#course-selection
1 messages · Page 84 of 1
hey is someone here that i can ask a question to
so i’m rewriting my rough draft of courses for my remaining years of highschool
and i was wondering
so we have to take a 4th year of math
and i have a space in junior year
should i do pre calc?
Oh yeah take precalc in junior year then
okay
there’s also opportunities for college credit in precalc even if i don’t end up doing ap calc
if you can, take college trig
yeah and i did algebra 1 in middle school
Instead of precalc
like in school?
but if you can’t, go ahead and take precalc
Yeah
Yeah then precalc
and then ap calc for senior year
Good luck with classes
thanks!!
AB or BC?
we only have AB
BC can give you up to two Calc credits but it wasn’t worth it imo
I wanna say Calc BC is more like Calc ABC
There’s just a bit more content added in and everything felt super rushed
For us ab is a prereq for bc
well it says AP calculus a, b,c but it says that we take the AB exam at the end of the year
bc exam is legit easier
I see
to get a 5
but also our trimesters are labeled a, b, c so i think that’s just showing that it takes up all 3 trimesters
i can show you it
ahh it’s flipped
We only needed precalc or something similar as a prereq
I took college alg & trig and went into Calc head first lol
i can get 5 college credits from it
which would u say is easier ap stats or ap calc
do you think they’re manageable to do at the same time?
I wish this was true
Some colleges straight up wouldn’t accept AP credits even if you passed lol 🥲
read the description on AP calc i sent
for my school
Yeah I just did
your school and what colleges you’re going to will be different
Some colleges will only give three or even one credit for that class
ohh yeah
I’m just mentioning now to keep in mind
It was a terrible surprise when i found out
Do that
i’m thinking 2 art classes or woodworking which is 2 trimesters
hmm
i think art is more aligned with my interests
so intro to art
but idk what other one to do
What are the options?
theres painting, drawing, art of design, sculpture, and then fine art photography but that’s only open to seniors
I regret not taking art 😭
I really want to but I valued my AP classes more so I didn’t take any art classes
OO ART OF DESIGN WAIT
you get to design logos
with digital design tools
and posters
Oh like Adobe?
and your designs get used for clubs, teams, events, and businesses in the area
yeah i’d think so
My school did that
Do it then
i will
You can probably put that on your resume too
“Photoshop experience”
Ask if you can take an Adobe certification test at the end of the year
Do you have a school counselor?
yes
Do you go to them often?
They’re your best resource
Just talk to them about grades and clubs or classes
Make up questions to ask lol
That way they remember you
i really hope the classes i signed up for don’t conflict and they use my alternates
yeah
i’m in 3 clubs en
rn*
I got a lot of my scholarships because I went to them a lot
Which allowed them to remember me and sign me up when a scholarship comes up
one i have to quit soon because sports will interfere with the meetings 😭
A lot of students don’t go to their counselors and they miss out on this huge resource
Pat pat
Varsity or JV?
well it’s just track & field and from what i know we don’t really have varsity and jv for it
Oh I see
i also have gymnastics at the same time
Good luck on it too
Sure
AP Biology
AP Government
AP Literature and Composition
Pre-Calculus
Economics
Spanish 4
Intro to Art
Art of Design
Post-Secondary Prep
economics and post secondary prep are the only required ones
Is AP gov for you a one semester/trimester class or a full year class?
well civics was also required but ap gov covers that
full year
So I had to self study in the second semester before the AP test 😭
she’s the yearbook club advisor
i’m in yearbook club
sadly i have to quit next year because they are making it into a class instead of a club
My AP gov teacher was this tiktok famous teacher 😭
oh my gosh 😭
I couldn’t pay attention in class at all because he taught way too fast
so im quitting 2/3 of my clubs but im planning on joining 2 more next year (eco club and sadd)
R.I.P. :/
Sadd?
