if theres only one ur just kinda stuck and gotta get lucky
Try some dual enrollment classes
I thought ppl only do those for general studies? like to get college finish faster
You can take them online too but the experience will probably lack

oops moved AP Bio to the wrong spot
Don’t think so, you can use them for whatever you want
I’ve considered taking math classes at a community college instead of an online program
thats a schedule id recommend
thx, it does seem better now
i moved AP Chem back to sophomore
ur science stuff is just all difficult for most so its best ot just take 1 at a time tbh
I’d still hard recommend you do BC junior year, it’ll help you get an edge going into college
do you have to take AP US History?
What are your thoughts one AP bio and AP chem in the same year
well according to them theyd need AB their Sophomore year to do that
Chem is usually a prerequisite for bio
no but my counselor said I should
If the AP Buo class was very easy
I think it's prob gonna be hard
No, you could take AB and do the BC exam anyways
Wdym
wouldnt really recommend it unless ur already good at them prior
I have to take AP Chem to take AP Bio?
Ah ok
Not AP, but a chemistry class, yes usually
Always depends on the school tho
my counselor said I should do ap physics b4 making the college apps.
idk why tho
thats not an "AP Bio is easy" thing thats an "AP Bio teacher sucks at their job" thing at that point
actually yea thats a good idea
Oh ok, I’m really into bio and chem and I didn’t want to take a break between normal bio and chem and AP bio and AP chem

there i moved more stuff
Because I’ve talked to people at my school who have done that, and they strongly recommend against it
also another main thing is our ap chem teacher doesn't teach and he's only getting replaced this year. I'm not sure how good the new teacher is. Ik the ap bio teacher is good bc he teaches bio honors as well
o they just told me to avoid ap bio altogether
they said it's useless
Our AP Chem teacher is supposedly decent, but I know AP Bio is very enjoyable and she’s my current chem teacher rn
for ur career goals it isnt all that useful yea
I want to do premed or bio or chem so it’s useful
yes
Yes
so why does collegeboard have it for aerospace engineers?

This is my recommendation
A little more rigorous but if you can manage it’s better prep
You could replace csa with apush as well, just knock it off your schedule
k
thanks u both for helping, I dont know what to pick for my classes and everyone make it seem like a choice u can't back out of
A lot of schools have a drop period after you start classes
It depends on your school, obv, and some stuff has requirements
But I’ve changed my plan many many times
Me too lol because of requirements that were a total waste of my time either way
Yep
My school offers org chem and physiology and I thought it’d be fun but I’d have to take them again the next year for college credit so I was like nah
o so some colleges dont even count the classes u take?
I think requirements should be strongly recommended, not enforced
generally you have some flexibility for the first week or so of a trimester if your school uses the 3-trimester schedule rubric, never jump into the deep end without knowing how to swim
Wow that’s so cool
so just know that you can usually change up your plan if its too rigorous for you
Or semester
If they’re not AP. Some schools don’t accept APs and most require a certain score (top schools you usually need a 5)
Check with your guidance counselor on how long you have to change things at the start of the year
Your sophomore year won’t matter too much anyways, just try and get stuff out of the way
k I'll keep that in mind
they said I only have until last day of school
Usually there is some wiggle room at the start of the year, but if that’s the case then know that your decision is final at the end of the year
ok
does anyone happen to knoiw if ap seminar is good?
I’m applying for it next year, it seems fun
yea they said it's easy
but is it useful for engineering or medical careers?
when I asked my school counselor, he seemed like he just wanted to get me to apply for it
I’d say it is, it teaches you how to work in a group and have experience in “stressful” situations. I’m not sure though, I’m not going into the medical or Engineering field so I can’t help too much sadly

I'm not entirely sure about the history APs
haven't done much research
Capstone is a thing our school offers if you get into a computer science program where you can work on projects with other kids that like computer science
if I don't get in I'm probably doing analysis which includes complex and real

I don't think you can skip lab-based courses by taking the AP exam @thick grove
so you have to take AP phys c to take modern
i think u can
i know someone whos doing it
u cant skip core lab sciences but phys c isnt core
What are you planning on majoring in? Why not continue math?
i want to go into med
Ah alright that makes sense
What about your major, since med school doesn’t have any requirements. Just bio?
i'm thinking of doing bio or neuroscience
If you can get into a more advanced stats class you may wanna do that instead. Also analysis seems like a lot for a bio major, that’s just my initial thoughts
ap stats it the most advanced stats class my school has so i cant do anything else
yea analysis might be tough but i'll try it out
yeah I mean its really interesting, very mathematical. Definitely a change of pace from your traditional calculus classes, a lot more proofs (which you might see in lin alg).
you could try something in dual enrollment or at something like harvard online
so you can't skip chem bio or phys 1 but you can skip phys c
?
weird
yeah i probably wouldn't be able to selfstudy phys c
lmao
are you dual enrolling diff equations?
this is a pretty solid schedule
thanks
i'm doing it outside of school
yea because bio 1 chem 1 and phys 1 are all graduation requirements but phys c, ap chem, and ap bio are electives
yea i'll check out dual enrollment options
yea i heard its heavily proof based
yep, its basically the whole purpose of the class 😂
yeah see if you can do something more advanced there or thru whatever program youre taking dqs at
AP stats moves pretty slow imo
k thanks
My schools ap classes are still unweighted meaning that the max you can get is 4.0 even if you take the hardest AP classes
Is this normal or is it still worth it?
it's fine because colleges recalculate gpa anyways
Hello! Does anyone have any insight on AP European History? (Coursework, what to expect overall, exams)
there are combo MD or DO school that you also get your undergraduate at the same time kind of. I know NYU has a program for it but I can't remember what they are called. Usually you need to have keep a decently high GPA throughout your whole time though to stay in the program.
yeah i've heard of those
Oh damn really? So like it cuts off 4 years from your med school time
Yeah they have one at UC Davis too
Not exactly. I am not an expert on the route. But you can probably speed it all up a couple years maybe and you'd only have to apply to one school to get your bachelors and MD/DO.
