#course-selection

I technically don’t have to take anymore Spanish cause I have 2 credits from another language but im not sure what I’d take instead
also not sure if I should do ap world or not
what is bc precalc
same as ap precalc except they made gen ed precalc ap so this one is bc now
that’s just for us idk abt anywhere else
also another detail that’s probably relevant is that ap world at our school is harder than most other schools
like our average on the ap exam is around 4.3ish
so im not sure if it’s worth taking or not
So I want to get a job in software development, game development, or something to do with coding/computers, and was wondering what I should take for sophomore year. Right now I am taking honors bio 1 and honors lit and comp 1. I have a 99 in geometry (ahead one year) and was thinking about replacing one of my honors classes with honors math. What do you think I should choose based on career etc. In both of the honors classes right now I have an 87 and a 90. I am just wondering whether it is worth taking all 3 honors classes on top of already developing a game, playing sports, and having to watch my younger siblings. I don't know if that will put too much stress on me as I already hate my biology class. If not, then I am wondering whether I drop honors lit and comp going into lit and comp 2, or drop honors bio going into chemistry.
my school is really small and not enough spots, so they have to pick the top applicants
yes, in my opinion its worth it. showing a college that u can take the hardest courses possible even if u get a slightly lower grade shows that u are willing for a challenge in uni. but i suggest dropping bio for chem, biology is kinda just common sense, and chem would look better on ur app
Just self study
And take the exam by yourself
well i have to take bio 1, chem is next year
Re-did my sophomore schedule a bit, give me your thoughts!
Honors Algebra II
Honors Chemistry I
AP Human Geography
AP World History
AP Computer Science Principles
Physics I
Concert Choir
Spanish III (Virtual Fall Semester)
Economics & Personal Finance (Virtual Spring Semester)
English II (Virtual Summer Semester 2025)
3 APs is a lot, also physics and chem at the same time is a bit much
God damn
when should i dual over ap?
also how do i see what colleges will accept dual credits for certain classes (like 1101)
Where can I take dual enrollment classes?
is your school in maybe a partnership with a local college?
does your school offer dual enrollment?
I don't think so. At least not that I know of.
I'm trying to take AP calc AB over the summer
is that an option?
Like anywhere
or are AP's stuff you can't take as a summer course?
AP ENG 11 LANGCOMP Required 1.00
AP VA and US HISTORY Required 1.00
AP CALCULUS BC Elective 1.00
AP COMP SCIENCE A Elective 1.00
AP PHYSICS C Elective 1.00
AP FRENCH LANG Elective 1.00
ENG ANALYSIS AND APPLICATIONS II HON
(Also, do y'all think this is maybe way too much for a junior?)
I am thinking about taking English Honors but im not too sure.
Freshman year my advrage for Regular English was a C.
This year since I took more AP Euro that involve LOTS OF WRITING and I joined Debate so I had to do more litterature based stuff, so my Advrage grade for non-honors English this year is 100% with my lowest being a 97% in that class
and honestly that class just seems too easy for me now so idk if i wanna switch to Honors (I plan on taking AP English) or to just stick with regular english for the sake of keeping that A
i mean if you plan on using english as a large part of your transcript or if you want to aim towards lineral arts or wtv, then it would be recommended
but if you want to aim for stem (like i am) i take regular english and AP and Honours for all the stem courses
Possible sophomore schedule, thoughts? Want to do something neuroscience related.
Honors Algebra II
Honors Chemistry
AP World
AP Seminar
Advanced science research I (counts as an honors class)
Gym/Health
I have 1.5 elective spots available, should I go for Honors Physics or APES and an intro to psych elective?
Hiya, I’m a 8th grader that recently got asked to go to a part time math and science school for next year. This would mean I would spend 2 periods on the bus and take 2 advanced course just to come back in the middle of 4th period. I’m not sure if this is something I would like to do, I would have to chose between 2 of the elective classes, which I enjoy the most and I’m unsure of what career path I would like to pursue in the future and not sure if I should go forward with going to the advanced high school?
honestly i'd go for it
AP BC precalc for sophmore is wild
fellas is it wise to take honors precal over the summer and then jump into ap calc bc next year
i'm in honors algebra 2 rn
my schedule for next year is looking like
ap english lit
ap gov / ap macro
ap physics 1
ap micro / digital marketing
ap stats
study hall
and possibly ap calc bc
Actually, it’s not that bad. But it rlly depends on what they teach and the pace they go. I took both this year and I’m fine. Chem is fine but I hate physics.
is physics harder than chem?
At my skl yes
You can check out the course description and the syllabus if they hv it
yes
fs
go rin
💯
nah man that’s like a death penalty
Imo, you don’t rlly need pre calc, I mean when I took ab I knew nothing and did just fine. Most teachers usually review everything anyways.
