it starts off kinda easy
it’s not hard it’s just a lot of writing
i wrote like 11 pages of work in 1h15 to get a 5
what the
is taking the apcsp test even worth it
Yeah
Take calc bc and take physics
a lot of physics
take like physics 1, 2 and mechanics and maybe e & m if you can
And any other engineering classes offered at your school, for example at my school we can take intro to engineering, engineering design, engineering science, and civil engineering
Nope
No college will give u a credit for that
ok good
cuz i didn’t even sign up for the test 😭
and plus like comp sci not even related to my major so
Just kidding
Basically it's an award that the college board gives out if u get 3 or more on more than 5 APs
Some people put it in their college app honors but imo it isn't great for ur apps
oh
What makes an honor good is uniqueness and prestige/ difficulty
Everyone has it pretty much so it's not unique
And it's not difficult either
Plus they can alr see your submitted AP scores
should i take ap statistics? my brother says it is easy but technically im not allowed to take it yet. im going into sophmore year and im also going to be taking ap pre calc. i think based off of academic track record and the fact that the principle really likes me I could probably be let in. It would also fill my requirement for the mu alpha theta club. Do you guys think I should do it though or do you think im killing myself by doing so?
sorry, now that I look back on it the paragraph is pretty poorly worded
im on the other side of luke, i think its ok to put on your app
imo it shows that you did well across a lot of college level courses
Full schedule:
AP pre-calc
Honors English 10
Honors Chem
Lunch
AP Statistics
CHS Intro to comp sci
Honors Physics
Study hall for labs
Honors Spanish 3
Guys Im in 9th grade rn and my schedule is kinda bad, and I was late to skipping ahead classes, etc
For this year I have
Honors English 9
World History
Honors Envio. Science
Honors Algebra 1
Honors Intro To Eng.
Honors Spanish 3
I need to get to calc by 11th which includes completing geometry-pre calc between now and the start of 11th. How can i do so?
summer classes?
hey guys so my school has like their own news broadcasting thing
my school used to have half semester geometry and half algebra 2 if that's a thing for yall
i dont see why not
ok]
nope :/
i can take 2 courses in the same year
but that would leda to alg 2 by end of 10th
yeah i dont think it's possible to do 3 maths in one year
:/
for us, we can take a high school classes through a college and the school will give you credit
or ask your school councilor if you have one
like you would go there when?
during the summer or after school
guys i also need an opinion im be a senior and im taking
Honors organic chem
Honors multivariable calc
speech
ap physics
ap lit
ap comp sci a
ive taken both ap chem and ap bio and ap calc bc but idk if i should get another class or just straight up a off period any idea what more i should take
this year was straight hell too 😭
senioritis moment
never seen a school where u can take o chem and calc 3
CHS?
wait your high school classes are identical to mine
like at least the classes that my hs offers
Yea our school is like a math and science academy so they have like honor courses that you can take after ap classes
All u have to do is double up in both math and science in one of your years, for example I double math in 9th and double science in 11
oh i wanna do that
ik already doubling math this year and doubling science next year
im going into 9th next yr and i was wondering if taking AP csp, span 2, and lead/health
ur only taking 3 classes?
geo and geometry r the same thing?
wat grade r u in
ok
lmfaoo
srry bro
tbh that could mean anything
but whatever
anyway
are my courses good
?
mhm
thx
Is it bad to have my schedule have 22 APs over 4 years
My school dosen't offer honors or IBs or allow us to do college classes
if you think you can handle it go for it
It's not bad as long as you get consistent 4s and 5s
I can go up to 24 but it seems hard
I can’t even tell if he’s freaking joking cuz this is a nerd discord group LOL
I don’t think that’s even possible ngl
Bro fyi APs aren’t everything on a college app
6 APs a year
wtf are u insane
APs are not allat bruh
I’m taking like 8 since we can only take like 3 a year and only junior senior year
Half the time you can’t even transfer the credits believe it or not…
Yea
hii
yo so
i have a question
is this a good schedule for sophomore year?:
APUSH
AP world
chemistry
Spanish 3
Computer applications
Algebra 2
(standard english classes i forgot the name of them)

Apush and ap world in the same year? You want to die or smth? Gl, but please, be careful of mental health
womp womp bro is double history 😭
tryna be silly huh 🔥
How hard is AP Lang? What’s the class like from your experience?
My brother’s junior schedule
- Junior English
- Hon Precalc
- APUSH
- AP Chem
- Spanish III
- Physics
That's it?
guys what classes did u like or were fun ig for incoming 9th grader.
is it a good idea to take APUSH sophmore year
even if i kinda suck in english classes
yeah, youll be ok
as long as you study and take notes and pay attention youll be fine
I really liked my geometry honors class and my french 2 honors class
as well as AP human geography if you have the oppotunity, its a really easy first AP class
Yeah he doesn’t care that much abt academics like he does in sports
But is there anything else you can do except for changing english to ap lang?
