can someone help me
Freshman year:
Honors Geometry
English I
French I
Honors Biology
Ap World History
Orchestra
Sophomore year:
Algebra II
English II
French II
Honors Chemistry
Ap US History
Ap Comp sci A
Junior Year:
Honors Pre-calc
AP Lang
Ap French
Ap Chemistry
Health and Financial Literacy
Ap Us Government
Senior Year:
Calculus bc
English IV
Physical education
AP Microeconomics
AP Statistics
Ap Comp sci Principles
I was thinking replacing honors chemistry and ap chem with ap physics and ap physics c e and m
tbh im more of a bio guy but i think for cs Physics is better
idk tho my school says that chemistry is very strongly recomended
just do honors chem only?
then ap physics
u dont need ap chem for computer sci
š
@harsh hedge
wait like don't do E and M?
and put ap physics
uhh
ok so
why ru doing ap compsci a first?
compsci principles is first
ok
also u could take 7 classes senior year for ap physics c
but u prob dont wnat that
want**
this is allowed?
ok
Why are you dropping orchestra?
Also whatās your major?
Are these good courses
Also if anyone knows what ap lit, pre calc, personal finance, and U.S government are like please let me know much appreciated
I need to get these in before next year which is like 3/2 months left
yep
I heard personal finance is an easy class
Havenāt tooken the class though
Wait are you taking college level personal finance or high school level?
school require atleast 1 credit of Fine/Performing arts
CS
@harsh hedge how many courses are you allowed to have in a semester?
6
Itās for 12th grade so yeah high school I think
like i don't change each semester for full credit
Also are ap lit and ap lang similar
So dc doesnāt mean dual credit?
Idk š¤·āāļø
Never took the class
Idk Iāll have to ask that
What does dual credit mean
Ah ok thatās fine
You get college and high school credit at the same time
Through a community college
Bru this is so confusing to pick my courses
Do you want college credit for personal finance?
I got to be trippin or sumn, but why is your freshman year not have enough classes?
Why is there 8 in a year
what?
Yeah I mean I need a total of 8 credits
i have like 6 classes a day
I donāt want to pick the wrong courses and struggle so Iām trying to make sure everything goes correctly
Although I can change it when the beginning of 12th grade starts I think
Whatās your major again?
majors include science English and math right
Wait what is your freshman year schedule and can you include what class is year long and what is semester long?
You want 3 majors?
all is year long
Thereās a lot
Whatever you want but one major is usually the norm
Ok
Wait you know Iām talking about college majors right?
So what do you want be when your grow up?
For college
hmm Iām not sure thereās a lot of choices
Can I get some wxamples
Examples*
College board will help you find a major
Take there test or whatever
Ok how do I check that
Let me send the link
Find out what youāre interested in and when you do, go out in the real world and find out if you truly enjoy it. You can do job shadowing, internships, clubs that relate to that major, etc
Cuz I have one year of high school left and I gotta go to college/university for 4 years then comes the real world
Take your time
And I donāt wanna get the wrong classes either
Oh
This making me stressed
You can always major in undeclared
Itās probably best for me to have a session with a counselor right
Whatās undeclared
So you go to college and take gen Ed courses that required for every single major
Then for your for your second year you have to pick a major
Gives you a little bit more time to decide your major
Ask your guidance counselor about an undeclared major though
Do you have an idea of what specific colleges you want to go to btw?
How I would start thinking about a major is are you good at/enjoy STEM or not, STEM and non-STEM are the two major categories
My brother currently goes to Belmont university
Iāve been getting many offers from outlook though
Like TCU and Maryland university
I will and if I have to make adjustments when 12rh grade begins Iāll see how that goes hopefully it works out
ill ask about college and what courses are best to apply for
So I would look at the gen Ed courses and take those classes during your senior year
You know what gen Ed is right?
My school has living npcs no one provides any additional information that could be important
General education courses are any course that is required for all majors in order to graduate college
Well not the teachers but the counselors mainly
Common gen Ed courses are english and math
Oh so like math science and English?
