i just dont know what to choose in terms of AP Lang and AP Lit
also would like some feedback with AP art and whether or not its hard
ap lang is really gonna help you with writing in college. I was told by my counselor that she’s had students who would do better in college writing just from remembering what they did in ap lang
honestly idk i’ve heard better things about ap lang that ap lit
i haven’t taken either yet but i plan to
ap lang i hear people hating it and people loving it but i’ve only ever heard people complain about ap lit
it depends
do you like writing or reading/literature more
you might want to ask someone who has taken both classes
ah
ill just ask this again later then
when there's more activity
thanks for you help
yeah ofc
Freshman Schedule:
- English Honors 9
- Honors Biology
- Honors Chemistry
- AP World History
- Financial Literacy/Health
- Spanish II
- Honors Algebra II
with all of these how much homework will I get?
all depends on schools
anyone took childhood growth and devlopment class? is it diffuclt?
is ap psycology and ap statics good to take for sophmore? any advice for classes i should take in sophmre
the funnier part is there are two different lunch courses
ap stats requires alg 2 knowledge
im taking alg 2 that same year so would that work? or would that just be very stupid
easy
hmm
does the pre-ap history substitute as civics?
at least here, in 8th grade, we take civics
also, what kind of history is it?
i would do honors ela, as you may learn things that would benefit you for high school, but it is mainly your choice
varies
You can’t do both?
id do ela
its weird u cant do both??
ela gives useful skills
u can do ap history without a pre ap
yeah, id imagine you are required english and history
guys do you think my schedule is managebal
becuase i felt like i overloaded myself
so like im doing sophmore next year
and I'm starting a mock trial club, in varsity debate, planning on joining HOSA, also palnning on becoming officer of 2 clubs. but i felt like i took too many ap classes for thsi year. I ahve AP Precalc, AP stats, AP psych, and (maybe) ap world history
i feel like im going to overload myself ngl
😦

also before you comment on the ap precalc im forced to take it because our school needs the moeny

on the side note algebra 2 is very very fun
🤓 ☝️
Is DE english 12 easier than ap lit?
Quiet
👩⚖️
the work load for ap psych rly isnt that much and same for ap world but i guess that depends on ur teacher 😭 i think it’s definitely doable but maybe limit to 3 aps
yea tru tru
but a lot of stuff isnt confirmed yet
so i m scared for the summer lol
Hello! Im an upcoming 9th grader and I have a really in-depth knowledge of Computer Science. My HS offers APCSP and APCSA to 9th graders, and I'm 90% sure I'm fine for APCSA. Ive already asked my counselors, but my question was the only one not answered. Any thoughts?
CSP isn't even actual coding
CS A isn't a difficult class either, but you do have to write code on paper, at least in the final AP test
Yea, i saw that on the past student exams. Strange but doesn't seem too hard
Thanks!
should i take APHG or AP Psych
Which are you more interested in? HuG is also considered a pretty easy class, but you should probably choose based on your interest
Basic or standard maths?
Standard then
I'm not sure on it, i score like 60-65/80 in maths
Csa easy asl
I came in with no coding experience and I’m doing fine
The hardest thing there is probably either recursions or arraylists
Yes cs a is easy
Aphug has a huge ass work load
This shi killing me ngl
It's hard for some tho
Yeah
The work load is horrendous though
I meant cs a
i also need advice]
is it better to do subjects you're good at or subjects that you like? If you could only choose one
Well, if you're good at something now, that doesn't mean you will be good at it on a higher ldvel too
Depends on the subject
If the subject is related to your career plan, and you like it, just take it
You will improve and get better eventually
Hello guys please I'm going to study computer engineering in uni, can i study the software part of engineering as a computer engineer???
Please figure out what these terms mean
i mean ofc aphg
i like geography
this scares me tho
the workload also depends on your teacher doesn't it
aphug was legit the easiest hard class ive ever taken, i stopped taking notes in that class after like unit 4 and got a 5
Should I do alg 2 over the summer
Yea it’s easy asf
i thought it was a lot of information
How do I know if engineering is the right path for me? I like math but I have no common sense. When I think of engineering, I think of building and building stuff requires some common sense.
Unfortunately I don’t meet the requirements for internships and summer programs
Are there age requirements for these summer programs
Sorry, I meant job shadowing
Oh ok
I’ve tried reaching out to someone that works a Boeing but they said no. There’s also a Volvo manufacturing place, do you think they would also have engineers there?