Yeah
Most people have 8-9
That'd be 3 aps
I'm not sure if he can handle that
What's the average in your school then?
6-7
Are the classes longer than average? Or is there just lack of electives?
1 hr each
is it a lot of time outside of class?
Maybe like 30 ish minutes a night depending on your teaxher
guys is three APs and two community college classes enough
For what exactly?
How many APs are offered?
If your school has 30, and you wanna go to Harvard, I'll just say, your ECs better be great
I’m taking AP Econ, AP psychology, AP calculus BC, independent research science DE and History De. my school offers 22 Aps
If your school has 3, don't even worry about it, although if u wanna go to Harvard still worry about ECs
😭 22
It’s for junior year
Why can't you take more then 🤔
In total how many did u take?
Do they not allow u to take any in freshman or smth
That's fair enough
We’re not allowed to take AP or freshman year
Just take some in senior too
I’m taking AP calculus this year but I doubled up on science
The DEs are great too
Yeah, just take more AP/ DE courses in senior and you'll be fine course wise 🤔
Imo
Yea I’ll end up with 11 advanced courses which is about average
I’m guessing for my county
It’s a competitive county
Yeah thats probably fine, you don't wanna take very few APs ofc but you don't need crazy numbers either
What ECs do you have tho?
And what kinda uni do u wanna go to 🤔
ROTC , local leadership organization ,co captain of underwater robotics and intern at law camp
I actually have no idea
I’ll probably get a job this summer
Yeah, APs are probably not the thing holding you back from T20s unless u happen to be rich and go to a private hs
no, I got a typical high school
Yep yep
Programs in my area are so competitive
Where u from
im sensing some Lousiana aura
Near DC
I am taking ap csp ap seminar and apush next year as a sophomore as now I am taking ap world any advices?
How many ap's would anyone recommend each HS year to guide me to high achievement (and somewhat manageable with other commitments) and to lead me to having a chance to be accepted at a top school.
What’s your major?
how abt biology
Generally, if you wanna go to very top schools, take as many APs as you can, around 8 is the average
You'll wanna take AP Bio and prob ap calc cus most colleges just like to see you do calc, but besides that you're fine to choose 🤔
Plus, APs matter less than ECs, and the amount of APs you need to take also depends on the number available at your school
you should take the chance!
my school doesn’t offer so many APs but i recommend taking at least 9
and my school made me take many required classes to graduate
try your best to take as many and possibly the ones targeted towards your major
go for it! (if you feel capable ofc)
yep
my ecs are def screwed tho
like i have nothing so far
and soph year is about to come to an end
I disagree don’t take as many APs as you can take the ones that benefit you the most
what r the APs that i should take in 9th
im taking AP Csp and AP Human Geo
Depends
Ofc
cuz im not tryna be too overloaded
What do you want to major in?
do i even need ap csp if i dont want to major in cs
If you don’t want to be a doctor and you try to be a doctor you will never succeed
BRO MY SCHOOL IS LETTING ME HOP FROM ALGEBRA 1 TO AP PRECALC💀
if you want to get into a top school, yes
Pick the career you enjoy most
i wanna be a doctor
also
is csp easy
what do i have to know
i believe that they added an frq section or sometihng
Why do you want to be a doctor?
so it got harder this year
wdym
cuz i wanna be it
and to like help ppl
i wanna be an orthopedic
but thats like rlly hard
Do you want to be a doctor because you’re interested in it or do you want to be a doctor because your parents want you to be one?
take what u think u would get a 5 on imo
maybe one thing where ur not so sure abt a 5 so you can say u have challenged urself
but challenging urself doesnt mean low grades, it means taking something where you arent 100% confident but want to develop your skills there
im interested but only in going into the orthopedic/cardiologist
You should take AP Bio fosho
Maybe Anatomy too
alr
when is that available
Honestly just check your desired college’s course requirements
Usually juniors and up
Alr
alr thx for ur help
apes doesn't seem very useful tbh
You have at least one college you want to go to though right?
Depends on your major
hello sorry for interrupting this conversation you guys can ignore this if you can't
i think ap bio would cover stuff like ecology
You know how to check course requirements for graduation right?
