Cool
bro like you can’t even have any free time in US legit everything u gotta do must be for the school if your tryna get to a good school
is any one apply to MIT outside the US
is precalc honors hard
I mean idk how good u are at math
but from many people Ive heard that AP is easier the normal/honors
but just dpends on the teacher ig
the opposite u mean?
i was looking at ETH zurich for aerospace is there any requirements for other languages
I chose AP Lit for my senior year but I haven’t taken AP Lang. Did I make the right choice?
No
reading is NOT fun
is ap lit still fun if you havent taken any honors english classes
im decent at reading, analyzing, and writing, but i would feel out of place considering everyone else in the class has taken honors english
Yes
I didnt take any
but idk
U might lose interest later on
actually i take that back, i like non fiction reading and historical reading. Reading Class? Nah
What kind of HW do u get
Ik every school is different but what should I expect
I self studied it
when should i stop spanish or should i go all the way to AP Spanish
fr
we dont hv as hard academics
but we have ~extracurriculars~
😭
usually colleges like to see u finish a series of whatever language ur taking
u should at least go to Spansih 2
.
Should I do it AP or just honors?
I'm an incoming freshman ready to apply myself for high placements and rankings. Any suggestions?
Note:
-The English class above is the only one offered. No APs or Honors courses
-World History is usually not required for freshmen, but it is a standard for AVID members
- two electives are offered, one needing to be AVID for me
-AP Art History is offered, but music is my passion
-I am also doing track and field, just isn't currently shown above
Questions:
Should I go for AP Art History to boost my transcript and academic standing, or should I stick with my passion for music?
Please give any advice!!
Alright. Do colleges like to see music all 4 years or is it acceptable to not in order to do aps and language?
What?
will that still be ok if my gpa is less? isnt it better to have above a 4.0 for top schools
put in some aps
👍
should i take AP World History or AP Biology in 9th grade? (i want to go to MIT idk if that helps)
Colleges don’t ask for a AP exam scores
Would be useful
if your aiming for top t1 schools
Sure if you’re aiming for like community college doesn’t matter

What do u want to be?
ehhh personally i like holistic admissions more
and thats bc i acc like my few ecs
and ive given up on tryin to go to an ivy so im less motivated to participate in the rat race like grind
but hey if u like academics more thats good 4 u
At the end of the day, It doesn’t really matter as long as your happy; idrc about ivies either. But i still just try and do good
They're fine if u take no music at all
That's an elective
Does anyone have experience with online ap classes? Apparently it's the same curriculum everywhere?
does anyone know if this is a good tutoring website for AMC?
https://amcacademy.ca/
You can basically do private tutoring style classes and then give an AP exam independently if you're not doing them with your school, but there's barely any point to that beside the college credit
So I'm taking it kinda with my school but it's a different curriculum. It's standardized throughout the district I think. It's completely asynchronous except you take the test in person.
The benefit is that I can avoid annoying teachers which decrease my course load by a lot
You can't have a different curriculum if it's an AP tho 😭
And wdym asynchronous 😭
How can a class be asynchronous
Cuz like teachers can teacher whatever they want really. For example, one teacher I had finished the entire ap curriculum in one semester and moved onto random stuff
Ofc
Does it go on your transcript
Then there's no reason not to
I just wanna know if it's easier lol
AP exams are only a baseline, teachers are supposed to make up their own course on that basis, the core stuff they teach is the only thing that stays the same, but still that's what the main curriculum is
Cuz I thought it it's standard through the district it can't be hard
Yeah I get that but some teachers are very difficult and make it almost impossible to get an A
Ofc ofc
That's why you always ask someone who took the ap with the teacher before taking it urself
Yeah
If the teacher teaches an ap badly like they have a rigorous/ annoying course for it then yeah you probably should take that option
Ok thanks guess I'll find out the difficulty in two months lol
Should I continue with honors math junior year or go into regular? How much would it impact my chances of getting into a prestigious school?
For context I'm a sophomore and math is my worst class. I got a B in honors geometry first semester of freshman year and will likely get a B this semester of algebra 2. Other than these 2 instances I've gotten straight As taking honors and AP courses. I also am not planning on going into math at all and I'm a humanities person hoping to major in political science
And according to calculations I've made my weighted gpa would only go down about .3% even if I got A's next year
And my school limits the amount of AP classes you can take so I'd have to choose between science and math for my ap classes senior year anyway
Any advice?
major dependent
How hard are these APs (I've never taken an AP before, I'm a freshman right now and these are the ones I'm taking for sophomore)
AP physics 1
AP calc BC
APUSH 1
For any europeans how do APs translate to A levels?
We have a 1-5 grading system
So a 5 is your 6-9 or 7-9 idk
or prob just 8-9
We have 1-9 for gcses yeah
ye
Alr fairs
U can manage physics 1 coz its really not that complicated but u will have a hard time for sure
Plus I want to be a physics major so I've already read some of the material just by reading feyman lectures so I'm going in prepared,
alr if u say so
it really depends on your teacher, ive taken all three, none of the concepts are hard but i would ask people from your school that took it before.
