Maybe AP human geo if u already have a foreign language in your plan
Ok
drivers ed fee is 125?! oh hell no
if u wanna take a fine arts class, i reccommend theatre arts/acting
theatre arts is technically musical theatre right??
i got that for free š
What do you do in Ap computer science
Principles or A?
What AP courses for should I take for someone that wants to major in statistics and data science? Iām looking at AP Stats, AP CS principles and AP Calculus BC (Iām planning on doing 2-3 AP classes)
where is CSA?
also since i believe u need to present data, taking AP Sem or Research wouldn't be bad as well
as well as AP Lang
A
you learn java
you learn the basics of java such as oop, variables, for loops, algorithms etc
I'm thinking of taking kinesiology, does anybody know what use that will be.
helpful if you get hurt but is also a pretty good gateway into medicine because it goes over quite a bit of anatomy and physiology
I want to skip geometry my upcoming sophomore year so I can take algebra II followed by ap stats and ap pre calculus but Iām not sure if skipping geometry is a good idea? And opinions??
In my opinion, I feel like skipping certain math classes can be challenging, especially when math concepts always build up. Since you will be tested on prerequisite material from other classes on occasion, itās best to not skip any. That way, not only are you not behind on material not taught to you, you do not have to pressure yourself this summer to practice geometry on websites like Khan Academy or IXL. But, if you are willing to commit the time into these math classes and itās something that you are really passionate about, go for it!
You can also watch Youtube videos from Khan Academy and Organic Chemistry Tutor. I have found those 2 Youtube channels very helpful for my math and science classes.
Khan Academy is a nonprofit providing a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. Our interactive practice problems, articles, and videos help students succeed in math, biology, chemistry, physics, history, economics, finance, grammar, and many other topics.
Khan Academy provides teachers with data on how their students are doing so the...
This channel focuses on providing tutorial videos on organic chemistry, general chemistry, physics, algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus.

Hi, I'm applying to APs, there are so many that seem intresting, how many should I apply to without feeling depressed ?
I would recommend at least 2 APās to not feel too stressed balancing your other normal high school classes and extracurriculars. But, most Ivy League schools might want to see at least 4-7 APās to apply for college.
If thatās what youāre going for, go for at least 4.
yes and at most ?
Well, about how many can you take at your school? At my school, sophomores cannot take any APās except AP European History. But with junior and senior year combined, students at my school can take about 13.
At most should be 7 or 8. But I would not recommend spending this much time in college level classes when you are still in high school. They might be interesting, but I would recommend taking AP classes that only: 1. Focus on your passion. 2. You might have deep interest in the subject. 3. The subject will be your major and minor in college.
When applying for colleges, colleges would like to see classes that could also demonstrate your interest in other things like community service, sports activities, etc.
For example, if I took AP U.S. Government and Politics next year and I wanted to demonstrate my further interest in that subject to colleges, maybe I join some debate club at my school.
Yes, it's just that I want to do sciences in college but I still don't know which one and there are like 15 APs on sciences š
And the other problem is that I'm not american, I'm french, that means that I'll not have classes, I'll study by myself and I cannot study too much APs at the same time so I don't know how many should I study...
And I'm interested in all sciences so I don't know what to choose
I have heard that you can just study for the AP Exam and pass that, but I am not sure if I can do that at my school.
Plus, should I take English Language and composition to show my english level even if I already have the TOEFL ?
I can study at home and pass it in my country, it's just way more difficult because I don't have a teacher
Do you know what kind of career you want to pursue after college? Maybe not now, but do you kind of have an idea?
If you are studying for any history APās, I recommend watching Heimlerās History on Youtube for review.
Not sure this will help but I want to mix several sciences and to have an international dimension
Thank you but I'll not choose history, it's my worst subject š
If you have already took APs how many do you think I can study without a teacher ? I'm a junior.
When it comes to college, most majors might require an English class, so taking one and getting the college credit would be great so you take classes that you want to take.
I see
Ok, thanks
I have not taken any yet, but I am taking AP Gov and AP Psych next year. I do not know how many APās you can take without studying with a teacher. If I could guess, maybe like 2 or 3.
I see
I am sure College Board or your school system can tell you how many. It depends on the school you go to.
Maybe College board but my school system don't probably know what APs are lmao
But thanks, I'll check on college board
What do they call it?
Do you currently live in France, some other country? Or are you just french living in the US?
In France we don't have APs š„²
I'm living in France
I live in the US, so the American system has about 32 APās. Some people can self study, but most people just take the classes in-person. For you, are all these AP classes just self study, or you can have classes with a teacher?
I think you said you can have classes with teachers, but I am not sure whatās like in the French school system.
With APās
Because APs doesn't exist in France, I can't have classes, I just can pass the exam because it's international
?
No I can't
Oh, then what you are doing is self-studying for all them.
yes š„²
Are there any normal level classes you are taking next year or itās all APās? I have about 6-7 classes per semester.
I have my others classes, it's about 10-11 classes (11 if you count PE)
How many of these classes are mainly academic, not classes like art, gym, music?
10?
yes, I have like 30hours per week
10
So you want to take 10 classes plus a couple of AP Classes?
Yes
But I don't have the choice to take 9 of the 10 classes (the 10th is optional)
And next year I'll probably have 34hours per week...
How could you have only 6 classes ?! There are so many classes
What are your subjects ?
My school hours are from 8:20-2:34. I have 5 classes per day, including my lunch period.
5 hours per day ?!
In France we don't always have the same number of hours per day...
6 hr and 14 min
5 days a week ?
But you count lunch time, right ?
Also, itās a private school that is college preparatory, so the campus is almost the size of a regular college and thereās lot of opportunities for extracurriculars. So I am there every day for almost 11 hours a day.
How does it work there?
Yea, each class is 1 hr and 5 minutes and some are just an hour.
Also, if you have enough credits for a certain you can have just 6 classes either junior or senior year for a free period.
Free period meaning like a study period to do homework, study, college applications, essays, etc.