Specifically mechanical engineering
I don’t know any other engineering businesses
Wait do you think I can find job shadow opportunities at job fairs?
Thanks for the help
Wait a minute
I don’t even have a car 😭
most people don't
Anyway I can take AP Italian over the summer?
There's an ap italian????
Yes
Lots of languages
I'm in Spanish III
But I would like to learn italian
Ik I can't just sttaight up take it, but I would like to know how I can do it online before I get ready
I want to take AP japanese👍
Yea
hello i want to be a doctor in the future but right now i am taking igcse's so i do not know what subjectsi should choose preferably
I wish there was an AP Korean
can i have help?
Idk
Same :/
Ap bio?
And AP calc
AP Chem maybe?
im assuming since theyre taking igce they dont have APs i think right
Is it too much to take AP Chem AP CSA AP World and AP Precalc all in one year
Probably
its a heavy load
does DE classes count towards GPA?
and is it usually taken during the weekdays or weekends?
is de and dc the same thing? if so is it only semeseter long or whole year
dual credit
I didn’t take any ap classes freshman and sophomore year. Next year I’m taking ap precalc, APUSH, and ap bio. I don’t know if I should do ap lang or lit bec I don’t like English as much even though I have a 96 in honors right now, my teacher even said she would recommend ap lit for me and I had her for both 9th and 10th grade. Plus English for some reason takes a lot of time for me outside of school so I’m a bit scared of the workload outside of class on top of ap bio and the others. Later in college I know I want to do either pharmacy or medicine. Any recommendations?
def stick to ap bio and consider taking ap lang (imo) cause thats definitely gonna help u write ur essays for colleges and lowkey the psats at least for me, and if not ur junior than senior
Should I still take lang junior year even though I’m also taking ap precalc and APUSH with ap bio? I’m worried that it may be too much for junior year from going from no aps to 3-4 aps
well do you manage your work load well and know when to prioritize?
i strongly recommend u do ap lang its soo helpful
like probably the best ap and most useful ive ever taken
A bit, some juniors I talked with said that junior year is when it forces you to have good habits and usually I’m on top of my work for honors classes
oh definitely fss, what aps are u gonna take senior year?
Prob ap calc ab (maybe bc if i do good in precalc), ap chem, most likely some sort of English ap since it’s either that or an ECE course, and maybe ap stats if i have room in my schedule
hmm this is difficult cause like u could realistically do ap lang or lit senior or junior year 😭
but i still would take it junior yr
The only thing I’m skeptical about ap lang is a counselor came to talk about courses and she said only take ap lang if ur fine with getting at most a B for the first quarter or two
yeahh there’s alot of work load thats for sure, & if youre concerned thatll ruin your gpa then maybe dont take it. but the things u learn in there is useful fs
the inside of the earth is really really hot and theres lava coming out of it constantly, but cooling when its in the ocean, pushing the rest of the sea floor outwards, pushing the other tectonic plates with it, thus why the sea floor moves apart constantly because there is always new material becoming a part of the sea floor
for sure
theres prolly youtube vids that explain it better than me at 11pm on a wednesday tho
is AP precalc worth it? I suck at math but i heard its easier than reg precalc
from what teachers have told me and my friends in precalc, its a little less content than regular precalc that moves at a slightly faster pace, but its all the same stuff. if you want the GPA boost then i would take it because its not much harder, but its about your comfort level with a fast class
because the new material is always flexible enough to get pushed and keep expanding, and the old stuff goes back in and gets reused
mmhmm
it can go jump off a cliff
wrong place to help w science 😭
dw about it, its chill
i will worry tho #staysafe
ok pal
bro called me pal
Wut is going on
I'm having trouble picking a course
for university
@wise forge
if I'm allowed to ping you
🤡
Elaborate please
I recently dropped out of a diploma in photography because it was already teaching me stuff I already knew from a photography course last year
Hm
and im trying to look for pointers in where to go next
hm. well college isn't nessesary needed to succeed
you could just start working
you could find a trade
etc
I like the student envrioment
@solemn hamlet I know what you mentioned in another chat
Well, would a degree in photography even be worth it?
This is what I was talking about
Does a career in photography require a college education?