Do some research if you're curious. I don't know much
Does anyone have any websites for graphic design?
Skill share i think has that?
What do u guys think, I will be a freshman in high school the coming school year, currently I am one grade ahead and am doing honors geometry as an 8th grader, I have the option of either doing algebra 2 next year or do an online course and move to pre-calc, what should I do
Move to Precalculus if you can handle it
I mean I have an A+ in honors geo as I have in every class so I feel like I can handle it
Then go for it
My friend did Algebra 2 over the summer and she’s doing fine in precalc
Opinions on my future class schedule?

How the heck can you take AP Stats as a sophomore?????
And calc BC and a Jr?
That’s not even possible at my school I’m pretty sure. To even get to BC you have to be a grade ahead in math as a freshman
What the—
My school lets people advanced easily
Yeah our school only has the AP calc classes and you have to take precalc first (unless your a math genius)
So I’m a sophomore taking geo/algebra 2
Which is considered slightly more advanced than normal math because it condenses 2 years into 1
Oh ok
Sorry that just weirded me out lol
Lol
This looks good
Senior year I’d pick a second sem math course as well, calc3 is only half a year. What’s “programming 1” and what do you plan to major in?
Looks pretty solid
I think most schools require precalc and all the prerequisites just as yours does. If you’re in bc calc early, it just means you usually did extra math before (self study, program like kumon, etc)
Yeah. I’m bad at math so I wouldn’t be one to just skip it lol
I admire those who can self study a course like math tho
Help
I wouldn’t say you’re bad at math, you’re in an advanced class, other people just put a lot of time into it
That advanced class was an accident lol. I thought it was the standard class
It’s not as hard as you think. It just takes time and practice
But I have the same grade in it as I normally do in math
I don’t have that discipline and I would end up breaking my computer out of frustration
That’s great, so you were ready for it
Haha I feel that, I definitely don’t have great discipline to sit and study either
I guess lol
What helps me is I find a problem that’s really interesting
so is im2 and im3 good idea in one year then imma take pre calc in sophmore with graphic design, and then imma take AP math 1 in junior with Computer Science and AP math 2 in senior is this a good choice or no?
And just explore it and learn the other concepts I need for it along the way
Also help on this
I don’t even study that much in general so studying my least favourite subject sounds awful
But that’s not for everyone, I get it.
Yeah that’s fair
Try to put time in outside of school to study the subjects you do enjoy
I really put time into studying for AP exams and finals 0-0
Oh btw were you the one who wanted to go to med school
Like I’ll do some things 1-2 days before to make sure I’m okay. My math class allows one sheet of notes on tests so I do that
Yes
That’s good
Speaking of AP exams… mines coming up in about 7 weeks
I’ve never done one before
Hopefully haha. What’s your goal for each?
5s xD I wanna be sure they get accepted for credit wherever I end up going
It kinda is but really old timey religious based political nonsense aren’t the most interesting thing. I don’t mind more recent things though (late 1700’s +)
That’s fair. I’m hoping for a 5 but I would be okay with a 4
Because I have to write multiple essays for that exam
help
so is im2 and im3 good idea in one year then imma take pre calc in sophmore with graphic design, and then imma take AP math 1 in junior with Computer Science and AP math 2 in senior is this a good choice or no?
And this
My friend recommended you shadow a doc (basically follow them around for a day). Reach out to someone at a local institution (academic) would be best but you could do a local ER doc or primary care doc and see if they’d let you shadow them for a day.
Yeah that makes sense, I get how it could get a bit stale
The essays sound rough tho 😭
I would love to shadow but I’m not sure how to reach out/ who to reach out too. Also my town only has a community collage I’m pretty sure
What is AP math1? And im1 and 2
Had the same question
INTERGRATED MATH 1 and INTERGRATED MATH 2
And IM3 is same thing
so basically its highschool math
Yeah. So there’s a DBQ (document based question) where you get 9 documents and a prompt that relates to said documents. You have to write an essay analysing the prompt and it sucks. The LEQ (long essay question) is one where you get no documents or anything. You just have to know. You get 3 options for the prompts though
You can reach out to someone further if you need to, just something in driving distance prob lol. And it doesn’t need to be someone you know, just ask a couple random from that department (don’t go emailing the whole dept tho)
Oh im actually IB math 1 and ib math 2
Ah that makes sense. Are AP math 1 and 2 just ab and bc calc?
Well the community collage is already far. Also I’m 15 and don’t have my own car
So I have to take the city bus to get where I’m going
There’s a medical facility around 20 minutes from my school so maybe I could ask from there
That’s a good idea, try that
And put some effort into who you ask. Research who they are, what they do, etc
Okay
Yes but its like calc and trig and ib is like the real life way of doing it
So is it ib or AP math?
