is 9 aps enough to stand out in a top highschool in the nation. i want to go to a top college , preferably t25
all the aps i plan on taking are useful but idk what else aps to take
Well yeah. But rn I have the full year course in school, just cause of the AP
I’m taking apcsp next year, I took apes this year, should I also have ap world? I originally thought no because I won’t have a lunch period but now I’m reconsidering
apcsp is not that hard compared to ap world
you can take both
im taking both rn
What other classes r u taking
Does Spanish 1 count as one year of foreign language credit? (I'm debating if I should just take all the Spanish classes, up to Spanish 4, to get my 4 "years" of foreign language credit)
that buys into your lunch period
sucks to suck
i get an hour lunch
and we can go to any clsss and get help or just sit with friends
Actually lucky.
lunch should be built into one of your periods
Bring back recess
yes
So Does AP Spanish count as one year as well even though the class takes more time to complete?
Yes. If you want to fufill your 4 years, it must be the same language though.
Probably; not sure though.
Bruh
if you pass ap spanish i don't think u have to take a language credit at college
So there is really no incentive in taking AP foreign language courses unless you actually care about the language?
It would be great to not take a language credit in college, but at my school we are required to take 4 years of basic Spanish to even take AP Spanish
only take an ap language if you really want to
Dang a requirement
we only have to do a minimum of 2 years
Yeah I don't understand why I can't just take Spanish 1-3 and then AP Spanish lol
i'm guessing that its cause ap spanish follows a college class
at the similar level
Should I take AP bio freshmen year if I get the opportunity
They said because of my stellar gpa I can take it
ok
Will 4 aps with 2 sports and some extracurriculars in junior year possible?
For AP’s I’ll be taking
AP Lang
AP Calc BC
AP Chem
AP Japanese
For sports I’ll be doing
XC
Track
And I would like to take a few leadership roles in clubs.
Would this be possible? Or will i burn out?
ggs
nah i didnt play sports but i had 3 aps and 1 ap outside of school + dual enrollment
u will be ok
I'm into CS and a sophomore right now. Next year I'll be likely taking AP Calc AB, AP Lang, and APUSH. My school doesn't offer any science APs though.
Should I take something like honors physics in my school and then just self-study for an AP physics exam and take it a different school?
yea
ty
gg
Does anyone know how hard is college chem and bio classes?
its college level so its harder than high school
compared to AP it depends
then again depends on the school/teacher/personal factors/external factors
generally yes it is harder than high school courses/honors/APs
Ok ty🙏
gg
How many APs must I take to be enough for an Ivy
8-12
Sophomore next year, my classes will be:
AP Comp Sci Principles
AP Euro
Honors English 10
Regular Chem
Algebra 2
Thoughts?
these aren't final so I can change something if needed
Depends on school but yeah at least 8
And 8 isn’t that bad, only 2 per year
Only 5?
Anything except that it looks solid
But maybe a world language?
So, it’s fine if I only take a few per year
Right?
It depends i told u
College don’t decide just with the amount of aps
Yeah it’s alr
I do know that, too
But if u take 8 that would be solid
Much obliged
Just try to take around 3-4 junior year then you’ll be fine
Or maybe 5 if you’re crazy

uhm actually
Taking Spanish 2 this summer, forgot to put in I'm also doing volleyball
Because in freshman year we get 2 electives so I did Spanish 1 and intro to design
This summer im gonna take Spanish 2 so I can take ap comp sci principles because I have to take a history class
im thinking of either transferring to an IB programme in sarajevo (2h away) or applying for an exchange year in the USA. the curriculum in my high school is literally too easy even though its supposed to be the hardest school
like
i had worse grades in elementary school
(goes from 1-5, 5 is best)
how do i manage 6 APs next year guys
Can you really manage that... Gohar did say to not overwhelm yourself. Like what he did by applying to 5 APs
But I guess try to mentally be ready to take on 6 APs
Which ones 🤔
If it's CSP+ HuG + Seminar + AP lang + ap psych + some other AP it might be easy enough, if it's yk calc BC+ physics c + chem + bio+ lit + research+ some other AP then yeah ur done for
what is the best courses to be an astrobiologist?
not really the only subject i had to study was latin😭
to get a 5
and i only have latin for 1 year so
is anyone in uni here doing econ or finance
You should! Or you can take advanced classes to graduate early?
my school has advanced which is like three years ahead
that isnt an option in my country
i have to take the same classes as everyone else
i take extra classes for competitions in math, computer science, engineering and english
it doesnt give me any credit for graduation though, i do it because its interesting
we dont have that, thats why i wanted IB or exchange
thank you!
