Perhaps, but I feel like you would need to make it super unique
i wish there was a 13th grade
Why
yeah i'm already thinking about what to put on the common app essays since i may not remember as many details in senior year
so i could fit more in that i want to do
and not have to do maybe 6 aps in one year
yeah :(
I’m probably going to start junior year
cindy do you live in the us?
🤯
yes in massachusetts
Yeah only state with the regents
yep
My math teacher actually really likes the concept
also grateful i'm in mass because they have rly good hs education and i assume out of state colleges like uc will take that into consideration
tennesee had them for awhile but stopped them awhile ago
I wrote an article about it
one upside of NY is they assume our education quality is higher cause we have to do the regents
true!
We have horrible education
i see
But UCs take that into consideration though and we have a ton of students that get into UCs every year
i have three more days to think about what to take next year; i'm feeling a bit more pressure rn
do you guys think cornell is a decent college to try for
everything's worth a try ngl
Thankfully already submitted mine 😮💨
Yeah, I heard it’s one of the easier ivies to get into
i want to go to cornell because its only 45 min from where i live and its an ivy
have you spoke to a counselor about safety colleges etc?
brown is 45min from where i live 😅
Nice!
how are the admissions in those states btw? since they're small, will they take more admissions from nearby states?
UC Berkeley is 30 minutes away from my house
Do you mean ivies?
colleges in small states i'd say
so overall
but yes,
i would go there for the ivies
I don’t know about smaller states, but I do know that with ivies they don’t care all that much
ah makes sense
Only exception from what I have heard is that Columbia does not accept many people from New York at all
i was looking into majors and I really like chem so i thought about that but idk what job i could get with a chem degree
do the sizes of ivies vary btw?
Barely anyone can get into it
I think most are around the same size but not sure
Could try chem engineering
pretty sure my friend's dad does that
I want to be a chem or bio major and there’s a lot you can do if you get your masters, phd, doctorate, etc.
Or research
My dad does it
True
Ooooo
Fancy
i just want to be done by 22 😋
Lmao
which is why i thought comp sci was a good fit
I just want money to be able to retire earlier
i like math i like computers!
Then live the life 😋
Ah well it’s hard with a chem major to do that
^
i also like $$$
i want to take ap comp but i have no periods left
Computers fun
If you do your masters too, you’re on even better track in compsci
Very fun
Starting salary is $$$ if you have masters
Comp sci is taking over basically everything
In compsci
100%
Get an internship while in school
Then make money while getting a degree
Then upstage and get more money
Then money for days
yea overpopulation is the only thing i'm afraid of
i could self teach ap comp and then take the ap exam, i heard its an easier one to self study
The industry is constantly expanding though so I think you will be fine
:D
Do something like project stem and you’re set
i love your optimism
And self studying APs requires a ton of dedication, so gl!!
^
projhecxt stem?
Haha my mom works in software as a director with a science background so anything is possible
Yes
in currewntly doing algebra 2 and hopeully i do ok
self studying alg ii?
I loved algebra 2
yes so i can get a year ahead, i was stuck on the normal math track
math is super easy but they forced me into it in 6th and i didnt care then
so i just went with it
worst mistake
0/10 regular math is full of dumb peoiple, i dont want to sound mean but i have never missed a point and the people dont understand, I get why they have the class for people who need it but being stuck there feels the worst
short rant my bsf is rly hard on herself when it comes to grades and i think i absorb the negative energy
same fav subject, one right answer and a definite way to get there, no weird grading like in english
im like that, i get mad over anything below a 97
I’m in normal precalc and generally you just got to deal and ask good questions
That’s what makes you stand out
i sit next to her in math LMAO i have the same grade as her, we're becoming the same person sadly
Just wait until you start taking APs…
Attitude will change
I still get upset with anything under a 95 lol but
yeah i heard from my world friends
also enlighten us with your ap experience blueefin!!!!!
they are ok with 85s on their essays
Heck no
Not ok with that
That was triggering 😅
But APs right!!
So I took AP HuG freshman year! Wonderful teacher, but the class was only 1 semester and through zoom, so I forgot everything and self studied for the entire second semester and got a 4 on my AP exam, lord knows how, but I did!!
honestly i think colleges care more about course rigor than gpa as long as you have like an A
I am worried tho because of my predicament
also in regular classes i am like a genious and i like the challenge
Should I take Accel Geo in my freshman summer year?
but I dont want to fail bc now im used to 100s and feel that 95s is bad grade
This year, AP CSP and AP euro. AP CSP is super easy if you just put in minimal effort and study occasionally, but AP Euro requires a lot of work and is more difficult. You have to have a different sort of mind or at least train your mind to see things a certain way in the class to do well
Yeah but I care about the A 💀
oh word!! my third choice on vhs was hug in case i dont get into csp or eco
If you feel like you can handle it!
bluefin what aps have yo taken
Hug is such an awesome course, I loved the content
Euro, hug, and CSP
what is Hug and CSP
we dont have hug at school :( we dont offer freshman aps and the only one in sophomore year is euro
human geo
comp sci principles
ohhhh
^
Hug was my favorite next to euro
and i cant take it cause they need at least 10 to sign up and that never hgappens
It’s more like general knowledge of how society works
Oh wow
Well we don’t have AP world so euro is the equivalent instead sophomore year
are you taking reg bio on vhs btw? i'm now wondering whether or not they will just teach the course through a sem
depends
Depends on the teacher
true
all the euro kids at school rly like the topics and the class, but not the assessments and workload
a push at my school generally doesn’t give lots of hw, it’s more of just studying and prepping
Yes! Full year = 8 months, so I started January and will be done before school starts
Yeah that’s me
^
bluefin youre inspiring me sm to just take all the hardest classes LMFAO
it is humanly possible no?
