes this class in whole America?
It’s optional but most people take it as a sophomore or a junior
How hard is AP Chem?
Ima try to skip Honors Chem and go straight to AP since the curriculums are the same
It's just that AP is harder
Can you take AP World/AP euro instead of honors?
Whatever she’s most interested in
Nope
My school does not offer it
I’ve been told it is fairly difficult, but if you plan to do that and prepare well, you should be fine
Depends on your school
I had to pay and it was self paced online
how would you rate the hw load of AP calc BC, AP CS A, AP US, and AP Language (like which one will give the most hw, I know US will be the most but what about the others?)
As a note, Im pretty good with CS and English and I'm taking AP euro this year
Deff calc
Calc is piss easy
do yall know really good online sites that offer AP/Honor Classes?
I’m in junior high rn and I am doing the calc bc exam this year outside of school. But I’m not sure how I can continue from there. I’m learning the further topics from the adams calculus book. Is there any exam or way I can specify that I have done the course (calc 2-3 etc.) when applying for uni?
do not
taking ap chem rn
i definitely recommend taking honors before ap
honors maybe easy but it’s important to know a lot of the material
the curriculum is definitely not the same
honors is everything you need to learn ap without being too behind
@snow knoll
i actually have an ap chem kinetics test today so wish me luck😵💫😵💫
Ty
I'll keep that in mind
Good luck
its like building blocks yk
Yea fair
you could prob do ap bio without honors tho
ap bio is memorization whereas chemistry is application and math
I'm doing honors bio rn😭 😭 😭
it has to be learned before you go into the class otherwise your chances of doing as well will go down
god i hate chemistry
my teacher a pain in the ass
The way my school does science classes is that the honors and AP classes teach the same material it's just that AP is more
out honors are prep for ap
our*
so for some we literally can’t take ap without honors
The AP Chem teachers in my School are the best from what I've heard
ours are good they’re just mean
super condescending
talk to you like ur 5
and gets suprised when u dont under
stand
It's chem
U can't really expect people to understand lol
Middle school chem was fun tho ig
Welp
good luck with ur kinetics test
I have an English essay due
Scammer
What grade did you take jt
9th
wow, I was debating if I should take it 10th but my science teacher said not to take it, he recommended chem honors. Planning to take it in 11th and then do ap physics c in 12th
I could have taken it but did not want to as I have a backup of taking ap environment science in 12th and for that I have to complete chem or above in that pathway
Yea my school does it weirdly because all you need is a 93 in algebra 1 and geometry to take ap physics 1 as a freshman
Physics 1 in 11th and Physics c in 12th seems like a good idea
Is AP comp sci hard?
The exam is very difficult among AP tests, though I am not sure about the difficulty of the course itself
Ok thx
Depends on which one
Hmm yes I love Discrod Nitra
@astral acorn
I’m I the only Canadian here
from what i heard comp sci principles is rly easy it’s just like the beginner’s guide to coding and u just do mcqs and a final project for the ap exam so def take it if ur interested in cs
oh yeah
I would recommend taking the prerequisites (like intro to java) if any as jumping right into ap cs might be difficult. Problem thinking skills are very handy.
Also consider the amount of hw they assign
this is what my school estimates
hw might take longer if you have weak problem solving skills and have no experience to coding
from my experience its a hard course if you have not done coding before
start with the prerequisite coding courses
Ok thx
Yeah ima do intro to comp sci in my sophomore year
should I take AP bio or AP chem
It really depends on what type of science you prefer and what you are going to be when u grow up. Personally im more of a phyiscs/chem person and i wanna be a cs/engineer, but if you want to have a job that deals with animals and stuff like that, AP bio is better @halcyon sandal
any advice on what to do for ATAR? (in Australia btw)
No idea i live in usa sry abt that
I’m also australia
Wdym by what to do in atar?
Quite literally
You australia
no
Does apush count as a college credit like honors us history or no
I'll say that chemistry is more like math than I originally thought it would be when I signed up for it, so keep that in mind if you're good/bad at math.
what subjects to choose, such as biology atar or sports science atar
idk know about two hours a night. From my experience, I had little to no hw for CS principles. Even the students who were pretty bad at coding just had to finish up the occasional project at home.