If you want to go to college, getting a degree for a backup or alternative career might be a better choice
A university is just a group of colleges
point is, im looking for something else
Like just a course in photography
completely different course
like a vocational type course?
?
Like instead of being lectured, a course that actually teaches photography skills?
I said I wanted to do something completely different
Ok so like I said even earlier
it was in another chat
No it wasn't 💀
We can't help you if you're not clear with wat you need help with
I'm sorry, I don't think it's possible for me to help.
because u lack information?
That and more
what information do you lack?
thankyou guys but what does the "AP" in front of subjects mean?
im confused
has anyone taken A level sciences here?
is it hard to catch up?
AP --> Advanced Placement, a higher level course that gives you college credit if you take those classes in college and looks good in college apps
ok thankyou
heyaaaaa
i wanna do game development as my profession or some kind of software development.
someone suggest me some exams, universities and other stuff ig
Idk about game development but you could try tech unis like stanford
It might have game development
Do you want crunches and terrible work life balance?
mhm
my choice bruv. im just following my passion
Answer the question tho
Game dev is a terrible industry to work in 🫄
if it means following my passion and doing what i love... then im sure i would do those too lol
yh 80hrs doing wht i love rather than some shit 9to5 job...is much better and idk much more appealing to me
yh but after a gaining some experience at a higher level
mhm
So like working for a company and then starting your own studio?
yh
Seriously more power to you
7 to 7 would make me wanna kms
lol u lazy af then 🙂
💀
where u from
I just want a life
thats wht everyone wants isnt it
Why would I want to work for that much time
but requires hardwork nd some of those 80hrs workweeks
do the hard work first in my opinion to relax later
80 hour workweeks getting you a life is serious bs imo
Anyways, best of luck to your endeavours
thanx bruhh
Idt game studios have that many benefits
which country r u from tho
Why does that matter
India
Like you yes
If you still wanna do game dev, probably best to stick to indie studios btw
yh ill consider that..thanx
As my roles say, rising sophomore (10th grader)
oh
Like rising 10th grader
atb for ur boards then
oh like u just got into 10th ryt?
Yeah
oh cool
Need more luck rn
stay calm nd study evryday bruv
dont stress on the little things
thats wht i learned from my 10th grade exp
I have admissions results to American High schools releasing on 10th 💀
It's not exactly a little thing
ah thats gr8
which one
Philips Academ(ies) and Groton 😔
But in my defense I have an 8-9-9-9 isee
And my other stuff is good too 😞
Exeter's got 50% aid students tho
source: trust me bro
believing everything you see is wild
😡
So, i need to choose a course next year, and I have no idea which one. I was thinking somtheing like a technology course like programmer or mechatronics
opinions?
Like, any course? Do you not have any options to choose from?
I have 2 course in the school i want to go to that match up with these. Sorry for diffrent language, I'm not in UK anymore. They translate to informatics technictian- Sisytems, and the other is Programmer
Like a vocational University?
Yeah
guys is it mandatory to opt for a foreign language in high school to get into an ivy league
Check common data set
But usually yes
ok so my high school is asking me to choose either hindi or spanish/french to study in high school. Hindi is easy but I feel the other two languages will provide me w better opportunities. can u guys pls help me coz im freaking out
which one do you like the most
Doesn’t really matter
I would recommend doing something you’re familiar with
i wanna do spanish tbh
do spanish
but i hv heard that learning foreign languages will provide me w more opportunities
Source?
idk lol
id do spanish imo
spanish isnt bad
just put in some extra effort and you will do good
hi so im going to be in 10th grade next year and my school offers the IB diploma in 11th+12th grade. however to eligible I need to do physics and chemistry next year. doing 2 sciences would take up an elective spot, and i was planning on doing APCSP. i'm not too sure about the diploma, any recommendations? also how much of an impact does the IB diploma make on college admissions
If you're doing IB, don't expect to be doing many APs (maybe 1-2 if you're lucky)
to get your diploma, you need 3 SL and 3 HL classes along with TOK. Depending on your schedule, you may be able to squeeze in an AP here and there, but the program is built in a way that it's self-sufficient to colleges
It's on the level, if not harder, than AP classes
it's up to you whether you want to do it - make sure to weigh many other factors too
try asking some upper classmen how their experience is as it varies school to school
So next year i'm not taking english in my senior year due to me getting thjat credit through another class will that disatvange me to not take english my senior year?
what u replacin it with
i'm taking ap calc, ap comp sci, spanish 3, and civics my senior year and a vocational school for cs half of my day, (i';m apllying cs)
i konw i'm getting the english credit
Guys should I pick leadership 9 or intermidiate band 9?