YOO we share a name :D mine is with an a tho
haha thats cool! ive heard that name before :)
where you from?
bosnia
OHH i didnt know that names used over there too!!! sickk
yeah, its of german descent :)
so similar, yet so far apart in origin i see
hey folks! just asking for some advice from people who are familiar with ig and ib
so! im finsihing 8th grade finals in a month or so, and my school quite literally just started offering ib myp opposed to only ig, ibdp, and tawjihi. im looking to study “adabi” (humanities? or arts? i dont know the word in english, sorry) more specifically psychology or sociology, but is it worth paying the extra money and pursuing? ill list off some pros n cons if it helps any
pros:
i already have alot of the skills needed (researching, writing, analyzing, and improving alot with social dtuff and presenting)
from what ive understood ib is better for adabi than ig
i can choose my subjects; i dont want my total gpa to drop because of a subject unrelated to my uni major
im judt generally alot better with stuff in the ib curriculum than whats in the ig one
cons:
parents arent really seeing a point in going ib
if i dont do really good, get amazing grades and get a scholarship to a uni in a different country theres no way ill manage to 1. leave this country or 2. get a job in this country(that isnt maybe at a call center..)
unis here teach adabi strictly in arabic; i 100% will not be able to understand that, and even then the stuff they teach wont get you anywhere
the subjects are very.. meh. not many to pick from
so long..
let me get the subjects we can choose from for reference
@ if you reply btw
wont see it otherwise
Well, IB would be more internationally recognised to get into a university outside your country, especially in Europe, but MYP doesn't really matter if you can take IBDP later to begin with
im just scared about arabic A, the transition from normal IG arabic to this is supposed to be REALLY rough so idk
Hey lads, I would like a little advice on what sixth form subjects I should do. For A-Level I want to take Physics, Maths, Engineering and Music Technology. No Further Maths. Would that impede my chances on getting into Oxbridge for a Physics course? Also this sixth form has a program specifically to help students in getting into Oxbridge.
Physics just requires maths overall, why don't u wanna do further maths 🤔
Everything would be maths, it would be physically and mentally taxing on me.
Like the best case scenario you need to recoup that content in ur time at uni
Then don't do engineering 🤔
Engineering is one of the best subjects I have seen at that college, I wouldn't want to give it up
I mean they go so in depth with mechanics, electronics etc
So I wouldn't give that up
A*AA to include Mathematics and Physics. The A* must be in Mathematics, Physics or Further Mathematics.
So yes further mathematics is required
It doesn't say that though
It says A* in either physics, maths or further maths. It states nowhere you have to do it.
"Subject requirements
Required subjects: Physics and Maths
Recommended subjects: Maths Mechanics modules
Helpful subjects: Further Maths"
So I don't NEED to do it it seems
Oh wait mb
It's just helpful
I already have qualifications in STEM outside of GCSE too
Science prefect and STEM leader looks like those can help.
I think the college that I want to go to can also help me apply for uni. It looks like they go intensive
STEM leader? What field?
Seems like last year they had 23 offers for Oxford
So ur doing ur A levels in a college?
Stem leader basically is a qualification to prove you can volunteer within the stem fields
Are you British or American?
In Britain sixth form (16-18) is used interchangeably with college
Mk so it's the college --> university system
Even if that's not how it technically works, that's how y'all call it
Yeah
So basically STEM leaders proves you can volunteer and have enough knowledge in STEM to teach others/help teach others it with guidance.
Which may not be impressive to the Uni but certainly helps
So it's just an organisation
Yeah but it also gives you a qualification I am pretty sure
Hi
Do further math
I'll copy what I told @solemn hamlet a while ago, one sec
As I said with the other guy I don't want my subjects to be too intensive on maths
If everything is maths it's just depressing and draining tbf
#college-guidance message Mentioned academic profile in rejection
I'm not applying for a course yet I just want advice
Yeah I know I'm just saying based on my experience with Oxbridge applications ^^
Damn
For cambridge, for their engineering and CS courses they mention that 96% or something of their admits have further math in A Levels (not sure about physics)
I'm just saying like I've got other qualifications to my name based on stem outside of school
Could work tbh
I haven't personally applied there
So can't really tell since minimal research
Yes
That's a while away tho lmao
I'm just trying to set myself up to avoid stupid mistakes that could cost me my future
How dis schedule for junior?
I tried taking science APs like AP Physics I and AP Chem, but there were scheduling conflicts
I wanna major in Astrophysics
hi everyone!! i'm a rising senior and i was wondering for your input on my course selection for next semester.
for context: i want to go into sports medicine and i've already taken ap bio, ap chem, and physics. some classes like philosophy are required for history so that's why i'm taking it. lmk what you think (i'm currently taking 4 adv classes in junior year)
advanced english (electives)
advanced french (full year)
advanced molecular genetics (full year; essentially lab work)
advanced calculus 2 (full year)
advanced topics in philosophy (semester 1) / yearbook (semester 2)
climate change (regular)
Can someone review my next year's schedule and tell me if I'm cooked 😸
ok
Is this a good junior schedule?