👍
ill get back to u
apes would
if i find somth
when people say they took 11-15 aps they mean including senior year right? because my 9th, 10th, and 11th grade will add up to 9 aps so i'll only have 9 ap scores to send to collegeboard. im in 10th grade btw
i went through hs without an environmental science but that was cus i had a plan
lot of the time its helpful to just have the standard 1 bio class, 1 earth sci, 1 chem, 1 physics if you dont have a special plan
and i will take aps my senior year its just that i wont have scores to send in terms of being admitted
they usually mean senior year too
@dim pilot So I would prioritize putting APs that benefit your major first and prioritize APs that benefit your gen eds second
whats ur major
lotta schools want u to send a copy of ur 1st semester of senior year so it still matter up till then
i have 3 history classes rn
i’m fine
@dim pilot want to move to DMs since a lot of people are chatting?
are there any colleges that require you to apply to a specific school instead of a specific major
like cornell
💀
im an 11th grader in hs rn
but planning on doing a double major in biochem and econ bc i wanna go into being an analyst for biomedical companies
i mean 2 of them are rlly easy
i literally have the same interests in your majors
bio and econ seems to be it for me
tbh half of the econ interest started bc i invested in ozempic as a joke but then made srs money
Sure
I’ll chat at 8:30
Is that ok
I’m busy at the moment
upenn requires certain school and mahor
major*
kinda does
apes would be ur best bet
i need some advice im moving in to highschool and dont know if i should do AP or IB cuz im going to a good school and they offer both
thoughts ?
Question: is it ok to take 2 AP’s in 9th grade?
The 2 AP’s in taking are:
AP Computer Science Principals
AP Government
ur allowed to
thats what im doing
im taking CSP AP and AP Human Geo
Thx
np
my school has no freshman aps 💀
heyo
my school only has 1
but u can convince ur counselor with good grades and stuff to take 2 or 3
yeah comp sci is super easy but it’s SO boring for me
like i wanna kms when i get in that class
@here For the courses for next year, if I must choose between AP European History and an honors class (Mechatronics Honors), should I choose AP Euro which is more rigorous, yet seems boring to me, or should I choose the honors class that is less rigorous but more interesting?
I would say the one that is interesting for you in my opinion
Especially if it’s related to your future major
You should pick Ap addition
it is related to my future major
Then go for it
Just so you know, this is my opinion others might say different
but my only concern is, don't colleges want students that challenge themselves with harder courses? so if I choose a less challenging course, despite being offered one, would that not hurt my application?
There’s no way to know
But it’s gonna depend
And if your course is already rigorous, you’ll be fine
AP euro might be a safer bet
But the honors will also help you like AP’s if it’s related to your major
ok
i think im just gonna ask some ppl that took the hononrs course how it was
and based off of that
choose ap or not
tysm
No problem
is it weird if my course selections and ecs and personal statement.. my whole selling point to colleges are extremely political science-oriented
and then i have finance as my major
or do you think i can pass that off as a prelaw thing
Take political science as your major, then 🤔
Colleges like seeing that your major is reflected in your app, and it can make a good spike if you have impact with it, plus if u wanna go through law, ug major doesn't even matter, I wouldn't risk it 🤔
HIGH SCHOOL COURSE IDEAS FOR STUDENTS PURSUING MEDICINE
*I’ll try and be broad as possible because Ik a lot of schools are different with their courses.
When it comes to science and math, I recommend not taking regular level. Try and take honors level at least if school offers it.
HONORS:
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Statistics
Algebra I & II
Geometry
Trigonometry (Only if your school requires it, and they don’t combine the class with geometry)
Pre Calculus
Calculus
Psychology (Perhaps just take the AP version instead of honors)
You should also be considering taking AP specific science courses, and possibly some math courses too.
AP:
Biology
Chemistry
Lang (I recommend AP Lang to any major it’s so good to have great writing skills.)
Statistics
Calculus
Psychology
*Definitely try and take AP Bio, and AP Chem at the very least.
*IB
Ik some schools work advanced courses on IB. My school doesn’t have IB classes, so I have no idea how they run. If there is science and math courses perhaps take them.
ELECTIVES:
Medical terminology/anatomy literally just anything medical offered please take it.
Food and Nutrition
CPR classes perhaps
Take at least 2 years of a foreign language. If you’re American, Spanish is your best bet. Due to the large Spanish population in America. You can learn to communicate with Spanish speaking patients in the future.
Genetics class?