Are these examples
Yeah
Yeah
Alright that makes more sense
Depends on the college though
Oh so some colleges require English
Letās look at Belmont university
While others require stuff like math and sciencr
Another one is social science
So does that include biology orrr
What are examples
Sorry science and social science get me confused
Cuz idk what one of them means I only know science
So sociology, political science, history, economics, communication studies, public relations, media studies, and Asian studies
Pick one
This is only for Belmont btw
Also website doesnāt specify what AP courses would transfer so let me look into that real quick
Wait you taking AP bio?
Ok I did ap us history that counts right
Yes Iām doing ap bjo Mr
I think
rn*
doesnāt specify what kind of history
Biology is a lab science and that is one of the gen eds
Also lmk if you want to major in stem
Cuz you need to drop bio for a different lab science if you donāt want to major in medicine or bio
Well if it doesnāt specify Iām assuming it counts I guess
Math and calculus are stem majors right
Math is
If you major in math youāll probably take courses in calculus and stats
Drop Bio? Iām doing it this year rn
Oh then keep doing it
Mb I thought you meant next year
Oh your good
What humanities courses have you taken?
So majors include English math a science and history right
So I have to select one of those essentially
Thereās a lot
whatās humanities
Do you know other examples?
Did you take the college board quiz yet?
No
Let me see the Belmont website
I only take stuff in my ap classes
Take it before I keep talking to you
I sent you the link right?
Here letās move to DMs
If if I do AP physics 1, how hard is it to self study mechanics
My school doesn't have AP physics C, but does have AP physics 1, how much more work would it be to self study for the mechanics test
Humanities (for me at least) was history, civics, geography and business
Physics 1 is Algebra based, Physics C is Calculus based. It would likely be a lot as all the AP Physics courses are considered the hardest. If you did it during the summer or something, maybe it would be ok.
It's just cuz they seem to cover a lot of the same things
But ok
Thanks
So are they really that different? Cuz if so I might take physics C online
Guys, can you give me some feedback on my course selections for 9th and 10th?:
9th:
Algebra 2 Adv
Gifted & Talented Humanities (English 1 Adv)
Geometry Adv
AP Human Geography
Medical Terminology
Computer Science 1 Adv
Spanish 2
Biology Adv
10th:
English 1 Adv
AP Physics 1
AP Chemistry
AP Precalculus
Anatomy & Physiology
Academic Decathlon/AP Seminar (depends on my test results)
Gifted & Talented Humanities 2 (AP World)
Spanish 3 Advanced
Take my advice with a grain of salt, I havenāt taken either yet, Iām just somewhat knowledgeable in the course structures and difficulties
But doing it online over the summer would be okay
Have you tooken Calc?
Hi! What can I do? If my school does not offer APs two freshman, and only AP gov to sophomores while having earned honours? Planning on taking pre calc freshman year. Any tips? I sent a version of this this morning, but her is a more coherent version.
So what you do is go talk to a guidance counselor. If you don't have one, your school sucks. A lot of times, the quality of your school affects what opportunities and classes are available, but most likely there is a program that can help you accelerate past normal program. I'd look into early college programs and tutoring outside of school. If none of that works, buy some books and study yourself. Princeton review has some ok AP books
How do you studying AP help if Iām not going to take the class?
Iām a little confused on your message
Any chance you could rephrase this?
Thereās 4000 students, Iāve never heard of anyone doing that. Like, Iām doing advanced stuff. The average freshman takes algebra, one or geometry, and Iām taking precalculus. They just donāt do aps fir freshman, and only AP gov for sophomore
Juniors and seniors to take any APs they want
So you have a couple options:
- Find a guidance counselor within your school and schedule a meeting to talk with them
- Find a program, tutor, or early college course that allows you to take Precalc outside of school
- Self study and take AP Calc later.
Iām taking pre-Calc! At the school! Itās just not AP
Oh. Well, you don't really need it perse.....
Also, I would not be able to take AP calc. If I take a sophomore year, assuming I take regular pre-Calc freshman year, I canāt take the ap version of calculus.
AP precalc is really just for people who are failing math. Generally most people will aim for AP Calc or AP stats. If you have any of these two classes, then you don't need ap precalc per se...
Oh I see
Do you not need to take pre-Calc? At all?
I'm not sure how your school works, but what you need is to create special accommodations for yourself.
?
OK, I think that thereās been some miscommunication, so let me try to just collect all of the information rq?