Will just taking the AP test for a course count as taking a course to colleges (assuming i get a 4 or 5)? My school does this thing where we can just study on our own for a course and take the AP test with everyone else in may.
do i regret choosing ib
Are books like Barron’s and Princeton reviews more for practice questions or classroom instruction?
yea you can take as many AP tests as you want
practice questions
Is this good for my sophomore year?
Honors English 10
Honors Algebra 2 & 3
Spanish 3
AP World History
Chemistry
1 Semester Classes: Drama 1, Intro to CS, Sports Skills or Gym, and International Relations
Our requirements are 4 years of English, 4 years of Math, 3-4 Years of Science, 3.5 Years of Social Studies, somehow no official world language requirement, but 2 years recommended.
its ur standards bro
if u think it fits ur time management frame and all that
ur fine
no need to ask people on here
what is algebra 3???
i think intermediate algebra?
is alg 1 and 2 beginning alg?
ive never heard of 3
usually u move to precalc or calc
my aops apparently has algebra 3
and it's also named intermediate algebra
algebra B is Algebra II
at least in my aops
if alg 2 and 3 are seperate classes dont do it, but if theyre continuations during the year then its ok
Guys I have a question about high school, so currently I am attending 8th grade and I am in Math 1 (9th grade Math). I don't go to the high school and will this course count towards my high school GPA
the credits, while they wont count towards GPA still give you graduation credits
it carries over on your transcript that you took high school level classes in 8th grade
i dont think so, but im not sure about your specific school
Ok so, my school has a website ok and they haven't updated their stuff
so during covid time
they said it would go towards the transcript
since students are coming to the high school
but we don't go to the
high school anymore
it goes on the transcript not the GPA
ok ty
i also took 9th grade math as a 8th grader and it didnt count towards my hs gpa
so i want some help
im just now finished 10th and enter 11th
i like chem and maths but i am ok with phy
i have told the school people that i want cs+pcm or pcbm..
both has phy in it and i want help if phy is really hard in 11th
ok thanks for letting me know
ofcc
personally i didnt think physics was that hard its alot of algebra concepts, u just have to apply them
But what if I don’t score well enough in Spanish coz Hindi is like way easier
You can use Spanish more in the world
Im taking calc 1 currently at a ccc, but also plan to take ap calc bc with getting a 5 incase i need to transfer to a private school.
If i have so many transferable credits i could get a bachelors degree in 2 years at a csu or uc. Did I just screw myself over a semester?
What do you mean? Like you don't have enough credits?
are you in CBSE? The curriculum for hindi sucks, even if it's easier, it's useless
I'd recommend a foreign language.
but also , remember, personal prefrence and it depends on what the person wants to do. I dont want to take spanish because i wont use it because I want to study french history
theres not one formula for success
I meant that since ap calc bc is calc 1 & 2. Id just be learning it again
cant you just use that credit to skip calc 2 then?
I could, but I could also just finish calc 2 in 1 semester instead of taking ap calc for 2 semesters
Do that then
Just Drop the ap if it's not helpful
Okay
hey! does anyone have advice on whether to take bio AP or calc AP if i want to go into a biomed program? i can only fit one in my schedule and i most likely wouldn’t use either to audit the uni class but i was wondering which one would be more helpful.
i mean its just a fact that there are a lot of spanish speakers around the world
I would go bio tbh
Med revolves A LOT on bio
Like a lot more than you think
Calc you will continue and learn so much more about in college
Definitely take a calculus class however in high school!!!
Like honors or regular levels
*level
Preferably honors
Which is harder APUSH or APUSGOV
I would recommend you to take AP Bio
It covers a lot of the basic knowledge you’ll need to know for biomed
ap bio really
i mean its in the name
why is that a question
bro i swear half these ppl just ask w/o thinking first 😭
whats the difference between macroeconomics and microeconomics
yeah
Macro focuses on large entities such as corporations, governments, and international agencies, while micro focuses on smaller entities such as small businesses, individuals, and more
oh
APUSH is a hella a lot worse than gov
I feel that you should take gov over apush unless you want to be a us history or sum 💀
It could be beneficial to learn about the government and how it works to develop a better understanding in politics
Plus way easier AP than APush
nah apuhs is a requirement for most hs for graduation
No it’s not
Regular US history is
I’ve never taken either courses before
Guys should I pick leadership 9 or intermidiate band 9?
is ap bio reasonably self-studiable?
a lot of people I know have been saying they despise the ap stats course, but I've never taken it so idk for sure
Nahhh regular history is, no school would require an AP level for graduation that’s stupid.