But I wouldn’t skip AB
honors precalc over the summer is terrible
our county doesn’t even offer it because of how stupid that is
I’m just saying that dude that wants to take calc bc shouldn’t take precalc over the summer to do so
doubt it’s very good prep
we do precalc with trig idk if thats how it works over there
I’m just saying precalc is gonna be hard over the summer
I agree, but I don’t think going straight to BC is a good idea
Without some type of other calc class, either pre calc or AB
BC has more content alongside everything in AB, imo its too much for just one year without any prior knowledge
Because most people have 2 years of experience with calc by then
Maybe even 3
Because they took, possibly pre calc, AB, and now BC
Which a lot is a review
Bruh I got a 76 on my bc test 💀
I felt confident about the test too 😭
It only gets worst from here
More people get a 5 on BC than AB because they have more years of experience
I mean AB is not exactly an easy class
In comparison imo
I don’t think this is going to be the vast majority though
I think the vast majority of people are going to take time to pick it up. But maybe I just have a screwed viewpoint on it
Ok maybe you have the screwed viewpoint
Your friend sounds very smart haha!
a lot of people go straight into it tho
also
she’s in a2 as a junior (the person in question)
if she’s going for like top colleges
the rigor would be in question
as that’s usually one of the lower levels (for my school at least)
Do they really?
so i’d say grind into it cus it’s worth it
With no previous experience in calc?
ur not helping lmao
it’s tough but it’s manageable
I don’t think this is the majority of people though
and it’s not like she’s going to get NO experience
precalc over the summer is still precalc
yes she’ll have to work hard
but if she is aiming for the top, like a majority of people here, then id recommend it
because course rigor
Honestly pre calc over the summer and then bc sounds like a good idea to me if they want to accelerate
yeah
AP Calc BC is generally received as one of the harder AP clssses
Because it’s a hard class
I associate it from experience
I also associate it with the calc teacher
I don’t she’s a very good teacher
This is why I talk from experience
But also a lot of websites and people I’ve talked to say calc is not an easy class
There’s a lot of resources for a lot of things though
It doesn’t make it less difficult b
This is true
Also true 😂
yeah 😭 i really wanna get ahead in my math classes
i was ahead by like 2 years in math but i moved countries and my credits didn't transfer
hence why a2 as a junior
Ik, but once again, I wouldn’t taken. Only if my school wasn’t too petty about it
All right, so I thought abt this and I’m still unsure. I don’t believe that a almost 2 hour bus ride is worth it to take 2 advanced courses. Losing an extra elective class is another thing especially while I’m not confident about the career path I want to pursue. At the same time, I wanna risk it as I feel slightly unchallenged with what I’m learning in the moment. As of now, I don’t get homework often only about once- three times per week. I don’t think I can deal with homework everyday.
I’m not sure if this is worth it, what do y’all think?
should i double up on physics and chem next year as a sophmore? i have a ton of smart friends who took bio in 8th grade so theyre taking chem rn and i feel left behind. wanna major in cs and do premed on top of it
Yo for junior year should i do AP bio, Ap chem, Ap Calc BC, Ap lang, french 3, us history or should i do ap bio, ap calc bc, ap lang, ap psychology, honors physics, french 3?
us history regular?
also depends what you wanna go for. do you want to become something in the medical field? do you want an easier senior year or a harder junior year?
French 3 is a must, and I'm assuming AP lang and Calc BC are too.
How’s AP art history? I’m freshman and thinking about taking it next year. I’ll have no other AP classes sophomore year (bc my school won’t let me)
schools making us pick courses for later this month
AUGHHHHHHH
im headed into 12th grade around august-september depending on when they decide to cut break off and its gonna be the final year i get to really do much of anything and i need to get it really working. i want to take either ap comp sci (2/2 sem, no dual credit), ap statistics (i think 2/2 sem? unsure about dual credit), or speech (1/2 sem, dual credit) since thats what the college i want to go to recommends most. i'll still have at least 1 slot for an elective but i dont know if i should fill both slots with them or not since im trying to fill the academic honors version of my states graduation program. should i go look for something else or just take two of the three classes?
friends who took it say it was okay but studying def required. take it if you feel you can handle it
bumping this jic. thinking of probably asking for some other classes during summer if i even can but idk if they will let me cram lol. but ill see
you should try to speak with your counselor
same thing with my school
but I negotiated up to 5
Is there any AP classes I should take in freshman year in high school?
Ap physics C: E&M
AP Human Geography
or AP World History
or AP Enviornmental Science
they're all pretty good to start out with
Excellent that sounded so interesting I should totally take this one
Yes
That's one of the hardest APs
💀
Is AP Computer science principles good too?
AP chem also good, very ez
My friend got 1st place on the exam
Too easy
Is AP World History hard? (Rate it 1-10)
Mid (based on relatives) 5.5/10
out of all APs? I would rate it like a 4 or a 5/10
Just a lot of writing
ok ty
My relatives told me to take AP chem for junior year help me 👍👍👍
I cant tell if your serious or not but goodluck with that
AP Chinese is pretty easy
AP chinese, AP lit, AP euro, AP calc BC, AP physics C sound like a good freshman schedule to me
They actually very successful and is smarter than most ppl. Typical nerd emojis 😡😡😡
Im just confused now but good for them
is this fr 😭 those are some of the hardest out there
I'm chinese so ap chinese isn't that bad
Riiight
😃😃
oh then that might be too easy
Yeah totally
Try AP German freshman year instead
worth imo
I mean I also took German classes since I was 6
no fs u should go for it
also explain credit loss in addtl info
AP Spanish Lit <3
oh god no
that will give you some easy marks
i’m so done with spanish
you should do it
ofc
I learned Spanish for 3 years on duolingo
go rin 💯‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️🔥
is there AP french?