Alright
its pretty easy to get a 5 on ap exam for calc bc and physics but apush ive had a hard time with
Hey guys, I plan to take some classes at a local college during the summer. Do colleges look at those classes' gpa? Will they go on my high school transcript
pretty sure they get added to your college transcript
I'm still in high school tho
yea but its a college class
ye np
Ya already planning on comparative Gov (counselor recommended it to me), US gov, AP lit, and then either Bio APES, or Calc
im taking an astronomy course for dual enrollment over the summer but idk which one to take ASTR 1000 or ASTR 1010
i heard 1010 is more labs with more credit
which one should i take?
take ap stats
over apes or bio
if ur doing political science
dual enrollment poli sci if u can
and take ap micro or macro
those are all for ur major
Sadly I can't do that many so I gotta choose
While also trying to maintain subjects per year
Only thing about stats is I'd probs not get to do calculus
do calc and stats combined
or do calc in school then do a stats course online/self study
pretty sure pol sci does a lot of statistical stuff
not sure
Ooh that's a good idea
Don't think I'd do ap calc tho
How will that impact my chances at prestigious schools?
ivy-wise
they want at least calc
top 30-40 its def not needed but strongly recommended
20s similar to 10s
Does it have to be ap is my question?
Ur getting into MIT bro
Its a good plan
Thank you so much guys
congrats bro
Well I'm not in yet don't start congratulating me 😭
haha lol
I just posted my ec's in #extracurriculars as well
but ur course plan is mind blowing
Thank you
your welcome
My only problem rn is my AP World exam this year
I've been slacking very badly in AP World due to burnout
And I genuinely do not think i will pass
Oh and let me actually add summer classes
if your burned out in ap world u cant handle the rest my guy 😭
gotta seriously check your tolerance level of handling classes
I'm not burned out in AP World specifically
I'm burned out for personal reasons
In my life
School isn't a huge factor in it tbh
okay so then factor in ur life
if your personal reasons already affect a "difficult" class then what abt the rest of ur years
junior + senior year is hell on top of those classes lol
I understand and all I'm saying is that I am putting measures in place to prevent and handle my life with my other classes
Been going through some serious mental health shit and
I think that I'm finally almost done with that
I trust myself and am confident in myself to handle my junior and senior years
ok well u do u good luck 💪
Anyway let me post with summer plans and what I did in middle school
If anything I'll drop AP Lit my senior year and take another year of Guitar instead of AP Comp Sci A
But currently they are in my plan
Either way my life is beginning to be in order
ap world at least in my school is the hardest history class
apush is significantly easier
teacher diff lol
But ap wise apush is still harder
no matter what school
So then should I do AP science or AP calc? And should I do honors precalc and risk getting lower grades than regular only risking .2% less on my weighted gpa
Unis weight honors lower than APs
Like I'm p sure the consensus is 4.5 for honors and 5.0 for APs, tho it depends per uni a bit ofc
Ik honors precalc is next year, AP would be senior year (I like to plan ahead)
Honestly if I stick with honors next year my main worry is my unweighted GPA
Oh are you talking about the difference between taking honors precalc and getting a B vs a non weighted class?
How much harder is honors precalc than the non honors version at your school 🤔
All I can say is I will for sure get an A in regular and idk about honors
Like they give you practice tests in regular that's literally a copy of the test
💀
And trig isn't a prerequisite but it is for honors
Ya wish they had a prehonors for real lol
Wdym trig isn't a prerequisite 😭
How can you skip trig
Y'all don't have AP precalc right 🤔
For regular it's not, at least not as a separate course
Is it not a part of algebra 2 for yall
For honors it is, I'm doing trig rn
We finished algebra earlier this year and have 2 straight units of trig
The main issue is that I'm struggling in honors algebra 2 rn and I don't want my gpa to suffer
The other problem is that my school doesn't offer honors for upper class men
So I can't have the honors French, science, and English I have now
And we are limited on how many AP classes we can take
Confidence is important, if u take regular precalc and get an A you might feel better even if ur weighted gpa is lower
I calculated it and it's only a .03 difference in weighted gpa taking honors and getting an A vs regular and getting an A
.03% or just .03?