That sounds cool
Do youth in gov actually
Leadership positions and clubs help a lot in your resume
i’ll give them all a test run and see how my schedule with them conflicts and stuff
i’m in a club rn called LOC (leaders of our community) and the whole club is basically seniors so when they’re gone next year i’ll be able to have a leadership position
Nice! I did that for my ASL and NHS club too

i’m also going to apply for NHS
i get a lot of service hours with LOC and probably with eco club aswell
A lot of people apply for it so it’s not that special anymore, but it’s a club that has a GPA requirement so having that on your resume can show that you have good grades
okay time to work on the rough draft for senior year
yeah my goal is to keep all As throughout highschool
so far it’s been going good
i know this will be hard but i’m going to try my best
ok im taking chemistry next year so i was considering ap chem for senior year but then i keep seeing people say it’s super difficult and i don’t know whether or not i still would want to do it
i need to wait until i do normal chemistry before i decide that though
to see if i like it
yeah do normal chem first
but i’m still gonna write ap chem in my rough drafts
I don’t wanna dishearten you but my lowest AP score was from AP chem 😭
cause they’re rough drafts for a reason they are meant to be changed
lol
it’s fine
okay should i put ap computer science principals
i hear it’s pretty easy
Only if you’re interested
i mean i would like to try out every field i can and i haven’t had a class in computer science written down yet
it also sounds interesting from the description
Then you should take it
okay 6 spots left
i’m going to put some helpful classes like
college essay
and college and career exploration
those will help with college applications
Oui
You can also put those on your college resume too
“X hours a week researching about colleges etc etc”
yeah
or comprehensive studies of world war 2
What is independent study
you have a class with just you and a teacher
here’s an example
in order to have a senior mock election in our yearbook
someone has to take a independent study and do that
like get the different positions get votes and put it all together yk?
Just u and the teacher?
I see
That sounds fun
Remember to not overload yourself with classes
crime/forensic science is also interesting
that’s why with my last 4 spots i’m picking classes that sound actually interesting to me that won’t have huge workloads
in total with what i have right now i will take a total of 10 ap classes in highschool
out of the 12 that my school offers
wait
yeah
the only two i wouldn’t do are ap stats and ap physics
What are you planning to go into?
i’m not sure yet
My friend is an art major now and she went and took all science AP’s for no reason 😭
dang
Wait what’s his question
idk i really like history so teacher/professor is an option
?
i’ve thought about law
ohh it was way up
Oh ok
They’re just choosing classes
that one i mentioned in general?
4 one trimester spots or
huh?
im making a rough draft of my courses for the rest of highschool
i’m on senior year
where did my pen go
i want to do some fun, non stressful classes with not as much of a workload for the last spots i have
since i already put down 4 aps for senior
i COULD do lifting again butttt idk
that class is only good if you have friends in it to work out with
ohh i could do accounting or mathematics for personal finance
i also need to take in consideration the amount of credits i need but i think that’s probably already covered
oh yeah
the college & career exploration class i put down
basically you fill out scholarship applications, the fafsa, college applications, and research colleges
resume building
prepping for a job interview also
physics is usually taken in 10th grade but i could do it in 12th
OHH
ORGANIC CHEM
also a nice choice
it’s like the second year of college level chemistry
Ok so what are some classes u r thinking about and need help narrowing down
well i don’t have a ton written down
but
some choices are
comprehensive study of WW2
there’s organic chemistry
i could do physics
no js normal
Ok
In my opinion, I would choose organic chemistry and take ap physics junior year
Cuz no reason to take normal physics senior gesr
But if I were u I would choose organic chemistry
yeah seems cool
the only prerequisite is chemistry
i can take ap physics though instead
without taking normal physics
So like if ur already fine with not taking any physics classes earlier on, take organic chem
not a lot of people take physics cause the teachers mention it having more math 💀