Take health classes and PE
These are just good ideas to keep in mind if you’re going into the medical field.
is taking AP us history in sophmore year a good idea even if i am no good at writing essays and planning to take 2 other APs?
im thinking about taking 6 APs next year - ap computer science principles, ap calculus ab, ap calculus bc, ap us government, ap psych and ap physics I.
do u think this is doable as a sophomore
jesus christ you are a madman
Can I ask what your intended major is after high school?
preferably neuroscience but def something in medicine
Definitely don’t skip over my message than here
im taking bio honors and ap precalculus rn, i am going to take chem honors, ap physics, calc and psych next year. I will take stat and bio and ap chem and ap lang in junior year
yea im grinding
Yeah there is one
cuz its such a free gpa booster
There is no point in taking AP pre calc
it is sooo easy
Just take honors
Have you heard of weighted gpa
Most schools don't give honors 5.0, and neither do colleges
fr
AP > honors in terms of college admissions and most high schools 😭
Physics I recommend for like engineering and tech type fields
Eh
Taking a physics class will not harm you
that is the mandatory social studies course for sophomores
AB and BC in the same year too?!
bro calc is so light and even so that is mandatory too
He should just straight up take BC
Don’t take both in same year
There’s no point
What kind of hell school are you going to
Some schools require it
bro how different is precalc from calc
Is there like a lower level gov class at your school?
like in terms of difficulty
I heard it’s nothing like calc
yea but it is a regular class and i sure as heck am not takin that
bc precalc is a joke
Bruh gov has nothing to do with your major so just take the reg
To save room in schedule
Less hw
Less work
And a chill period
tbh i dont really care about work
You won’t even really get college credit for it
i just need to be val
my ECs are fine i think
You think
Well your impact is the matter
Keep that in mind
There is no point of going to Harvard besides just showing off
It’s a literal flex honestly
tbh i feel like i can handle 6 aps bc the 2 aps I took this year were really easy
ap world and ap precalc
2 vs 6 APS is a big jump
I’m just saying
Plus the ones you had in mind, some of them are definitely pretty fucking hard.
which ones?
ive gotten mixed reviews on calc some people tell me it light but then others tell me they failing the class
Well good luck ig
i might take off ap physics I and calc bc and put 2 honors classes in the end tho
thx
Is AP world worth it
I’m allowed to take it next year, but I ultimately chose honors world.
It doesn’t relate to my major and I heard a lot of colleges won’t even take the credit
tbh ap world doesnt relate to my major either but it was actually kinda interesting
would ap world be ur first AP?
It would be
are you planning on taking ap world with other APs?
then u should try it out
Honors Bio
Honors Chem
Honors English II
Honors World
Honors Alg 2
Honors Geometry
Health
Drivers ED
I mean I guess I could
I’d have to pull honors world out and drivers Ed out to fit it
I mean I’ll think about it
I have until June to go to my counselor and fix it
oh r u freshman rn
Ye
chem honors is hard
My school, I heard very mixed things about it
I heard some units are easy, and others will be the last of you
That’s what I heard about AP chem too
idk its up to you but u should def consider ap world
but bio honors and chem honors combined might be a little tough
but it is completely up to u
take a grain of salt with my advice
My Junior year I’m doing AP Bio, AP Lang, Honors Physics, Honors Pre Calculus, Honors Civics, PE, and other shit
It won’t be combined. I get Honors Bio first semester, and Honors Chem second semester. Same thing with the maths Honors Algebra II first semester, and honors geometry next.
dude
some of the 6 ap classes you mentioned are really hard
and ur two ap classes u took
precalc, world history arent seen to be as hard of ap classes
as like physics 1
comp sci principles is free tho
alr who wanna rank this
Freshman year:
Honors Geometry
English I
Spanish II
Honors Biology
Honors World History
Orchestra
Sophomore year:
Algebra II
English II
AP Spanish
Elective: Introduction to Computer Science
Ap US History
AP Physics I
Junior Year:
Honors Pre-calc:
AP Lang
AP Computer Science Principles
AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism
Health and Financial Literacy
AP Us Government
Senior Year:
Ap Calculus bc
AP Literature
AP Microeconomics
Physical education
AP Statistics
AP Computer Science A
What major?
CS
I don't need really
I'm taking half credit in 8th grade and then half credit in 9th grade
cuz thats how it works
I see
Is it a bad idea to take AP Bio and AP Chem in the same year along with AP Lang?
yes.
The thing is I’m taking honors bio and chem next year (sophomore year)
nvm
why AP Lang
AP Lang is good because you got to write good yk
🤷♂️
Plus if I don’t take AP Lang and stay on the honors track, I’ll be taking English III British Literature-Honors
Which isn’t going to help me at all
🥶
Yeah so it’s better to take Lang over fucking British lit
i mean, you have reasons for doing all of them, so i would go for it if you think you can handle it
just don't do any ecs that year or somth lmao
Ik bio and chem are extremely bad by themselves
Let alone fucking together
It won’t happen
Nope I’m doing ecs lol

Is it better to do bio and lang jr year
other than robotics team?
Oh yeah
you're doing these in 10th?