Like 4.44 vs 4.41
As I said, I'm not great with math lol
My main worry is how it looks to colleges loosing all my honors classes next year that I'm currently in
There's no honors physics, no honors French, and I'm taking AP English so I can't take honors English
So not a percent
Yes sorry about that
You're taking AP English why ru sad that you can't take the honors version 😭
Less weighted courses lol
Rn I have 2 ap courses, 4 honors, and 1 regular
Next year I'll have 3 ap courses and 4 regular
That can't exactly be helped if ur school doesn't offer anything else
Or 3 ap courses, 1 honors, and 3 regular depending on what I do for math
Coursework matters less than ECs and essays for top unis to begin with
Rlly
If you've already got that many APs and honors courses and that weighted gpa it's fine
Definitely
Doing any more APs or honors won't get u in, ECs are more important
For T20s at least
Speech and debate, mock trial, National moot court, and dance let's go
🤔
At least 2 of those sound like clubs
What kinda uni do u wanna go to
We go to comps/tournaments if that helps
Yes it does
What level have u done
I was 2 places away from qualifying for states in impromptu speech
Also rlly close for parliamentary debate
And I'm applying for leadership, so we shall see how that goes
If you're trying to have the best chances for T20s, impact matters, and you can get it from competitions and awards through that, clubs and leadership in those are very cliche at this point
Tbf idk wut that is but sounds good, is it like national or state level or smth
National I think
And this was my first year doing moot court but we could potentially get to nationals next year
Mock trial has gotten me a lot of connections, how I met the person who coached me for moot court
Nice
My spike is fairly clear which I think is a strength right?
Which is why I'm so confused on what to do about math
public speaking?
I wanna be lawyer
Mm yeah
Oh I also founded the history bowl at my school
Hence mock trial and moot court
Fun fact I'm the only person at my school who does moot court
My school won’t let me skip pre calc and take ap calc what should i do
it’s pissing me off bc I’m good at math and I like it and they don’t wanna let me go ahead
I watched a yt video about AP pre calc practice questions and got like 70-80% of them right
it would be a waste of time for me to spend a whole year in that class
womp womp just take it bruh
u can talk to administration or smthn and have them give u an exam that assess ur understanding on precalc ig
thats what I did to go from geometry to pre calc
it depends on the school ngl
but ye
Is it a good idea to take AP Science classes (other than APES) if I dont plan on going into Medical (Business & Economics)
waste of time ig unless ur aiming on improving certain skills with certain aps
they never care
Guys will there be ap human anatomy and physiology next yr
Anyone know
Heard rumors
how do these sound for junior subjects? only getting 6 choices, my school doesnt have many advanced options
english (doing senior english, my school has a program for it so i can skip a year and have free periods in senior)
math methods (aka, my schools version of AP math)
physics (no AP choice on offer)
law (no AP choice on offer)
economics (no AP choice on offer)
psychology (no AP choice on offer)
looks good. i am curious, what is your major? @ me.
and waste another year being on my phone all day bc the shit is too easy?
im in high school still! i dont quite know whag major i want to go into yet, but i would like to go into data analytics, or something math-science related. :)
Should I major in mathematics as a premed
I love math but I kinda suck at it
I had a b last quarter in precalc
I’m a sophomore in high school btw
I’m most likely gonna get it up to an A this quarter it’s an a rn
I really love math but the difficulty is what I’m worried about should I still do it
I’m a sophomore in precalc too and I’ve also been trying to choose between math or premed.
If you really like math I don’t think you should worry too much about the difficulty unless you’re struggling really badly. If your school has a math team or club you should join it if you haven’t yet bc it’s a good way to explore more unique math topics.
Wait that just gave me an idea lol ima start one
Cause I’m pretty sure there’s none in my school
Nice! If you need any advice on how to run it or what to do, you can dm me, I’m the president/captain of my school’s math team 👍
Alright thank you
No
Hey I'm a 1st year architecture student
I said someone help the other guy, please read it properly before jumping to conclusions 😶🌫️
Weighted gpa
So yes
But you should take the classes ur interested in anyway 🤔
And the science APs can be hard ofc
would taking ap chemistry be a good idea in high school if planning to go into electrical engineering in college? It seems useful in the physics aspect, but has a lot of course work
if ur interested in it and the teacher is good (ask someone who took it), even if it doesnt relate to your major u should take it, imo at least
in my high school, to take it requires two periods, which makes me hesitant
You can self study it then if u want
wdym?
ik it has a lot of content and its lab based but still
Take it outside of school
its just giving the ap exam
Who said that?
I didnt say that its the same as taking the course lol
you're giving it as an alternative
or anywhere near it
I suggested a possibility that he could choose from if hes hesitant abt the two periods
thanks for your help
"womp womp"
Is pre calc worth skipping over the summer
no
not unless you know that you are very smart and there are good options
nah
i’m wondering this also
if they let you yeah
what would u be able to take if u skipped precalc
like if ur a sophomore and u skip precalc ur gonna take ab or bc right so would u be able to take like a college level course senior year or what
u would take like AP stats or multivariable calc
It’s bc if i can skip precalc in the summer between sophomore and junior year i would be able to take ap stats or multi var calc
Yeah
what r u majoring in
Stem related
i was only asking bcs it depends on the school
I can go straight into calc bc without ab
yeah for us our school requires ab before bc 💀
its so dumb
But if i don’t skip pre calc i need to take calc bc in senior year
then yeah go for it
np
Me trying to react with🙏 but I don’t have reaction perms
guys can u rate my junior year course list: APUSH, Honors English, Math analysis, AP Physics 1, AP CSA, AP Astronomy, and robotics
AP Astronomy ?
Never have heard of that
would be cool though
oh mb its like a course they teach in our school for the local university
I would assume that if he is taking it, he has some background knowledge on it.
from*
What's in Math Analysis?
precalc
Alright.