omg i’m so supportive
Oh I haven't learned French yet
Easy Freshman Schedule for Balanced life 🫶 :
AP Spanish Lit, AP Lit, AP Euro, AP Calc BC, AP Physics C
you forgot AP chem
you would still get destroyed by AP spanish lit
Dw I will take it in senior year
yeah if you wanna be a STEM Major
I still have 4 years left
this AP schedule covers all bases
I'll use it next year 👍
I want to go to this school but there is no Spanish lit how sad 😔😔😔😔
try AP Japanese
3 days into ap bio- would highly recommend taking prob n stats prior or if you are taking it in 10th grade would suggest having a decent to good to even very good skill set in math or at least a minum of good comprhenion of math though it isnt too too difuclt
also review basic chem hard if you didnt do good in it
I heard japanese is super simple language
My friend is Japanese he will teach me it
the stats in AP bio isnt that hard
There is Ap Japanese language and culture
its not but im talking more or so about 10th graders who take ap bio
i mean you should be able to learn it as you go
the chem backround is more important but also learnable as you go
a lot of APs for a reason suggest (some schools require) classes to had been taken prior but yeah ur not wrong
Holy **** there is Ap physics C: Electricity and Magnetism and also Ap physics C: mechanics
yeah
Should I do AP stats or AP physics soph year
have u taken precalc well actually if its normal ap physics it probably doesnt matter much
Ab and bc is basically the same thing but bc moves at a faster pace because there is +1.5 units
both <3
In calculus
take BC is you're good at math and AB if you're not
AB so you can get the gist of the Calculus thing and then bc if you can ace it
Don't lose your GPA kids
Don’t you need to take Caculus before stats? Or is that not required? If not then maybe take both? Or I were to choose one, I’d choose the one that would help me more with my career path interest
no AP stats has no calc
ap calc has basically no stats
I feel like both are fundamental though
I think should just do stats and get over it and focus on physics later
Hi guys
For grade 11, i took functions, english, physics, chem, world religions, and co-op, and gym
is it a good?
year
I think you need pre calc for that
I know exactly what courses to take (mostly) but the thing is is that i have absolutely no idea how the high school course selection works
is buisness law a good idea to take in hs if im planning to go to law school?
depends on the school
and country
The riddle is, what has no more than 7 credits a year
you?
I dont get it
I need electives to pass
but i already maxxed out my credit limit
How does that work
ask a councelor
still havent gotten any answers !
maybe speech? since youre sure about the dual credit
ill take speech one semester then
now i have to figure out what to fill the other 3 semesters with.....
falls
Do you guys think taking a Career and Technical education class for Sophomore year so i can take more advanced classes relating to my interests my Junior year would be a good idea or should i wait till Junior year?
I wanna replace my AVID class with Childhood development cus of these reasons
1: Avid teacher believes that I can benefit if i stopped taking his classes and went for a different class
2: We need one semester of a CTE class to graduate
taking more advanced classes always looks good to colleges
Should I take AP chem in 9th grade?
I'll edit your college essay! 📝 https://nextadmit.com
if you can handle it
Thank you
Speaking of ap sciences…i plan on taking ap calc ab in 9th grade, bc in 10th, and stats in 11th, i wanna have that “4 years of math thing” so i was wondering if smth like either ap physics Cs or maybe even ap physics 1 and 2 could count towards that? (Our schools doesn’t have multicalc or anything)
take an applied math if they have it, Im pretty sure ap micro or macro are applied math classes
unless you really wanna do physics
I'm pretty sure colleges like that
I don’t know much abt ap macro/micro but wouldn’t ap physics be closer to math, physics 1 and 2 are alg based and both Cs are calc based
anyways my reasoning is the same reasoning they give for why you shouldn't take Organic Chemistry your freshman year of college, Not only is it a hard class but you have to spend time integrating into a new school at new standards with a new schedule and teachers and friends and life
they're both applied math classes its just what interests you more
Thanks, maybe i'll take is in 10th or 11th
I think chemistry is reccomended
Ok I’ll check out ap macro micro
I had my eyes on macroeconomics for a while now
Stick to Regular chem classes first and then do AP Chem once you’re older
Would taking both ap physics Cs senior year kill me?
What should be my deciding factor deciding to take either regular or AP track english next year
Should I take calc ab and bc in sophomore year together (they teach in person and cover each in 1 semester)
Yeah
Are you having consistent good grades in English without struggle
I've got 95's and 96's with general ease, but on a lot of quizzes I get half credit for missing the entire idea of the section of the book we just read
just do ab and then bc next year
what do you wanna major in
calculus is stupid in general
to get an A
So its kinda contradicting, but aeronautical engineering, the reason I wanna do AP Lit/Lang is because it knocks out 5% of the entire degree if I pass both tests
most schools only require one english i just did lang for premed
the college i want to go to(and with my grades most likely will get into) requires both
Ap precalc is p ez
but wouldnt it be smarter to increase your chances of getting an A rather than trying to cram everything
for reference its Embry Riddle Aeronautical University
But my parents are saying I'm gonna die if I take 2 years in 1
then take both english sucks
yeah its dumb just do them after one another for an easy A
👍
K gotchu
you cant go around and give advice expecting everyone to get an A then you give bad advice
Its 2 years in 1 so you could be risking your straight As...