The tests were also open notes
and the projects you just had to follow the rubric
so basically a free A+ in an AP class
the only time I spent time outside of class was when I bit off more than I could chew (not required), or reviewing the for AP exam. Other than that we just had to watch an occasional video
might be different for CS A
Each school is different
That’s what my ap cs teacher estimated
It also depends on the person
So it’s hard to tel how much he you will have
Thank you!
@opaque zealot cs principles is not as same as ap cs
do you understand this
you can compare the hw loads in these two classes if we are talking about ap cs hw load
cs principles is a starter class
i think so
my school does not offer that course
my school does
if it was why does it not hap ap in the end
is it certified by the college board for an ap
but AP CS A is an advanced course for like intermeddiate or advanced
i checked
they call it cs principles also
as ap comp sci
so like the schools use different names
but its the same course
Yeah there is csp and csa
p is really easy
a is probably more rigorous
haven't taken a yet, taking p this year
we did the code.org curriculum this year and we had a new teacher
heard past years were harder but idk
It has both block coding and typed out code
it's pretty cool actually
you can switch between the two
Oh that’s really cool
I remember using something similar to that for visual basics last year, wasn’t any good at it thought
@cinder gorge https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1iHpZ3PdWMztOaau9J9dlCmyVqhp64_cFxcQ2B0jZ8DA/edit#slide=id.g123142ae1d7_0_305 this were the slides for the q and a, check it out if you got free time
wuzi you also wanted it to
its an easy buy for apple with their watch department, I would not be surprised if it gets acquired for around 5 billion
its just going to be more research and data for the watch team
they already got sleep tracking and another company that does medical monitors
like bpm, heart rate, glucose levels
the team could just retire with that money and live a happy life
but they could also just keep going
currently thinking about either taking AP Calc AB and financial algebra a + b in 12th, or maybe AP stats instead of financial algebra altho that kinda sounds like hell
At my school, financial algebra is for if you failed algebra 2 and it’s supposed to be a lot easier but idk how it works at yours
here financial algebra is different, it's just kind of there as it's own class(es)
Ahh ok
if you fail algebra 2 you still don't take it, you just take alg 2 again
We have that option or financial algebra
Code.org isn’t bad, I would recommend starting out there and then maybe start watching videos for other languages on YouTube
Hey I’m starting to choose classes for freshman year of hs any suggestions
Make sure to take a few honors classes, they could help you prep for ap classes later on
Also if your school offers it do ap human geo, it's a good ap class for freshmen
We had a general meeting but no Individual is that something I should look into.
I'm going into sophomore next year and I want to do chemistry APUSH and English 2
And then I'm gonna focus on DE classes
Should I start off easy in community college just to get used to it?
Take something like speech or world religion
Thoughts on taking these freshman year (school does not allow AP freshman year:
Algebra 2
Spanish 3 honors
English 2 honors
Bio 1
Chem 1
Music theory 2
Algebra 2 is usually an 11th grade course if you've already done Algebra 1 and Geometry go for it same goes for chem
Looks good but maybe go for one more class, like an creative class/exercise
Chem depends on the school. It can be a freshman, sophomore, or junior class. At my school, it’s sophomore
yup
Which is better college algebga or pre calc?
I wanna do computer science as a major so idk which one is like REQUIRED
If that makes sense
Mine goes physics, chem, and bio
Bio has quite a bit of chem though so I get it
I would probably aim for AP Calc tbh but I’m not super familiar with Cs
To do calc i gotta do pre calc and i really wanna do college algebra
But if its mandatory to do calc for computer science then i would do it
Can you do both?