I think it's pretty good. You might have to lock in with APUSH or AP Physics.
But, it works for a junior course selection.
k
yeah im good at history but idk abt physics
im decent at math
hiii
Guys I’m going for Ivy League schools what should be my four year layout of courses
Depends on school ofc
The most rigorous course you can find and excel at, and still be related to your major.
should i take ap precalc or algebra 2 next year?
what does that mean? i keep n seeing people theese days using that
like mocking "awh shucks...who cares?"
boohoo
im thinking to major in psychobiology so what courses should I take?
Ap physc, bio, chem... any other health related science offered at your school
ohk thx @cinder gorge
thank you!!
Does anyone think a college level quantum computing class is worth taking junior year? it is kind of niche but I am into CS
if u want
if u think u can handle it
junior year is considered the most stressful year of hs tho
whats that
Well algebra 2 is before pre calc
So if u took algebra 2 do precalc
And if you didn’t do algebra 2 then to algebra II
What math u in rn
guys any tips for an incoming freshman taking 3 honors
Hiiii
guys should i take AP Bio or AP World History for my freshman year (im going into CS)
Bio
totally not biased
okay whatever you say
for real advice
ask someone who took it to see how the teacher is
ideally someone who took both
but even if someone just took one between those
cus some teachers teach APs really terribly and assign a lot of homework for no reason adn stuff
okay thx
For CS it doesn’t really matter
Try taking CSP or CS A if it’s available
If not, I guess you should choose what you think is best
I highly recommend going throughout the whole AP Physics track during high school for CS too
yeah, most cs majors have physics classes
and if u want credit, dont take csp
physics would be better
csp is comparable to apes in that its just there for a gpa boost
Could u take both?
Yeah
Just saying if you have an extra spot
should i take AP bio or honors physics
What do u wanna do when u grow up
lmfao do you have any idea what major you'd want to apply to college as? def would set up your class schedule to reflect your interests so that schools can see it over time. same with ECs
Med track
lol we cant just supply an entire four year plan
i’ll make you a 4 year plan
yeah i might need a little more context but i'm not a college counselor 💀 tldr; the classes you take in high school should relate to the major you're going to apply to college as. you're more likely to get in that way
i also wanna do med so i would be able to help you a little bit
but i need to know what courses your school offers
But I don’t know where to learn math theory
but definitely take ap bio & chem
the rest doesn’t matter but maybe take ap calc and stats if you can
and anatomy ofc
What order do I take math classes like trig algebra 2 and precalc and calculus
it goes alg 2, trig, pre calc, calc
Bc or ac
this is my 4 year plan; use it for ideas
it goes calc ab then calc bc
but most schools allow u to go to calc bc
bro what is math 3

Also how do I bring up my math act score to a 22 by sophomore year
I don’t know much about act
Practice
No bot commands here pls
aight, sorry
I took a diagnostic and got like 16 right but I only took half because if I guess on one I don’t know I’ll think I knew it later so idk
What 😭
I’m in 7th grade and taking a diagnostic there is like a 1/5 chance I get it right
If I don’t know it I don’t want to accidentally get it right
I don’t want to see I’ll get on an act
Luck is a factor on the real act too 💀
I want to see curriculum I don’t know that’ll be on act
Ik but I want to know it

The ACT has stuff until algebra 2, just like the sat
Bc I’m trying to get into l#the local math academy so I get a 2 year science degree
I’m taking 9th math
And I study daily
But I am so confused
An associates?
Yeah
There's no way 😭
Why tho 🤔
What
I’ll get taken to a university and stay in a dorm and finish my last 2 hs years there
But I need a 22 on the math
Taken 😭
I’m trying to get it end of 8th year
So I’m going to find out what I need to know
But it’s not easy bc I don’t even know how to learn it
And the book gives really crappy explanations
What is the benefit of joining national science honor society? Like what opportunities do I get, how valuable is it to colleges, etc
Honors societies are not great ECs and barely helps for anything in my experience
Some of them actually do
Have you ever heard of NSHSS
Or whatever tf it’s called
It’s apparently nearly $100
And it’s a complete scam
There’s also just so many of these honor societies out there
At this point colleges see them on like every persons application
It’s nothing special
It won’t make you stand out
And make a difference in your application in anyway
Not worth it
When I was in middle school we had NJHS, and basically there was only like very few times we “volunteered.” Literally I’m not even kidding we would bring in a box of food like three times in the year at max.
And that’s the only thing we did
Not worth it
Oh and we got a free blue t shirt
Yeah so worth it…
It’s ultimately a group of kids who do “volunteer work” but are apart of a united group
oh
However they hold you to have extracurriculars, good grades, and you have to go through an application process to get in.
Like just join Key Club if your that desperate
It’s literally that tbh
Usually the school will also hold an induction ceremony too
Wait, I got in to NHS for next year (year 11). Was it a bad choice?