We have a timetable, each day we do have classes but not the same amount each day, also we only work the morning on wenesday. We have abligatory classes and we have to choose 3 specialities in junior year, plus we can choose an option. In junior year you have four hour/week per specialities and in senior year, we have to keep only 2 of the specialities and we'll have it 6hours/week. We can also choose a second option in senior year.
bro I'm (in average) 8 hours a day in school and I have live 6hours per day of classes
In fact, thatās about 31 hours per week of school stuff, but it adds up even more if you do sports for 2 and a half hours a day, clubs, study, etc. I can basically be at school from 8:20-5:00.
Yes but you count lunch time, in france we can have classes until 6pm
Itās about 43 hours a week just being on campus. Itās unbelievable and tiring.
If I just count the time I should stay in school it's like 38hours but I always stay more.
My god ! Hopefully you don't have too much classes !
I was dying on friday lol
I do not, but if I am there every day until 5 PM, if I am not done with my homework, it will be nearly impossible for me to convince myself to finish at home. I have sleep apnea meaning that I can get enough sleep, but become tired throughout the day. So recently at school, I would be very focused, but when I get home I just want to fall asleep. Which is why I want to finish homework at school after any activities.
I see ! In france most of the time we come back home after classes because we're finishing late and after we do our homework
For example, this year I was finishing at 6pm on tuesday, so I would came back home, have dinner and after that do my homework
Do people in France have long lunch breaks where they not only have lunch, but they can leave the school and do what they want for 2-3 hours before coming back? Or am I thinking of another country?
I think countries like China have a similar routine.
In the USA, we keep going until classes are done, a lunch period is only about 40 minutes, then we finish up the last 2-3 classes.
That was my time table this year...
Probably, idk
wow, sound good ! At least you finish early !
You have classes in July?
My last day was May 31st.
Since I am going to be a senior, I end May 3rd I think.
no, it's written that we don't have classes in red but the website continue to show the timetable
My last day was june 12th
I'm on summer break right now !
Oh, I was confused because the classes said āabsent.ā
yes š don't worry ! I don't have classes anymore lmao
I am not saying there are classes in July, but when I was in middle school, the snow days increased one winter season and they added all the way to the beginning of July. That was terrible.
That would be torture. But who knows, people at my school might take summer classes for like math to skip them.
Oh, that's bad ! No, in France we don't have a lot of problems with snow so we don't have to do that. But for middle school and for kindergarden school end at the beginning of july. This year it was the 6 july if I remember it well.
But they had an internship to do in sophomore year so I finished june 28th
I see
Oh
But, actually, that was great!
To answer your main question, you can honestly self-study as many APās as you want. If you feel overwhelmed, maybe limit it to the number that you want. I did some research on CollegeBoard and the internet, and thereās not a limit to how many you can take.
Just manage your time wisely with your other activities, and if you feel comfortable, you should be fine. I will send you a link to the page I am currently looking at.
You might want to speak with an AP coordinator at a school where they offer AP Exams.
I know itās international, but you should be able to get a copy of it somewhere in France.

shesh bro
Guys, the high-school I'm attending for freshman year this fall doesn't have AP classes or honors classes, what do I do? ToT
It's a small school so they don't have much of anything but dual credit enrollment
Then do that :))
Idk what country you're in but you can still self study it
What's the benefit to studying it if I can't take the classes or exams?
Does your school offer APs at all?
No
You can take the exam if you self study
How do I take the exam if my school doesn't do them
You don't need to take classes to pass the exam, it's two different things
Most of the time, people take classes and pass the exam but you can also self study it and pass the exam by yourself
Oh
How do you do that
You can self study with books or websites like khan academy
How/where do you take the exams
That depends of the country you're in, you should go on the official APs website and search where you can take the exam
Colleges would probably understand anyways
Should I get Princeton review or 5 steps to a 5 for AP physics 1
Whatās the best way to pass 5 APs in sophomore year without ever taking an AP but getting all As in honors classes
Does anyone have good youtube teachers to watch for these APs Iām taking this sophmore year
csa
micro
seminar
euro
pre calc
Guys is apush + honors biology (grad req) + 5 on ap csa (self study) better than honors us history + ap comp sci (as a class)? My max gpa would be the same for both but I wouldnāt have to take a summer course for bio and I would have more space in my scheduele. But Iām pretty sure there would be more work in the first option. I intend to do electrical engineering and I have a lot of ecs that are related already and I could put the situation in the additional info section. Which option should I go for? šš
R u refering to CSA?
Euro is going to be heimler
Pre calc I would watch Brian Mclogab
For the rest, watch the Collegeboard videos, as well as Khan Academy
Study, pay attention in class, if needed get smth like Princeton review or 5 steps to a 5
yes
I would say self studying for CSA plus APUSH
If you are not getting an equal GPA boost from taking two classes I would say it would be worth it to self study CSA
i would be able to get the same gpa boost in both situations
the benefit of dropping ap csa as an aspiring electrical engineer
would be to pass out of my school bio grad req
while also showing i can take apush
and self study comp sci a and be succesful
it would prob be 2 - 4 more hours of school work a week
but if i spread it out evenly
it should be beneficial
since i can dedicate the summer to something like research and sat studying
so i think its worth it tbh
Yeah in that scenario I would say yes
I'm self studying APWH cuz I foolishly did Dual Enrollment World History
ok thx
Which AP should I learn if I want to study pharmacy?
My school offers AP bio, chem, physic 1 2 & c, computer sci a, statistics and human geo
But i can self study ap too
ap calc is nice
what kind of course will y'all help me choose
I would recommend AP Bio or AP Chem
ap bio, chem, calc, and physics is good
Having a background knowledge of these classes gets you a long way when studying pharmacy.
For precalc use https://apstudy.org/ap-precalc
I think CSA is coming soon, depends on the person who's making it
AP Bio, chem, physics, stats will all help you
if you can, self study like calc AB
Guys I am taking the following AP classes - Physics - I, CSA, CSP, lang and comp, US history.
Any advice you guys have that would help me ace these exams?
There is this awesome website with practice exam questions and study guides. https://fiveable.me/
Fiveable helps students feel confident for big exams with study guides, cheatsheets, practice questions, and live events across 38 APs, SATs, ACTs, and College Admissions.