If I expected everyone tog et an A I'd say take 7 APs freshman year
B C D E/F aka the other grades
you're in highschool?
Okay so how much time did u spend on calc per day
do not listen to bro hes a gunner
Correct but its such a highschool mindset to expect an A in a class
Fax
...
my sister goes to columbia engineering and was top 10% with a 74% in a class
She's hella smart bro
ok but you cant give advice with YOUR standards you have to standardize it to the average american highschooler whose a B/C student
i mean in her engineering class not in highschool
No I meant that she got into Columbia
your a genius stop expecting others to be the same
So she must be smart
dude you can google it the average gpa is a 3.0
dont feed his ego
athlete
Ohhh nice
it takes a 5 second search to find out the average highschool student gets a 3.0 GPA
indeed it is
thought it would make him understand I see now it doesnt
maybe some As and Cs thrown in
...
I feel like he's just saying wtv at this point bro
I got into northeastern with 60% Bs and 40% As
hes just trying to de motivate everyone
what did you change there
I'll edit your college essay! 📝 https://nextadmit.com
also that
harvard is high ranked school so its harder to get in but 2.9
so change expectations
3.0 would make it hard for selective schools but you can get into tons of universities with a 3.0 even a 2.5
lord
state schools
have you graduated
because the AVERAGE college student makes a million more dollars in their life time compared to someone who hasnt
that includes ALL universities
not just harvard
a million is alot of money
and work 70 hours a week?
State colleges provide an almost equivalent education as any T20 would, it is also a much cheaper option it pursue the degree they’d like to
Those trade jobs are scams because they dont tell you the hours they work. You are spreading harmful rhetoric that is also intimidating to younger students
Your GPA is not your whole application
mid networking, internship, and research opportunities
Shotgun T20s!!!!
Only way of life is shotgun RD
hypocritical?
There’s lots of parties at Harvard
you just have to not go to them
The people that go to schools outside of T20s are just fine people
yeah at T20s you will be the worst among academic weapons, what could be better motivation than that?
Are you not expecting everyone to get A average
T20s have parties
My dad went to Uconn and ended being a astrophysicist at NASA, your undergrad does not determine your future
except CalTech
yes
but it can help shape it
correct but its not the determining factor
Med schools literally just said they dont gaf where you to go college if you have good grades and a good MCAT
Grass you have lots of people here willing to help you gain a different perspective on college. Rather than arguing every point, maybe take a second to understand.
yes med school
it doesnt matter much for grad school
but still going to a T20 will help you get into a good medschool bc of better internship and research opportunities
medicine is mid
depends lol, I alr had good connections pre college and my major gives me research and the best clinical experience outside of PA
what is PA
thats not what that statement was saying at all, you're right but you blatantly ignored what I said
Physician Assistant, essentially the second highest position in medicine
Physicians assistant
besides doctor
yup
Do you want a plumber who doesnt wanna be a plumber?
sick
no one is meant to be anything
.... do you just assume everyone who works jobs that dont seem appealing are underqualified or did i misunderstand
Literally
then they dont have to do that
like what are you not understanding
if someone WANTs to do medicine and they work hard enough and get in they're built for it
yes but it's more than intelligance that determines fit for the medical field
I think you have extreme opinions bro
Med schools acknowledge that IF you get into medical school you are academically fit enough to be a doctor
Thats why medical school is pass/fail
because they want to eliminate the concept of compeition.
people who can do something are more likely to do it bc they'll get reinforced by early success. people who don't wanna do something will get negatively reinforced early on when they fail bc they stupid
it is?
yes
W
Majority are
Not necessarily
if <65 if failing
No? for someone who prides themselves in math you seem to be awful at statistics... the average IQ of a doctor is an average there will always be someone lower
they are you just dont want to barely pass
Depends on the school
Consensus on what is passing differs from school to school
Then how could you flex the As you so pride yourself in
talk about the normal
if you have an IQ of 80 you would be extremely challenged in college
people who have an IQ of 80 struggle a lot with just HS
Ok? if someone cant get into medical school then they dont get in and do something else? also not everyone is built for a field like plumbing and 80 is an INSANELY low IQ
No 80 is super fucking low dude
like you dont know anything if you think people seriously have IQs of 80
the average iq of doctors is 125
just because someone isnt doing well in school doesnt mean they have a low IQ they could literally not be studying hard enough or not studying right but an IQ of 80???
people do??
there are as many people with IQ of 80 as IQ of 120...
all the smartest kids will have IQs of 120+
the average american IQ is like 97-98
so all the dumbest kids prob hav <80
I never said that, i just said its rare
and?
the average American is not the smartest kid nor the cumbest
also you're acting like everyone who WANTS to be a doctor will get into medical school
you dont know how admissions work clearly
it's not...
there are as many people with IQ 80 as IQ 120
80 is two standard deviations from 100
where did I act like that
all the smartest kids have 120+ IQs
is 120 rare though?