Sure
freshmen are not allowed to take any APs.
Sophomores may take AP government.
Juniors and seniors may take any AP courses they wish.
Iām not math, nor do I struggle with it. In fact, I am accelerated the average freshman, takes Audible and her geometry, correct? I am going to take pre-calculus freshman year.
If I take pre-calculus next year, as I intend to do, I will be on track to take calculus sophomore year. This means that I will not be allowed to take AP calculus, as that is not a course offered to sophomores.^ see above.
I intend to take AP government sophomore year, and take any APs. I am offered by junior and senior year.
Itās a fairly good school. Roughly 4000 people.
I'd just move schools to be honest.
I do not currently know what ECs will be offered, but I intend to take ones that fit with my major
Why?
You want to be able to take APs sophomore year
I'm planning on taking 4 APs in 10th
Are you sure? Itās a good school.
Please don't. Unless you are sacrificing both a social life and sleep, you won't function well enough to score well on all the tests
3 max I'd say
ones music theory calm down
Calculus is inherently an AP class, so if you take Calc, its going to be AP
AP music theory is hella hard still
Eh....
Nah, I am already studying it anyways
trying to double up science freshie year
Playing an instrument is literally a third of the curriculum. If you play jazz piano, that's ā of the curriculum right there. If you compose pieces as a kid, you can take the exam with your eyes closed
Clarinet with some piano lessons. I've made some like 30 second pieces for my talent show
...
This feels incredibly extreme. Is it really worth moving schools over? My dad is a teatcher for highschoolers and works closest college admissions officers and I just asked him and he said that he thought that the school was great.
Just having earn owners, and not offering APs really make that much of a difference to the point of moving schools?
I wouldn't talk with people on discord for this, since we don't know your situation as well as you do. Talk with your parents and other teachers near you
Where I live I can do that, but it really depends on you.
I was going to move schools to take German, but I decided against it so.
You don't have to move schools, you just need to know the right people
Iām confused period what do I need to aim for the Ives?
All A's, rigorous courses, high test scores, leadership in clubs, maybe some science fairs, starting and founding things, overall passion
High GPA, high SAT and PSAT scores, lots of extracurricular activity commitment, summer programs and internships, a writer's voice, passion, and also clear demonstration of subject interest
How much major in psycholinguistics, with a minor in literature. What kind of classes are they wanting for that?
And will I be in a disadvantage with the way my school system works?
It depends on the school and how competitive what your studying is. And probably not.
Which answer to which question?
Follow your passions; learn a world lang, creative writing, maybe found an after school club to make stories or characters
both
No, no, I know you answer both, but which answer goes to which question?
1 to 1 and 2 to 2
Got it.
if I wanted to let the Ivys, who is staying at my current school, taking pre-calculus freshman year and taking AP, literature and language, as soon as I can, as well as trying to get a leadership positions in clubs like world building building, dnd, conlanging,, linguistics, psychology, ECT as well as trying to have a passion project and possibly a recertification over the summer. Be good first steps/as much as I can do.
Sorry for the bad typing, on new keyboard layout
I already have my courses planned out myself
?
Taking h. geo as a freshie alg 2 and ap pre-calc as a soph ap stats as a junior and ap calc ab and bc as a senior
Anyone ever done geometry over the summer? I'm thinking about doing it over the summer so I can take algebra 2 as a freshman. Or what i could do is try to take them both at once.
Khan academy is great
Take it over the summer at most, taking algebra 2 and geometry together makes no sense
k
thanks
- for sophomore year should i take us gov in summer (will be general) or take honors us gov (one semester) or ap gov
- for junior shpuld i take us history in summer (general) or ap us history
or honors us history if ap us history is hard
the general usgov summer class is 12 days (3 weeks - 4 days each week) and general us history summer class is 24 days
Helps
hi
I am a senior
I want to major in business
nice
Itās just Iām not sure if algebra 2 honors is really hard
Because everyone says it is
But I want to do business
And thatās the way to go
English 9
Modern World History
Algebra 2 H
PE 9 + Health
Biology
okay so
I got my first be in Alge 2 H
however that was because I never took a math before that really
Oh ok
(Covid happened and we didnt have a math class for 2 years but on our transcripts it showed A
but basically
if you show up to class
pay a little bit of attention
and do 80% of ur homework
you will pass with a B or higher
I need help
Alrighty, what with?