The website is the most cringe thing too god damn they make it seem like you will make such a difference and a leader by being in NHS
I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily a bad choice
I guess just an extra thing to have
It’s a complete scam though

It doesn’t make a difference whatsoever
And no even though the website says you’ll make such a difference
Lmao
lmsooo, i j thought it was good to have on college apps
The issue is like every single person has it on their app
what diff between student and school leaders? thats like going from 2-3 😭
No idea 😭
I might have to drop it man no way imma be doin allat for nothing
Basically, the very most you’ll do in NHS is like volunteer work a couple times in the school year. The school also has to like hold you accountable for your grades. Like if your grades slip they are able to kick you out.
Back in NJHS so much of that shit happened
Also we had kids get kicked out for being like a minute late to a meeting
One kid was kicked from his officer position
And don’t even get me started on the officer shit
They are such a scam because the popular kid always gets the spots
Your honor society will have an election and shit
Omg really?? In NJHS for us, we barely did anything. We only had one meeting and that was it.
The couple times we did volunteer work in NJHS was basically everybody in the honor society brought in a box of food like a box of pasta or a can of soup and they donated it
This occurred twice
Then they held a meeting once a month for no reason and we did nothing
Oh and we got a blue t shirt with all our names on the back of it
We didn't do anything at all 😭
Like tf was the point of that
"womp womp"
All we got were fancy pins and a sheet of paper with our names on it
Frr
And they make you have good grades for what?
They make you fill out an application for what?
yall complaining way too much 😭
And the school I go to now, the NHS doesn't do anything at all. I think they're supposed to tutor people and do volunteer service but they don't do that
Frr
They make it sound super prestigious
EXACTLY
lmao nhs is getting their shit flamed rn
I remember going to these meetings before the application process and they were saying like how it’s such a rigorous activity and don’t do it if you aren’t up for a challenge
They would like try and scare us too
OMG THEY DID THAT TO US TOO
Like I remember being in 7th grade sitting in that auditorium chair scared fucking shitless
And now I’m like laughing at the honor society a few years later lol
Biggest scam of an activity
Same, I thought it was going to be so hard to get into and so hard to stay in the honor society
People got kicked out for a grade going below a B too
🤡
They didn't care for us 😭
Even if you were slightly late to a meeting they would kick you out
For us, the second you got inducted, you're in until you graduate from middle school
lucky for me i cant get into nhs since the gpa requirement is a 3.9
Wow, that is so harsh
Ours is 3.7
High ass GPA for a fucking activity you do shit in
weighted or unweighted
I don’t think I ever heard of a single thing my schools NHS did
i have a 2.9 weighted rn so i obviously cant get in lol
whoa
im only 1.0 away from being there though
I just says you have to have a simple GPA of 3.7 minimum
oh
It’s not worth joining tbh
yea nhs does less than student government
At my school, you can’t even apply until Junior year.
same
idk
More people entered the conversation that’s why
algebra 1 but i was gonna take algebra 2 in the summer if i do precalc
i dont think this topic is right for course selection
lmao
ur gonna skip geo?
well have u taken geometry
ah cool
ok
so u need alg 2 and trig if u want to do pre calc
My school combined geo and trig into one class
I feel like schools need to do that
my school combined precalc and trig
my school combined precalc andtrig
sameee
what state u live in if your okay with answering?
Tennessee
iowa
Ah I tried guessing lol
Would jumping from taking 1 AP class sophomore year to taking 3 ap’s junior year be too much - the workload, time commitment etc. The AP’s I’m considering are Seminar, Lang and Composition, Spanish Lang
oh they do the same in indiana
Do you really need all those?
Lang and Spanish Lang in the same year
💀
Yeah count your days with that
unless your trying to get higher gpa just use the ones youll need in your major
id only do spanish lang if the college your going to has a foriegn language requirement
Couldn’t they just take regular foreign language classes then?
lol Lang is required at my school and Spanish would be a logical progression for international relations major
Is there anyway you could do it separate years
ap classes are good for not having to take intro courses in college
Yeah ik but like taking 2 langs same year with seminar is asking for trouble
also depends on other classes your taking too
Nope - one is a requirement and there are no easier classes for Spanish - straight into AP from the level 4 I’m doing this year
10
Do you plan to take any other AP’s besides these 3 after junior year
Yeah
How many?
4 but I’m still thinking
There are a lot I want to do but ik that it can be hard and lots of factors play into my decision
I’m trying to see if there is a way you could take Spanish Lang senior year
And English lang Junior year
Actually it would probably be better to do it vice versa coming off of Spanish IV
Yeah that’s what I’m thinking bcs a year long break in a language is illogical. But I am required to take English Lang my junior year and Lit my senior year, so not much leeway with that
Besides those AP’s I wanted to take I’ll have Physics, US history, Precalc and journalism
Yea
Yeah you’re fucked 💀
I honestly don’t know how else to mend that because of the schools requirements
And only two years
Honestly toughest case I’ve dealt with in the server so far
My counselor says that I’ll be fine but if it were entirely up to her, I’d be taking only AP classes. So I don’t trust that lady💀
Looks like it
💀
Have you taken those classes?