not everyone can DO plumbing
so for each genius you know there is one stupid
or is it common
or a good work ethic
ok
Plumbing is still a labor-intensive job that requires schooling and here you are saying if you arent good at schooling to do plumbing
like ~9% have IQ 120 or higher
1 in 10 will have IQ 120+
so 1 in 10 will have IQ <=80
I’m not even sure what this argument is anymore
But let’s just take it to DM’s
It’s not on topic anymore
@cinder gorge are you referring to me saying that med schools dont care where you went to college as me saying anyone can get into medical school?
i should sleep and ignore this
Right
gn
im gonna dm you
which school i choose
Are you talking about high schools? Well, that depends on your location and academic competence, and your family situation
For colleges, basically the same thing too.
but they go to trade school
its not like they dont have to learn anything
Obviously being an orthopedic surgeon or smth requires more education than being a plumber, but some would consider that a plus
Anyways, this argument is literally so dumb 💀
Obviously not everyone is academically competent enough to be an orthopedic surgeon, but that's an extreme example. You can become a regular physician, if you really put your mind to it, not accounting for disabilities or other physical or mental conditions..
so i was recommended into ap bio for freshman year but idk if i should take it freshman or sophomore year or later
I think junior and senior is best for ap bio
People said it's pretty difficult for a freshman
okay thank you
AP bio freshman year is wod
wild
calc bc senior year or statistics
.
wait question
what r u taking junior year
and what r u majoring in?
because difficulty honestly depends on teacher
and ur strengths
AP calc ab, something engineering
go for bc
it’s more important than stats
for engi
I'm just thinking
yeah
Should I take biology 1 or conceptual physics for 9th grade?

Nothing harder?
nope
depends on your major and graduation requirements
I persoannly hated biology but it was easy
ok thanks
I’m currently taking regents bio, and I’m planning on going straight to ap chem which i know is very very hard, idk what to do though
I’m trying to get into mit, I am a game developer/prorammer who has made games with 1k ccu
I like to play violin and am one of the best in my class
I’m also going from no aps to 3 aps
Cool, but i fail to see how musical skills help you get on MIT
Shows interest in something other than career path
And if done out of school could count as an extracurricular
How many years of a foreign language is recommended for college apps? I’m planning on majoring in a stem field
Exactly
I wanna know if this jump is reasonable though
3 years is the norm, 4 is ideal
2 is usually necessary
should i jump from pre calc to calc bc from freshman to sophmore?
is this even a jump for you?
At my school you take AP calc bc straight after pre-calc
I mean you could always look up "what concepts should I have a good understanding of for AP calc BC"
AP calc bc is a hard class but if you did good in pre-calc and are confident in your algebra/trig skills, then you should be okay
ooh nice ok thanks
I’m pretty sure calc bc is just ab but faster and a bit more in depth
Is this a good 4 year plan for high school? Note “TAP” is our schools like “honors” or advanced classes
Also idk abt ap music i just out a random ap cause that spot is blank
I’m also self studying ap bio
im going to be a senior in high school next year but i need some help choosing my classes. i want to major in engineering and i know math is super important for that but id like to get a feel on ap pre calc and if i should take that or just stick with on level. id rather take ap and finish with a B rather than finishing on level with a B (like is the difficulty close or worlds apart between the two classes). I currently have a 96 in algebra II. As far as my 3rd social studies credit, i dont know what to take, ap gov, ap econ, or ap macro. i have an 89 in apush. And how about AP Spanish? im currently taking spanish 4 and have a 90 in it but based on what ive heard, you have to be very comfortable with the language and im not sure im there yet however, my dad is fluent so could this help? finally, i havent taken chemistry yet. should i take on level, honors, or ap? ive been really consistent with physics and bio.
I’ve heard precalc is just alg 2 but with trig and more in depth so maybe try and self study that and do ap calc ab
Wooah that's very hardcore (I'm not in high school yet so uuh idk how to help but good luck lol)
Def pushing it
Pre calc is alg 2 + trig yes
Can someone check over my 4 year plan please and give their opinion on it
No, calc ab is just calc 1 while calc bc is calc 1 and 2
BC is "faster" since you have to learn all of AB in the first half of the class p much
I am taking honors geometry and honors algebra 2 next year should I also take honors chem, would be hard
It depends on your specific school's courses, so it would be better to ask people who have taken both the classes at your school
Sure
you generally should be fine as long as you are decent at math since chemistry does require a good bit of math but overall nothing too difficult
Thanks
Lucky guy taking all those APS. my school wont offer them to freshman
We only got ap human offered but I’m trying to beat the system w ap calc - ap chem is a big stretch tho lol
i wanted to do that but my school is petty
also calc BC better
what two science Aps should I take next year? ap chem, ap bio, or ap physics c mechanics (what combo)? I’ve been thinking ap chem and ap physics but people have been telling me it would be really hard. For context I’m a sophomore in ap calc bc and honors chem, and I took honors bio last year (but no physics classes ever)
my school also offers “calc 2 H” which is technically calc 3 since it’s multi variable calc. I was wondering whether or not I should take it in school or as a dual enrollment class.
major?
My school only offers Ap human geography to freshman
So what year r u going into?
what are your grad reqs?
Lmao nobody cares about my four year plan 😔
y u gotta be so mean about it? is there a purpose of being mean?