Yeah it does but u still need some prior experience
Actually no u don’t
If you aren’t going into a science major I wouldn’t recommend ochem lol
Yeah
the ap physics teacher lets people in without prior experience bc not enough people will sign up 💀
And ap physics also applies to a bunch of different majors, which isn’t as specialized as organic chem
Well yeah in my school all u need to have done is algebra 2
lemme check mine
you just need to have had a B in geometry and algebra 2 or you can take it at the same time as algebra 2
i wanna do it but at the same no because i already have 4 down for this part
i could do ap stats
that’s the other ap i don’t have down at all
which is harder ap stats or ap physics
would you say
oh shoot i need to go to bed
hmm i don’t need to decide tonight i have a while
Yeah
ayo
which do yall suggest
taking an ap comp sci subject
or doubling up in math
What are your priorities and what are you taking rn
ok well algebra 1 rn, and I wanna get through geometry and algebra 2. however i also want to continue down a computer science path for my future
hmm if you can
take dual enrollment
i had a friend who did that
and he skipped geometry
and went straight to algebra 2
and for dual enrollment it goes by quarter
so u can take two classes in one semester
I am interested in game development, coding and generally subjects that involves technology and computer science. What university should i pick? or how do i choose a university in general?? 😭
I am currently in high school, and I have huge interest fo Computer Science. I have learned Web Development and have basic knowledge about C++, JAVA, Python and currently learning Web Development with Python. Can anyone tell what should I do with this knowledge which will help in my college application ?
Hey! I want to go into microbiology/immunology and I'm trying to decide my senior math classes. I was planning on taking both AP Stats and Calc AB, but I'm beginning to realize that I just won't have the time for both. Sports and other courses make evenings busy.😅 Anyone know which math course would be more helpful? Not just for college apps/ courses, but also for application in that field?
Take calc bc
Not offered at my school unfortunately
self study it
and then just take stats at school
I don't have the time for two ap classes or the discipline to self-study
It's stats or AB
calc then
Should I take geometry over the summer so I can take algebra 2?
doesnt rlly matter
AB
If you have the option to then do it. My school doesn’t allow summer classes unless it’s credit recovery so I co-enrolled in both geometry and algebra 2 in the same year
or you could double up on math,up to you.
If does take it over summer, then he would also have space for other classes
yeah
💯
My HS Schedule for the 2024-25 year, Spanish III in the fall virtually, EPF in the spring, and English 10 the following summer, has anyone else taken similiar courses and what are your experiences in them?
Is honors and advanced the same thing
Self study ap csp
It is very ez
And take another ap
i have to take ap CSP for the IT program im in
and there's no other ap classes at my school for sophomores
Nvm then
better to get the hs credit
yeah
there's no honors physics for some reason
so im taking that earlier so i can take AP physics later on
taking APs in all the science subjects
Is that possible
i love science so I want to learn more in different areas
So, I am applying for stem and soon I have to make a video application (prompts are not public yet) and have a list of topics I will try to mention during the video, but does anyone have any overall tips for me?
how are all the units for ap physics 1 im a freshamn planning to take it next yr
Is there anything specific u could suggest so I can prepare for it
Any specific topic you’re finding the hardest or how to study for AP physics
How to study for it and what I should review
really all of the topics are hard to understand, so alot of practice and conceptual knowledges is needed
they're not kidding when they said ap physics is hard
since it is more conceptual based rather than numerical based
(ap physics 1 and 2)
i personally find the conceptual questions difficult since im usually not good at word problems
though it may varies
anyone taking/took AP 2D or 3D art? wbat is the difficulty like
Anyone know what I should take as my 6 subjects if I want to learn mechanical engineering? Or like how it works?
is global perspective a scoring subject in year 10? for igcse
plus can anyone who has gp give tips for IR
Uhhh math and science courses and an engineering course 👍
Computer science always helps too
Why don't you take it junior year?