And yeah ik I’m taking Precalculus rn
Not really sadly i can only do pre calc
Well time to said good bye to my major and focus for a new one
Ik, but you can still go for AP Calc the next year
Lol why
You can also do precalc over the summer
Is it bad that I wont take any chemistry classes in highschool
pretty much am taking every other science class tho
Like I went from normal bio freshman year to skipping chem and taking AP bio sophomore year
then probably doing AP physics senior year
also taking both AP comp sci's and 2-3 engineering classes
Looking at a comp sci major but idrk
Mainly this is bc I don't want to go back and take chem, anyway it doesn't fit in my schedule, and I don't want to take AP chem either because it doesn't fit and also it would be hard to do along with my other classes
I think it’s fine, ik some universities require at least 2 years of physical sciences though, but for colleges like the UCs, you’re good. I would check with your school to make sure that chem isn’t a graduation requirement cause it generally is at many schools
What are you taking junior year though
For science
Because maybe you could do 2 AP physics classes
Engineering 2 and AP CS A
not really physical sciences tho
Yeah no those don’t count
I would throw in one more year in case
If i do pre calc i really cant do calc bc i forget to do pre calc a year early💀
Can somebody help me in #math-help
Thats what i was thinking but idk what to do to go in a class
AP chem or AP physics C for computer science?
physics
@zealous helm do you or any one else know any extracurriculars for a high schooler that doesn’t have any
I do a lot of after school activities, but i specify them around my enjoyment
i can give u some ideas if u want, just ping me
You talk to your counselor
So it is mendotary for a pre calc credit if your major is comp science
i would strongly suggest it even if it’s not
Nah but ^
Depends on the subjects you are pursuing
@buoyant vine comp sci and math
You can tutor kids, do hackathons, take online courses, join a coding club at school (or make one), maybe join a robotics club
It depends what clubs there are at your school, I would advise coding club, math club, if you are into logical stuff like math and coding you may enjoy science club, like blueefin said: robotics club, if you like design, maybe DT club or animation club.
looking into starting my highschool language early so i have the credits and one less thing to worry about. right now, i'm mainly considering mandarin, spanish, and german. i know that some colleges won't accept certain languages such as sign language, but does the language you do choose have any impact on whether you get accepted to a college or not? if so, does anybody have any suggestions on clickbaity or popular ones?
ahh alright, thanks!!
Can any help me with integ phys science
so. i took spanish 2 as a freshman bc i took spanish 1 in 8th grade. however due to covid i couldn’t take it sophomore year and i didn’t think i’d need it anyways because i already had my 2 yrs down. but now i think it looks bad not having 2 yrs during hs of spanish so i’m thinking of taking spanish 3 next year but i haven’t taken it since freshman year. should i take it or would it be too difficult since i haven’t practiced spanish in 3 yrs now? (this prob doesn’t make sense lol)
i went from spanish 1 virtual (didn’t learn anything), to spanish 2 enriched, honestly they really go over the basics each year from my friends experience, will take some studying tho
alright i hope so
I’m not sure they would let you tbh, but if they do, go for it! It’s not too hard
my guidance counselor said i could if i felt like i was prepared enough to. i don’t think it would be too difficult to catch up if i do a lot of studying but i’m still a bit worried & thx!
You’ll do fine! I went 8 months without Spanish lol and forgot everything but relearned it all in Spanish 3
that’s good to hear, hopefully it’ll be the same for me, although it’s basically double that lol
Im planing on taking(testing out of) Advanced algebra/FST over the summer, this year I took two math courses, both algebra and geometry, wondering how I should study/ prep for AA/FST?
Is AP bio hard
Also has anyone done the thing where during the summer you go to your local courthouse and learn about proceeding and such
Ap Bio is considered quite a hard class. It would be useful if you previously took other bio courses and are already interested in it and learned some of the stuff.
I just wanna Ask if Computer Science is really worth it?
it is a pretty easy class for some people, though are you interested in majoring in it?
yes, I am planning to know more about computer science on summer break.
From your intro, you said you enjyoed coding. I think that taking a computer science course would be worth it.
like practicing coding, algorithms, solving puzzles
oh, thank you for answering. I was just confused
Im planing on taking(testing out of) Advanced algebra/FST over the summer, this year I took two math courses, both algebra and geometry, wondering how I should study/ prep for AA/FST?