A.P. Lang
U.S. History(not sure if i should do A.P. Because i’m doing 2 sports)
A.P. Calc B.C.
A.P. Japanese
A.P. Chem
Physics
yea
Sure
I need to take it bc of the 3 year req
Our school requires 3 years which is really goofy
How does this look for junior year?
I wanna major in astrophysics and wanted to take AP Physics, and AP Chem, but there were scheduling conflicts
No I started at Japanese 2
Bruh
Hon Wind Ensemble
AP Lang
Hon Spanish IV
Fin Lit.
Weight Training
AP Calc AB
AP Calc BC
AP Music Theory
Adv. Topics in Chem
Fin Lit and Weight Training r grad reqs.
AB and BC at the same year?
And is AP spanish for the 5th year?
That seems pretty good
can you take AP Japanese your senior year?
I could but I’m afraid bc I might forget some
But if i could, would else should i take
I already took ap bio and ap world
take some random free class
or take an easy AP or honors class
(make sure its easy, dont make life worse)
School has dumb policy requiring AB before BC
And yes, my senior year I'm doing AP spanish
But does your school also you to take those 2 simultaneously?
Ok
I’ll probably consider AP comp sci then
Eh i mean that makes sense
I wanted to spread them out between junior and senior year, but conseling won't allow it as "math teachers discourage it"
BC is literally AB but with a little bit more content, even if u took just BC they'd still go over ab content
The BC test has an AB subscore
Yeah cus the BC test is the AB test but with 2.5 more units
Yeah that’s why it’s stupid asf
Lol
Other than that i think it looks good
I hate our calc policy at our school, but i think it should apply to our chem as well
Yeah but in their case they alr do the ab content so the BC part doesn't cover it
We have AP Chem, and the prereq for that is Adv. Topics in Chem
It might help ur wgpa if anything
Rip
Couldnt you take DE chem
Kk
I tried taking AP Chem, but conseling has been againest me
I could, but I counseling decided to bring it to central office, and they rejected it
What 😭
Why 😭
Then do an AP in school that you CAN do
💀
And do DE chem
Is there no ap world at ur school
Yes
So there isn't? 😔
But i choose to knock it out with DE
There is AP World
I just want to make room on my schedule
But you'd be waiting time doing adv chem so just take ap world instead??
And then take de chem
Sounds like the best way to get it done
Yes but if u take dechem then u don't have to slog thru sdv chem and can take another course??
No
In senior year i mean
If u don't need to do ap chem in senior year ud have a free slot
Our DE chem is not an equalvent to Adv. Chem or AP Chem
What's it equal to the
Which is strange
Colleges recalc ur wgpa themselves
So even if ur hs doesn't weigh it colleges will
Or do u mean like the content isn't equivalent
I'm assuming the content
Central Office said Chem-101 does not satisify preparation for AP Chem
And it does for de chem? Or do you mean de chem by chem 101
De chem is Chem 101
Yeah ur central office is just dumb don't even worry about it I'd say
Like i said, colleges will weigh all DE classes similarly
And the content is literally de
So it can't be any lower level 😭
Yeah
Alr imma register tmrw
So over the summer I've got DE Chem, DE Precalc, and DE World History
And thabkfully since I've knocked my graf requirements
I can fill senior year with AP Sciences
Over the summer?
Ye
Yes but like 😭
I'm on that Ivy League grind
Same here yk 😭
Ok yeah i suppose that does make sense but don't die 😭
Nah I'm ready to kick some butt
Wut u want to major?
What kinda ECs ru doing btw 🤔
Cus many ECs makes me concerned
Like u should be focusing on 3-4 at a time
🤔
It's usually low impact stuff that takes a lot of brute hours
Bio
Extracurriculars:
Class President
SGA Member at Large and Funds Director
Chem Team
Academic Team
Marching Band
Indoor Percussion
National Honor Society
All County Band
National Honor Society
Volunteer at Farmers Market
Yeah tons of low impact stuff
Ye
Imma do something w/ astrophysics over the summer
Well
Most of these ECs just show traits
You should not be doing low impact ECs, those are just there to fill out your app
But none show my passion
Joining and even leading clubs don't show passion
Exactly
Make passion projects and do competitions in all this stuff
So I'm trying to do something Independently related to astrophysics
Yeah, so downsize the other stuff and focus on that
u live in the countryside?
That's way more important for the ivy grind
Sorta
Nebraski?
Maryland
ah
Isn't Maryland the capital 🤔
baltimore is
No annapolis
rip my geo
Baltimore is a state?