I want to bc junior year is prob the toughest and it's an easy AP
In state or out of state 😭
Yes if you can
I did it
If they offer it online do that though
Geometry is the least tested subject on the SAT so it doesn't matter
Can anyone who took the ap music theory exam tell me what is on it and some of the example questions
i signed up for 2 ap history classes and my teacher signed for it but someone told me today that it’s not aloud to take 2 ap history classes at the same time so i’m kinda confused
why would that not be allowed?

I haven't taken either but I've had friends who have? So take everything I say with a grain of salt ofc.
From what I've heard the worst part is just meeting deadlines and choosing your own prompts to follow. But if you have the technical skills to be able to work at a decent pace and you walk in with a few concepts in mind it should be fine. I know a few people also had to buy their own supplies as well since our art dept is pretty broke.
Just for reference the pass rate for 2D was 83.6% and 72.1% for 3D in 2023.
How does this look as a schedule for my Junior year next year
- Guitar 1
- AP Calculus BC
- AP Physics 1
- AP US History
- Engineering 3: Computer Integrated Manufacturing Honors
- AICE English Language A
- AP Computer Science A
How does this look as a schedule for my Freshman Year
English 9
Math 2 Honors
Biology Honors
Spanish 1
Global Studies
Health
Business
looks good
really good
nvm it’s fine because my counselor already looked at my paper and changed my world history to ap so if there was anything not allowed she’d prob let me know
Rip
yo lemme go to my room so i can look at my drafts
Ap physics 1
my friend got me a bday present today
Is it your birthday today
no it’s on sunday
i’ll be 15 💪
i need to start drivers training in the spring fr
okay i’m in my@room now
lemme see here
K
i’m also kind of confused
my teacher was talking to another student in my grade who is taking ap lang next year and he said they need to schedule w their counselor to talk about it and he went around telling the others that are gonna but he didn’t say anything to me
and he knows i am taking it
i was the first one that adked
asked
okay
If I keep up my grade for the rest of the year will you put me in for ap lang
well he already did
Ok so you should be fine
he signed my paper and recommended me
if there’s any issues i’ll js see my counselor at the start of the year and change some things around
Ask about the credits transfer in college if you pass the exam
Just ask questions
Even if you know
okay anyways onto the ap stats thingy i was mentioning
so i have 3 aps written down for junior year
OH SHOOT
I CAJT
frixk
i have 2 required 1 trimester courses
Give me an idea
so not enough room for ap stats
hmm
okay
if i want to major in something im passionate about its gonna be american history
Edit: sorry my asian instincts took over
i’m also thinking about law so american history would be fine for undergrad
@elfin hill
Ok so
Math is important for business
And economics
But like
I think it’s less important and less classes to take
Compared to like engineering
Pre law I think
Ap lang will be beneficial for you
If you get the ap lang credit
i’m taking the exams for every ap i take
yeah ap lang will prepare me for that
Look
If you fail the lang exam(you won’t)
You can take it again senior year probably
Still will have to pay money but
yeah
Careful reading
knowing me, i’m going to prepare months in advance 💀
Like
You might have to read a document
In college
That’s where ap history comes in play
i know reading documents and understanding them is also important for apush
Dbq’s= document based questions
for much of what you will do as a pre law student and lawyer involves careful reading and comprehension of judicial opinions, statutes, documents, and other written materials
Found this on a website
so ap history classes can help get experience right
Yes
there’s lots of documents in those
Ap gov
good cause i plan on taking all of them
alr signed up for ap world and apush
Ap gov is like the one you wanna take at least
yeah
Look
I think
Math is still important to have
Like if your good at it
That’s a positive
there is this kid in my spanish’s hi is in ap gov rn and they have like a low gpa but still have like a B in ap gov
yeah
so is it a good track to have taken up to pre calc before taking SAT?
i plan on taking all aps for those
ap lang, ap lit, ap euro, ap gov, apush, ap world
i will most likely buy prep books also
Yes
Because like
This is how I would view it
Like
You already learned the topics
You just need to refresh those
yes
Topics
just go back to things i have probably forgotten
do practice problems for them?