No 11th
ok
Than Chem and some other AP 12th prob
that would def be easier
I’m planning to make it to states for track soon
I have track winter and spring, cross country in fall, karate all year, theatre all year, choir all school year, band all school year, robotics all year, medical ecs all year, so yeah I’m pretty dang busy
...
?
My only concern about pushing the chem off is that I’ll forget all the content from honors
And not have two fucking clues what’s going on in AP chem
hmm
HL
Math AA
Physics
French B
SL
Chem
Econ
English Lang Lit
Can anyone give thoughts/insights
French HL?
Yes
What major u wanna do 🤔
Chemical Engineering
And no chemistry hl 😭

Just seems weird to me but yeah, that's a ton of course load to have three stem HLs
Does your school have a 2 HL option at that point tho 🤔
Wdym?
only taking 2 HLs?
Yea
No I've seen it 🤔
You take 2 HLs and then take a fine arts class
Whatever you want then
I know this isnt EC chat but some select UK unis still do care about ECs
just not most of them
Sure ig
Are US unis rly that much better than European ones?
They're more prestigious
The only reason you go to university is the degree
You can learn stuff for free
Prestige lets you get jobs easier and better jobs
And networks
Alumni networks for T20s go crazy
But there are also international unis that rival the ivies
for free?
Yeah
MiT and other universities publish literal college courses for free
MiT OCW is a great example
The catch is, ofc you don't get a degree or certifications
Paying for stuff is old school when the internet exists
math
yep
What ECs 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
too many 💀
following in Selina's footsteps
girl bye 💀
Why ru crying Selina got into MiT
What 💀
Why ru bye-ing me when I'm literally just talking about free advice 😭
It's quite literally a waste to have too many ECs 🤔
9th grader talking?
I'm not
I'm in sophomore 💀
what happened to doing what you enjoy
Are you a junior
yes
Doing what you enjoy won't get you into an ivy league
(No offense to anyone, just my opinion)
chill
I enjoy playing video games
i work hard and do what i like
Yeah ofc
Do they make you do a test at the start of the IB to predict your final score
i wanta favor from you😃
I'm not debating that, just that not everything is an EC
Go ahead
we get predicted based on tests and class time
i made this edit please review this and share your opinion with me

You might not enjoy stuff that is easy to get an impact with, and what you enjoy the most might not even be unique
Might wanna go to my gf 🤔
I don't interact with any k-anything
huh😂 ????/
She's super addicted to k dramas 😭
The world 🤔
Yeah I'd think so 😭
i do impacts where i want to and do ecs that i like it’s not that serious and that way i can pick what i want to put in my application
i meant if she watches kdrama then you might be asian ig
What classes did you take in 9th and 10th
if you dont mind me asking
Sure yeah that's fair, I'm just talking from my own long time bouncing around the internet getting confused by bad advice
Do what you love isn't good advice
It doesn't help you narrow down what to do
😭 what
french, precal and calc, physics, chem, a bunch of other stuff that’s not important
it s guess😭
Can only Asians watch k dramas 🤔
Didn't know it was illegal, I'll ask her to stop mb mb
i wrote might too
did calc prepare you for math aa hl
no💀
Out of context 😭😭
i have a 97% test average so yes
Nice
mbmb
yes it is
do you know if AP Stats or im3 Adv prepares you
cuz you dont like it🧈
im taking stats rn, I think its the easiest college lvel course ill ever take
@loud solar Sorry for all the questions , but do you know what kind of IB score i would get if I have a 3.7 GPA
tbh high 30s? if you work rlly hard it could be higher
somewhere in 30s
false
i did what i was passionate about
If you say so
yuh
if u like
are doing something
just for the sake of college apps
u want get into ivies
For me, college apps are a much needed motivator to do what I am doing that will eventually look good to colleges
I love learning about stuff, even advanced topics in physics and astronomy, but I would never even try to do an Olympiad or qualifier even if I end up enjoying it, and based on my past experiences with them, it's not something I enjoy all that much
Anyways, my point is, passion varies from person to person, and you're right, but so am I; such is the way of opinions and perspectives
oh wow i would be happy w that
anything above 35
Can GPAs translate all that well to IB scores tho 🤔
prob not but maybe give a small range
You could be relatively bad at tests but get a relatively high GPA but then flunk on IB and the other way around the way i see it
true
nuh uh
Depends what you enjoy
Exactly
I am taking this for this year as freshman: PreAp English I honors, Geometry Honors (our school does Algebra 1 and 2 before) bio honors, ap world, Spanish 2 honors, body systems (anatomy), health, intro to compsci, intro to personal finance, and video production. For next year as a sophomore I am planning on taking pre ap English 2 honors, Precalc honors, chem honors, apush, ap compsci principals, ap seminar, Spanish 3 honors, pe, and literature film. Is that good?