Ah got it
Are APs hard at your school 🤔
It REALLY depends on a teacher
I have AP World rn and the teacher is so great, means I get to chill. But I’m not sure abt others
Yes and ur counselor knows the teachers
Maybe they're all chill
Hey yall i was wondering, whats the difference between AP Lang and Lit in terms of credit? Is it like Physics 1 and 2
That's a good comparison 🤔🤔
Lang is writing primarily, lit is focused on reading
Physics 1 and 2 are algebra based I believe
The teachers switch the classes they teach like every two years, so signing up for a class while only relying on a teacher is risky
I don't think that was the point
Huh? How does that work
so if i were to only take lang, i’d satisfy a english requirement?
If you score well enough
since im taking AP Sem next year
It depends on the college too
If your talking about opting out of freshman year college English
Sem gives college credit?
Take lang over lit always
Idk they become bored of teaching the same class ig. It’s not required, so some teach the same thing for 15 years and some rotate
its an ap so most likely but idk what requirement that satisfies
What’s your major bro
would that count as an english credit
me?
No, there's definitely more than a couple of APs that aren't that valuable college credit wise
Seminar probably doesn't give u an English cred
going for CS or perhaps game development if thats a thing in college
im just thinking of college requirements
@tropic spear
Why game dev?
i like the idea of coding and developing games
find it fun
i just dunno what classes would help correlate with that
They usually do but as a general elective. You can also get perks during your college app if you win capstone
Ah, so why do you think you need a degree to be an indie game dev 🤔
if cs requires a degree i’d think that game development is a branch of that
Yeah
CS doesn't, you only need a degree in certain job settings for promotions
Have you made a game 🤔
You could start an indie game dev studio right now
AAA game dev isn't game dev, and it isn't humane either
ive only used scratch to make games. I tried to get into unity but i got very lost
You could easily get experience and make a few games that get a bit popular and then get hired by a larger indie studio
No degree required
If u wanna do game dev
💀
So u wanna do game dev cus it sounds cool?
Do 100 hour work weeks sound cool 🤔
okok lemme rephrase. I enjoy the idea of putting unique concepts in a game and see where it takes u. I also like to code
So you wanna do indie game dev
Like i said, doesn't require any sort of degree
A degree is unnecessary debt and/or time wasted
Experience is super valuable
i cant just make a game from scratch without taking courses- i tried and that got me nowhere. Ive watched a couple of playlists and that also got me nowhere
i know how to code somewhat
just learning unity is a whole different task
And what makes you think this'll change if/when you get out of college? You'll know how to make a game, but you won't have any ideas to actually do it, maybe you'll get a job out of college at best? 🤔
learning from courses and then creating stuff is the best way i learn
i take AP Comp Sci and thats how i learn
Ok, you enjoy making games, what do you think a game developer does as a job tho?
This is all from someone who has considered game dev as a career btw
depends on what u work as
What do u wanna
coding and some designing
You need to choose 🤔
You can't exactly do both
then coding
Maybe in a small studio or team
So scripting video games is a fun and fulfilling job for you?
i wont know till i try it
but yea seems like it
Why do you think so 🤔
i like coding and adding game dev to that makes it better
I've spent more time than I wanna admit working on game scripts, and as someone who enjoys coding i can't say i like it at all tbfh
In a large project ur code will barely even have an impact 🤔
thats fine im not looking for large recognition or praise
just a good income
There's better jobs with higher incomes, better hours/ treatment and maybe even more fulfillment out there
Crunches are common in every large project
Indie studios don't pay super well
if thats the case then ill still enter the CS field in some form
and work on lil projects here and there
if given the chance
Brother u need to figure ur life out me thinks 🤔
CS conditioning is little less than brainwashing
?
Why cs?
ive just had a enjoyment from coding
learning HTML and CSS
Do you need me to state again why enjoying doing smth doesn't relate to it being a good job for u
and Java
I just did this with game dev for u
i’d much rather enjoy a job with a medicore income rather than hate a job with a high income but thats just me
if i change my mind then thats fine
i just enjoy taking CS classes
CS is not an enjoyable job with a mediocre income tho
If u wanna do enjoyable cs with mediocre income do stuff urself
As a freelancer or similar
If u work in large companies with high incomes you definitely won't enjoy it, tons of tech debt and hyper large projects where u don't matter
Or maybe startups, yeah that's probably the best work cs has to offer
i also enjoy art in some forms but i am not skilled enough for that-
just aa a hobby
Make a distinction between hobbies and careers
A career can be smth u used to think of as a hobby, but not everything u have as a hobby can be a good career
thats why i want to become a game developer since its a blend of both coding and designing
So you want to be an indie game dev in a small team or small indie studio?