@cinder gorge @vale compass I have to go to bed but we should make a gc on discord cause it would be really nice to have some people in the same grade to talk about this stuff with
Haha, make sure that you don’t burn out!!
Yeah ofc! Feel free to friend me
do you have tips? how was time management
Lots of time management needed, especially during basketball season
Absolutely don’t procrastinate
Get everything done asap
Sent
i'm having struggles with time management even in a cp class... i want to dedicate 2h a day to gaming (bc i will reach semipro level soon) and 1-2h to working out. i also have ecs for about 1-2h a day
wow my sleep
made me type faster than i think
I would use a planner to plan out your day
I personally make a mental checklist of everything I should get done that day
yes! i just bought one that maps out the entire day w 10 min slots
And start hw within 30 minutes of getting home
Awesome!!
is this because of the mindset?
working mindset i mean
I have an agenda book I'm using for next year but this year hw is so light I can just remember
theo we're literally on the same boat
For me at least, I get stressed knowing I have assignments due within the next few days (unless it’s euro because that’s the only class I procrastinate in so I don’t study), so I start asap
makes sense! assignments are lengthier and should take more than a night to finish anyway right?
Yes, especially in euro!
This year I've been working in a teachers room during lunch cause I'm friends with him and he is like my favorite teacher and he's gonna be a good resource, I don't know anyone in my lunch but I have 3 big friend groups so it made sense this year to do that
Maybe you could bring your friends into that classroom?
That way, you can get a break but still be in that class
okay! i think my plan will be to leave school to go to my fitness center to do homework and work out. i'll go home and game and go to bed :D
i'm also trying to incorporate morning routines, but i cannot find anything to do other than walk a little LOL
GN!! That sounds like a good plan, exercise is great
omg i became friends with like two of my teachers this year its great
Sometimes after practice I am so sore that I physically can't stay awake to do hw, hopefully I can still get the AP work done
Oh I’m dead in the mornings and am just not able to be productive in the mornings
Felt on another level
Also what is the AP grade equivalent to a 99-100 in regular/honors
Yay!! Me too
yeah, i'm not a morning person so i shouldn't force that on myself! i'll work on a night owl schedule then.
^ That’s what I do haha
Like if I'm getting 99s and 100s in regular and honors what grades might I get in AP classes
It’s a struggle in the mornings sometimes
I don't wanna get like Bs
ALSO
BIG THING
DO NOT GO TO SLEEP RIGHT AFTER HW
Try reading a bit or relaxing first
Oh A- to A+s if you work hard
Nice
It’s really bad for you
Why?
I’ve had quite a few after starting AP euro
It's been 3 years since I've had a dream I remember, kinda sad actually
after i game it's hard to turn off my brain and go to bed hahaa...
Well, it’s likely they’ll start up if you stress like me
I read WEBTOONs before bed haha
i do have a skincare routine and books to occupy an hour before bed!
That’s awesome!!
I made a really good teacher friend, he's my history teacher, it's a regular class and I think he gets annoyed with me when I talk about grades cause I have a nearly perfect average in his class, but he messes up the grade input sometimes and I have to tell him
Idk if that's bad cause I want to stay on good terms with him but I need to tell him when it should be changed
OMG
MY EURO TEACHER MESSES UP MY GRADE ALL THE TIME
Just don’t talk to him about perfect grades unless he makes an euro
Error
Extra credit test he will put in as 34/35 instead of 35/34
i have 100 in that class... it's so awk with him when i asked him to take apush and he was like idk how to do that ure in cp LMFAOOO
Mine asked me why I was in regents, he asked me which period I wanted to do apush not if I wanted to lmao
Lol we don’t have to get permission to do AP
We can just be like I want to take AP to our counselors
And if you have a B or above they’ll generally let you in and they make exceptions too
you just... choose? my school is emphasizes communication
Yes, we just submit it in our course requests
teachers give recommendations, and you need to accept them or decline and do an override
and basically you need to MEET with them and your parents and the teacher have to sign
the form
Oh wow
for you to take a class you basically wasnt allowed to take
Blue you said to skip AP world, what if I just challenged the exam and not take the class
I mean, it’s hard to self study for tbh
My teacher said I probably had enough knowledge to do that if I study rn
You might miss on the analysis, but general world history and AP euro are quite similar
You could take the AP test for fun if you wanted
what is the easiest history ap class in your opinion?
AP HuG if it’s considered a history AP
Ap human geography gives a geography credit not a history credit. It is a social studies class if that is what you are asking
Probably AP euro
Euro is a lot more in depth and focused
In terms of content covered, at my school, regular world history and AP euro cover the same stuff, only world history moves a bit faster due to the amount of time we spend
Ah ok
Yeah
Ap euro focuses on Europe from 1400-2000
Whereas AP world focuses on world from earlier to 2000 (not sure on exact time)
Why is an a so high in the US
Nah it’s the same in public and private
Pretty sure it's 1450s to 2000s, I'm mad I wasn't able to take AP world cause of a schedule error
Is AP Physics C hard?
Rip
Very
What is more worthwhile, AP Spanish or AP Comp sci, I am planning on going into stem and am taking all the science and math APs plus Apush and the 2 Englishes
I was talking about World History, not AP World :)
world history is easy
Nice, I haven’t taken it but I’ve seen the content
Has anyone taken AP anatomy before and what is it like?
hey so i just recently chose my classes for next school year (going into 10th grade) and unfortunately i don't have room on my schedule (due to credits that i need to get n stuff) to take more aps so is only taking 2 during sophomore year ok?? (ap world history + ap spanish lang) im planning on taking more aps during junior and senior year obvs
I did. It’s just a bit more in depth and more fast paced from the normal anatomy and physio at my school from what I’ve heard. Either way, it’s a lot of memorizing terminology. I did well because I find it interesting and I’m good at memorizing things. Only take it if it sounds interesting though.