What are the differences between IB and the Cambridge program
i met ppl with a 80-85% average who are getting 30s/42
w selina moment 🗣️
@loud solar Your message(s) have been flagged as spam and have been removed.
chat why is this bot here
u also usuallt don’t get into ivies if you don’t do what you enjoy doing
it doesn’t have to be ur life’s work but like u shouldn’t be doing it solely because of college
My school offers online honors courses, and doubling them and finishing each in 1 semester allows you to take more than 7 classes. Should I double up on Bio and Chem in 1 semester each or take them both year long? If I double them up, I can take AP Human Geo
💀💀💀💀💀
I'm not from the US so I have 0 idea about APs and Honors sorry~
damn
Help me
thats good
Any advice for the aps?
pretty solid
what are pre aps weighted as
5 points if honors
but also make sure you’re going towards the route for ur major
Which is what I’m doing
That’s what I’m going for double major in radiology and cs
how do u have 10 classes
We have blocks so we get 4 blocks a day but it rotates and it’s semester based
S1: Geo-H, AP Lang, Chem-H, AP Human Geo, DE Wellness (5.0 college level), AP Computer Science Principles, Spanish III-H or AP Spanish (have to pass exam)
Dang
S2: Alg-II-H, AP Lang, Bio-H, AP Human Geo, DE Wellness, AP Comp Sci Principles, Spanish III-H or AP Spanish
is this a good schedule for sophomore year?
Courses for Freshman year: STEM H Biology, STEM H 9th Lit, Spanish II (we don’t do honors at my school for some reason), Intro to Biomedical Principles, Honors Algebra II
And then hopefully I get into Symphonic 1 lol
guys rate the scedule out of ten. i am in 8th grade and i made a rough draft on my freshman to senior yr
whats ap english 3
sum thing that our school gives
idek
here is our yk, courses, doesnt have all of them tho
Ap lang I think
Just wanna make sure I check of the criteria
I've seen worse
that’s a big range
so you’re saying kids with 3.0 GPAs?
any indians ?
no kidding
I've seen some around
are these good for going into freshmen year
good for what though? It's a solid course selection I suppose https://cdn.discordapp.com/emojis/695126170479493132.webp?size=64
To look good on college application and gpa? I think honors in my school is weighted at 5 and ap is at 6.
Hey y'all I have some doubt, do most complete uni without masters and find job ? If yes why?
Most colleges weigh Honors around 4.5
My mom said, (In India) Master degree doesn't give a big value but only does if u go overseas...
Y'all understand what I'm saying?
What
Most Indians get master's
Fewer western people get master's
But a master's from an Indian University might not carry that much weight in western countries
And they're in foreign countries?
Yeah, even Indians who go to universities outside India often do go beyond their undergraduate from what I've seen
Yeah that's what I'm talking abt
Thx 👍🏼
Huh what
But like
Why does that matter for you
You should weigh the benefits for yourself
"Physical Ed, history/social studies, outdoor Ed, geography, environmental science, wilderness first aid, biology, geology, communications/public speaking" should I try these courses if possible? (I'll see what I can do bout em ofc bc they ain't all taught in HS I don't think)
Where are you getting this list
Idek I'm asking AI for courses for future career as a park ranger...
💀
What even is a park ranger
State forestry or US forestry stuff
I think
Idk I like trying new things and whatnot
Chat am I screwed? Iselected AP geography but now I’m second guessing
How does the teacher teach it? Why are you second guessing?
Nah it’s for my freshmen year, I’m in 8th atm picking my HS courses
Ny social studies teached it before , he said it’s a lot of work but he thinks I can handle it
HuG is generally an easy course, but you might want to see how the teacher teaches it and the course load she assigns
If there's a lot of homework load, look at another AP, it might not be worth it then 💀
The actual difficulty you experience with an AP doesn't matter for anything
Unless you want to major in geography, taking HuG when it's for a ton of homework load might not be a great idea, unless you don't have any other AP elective choices
Yeah they kept saying I could switch out if I can’t handle it or smthin
😭..
Nah I don’t wanna take it as a major, trying to do law as a major.
That’s the only course I can take for social studies
Probably won't matter all that much then
I have APA English tho, and APA biology
Just take whatever ap you can and don't worry about the subject I'd say
APA?
Seems garbage 😭
Just take HuG then I'd say, a lot of high schools make a fuss about easy APs
I have more freedom in sophomore tho, right now are choices are limited
Yep ye
yeahhh
also
They kept trying to convince me to take my native language
As an easy class
Over ASL
asl?