And try joining the med or premed discord, people there can help you out too :)
Okay, thank you
Yeah np
So is that a good idea?
I still don’t really get what the later courses are, but it seems good yeah
whats ap euro
AP European History
We’re finishing WW2 tmr and starting the Cold War next week
oh nice
At my school, calc 3 is a year long course. Programming 1 is the continuation of a computer intro class I’m taking now, and I was thinking about taking it for a cte honors certificate, which I get if I take two years. I’m not too sure of my major yet, but I was thinking about either computer science or biomedical engineering.
Man some schools do the craziest shit. If it’s a then aight ig just do that. If you don’t need to take csa then maybe skip that, to me both AP cs classes aren’t really worth it but I do programming outside of school so maybe they are.
Imo I’d replace apes with something more focused, maybe another math class (Lin alg or dqs) or programming not really sure. You might be able to find something better if you do dual enrollment.
Overall looks solid, that should be fine
Ok thank you!
WHAT
me who’s not even on ww1 yet
Hello! Does anyone have any insight upon AP European History? Tips would be greatly appreciated (Coursework,Expectations,Exams)
Lol
Your teacher should probably get on it
Hi! Yes, it depends on your teacher, but it’s generally a semi difficult course. I would highly recommend studying and truly understanding material due to the amount of analysis in it (also, thinking critically will help very much). Make sure to read the textbook if you have one, take lots of notes, and try your best! If you don’t enjoy history, it will be a difficult year for you, but if you do, you’ll really enjoy the class! I love it personally
^ also, regarding the analysis, your teacher will explain it to you, but it may take some time to develop that skill
Also one last thing, if your teacher starts right at the Renaissance, I would t recommend self studying the end of the Middle Ages for a better understanding
Thank you! This definitely will assist me in the near future! I personally also heavily enjoy historical references and content, the information will be of much benefit! So yet again I thank you for the effort put into informing me upon this topic!
Regarding pacing of the class, is it mostly dependent on the teacher or the course?
Of course, then you’re really going to enjoy the class!
Yes, it does generally depend on the teacher because my teacher is currently about to start the Cold War (last unit of AP Euro) while my friend’s teacher is on ww1 (8th out of 11 units)
Ok! That does assist my perception with this course, thank you for the information given! I will definitely be using these tactics to my greatest advantage in AP Euro
No problem, good luck!
Chem or bio
I’m planning on taking 5 AP’s: stats, lang, apush, physics, and chem or bio
Is ap world hard?
Whichever interests you more and is more in line with your major
Which one should I choose for biomedical engineering?
Lots of notes and writing but nah
Hmm, maybe you could do one junior year and one senior?
i think you should try to add ap physics, ap chem, or ap bio somewhere in your schedule
Help I’m applying for freshman classes should I apply for marketing or sales can some also explain what they are ;-;
Take physics for sure
If you think you’re up for it you could try calc bc
And yeah I’d agree with the above, add physics
What’s “intro to software technology”? Could be good but to me it sounds like a useless course that you could probably skip
should i be trying to take as many AP as possible?
its always best to take AP classes to show you want to challenge yourself, especially as you progress in hs, but for your mental stability only take APs about things you're passionate about
or ones that you're motivated for
and if that happens to include a lot of APs go for it
if not thats fine just focus on those and other things you're interested in thru electives, extracirriculars, etc
like im taking ap world next year and i had the option of taking ap euro next year too but im not a gung-ho global fan
i wasnt sure if i should be stacking up on APs
I consider it like a medium-difficulty AP. Your teacher can definitely make it harder or easier than it should be, but if I had to rank the AP social studies classes by difficulty with 1 being the most difficult, it's about a 4 out of 9. The class itself isn't that bad, but the exam loves pulling from early units for everything so that ups the difficulty of the course a bit
unless you need to meet a quota on APs or you have a social studies based interest, I wouldn't take both World and Euro. Though they aren't fully the same, a lot of World teachers make their curriculum pretty similar to Euro and a lot of stuff you cover ends up overlapping, with the exception of like royal families and some like gritty, nitpicky details
Thanks Yang
yessir
Is it fine to take a study hall?
-algebra
-study hall
-religion (Luthren School, required)
-APUSH
-earth and space science
-business law 1st sem, health second
-English
-intro to Engineering and design
-choir
-French? I’m going to see if I can take and online class outside of school hours because I would really like to take choir.
I’m just worried about being at school from 7am to 8pm at the latest cause of drama and robotics, and then doing 30-90 minutes of apush reading and then an hour class of French then whatever other homework and have time to eat and sleep. This is for sophomore year and I have to have a study hall.
Thoughts? Is it too much?
Wait is this good for someone that want to get in to like usc or ucla
Im in 9th btw
What do the stars by the senior year stuff mean?
It means a maybe
Like I have not decided If I want those classes
Ima change mine and take H.Physiology instead of design
Ok so remember that coversation we talked about math courses? I have an update
Yeah I vaguely remember. What ya got?