I am because it does interests me I just wanted to know what the course was like and thank you!!
Well, every school will be different of course. But in general, high school anatomy will be a lot of terms but for me, if it’s something I like. I can remember it so it was definitely my favorite class last year.
yeah it does not sound too bad because I never have a hard time with memory retention. I am taking this my junior year and have thought about taking a third year of Spanish all though it is not required.
I took 2 years of Spanish. I hate English already so I didn’t want more Spanish😅
Yeah I like spanish and understand it but I do not know why they attempt to teach us so late like after puberty it makes it so much more difficult for a human to learn a new language.
I think languages are just hard to learn if you’re not immersed and living somewhere where you use it
That is also very true!
why not
from what I've been told, not much, just basic differentiation and integration. It's not like you're doing surface integrals or anything, just introduces the same concepts with some calc thrown in, but other people might have more detail
Are these good choices for my sophomore year?
- Sophomore English
- World History
- Applied Geometry
- Biology
- Concert Band
- German I
AP World focuses on foundation of world religions and then world history from about 1200 to the late 90s/early 2000s
Really depends on the teacher tbh, at my school it's the 2nd hardest AP, competing for hardest AP w AP Biology, but I've heard at other schools it can be pretty easy
a lot of schools don't use + and -, I don't think any school in Kentucky that I'm aware of uses it, we just go by A being 90+, B being 80-89, C being 70-79, D being 60-69, and F being 59 and below
Do as an A- typically count as a 3.7 or 4 in terms of gpa
Idk how the +/- scale affects GPA but I know in my district, an A is an A and if you have straight A's that means you have a 4.0
Oh ok thanks
Yea true teacher and school is a big factor
Are these good choices for my sophomore year?
- Sophomore English
- World History
- Applied Geometry
- Biology
- Concert Band
- German I
it's a pretty solid schedule
Ty
- Enriched physical science (basically honors science)
- Accelerated geometry (another honors)
- Accelerated algebra 2 (same thing honors)
- English 9
- Civics 9
- Forced PE
- French 1
- Orchestra
These are my plans for 9th grades
Just wondering do colleges care a lot about course rigor in 9th grade, i took 3/5 possible honors courses?
(I cant change anything more now but maybe i could add one more honors course like maybe)
Forced PE lol but it looks great! Good luck with doubling up math <3
If you can handle it, maybe try for 1 more honors class depending on your options
Im just worried that one like idk harvard admission officer like looks at my course rigor for 9th grade gets me rejected even though i plan to increase rigor a lot and do a lot of somewhat original ecs
Thanks though
Ill see what i can do
No lol they’re not going to reject you based on that haha, and doing ec definitely helps on that
Your rigor is fine, it’s the same as a a lot of Ivy League applicants
AP modern history for sophomore year yay or nay????
for junior year:
- Math (idk what I'm doing next year, might do analysis or DQs)
- AP physics 1 (wont let me do phys c 😭)
3/4. Special english/history thing (its interdiciplinary, combines the two and adds in some other subjects) - AP Bio (im currently in intro bio: should I just sign up to take that ap exam in may, I'm already taking chem over the summer so I might be able to take a biochem class next year?)
- psych sem 1, econ sem 2 (plan to take both exams, should be pretty easy)
- latin
- gym
thoughts?
Freshman:
- Computer Science Essentials
- Forced PE
- Adv Alg 2
- Bio
- Adv Eng
- Forced Health/Freshman Seminar (dont even get me started)
- French 2
precalc over summer
Sophomore:
- Principles of Engineering
- World History
- AP Calc AB
- Honors Chem
- Adv Eng 2
- French 3
Junior:
- AP CSP
- US History
- AP Calc BC
- idk science maybe AP ES cuz heard its ez
- AP Lang
- AP French
Senior:
- AP CSA
- Civics/Economics
- AP Stats
- AP Phys C Mech
- AP Lit
- something for arts cred
open to any input lol
Why do you want to do stats?
Also make sure you're ready for those multiple AP classes
seems useful in general, and also for the career i wanna go into
I'd very much recommend against going AB->BC, BC covers the same shit as AB, just adding polar/parametrics (pretty easy if youve done it in precalc) and some series. The last unit is tough but not worth repeating a whole year of material for
my school has ab as a prerequisite :/
I'd push to get placed into BC, or just self study towards the end to take the BC calc exam anyways
if you can pass the BC exam, do it
personal opinion though, since it would be a bit of work - depends on how confident you are in your math
i think im pretty good at math in general
got 98% in aa2 last sem
and i asked around my school its basically impossible to skip into bc kids have tried
Yeah also depending on the university you want to go, you might have some troubles doing extracurricular and doing numerous ap classss
trueeee
ah alright. What do you plan on doing in college?
i wanna minor in math if i can and then get a major in either astrophysics or aerospace engineering idk which yet
space is cool :P
hmm id try and take the BC exam next year, if you're up for it
if you can conceptually understand calc at a deep level (maybe brush up on some basic analysis), learning new stuff will be a breeze
hmm well i need bc to complete our schools pathway anyway
and since bc might be easier after ab ill be able to get the grade bump
but ill consider it
after bc and stats our school doesnt have very many other math classes anyways
just personal finance really
oh what dont take a class at your hs if you dont have to
Usually stats is the last class since it isn't algebraic based
go to something like harvard online or a community college
take differential equations and stuff
ooo interesting
ill prob look into those more
yeah, I doubt it will matter if you skip BC as long as you pass the exam. Definitely won't matter to anything you apply to for a class junior/senior year
ill think about it
cool
thx for the help guys!