I’m not being mean
All I said was nobody cares about my 4 year plan lmao
I miss the part where I was being “mean”
ion think he was being mean
he wasnt being mean
Take off the 1/2 from English and PE, we don’t do speech or health anymore
should i take as many ap courses as i can? like double up and do two science ap one year? my guidance counselor says its a possibility but doesnt exactly recommend it (even though a lot of the upperclassmen are doing it)
I like it
Just a question though
How can you guys take so many electives
Like that’s about 10-11 courses per year
But there’s some pretty repetitive stuff
Don’t do both intro to java and ap csa
Just do ap csa
It introduces you to java
Also just a suggestion you could continute to AP spanish senior year
Also idk if that’s how it works but I feel like you could just take honors biology freshman year
And then honors chemistry sophomore year
And not do physical science
But again your school might work differently
Also once again idk if it exists but you could do alg ii honors freshman year and not have to do trih
Trig
Sophomore year
Hey so I want to get into MIT for nuclear physics, I'm currently a freshman and here's my plan for the next 3 years:
Sophmore:
ap us history
honors english
ap pre calc
honors biology
honors chemistry
german 3
finance/wood working 1
cad 2/engineering 2
Junior:
a history course
an english course
ap calc something
ap physics c
ap chem
german 4
wood working 2/intro to computer science
Senior
a history course
an english course
ap calc something
ap german
ap computer science A
data foundations
ap computer science principles
home economics/photography
bio, biomed engineering, or chem engineering on a premed track
Recommend ap calc BC for junior
more in-depth
Too much
I can’t
Aww
Not a thing, physical science is the only science class they have in 9th
Not a thing at my school
Oof
For us it’s per term not semester
Cuz 9th isn’t at the same building as high school
Ohh
So is one elective
Like per term
I’m confused
I’ll take the advice of not being repetitive tho
The numbers beside the classes are how much terms the class is, there’s 16 slot per year and 2 term classes take up 2 spots
Ohhhh
And a term is a semester?
Are you going straight to physics c?
I recommend like physics 1 and 2 or something
2 terms per semester
yeah probably to physics c, I like to study stuff at home before I take classes so I will prob know the basics of stuff
there's ap pre calc AB and BC right? if so I'll probably take BC, I haven't seen the courses they offer at my high school though
Since you’re taking pre calc sophomore year then BC is a good idea, but I’m not sure how intensive pre calc is so
Yeah do Bc if stem
That’s good
idk either but I'm actually doing it so I can learn and use the functions and stuff I learn in coding
do you know what's after bc?
I think most ppl do differential equations
Calculus 3
Nahhh BC covers everything AB does just with some extra stuff
Yeah, that’s why I say it’ll be a little bit harder
Bc you have to learn everything from AB + the extra stuff
ok then I prob will take it
Yeah, but that means BC goes at a much faster pace
That’s why I’m planning on taking ab before bc
The only thing is that is very repetitive
Also instead you could have a chance of doing calc iii
I mean it’s not that fast
If you’ve done ap precalc and gotten an A i’d recommend going straight to Bc
Now if you did regular precalc
Then maybe ab is good
bruh it doesn’t matter since my school makes calc ab a pre req for calc bc
Oof
Thats stupid
I think you just go further into multi variable calculus
But there’s so many different directions you could go with it
Math branches off a lot
I’m taking multi variable during the summer and a math course at a college
What do I take next then?
Possibly linear algebra
ODE
Differential equations
ODE and PDE
Ordinary differential equations and partial differential equations
Wait I thought linear algebra was algebra 1
No there’s a different one
Unless I’m mistaken
Noo
Linear algebra covers stuff like matrices and vectors
Yes but I just thought it was weird that they were on there
What’s a matrice
Yo for someone that’s gonna be on the premed track is ap calc bc, ap lang, ap chem, ap bio, regular us history, and French 3 for junior year good or nah??
Because it was not something I had ever learned about or even known about until ACT lol
Probably true
lucky, we need required four for most of the main courses asides from math
Same, but speech, health 1, and financial literacy is required for us
Precalc
yeah go for it
what about like bio + chem
i don’t have personal experience with either but if ur premed/bio concentration then it’d probably be helpful rifht
I never learned it there
ok so i have the option to take some combination of the following courses senior year thru dual enrollment, i can do at max 3 prob b/c the workload
-General topology
-Complex analysis
-Real analysis 2
-Combinatorics
-Abstract algebra
-Advanced linear algebra
In my opinion I would do advanced linear algebra, combinatorics, and abstract algebra
Mogwarts school of rizzardy, my major is mewing.
whats ur streak
See status
fire
Its rlly just arithmetic, addition and multiplication and stuff like that
oh also does anyone know of a way for me to either take calc 3 over the summer or test out of it for credit online? AP scores take forever and a bunch of classes i want to take have it as a prereq any help is appreciated
same for us
rn im taking alg ii and 8th grade science and i wanna somehow do bio over the summer. is there any way to do this whilst getting an advanced credit?