So i talked with my mum and dad and they said if i take Calc BC i wouldnt have anything to do in 12th grade and they have to pay money so thry arent willing. Plus they say its too stressful on me and i will have bad grades
So i have to take AB even though i dont want to
I don’t think so, if you can do calc bc you can probably do mv and Lin alg just fine, idk anyone who’s had a problem with that
Well like i said earlier, i dont have any more math courses my school offers, so then my psrents would have to go to some college and pay money and they arent willing to do that
Quick question, did any of you guys take/currently have JROTC? How is it? I already signed up and know some info about it, but I don't want to be surprised. The description was kinda vague
I don’t wanna tell you what to do, but any means, and maybe I’m projecting but to me I don’t really listen to family about my classes. You know what you’re capable of doing/taking and if you feel like you can do it then do so.
Have you asked your school if they would pay for it, or seen if your state offers dual enrollment aid?
No im in 8th gr sry
that's fine, ty anyways
I havent talked with my conselour about it. Great point ty!
As you near your senior year, I would specialize the type of classes your according to the type of major you plan to do. You have a very rigorous schedule planned out for yourself, which colleges love to see. Although it will be challenging, so make sure to prioritize your mental health and find a good balance between school life and your personal life. Also, don’t feel bad if you want to drop some AP classes later on, it’s completely normal and fine.
Hm 8th grade and calc would be junior year, right? That’s still a bit of time to figure things out. I’d keep this in mind going forward and I believe you can work something out that you’ll enjoy. Don’t listen to someone who says you can’t do something, very often you just have to push a little harder or find another solution, something I’ve learned after being rejected many times.
That being said, also don’t force it because you feel like you need to. Most things won’t make too big of an impact and if you don’t think you can handle it don’t push yourself too far
Some community colleges even offer free courses. The nearest one to me offers all their courses for free to high school students
Yep, same here
Im taking it next yr(maybe)
I didn’t know there was more math past calc until 8th haha
And like THEBIGTHREE said, do what’s best for you, not others
Ill have to check to see
Freshman year Calc BC?? Wow
That’s impressive
I found out in 9th when my Algebra 2 teacher told me 💀
Yh ty
Well my parents keep pushing me to take AB
What’s their reasoning there? Do you think you can do BC? What do your teachers think, as well?
I’m possibly taking it as a junior but I’ve never met a someone do AP Calc bc in 9th so props to you bro
- Too streesed out and as a result bad grades
- run out of math courses, going too fast, and paying moneu
The first point is pretty reasonable
Running out of math classes is fair cause you’ll still have sophomore, junior, and senior year but I’m sure you could find some
I talked to my math tescher and she said i was good taking either but prefered AB so i dont run out of math courses and i believe i am capable of bc
Do you think you might be too overwhelmed and your grades would drop?
Ty!
Oh ok thank you
Are you in Precalc rn?
I mean if i organize myself and stop procrastinating
That definitely helps
Are you capable of doing that?
Yh, iow Hon Trig/ Col Al
I have to admit i procrastinate sometimes .... i need to correct that
Its precalc i believe
Ah ok
I think running out of courses is a ridiculous reason not to take bc. Who cares if you run out? There’s a very solid chance you’ll be able to get a course for free or cheap somewhere, and if not you can self study, take an online course, or focus on other classes. Filling in an extra math class because you’ll finish everything else too soon is quite frankly a waste of your time
That’s alright, many people struggle with that. But don’t just assume that it will go away. That being said I think the jump from ab to bc isn’t too bad, and if you think you can do it I’d go for it
Thats what im saying but my parents want me to be easier and more comfortable
I need to set up a schedule and maybe stop looking at my phone too much lol
Ty for the advice, i appreciate it, def will talk to my counselor tmrw abt this
Alright, sounds good. Lmk what they say I’ll be curious. Making sure you don’t struggle in the class is definitely necessary, but personally I don’t think that will happen and there are steps you can take to make it easier
I suggest preparing for it over the summer if you do try to do it
Make sure you understand the concepts of calculus well and its applications
Yh i will, and i have a calculus book that i can use so i can get a general overview of it so i dont struggle as much, but its rly old from 1990 but i dont think it will matter
Calculus isn’t a hard subject, inherently. Especially at a high school level it’s just a lot of formulas and stuff, but it often exposes weaknesses or cracks in your foundation, so make sure you have a solid understanding of everything that came before (esp the alg stuff - really understanding functions is key)
Nah I’ve got a textbook from I think 1960 and it’s phenomenal
Remembering formulas is easy for me, i can just look at the book and watch yt videos and it will be easy for me i think
I mean it rly doesnt matter how old it is as long as the concept is good
Is this good for UC Berkeley or higher?
Exactly
Yep, I agree. Just make sure you understand the bigger picture and the little things will be easy
Mhm thats what im trying to do, understanding the basics so it wont be as hard
this guy is smart
Me?
Ima tell you the same thing, personally I’d skip AB and go right to BC aince they have a ton of overlap.
obviously
Oh ok ty!
Make sure you don't stress yourself too much. Especially Freshman year.
Yeah I would but AB is a prerequisite for BC at my school
Agreed 100%
Yep that’s exactly what I did. It makes the class pretty easy if you do it right tbh. Some units you’ll just learn in an hour 😂
I think the way you're talking you should be fine just be cautious with the overstress
Your Freshman year is your foundation
So make sure that foundation is sturdy
Yh i'll def learn a lot over the summer so i can be prepared
Lmk if ya want help on that
Alright tysm!
Yeah np!
Wait is it possible to get ap classes in freshmen?
yes
only ap class I took as a freshman was ap music theory
yes, it depends on what your school offers
-algebra
How much aps are too much aps for one school year?