Could band possibly be done outside a daily class environment?
Like does your school hold rehearsals during before school hours, lunch, or after school?
That way you could do both somehow.
yeah i forgot cuz most just take apush
band if you are good
easy class to self study?
and is there ways i could take ap classes online or any type of classes online during summer? my high school only does few classes in person that are gerneral level
Well, you could look at dual enrollment
yes
Then choose those related to your major, wdym easy?
idk honestly
What major are you taking? Do you know? There isn't exactly much point to a macro economics credit if u take cs
Then decide
ok
4 years will pass in a flash
do u know which ap classes tho will alllow me to skip general ed classes
same for dual credit
it differs for each college
right
like ill have to take most of my gen eds if not all of them at some of the colleges im looking at
it depends on the AP exam and the score you get on it too
yea
Does anyone who took APES recommend it for my freshman year? I heard it's not too bad
Yea its easy
its like 7th grade science 💀
is it worth taking it?
apes?
yes
yes, unless you have a better ap to substitute
(by better, something more related to your major)
ok ty
if anybody here has taken ap bio how difficult would you say it is for a freshman?
or should i do honors bio first
😭 trust
?
compsci p
🗿
i was gonna replace honors bio w ap bio because errrr. why not
yes donit
we love aps
THAT DID NOT ANSWER MY QUESTION AT ALL?
depends on teacher
u could alwyas drop to honors id u think it’s too hard
doesn't that look bad
he said yes
i asked how hard it was
ok
and i said yes
that answers it completely and fully
idk what ur on rn

yall cant expect to ask an opinionated question and get a thorough response lol
if i took ap bio and thought it was hard ill tel you that
but johnny make have taken it and thought it was easy and tell you that
take the classes that you are confident that you will do well in with your capabilities
johnny is him
do you think you can take an AP class freshman year?
if so then great, go ahead and take it
you can look these courses up on khan academy or youtube to see how tough they are
oo u right okok
try to see if you can follow along with these videos
how are u able to take ap bio in freshman???
asking very nicely
u cant take compsci principles until 11th here 😭
I'm finna lose my lead here cus people are bullying me out of helping 😔
??
lmao!!!
Well I'm not American but I've heard about the courses from people, chatting here and other places 😔
I am almost always right, and when I'm not, it's not exactly a mistake that an American can not make
Well enough with my rant 😞
Yeah csp in 11th is crazy
India
oh
Btw ru in hs rn? Cus then your grad year role'd be wrong
Rising freshman or like rising sophomore after this summer?
oh i didnt wanna put it but ill just put it now
other is for people who are NOT old enough to be on discord 💀
rising sppphmore
You could instead just not get a role
Other suggests ur below 8th grade right now
i didnt wanna put it cuz i thought itd be young to be in this server and 9th rn but i figured majority is in 9th
so
Yeah everyone is freshman tbfh
yea
It's the time when everyone plans out their ECs and everything
oh wait you're not from the US?
im from the uk
and
i want to do ppl at warrick
what do i pick for gsces
ppl is politics philosophy and law
not like i had many options
my only options were advanced in everything, language (not rly cuz i picked last year) and percussion ensemble
my school used to do that but removed earth science in 8th grade and shifted everything back
alebgra 2 honors
i am too
i mean next yr
agreed tbh
yeah
im in coordinate geometry rn its like prove that something is a certain shape based on the coordinates of the points
i wonder what classes gohar and madan took😂
calc 3 freshman fr
oh we just finished our trig unti and now we are doing similar triangles
frrrr
for me its trig last unit and similar triangles next
yes
ab or bc if epik
Idk my senior cuz my school doesnt offer bc
goofy
schools usually do both
what i dm madah/ gohar and be like what classes did u take😂
I’ve finished 2 years of it
if you want to become fluent, are good at it, and the language has some practicality then its good to do
what abt college?