Thanks @silent sierra
On your CSP performance task donāt try to make a complicated program. Make one as simple as you can that meets all of the minimum requirements. Also watch Mr Rhodes https://youtube.com/@mrrhodes?si=5AZDzYnJy9xeFRsb
Thank you
I was thinking of doing AP CSP by myself, do you guys think that would be beneficial?
Sorry Iām late. I think you definitely could do AP CSP by yourself. Itās by far the simplest and most basic AP, and you could easily learn everything if you use code. org or something else
I didnāt even pay attention in class because the stuff was so basic and I still got a 5
There should be notes for AP CSP,CSA,Lang, & APUSH in a few months on https://apstudy.org so bear with me!
Thank you guys for the info
Nah just code.org
go AP Chem and Bio. CS Is espesially useful in the medical industry now.
just me tho
im not american
Unless you're valedictorian or salutatorian, being top 5% is good enough for T20s if that's where you're aiming for
I specifically remember reading that AOs don't want to see you take AP classes outside of school (unless it's important to your major) - they'd rather see you spend that time on quality extracurriculars
They both demonstrate high rigor which is important to colleges
2 makes you salutatorian
3 and 5? no
3 and 20? no
if you're top 10%, you're fine
top 5% would be even better
Nope, it really won't
dual enrollment, AP, IB, they demonstrate rigor
obviously, you'd want to take the classes that align with your major (1, for credit. 2, because excelling in those classes shows AOs that you'll be fine in college)
guys if I already took apcsa, is it neccesary to take apcsp? I heard csa is more rigorous soo..... (got 5 in csa btw)
valedictorian and salutatorian are seen much higher, yes
but outside of that, if you're in the top 10% or 5%, you're fine
Rank isnāt really that important as long as you are a part of the higher percentage
That's incredible
I would not spend my time going for rank #2
each year, the Ivies reject hundreds of valedictorians and salutatorians
rank is not as important as building up good extracurriculars, awards, etc.
true, but do they admit a lot of people that arent?
if i think that my ECs/Awards are good enough is it worth, or would making them even better be more worthwhile than chasing a marginally higher gpa through more AP courses in hopes of getting top 2
i just was wondering as i have a wide range of oppurtunities of what to spend my time on and i wanted to make sure I was doing the most important things
what awards and ec's do you have then maybe pursue more academically. your percentage is already good enough just maintain around being top 5% is ok.
i have 2 national level awards in a STEM, engineering/cs competitions, 3 state level awards for similar STEM comps as well, going for my boy scouts Eagle Rank this year, (already finished Life rank & 25 merit badges), and state level 1st place a few years in a row for Chess
ECs would be TSA, HOSA, FBLA, BSA, Chess, Track, Robotics
not sure how competetive it is, my dream college would be duke but i dont think thats likely
what is tsa and hosa?
techology student association
like fbla but for STEM
hosa is the same but for healthcare related events
Award wise national awards are always amazing
both are very well known
From what i have read from AO reports, they really dont care what associations you are in or how prestigous it gets
theyāre just ECs. What matters is what you do in them.
yes of course
Idk how good you are in your track, but the ivies especially loves accomplished, national level athletes
cause they have such a broad athletic program
not that good at track to be honest, just for fun
my main awards are in the STEM competitions like TSA, FBLA, and HOSA
im definitely nowhere near D1 collegiate recruit level track
just for context i know someone from our school's class of 23 who scored around 1480 on sats and still got into cornell being a recruited athlete pretty much
oh damn thats impressive
yeah supposedly if your not an athlete its incredibly hard to get in
Like maybe just for example if you are some hockey player applying to lets say harvard with pretty good academics, harvard will probably accept you if you are a top player due to the competitiveness of hockey itself in the Ivy
yeah
what kind of courseload and rigor would let someone get into a t20 in spite of mediocre ECs and sports
you are not gunning for hypsm right?
Unless you're gunning for HYPSM, the actual impressiveness of your EC's really does not matter.
what is hypsm?
really?
harvard yale prince stan mit
ohhh ok
im gonna apply for stan and mit but even if i got in somehow i prob couldnt afford it
your target is duke?
yes
major?
BME
dukes ranked 2nd in that and it seems like a nice college overall so
thats my goal
Give a shot to ucb ? columbia ?
or even outside of the US with cheaper tution lol
like to toronto or something
arent those insnaely expensive
also i live in the southeast i would like to be somewhat nearby
but id be fine with travelling if i got into like MIT or smth
nah
columbia and duke are around the same price
i would say columbia offers much more from some podcasts i listeend too
how much would scholarship cover?
idk about that you should search it up
what would i search up
There are different kinds of scholarships that universities give out based on merit, so just find their financial aid and tuition tab when you navigate to their websites
is there ones that are guranteed based on gpa, sat, etc?
https://sfs.columbia.edu/content/scholarships i think it might be this
Most Public Schools have guaranteed ones based on GPA
But I'm not sure about columbia since isn't that a high end uni?
oh do private schools not
Private Schools do things differently depending on where you go. I am going to a private uni but I am not sure if their merit scholarships are guaranteed. For my scholarship i had to go to a competition and do interviews but it was for an honors program
@median flint this website from columbia has what you are looking for !! https://sfs.columbia.edu/content/university-based-aid
oh ok
Look at the bottom of the page that I linked and it lists the scholarships columbia gives out
Don't be discouraged tho since a lot of schools also give scholarships for early applications
What are you thoughts on Non-profits? Are they overused in apps and are colleges more recognising people who are scrapping their nonprofits just for the sake of getting into college?
What do you mean? Are you talking about non-profit scholarships?
no just doing non profits as a ec
cause i know people who wrote in their apps about educating low income areas about stem
then actually hjust doing a zoom call teaching thier friends
Well isn't that lying?