I need you guys suggestions here, should i take economics, business studies, computer studies. Like a combination of two
Im still stuck on what do i want to do for high school
Like ive tried making a website, but barely passing
Take courses that may help, ask around, do some work experience if you can find some, even digitally
Research courses that you can take that can have other potential jobs, not just one
Hey guys should I drop spanish next year cuz I don't really like it? And decided to focus on a science based schedule. Do you think this is a good Idea?
Also while I'm on the topic of spanish, why do colleges like 3 years of spanish? Is it just an assumption that students make. I feel like spanish is a waste of time that why I dropping it, and plus I do poorly in it compared to everything else.
If you do drop it, will it affect you entering a good university or does it not matter to you?
it probs does I already took an assumption and I don't really care
I probs won't anyway
Did you check that in whatever science-related major you are taking you don't need Spanish?
well computerscience
doesn't really need spanish
wait
I just want to clarify
does middle school spanish count
i think you should drop it if you don't like it, you wouldn't need Spanish in computer science probably
Alright thanks
Sorry to interrupt but what Spanish are we talking about if 2 or smaller you shouldn’t if 3 or more you could but I wouldn’t recommend it if you want to then take a lot of AP courses would help.
are these good choices for my sophomore year??
- honors english 2
- honors chem
- honors geometry
- ap world history
- ap spanish lang
- art 1 (i need the art credit)
- study hall
Same! but like what do you want to do like career though.
Very good!!
It's Spanish 4
hopefully working at either nasa or spacex but if not maybe researching for a university
Damn kinda same but like I want to be a test pilot for USAF.
ahh late reply but thank you!!
Ap english?
after talking to the director of academics, my advisors, the bio teacher, and ap environ/physics teacher, i'll be taking ap physics I my sophomore year and taking ap bio my junior year
my schedule for next year (fingers crossed)
english honors
chem honors
ap physics I
apush
pre-calculus
french II
You just write essays and thats the major change
unfortunately i can't take ap english lang or lit until junior + senior year at my school
so i'm taking those next next year
Interesting, why are you doing physics then bio instead of the other way around
since i’m taking chem (as a sophomore it’s a requirement) my teachers have told me it’s hard to take chem and ap bio at the same time
right now i’m in biology honors
I'm trying to decide my classes for senior year, here is what I have:
Ap lit
Ap micro/macro
Ap calc bc
Ap physics c mech
Ap physics c e&m
Ap art history
Ap comp sci principals
I have one slot left, what should I take?
Wow, good luck!
Ty, took 8 aps as a junior all As and 1 B so I think 7 as a senior is doable
🤯
I just wanna know if I should take something else
I need tips
Sleep a normal amount
How do you manage sleeping, 8 APs, and extracurriculars
All my friends suck at tests cause they stay up till 3 studying, study enough to do well
That makes sense
Phhh I don't have any extra curricular, I gotta get on that
Ahh ok, yeah I play sports and 2-3 hours of everyday gone like that
Ah
And then I volunteer too
And my parents are making me get a job
So they’re not letting me take more than 4 APs junior year
Extracurriculars are important, I need to get on that
That's still quite good
Definitely
Yeah, it’s average
I can’t imagine 8 APs though
That’s next level
It's rather painful
I can imagine
Do you know what you want to major in?
No clue
I can't write an essay to save my life
Prob something with math
I’m sure you can haha and that’s cool!
I've gotten a 2 or 3 on every essay this year in ap lang
Maybe it’s cause you need to put in more time?
Idk I can imagine you don’t have much of it
Yeah, almost all my freetime is dedicated to school
guys km@going into my freshman year
and im@really like scared
got all cp
my teachers r saying like i have bad organization n stuff if any1
Yup I figured
@pine crown sorry to @ you but I remember you were in CP I think?
Me too
That’s great for them!
at one point i missed a lot of hw and was like very very done w school
can you override the recommendations?
bruh all my friends got all honors and i got all cp cuz i think my teachers like hate me
don’t know how
i can override some
appealing
i have to provide reasoning and teacher has to approve
it’s an appeal in my school
Possibly
Try that
Prove that you can take honors
And if it doesn’t workout, you always have sophomore year
You can really focus on ecs freshman year
Ah ok, maybe cp is better then?
Extracurriculars
Until you can find your motivation
10th
I was in half cp, now I'm going into all AP tho
same 😔
It's ridiculously easy and made me feel dumb but some people need it and if you can't handle hard classes there's no issue with it
hyp3r was asking about cp
All AP, woq
i do all my hw n shit
Wow
sometimes i just procrastinate a lot and like demotivated too
Well all AP I can and 2 honors, then all AP senior hear
I feel you, we usually get a week to finish hw and I always do everything the day before
Ohh ok I thought you meant every class
i want to do honors english and honors science
i type really fast
and i’m efficient when i aork
i could handle it
Then try to appeal
is 10 or 11 aps good for hs? i wanna also volunteer and have decent ecs so i need time for that
Yeah that’s great!
I have my registration form filled out for my sophomore year, except for the alternative electives part, in not sure what to add there. We have to have 6 down. Any suggestions on anything?
is honors chem a good idea?
with other weighted classes like AP euro and advanced english
Yeah if you wanna improve bc chem overall is hard
So honors is great for chem to not be too hard or easy
alr thanks! is there anything i should expect from the class like what would u say is the difficulty level
Equations deff
You better be ready to embrace math
Self teaching honors chem can be a good start
So you can grasp the idea
okay thanks!
Here’s my jr year classes (I’m a sophomore rn)
-Core-
pre-calc
AP Lang
Human Anatomy
U.S. History
Elective
Spanish 1
animation
female weight training
Wind ensemble (band)
Medical terminology (@ local community collage)
International relations
(@ local community collage)
What do you guys think?