but majorly lacking any of those three i personally wouldn’t
i think colleges like when u do 4 years
some have a requirement idk exactly
What if I do 3 years?
how many years can you do and what the highest level course
for me its Language I-IV then AP so 5
I’m just taking it for college honestly
but if you dont have intention of learning the language then i wouldnt do it
but then again colleges like 4 years
all honors
if you do 4 years for that might as well try to learn and remember it (be bilingual) in the process
true ig
if you travel you can use it, you can show jobs you can speak it pretty well
True
most colleges make you take usually 1 year of a foreign language unless you AP out of it
Geometry High Honors, Bio Honors, Mandarin Honors, Intro to Lit Honors, World History Honors, Religion CP (I go to private catholic school)
wanted to take pre calc but my school didnt allow me. The algebra 2 kids are the guys that took it in 8th grade. Im taking algebra 2 over the summer to catch up
This is my schools gpa scale
Do you think an A- in a level or B+ in honors would look letter? B+ is worth more on gpa scale, but it’s not straight As, so I think A- in a level might be better
Please ping me or I won’t see the messages, thanks!
colleges will weigh those types of classes differently anyway yeah
APs are generally considered out of a 5.0 and honors out of a 4.5
but if you're in a public school than an in-state public university might consider the B+ in honors to be better
How would this 4 year course plan work out? Not worried about homework or tests, just wondering if there are any more useful classes to take instead
loading up on APs
Yeah, probably a very good course plan
Thanks, there's a fianancial literacy and health/p.e requirement so I have to take those too
Are there any other more benficial courses as opposed to the ones I shared?
well, you're covering almost every AP already
and the courses you generally take in hs dont matter beyong what you need for the diploma and college admissions
Thanks
you've got 2 years of history, 4 years of a foreign language, and math and science, so you're probably all good
I thought I had 4
Because apush, ap world, ap gov, and ap psych
right?
Yeah, 4 years of humanities courses, i dont really think universities consider those under history though
and wait
you dont have euro history
Do u need that?
it might be better to have it
It's not required under our school courses?
I'll consider that then
yeah but some colleges like it if you take an year of euro history
ivies and stuff
ur right
ill look into it
What class should I cut to add euro history?
might be more rigorous, but still beneficial, to replace one of your humanities-ish courses in junior or senior year with euro history if you can, just to have the best possible hs curriculum
well, i wouldnt recommend cutting any of the science courses
or the two history ones
or maths or spanish
But besides that you could be fine replacing any of them
is ap art history easy or difficult
medium but i need it for fine arts credit unfortunately
ahh
just dont think its a very popular course lmao, dont see too many people taking it
what about ap csp? its a pretty easy course but its also p useless
yeah thats true, but i need to take it for cs a
hmm yeah i thought your school might ask for that
Are you trying to get into a top college?
What about us gov? I'm pretty sure its one of the easier APs but it doesnt seem like you can change much more
Alright
make sure to plan your ECs properly
get some international level ECs, and with these courses, you're probably golden
Thanks, I will but I'm pretty expierenced in most of my ecs
yeah
going to nationals for quizbowl and went to internationals for fpspi
nice
but in hs its much more competitive so ill need to spend much more time
a semester of us gov is required unfortunately
do all ivies require euro history @solemn hamlet ?
They don't require it, but like you want to do what ivies want you to ofc
ok
like they recommend
should i cut out pysch or stats maybe?
If you want to major in a history thing, then its probably beneficial
Like ill put it this way
I believe I have met some people who are going to harvard without taking the course but I think Harvard prefers the course to be taken
An ivy would less likely accept someone planning on majoring in premed or something if they took 15 aps that were mainly history and english based than someone who took 10 or 12 aps that were science based
you can go to an ivy without a foreign lang, but that doesnt mean you shouldnt, cus it might hurt your chances
there arent even that many
but no that isnt even that factually correct
if someone has med related ECs
and have no med APs but other APs
like national, international level ECs, that a harvard acceptee might have
then not taking AP bio would probably not get them rejected
especially considering most times admissions officers dont exactly have time to check what courses your school even offered
Bro lets be real here were both freshman neither of us have any valid opinion
well, in this case, no opinion would be valid, the right information could only be gotten from an admissions officer
we can only guess and form our own opinions
Yes thats what im saying dawg
and we can either base that on information released by these aforementioned admission officers or we can not
And neither of us have any experience with the college admissions process
Either of us could be right or wrong idek anymore😭
wut abt the ppl who got accepted?