I’m in junior high right now and I'm doing the ap calc bc exam this year outside of school (my school only offers gcse and ib). But I’m not sure how I can continue from there. I’m learning the further topics from the adams calculus book. Is there any exam or way I can specify that I have done the course (calc 2-3 etc.) when applying for uni?
would ap stats be easy to learn without a teacher? i want to teach it bc i’m def not taking ap calc (my only other option that isn’t a cp math class) but apparently they’re thinking of making it an online course or joining a class from another hs
well first, calc is necessary for a lot of carrers (maybe not ap but still), 2nd depends on the teacher. If its a good teacher, for sure take it, if not, khan academy or learn elsewhere
i said without a teacher 😭 and i’m fine w taking calc just not in hs bc my precalc teacher teaches it and i’m not going thru another year w him lmao
ah, i mean yeah i think doing khan or finding another way to learn it will be better
prove it
How? (I would rather not send a pic)
from ap calc bc, if your school doesnt offer multivariable calc or linear, there are always dual-enrollment options (like taking classes at a local college) for my school, dual-enrollment costs money, so thats likely going to be thing to do if you choose to dual-enroll. after multilinear, i don't think most high schools have courses, but there are also courses like differential equations, complex analysis, probability theory that you can see if colleges offer. (they might not be the exact same names, these are just what they're called at my school)
also ye if you take ap calc bc and get a 5 most colleges recognize that as credit for that class (i know mit has you take another exam to recognize that credit but havent done too much research for that lol)
you can get credit for calc 3 onwards by taking the final exams for multi at a college
oh ye and you can always check in with courses again once you get to high school
this isn't the same for everyone, but this the averge of what people at my school take: English, us history, physics (most of the time unless you wanna do a different lab science), precalc or algebra 2, a language
Should I worry about honors classes longterm
depends on the course
ive heard people say that honors physics is harder than AP Physics so
@stuck arrow thank you sm for the advice
np
I need help deciding on weather or not I should take English Honors for my freshmen year. I have all of my other classes figured out and I'm still trying to decide weather or not I should take it. The thing is all previous years of middle school I did really good on essays but then I got a stricter teacher (probs the strictest English teacher for my school) and I have been getting only B's for all three quarters I've had and don't want to take English Honors if I am going to be getting overall semester grades below B's.
im taking honors enlgih rn in fresh year and its easy
you will have different teachers as well so it will be fine
and your good at writing so thats also good
i would take it imo
Be careful
If you can find a hard hon eng teacher take them
Especially if they don’t like you
Because they’re prepping you for ap lang
And Ap lang is like 3x harder than hon English
he’s in dubai, his only options are to move or do online
that wasn’t me that was ny friend
Is all honors hard for freshman year of highschool?
depends the person tbh
ive just been wondering because im all honors middle school boutta go to highschool and people have said middle school all honors hard its not so im wondering what its like for highschool
k also is not taking pe okay
no
? why
it’s a mandatory class requirement
u must take it every year ur in school no matter the years u take it
my school for freshmans they have to take swimming so
rather not do that in highschool
no clue then
I have the same option but its online I got no clue 🤷♂️ even if your doing swimming I am pretty sure you have to do something when it isn't swimming season. I've heard at my school you can say that you are "training" for whatever sport when it isn't in season but I just don't know what you would be doing for PE.
would 4 aps be too much? i want to take ap chem, lit, & maybe stats & i’m not sure if adding apush to that would be too much but i’ve always wanted to take the class and now i finally have the chance since i only need like 3-4 credits to graduate lol
Personally i wouldnt be able to handle that with stress and all but if u feel like youll be able to handle it then go for it. It is a lot of work and from what i hear they go pretty fast and cover a lot of stuff pretty in depth but it’s completely up to u and if u want to then go for it, itll increase ur knowledge quite a bit if u grasp it well
I think it comes down to you, your school and the teachers because they can make or break the course. For example, Apush and AP bio are easier at my school compared to a class like AP Lang. If you’re in your junior year and want to be considered for top colleges, I would definitely go for it
i'm taking 4 APs in my sophomore year (next school year). I don't think it's too much, but I guess I'll just have to wait and see
4 APs is pretty good, but remember, colleges don’t only want to look at grades make sure it doesn’t take away from extracurriculars, it may be a lot for you as I don’t think most schools offer AP classes freshman year so the workload may be a shock
Nice mine doesn’t offer any until junior
):
Three of the AP classes I am only taking them because I like the subjects they cover
one of them is required for my school
Just make sure that you don’t get overloaded with workload, it can happen very fast, one second you have B in one of your classes and the next thing you know you have Bs in 2-3 more classes but strong work ethic and you’ll do great
alright, I'll make sure to keep that in mind
better to take ap chem or ap physics c in senior?