Ok thanks
@wise forge hold on so your recommending algebra 2 honors? Because Iām doing geometry over the summer and my tutor said that gpa matters for freshmen year mainly
yeah I would
you can prob get an A if u put ur mind too it
i wouldn't be too concerned with GPA tbh, enjoy urself
get a B or two
I got a B in honors math 2 but then honors math 3 I got an A
calc bc rn got a B but its hard and i am taking 12 classes to graduate early so
im struggling to find a uni- Aussie edition
@solemn hamlet
do you have schools near you that have PCM + biology
does that even exist in CBSE
Mine does have it
hm
I have a question like genuinely idk the difference between cs and ce which do you think is better to get a job with
Hm?
Computer science and Computer engineering
Basically there is no difference, Computer Engineering might refer to the field within CS for engineering the actual parts of computers, with one specialisation being silicon engineering
So basically 'CE' is within CS
I see thank you
Been struggling to look for an undergrad diploma
It isnt hard
i hear its pretty light
but as always, it depends on the teacher
^
ā¬ļø
is AP Human Geo easy?
should i take partial IB or AP
Wdym š¤
Like choose your major/degree?
Choose which one's courses you like more
It's not usually a hard AP, but you should ask someone who took it with your teacher to know how they teach it in terms of homework load and other factors
okay thx
how much courseload can you handle?
How many APs are you taking right now?
What kind of college do you aspire to go to?
In my opinion, yes
Does comp sci a cover the same things as Engineering one? And should I take AP stats or engineering 1 first?
Yeah
does anyone here have experience doing a course on coursera
@solemn hamlet
So you need help with choosing your major?
@mossy stratus
AP engineering?
No just basic Engineering 1
That's just a course in your school
How can we know what it is š
I don't know it just says engineering one š
Then its engineering ii
And then you can either go into robotic or civil engineering
Yeah but that's not following any standard curriculum
Is that an elective
If so then just ask an upperclassman or counselor
AP CS A will get you a college credit for CS
Alr thanks
AP Stats or AP Human Geo for a filler course
With rest of courses being
- English 10 H
- AP Precalc
- AP Bio
- Research H
- AP World
- Study Hall (free block)
- AP Comp Sci A
- ????
ā¬ļø
Which do you want to do more
Stats
APHuG is generally considered an easy course, but ask someone who took the course from your teacher cus some assign a lot of homework with it
stats more useful
Not if you just don't do a stats related college major at all
It's generally also harder, they wanted a filler AP
4 ap in one year wtf
it gets worse
how hard is AP stats
you tryna reach harvard or some shit
lmao im doing 4 aps next year as well
- ap calculus bc
- ap physics c
- both mechanics and e&m (2 ap exam in one class)
- ap chinese
bro just listed three of the hardest ap courses available
this year i was taking 2 ap classes
ap calc ab and ap physics 1
calc ab was easy so im fine taking bc
you gonna major in physics?
what calc ab is easy
nice
i need the physics in order to do game dev stuff
makes sense
physics 1 is hard
indeed
but my teacher is cool asf
and it's calculus based
which i already know calculus and some physics
so it shouldn't be that bad
you wont get into harvard even if u take 20 APs https://cdn.discordapp.com/emojis/1171505591454285864.webp?size=64
i mean like
just from APs
oy - what should i major in if i wanna go into computer law (for my bachelors)
like law of computers and ai
Computer law
like law-making?
Do you guys know of any online linear algebra courses for high schoolers that offer college credit?
when's the best time to take ap stats. like before or after ap calc
what classes did everyone take their freshman year
Iām about to take: hon eng,hon alg II, biology, Japanese II, Ethnic/health(sem), and P.E.
im takin sci 10, math 10, french and pe
thats for second sem tho
Youre taking sopohmore classes?
10?
yea im in canada where its like 1 st semester dif classes and 2nd semester dif classes
like u do math 9 in sem one and if u do good at it u can take math 10 in sem two of grade 9
but ppl dont normally do it cuase they want ellective but idrc
so
For what reason?
Spend time on your extracurriculars and still take a rigorous courseload (8-12 APs)
my school only offers AP classes starting junior yr, which ones should I take?