Depends how much you can handle
That seems like a lot tbh. If you can handle 10 classes, go for it, but try your best to keep your grades up at all A’s, because it’s not worth taking so many classes if your grades dip. I personally have taken 8 classes both freshman year (not too hard) and sophomore year (a lot harder), and it’s a lot, especially if you’re taking APs and advanced classes
However, you know how much you can handle and if you think you can do it, go for it!
has anyone taken ap psych?
is it that hard of a class? everyone in my school is saying its pretty hard
ive been told its pretty chill, but im sure it differs from each school
Can someone talk about Ap world history, I’m taking it next year and the teacher is supposedly a strict grader can someone give advice?
Apparently it's not hard just a lot of vocab and memorization according to the people I've talked to
psychology is ezzz
Honors English, Honors Biology,French,AP European History,Honors Band,Honors Geometry. Does this look like a substantial schedule?

Dual enrollment classes during year 11:

I'm taking APWH right now and to be honest, it's overwhelming at first but you get used to it. It helps if you're reading your textbook a bit each day rather than leaving it all till the end. I'd say that throughout the year, you should spend time reviewing your notes and maybe skim the chapters you read previously as a refresher so you don't forget everything. It's quite important to be able to relate civilizations/empires to each other and explain how they impacted each other, so basically don't look at just the details but also the bigger picture.
I have a question
How many credits im i supposed to have rn in freshman year
of highschool
That would be a question to email your guidance counselor about. That changes for wherever you are iirc
oh ok
If you ever have questions about credits or cred hours or classes I would recommend emailing your conselor as they will likely know that kind of info
and what classes you can possibly drop in replacement for other classes
Ok i got it i will probably do that now. Thanks
Alr thank you!
Np!
does anyone got experience with Spanish 3 Honors? I’m feeling nervous about it is all, especially since my two previous years, we haven’t done a lot of verbal practice and it’s been at a relatively slow pace. I’m considering taking a college class over the summer to help me prep for that. Should I do that? How should I prepare myself? What does Spanish 3 Honors normally entail?
if it means anything to you, in my current Spanish 2 class, I have 100%
oh yeah, I’m thinking about taking a dual enrollment class, College Success, is that worth my time?
I think it depends a lot on the teacher and the textbook you use because my Spanish teacher does a lot more grammar and vocab, compared to other things verbal practice and listening comprehension. We still do it every now and then, but I don’t think you NEED to take a college class to prep yourself unless you want to. I went into Spanish 3 without during Spanish for 8 months and even though it’s a bit difficult (I’m not a language person), it’s manageable if I study for it

Binge heimlers history on YouTube
It rlly helps
Also read textbook, many kids don't
You'll write essays just get rubric locked in your head (saqs, dbqs, leqs)
Oooo Christianity
Yup, I go to Catholic school
I was forced to learn Latin so I guess that’s a pro now
My counselor is so mean she won’t let me take AP Physics
“Its too much work for her to keep track of”- She’s the counselor
Oh oof, latin is very popular at my school tho but not required
Dayum that sucks
One of my friends had the same thing happen
But she argued with counselor for the entirety of lunch period and counselor finally gave in
Yeah, but now that I know Latin I am going to take it next year bc it will be easy and I want to get a major in classics which is useful.
She said I am supposed to take Chemistry and then Physics because “that’s the way it works”
Are you going into sophomore year?
Yeah
I am taking no maths or sciences next year for 11th grade
Same at my school everyone takes chemistry sophomore year
It's required for sophomores
Oof
But its not required
Oh it's just prereq for physics
Nowhere in the course bulletin say chemistry is a prereq for physics
It just says one year of science
That sucks
At least she allowed me to take AP Calc BC i would have thrown a temper tantrum right there if she made me retake Honors Pre Calc when I had an A
Yeah i skipped their stupid Investigation of Mathematics in 6th grade
And now i am two grades above most people
I took algebra 1 6th geomtry 7th and alg 2 8th while some people are stuck with geometry in 9th
Algebra was a requirement of middle school
Oh I see
One of my friends took algebra in 7th grade and geometry in 8th
But badly failed entrance exam
Now he's in 9th back at algebra I
Thats normal in my school
What state are u from?
MD
I joined because i like helping people in alg 2 and my fellow 20 freshmen taking pre calc
QL-Quantitative Literacy only for 12th graders. I dont much about there is only one teacher and he wont say much
Why aren’t you taking an AP sophomore year and you are freshman?