But if you have an actual ec, no matter what it is, if it makes you stand out and you can use it someway then use it
That's literally the state of non-profits i believe right now
people doing developments of apps to aid idk something like tracking deforestation while paying actual app developers to do most of the work
It's hard to say because I don't have much knowledge in that area. Most of the stuff I put in terms of my ec's were typical and not really non-profits
If you dont mind be asking what did you list and what college you at?
many
Focus on your extracurriculars
rank is looked at, but not nearly at the scale your ECs are
alright sounds good thankyou
also in terms of just GPA, how do I find out how each college recalculates GPA?
im specifically looking for Duke
hey guys, is 4 ap's too much for sophomore year?
my plan is to take ap precalc, ap physics 1, ap world, and ap comp sci principles
nah you got it
i have many friends with the same schedule, you should be fine
depends a lot on your teachers tho
principles will be very easy, precalc should be easy as well so not much to worry aabout
Guys im confused, which club should i select i have 3 slots
What clubs are offered?
You got into the clubs that you're interested in.
Bonus points if it's related to your major.
@alpine saddle
does AP Physics C (more specifically E&M) require multivariable calculus concepts or is it limited to single-variable?
Thatās the exact same as me ppl r saying I should be fine
imo precalc and csp are incredibly easy, while world and physics you might find a bit more tedious and getting a 5 on either is hard
Ya I get that, do u think I could also manage AP stats or apes w that schedule or nah, it would be online
probably, depends on your previous experience but it shouldnt be too crazy
Ya I took AP psych online last yr and it was light, do u think that what would be a good idea if I want to major in physics
im not sure how useful stat and apes will be then
i would say just plan to take all the ap physics classes then
depends on how many are available to tou
you
search up the colleges common data set and itll show whst they want
like harvard wants 4
but some schools might only want 2
there r way too many clubs in my college
im a cs student ,but im confused bout clubs
can u help me out ?
Which ones sound interesting to you?
You could probably join like a cs club then.
Remember that clubs aren't even the best ecs, so you don't need to have lots of them.
Just like 2-3 with leadership positions can work.
But if you have an internship, that will usually be better than a club.
i mean like
theres on cs related club
that im thinking bout joining
do u think in sports, football or basketball club would be worth it?
A club?
Why don't you just join the team?
Oooo you're in college.
Sorry I didn't realize.
here directly u cant be a part of the team
oh lmaooo
Yea that could totally work then.
okay
I think you would only need one of those options (sports related)
Art club potentially then?
but im not interested in joining any art club
i want to
Nvm lol.
yeah there is transfer college app
Are you going to do it?
its gonna cost a lot
So...no?
uff, thats some really hardworking stuff, not sure
ig
I mean some stuff can be done online.
Marketing Club?
Photography Club and Book Club never let down š¤«
No problem.
should i take guitar as an elective or asb?? I love guitar but is asb better to show leadership or something š
Do guitar since it's more interesting for you :))
And you could probably find someway to show leadership while doing guitar as well.
truee theres like bands and stuff u could create
A band would be sick š¤«
Is AP French exam/class really hard ?
im taking aice as well but i dont think it is worse, the exams themselves are more difficult than ap exams and the grading system is more harsh so i think it might be more impressive to get an A compared to getting a 5
our school has both aice and ap so im taking both but im applying in state
wtf
Da hail?
That was such a ramble with crazy runon sentences.
Did not understand š
He's exaagerating
ap french is the fucking trenches
I got a 2 on the test
never again
Where do I study for ap precalculus
Do you mean how?
https://apstudy.org/ap-precalc
Go to flipped math
They are actual teachers with like worksheets and stuff
Your teach might just teach off of that site lowk, thats what mine did. Its good tho
hello
so i dont know if this is the right channel
but i need help deciding subjects for a level (11th and 12th geade)
Is that good?
It's really unique.
i may be going into freshman year now, but iām interested in cooking and can do a program in junior and senior year for cooking that gives important certifications and restaurant experience. should i do this program and miss out on an elective? the way this works is that you go to another school for one elective and do the program
Doing the program will be your elective. And I would take the chance to pursue your passions since high school is free and all about finding who you are
Thank you for the advice kind lightning
Guys next year I know I'm going to take:
AP Physics (probably C, but maybe 1)
AP Lit
AP US Government (I need a history credit to graduate)
AP Calc BC
My elective options I want the most (I get 2):
AP Research
AP Psychology
AP Micro & Macro Econ (counts as 1 option)
So what do yall recommend for electives? Please tell me your opinion, thanks!
Kinda wish high school had a 5th year, then I could take more classes š
ok I think I'm doing AP Research, the two econs, and psychology in that order for my course request for my senior year
should calc 1 or 2 be taken after plane trigonometry
omg good luck with 8 APs! ap gov could also potentially be helpful, as well as maths
Thank u sm
How about 3 left :-;
Should I take CS as someone who wants to study Aerospace engineering in the future? Specifically AP CS A or principles
Ya cs in big in engineering and physics
Thanks but should I take CS A or Principles
Csa is more useful
Help me for 3 left
Have you considered any of these?
AP English + Lit
AP calc
Any AP History Class
AP Spanish Lang + Lit or other AP foreign language
Thanksš
Hey, what should I do if I signed up for a course, and after they were due I found out I did not want to take the course, though we're allowed to discuss with counselors about changing them out, and I got my counselor to replace the class I wanted switched out (I watched her do it, though she expressed that it's not guarunteed as she can only add classes to request courses rather than remove), and recently we got to see the list of some of our classes this coming year and the class that I told my counselor to switch out was among the list of my classes? I really don't want to take the course for several reasons but one of them being It's a two semester class with a dedication aspect to it, so I feel like if a college saw my courses and saw I didn't stick to a course that I presumably wanted to try, I'm worried they'll think of my character as dim
anyone doin economics here?
Hi everyone, I have an extra spot available in my schedule for next year (sophomore year). I want to go into something tech/business, I did AP CSP freshmen year, and I am going to take AP CSA this year, I am planning to take AP Micro and Micro in junior year. I wanted to ask you all if you have a suggestion on which other course I should take.
I would take AP CSA. It teaches more advanced tech stuff. An alternative would be some kind of AP math class. Or just take a class you enjoy. Hope this helps!