That's not a terrible choice, sure
It's not a safe or 'good' career choice, but it could be enjoyable if u make it so
whatever comes up in my path
0-0

But if you can't even learn game dev urself, why do you think you'll be a successful game developer? If you're working alone or with one or two other people, there won't be any structures or professors to guide u 🤔
thats where classes come in
Taking a game dev class or 2 wouldnt hurt
gets the ball rolling for me
To be independent
So you're just gonna do the auxiliary game dev path
What'll be your main career then? The suffocating job u leave to be your own independent game dev?
sure if thats the path i deem best for me. I just want to create games that are enjoyable, whatever path i go on to create one is something ill learn after high school
or even during
Didn't really answer
then i dont have an answer yet
So make one 😭
That's the whole point 😭
that’ll be something i can answer in the future
I dont have everything figured out yet im only a sophomore
Did i narrow it down for u
You have about 1.4 years left before college apps 🤔
i probably wont have everything figured out by then either. If I have a decent idea of what I want to do, which is make games, then i’ll be fine
how does class of '25 start applying in literally a few months 😭
im so not ready for this lmao
yeah I am absolutely terrified
is taking ap chem necessary, for some one who wants to go to an stem/engineering field like (comp engineering, cs)?
No?
not really, but it kinda helps
would taking an intro chem class through dual enrollment like chem 101 be considered a good supplimental?
to give refrence
ap chem covers both intro to chem + general chem 1
Sure, if u don't wanna do chem that de class might be less course load for a good weighted gpa rise still
makes two of us 🤝
What do u wanna do when u grow up
live bro
(Cus APs vary quite a bit)
Generally CS A isn't a hard class tho
what do u plan to major in?
Is it better if I go for Mechanical engineering bachelor's and then Aerospace engineering masters or should I try for both bachelor's and master's to be aerospace engineering
having them stay the same would obviously the be the most beneficial so you make sure that you have all the basic knowledge required for your masters
but if you're really interested in mechanical engineering, go for it
it doesn't really hurt
in the same situation, it doesn't rly matter as long as you have good course rigor
i'm taking ap physics instead of ap chem bc i just like it more
take ap chem if you want to major in chem eng
Yea I think imma go mechanical then aerospace cus I like both cars and space
currently sobbing my school doesnt offer computer science as a science /hj
computer science dosent fall in the science category on my school course description guide but it counts as a science credit at my school
bro hoiw
damn my school requires it in freshman year
i want to take an extra ap in my senior year, should I take AP physics, ap csp, or ap cs a ( i want to go into pre-med/psychology and biology major)
none of those relate to the field u wanna go to
is there any classes that do\
Should I take AP Chem over the summer?
Sure why not
I've only take Chem I.
And for some reason
Algebra I is the only req
Yet trig is a req for AP Physics I
Which I think is just very goofy
cause physics 1 uses trig??..
For us the pre req for physics is Algebra 2
algebra 2 has some trig
does your school offer ap precalc?
Does AP bio require some chemistry knowledge?
No but we have regular pre calc
I’d be taking it next year if I don’t self study over the summer
Otherwise I’d be in calc bc
Ya
are you debating if you are going to take precalc or calc?
what program is this
then take it over the summer id say
that lets you take it over the summer>
most schools allow summer classes
Yea I’m like mathmaxxing so I gotta max my math
well
yeah, but depends on how your teacher teaches it too, if your school doesn't require it then the teacher probably teaches some preliminary chem
yea i say take it
because it keeps your mind in the zone when comming back
and not forget everything
precalc isn't even that important
Fr
from previous math classes
that is a bad typo to make
Apparently at my school it’s like algebra 2 1/2
Most of it’s just relearning Alg 2
whaattttt
Algebra 2 and a half
it introduces you to few new things that is mainly a branch of what you have previously learned
agreed XD
where's the 'What major should you study: Computer Science' located?
I don’t even know if the English AP offered at my catchment high school is lit or lang
hey i have a question i am from the uk and want to apply to MIT and other collages for aerospace there is not much advice or help here just wanted your opinion
should i take ap european history in 10th
If you want.
Of course
if ui like hiustory]'
Sure
then ig i wont
Guysss, I need help
So I’m choosing my classes for junior year (I’m in a IB program) and I’m not really sure if the classes I chose are good since I don’t really understand credits and stuff 🤷♀️
Oof I did the IB program it sucks I feel you
I’m scared man 😭
Don't worry! I bull crapped my way through it!
Show me your ways
I just cried a lot, but also rember that the easer classes are still impressive. I did all easy courses and still got a 4.2 GPA
Awesome 😮
Currently I have like a 3.367 GPA rn, Ik IB will help get you enough credits to be a freshman or sophomore in college but they be doing too much😞
I get that, Just keep pushing, I know you can do it. I'm as dumb as a bag of rocks and still did it, So if I can, then you defenetly can!!