MVC/ODE - Multivariable Calculus/Other Differential Equations (Calc 3)
Cuz I can't take any APs sophomore year since only AP offered is AP world
I recently picked classes
Ooooh
I would take AP world sophomore and not freshman then
My school has a ton of this "college in high school" classes instead of AP classes
Yeah
Because it kind of looks like a downgrade
It used to be AP psychology
I was gonna do that
Then they changed it to psych 101
I was like wtf
If you take one AP freshman and not take any sophomore
Yeah
You should take one online
Idk why they changed AP psych to psych 101 it's dumb
If you can’t take any in person
Probably weren’t getting enough sign ups
Hmm maybe
That’s usually why they cut classes
Thats what I felt like when they changed AP Physics to Hon Chem
Ikr
They cut Calc bc at my school lol
Server got shutdown for a sec
What AP class should I do online
Cause there were only like 5 kids in the class
Oof
Well there were 2 periods of AP psych so ik it was kinda popular
Idk why they cut it
Probably a deal with a university
Like a tenth of the school takes BC Calc
They can make more money
Maybe this year didn’t get enough sign ups
Lucky
Yeah
I’d say AP Psych if you’re interested, or you could take an AP language
My friend is taking AP Latin online rn
My counselor said AP psych is same curriculum as psych 101
Just no collegeboard exam
Maybe just signup to do exam? Idk
Well, colleges will just see it as Psych 101
Yeah
You could if you’re confident in passing
Or you could self study but that requires a ton of motivation
I'll maybe ask the psych teacher to help me prepare
Been there, not doing that again
Yeah you could but you’d probably have to give up lunch time or something
If I pass AP exam I wonder if I can just put in transcript as AP psych instead of psyxh101, hopefully
Yeah true
You can’t
Because you didn’t actually take the class
But you can tell colleges that you passed the exam
Yeah
Nah
You can do it at your own pass
Pace
That's cool
Yeah I’m taking bio online and I literally do a week’s worth of work in a day lol
Also my school offers summer school with credits I wonder if I can enroll in some upper classmen AP classes but idk
Nice lol
I'll shoot counselor an email
You could enroll in normal classes and then the next school year, do upper class APs
Should i take APUSH?
If you’re interested in it, but that’s probably something you should ask people at your school cause the class varies from school to school
Yeah or that
Thanks for saying it looks like a downgrade tho
Hopefully I can take an AP class next year
Because you would have to study for a solid 8 months or so if you took an AP class in the summer for the exam
Ofc
Gl!
Does your school require us history like mine
Thanks!!
I think most schools do
I am taking Honors US History right now and i think its cool
What grade are you in?
9
Do you have to take some sort of world history?
Yeah in 11th
Ahh ok, then yeah, ask upperclassmen if they like APUSH but even if they say it’s hard, I’d recommend taking it if you’re into it
I’m taking APUSH next year and it’s pretty good at my school
Upperclassmen at my school say it's rlly hard
I can only take APUSH in 10th or 12th and i blew my opportunity this year because to take APUSH in 10th you have to take AP NSL in 9th which i don’t wanna do
I’m sure you could still manage if you wanted
Ohh ok, take it sophomore year then
Our school system works a bit differently
Yup
I can’t, did you read the whole thing
You just said you CAN take it sophomore year?
Ohh ok
I see
Maybe you could take it senior year?
Honors NSL
And take AP World or AP Euro (whichever is offered) sophomore year?
Oh ok
Those are only for 11th and 12th graders respectively
Interesting how you have to take nsl before us hist, my school is vice versa
What about AP NSL sophomore year?
I meant before world hist
I dont want to take AP NSL
Yeah, the social studies teachers are also super nice
We go no history (I took AP hug), world history or AP Euro, ethnic studies/ush/APUSH, and then gov/Econ or AP gov/Econ
Yeah history teachers are always nice, some say it's other way around lol
Yeah I’ve heard this too
They just shoved all the bad ones down the science and foreign language department
Depends on the history teacher
Our foreign language department is so bad
Science is good
Personally tho every history teacher I had were always really nice
Same but I’ve heard of some bad ones at my last school
It’s a great class
You could definitely self study
Ooh that can be one I can take online next year idk
I did
Yeah
Well
But the Honors Spanish 3 teacher is so mean
Plus Im already a geography nerd
It’s significantly easier than AP world so
Ah ok
Very little to do with traditional geography
Oh human geography
You could take AP Hug and a second AP though
I thought it was hugging people
Lol
That’s what some kids are doing at my school
For sophomore year
But I already took AP Hug so I’m doing AP euro and AP CSP rn
Ah nice
School cut AP euro like 2 years ago sadly
Website is outdated so I can still see
That sucks
I like the class
But I actually wanted to take AP World but they don’t offer it at my school since it doesn’t align with CA’s world history standards as much as euro does
Something like that
Oh I see
Yeah
What are requirements for school graduation, I have to take 4 math(1 Algebra and Geometry) and english 3 social studies and science, 2 foreign language, 1 PE, Art, Health, Tech, and 2 Electives.
Are you asking for our schools?
Because every school is different
Oh mine is super lowkey but officially, 2 years of math, 4 years of English, 3 years of history, 3 years of science (chem, physics, bio), 2 years of art (language will also count for this), 5 years of electives (you can take multiple in one year), 2 years of PE, 1 sem of health, and 1 sem of CCR
Comes out to about 220 credits altogether so I could technically graduate by my junior year
My school doesnt allow people to graduate early sadly
4 years math, english, and theology
3 years science, social studies, electives
2 years of foreign language
1 year of PE
Also a 50 hour Christian service requirement, basically charity work
4 years math, 4 years social studies, 4 years science, 4 years ELA, 1 year PE/Health, 4 years of electives
What are you doing your fourth year of science?
theres a list of science electives, i did anatomy and physiology
Oh wow
Ah ok
i finished all my sciences early
Me too
theres no foreign language requirement at my school but i did two credits of Russian over the summer anyway
Not every school offers social studies for 4 years
Same
Ooh Russian interesting
in russian?
Not russian
oh lol
Spanish, but I'm already fluent in a different language
So technically, if there was an AP for it, I could just take that and be done
im ethnic russian so it makes sense for me ig 😭✌🏻
Yeah that does
have any of you taken ap csp or ap csa?