And I took that personally
Yed
Yes
But the state capital is Annapolid
Annapolis
Oh
Yeah that's also a passion project
Post an episode once a week
Talk about news in the field of astrophysics
Maybe Elon Musk flew to mars
neil de grasse tyson type ah
someone ik got into upenn doing that
too bad
who cares bro let him be
😭
atp everything has been taken
No lmao I ended up helping him

Why not just do the ec’s that you actually like
Who is telling you to not
💀
Well if you don't wanna spend your time doing social good instead of social media, idk what to say to you
💀
I think what he means to say is that at the end of the day, we also have to live our own lives instead of hyper-fixating and curating every single action to suit to "what the ivies want".
I don't think it is worth going to an ivy if you obsess and slave for them and spend your entire childhood trying to please them.
I don't think anyone's trying to hyper fixate or curate every single action here 🤔
Beside you ig
If ur gonna do ECs, do them well

Me?
No one's tryna force you to only do stuff that's best for ivies
what are your ec you got me curious
A non profit I'm working on,
prepping for IBO and my country's qualifiers,
working on research,
debate competitions including preparing for my country's debate qualifiers
Will work on MUNs and CS passion projects and also going to do my country's IOI qualifier cus it isn't that competitive, but this isn't stuff I've started or made progress on yet
If you don't enjoy leading a nonprofit or doing research don't do it, but if u don't enjoy the nonprofit, do you even enjoy the clubs or volunteering I tell people to not do?
Sure, different skills are involved, but still a more efficient way to be unique and have impact
true but thats taking shortcuts
If you enjoy the clubs or volunteering then maybe, but again time isn't infinite
It's not a shortcut it's optimisation
Shortcuts like this are everywhere in life
alr bro you do you
keep on the yapping then I respect the effort
lemme know what you got on the sat when you take it
Talk to me when the June 1 sat scores release
ight lemme know then gl on the exam
👍
is APcsA hard?
So how many APs should I take in 10th grade, I didn’t take any in my freshman year but my school only offers six classes a year so I have problem fitting classes in my schedule
1-3
Uhmm I’m planned to take AP world history next year
Should I take MORE
But still I don’t have enough space in my schedule
is AP world worth it?
trake it if u want to
Whats AP?
advance placement
but tbh it really isn’t all that “advanced placement”
Is it only american
yeah
its like a college class
if you pass the exam you can get the credit and not have to take the class in college?
yes, but they are very beginner courses
so would i be able to learn cs from a cs website and not take the actual course would I be able to get a 5 on the test?
Cause I wanna learn cs, but i'm taking a lot of APs, so If i just learn cs on my own can I still take the AP exam and do good?
It depends. The APCSA Exam covers your knowledge of Arrays, Boolean Expressions, and most importantly, Iterations, more deeper than regular CS classes. I would say that if you know them pretty well, you might get a 5.
harvard puts their cs courses online
for free on yt
so do what u want with that information
Is it also on coursera?
gotcha thanks
Should I take electrical engineering if I’m pursuing a CS major? I’ve already taken Engineer I and II, but as the classes become more specialized, I’m not sure if I should continue this engineering pathway
yo i am watching this rn
Ive been thinking abt doing psychology but dont know where to start, google isnt being useful so im here now, which job would be the best to get that has high pay and doesn’t take like 10 years to be able to work? What classes should I take?
I was told it might take ten years to pursue a career in psychology so it scared me a bit lmao
It does for most feasible careers, you need a doctorate and then a few years for experience
hi, i have a dillema
i need fine arts for UC colleges and i saw that the AP Music Theory test w/ a score of 3+ satisfies the requirement. My schedule next year consists of the courses of AP CS A + French IV as my electives. Since I can't realy sub any of these out, I wanted to self study ap music theory. for context, i have about 6-7 yrs of experierence playing the piano, but not realy the best exposure to music theory and my knowledge is limited to like circle of fifth level stuff
as another option, i can take advanced orchestra, but that would force me to take french iv later and take a gap year of french, and it reduces my aps. also, since i am only taking it for one year in school and then dropping it, it looks kinda bad.
what do i do??
Is personal fitness helpful? Does it show my continue interest in track as I have been during it for 3 yrs. ?
if i want to be a data scientist should i major in cs or just data science? i'm going to do a masters in data science after but not sure which bs would be better,
both
gg
y both
alr
do u know if it's possible to double major and still graduate in under 4 years?
if i do good on all my ap tests
some colleges wont accept all ur aps for certain majors
since they still req u to take their courses
if ykwim
ok
Thye aps are very beginner courses
so
Prob not
idk
you can probably get out of freshman year classes with ap classes
so skip a straight year ?
yea
depending on what colleges you wanna go to look at the required classes for your major
is mechanical engineering a good degree to pursue?