Check with your highschool about doing honors biology over the summer
ooh same
uuh people who already took it in my district severely recommended me not to take bio but idk
University of Texas High School (if you live in Texas)
also what should mt courseload be in freshman yr? i was thinking like ap precal aac bio and ap physics but that might be a bit too hard
Other states probably have different programs
That’s a bit much
Then you should try it
But you need counselor approval first usually
AP Precalc
AP Human Geography
English 1 Adv
Bio Adv
A language course
Plus 3 other electives
English - Honors English 1
Math - Algebra 2
Social Studies - AP Human Geography
Science - Physical Science
PE - Intro to Strength
Health - Health 1
Electives -
Business Applications
Intro to Engineering
Speech
Spanish 2
Your school may offer electives related to your preferred major (Ex: Medical Terminology, Comp science 1 adv)
i was thinking compsci instead of language cuz it counts as one
This is what I’m taking freshman year
No it doesn’t
for our district it does
What
ye
i took spanish in 6th grade
I highly suggest to take a language, because some top tier colleges do require it. Even my district allows for the substitution, but I’m still taking Spanish
That was probably an introductory class, u need to take high school Spanish
k
I’m a freshman btw
Cuz colleges will not care about ur classes in middle school
it was a hs course
Unless u took an extremely advanced class like pre calc in 7th, calc in 8th, etc
It was called Spanish 1?
yes
Ok, then take Spanish 2
Ok, then that counts for credit
they also offered spanish 2 but i transferred schiools
yeah
only on level credit right
That gives u high school credit
You are way ahead of the rest of the freshmen. Keep up the good work.
I took Spanish 1 in 8th
Same
Most schools allow u take Spanish 1 in middle school
yeah
Alright I have to go
k ttyl
Could you add me?
hey guys, my high school is doing course requests for next year. im going to be a junior next year, and for one of my electives im planning to take a semester course of SAT prep and then just filling the second semester with psychology. but my school also offers this principles of business/management course that also sounds interesting, since im planning on majoring in some type of business field. i dont really wanna knock out any of my electives to take both, so i have to pick one or the other.
anyone got advice for m?
awit u have sat prep at school?
yeahh
guys any recomendations for classes you may want to take if you want to become a docotr?
do get colelge credit
by the way im like ahead
for a few classes
In reality, the classes you take in high school doesn’t really matter for med school
But, things like bio physics and chem aren’t a bad idea to take to start getting familiar with what you’ll see in college
The other hard thing though, is a lot of colleges won’t accept credit for the med school pre-reqs
You’ll have to check their website
^
Depends on the class and the school
Also a lot of med schools want you to take all the pre reqs and not skip
any advice?
What grade are you in
9
For now
Focus less on med school
More on high school
Find hobbies and things you like to do
Try different clubs and different activities outside school
So when you find the things you like
Ap bio
You can expand on it in your other years if HS
alr
AP Bio, AP chem, AP physics
Or the non-AP versions if you’re not up to that
Also anatomy
Why Ap physics tho
And any other classes your school might offer that’s related
k
Physics also plays a lot into the human body
Like it’s nevertheless a good class to take but he is asking for classes related to med
hey what specialty are you going into
I mean like chemistry is basically physics but big
And it is
When thinking of the physiology of the human body, physics plays a big part
I’m not totally sure yet
Bc I know I’m going to change my mind once I get into rotations
But right now
I’d love to be a pediatric surgeon
That’s the dream rn
But it’ll probably change so
So a surgeon for kids?
Yup
Why is that a seperate job than a normal surgeon tho
Because kids have vastly different physiology and anatomy from an adult
Oh really
Oh yeah cuz bones are different
What other things
And just do neonatal
When you think about puberty, you’re changing at a rapid rate, and this weird stage in between childhood and adult hood
Mhm true
And then you have to consider people in their low 20s
Who are almost at adulthood but not quite there
When college say they want 4 years of math do they literally want you to take math all 4 years? Or do they want 4 years of material. Cause depending on if the school allows me or not, I could take ap calc bc freshman year and not have much left except for stats. If they’re worried about me forgetting math or smth before going in college I could take multivariable calc at a cc
Computer science counts as math
In some schools
So you could also do that
wait for high school is it a bad idea if I take AP computer science? I literally don't have a lot of experience in computers, but my mom really wants me to do it.
Not a bad idea, they start from the basics
you just need to pay attention
I might take ap comp sci a too I’ve heard it’s good
So it’s fine having no experience right
yes
I need help with course stuff
Next year I plan on taking AP physics 1, AP Precalculus, and AP Stats, while pursuing to major in Aerospace Engineering
Do you guys recommend this math load?
Also I want to know if AP Stats is hard
Dubs
ap physics is hell though
Coming from someone who is currently taking it, it’s pretty fricking hard, but if you actually want to take it, it can be enjoyoble
Is this too much- AP pre calc, AP Spanish 4, hon chem, AP stats, AP seminar, and AP physics
Yeah it's a really good idea
especially if you just want the basics
not a major
For what year?
And is it physics i or physics I and II
I think for AP physics if you can review theory and understand it it's fine.
Physics 1 and sophomore year
For sophomore year that is quite a lot
But it dependes on you. I mean precalc is basically just an ap for name not by class. AP stats and sem too I've heard are easy.
So I think it's def doable
W logic
Stats is easy?
@remote swan Your message(s) have been flagged as spam and have been removed.