I think its really good but you might want to take some more weighted classes depending on your comfort level/academic interest. meaning if u like history then instead of taking regular history take AP US history instead
I can’t do APUSH
It’s the hardest AP at my school
Perhaps you could drop an elective and take it instead?
Hellllll no. APUSH is known within my school as being super difficult
And as much as I enjoy history, I don’t think it would go well
The test scores are low and there’s a crap ton of homework
The 2 at the community collage are only 10 weeks btw
Animation and female weights are only a semester long
I think anatomy is on a 5.0 scale for some reason
Pre calc is a dual credit
My current classes are:
Core
honours lit 2
AP Euro
Algebra 2/ geometry
Chemistry
Elective
Sports and exercise psyc
symphonic band
teacher aiding
culinary (took last semester)
NJROTC (dropped at the semester)
Hi next year im going to be a junior and was wondering wether to take AP literature or AP Language. Honestly I don't like poetry or theatre but ive heard AP lang is very difficult. Any advice.
Are you interested or good at english?
Its never been my favorite subject but jonestly i dont mind it
I've heard AP Lang is good for writing skills which would be useful junior year
Has anyone taken AP computer Science A I’m taking it next year is it hard at all gonna be one of my first AP classes
I haven’t taken it, but from my understanding, it’s easier to take if you have experience coding
I’m current in AP CSP which requires no prior knowledge, and it’s super easy
Idk about AP Compsci A though
Whats ap
Advanced placement courses
They’re meant to be like college courses (in reality, not really) but you can get college credit from them
They are generally quite difficult
And college meaning university
AP is college course yeah
Or smt like that
Well sometimes if you take AP class but major in something totally different it won't rlly count anyways
But AP classes are usually used to impress colleges
Do you have smt like that in the uk
Idk
Probs not
Tbh all this time i thought the uk education system was superior to us but now im thinking us is actually better
But idk
University education is good, but public education depends from school to school
My school is trash
Yeah
Theres a lot of college courses offered at my school
My school is an arts school
Oh ok
Which is quite unfortunate cause I’m not at all into arts
And we only have 3 science APs (not including compsci)
Yes
Oh ok, I didn't know of public schools specializing in subjects
We have a lot around here
But it’s more of a school within a school
But the arts school has pretty much taken over the whole school
I see
And if you’re not in the arts school, you lose out on a lot of opportunities
But I want to be a bio or chem major so it’s really not in my favor either way
Oh ok
Ivy leagues schools, MIT, Stanford, caltech
Depends on the major
But typically these ^
Cuz like in the uk we have red brick unis which are the best unis in the country
Are those like Oxford and Cambridge
Yeah whats ivy league, is that like red brick
Yeah
I’m guessing
Yeah sorta
Ivy League is like the best of the best in the US
University of Oxfordshire, university of Cambridgeshire, university of Birmingham
Ah ok
Then yeah
We only have ljke 5 original redbrick unis
There’s more though
Cuz we tiny country
We have 8 ivies
I think ivy league started with 4 ogs also
Theyve added more unis tho
Yeah now there's 8
Idk which ones are the og ivy's too lol
Lmao
MIT, Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Dartmouth, Brown, and UPenn I think are the current ones
Mit isn't ivy league
Aight
But it's better than most ivies lol
That’s the one

Yeah
Cuz y'all 1 number ahead or smt
Oh so ur in y10
You?
And me and bluefish in y11
Ah
That’s awesome
Nice
What do u guys learn in English? I feel like we learn way different shit
We read a lot of books
And we just had a speech unit
Where we wrote a persuasive essay and presented in this huge comp
Uh we had big Greek mythology unit now we're reading frankenstein
Well some of are
We just started Macbeth this week
Wdym
It looks eh so far
Like we got language paper one and two and literature paper one and two
Oh
Macbeth is thinking about the prophecy
Yeah idk we didn’t get that
I am reading Hansberry’s Raisin in the Sun
Sleep well and you too
nice, i see ur doing ap euro and honors lit how is the balance for u?
Oh it’s fine for me. Honours lit really isn’t that bad generally. AP Euro is just kind of a lot of homework but I have a good grade in it so it’s going well enough
oh cooll
do y'all think this schedule is good for next year(sophmore year) if i wanna pursue law
- adv algebra 2
- ap euro
-honors chem - intro to criminal justice
- advanced english
- french 2.
Any recommendations on whether or not I should take the AP Bio exam this year? I'm currently taking intro bio and would have to take AP Bio next year. Any idea of how difficult of a jump that would be?
Does anyone know if IB or AP is harder?
I’m jealous of anyone who’s school offers IB
My school is an ib school, but I’ve been thinking about transferring to another school with ap
Freshman year you take a few AP classes and 3 dual credit classes, sophomore year is half ib, then junior and senior year is almost full ib (full ib minus your elective)
Why would you take the AP bio exam this year if you are taking the class next year? AP bio and intro bio vary greatly, so if have not been studying AP bio level content this year, you will not do well on the exam this May with intro level bio knowledge
Yup, that’s great! Maybe go for a 7th if you have time, but that’s majority of my friends’ schedules and they’re smart
If i switch my second langauage from german to french ab initio does it look bad?
in my junior year
Yo can someone tell me how to manage four AP classes
@drifting hazel I’m not sure but I think you have to talk to your counselor abt that. When your applying for classes there should also be a option
Well I’d just take the exam and not take the class next year, just to free up my schedule a bit. I was planning on just teaching myself the material I don’t know, how much of a gap is there?
Kind of a vague question, but is all honors in sophomore year manageable? Will I have any time left for extra curriculars and/or sports?