Thank youuu, I need the support 🙏😭
I can give all my stats
Is it better to do AP art despite not wanting to be an artist for the sake of improving my hobby and boosting my GPA or is it better to take a business class (no weight) just to try something new that could be a college opportunity that i may or may not like
None of us are because we’re mostly all in high school lol
Wait okay rewrite your question because currently there’s isn’t really a question as much as a statement
Take a business class
do both 🔥
idk depends how u did in past spanish classes
Im native spanish speaker and it was really easy, I have taken so far Spanish 2 honors and I got a+
ru taking 3 next year r smth
No, Im taking ap spanish lang in my junior yr
gl
But I didnt know about that one because Ive heard that theres a lot of reading and some writting
What jobs can I get if I complete my masters in mathematics
Hola
assuming i pass summer geometry, what should my math courses look like if i start algebra 2 as a freshman?
Teacher, professor are the basics
Depending on what you do in math also answers that question
Statistics has a lot more options then general mathematics
I mean you could be a mathematician consultant for a business or smth
Math is a really general field and a lot of the jobs you could do can also be someone with a bachelors in a focused field like accounting, statistics, computer science, engineering
My mom got a degree in math with a statistics focus and went to medical school
Albeit she still had to do the premed courses
Alg 2 as freshman, trig as sophomore, pre calc as junior, calc as senior
Or some schools allow u to take trig and pre calc in same year
if u wanna make urself a collage, do it
Some schools might not have trig
how is trig not in alg 2
Trig is also in some of geometry
I don’t think it’s worth spending a year on trig 😅
Just take a summer class or EA out of it
pre ap geometry
AP extra math help>>>
Oh yeah 😅
if i want to be an english teacher while working as a photographer on the side, would it be good for me to study some type of english/education as a major and minor in photography??
the minor in photography would only be valuable to learn the stuff taught in the minor, which is pretty bad at most unis, outdated and incomplete
you definetely dont need a degree to be a photographer and most definetely dont need to take a minor if u wanna do it as a hobby or side business, there are better ways to learn too
What classes would be best to take if I wanted to be a photographer or some major in nursing 🤔
We don't even know what classes your high school has
It’s mostly IB
I would kms
I’m sorry but for students like me who didn’t know wtf was coming, Algebra absolutely knocked the wind out of you.
does anyone go to a high school where you can take ap classes?
like your freshman year
ye why?
Freshman can take AP Precal, AP Government, AP Comp Sci Principles, and AP Human Geography here.
What’s your guys opinion of AP world as a class? People say it’s pretty hard but world history is my favorite type os history so im thinking of taking it next year
If it's a subject you're interested in, definitely take the class!
AP World is not that difficult just a bunch of reading.
I've finished pretty much all of my credits so far, and I only have a few more to go, but I still have years of highschool left. For the college I intend on going to, I have to have a math and english class every year, but I don't have enough credits left to get me through the rest of highschool.
Is AP Pre-Calc as hard as everyone is making it seem? AP Chem too?
Just depends on how good you are at math and chemistry
We don't talk about my math skills🫢
AP precal isn't hard at all, AP Chem is tough if you aren't interested or good at chemistry
If you're doing alright in your current level you can do AP Precal
Ok ok other kids who taken it at my school said its the most hardest AP at our school and people barely get As which worries me
I'm in MH3 right now, and I've been getting refused tutoring so I'm not doing that well. By is it hard, I mean to like..your average person. Not someone who's good at math
That shouldn't be the case unless your teacher(s) are specifically bad
Shouldn’t be
I don’t think it’s that hard to the average person, for chemistry i think it is hard for the average person
Ah..cause for mine, if I take AP calc (i don't rlly have a choice), I also have to take AP chem
depends on how good you are tho
Oh
I mean you’ll be fine
have you taken an honors chemistry or any chemistry b4
You can do it if you try
I go to a small school so its the same teacher and mostly people say the class isn’t hard its the teacher and her workload that she puts on people since its only your second year of HS.. someone who’s taking it said its find and you can get an A.. I’m already in AP HUG so i feel like ill be sorta prepared
It shouldn't be much harder than huge
a natural step up given it's the next year
Yeah i just can’t get a B in the class since im trying to keep my 4.0
I had 2 B's and I still had a 4.3 last semester
Theres multiple GPAs that you have
wait what
Theres GPA, WTD GPA, CORE, and CORE GPA
Your GPA is effected by like your letter grades, WTD GPA is like effected by the courses credit so honors and AP add to more, core is just basic core classes by letter, and Core WTD is core classes but effected by your course credits
I've never heard of WTD or Core WTD. But yeahh..my GPA was a 4.3 last year with two B's and 2 A's. But I also had all honors, so it's a 4.5 maximum for each class.
Collages look at all of them so for me its important to keep that 4.0
OSU is looking harder n harder to get to I swr
yeah
Really? I thought Algebra was pretty straightforward and simple when I took it this year
But ig some schools might have different curriculum and everyone is different
My teacher was also the worst teacher I ever had
Algebra is actually one of the biggest GPA killers for students
Especially that Algebra I
And one of the most failed classes
A lot of students don’t know what the hell they are walking into for it
Guys this is class im taking 11th grade (currently 10th grade(
- AP Psych
-AP Lang
-Dual credit histroy
-Physics (regular) - arabic
-Quran
-Islamic studies
-Honors precalc
Looks good
actually?!
😂