ap physics c in my opinion but what r u gonna major in
lol just wondering because I’m just going focus on internship class and college and career readiness class
Is 3 aps for 10th grade all right? We weren’t really given a limit but I decided to take only three bc I was unsure
what do i do if my 7th grade math class is too teasy and there is no other math class
3 is great! I don’t know what they are, but if you think you can handle them, definitely do them. Don’t be too pressured if you think you can’t though - 2 APs is just as awesome
Okay so I want to be a computer science major and decidedtake a ap computer science. However don't know if I need to take reg classes to take AP ones. Also which AP cs is harder and which one helps grow my interest in cs
comp sci principles is prob the best one to start off w because it’s basically just an intro course so it’s pretty simple
Would ap physic 2 be harder? If I alr have done ap physic 1
Wanna know if im gonna re stress myself again💀
Is it possible to take BC and Stat in the same year?
Check your counselor
Or your school classes requirement
You can take it if you have extra classes
yea probably
LMFAOO
lmao
Should I take hgap this next year? I am taking advanced Spanish, adv geometry, adv biology, gt/phoniex English, band, and jrtoc?
Is it better to take subjects i enjoy but may not get me a high score in final exams, or subjects that I do not enjoy as much but will get me a higher score?
both have to be somewhat rigor
IMO classes that get you a higher score
You can do some extra studying on stuff that you’re interested on as an add on
But you’re here in high school for your grades not your interest
So studying what you like and putting your chances to go to a good college at risk isn’t worth it
Hope that helps to but do remember the final decision is on you
Is anyone taking physiology as a high school class, i am in 9th grade and I am very interested in that class, and I just want to know what it is like
I need an honest opinion, do you think it is possible to get into a good engineering school (like top 20 or smth) without ap calc ab or bc and without ap physics?
no
i’m currently looking into engineering or physics and most of them said they have pre recs of pre calc but will look at people with more knowledge in the field first
also if u wanna go into engineering school u should be looking into those types of classes to see if you actually enjoy it
Makes sense, by the time i finish hs i will have taken at least physics honors and pre calc honors. I have also taken many engineering and math classes and i really enjoy it so that shouldnt be a problem, i just want to know if I should get a year ahead in math so I can take those aps
those 2 classes honors should be enough, i was under the impression u weren’t taking anything past normal physics and normal pre calc, though u should try to take at least ap 2/C for physics and Calc Ab if possible
Ok tysm for the help!!
I was just wondering, is there anyone here who has skipped precalc and gone to ap calc ab?? I'm planning on doing so and I just wanted to know if it's hard to cope with the workload and if it's possible to get a good score on the ap test. Also, are there any resources/websites that you'd recommend for self-studying precalc material since i'll be skipping it?
if it’s about the availability of the course at your school I know many people who self study courses
If your school doesn’t have any prerequisites for ap calc I recommend khan academy
ok, thxs!!!
Ok, the courses are available at my school but since im in normal math i wont be able to take them if i dont move up math levels (over the summer)
You can dual enroll pre cal at a local college during spring semester and I’m pretty sure that will allow you to take ap calc ab in fall of your following year
yeah ik many who did what I mentioned above and dual enrolled the class
Oh okay, i didnt know that ty!!
np ask your counselor what I just said and they should be able to help you with the whole dual enrollment process which can be confusing
oh ok thxs!!! thats a good idea!!
I’m guessing your in 10th but if not that’s what I suggest during 10th
ye im in 10th
and tysm!!
Who here is in year 7 or 8
Mee! going to 9th
im in grade 8 currently
I’m in 8th grade currently
whyyyyyyyyyy u dont need to be here that early no offense
You can also take precalc over the summer and jump right into AP Calc AB junior year
If you have a strong trig foundation, it won’t be as difficult
My teacher gave my project a failing grade because theres a hole in it
A literal or figurative one
Little context, but perhaps you can talk to them if you don’t think it’s a big deal
I was supposed to make something out of coconuts and one of the coconuts had a hole in it so I filled it in with a glue gun but she said that she would only give me effort points.
if there is a hole there is a goal
Can freshmen take pre calc over the summer and take ap calc on their sophomore year?