Do u mean calculus
Calc is short for calculus
Question, I'm a senior in high school, who has only taken regular English classes, and wants to take an AP English class for my final year. Should I take AP Lit or AP Lang? Or don't take any AP English classes at all
I have mentioned it ( bc ) so i thought u talked about other one
You canāt take ap lit until you take ap lang. so you have no choice but lang
It might depend on your school. I haven't taken lang yet, but I'm jumping straight into lit (along with some other peers) because my school wants to keep the class cohorts aligned. I spoke with the lit teacher about concerns in gaps in knowledge, and he said it wouldn't be an issue as the content is pretty different.
thatās not true
Oh my bad. At my school this is Trey
True
We canāt take one without taking the other
Ap Lang does help build the foundation for lit tho so I still recommend it first
Itās easier too
Lang seems more useful than lit as well
I think lit focuses more on analyzing complex literature
Which isnāt too important
Imma try to take AP Lit, but if it's too hard I'm probably just gonna change to AP Lang
Im international, shoud i choose ab or bc?
Should I take AP Spanish Lang after I've already completed my 3 years of a language or should I replace it with Dual Enrollment? I'm just wondering if the ap would look really good to colleges, and I don't know if I should give it up....
iirc college do look for 4 years of language if possible
What are the other language courses?
If they were Spanish then definitely pursue the AP Spanish language route because it is more difficult then dual-enrollment. Taking AP Spanish gave me so many opportunities. Of course, I may be a little biased because I took AP Spanish literature and Ap Spanish Language. š
Colleges mostly need 4 years Lang. I'd reccomend seeing if ur school offers u to add extra courses online and get credit for it. Some school do
There is English Lang, but my school doesn't offer Spanish Lit.
Yes, my school does offer online courses over the summer, but wouldn't AP Spanish be too much work to cover over just 2 months?
Talk to ur counselor. Cause sometimes they say summer course but u can literally start it at the beggining of ur school year and end it after the next summer
Depends on ur school
Talk to counselor
Yo I am going into 12th grade and idk what to pick right now. I am currently deciding what to pick since I think my schedule was messed up by my counselor so now I have to repick and I also donāt want to have off periods but like idk what else to take
Ap lit
Multi variable calculus( after calc bc)
Ochem (after ap chem)
Speech
Ap physics 1
Comp sci a?
Off period?
Hey can someone explain what dual enrollment is? And what's the difference between dual enrollment and AP?
DE is a you as a high shcooler taking community college courses alongisde of High School courses. The diffrence between these 2 are that AP's you must take an AP Test to get the credit if you complete a DE course with a passing grade you will get the credit, AP your grade counts as wieghted and same for DE (1 course counts as 2 wieghted semesters)
Do they both give the exact same credit?
Like all colleges will accept a DE the same way as an AP?
Yes
basically you need a certain score for AP's
I belive DE you just need to pass
but it depends what credits ur college of choice takes
Hey guys I have a question so most colleges want 3-4 years of a foreign language so if I do Spanish for 2 years and do some random foreign like French 1 will those count as my 3 years of a foreign language? Thanks!
Lang for sure
should i take CS as a subject if i want to study mechanical engineering?
thanks. why? whatās the intersection between both fields
yoo guys i need some help
going into: 11th grade
aspiration: doctor
college major: biochemical/biotech
question: any recommended courses i should take? any activities/extracurriculars i should do?
what im thinking of choosing: (enriched physics instead of ap physics)
new to the american education system so all suggestions are welcome š
Ap Biology and Ap Chem might be an obvious one but truly essential. I would also recommend only a fav of mine, Ap Psychology! As well as any course dealing with genetics and disease/epidemics
I 1000% recommend joining your school Science Olympiad if they have one!
I have competed regionally in Anatomy + Physiology
i took biomedical biology as my biology credit, and i need enriched chem to take ap chem in 12th
Then you are off to a good start!
Are you also allowed to create your own club by any chance?
not sure
One of friends created her own club where she reached out to many hospitals to assist with any needed items
theres already some pretty established clubs that cover almost all fields
And possible tours as well as volunteer opportunities
im going to volunteer at a nearby hospital later this summer
Perfect!
Got it!
its the courses that concern me
Got it!
Is there any intro to biotechnology course offered at your school?
Because those would also be a good addition to your resume
I would even recommend getting a micro credential for nursing and medical science in Major Clarity!
You acquired a certificate after completing each course
They range from 3-4 hrs
Great to add to your resume!
Have you also looked into dual enrollment?
Usually some community colleges have a wider variety of courses for biotechnology
And medical pursuits then many HS
Theology 09
Honors English 9
Honors Civilizations
Cybersecurity
Algebra 1
Biology
Spanish 1
are these good classes for freshman year
š
hey guys. iām new to the American high school system. do ap classes replace normal classes?
yes
can someone help me pick a career, I have done quizzes, and enquired family and friends, but nothing really helped me select one. I am doing an IB curriculum so it is best if I have a final idea in mind while I'm in grade 10 (that's the sylabus). And pls some feedback other than "do what you like" would be nice
thanks in advance
what subjects do you like?
thanks, what about honour classes
and also im currently in a nigerian secondary school. is this subject list good for someone who wants to study aerospace engineering?
english
literature
computer science
physics
chemistry
economics
additional math
math
these are my igcse subjects
Honor classes also do and give you a half an extra point usually boost in your Gpa like (4- Academic, 4.5 - Honors, Ap-5)
But again that is an 4 point scale GPA
You will have to check with your school
On how they calculate your gpa
Helloooo, I just got into college and my college hasnāt put out their course selections yet. I want to ask about if Iām going international trade and finances major, what courses should I take?
i donāt attend an american school. just wanted to know. thanks for the answer
Ofc! Np
and is good for aerospace engineering
@merry pier
Definitely!
thanksš
you too bro
Should I take chemistry if I wanted to get into MIT?
becuase i moved here recently, i didnt know about them, and know its too late, i might only be able to do it next year. it isnt confirmed tho
dont do what you like, thats a mistake, do what youre good at and use it to do what you want. like giving you money to travel or buy music equipment. no one likes working and you have to treat a job like a job.
is it better to take AP physics 1 with AP bio in sophomore year or with AP chem in junior year??
chem and bio might be better since some of the topics are shared between them. additionally, i think physics 1 is harder
but it all depends on personal preference
what if i dont have that option tho
if i wanted to do chem and bio together then my only option would be doing AP bio sophomore year with honors chem and then doing both AP chem and AP physics 1 in my junior year
ohh i see the issue... you could do physics and bio together there's no problem with that. however, if you think the workload will be too much, you could also take a dual enrollment class instead (assuming you have a cc near you)
ok thank youu
Got it! Donāt worry! Even after your 12th grade year depending on your birthday you can still take dual enrollment
Definitely! You would want to have a foundation of chemistry regardless of what college you should like to attend!