Not as bad as it will be next year with fluids
This year physics 1 ap isn't bad
@wise forge can I send an idea of my 4 year highschool plan and you critique it?
like the courses
I can take a look
@tiny lily dms
I’ve heard
Nahh
Physics 2 is easier than Physics 1
Our school does them both in the same year
And I’m doing much better in 2 than in 1
Because 1 is more last chapter builds on current chapter
Ig
And 2 is just random topics
So 1 gets to go into more depth
While 2 is more of just an introductory exploration
Yeah if you still want to
So 2 is an introductory class?
Can someone take a look at my 4 yr hs plan?
sure
I'll DM u
can I dm u
i hv an option to take chem next year or i can skip taking chem in hs and j take ap physics. which one should i take?
Sure
Take both if possible
what if i had to choose one
Well introductory for the topics it teaches. Though I mean knowing some physics I topics can help, but only the most basic ones.
I skipped chem and went to physics
So I’m biased
But do physics
However do chem later because it’s good to have all sciences at some point
Choose which one u want to do
Can you help me 🙏
?
Plenty of people do fine in the SAT without a prep course
Might be better to choose something else
Depends on the college
I reccomend atleast 3
Some colleges require 4
Yeah I’m just taking 4 to be safe
Does middle school count as 1 year
I did spanish 1 in middle school
No
Yes if it’s Spanish 1
It’s a high school class
It still doesn’t count
So then people have to go up to Spanish 5?
If u want 4 years
Unless the middle school class appears on your transcript
Hi guys I am in 8th grade going into 9th grade and need help My goal is to get into harvard I need help during course selection as I dont understand what this means as I live in canada so course selection options are much different.
Take APUSH, AP WORLD AND AP EURO HISTORY
would AP Euro, Bio, and CSP be doable for an incoming sophomore, im a freshman currently, just wanna lay things out ahead of time
i am in 8th grade and i will be finished with chem and precalc, and spanish 2. I have 2 highschools of going to. the first one offers the ib programme for the diploma but has us do a pre-ib program for the freshman and sophmore. the school is weird so they would have me repeat biology, chemistry, spanish 2, and alg 2. the second school is just ap with aice. the ib programme has significantly better ratings than the second school. my goal is to get into an ivy league
which one would be best
alright
Ayy

Where u from in Canada?
How many honors classes do you recommend taking in 9th grade? I have qualified for Honors so far in 5 classes(not counting music or electives) and I do not think that we have a limit to honors classes (we might but I can't find anything on it). What honors classes are worth it so you have the best chance of getting into AP classes in your sophomore year? My priority Honors are Geometry and Bio as well as English. The others I don't know if I should do it. I qualify for Honors History and Honors French II, again, I am not sure if it will be too much worklaod.
And suppose I had to take Honors Biology in my Freshman year, and then in my sophomore year I want to do AP sciences. I have the choice of AP Physics 1,2,C, AP Chem, AP Environmental science, Forensic Science, and AP Bio. If I had to pick the 3 best science courses for Sophomore, Junior, and, Senior year, in what grades should I do each course depending on the difficulty. Let me know I should rephrase this because I was just wondering about this earlier.
I think you should do all of the ones you can
But of course consider whether it’s healthy for you
Do AP chemistry sophomore year, AP Physics 1,2 Junior Year, AP Physics C Senior year
However, if you’re looking to go into medicine or something
Do AP Bio instead of AP Physics C
hihi! im planning my classes for next year (my senior year) and im trying to decide between ap biology and ap physics c
context: for science,, have already taken bio, chem, and ap physics.. for math,, i have taken up toap calculus ab
i prefer to study using flashcards (which hasnt been as much of a thing in ap physics).. between ap biology and ap physics c, which one would be easier to study using flashcards
what are you on 🔥
Flashcards: ap bio, but if you don’t want to go into medicine and instead wanna do engineering physics c is really important
thanks!!
can anyone review my schedule for next year (senior)
I can
okay
@austere tulip
AP Lang
AP Gov/Econ
AP Calc AB
AP Physics I
AP Stats
either AP Chinese + elective for 7 classes or 2-3 dual enrollment courses to make it 5 classes and 8-9 total classes
(AP GOV/econ or reg is only allowed in 12th)
Hi
I like that schedule
thoughts?
Are you going to major in stem?
If you are I’d recommend calc BC
I mean either way you’re then be exempt from two sems in college if you’re not looking to go further
Oh yeah a school in my region also has that
yea i cant take bc
Ok
I’ve done Physics I
I think that’s a pretty balanced schedule. Physics would probably be the hardest class and then Lang might be difficult depending on you
how was it?
science is like crazy at our school
💀
im in reg chem rn so like
its a jump
but its allowed
Ok so for ap physics I the thing is the first chapter
Unit*
Really easy
It gets difficult around forces
Kinematics
For that unit you legit just need 4 formulas, how to find area, and slipe
Slope*
hopefully they dont make it seem hard lol
I think the class itself is fine because you have I for the entire year and you’ll get frq practice along with a lot of mcq practice
yeah II is like
The exam is what has a low rate
why tho 😭
Wait so your ap physics class has I and II?
People don’t know what they r signing up for
It’s because many people are underprepared
Yeah apush, ap physics I
its like ap chinese
Usually 1 is a pre req for 2 and 3
only high caus
a lot of asians that are fluent take
By a lot more people
yea it is
we have I 2 and C