Taking CSP rn
how is it?
Super super easy
Lol ah
I didn't even have any coding experience and now the languages we code in have become very easy
is there any actual programming in the course?
Actually I did, but very minimal
Yeah definitely
ah thats nice
Csp is cool, I lowkey want to major in it
Idk about your course, but you'll 100% have time for the create task
i thought it was more of a computing than a programming
It's cool, but definitely not for me
Oh ok
Yeah, it's more of understanding a computer, the logic, code, and such, but we still did a lot of coding
You could probably straight up take it if you have experience
nah my school is a jerk about things like that and makes you take csp before csa
Hate it when schools are like that
Too much math involved in coding and I'm not getting past Calc Bc in high school
So I'd be at a disadvantage
Makes sense
my counsellor actually tried to tell me i couldnt take csp without some random intro to digital tech course so i had to prove her wrong by taking out the course guide and proving it wasnt a prereq
Same gonna take ap calc bc as senior
Yeah there literally isn't one
Makes sense, idk if we'll even have it my senior year
technically csp and csa arent even linked either
but they set everything up in "pathways" at my school
Oh sad
But I'm going to try and possibly try it junior year if we have it
Ahh ok
Nice
Other options prob calc ab and stats
only ap math i really plan to take is stat
Yeah I'm definitely doing Calc Ab junior year
Trying to do BC instead
Ah
it really isnt advisable for an aspiring CS major but i dont want the pain of ap calc in HS
I hate graphs and charts lmao
In AP world hist tests they are so annoying
and i love them XD
Fair enough
You will not enjoy precalc or calc then
Are you taking precalc next year
i didnt take the ap world exam because it was first sem freshman year and i never knew about ap classes and what to do in them lmao
Oof well got no other options
Algebra II trig
Pre calc and calc junior year and yes my school has an option for where it's semester courses
Fair enough, I had AP Hug first semester and didn't learn anything lol
Ohh ok
We don't
Oof
i had it second sem and my teacher didnt really teach us just gave us As and that was it lol
Yup
Literally my teacher
He was awesome though
samee
he was one of the soccer coaches at my school
It was Covid year so he had to put a whole year’s worth into 1 sem
So they barely had any time to do it
ah i see, my school doesnt really do year based classes
so we are consistently shoving everything into one semester
Interesting
That’s interesting
What state are u from or outside us?
I like the year long classes more tbh
im in GA
Semesters really messed up Spanish for me
Cause I went 8 months without it lol
have any of you taken ap music theory?
Nope
im also taking that next year
I think they stopped offering it at my school
That’s cool!
I’m so excited for my junior year
im kinda biting off more than i can chew next year with 5 ap classes
I mean I play piano for 9 years so I prob know it lol
Music theory is just
Its hard at beginning
But there is a time
Lol I’m taking 4 cause my parents wouldn’t take let me take 5
When everything just clicks
ap lang, apush, ap music theory, ap csp, ap csa, then i just have theatre tech 2 and 3 and advanced algebra
Ah ok
probably a wise idea honestly
I’m doing Apush, AP Calc ab or bc idk yet, AP Chem, AP bio, English 11, and journalism
I wanted to take lang but they were like drop Calc or lang, you’re not taking both
AP chem and AP bio in same year ooh
Yes
its probably a good idea to take AB for calc
BC is hell
plus you have ap bio and chem
Oh really
yeah dont take AB 🙏
I heard they were pretty much the same
BC I MEAN
Haha ok
In terms of content
BC is commonly considered one of the hardest AP classes, I am not sure since I haven't taken it
Generally though, I have been cautioned against it.
Yeah, AB is up there too
I’ve been cautioned against lang at my school
Apparently it ruins perfect records
Lang is one of those courses that sucks to take but the content you learn will actually benefit you for the rest of your schooling time in HS and uni
Yeah, which is why I wanted to take it, but I didn’t want to drop Calc because it would probably benefit more as a bio/chem/premed track
Major
bio and chem and calc same year ouch
it hurts to hear your courses lmao
i could never 😭
Lol I’m very excited for them
I love chem
And bio
i am suffering through APES rn so i dont have to take chem
We don’t have Apes otherwise I would be taking it senior year
Cause I am definitely not take AP physics
i know this girl who is taking six AP next year
I met someone on this server who is taking 8 APs as a junior 💀
AP Calc AB, AP Calc BC, AP Physics (one of them), AP Lang, APUSH, AP Music Theory
then two semesters of band
WTF
why people do this to themselves
the only reason im taking five is bc three of mine are non core
Why is she taking both AB and BC lol
music theory is simple for someone like me who does piano and the other two are computer science
They’re super super super rainiest
Not even joking and they’re taking 7 senior year
she thinks it will help her go to a good engineering school
That makes sense
Why doesn’t she just do BC then
APCSP is commonly considered the easiest AP course LMAO
Because you’re literally spending 2 periods doing the same stuff
It is Fr
well AB is first sem BC is second sem
Ohhh that makes more sense
I guess she’ll just be bored in Bc then lol
whats csp
idk shes odd when it comes to that
computer science principles
AP computer science principles
ah
Oh lol
is that the same thing as comp sci
her parents pressure her a lot to take aps too
no
cuz my school has that and not csp
Mine is like that but not that extreme
AP CSP is technically a college course
ah
Like you can get college credit for it from some schools
Like the UCs
her parents tried to get her out of taking band just so she could take two more AP classes
Oh wow 💀
i thought you can get college credit for any ap course if you pass the ap test
You can
depends on the uni
^
k thx
damn thats tuff
@cinder gorge what do you want to major in
Yeah definitely
Something along the fields of bio or chem and maybe do a premed track
i really want to work in vr
They have a premed program at a college nearby that’s really good and shaves 4 years off the whole process of being a doctor
That’s cool!