Alright, thank you!
Can you still get into Ivies even if you only take 3 years of Social Studies? Do colleges prefer 3 or 4 years?
I think it depends
If you don't want to major in something history related you don't have to do 4 years
I think it depends on the college
Just read their recommendations
Idk tho
Good schedule for sophomore yr ?
hi, so i take Spanish and i'm going to 9th grade this coming school year. I've been taking Spanish for 2 years and will be moving on to Spanish 3. In my county you only need 3 years of language to get an advanced graduation, but I was wondering if I should take it a 4th year. I've heard its good for college, although i'd prefer not to.
it depends on u
Self dox real
become a lawyer
thatās the truth
lol
bro your schedule is same as my junior year schedule that's crazy
@rotund stag is it ok if I dm you?
Ya go ahead
is it a good idea to take multivar calc and diff eq (for a math background) and ap phys as a physics major or should I focus more on chem/bio for a more natural science type background
there isnt much to calc 3 but u will take it as a physics major
i would say if u want to go into physics, focus on ap calc and ap physics
i have 2 extra spots for next semester, and Im having a lot of trouble debating what classes to take
im an intended biomedical engineering major
what dual enrollment/AP courses would be reccomended?
is ap physics 1 needed before i skip to AP Physics C: Mechanics + AP Physics C E&M?
is APES a waste of time?
u dont need ap physics 1 for ap physics C
would it help or are they unrelated
r u sure u can handle the pressure of two ap physics C?
ya
im taking that next year tho not this one
i need courses for this year
because i have 2 empty spaces
not entirely unrelated
there are some similarities
in which i can take semester classes dual enrollment or a semester AP class online
hmmm but would it be a waste of my time if im taking both physics C anyways
since they are related
no?
would that be better or worse than dual enrolling a physics course?
so u can take em and wtv next yr
idk what de even is so
mechanics
idk any other good classes i didnt already do
or ap physics 2
im notallowed to do mech until im a senior
im not allowed that either
and both physics C next yr
alr what r u allowed to do
ya i have to do physics C mech, and if i want i can choose to do E&M as well
anything else
do both next yr then
other than physics 2 and C
I want to know what they offer
uhhh almost any ap class u could imagine
There is chem, bio, calc
but i finished most of the important ones
calc bc?
alr
im taking calc BC this yr
and chem this yr
i did bio last year
šš
hopefully u got a good score
what else is relevant for biomedical engineering
i got a 5 thankfully
comp sci
i alrdy did both
ap csp and ap csa
so im running out of options
mmm wanna do stats? or ap psych?
i alrdy took psych last yr
i didnt do ap stats yet tho
i might consider that
mmm stats then? coz the rest would be languages and physics
ya
i think theres also APES but its prob a waste of time
thats why i was wanting to dual enroll an engineering course
i wouldnt say waste of time but I believe stats is better
idk what a dual enrollment is, could u explain that?
alr alr
so basically
u apply to universities (typically community colleges or in state schools)
I took APES and it was really easy and fun and the test was pretty easy too
and u can take actual college courses as a high schoolers
online typically
and ur like a real college student
learning from professors
I see
and they are weighted the same as APs
so its basically very rigorous
but for college credit u just have to pass the class
and the same weight as aps?
no ap exam
ahhh
in theory yes, but in reality i heard they arent very hard
probably easier than AP, but it depends a lot on the college and the course
yes
alr alr
then ap physics c (both) next yr
i might take stats senior year then cus by then i actually would run out of classes to take
and i dont want colleges to think im slacking by only takng like 4 classes senior year
yessir
its fine u already took alot of aps
...Is it a bad thing?
how relevant is it to engineering?
they wont say anything
4 isnt slacking
Plus u already did bio chem psych and bc
so ye
get 5s
š
Not very, it's very environmental like seasons and weather phenomenas like el niƱo
and im taking like 9 college classes in 11th and like 3 are AP
the rest are dual enrollment
cus i dont have much APs left
I took it in 7th lol
ya i will definitely get 5s on all STEM ones i just dont care about history so i got a 4
i dont remember as single thing
nw
oh dang
I only get to take 8 classes a year :')) really 6 bc I'm in a magnet program so those are mandatorily apart of my schedule every year
oh yes im only allowed for 7 class period
i can only do extra because
But they're dual credit so I guess it works
of dual enrollment
lets u do like
2 in one period
since theyre in one semester
each
Although I have to get my schedule changed I only really have like 3 classes + my 2 dc ones
yeah ive been used to doing them all at school but
this year for my junior year
i only have 3 classes at school
š¤£
i get to go home at 1230
did u do the SAT?
im taking in august i needa start studying
i took a practice test like yesterday and i didnt do good so i needa study
i suck at english
so my scores gonna get tanked
good luck
damn u guys use powerschool
So rn I have 5 out of 8
Yeaa
ye ofc I graduated š
just practice questions as much as u can
still deciding
ohhh what are u deciding between
I'm also doing a paid apprenticeship so idk how much of my schedule thats gonna take, but assuming 2 periods, idk what to fill that last one with
med
what major do u wanna do
so premed or r u majoring in like bio or smth
apprenticeship is good
what is difference between apprentice ship and internship
Graphic Design, when I graduate I leave w my diploma and a bachelors(?) degree in Graphic Design and Illustration
uhh idk really, its kinda different in the UK, u dont do bio or wtv to get into med
woah from high school?