I'd have finished bio and physics, alg 2 and precalc (calc outside of school) by the time I get to junior yr
what career do u want to pursue?
Idk, anywhere from finance to ornithology
how many aps are u planning on taking?
same
as many as possible
definitely take ap lang as that would help either career u go into and take ap stat, ap macro/mirco, ap calc, and ap bio
ALRIGHT BOYS- I'VE MADE UP MY MIND ON WHAT CLASSES TO TAKE NEXT YEAR
For core classes, we got 153/154 Precalc+ , AP Psych, AP CapSem, and Physics 111/112+
For electives, we got Store Ops, VComm II, and Photography+
Alternatives for electives we got Broadcasting+ , Intro to Business, and Personal Finance
keep in mind my school is strange on how they do things and the community college accepts a lot of stuff as credit so I'm getting cc for all of those classes
and the only one that has the usual AP exam for is AP psych
idk if it's all AP CapSem classes or just ours, but the AP exam is divided up into projects throughout the year so-
Hi, I am planning to take community college classes over the summer and I am aiming for competitive universities in the future. I am targeting a major in computer science so in addition to an Algorithms computer science class, what other class should I take over the summer? Should I take a GE course and if so, which one?
major related courses
Hey im taking the IB program next year, does anyone know if I should Econ Physics or Business HL
what would I need to suceed in those classes
Take the ib class that would be more useful for you in the future... business and economics would likely be useful if you want to be a business major when you're older
Iām sorry but wtf is Store Ops š
My first literal thought was that the class goes to a store each day, and plays irl Call of Duty Black Ops.
Thats the thing I dont know if I want to major in engineering or business
I just know I want to do something math related
is it possible to take calc ab and stats at the same time
Should I ask my teacher to recommend me to English honors or Ap seminar
and is it worth it if yes
If I do English honors then I could take ap lang senior year
But I donāt know what to pick
store operations?
couldnt u take both
yes and yes
its difficult tho
since its math obv and its an ap class
ap seminar
why do you need a teacher to recommend you for english honors
so what would you take in senior year if u dont do eng honors now
cause some sch ools do
if u take reg r smth
makes sense
I need teacher recommendations for moving up classes
But I meet the requirement like my teacher would recommend me
If I donāt do English honors then Iāll have to do ap seminar and follow it with ap research senior year
Or I can do English honors junior year and then senior year I do ap lang
Is AP Seminar and Research worth it for the AP Capstone Diploma?
Thatās what Iāve been thinking
In terms of college admissions or just to do the courses?
same u reminded me
They are two APs
Both
If you don't do eng honors, what will you do?
Ap seminar
The capstone diploma itself isn't a good addition to your app imo, but the two APs are
But in senior year? Another elective?
But then Iāll have to be committed to research senior year
Oh yeah do that then š¤
is it just me or is english kind of more important than ap sem and reearch
But I donāt know Iāve just been deciding because of like the college credit
Iām in accelerated English right now
Itās just the level under honors
But the level above regular English
thats so complicated
we have GT
english
which is higher than honors
combines AP history & AP english
But English honors will be one of my first honors classes @solemn hamlet
Honors is usually considered below AP
Have you taken any APs š¤
Man I hate school systems that restrict APs that much š
Itās not the restriction
I just donāt meet the requirements for some of them
But English I do
Right now the options for ap classes that I would be able to take are ap seminar and ap economics
@solemn hamlet
Do you think Iāll do fine in ap seminar as my first ap
Yes seminar isnt difficult, you might want to ask someone who took it tho, before making ur final choice
Seminar is hard
my friends from my old school are taking it
I wouldnāt suggest it as ur first ap
AP Lit AP Lang and AP seminar are all a bit similar idk which lit or lang is harder I think itās lang but yeah those three are tough
Like my friends are taking Pre AP classes for lit and lang
but seminar is hard I wouldnāt suggest it
My school doesnāt offer it personally but yeah Iād do some research from other peopleās experiences with it first before taking it
if itās ur only ap in freshman year im supposing it could be fine
yeah
what about the coursework
is it manageable
uhh
depends on teacher and school
overall its rigorous so expect at least 1-2 hours for hw minimum
unless ur fast
h
Lit is the worst of them
Any tips for these Course Selection (Freshman)
English 9 Honors
Math 2 Honors
Bio Honors
Biomed Honors
Global Studies/Health
Spanish 1
and P.E
how common is it for freshmen to take AP classes
isnt it not allowed for them to take ap or more than 1 ap?