Depends on ur definition of "good"
Also is if that's something u want to pursue or have a passion
is the coursework hard and will i be able to get a relatively good paying job with it?
im kinda interested in it but i dont know much about it
coursework will actually murder you unless you’re a genius at math and enjoy puzzles, you can get like a six figure salary right out of college if you play your cards right
my sister, whos in eng, says that a lot of ppl are dumb but as long as you work hard and have a good work ethic + good study habits and youre chilling
alright thanks, good to know
first year is the year theyre trying to kick you out so just keep motivated and youre chilling- second year onwards they calm down a bit, a bit more helpful
yeah I mean the weed out courses got that name for a reason lol
my sister struggled most with calc and her coding class in first year
just get really good at math
mechanical engineering is definitely a good major if your willing to put in the work 👍
Whats the best ivy league if ur pursuing history as a majjor?
Any that you can get into? 😭
Yes I have a GPA of weighted 4.8
... And ECs?
If you have like 4 IMO gold medals then you might get a pick of the bunch ig 🤔
I hv 5
Yeah no, there hasn't even been the same person on the US's team for 5 years straight
JK
No but seriously
I won gold medal at 3 badminton conferences, won four spelling bees a
What level of badminton conference
What level spelling bees
Local level?
International level?
2 locals and 1 international when I was younger
If it was before hs it doesn't matter yk🤔
Colleges don't want applicants who peaked in ms
Ms?
Middle school 💀
Oh
anyways what is the best choice fr an ivy if u want to major in history
Depends on your personal priorities seriously 😭
What's better CSE or CSE with specialization if I don't have any idea of the subjects
What is that 🤔
Computer Science and Engineering
Then get an idea of the subjects? 🤔
I mean shall I explore complete CSE or focus on a certain topic (like AI, Cybersecurity, etc.)
Specialising would generally be better
But if you don't know what u wanna specialise in
Figure it out
Ok
Does anybody here take AP Chinese Culture and Language here
Wondering if it’s a rigorous course overall, I’m mostly fluent in Mandarin but unsure tbh
my friend has ap chinese and hes dying even tho hes fluent
ngl for him, its jus really annoying
Guys do y'all have suggestions for Universities in the US with good business programs??
Which Is easier: english 9 honors or English 10 honors
😭 what
We can't know how it is at ur school
Ok??? It's based off of people's experiences
Yeah ask someone who took it at your school for the best advice, classes vary a ton between schools
yo im in 9th grade nd i wana take engineering for firearms what do i do
hey i have a question
yea
So
I want to study in oxford
But liek
like
Im from belgium
And we ahve a diffrent school system
so idk what i can do
yea i cant help u
to get a higher chance of getting accepted
im nither from belgium nor america
O
Ok
O
Im in 8th grade
Should i start preparing
or do i still have enough time
Alr true. Did you take 10th grade English honors? Just curious
No cus I'm not American
Most likely 10th grade but you can also learn by asking your upperclassman and seeing the rigor each teacher provides
It’s based on your school 🤦♂️
Bro if english is your fist langugen just take english 10 honors, even if it isnt... ela is easy
ggs
shakespearian literature comes easier for some than for others
simply because you can speak the language doesnt mean you can necessarily analyze it well
Sure, i know this becuase of WHAP
what classes should u take freshman year of hs (like in general)
If you’re trying to get into a good college, take honors level classes
Is this good courses for 10th
If you’re really ambitious, take an ap or two
How many periods do you have 💀
9, Ap music theory is 0 period
well, probably honors eng and a honors science
personally my school doesn’t offer any aps for freshman’s but your school may
Everything honors/advanced, Alg 2 or higher, at least 1 ap class
guys ap calc or ap stat
depends, what do you want to do in college?
cant, already planning on taking ap precalc's test (school dont offer ap preaclc)
both
ap precalc is stupid imo
but
i can brag and say i took 5 aps in 10th
and what you have literally every helper role
what grade did you take calc
right now, in 10th
bc or ab
nice
thats a good pace
i wanted to do bc in 10th but i aint spedning 2500 for precalc
I probably could've taken it in 8th if I knew I could skip classes before 6th grade
wdym 2500?
2500 buckss
how
summer school
ah
and i cant self study sschool wont let me
I self-studied algebra 2
alg 2 is ez
fr
Calc is easy
tbh during quarantine i couldve learned prealg
fr
Fr
took alg 1 + geo in 6th
7th alg 2
precalc over summer
8th calc bc
i wouldve been built different and broke at the same time
but hey calc bc in 11th is fine ig
Fr ur actually funny git
I could've probably tested out of algebra 1 and taken geo in 6th
if I knew I could
i mean at my school
Yes
only like 5 kids per grade take alg 2 in 9th
What grade are you guys in
9th
10th
and only 1 kid in the history of my school ever did calc in 10th
why do people here like lying abt age
it's against server rules
I'm the second person I know of
and ur in calc?!?
in my school
I was just trolling
I could've probably tested out of algebra 1 and taken geo in 6th
then tested out of algebra 2 and taken precalc in 7th
and then calc bc in 8th
but
I didn't know I could do that
Nah my parents taught me in math class
if I knew I could then I definitely would've
Same
hello
I did this! It was mostly fine ig?