Not entirely surešš
ohh i didnt know you were from the UK thats cool
how do you know about APs and stuff
are you in an international school?
I was
Yeaa I go to a magnet school w dual credit, so doing those 4 years of graphic design counts as college classes
nope
ohhh ok makes sense
so why did you do APs then isnt there like A levels or something else there
that they do
hwo does asmissions work in the UK?
Are ap exams an American thing??šš
my schoolās curriculum was American
i thought so?
i might be stupid idk
i thought like 95% of ap students were in america
ohh but the people u are applying against would have british curriculum right?
ye and other curriculums as well
idk
Mhm
i go to public school here in the US
so its probably a lot different
which of these dual enrollment classes would look the best?
do you think
i would take either engineering or computing for biomedical
alr alr
im prob gonna do intro to engineering and then
choose one of the physics ones
i think science of flight seemed cool
wouldnt anatomy and physiology help for biomed ?
that sounds a bit hard tho
i might wait for AP anatomy and ill js take that next year
anyone else planning on taking this?
My current schedule for senior year is:
- AP Calc AB
- AP Macro/Micro
- AP Literature
- AP Chemistry
- AP Gov
should i drop any? I feel like I might go bald in the process considering college apps and ecs..
Are your AB and Chem teachers hard
Or are they chill
The AB one is chill, but the chem was is known for not teaching much and just assigning textbook work
Yea ur fine
AB is a fairly easy class if you pay attention
The concepts are new but simple
I had a teacher like that for AP Chem it js makes the tests hard
Itās extremely difficult to be successful in AP Chem without a good teacher
@glad osprey have you taken ap bio and physics already?
i haven't, but ive taken the honors version of bio, chem, and physics
It might be a bit of a struggle but if you work at it youāll be fine
Some of the honors Chem stuff directly goes into AP Chem
One of the 2023 FRQs was a Chem honors question
sounds manageable then if i put in some effort, i took honors chem sophmore year so i've forgotten a majority of the content
Itās a common misconception when people say āoh I took Chem honors so Iāll immediately follow it with ap chemā
Effectively makes no difference if you do it consecutive or not
I did it consecutive in my sophomore year after taking chem honors freshman year, made zero difference bc my teachers sucked
Np
whats wrong with this?
Nothings wrong w it
hows it a misconcwption
oh
interwsting
i was curious bc i just took honors chem and we alrdy finished half of ap chem in that too so i thoight ap chem consecutive will be very easy
ideal method of taking AP science classes would be AP Bio sophomore year, Physics Junior Year, and then Chem senior year
Yeah it HEAVILY depends on ur Chem honors teacher
im not sure if i agree w this but interesting take for sure
^^
yeah we had an incredibly rigorous and advanced class
oh ok makes sense
yeah so thatās not an accurate comparison
thats unfortunate
My teacher in Chem honors ended in balancing equations
So in that case it makes no difference if I take Chem the next year or a few years following
thats crazyš
And thatās how 90%+ of Chem honors teachers work
Unless theyāre super dedicated like yours
Are you taking AP Chem next year?
in my stem program its like requirwd that i do them in order
no
Oh
Thatās extremely interesting
only like 60 students per year
I didnāt know public schools were capable of something like that
and theres 650 in my class
my public school is trash
yeah its only at mine
Bay Area or nah
theres similsr stuff tho
nowhere near there
Hmmm thatās crazy
Bc Iāve heard so many things about Bay Area public schools excelling
oh
Asian PTO boards š
lmao fr
anyways what i was saying is like i have to do chem xus
theres 4 classes
scientific research in 9th grade which is basics of chem
then honors chem in 10th which is advanced and some ap chem
them 11th is ap chem
then 12th is organic chemistry
itās just honors and AP
its the basic intoe class of the program
Bit if you already know ap Chem then ur fine
What was your last unit if u donāt mind me asking
not all of it but i would say a good amount for sure
like what unit did you end on
uhh we covered everything tbh
gas laws we ended on
but the order is diff from ur school fs
Oh yeah ur basically done
i can tell the units we did if u want
we had like 14 units or smth
it was a crazy hard class
Thermochemistry?
I got a 5 in sophomore year
i have to
good stuff
My teacher was so bad she had a āwall of passesā instead of a wall of 5s
I had to grind like before spring break for the exam
damn
we have wall of 5s for all Aps lol
just curious
how many APs are offered at ur school
im wondering how mine compares to most american public schools
which ap classes should i take in freshmen year?
human geo and csp
yea i was thinking about csp too
ap chem, ap physics, ap bio, ap calc bc, ap lit, those are the best ones to take as a freshman
ideally u want to but its hard to have the prereqs for those
Valid or no
Valid for sure
should i take honors biochem or honors physics? iāve already taken biology and chemistry. does one look better then the other?
tf, this is not the place to troll
take ap physics if you can
between those two, depending on your major, but unless you are going into a major where biochem is important, go physics
iām applying as a history major
in that case do u think it doesnāt matter between physics and biochem. i really just need another year of science that is easy but respected by college officers
i took bio freshman year. chem sophmore year, AP envi sci junior year and this will be my senior year
yeah it probably won't matter
does your school offer ap chem, ap physics, or ap bio?
because ap classes are always better than honors
only chem and bio. iām not good at math so the only one i would consider is bio. but most of my other classes are APās so i thought it would be fine to take it easy on a subject iām not that great in
Like 20 ish
oh then its completely up to how you feel
but between biochem and physics u donāt think one or the other will be viewed better then the other?