It depends on the person of course. Definitely possible and manageable but you'll probably need to be stricter and better at budgeting your time than if you weren't. But also if you do a lot of extracurriculars, that'd make it hard. Talk to your counselor or whoever does your schedule or talk to some other upperclassmen at your school because every school is going to be different
so in sophomore year I have two options - Honors English and academic english
academic is not weighted
however in 11th it is easier to get into AP lang being a 93+ prereq for academic and 87+ prereq for honors
I want to take honors even though the prereq is tougher because I want to improve my writing before AP lang and get good feedback about my writing
also the honors English classes in my school are insanely hard
should I take it?
@grim compass if u prefer writing, take ap lang. it’s a lot of writing, and i think it’s a great choice to take bc it genuinely helps with writing and arguing skills. if u prefer reading, i think honors english is a better option bc those usually involve reading books and writing ab them (or if ur school offers ap lit that’s even better). hope this helps!
no no I meant honors or academic in 10th leading to AP lang in 11th
We can't do a 7th in our school it's mandatory to be a free period😞
Loo
Lol
Does this look like a good schedule for Jr year:
AP US History
AP English Lit
Honors Precalculus
AP Chemistry
Chem/physics lab
Honors Physics
AP Computer Science A
Honors Spanish IV
Gym/study hall
Ohh ok, that makes sense
Yes, be ready for a ton of hw but yes
If you like English and you feel like you can succeed then you should take it
If you don’t like English that much then take academic
I guess yeah
It also depends on what other classes your taking
Like if your other classes are really hard than it may not be worth taking
true
But if they’re not that hard then you should consider it
okay
I mean my courses are going to be hard next year but I do feel like the improved writing style overshadows that
I don't particularly love English but I don't want to get bad grades in AP lang either
From what I’ve heard ap lang is more about writing but honors English is more reading and analysis
Yea
well I'll have to wait and see if my courses are hard
my hard courses mostly revolve around calc placement
and this is assuming I do get calc
if I take honors bio instead of physics c I'm definitely taking honors eng
Yea that’s a good idea
imo calc and physics c aren’t too hard as long as you understand the core concepts so you might be able to take honors eng if you take physics c
Yea apush is a lot of work
for my school, yes
the work load is a lot i heard
one of the hardest aps in the school
was gonna take it, but i dont got a death wish
i cant say for exact
k
Is this a rigorous enough schedule for UC Berkeley as a bio or chem major? I’ve already sent this but it’s the last day for my course selections so just wanted to check.
AP Calc AB
AP Chem
AP Bio
APUSH
English 11
Journalism
Any suggestions?
you could consider BC calc if your math is strong, it's not too difficult and AB is pretty slow anyways. But likely not really a big deal for a bio/chem major
actually I take that back, if youre planning on doing chem you probably want stronger math, chem is decently math heavy
so yeah BC might be a good choice
We don’t have Calc bc at my school
This year
And it’s likely not happening next year
But I can check
Ik :(( and I rather not take at a community college this year
I could but the Calc teacher is superrrrr good
Like so good
Yeah but you’re kinda limited by the material
And there’s no promises of that if I take it elsewhere
Still gonna get stuck in a calc2 class next year
Everyone says Calc ab is super hard with him though
Damn
Like the juniors in his class are like I’m not doing bc
I have him for precalc and he’s awesome
Nice
Yeah, I mean I still plan to take bc somehow senior year
I’d consider just how much you wanna do in the future
Do Calc?
I wouldn’t. BC is a major review of AB
Oh really,
?
I’ll ask him about it
Yeah, about half the year is the same
Not sure tbh, no one in my district does
I think it’s safer, you’ll understand the material better
Oh interesting, everyone here goes AB and then BC
Ah ok
Have you gone straight to BC?
But it’s half the speed of a college class
Yeah I heard it’s 1 sem
Yeah I’m currently self studying for the exam
I’m a bit of a weird case
what’s your experience?
My school wouldn’t let me get into the class I should’ve been in, I do a lot of math outside of school, but it’s kinda sparratic. So I’m in precalc this year, but taking the BC exam to get into college classes next year
Ohh ok, I see
And for chem major you’ll likely need linear algebra and statistics. Maybe differential equations or analysis as well. So that’s a decent year or two of math classes. Taking BC or a dual enrollment calc1/2 next year could give you a bit of an edge on that, though it’s definitely more work than just doing AB
Yeah I wanted to get the experience of someone who moved straight to Calc bc after precalc but I feel like you’re super good at math and it wouldn’t apply to me😅
That makes sense, I was planning on maybe taking AP stats senior year
I just spend a lot of time with it. I try to make recommendations based on other people Ik. If you’re doing well in precalc you should be ok for bc, but I’d check with your teacher. My school just does anyone with above a 90 in precalc goes to Bc
Oh wow, and yeah, I’ll definitely go talk to him and see if BC is happening this year
Thanks!
Yeah np, lmk if you got any other questions
Are you taking AP Lang?
I’m not, sorry
Oh ok, thanks! What’s your schedule?
For this year, or next?
Maybe take the ab class and take the bc exam
This year
Hmm, maybe
I’d agree with that, if you can’t do the bc class. Series is a tough one, and might take a bit of work, but with a good precalc and rigorous ab class you should be okay, and parametrics are pretty easy imo, same concepts just applied in a slightly new way.
This year I’m kinda weak haha.
Precalc (taking BC exam)
Ap stats (super fun, I’d recommend)
H english
US History
H intro bio
H Latin
- indp study in ML
I want your honest feeback from this: i am currently an 8th grader going to 9th grade. I have to decide whether to take Calc AB or BC. Personally for me i want to take BC but my family disagrees. So what do yall think?