WHAAT?!!
What r u doing now then?
I mean at some point you run out of math classes to take
nothing lmfao i’m in ib so i’m doing math aa hl bc they don’t care i’ve done it before
and i do math olympiads
I wanna do math Olympiads but I feel like my school is to slow and for the individual competitions I’m too far behind in math compared to other students
Taking calc in 11th is like really good for my schools standards but in the grand scheme of things it’s pretty average
i mean it’s never too late to try them!
Wdym
you can always start writing practice tests now
grind incredulously hard
and then write AMC or wtv
Yeah
Next year I’m retaking it again with more knowledge
Did you make nationals?
yes
IMO?
If u were you’d probably be a mod here
I need some advice would it be ok if I were to skip geometry class and do algebra 2 instead then go onto pre calculus??
@loud solar
@tender wyvern
Geometry is pretty heavy of a course to self study 😭
Oh
I am trying to learn for pre calculus and I have seen that most topics in pre calculus are from algebra 2 only little geometry is it still wise to do both
Or skip 1
Precalc should be what u test out of
When do Americans learn calculus
Can I take calc ab while taking AP physics c mechanics
this is the prerequisites for both ap physics c
You should have taken calculus or be taking calculus at the same time as this course
so yes, you can
unless your school does not allow it, you are allow to take ap physics c while taking ap calc ab
consult with your ap physics c teacher to see if you are allowed to
I would suggest ab calc before coz in unit one physics C electricity and magnetism, you will feel like everything is being thrown on u
he wants to take mechanics
not e&m
I took calc while taking both physics
u can always self study it
eh it's fine im taking bc next year anyway with the same teacher
she's such a great teacher that idm it lmao
i think she's gonna change her curriculum by doing unit 9 and 10 first before the remaining unit
thats great
mhm
umm i need some help
I am a rising sophomore
and i am debating between taking latin 3 and AP CSP
My school requires 2 years of language and i have it already
and latin is starting to get boring
so i wanted to take ap csp but i don’t think it’ll look good on colleges if i apply with 2 years of foreign language
i live in the usa
Take Latin because my teachers are saying that in most colleges, you need at least 3 or 4 years of foreign language to not be forced to take a foreign language in college
Do geometry at the same time as alg2 and don’t take a lunch period that’s what I’m doing rn
im due to take pre-cal next year? any warnings or ways i can prepare?
guys, should i major in cosmology
idk
Thank you
for some reason ap csp counts as a language class at my school so can’t i just put that as my 3rd year of language to colleges
I wouldn't do it because all colleges are different as they have their own standards. Like what to allow as foreign language credit. If your future college offers foreign language credit for that class then I'd pursue in ap csp
alr i’ll check rn the schools im shooting for or emory texas a and m uga so i’ll check and if they do im gonna make the switch
Alr sounds good 👍
junior year (gr 11 or 17 yo)
I need help, what should my story be? Im ukrainian (13) and I was born in america. My grandparents fleed war.
Ik im pretty young
to be thinking about this
That’s waaay early
My local community college offers Spanish courses that are will give me college credit but will not give me HS honors credit. Should I take this or go with AP Spanish? (I have the AP Spanish teacher right now for another Spanish class and she doesn’t teach anything/free A so I wouldn’t be taking the AP test but rather js the course for a GPA boost)
what shoulkd i do instead
Has anyone here taken ap psychology, ap art history, or ap US history before?
I’m in 9th grade, currently taking ap world history: modern, and I want to know if I’d be in over my head next year if I may have applied for all of these weeks ago..
Essentially, how stressful are these classes? I’m terrified for 10th grade 🙏
i know someone who took ap art history, its a lot of memorizing for the test n content could be boring for the normal person. ap psych has one of the easiest ap tests cuz its like common sense kind of with a few q's and class wise memorization again but like i said, its one of the easiest aps.
I might consider picking up a different, non-ap class to replace art history at that point then
Part of me wants to do it though, but only because it would replace the art credit I need for high school and also count as credits towards college
I just have 0 knowledge of how grueling it might be before doing it is the thing
i took apush
if you like us history you will like this class
make sure you like history or else the workload of the class will just be painful instead of rewarding
Thank you! I will be taking it next year anyways because I’m in a school program that makes it mandatory lol
The only one I’m off about is art history, I just heard it was a lot of memorization and I don’t know if I can pile that up on ap psychology and apush
Okay, tomorrow I’ll go and try to change ap art history for another class
Should I actually take AP Spanish or just take Spanish 1-4 to get my 4 years of foreign language credits done?