Because oh it’s easier n stuff
American Sign Language
And I won’t be as work overloaded in HS
and the teacher is deaf/hard of hearing too so that’s fun
Spanish
Most colleges want a foreign language
Even if it's ur native, they don't really care
Like it's not a dealbreaker, but you might as well take it imo
So they prefer something like Spanish over sign language?
They don't recommend ASL, they recommend a foreign language 🤔
well, I’m native to it sooo
Plus unless that ASL is honors or an AP, it won't look more rigorous at all
Free thingy
You could learn ASL outside hs
Yeah it’s only on level asl
Still, i don't think they'd mind if you don't have any other options
We only got -
Spanish
French
ASL
Native
Well, to be fair, what kinda uni do u wanna go to
Also isn't spanish ur native lang
Do you mean like english
Oh so that spanish probably still counts as a foreign language anyway 🤔
Plus it’s not like they’d specify, so it’s just going to be “Spanish”
Specifically or in general?
What?
General
I was writing two things at once mb
Lmao
Private
Just a local University, or like an ivy league, both are private
Specifically trying to go rice, staying in state, so a local uni I guess
Rice university?
That's a pretty competitive uni
We have a lot of owls here too
Oh you’re one? 👀
So yeah, taking a foreign language and taking as many APs is gonna be great
No lol
Oh we just have lots of owls ahah
Gotchaaaa
Thanksss, I appreciate it❤️
also I heard jrtoc looks pretty good if you do something big in it, no?
If u need more in depth advice for rice specifically, rice oniisama neko could probably help
Jrotc?
I’ll make sure to be contact em
Can u give me their @? 😭
nekomajicer
I'd ping him but he's not online 😔
Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps
basically military program
Awe man
That could probably look good if you get something prestigious with it, it all depends on impact, and not that many people do it afaik, so it's p unique too
Basically, for college ECs, two things matter:
Impact (The prestige of the extracurricular, your impact on the surroundings, it's impact on you), and uniqueness (how many people do it, and how hard it is to do)
Yeah, JRTOC encourages volunteer work, teamwork, etc.
Ranks are somewhat competitive, I think you can only have one colonel JRTOC member per district? Might need to fact check that
But good to know!!
I’ll note it down~
Do you think an A- in a level or B+ in honors would look letter. B+ is worth more on gpa scale, but it’s not straight As, so I think A- in a level might be better
Please ping me or I won’t see the messages, thanks!
A- in a normal class vs. B+ in a honors class?
I am currently a freshman, my high school offer's ap from grade 11, is there a possibility that I could ask my guidance counselor to take at least Ap course in my sophomore year.
Yeah I know people from other schools that email there counslers to let them take AP Classes and most of them say yes
I personally think a B in honors is similar to an A in normal, or potentially more worth than the A
Yeah which is better
Look at the scale
5.7 ap 💀
honors just looks better tbh
college might round to 5💀
Im in the top band in my school and im considering learning another instrument, but if i learn another instrument I would not be able to take office aide, office aide does not give me an extra grade, or extra credits, but neither does band, but it does give me more experience, should I stick to one instrument, and do office aide, or do two instruments
Office aide?
its in the word
Y'all help clerks as a course? 🤔
Should I take at least the pe class of tis during senior year?
"Physical Ed, history/social studies, outdoor Ed, geography, environmental science, wilderness first aid, biology, geology, communications/public speaking"
why would you want to be an office aid? also consider if you have enough time or a true desire to learn an additional instrument
That list is absolute garbage, just take what you want
thats so mean 😭
It's ai generated
oh 💀 carry on
Ok
Yea
Seems like an easy A, but it’s also not a grade 🤷🏾♂️
free class??
just take a study hall
Anyone know where I can take italian online?
Duolingo 😎
Will I get into Cornell with 32 aps?
plus calculus three at a community college nearby?
bro what
No
Cornell would reject you for being too good
damn it
Lol
absolutely.
That is not duolingo
Hi Guys
i’m in 8th grade rn going to 9th
my school offers IB so i’m not gonna take a lot of AP classes
so i was wondering how hard self studying APs are
It depends on what AP’s classes you want to take or self study
my friend got in cornell with 5 AP's somehow
How many APs did your school have
school doesn't have AP's, you have to take them externally
Do they even go on your transcript 💀
yeah yeah
If your school doesn't offers them, they don't matter 😭
They just had cracked ECs
i literally know 10 people who got in different ivy's and no one took more than 5 AP's
nope not that goosd
Yeah that's cus ECs matter way more
Do you happen to go to a private school
yeah i do
Stop talking 😔
wdym all schools in india are private
India 💀
there aren't any public schools at all
yeah lmao
They must've had extremely good ECs to get in as an international
No, there are 💀
Nevermind that tho
i mean there are but they're absolutely shit
I don't think you even know about their ECs at that point
ECs are what they look at 🤡
i do bruhv
ECs are basically the admissions tests in India but
they were insane
💀 yeah
i never said ECs dont matter
You said they were bad 😭
Now you're saying they're insane 😭
What’s normally taught in pre calculus
im a freshman currently, planning to do AP calculus and physics at the same time so do I just not do AP calculus in HS and do it in college?
i dont wanna die bc of having a lot of AP classes
matrices, trig functions, other graphs
Wait as a freshman ur gonna do AP calc and physics??