Im a 13 year old freshman so technically i should be
Bro at my school Pre Calc and AP Calc are Junior and Senior only 💀
Yup! I personally tried it, but my school did not prepare me enough in trig, so I had to drop the course, but it’s definitely doable
I know a friend that finished AP Calc BC by her sophomore year
Aight but I gotta sign up for a pre calc class over summer in my school? How does it work?
Can it be self taught, private classes? Idk
why tho
I think it has to be UC approved at least that’s what my councilor told me (I’m in California)
Umm... transcript? I guess
You have to probably look at your local community college or online courses by universities
The sooner ap classes the better? Isnt that how it works? Lol
no 💀
The more the merrier?
Depends on how you can take it I was planning to do the same but my teacher suggest strong against it so
not rlly
yeah
Im 9th
Im a freshman
At least what my mom told me is that the more ap classes the better lol
I mean
Well I know someone who did that but skipped trig instead in freshman they were able to do it but their GPA was not that good
Also consider that most colleges suggest/require 4 years of math
i have a friend who will end up taking 21 ap’s total
he’s also going to be top of our class w a current 4.6
Thats awesome
if ur trying to be like that
even he didn’t do what ur saying
cus that’s a lot of work for 0 reason
just take a different ap instead
What do u suggest?
u will end up in the ap calc bc by senior year anyways
🤷♂️ depends what u wanna do
Literally my whole school I’m just focusing on a good GPA and extra curriculars now
Can’t compete against them
lol my extracurriculars are setttt
Can you help me look at mine?
which ones do u have
Oh ok

i’m legit going to take 3 only total 💀
i’m gonna take 4 honors total as well
and 3 dual enrollment
samee
4 total or 4 per yr? cuz by the end of next yr i’ll have 5 😭
ok good
Bro my dream college is literally impossible to get into 😭
Nope, as long as you find a place that offers credit that you school accepts. If you live in California, I can give suggestions
Nope you don’t get credit unless your school offers it in some way. I would talk to your counselor
Yup , for California. Other states have their own version
I think the main reason you would even want to do it is if you’re interested in a future in math, cs, engineering, physics, or anything that requires a super super strong math component. If you’re into bio or English or whatever, there’s really no point in it because you’re going to take it anyways
For top schools like the ivies, the unofficial recommendation a total of at the very least 7-12 APs
I live in nj
Umm
Going away from math
How can i get into ap english?
Do i need to take any summer classes?
Can any1 tel me
umm
Yeah idk about the state's requirements
AP Lang is a junior class at my school and AP Lit is a senior class, but I know some schools do AP Lit sophomore year. You generally don't have any prerequisite classes (this depends on your school though), so I would figure out which one you can take first and then ask the teacher for a meeting where you can talk about the requirements for the course
i have my psych ap in 10 days and i have to do 7 chaps😩
Hi gusy wanna zoom
With with my AP euro in 13 days and have 6 chapters
I rlly need help I have ap psychology and I'm only on unit 3
Do y'all have a schedule or smth I can use?
Do your school not post the ap classes unit of what they learned through each semester?
You must have a bad teacher if youre getting slow down in ap psych
Good idea AP exams are too much stress
No I don’t have a choice
But dual enrollment is really hard at my school 😀
Lol
Ohh lol
All the students at my highschool are dual enrolled at Kean University
And spend the entirety of their senior year there
I would try for 1 unit every two days or so. I’m not sure when the AP psych exam is, but that should work
That’s really cool
Super cool
We don’t have an opportunity like that unfortunately
However colleges don’t always accept dual enrollment credit
Since there’s not standardization
As opposed to
AP Classes
Yeah, they don’t always accept AP credit though
They do have standardization content wise, but many colleges will only accept certain scores or only for certain classes
Wow
AP CSP and AP CS A
Gl on your exams next month
No not next month sadly
Interesting choice
Self studying early
?
For next year
Ok good
Yeah, I don’t know how much it’s worth though to do AP CSP and AP Compsci A at the same time
I’m mainly learning CS to relate it back to Civil Engineering or Architecture which are my 2 main passions
Fair
And then take them both after spending 2 years on them
Ah ok
Yeah in general tho knowing computer programming and basic CS is good for almost any career