Why wouldn't you take AP Spanish
It's an easy class too
anyone that has taken ap spanish literature, how is it?
I've looked at several common data sets of t10/ivy league universities. Most of their students had 3-4 credits of foreign language. In my school we are required to take Spanish 4 before taking AP Spanish. So my question is if I should take the 5th foreign language credit of AP Spanish or spend my time elsewhere?
Hi, my friends school offered a thing where you can Spanish Honors 1 in 8th grade, (so in 9th she takes spansih 2) for graduation at hs all she need is one year of forgein language should she still take spansih 3 and 4 and ap ?
You should always build up your ecs as early as possible
Coursework during junior year is very burdensome
I can't really help you on that; it depends on your own mental fortitude
If it was me, I would take those 2 AP classes and work on extracurriculars too
If there is ONE advice I'd give you, it would be to not take AP classes simply for the SAKE of taking them
For example, I would not take AP Psychology because it offers no actual benefit for the career that I am pursuing and instead use the alotted time to focus on more important matter
No problem
Take principles your sophomore year then
It is a super easy class (for me atleast)
yeah it's easy
Anyone with coding experience can probably pass the exam without even studying
Bruh its so easy i do nothing in the class and have a good grade
Hi guys, should I take ap literature for senior year or do a dual enrollment class or honors class instead? Because some people are saying the class is hard, but I think that depends on the teacher, whom I haven’t met yet.
And for electives I have one extra elective I can choose but it’s at weight training right now and I don’t know what elective to choose
I got ap environmental for one elective but I have an extra elective I can choose of my own
For English*
If the teacher is ultimately going to force you to have a C and get a 1 on the exam, then take alternatives
Ok so basically I should meet the teacher and talk with them then
I mean sure?
A bad teacher will give you bad advice
Just sayin
Obviously but I can’t assume that if I haven’t even met or know who the teacher that teaches it is
Are you able to help me with electives
Electives are usually what the student wants lol
They are not "core" classes
I was thinking of ap art but my counselor said it most likely won’t be possible since I needa do visual arts
Ik
But one of my electives is ap environmental which I’m fine with
So you want to take a hard class?
Welll
Or just take something you are interested in?
I wanted to take an elective that will help me in my major
Then do exactly that
Yes that’s why I was planning on doing ap art
To help with my major in graphics design or web development
It seems like visual arts is your best choice then
But my counselor said I need to do a course prior to it
But that won’t stand out in college applications
Or are there other related options?
It’s a regular class
There’s ap art history but that is slightly diff I think
It analyzes the history of art
Pretty sure
Yeah that sounds like a social studies class
And I most likely will need to do a course prior to that as well, a “pre requisite”
yeah.
so I’m doing ap gov, env, and micro econ next year and pre calc/DC digital art and design III
and I’m left with switching an elective of weight training possibly for something better and left with deciding for ap lit or de comp or English IV H
I remember my counselor mentioning that there isn’t a deadline for the course selection; rather that it would be hard to switch out during the fall
Which is in August I think
Or like after 2/3 weeks of August
what are some good dual enrollment classes to take during sophomore/junior year? any advice?
Wait what's this about English classes?
Therefore, I might have extra time possibly during summer to stay in contact and make possible adjustments
English isn’t an elective it’s the required one
Weight training is an elective tho
But I’m saying I might switch the elective weight training and ap lit class that’s required
I do not have experience with the major you are pursuing, so take my advice with a grain of salt:
I would just take visual arts. Even though it is not exactly a rigorous AP art class, it still helps you more directly compared to something like AP Art History
What would you switch AP Lit to?
There is dual enrollment comp lit and lang I think
But lang might not be possible since it is more of an 11th grade course is what I found out from someone which could possibly be false
Then there is English IV honors
The rest after that is trash since it’s regular English or ELD
Ah but I think that’s pointless since I’m taking digital design III for my academy of ADC
I would take AP Lit since you previously mentioned standing out in college admissions
Well yes but I want to keep a balance at the same time as well
Meaning that I don’t want to overwhelm myself
So this class has probably already taught you the contents of visual arts?