:
do they have their file?
i mean if they do
do they know why they got accepted?
then yeah
but there's like 10 people who did, have their files, and would be willing to help
and they arent here
ofc if someone here does, please help
eh i mean its like 3 aps a year
that is a lot especially if u. have a 7 block schedcuel
well, there's ap bio, chem and then phy 1, 2, and the two Cs
is AP biology worth it and is it easy,,,, i have am taken honors bology right now
yeah i see why you wouldnt trust someone in the same grade as you to help people
what
Thanks
So which would u say is better….?
i cant say idk
😬
for a freshmen at bx sci, what courses would be recommended
I think a- would be better even though it’s worth less @solemn hamlet
idk about your school specifically, but if you tell us which courses are offered, we might be able to help
hmm maybe then
ofc, admissions officers are probably more familiar with the honors classes
Does each college have the same gpa scale that they re calculate @solemn hamlet
youll have a counselor to help you with course selection
dont worry too much about it
oh ok
my school forces all its students to take religion every year, which is not an honors so it lowers my GPA, but in junior and senior year, we get the option to switch to IB Philosophy if we want to. I'm currently a sophomore, and I've chosen most of classes except that one because I'm not so sure if it's worth it. On one hand, if I take religion, I get essentially a free period. On the other hand, if I take IB Philosophy, I get the extra GPA point, but the classes I'm taking next year are REALLY stressful alongside my extracurriculars, so I'm worried that IB Philosophy might take valuable study/homework time from my other classes, or worse, lower my GPA anyway from getting a B in it. So would taking IB Philosophy be worth it? Or should I just stick to religion
well, courses arent always paramount, especially if that would worsen your gpa more than the higher level course helps or make you sacrifice ECs, so imo, dont
do you think if I applied to a UC they would even account religion classes in their final GPA calculation?
cause religion is technically not a UC approved course
well, they probably count everything in ur transcript
is religion even a graded course tho?
yeah
thats just dumb
unfortunately it's not pass no pass
i probably wouldnt worry about it too much
its not like not taking IB philosophy will have a major difference in your app, especially if you focus more on ECs and get good ones
ok sick
also I just realized that UCs have a max of 8 extra gpa points in 10th and 11th grade
and I already have more than that
so I think I'm chilling
what is the upper limit on Aps you would recomend for a junior
what classes did everyone take their freshman year
Don’t worry about it because it’s not something you can control. Everyone in your school is required to take it so that’s not going to hurt you in any way
just because someone else took it doesn't mean it's right for you
you want something challenging (but not too much as freshman year is a base for hs), and want it to possibly relate to your interests
Alg 1, LEAP (which is marketing paired with ELA), latin 2, pe, orchestra, gifted world geography, gifted biology
alg 2, english, us history, bio, health, gym, digital literacy, and information technology
my school does alg 2 then geometry which i think is kinda stupid
that makes no sense
u do intro to trig in geometry
alg 2 is assuming u already know the basics
😭
Honestly 3 is the max
Any more than 3 is pushing it and will be very hard
You can take more senior year if you want for college credit
You shouldn’t try to spam like 5 Ap classes junior year because it could be stressful depending on the person
Are 4 Ap's good
Remember gotta study for sat, act etc state testing
Might be too much but it depends is that extra ap a slightly easier class than others
Is that extra ap like
Ap psych
does state testing matter
APES
Depends on the state
It’s a graduation requirement
bout california
Apes will be chill
my school doesn't have it
Idk
For me it is a grad requirement
But I passed it already
oh ok
same
What other ap classes are you taking
Ah
AP US History
Very difficult ones
I’m doing lang next year
You’ll have a ton of hw prob
I would push off apes imo to senior year if I can take it that year
I’m entering high school next year and have to make a 4 year plan for all my courses
And I have to chose how many years of Spanish I have to take
How much would you guys recommend?
For context I’m planning to go into IT, business
Because as of right now I can either take ap spanish 4 in my junior year or take ap statistics in my junior year
In my opinion ap statistics is more important since u can learn Spanish in different apps and u have plenty of other methods to study for it
👍
Depends on your school look at the requirement for how many years of spanish
Typically if you want to go to a 4 year college 3 years of spanish is good
2 yrs
👍
how many aps are ideal to take in high school? is 9 good?
yea, if your tryna to get into a highly competitive school more is better. In general, 9 is solid.