Ok thanks
why though? why cant u take physics before or after taking calc?
i think they mean for sophomore year
that isn’t crazy
and u can u js need to be taking pre calc at the same time but he prob took like chem or ap bio or sm when he was taking pre calc
yeah but he's going to be sophomore next year, so if he's taking calc next year, why cant he just take physics in junior and senior year and do easier APs with calc really https://cdn.discordapp.com/emojis/695126170479493132.webp?size=64
yeah makes sense
i’d take ap calc and bio
if u wanted to take a math and science ap
but it depends too
for some people calc is really easy and if ur already taking ap calc in sophomore year its prob easy
yeah ofc that too but like
and also if ur taking ap calc at that time too then physics shouldn’t be hard either it’s just algebra based
conceptual wise it’s difficult
bc of the exam questions
oof mb i forgot to clarify, planning to take it in senior uear
i mean at my school science grad reqs require 3 and math requires 3 also
im just doing AP calc and physics in senior year for a fill-in, + im interested in both subjects, but notably im struggling with APHG so i dont think i can handle two at the same time
im not that smart either lol
How are you struggling with it, just a ton of homework?
Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses
true…
no im planning to take it in senior year, forgot to clarify
Senior year schedule is, AP Lit, AP Stats, AP Psych, AP Human Geo, AP Bio, and Latin V (Dual Enrollment) I’m not the best at math, and I’m going to major in poli Sci, but will my chances at top schools like Cornell and Georgetown be significantly impacted by not taking Calc? Will my other classes make up for that?
this is true
why is this bot here
u dont have to enjouy olys
u can enjoy learning
and if u actually did enjoy learning then u would find other ways to show u enjoyed it if u didnt like olys
^
🤔
I'd love an example
ivy day yesterday
reliving the waitlist from yale...
like taking advanced courses at colleges, certificates, projects, literally anything- if you're passionate about something or enjoy learning then no matter what, you're going to find some outlet for it, whether it's self-learning online or other pathways
maybe you can follow your passion if you're an American ig 🤔
obviously for international people it's harder, but you still have access to the internet, don't you? if you don't want to do olympiads or aren't good at that type of [physics, math, whatever], and you're still passionate about it, then you can still learn online and enjoy learning it, as you said
Yep, and I do do that
yeah, and that's just fine if you don't want to do olympiads lol
it's just that olympiads are an outlet for that passion
i do want to say, it's fine to start something for an olympiad sake, but the people that are truly successful at the highest level, from what i've heard, actually enjoy doing it, and crave it- i'm overstating slightly, but they enjoy the challenges they pose and actually look forward to doing them rather than doing it as a chore
the latter of which is what 99% of all competitors do
and the latter also being the ones that don't succeed at the highest level
🤔
bud is thinking
No I was finding 'the latter' it's 4 words 😭
You're right ofc
So I just can't get into an ivy
Might as well try
this is my own personal rant here, but i really used to want to go to an ivy, i didnt really care which one, but ive learned that the ivy leauge is just really prestigious bullshit. youre going for the brand name because the system cares a lot about brand names. I understand people who have big hopes n dreams and stuff, and i completely understand, but dont try and prioritize elitism and prestige over your own mental health and happiness
Hi, I am a college student.
Can somebody let me know if this would be a good course selection for my fall semester:
I am going for an education degree but need general education credits so here I am lol
It totals 12 credits.
Ap or Ib if my school offers both?
what’s lb?
if your gonna go for ib diploma you are going to have to be completely immersed in the program
with like TOK and CAS and your IA's
and their idea of education is alot more holistic
from what ive heard, ib is actual hell
if you want to have a life outside of school, it is easier to do with ap classes since you can choose which ap classes you want to do
not saying it wont be easy
but it will be easier than ib
there is you answer
both programs are just as qualifiable and are taken to high regar
regard
i am also class of 2028 and this is how my highschool works if your do the ib program your junior year:
our first 2 years are our pre-ib years where we have like pre-ib biology for instance in preperation for ib
i would assume its like the equivalent of honors classes or potentially harder (idk)
Not all schools have that
what do you have?
We don’t have pre in
do you get to choose junior year?