It has taught me how to use photoshop and illustrator
That is a choice for you to decide
I’m not sure what visual arts teaches
Yea and that’s why I wanted to know WHO teaches it so maybe it might be possible
Cuz I’m doing ap lang rn and it’s not too bad however I might do poorly on the exam but as far as my grade in the class goes it’s pretty good
And ap lang and lit are similar but idk if people@are spreading rumors about ap lit being harder than lang
I’ll talk to my counselor about English ig since that’s the best way to decide
Yes consult with the teacher. If the class serves no value to you, then I guess the best choice is AP Art History? (I personally would just take an easier elective)
pre med sorry didnt realize someone responded 😭🙏
What? My English class isn’t an elective
It’s a required class
but I can choose between dual enrollment and ap from the English section
Ap art history is an elective
I was talking about electives
My electives are 2 that I can take only and rn it’s sitting at weight training III/IV and environmental science
Oh mb I musunderstoo
d*
if you can take both then take both, otherwise it's kind of up to you, since neither is really required in the medical field, though I'd say stats might be more useful as it can help you learn to interpret data
though if there are any colleges you're looking at, see if they require either
I’m considering switching weight training possibly
AP Lit has a way higher pass rate I believe, but a significant percentage of the students do not recommend the class
77%
Hmmm
Yeah right here
but why do students not recommend it though?
So I think AP Lit is indeed harder, but the students who take do well because they actually want to challenge themselves
Because of its sheer difficulty
Oh yeha that was a dumb question
im considering taking one since i donr have enough room in my schedule but stat is online and calc we have a teacher for it
Would Einstein recommend his way of life to the general population? Probably not (I sure hope he didn't)
Ok I might consider it but before I do I have to meet the teacher first and talk with my counselor about it
okay, if you think you personally can handle it then take both
Should I ask my ap lang teacher who teaches ap lit or is that a bit weird
I don't see how that would be weird
you could ask other students
I don’t know anyone who’s taking it
do you have any senior friends
No
oh
Compare the opinions of both parties
Well yes but like they don’t take it I’m petty sure
I don’t have any classes with them
def not too much math for me 😭
Nah there like seniors that take more regular classes I think
Bro that’s weird though
Like just walking up to a random senior and asking that would be akward
I guess weirdness is a subjective perspective
what does that mean? Like subjective perspective
Well should I ask my ap lang teacher who teaches it then if that might be hard to do
That might also be weird but maybe not as much?
What is weird can be normal for me, and vice versa
ap lang isnt bad at all
Ok
im taking it rn
omg are u ready for the exam
But just ask them for their opinions
I’m so bad with MCQs bro 😭
Lol
bro same but the synthesis essay i feel like ill do the best on
BRO SAME
Synthesis feels the easiest for me as well
Rhetorical analysis is the hardest in my opinion
Argument is in the middle of those two
yeaa i so agree
Like if I was considering between a very hard class taught by a trash teacher or an easy class taught by a really good teacher, I would go ask the students for their opinions
Do you wanna study together then
synthesis is easy since we have all the info
It might be a good idea
i mean
loll if u want 😭
how do we study for ap lang though
Yeah sure but I’ll start after 2 days since my apush exam is coming on may 10
Hmmm
oh apush WAS BAD
kidding it was okay
MCQs were the hardest imo
yeaa cs its english 😭
I mean cuz like uts kind of boring timing urself alone
ikk it rly is 😭
My timing is horrible
Time management goes brr
So yeah that’s something we could practice
MCQs are my enemy
no cs i take forever writing its so bad
And the frqs might be was well
Same but I take the most time during MCQs
idk but i rly like writing the synthesis essay 😭🙏
oh yeaa i do too cs im kinda a slow reader
yess only one though
YEA
Oh ok good me to
Mcq?
8am EST time
Yup
yea only one MCQ test
What did you get? I was wondering since I wanted some tips on what you did
idk i was in the dark green zone though
Oh that’s good
i took it pretty long ago 😭
we could take one together
BRO
No cuz tell me why I got a 4/18 on one of the progress checks
are u doing it digital or on paper
🧍🏻♀️
Digital
OKOK good samee
I have 6 days
Or I will get that score again on the real thing
ima practice over the weekend 😭
Same
nahh i feel like you’ll do better fs
I did 3 progress checks and got 4/18 7/18 and 2/6
I think I’m cooked
Or I’m missing something or doing something wrong
i think u might be cooked 😭
how long do u take doing them
What did you do to get dark green
Well it was diff for each but mostly 1 min with a few being 2/3 min
re-read the passages like 10 times 😭
Bro doesn’t that take super long tho
okay more like 2 or 3 idk its bad though i take a long time
Oh ok
yeaaa
I feel like annotating would help
but its digital
But the problem is when I go to the next page digitally the annotations disappear
itll be alot harder to annotate
Yeah exactly
yeaaa
im so scared for the exam
So I think paper is good for that then
To take notes instead of quotes in the passage
Like repeating ideas
paper is only good for MCQs imo
YEAA ik what u mean
Yeah so do you want to work on it during Saturday or Sunday
Ima go to sleep I’m going to prepare for apush first which is in 3/2 days
2 days actually
yesss
yeah same i needa sleep
good luck though on ur apush exam
okokk
Thanks I think as long as I memorize vocab I should be good for the most part
u should make a timeline