Bc al the way
If you think you can do well and get an A, do BC
Ask teachers too, though
Yep
My family says thay I will be too stressed out since i am taking all honors classes except ELA. Not only that, they will also say i will finish the all the math topics too soon and then i wont have anything to do in 12th grade
After Calc BC its Calc 3 and AP prob and stats
If i take bc i take calc 3 in 10th, prob and stats in 11th, but what do i do in 12th?
Hs don’t offer that
oh my school does
You need to learn more about higher level math
it offers up to analysis
Whaaaaat I’ve never heard of that. Where do you live?
new jersey
Dayum.. private?
Yeah but then my parents have to pay money and they arent in support of that
yea its cool but the teacher rn is pretty bad
but we're getting a new teacher next year so i'll see how it is
Calc3 is only a semester, usually. Your choices are pretty broad after calc. You can do analysis, dqs, linear algebra, topology, dynamics, etc
According to my parents and sis they dont offer anything after what i listed
you might be able to dual enroll
Yeah that sucks. Are you in the US? Most states have programs which offer aid for dual enrollment students
Yes i live in usa
Look into dual enrollment
You take classes at a loca college
Idk what that is
Oh ok sry
Well do u have to pay money
Most states offer aid
I’d look into math competitions if you’re serious about it, doing well may give you more opportunities
It’ll likely be very different from what you’re used to if you haven’t done it before
I am in math competitions, and based on my familys salary idk if we can get aid help
where I am, admission fees are almost always waived (regardless of wealth), and sometimes supplies as well (which you may not be eligible for)
Maybe i can google my state up to see if it falls in that category
yeah, do some research on what's available
Mhm
Y'all what do you think of doing precalc over the summer?
doable, a lot of precalc is prep for stuff you'll learn a lot later, but that depends on your school. What makes you consider it and what are you familiar with current;y?
Well currently I'm in 9th grade doing algebra 1 and I will do geo over summer and be in algebra 2 in 10th. I'm thinking of doing it so I can do BC in 12th
Been there, tried that and it truly depends on where you do it and how much experience you have. If you do Algebra 2 and you do it at a place where people have recommended, you can definitely do it
It can be a lot of work though, so be prepared
alr thanks!!
yeah, that could work. Just be aware that it can be a pain, especially if you're not comfortable with your math ability. Make sure you understand things at a conceptual level, building this during 10th will be important
Thanks!
THEBIGTHREE and I were talking about this earlier, but you could always take a full year of precalc your junior year and skip to Calc bc your senior year if your school allows it
yeah thats what i was thinking, but im not sure if our school allows it
but i could take precalc and ap calc ab during junior year
like together
hi! has anyone here taken/is taking apwh here? i want to do it my freshman year, but i thought id get some advice from people here
btw, in case anyone is wondering abt my other classes: im taking mostly cps, with one honor, and this would be my big push class imo
i perform consistently well in social studies, esp on quizzes/projects, and in general, and i rarely leave w hw (my social studies teacher said that this class im taking this year is abt a cp, give or take), and iirc, i think i have a 97 (somewhere in the 90s)
no way im doing that too this summer
im just like self studying precalc rn to help prepare
and i talked to my math teacher and he said that basically the course itself is ez but remembering things for bc is hard
i’m taking it and it’s not super difficult it’s just a lot to remember (as can be expected with any ap class)
they allow that??? bizzare. Anyways I missed that bit tbh, but I would go AB junior if you did precalc summer, unless youre really confident. Then try to study for and take the BC exam that year. If you can't pass that's alright. If you're serious about math and dont pass, find a college to enroll at and do calc2/calc3 senior year instead of going through BC if you've already done AB
that makes sense. A lot of precalc courses are just meant as review. It really depends on the place. There's not tooo much to remember for BC tbh. Just make sure you have a solid foundation and do practice every once in a while. You really just need to understand how functions behave and know trig decently well and you'll be fine for BC
. You really just need to understand how functions behave
and thats not an easy thing, most people dont. its the main reason people struggle
thank you all sm!!
So next year I’m going to tenth grade and I wanted to ask if ap Europe is really hard in tenth grade
I want to try it but I don’t know much about it so if anybody is in it can you tell if it’s really hard or not?
Of course only if you want to though
im not currently in ap euro but since i am a freshmen like u but i have a lot of friends who are upperclassmen who did it. they said do it only if u rlly love history so depending on ur interest take the class
it definitely is hard but if u love history it should be worth it
AP euro is actually not that bad. I would say it’s easy, other than the fact that it requires some work and effort. I don’t find the class difficult, just very time consuming and not everyone is able to put that in. Also, if you’re not into history, definitely don’t do it then because you’ll get bored, but people generally tend to enjoy the class because it covers such a wide range of times. I would definitely go for if, especially if you have the time! I love the class
^ I’m also interested in history in general as a hobby
Thank you! I like history so I was thinking of going there but I wasn’t sure if it was too difficult or not
Do you know if they tend the give out many essays?
You’ll definitely be fine then!
I have an “essay” every 2-3 weeks
But the “essays” are actually LEQs, so it’s not a full paper, it’s a contextualization (background info), thesis, 3-4 evidence statements, and analysis which is done various ways
Thank you so much! I was afraid that I might fail but this made me a lot less scared
Ofc and you’ll do fantastic!
Hi, I have a question whether my grades are good or not
Hi! Just wondering, has anyone taken the AP Capstone classes (AP Seminar and AP Research) and is it worth it?
depends on what is good for you!
But I neeed straight as
for what may I ask?
Literature
mhmm ye
I passed, but I really need a good grade in order to go to a better school
I got a b minus for literature
So I’m really worried
So I'm in 9th taking alg 2 (and my school does alg 2 before geo), so would it be a good idea to take geo over the summer and take precal next year?