I think that’s the most I can take cause my school has religion classes and I also have to take a world language for 3 years, but that would be good for ucla right
Depends on your school
You want to take more than others at your school
i think i'll be okay then cause my school offers only 1 ap class to sophomores so i'll be taking that and getting a head start
ty
How hard is AP Italian?
Hey, so can someone give me some course recommendations for a psychology major in college, please?
it depends on ur college-
I'm in the middle of high school (10th) and plan on becoming a psychologist in the future. I was wondering if any courses would be like basic things you'd need to take if you were to become a psychologist in the future
uh
ap psych
ap stats
ap calc ab
ap lang
and other medical related courses u have
u can also take dual enrollment
I have a question for those who are in high school+. What classes should I take my freshman year?
Since I am in 8th grade I am currently taking 8th grade math. I am also taking Spanish 1
well, what do you have available to you? math and foreign lang would be a continuation of the course you took in 8th grade
o
damn thats a lot of choices
Definitely
then ig you'd do alg 2 next year and spanish 2 the year after??
That’s why it’s hard deciding
yeah lwk
i mean so like you think you can handle honors classes?
they usually aint too bad
a little gpa boost too at times and its a little more challenging (not by a lot tho)
I mean I don't quite understand the inegrated maths part but if you're a freshman ig u start with int math 1?
Anyone here reminiscing on the days of ppq
What do you do in Intro To Film Production?
Should I take AP Lit, or should I be an office aide? I don't really want to take Lit, but I will if it'll look better to colleges. I'm already taking Creative Writing, so I'll be taking both Lit and Creative Writing. Creative writing is just a regular class.
Yeahhh
thats so cool
The High school I am going to is a Magnet
whats that
A magnet high school
Yeah
Basically
Not everyone does that major though
I can’t wait to go there honestly
You have to have like the right grades to get in
And I got a seat
i was thinking of going to magnet called Troy but i’m not really into tech which is what it focuses on
That makes sense
California?
Would it be stupid of me, as someone who wants to take AP calc next year, to take Math Analysis over the summer to move up? (currently in alg II trig)
(ap calc ab)
take pre calc
Be normal
😭
Also summer classes go fsster so ppl who "skip" classes tend to do worse statistically
true
but the ap calc teacher atleast ive heard from a friend who took ap calc ab said she will teach everything from the beginning if i need help, and that the friend herself didn't remember much from pre calc
omg someone ghost ping 😱
lol wha
its still a foundational
course
someone ghost pinged me
but if u think ur advanced enough do it
good to note, im not confident to say what i said after your message though HAHA because i only start actually trying in math in my eught grade year (but i got like high B's before that)
eighth*
oop
so im not sureee like ive gotten a's in math ever since and i do pretty well its just confidence
yep
😄
i won't get too ahead of myself thp
tho*
and then on top of that i considered ap or de physics since i really liked chem
but
not sure
and ap lang
ap is harder fs
hmm good to know
i know ap/de physics incorporates some calculus, atleast thats what i heard from a friend
so thats interesting
pre calc minimum
i see..
Which@language is the easiest
I’ve taken Latin for 4 years but should I take German French or mandarin instead
spanish is free
of those options french is the easiest
no-
Ofc mandarin
Easiest fr
bro
💀
stop giving him biased info
@finite lion choose one that makes most sense to you
Ok ty
im in it rn lol
Will colleges consider 1 semester of community college chinese mandarin the equivalent of 2 years of foreign language?
My high school puts it as 20 credits, which is the equivalent to 2 years on my transcript
so canyon hs (the high school i’m going to) has macro econ so should it be easy to just take the microecon exam?
would talking ap wh be better in freshman year than ap csp?
bc i can get the history course out of the way and have another spot freshman yr
There is no real benefit from CSP other than an AP class that increases your grade (unless your school makes it a prereq for cs a)
So I'd recommend you to do that
i doubt it
they might grade it as if it is an ap
like give it more weightage
but it wont be worth 2 years
Could someone rate my course selection(cannot change it anymore):
- Precalc(Honors is really hard in our school)
- AP CS A(Not guarenteed to get this as a soph so alt is weights for the 1 last year of pe)
- APUSH(Im a soph but i bridged world)
- English 10
- Spanish III
- Honors Physics