You should take video game design
ik something with cs but vr is my end goal
Ah ok
and tbh i want to start my own company
My mom is a director of the cs people but she was a bio major lol
im really ambitious i guess 💀
Oooh
You should look into business or Econ then
well i want to do an entrepreneurship minor in uni
That’s cool
that way i have the experience but its not my major
That makes sense
What do you want to major in?
ive been looking into this at mit
Ohh ok
its like a neuroscience cs mixture
Mit wow
That’s really cool
My dad has a phd in neuroscience
I kind of want to do that
i know its a little cringe but i watched sao a few years ago and ever since then ive really loved the idea of full dive vr 😭✌🏻
Nooo that’s such a cute story!
so neuroscience and cs kinda blend together naturally for me
thats really cool!
Ah ok
You should definitely do Calc in hs
Will definitely make you a contender
i mean
eeeee
i like a lot more stat/probability math
calc just scares me
Ahh ok
You could do both
And drop Calc
If it’s too much
well honestly im trying to graduate early
Ohh ok
That’s cool
i mean ive had a lot of pressure to stay in till the end
I’m would not be ready to go to college a year early lol
well my school only allows you to graduate a semester early
Oh that’s cool!
not really
Well, you’d have more time to do stuff outside of school
i think if you are ready to graduate a year early you should be able to ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah that’s fair
i was considering getting a work from home programming job until i went to uni
That would be pretty cool
Idk how that would work though as a high school graduate
and i could get a lot of money saved up
half of programmers dont get a cs degree
you dont need one
Cause I know a lot of companies wait until after people get their bachelors and you have a higher starting salary if you have a masters degree
Oh that’s interesting
you have to be good in your language obviously
Yeah definitely
but degrees arent usually required for just simple engineer jobs
Ohh ok
I heard a lot of bigger companies use Java
apcsa 😳😳😳
Yess
Just straight up Java
java is good for blockchain devs and stuff like that
game devs are more c++/c#
Nope, not doing cs
Do you?
aaaaa i see
yeah i kinda wanna work for neuralink 😳
They seem very cool!
its one of elon musks companies ahha
Should I cheat if i take dual enrollment which is all online, like ngl y should i not cheat easy A
depends if its a class you actually want to learn the content in or not. if you feel the content will benefit you in or life or enable you to do something else which benefit you, do not cheat and learn the content legit. if not, go for it.
oh ok so say i take biology over summer would that be good
do you want to do something relating to bio?
idk
do chem after it
which year are you in?
freshmen
i took earhth space 😦
at least it good for GPA cause it easy
and honors
ah i see, so you probably dont know what you want to do yet. i would recommend learning your content legit then.
nooo but studying is not fun
you might find it interesting and decide you want to do something in the field.
no i dont want to be doctor
biologists do a lot more than doctoring.
im not using all of my 20's like that
still all jobs around it use all of there 20's just like that
what fields generally interest you?
no idea
do you like computer science?
no
arts?
no
sciences?
little
what kinds of sciences?
chemistry?
idk milllatry scietience
soundes intresting
but atualy no
ppl will be hurt( a nicer term to what atualy is)
well then
so no science
Lol
im not so sure what to say then
😦
continue taking classes in a variety of fields
am i going to be unemplyed?
People figure out what they want to do in their own time
try and see what interests you
no you wont
No
but idk what i wanna be
but you have to find some interests. take electives and many different classes.
you will find with time.
my elective is an AP
and i plan on only AP elcevtive
mabey AP computer sciencve
great choice! if you enjoy ap computer science you might enjoy being a developer. devs make great salaries over 100k USD.
what is a developer?
they code things.
ahhh
thata not fun
hmm
well just keep taking a wide variety of classes like i said ))
and cheat on them 🙂
and get high GPA
Nooooo
Earn it
Im a sophomore at my school and i didnt take any ap classes this year which i really regret
What ap classes would be the most worth it for my junior year?
Whichever you’re interested in
Rule #2
cheat is better
No haha
Did you take honors instead
I'm soph also I didn't take any AP classes either
The only ap classes i couldve chose were ap seminar, ap human geo, and ap us history
But i chose honors for classes like English and math
Dang for me the only one was ap world history
Im probably taking ap seminar next year
What is it
From what i heard
Its like skill based learning, presentations, group work, resesrch etc
I wish i did it this year
Feels bad to be wasting time
Ig not
I heard AP seminar is pretty great especially if you’re into research
Cause it’s a prerequisite at many schools for AP research
Are you really good at them?
Or have a leadership role?
Idk
Im a sophomore so yea
I played soccer in the fall this year
Yea
What were some of the stuff you were doing?
Do you think you could get recruited?
I honestly have no idea
But theres a chance ig
Do you guys know if I need to take a foreign language all 4 years?
Im going into hs next year should i take 2 languages (one continued from middle school and one new)
What is the one continued from middle school