most schools allow them to do one at most
Mine only allows AP HumanGeo/World in freshman year
and only 3 APs in Sophomore year
Hiiiiiiiasiaisaias
Anyays
so i got a question
Is it better to go to a more recognized college if the differnce is not that far
Like University of Michigan is Ranked 3 is finance
but MIT is ranked 5
Would it be better if i applied to MIT instead of Michigan?
Would this be a good path of classes to do junior year then senior year
Hi
Can someone help me
English 9h algebra 1
Bio honors
Mcjrotc
Spanish 1
Need help choosing elective
Can you skip a level ahead in math
for ninth?
Well what are you interested in
Yeah
and what college do you want to go to
do you have option to take aphug
He dosent need to think about that yet
Yes technically. But I have to take summer school
thought he was in diff grade mb
Smt in medical field
Ok thatās good
Hmm
are you okay w doing that bc i would rec
Do you have sociology
?
Do that or like
ap human geo
Do you have a list of electives
Why
He wonāt even get credit with that
In the medical field
if he wants to
I have it.
i mean itās up to you
Which are tough so thatāll show the rigor of your courses yk
do you have a list of electives
ye fs
Hereās the choices
also whatās āmcjrotcā
Marine corps junior reserve officers training
@lyric flame Your message(s) have been flagged as spam and have been removed.
oh thatās cool
Thatās it?
Did you do spanish in middle school
whatās ell?
and you need a language credit so i would do that
wtv language you want
Spaish
English learning
Bio med
why do u have algebra 2-1
what does that mean
Can I take AP physics 1 next yr while doing Precalc in sophomore year and then take mechanics and e and m junior yr while taking bc calc
i mean you can, 2 physics, especially hardest physics in one year is crazy.
I just want to know if itās possible especially taking the calculus while learning calculus
gonna be hard
take hardest classes, there not even hard
put in the work
Is it possible tho cuz i wanna major in physics/awrospace
is ib gonna help for uni?
Just accelerated algebra
The level above regular
The label is like different
is there any tips for information system freshman?
Like regular algebra is
Algebra 2-2
Accelerated is algebra 2-1
And honors would be like algebra 2-H
At my school accelerated is just level 1 and regular is level 2
Yes
Also why did u put for apes (if iām able to hopefully i can)
Because I still have to meet the requirements for it
I need a certain score on the sat
Wow iāve never seen this
No I have not
But would this be a good path to follow
Like are the courses rigorous enough
holy all that for learning 7th grade science š
Itās kind of annoying
Yeah take all the honors you can, IF you can take aps take them
If I showed you all the other requirements for the other science apās you would be mad
I speak with my physics teacher because sheās my neighbor and she says she hates it to
Like why so much requirements for apes
Itās apes
Apes
yeah itās so easy
fr
If someoneās interested to take the class just let them do it
I hate the stupid criteria
Lmao yeah
aight
If u take pre calc you should take ap pre calc
i heard itās easier then normal in most schools
Just branch out first year see what u like
So if I donāt end up skipping pre calc your saying I should do ap pre calc
yes
The only req for ap pre calc is a B+ or higher in accelerated algebra 2
But that shouldnāt be too bad
iām in algebra 2 rn
yeah Iāll def try
itās pretty easy
I want to skip pre calc tho
i think you can do it
And go to calculus 1 honors
itās a lot easier then geometry imo
I have good grades this year
nice
like how bad
Not that bad
nice work man!!