Yea that sounds like a good idea
alright thanks
Will 3-4 hours after school and practice be enough for 4 aps and 3 honors classes
That’s super dependent on the homework load and your understanding of each of those classes
B- in ap?
What was your grade before, and ap?
I did this (or tried to lol, school is weird). I would recommend it, but make sure your school will allow it haha
Yea for sure lol. Thanks
deca is two separate classes now? @thick grove
it's a really big school as well, so they offer a ton of courses and we're not restricted to any path so that's nice
Should I art 1 this summer so I can complete the prerequisite and take 3D studio art next year (although I’m already taking honors chem over the summer, and taking both classes might be a lot)
Or should I take ap comp sci principles next year and do ap 3d studio art another time
Or should I do art over the summer so I can do both during the year and have a heavier work load both during summer and next year
Yeah that makes sense
Yeah they got rid of the complex analysis part of deca
Currently taking algebra 2 enriched + general physics, next year should I take AP physics 1 or AP 2, it would be the first AP i’ve ever taken btw
what topics do you learn in general physics
Currently on satellite motion and eclipse’s, we’ve done free fall and gravity and a lot but it’s hard to remember the actual names.
Ik AP 1 would be almost a retake of the class just a bit harder, but it could boost my GPA, then i can take AP 2 in senior year
I think phys 2 is probably better since most of the concepts are similar to physics 1 but just applied to a different situation
like electrostatics is just forces and energy just applied to electric fields rather than gravitational fields
true but wouldn’t Ap 1 be better for gpa, i’m only a sophomore rn btw
then i can take physics C senior or would that be stupid to go from 1 to C
yea it would probably be better for gpa
does your school split up physics c into mechanics and e&m?
or is it just one course
1 course
you could take phys 1 in the school year and then self study the e&m topics from phys 2 so u can be prepared for C
good idea, bc it’s an easy class for me i can ask my teacher for like some work for it to prepare
yea
khan academy is a pretty good resource for learning
and then you can do practice problems from college physics which is the textbook that i'm using at school right now for physics
this is the link
i think chapters 15-21 should be enough for C
thanks!
Np
I'm taking regular geo next year (rising to 9th) and I'm not sure what literature I'm taking but probs literature 1. Do I still have a chance of working my way up into a top tier school or more rigorous classes later in High school?
Ayy same
I'm graduating to 9th grade too
Coolie
I recommend taking as rigorous course as you can now as well
It will make it easier for future
It also depends on high school, like my school if you aren’t in honors english then next year you have to get a special recommendation (which is rare) to be transferred up
Does anyone know the difference between AP Lang and AP Lit in terms of content?
one is language and one is literature
one is essay-writing focused, the other is reading literary works and analyzing them
(at least that what i hear, i've not taken either)
Is this a good list for what to do for high school?
Sophomore
PE
Honor Precal
AP Chem
Ap world history
Ap Cmp Sci A
English Honors
Spanish
Outside of School:
Bio olympiads or AMC 10
Junior
AP Cal AB
Ap Physic
AP US History
Ap Bio
Ap English
Spanish
Outside of School:
Volunteer work
Maybe AMC 12
Senior
Ap Cal BC
Ap Engish
Ap Economic or Ap Government
Ap Spanish
Speech and Debate
Whatever else is offered
Outside of School:
AMC 12
lets just say you will be having a lot of difficult weeks
AP Chem, AP Bio, and AP Physics are 3 very difficult to keep up with APs for most people
Shit
i would personally not take that schedule
your Senior year youre gonna flare out 12 weeks in
you just need to pace yourself in those classes
AP US Gov is a pretty good AP, i help tutor parts of it a little bit irl
take that your Senior year and it should pretty much be a breeze
AP World History is a pretty okay AP class, it's not super difficult but it's also not a freebie course, it's got a good balance
youre taking a super rigorous schedule, youll probably not have a lot of free time often
Language focuses on essays and non-fiction pieces
Literature focuses on essays and poetry, fiction pieces, and dramas
Lit is your more "fluid" class where theres gonna probably be a lot of interpretation of stuff and reading stuff that you have no idea what its trying to actually say a lot of the times
Lang is your more "hard science" english where you have a pretty big focus on non-fiction and persuasive-aimed essays
I’d do BC junior year. BC covers the same stuff as AB + 2 extra units
oh, but I'm not sure what would I take instead for senior year, also for our high school it says AB is a prerequisite for BC
Hate schools that do that tbh. Personally I’d just take AB and then just study the extra 2 units to take the BC exam. It’s a bit of work but worth it for getting a whole other class free
What do you plan to go into in college?
I want to do something in engineering. So, i want to major in somethings in here but I'm not sure which ones
Applied Physics
Computer Engineering, General
Electrical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Nuclear Engineering
Physics```
Oh yeah definitely do BC Junior year
I look at the collegeboard site and based it on that
id drop AP US Government then
You can take differential equations, linear algebra, calc3, etc., senior year
All those fields have a lot of math requirements
theres two economic APs and both are shit imo because i have a prejudice against taking economics classes but honestly i dont really think you need one
Why’s that
the AP economics dont connect with STEM very well
Why should they though?
I meant about your general statement at the start
is there a huge difference between the difficulty of the prep class and the ap class? bc a ap is a ap right?
why should they what
Connect to stem
they dont connect to stem thats the thing
Right, but why do they need to
they have either AP US Gov or AP Micro/Macro their senior year
which is why i brought it up
Oh no I
none of those 3 are good for a stem stuff
@lofty geyser does ur school offer different AP Physics stuff or just 1
theres two economic APs and both are shit imo because i have a prejudice against taking economics classes
I meant why’s that, like about the classes in general, I get his situation
only 1, I asked my current bio teacher
Yeah I’d do phys 2 or phys C