probably not a big enough difference to be noticeable
hey yall, just wondering if my classes for 9th grade are good enough
English 1 Honors
Chemistry Honors
AP PreCalc
WHAP
AP Physics 1
AP Human Geo
Orchestra
All I gotta say is
Be prepared to work insanely hard
for which classes
Ur schedule in general seems immensely more rigorous than most freshman
But if u can work hard, thatās gonna be an excellent start to high school
ive been selfstudying most of AP Physics and AP Precalc, but idk what to expect in WHAP
Math is easy for me just working on the FRQ part of AP Precalc
WHAP isnāt gonna be a huge worry
Maybe doing human geo and whap might be a lot at once
our AP Human geo teacher is chill, and I already took the AP exam so im just doing it for the GPA boost (dont judge)
Human Geo is mainly just memorization tbh, and whap is more of ādo u understand what the main points are in this era and so onā
Lol why would I judge
Ur doing what u can to increase ur rank
yup
and ur working hard for it
I would only judge u if u tried raising rank by unethical means lol
Yeah bro, u got it š
wait can you give me feedback for my sophomore year too
can i dm
you
@lavish grail
sure
If heās asking for the ideal classes :/
why do u need a gpa boost if ur in freshman?
but i would watch out for ap physics and whap exams
if you dont mind me asking, what do you wanna major in? as it can impact your ap class choices
very funny
(sarcasm if you couldn't tell)
not really trolling when I already know multiple 14 year olds taking those courses at my school but alr bud
ok bro
That sounds horrendous
except like maybe 1 in like <50k people
whatveer you say
not ideal at all you are going to then fill the rest of your hs with fluff classes and colleges won't like that
What should i major in? (i still have a lot of time so no need to rush)
make that 100 Lol its so rare
Major in stuff u like
Plan and simple
Im taking ap chem next year and biology honors. I'm worried for these classes and want to get an A. can i jus learn the content now on khanacedmy so the class is a be a little more managable
also im taking apush (how can i prep for that)
I already asked this but
if you're planning to get scholarships to MULTIPLE universities that accepts essays, do you just copy&paste the same essay you made to pass to each one? Or do I still have to make a new one for each of them?
Khan Academy can only teach so much
I would say it's good for a base
But u are probably gonna have to learn more from the actual class
Check with each essay prompt
alright, I also recieved the AP Chemistry book from princton review
I believe each university has a different essay prompt for scholarships tho i could be wrong
Hey guys.
I am thinking about majoring in CS
I have some questions and concerns tho.
1-What is it actually, like ya sure we learn about algorithm but how.
2-Does it involve alot of math,is it hard math, can I see some examples maybe
3-majors?
4-ig if I have further questions I can ask
Is this a good 4-Year plan? BTW I can't change freshman classes cause those are starting in a week, and my intended major is either education or radiology.

or algebra 1
if u can
Again, I can't set up stuff for this summer because my freshman classes start in two weeks. And I can't change my freshman classes.
Can you take PE over the summer?
I'm not sure, but if I could, I wouldn't know what to put into its place.
hey, im going into senior year of hs and want to try to take multivariable and diff eq. i already know all of calc bc but couldnt take the exam. would testing out of calc 2 be a good idea, or is calc 2 too different from calc bc?
history/polisci like me, then go to law school and become atrociously rich
Iām a sophomore and Iām debating a major in physics/ engineering or machine learning/ programming I want to make good pay but also want to pursue my dream of physics what should I do
Gender Studies
Yes do that, also https://apstudy.org/ap-chem
should be helpful
Fr
iām a sophomore this year in high school and i for my entire life, and still i still canāt find anything i love and want to do for the rest of my life. i like sports but i really donāt want to have a future job that is around sports. iām pretty good with academics but i just donāt know what iām gonna major in and what iām gonna be when iām older. does anyone have any suggestions to jobs that are infesting, and can really get me hooked in right now so i can work towards them
if you are good in academics just like me and if i were you, i would go for something like computer related like computer science of computer engineering since it has the highest paying jobs and or bascailly go for the subject you like the most
iām not too into cs š
i just donāt know what iām into but hopefully i will figure out tysm for the tips
oh ok i see
maybe something related to maths or english
you can try majors with these
if you want
i am a computer major so yeah
yeah i just kind find what iām specifically good at but thanks
If u into sports u could do sports medicine I myself am
Not doing it but one of my friends r
oh that does sound infesting. do you know what subjects in hs are related to that? and do u have to stay in college extra long. tysm
Should I replace Spanish II for APUSH? The teacher is retiring this year, and I really wanna take his class
Take the risk or lose the chance
You still have other years you could take Spanish judging based on your profile
Major?
I think they still have two years left of hs
So do I
biology specifically human biology, studying shit like muscles, ligaments, organs, how sports and physical activity stress and affect it
it's a pretty good pre-med major
thank you! that sounds cool
ok so i kinda researched it a bit and it sounds so fun and i like it really much expect for the fact that u need to get a doctors degree ššš 4-7 extra years of schooling
Hey guys.
I am thinking about majoring in CS
I have some questions and concerns tho.

no one awnsered the first time so I am asking again
What are your hobbies?
Well I'm not a cs mejor but here's some advice you can take up a short course to find out
Hello everyone, hope you all are doing good. I am currently preparing myself for A levels but in the sideways I want to prepare myself for studying abroad. So can you all please help me by recommending some universities and countries that provide very good financial aids (and) scholarships on Architectural Engineering?
Hi @hazy niche, I am assuming you are from either UK or other Commonwealth country as you have stated about A-Levels. I will divide my answers into two sections (you can choose which one you prefer). If you are looking to get into a good university almost purely through scholarships, I will 100% recomend you Stanford University. If you are looking for specifically on Architectural Engineering, I would offer you 3 schools in US. They are, Auburn University, Calfifornia Polytechnic State University & University of Texas. Hope this helps you determine your future. And remember DO NOT just take my word for it. You must also research yourself about it as well. Thanks -VS
If you are from Singapore (where I am also from): Hi!
Thank you so much @half nimbus for the info really appreciate it.
I am from Bangladesh š
I would also be grateful if others help me about it as well (@everyone)
In USA, public universities give guaranteed merit scholarships based on your gpa or sat/act test scores
You can also get aid by applying to the uni early
I see
I just started my AS like I am in my 1st year so do u suggest I apply after completing my 1st year?
I am sorry y'all, but what is the AS ?
First part of the A levels
oh its basically the exam that takes place in the 11th and 12th grade