Remember the more work you put in the higher grade you will get
But anyway
Adding potentially ap pre calc to senior year
Would that be decent rigor of courses
@sullen hearth
yeah
so
like
if you take harder classes but get a B that is still much better then taking an on level course and getting an A
Even in an accelerated course
Itās just the level above regular
But the level under honors
iām not too sure about accelerated cuz idk what that is
Itās still pretty rigorous
oh uhh maybe
Itās just like algebra 2 but instead I would be doing algebra 2-1 which is level 1
Way faster pace
Pretty much thatās it
Regular algebra 2 is level 2
Also does 4 years of spanish look good or doesnāt really matter
honestly i think youād should take all honors if you can. Because like you only got 2 years left might as well challenge yourself
yeah thatās rlly good
I canāt really do some other honors classes
I wonāt meet the requirements for them
Do you think I can pull off like an A- or higher in alg 2-1
Because then the teacher will def recommend to an honors math class senior year
Ik
yeah, if you meet the reqs for alg 2 honors take it. It is fairly easy
And like also if you ever get stuck with like homework, or you donāt know how to do something you can always ask, or look up youtube videos. There is like a video for every concept
Wait are you not taking any calculus
š¤
I would do that
itās just I have to get the algebra 2 grade of a B+ or higher
yeah
what are you trying to become btw
cuz a general rule is to take classes that are somewhat similar for your major
Something related to science
thatās why Iām taking chemistry honors
mk then calculus is definitely helpful
Also like the fact that your school has APs but you couldn't take them š¤
thereās like a whole resume of requirements for APES š
Some of them require sat scores and I just havenāt gotten them yet
SAT SCORES?
Or psat scores
Iām not sharing that
Look @solemn hamlet
It's a rhetorical question š
Like an exclamatory statement
Crazyy š
What
Why do you need an sat score for a science class š
Itās one of the requirements
You donāt need it like
ONE?
I know lmao
But like the sat has 0 science
i thought u just to fufill one of the requirements
Math score
wait i want to see that
the requirements
One second
kk
Are you defending this garbage š
No I hate it
Others in my chem class hate it too lol
You don't need to take the sat to do apes
Kids do it in freshman
CALCULUS FOR CHEMISTRY?
cuz at my school
They literally just have a set curriculum for the students
u dont need calc for ap chem
Do this, do that
I know but like in terms of the school they're in
Calc for ap chem is just unnecessary like there is no reason to ask for it
I hate the criteria so much
But so is the sat for apes
i already picked my classes for sophomore year, what should i take for junior?
Benchmark scores on standardised science assessment š
They just typed out some jargan using keyboard auto complete or smth
What classes are you taking
For sophomore year
uh
Dude I hate it so much honestly
What is this standardised science assessment š¤
Just like state testing
But thatās back in 8th grade
ap precalc, ap chem, apes, apush, eng 2 honors, ap seminar, and floral design
š
Loading on the APs
Like in 8th grade you do state testing for English, science and math
Dude holy
Calc in junior is great
Say goodbye to sleep
Nah cuz like aps arenāt even hard though ngl
and chemistry is easy for me
How are you doing ap seminar and English honors
Help me
Yeah really depends but in terms of the coursework
pre calc shouldn't be considered an AP ever either
a english fulfillment
Ohh
Idk yeah some schools make ap seminar and research and English course/ replacement afaik
iām not worried for any class next year. And i love the person who teaches ap chem she is actually a good teacher
In junior year i gotta take calc Ab cuz ab is a requirement for Bc
Also what are you doing in terms of ECs š¤
but ima ask my counselor if i should skip it
Eh
I donāt think you should skip it tbh
If the school asks u to take both
Your already ahead in math
They probably go above BC in BC
Cus BC is otherwise only a semester worth of maths If you stretch it over AB
Not much honestly iām just in a few clubs and i play basketball for the school
Why š
but like
Why are you taking so many APs then
Yeah but
cuz i want to
You need ECs for state schools too š
I mean depends on what you want to do
Check #extracurriculars pins, basically, any passion projects, internships, research, competitions, awards/ honors, and leadership, but it all depends on impact
Btw
A club can be a good EC if you lead it and do a lot within it, but just participating isn't
If I started like a chemistry club
Would that look good
For colleges
Or not really
iām in NHS as well if that counts š
š
Again, depends on the quantifiable impact
does working a job do anythin
Kinda but idk much about the impact of internships
You could list out stuff like if you hosted events and had a good participation numbers, if students from outside the club came and enjoyed the events too, if you held friendly competitions and taught the members a bit about advanced topics or smth
What are some good ecs if I wanna do something related to science in college
Basic ideas but just starting a club is pretty overused if I'm gonna be honest
Like I said, pretty much anything can be good
š
In terms of science, you might want to theme your application or have that related to your spike, and yeah, your admissions officer being able to tell your major from your extracurriculars is good, but it doesn't have to all be related
lowkey in just takin a bunch of aps cuz i like to push & challenge myself
Yep, and going to a competitive uni is pushing and challenging yourself š¤
I kind of want to do business honors society
It is, though i donāt want to go far from home for uni.
Other than science I like economics and stuff
Then you have to be even better š¤
Well depends
wdym
How selective are unis near you like
My state school got more selective lol
Because everyone just applys thinking itās a safety school
I live in texas, there good schools without being extremely competitive
Again, that might actually not be a great add if your application doesn't already lean towards science, plus for an honors society, it's hard to add impact š¤
like iād happily go to U-T Austin or Texas Tech
Fair enough then
I got decent ecās I think for science
Iām in biology club and Iām getting a leadership position in may for next year
Lowkey Rice is close to home. I might try getting into that if i get some sort of scholarship
I got a couple more but
And what impact do you have within the club?
Too lazy to write
Oooh rice
We have two rice grains here in this discord
wdym
Like rice students
oh cool
Neko
Neko oniisama and moosama
Iād honestly rather go to texas a&m then texas tech
Stop talking someone finna triangulate where you live
4chan users š
Did anyone take Im3adv and IB Math aa HL
guys is this a heavy load
yes
any xhanges do u rcomened
lit is
O
its cuz i havenāt taken any aps before cuz school didnt offer
and now uh
new place
so i can
but idk if thatās too much
any changes
so you have to deal with these classes, your new school, and maybe ecs?
prob
will be in 11th
lmao
Is it ok if I don't take any APs freshman year
Yes
Do you want to go to a T20? How many are offered at your school?
Yo I found out a course that Iām gonna take in high school and that is Spanish 3 which is like the highest course u can take as a freshman but if I take Spanish 3 then Iāll only complete three years of a language and 4 years is best if I want to get into other colleges that I want like the Ivy League Schools. In order to do that I have to take Spanish 2
Which one should I take Spanish 2 or Spanish 3?
Should I take AP Spanish Lit
or is it kinda useless and should I just take AP Spanish Lang
take Spanish 2
Ok
i didn't even know that was an AP
Whats the best major to become a anylst
cuz i wanna become a financial manager
The big 2 is Buisness and Economics
3rd is like Finance
but Buisness is a very large category so i'm kinda stuck
yea t20 but like I might do ap over summer
are u a native speaker
What AP/honor courses should I take in high school to get into MIT if I wanna become a neurologist/ study brain science ir biology in college
What should I double major in if I wanna be a neurologist (brain doctor) or just a doctor
Well, extracurriculars matter more, it should be fine if you don't, although i wouldn't recommend it
Yeah that's why I'm saying it
Doing APs and not doing ECs makes no sense to begin with, if APs mean you can't do ECs, don't do APs, but there are a lot of APs which aren't that difficult, not all of them are ap bio or ap calc BC š
feel like that last one is a personal preference
Are you saying APES is more difficult than AP Calc š¤
probably for someone
For most people š¤
Sophomore looking at pre-med (surgery), I have the space for AP Bio or AP Chem in senior year, which one should I take
For context Iāve taken all Honors and APs so far
Iāve had tons of doctors and med students tell me it doesnāt matter, some of them even get Comp Sci degrees, as long as you have the knowledge and training required for the MCAT
Ohhh
Thanks
AP Chem, AP Bio, AP Stats, and AP Calc are pretty good for neuroscience
The sodium potassium pump + related ions are extensively covered in AP Chem, and are needed for neuron signal transmission
Sorry for going off-topic, just giving an example
Guess who got into a Diploma in business
is Stats a really easy AP
Not for most people
Im taking it as my first AP and im finding it kinda easy
depends on ur teacher + ur own aptitude for stats, but u might just find every other ap easy too
Why ru asking if u find it easy but asking if it is easy
š
wait what does "class of 2025" mean? do i get my degree in 2025 or do i pass out of 12th grade?
No im asking if its generally considered as a difficult class
Might be my teacher, hes been teaching it for a while
i hate stats
what part of it