You don’t want to be amazing at reading and writing getting like a 700 on that section
And then getting a low
Score in math
Just not great
Use khan academy to re learn concepts
would it be good to take a practice sat in like a work book or online then see the parts that i did poorly on and refresh on those FIRST
Practice first
mm yeah
take a practice then go back and relearn the things i struggled with
And what you did bad on
No, if you've done a course on the topics, you should take a practice test, and then practice for topics you didn't score well on
is doing 10/12 ap classes offered good?
it’s 3 sophomore year 3 junior year and 4 senior year
Oh wait no that's what you said nvm
Colleges will love that you are challenging yourself
yeah most people in my grade at most are doing 2 ap classes sophomore year
i signed up for 3 let’s hope i get into them all 🤞
is it good
It’s decent book
like bro it’s not necessary
I wanna give u advice
Don’t be too focused about the ap’s you’re gonna take later on they will come
You are doing impressive rn
thanks
Like don’t stress basically
yeah obvi spilt this rough draft is not the final decision
yeah
like i only planned to take apush sophomore year but look now im doing ap lang, apush, AND ap world
yeah i know
Put in effort
i’m going to try to make healthier changes and stuff just so academics come easier
bc i know they are connected
like my sleep schedule isn’t the best
nor is the food i eat
but if i make those better it will help academics and focus
good that you have the ambition to improve in life
mhm
anyways i still need ideas to put in my draft forrrrr senior year
i have a few spots
ik this won’t be final i just like the organization and planning
and to have an idea of possible options
so rn i have
AP chem
AP euro
AP calc
AP csp
college essay
college & career exploration
comprehensive study of WW2
so 3 trimesters left
i could put a full year class or 3 one trimester classes
@elfin hill
ooo crime/forensic science sounds cool
if i did that i could put nutrition as the last spot
yeah that might change to ap stats DEPENDING if i like chem next year
if i like chem i’ll do ap chem
I’d say yea change it
Why do chem and torture yourself when your not going into stem
Related
well if i like chem and thought it wasn’t too bad why couldn’t i take ap chem
Take it
the description says it can be taken if u just love chemistry
Try to find out who the teacher is
i mean u never know my interests could change
i know 2 chem teachers and ik one of them is it
i could find out next year when i have normal chem
i’ll know if my teacher also teaches ap chem
That’s good
if they don’t then i’ll know it’s the other teacher
we do these things called social contracts for classes and they go on the wall and they have the class name on it so it’s pretty easy to find out
you think it’s a good idea that i plan to take 4 years of spanish?
i’m on my second already
Same
I’m in honors Spanish already so might as well do 4 years
cause the teacher is SO nice she’s actually friends with my mom and her teaching style is VERY laid back
we do stories in spanish’s nd we only learn like 4-5 words/phrases each unit
and we don’t take tests
only quizzes and the exam at the end of the trimester
I gtg
Np
ttyl
what are your guys' thoughts on this schedule for junior year, I am trying to maintain a rigorous class schedule: AP Chem, AP Phys 1, AP Calc BC, and AP Psych, and grade level english
and if anyone has personally taken ap chem, phys 1, and calc bc what was ur experience doing this
thanks!
good luck
ok but like literally how
i would actually die
hey!! i have my schedule for next year kind of drafted out and i just want to see if it's ok (im not going for a lot of ap classes) i also am going to a career academy for flim/arts/entertainment/media so it takes up half my day (a b schedule with stem)
flim/arts/etc or adv algbera (algbera 2) and honors chem
ap lang
DE us history
chorus
10 ap classes is wild
Well, whether you can handle it alongside extracurriculars depends on you
I mean... Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
And I'm not even sure how that would be humanly possible unless you're not sleeping at all (jk that's terrible for academics and emotional/physical health)
But everyone has different capabilities
I mean if you genuinely think that you can juggle all that and not hate your year, go for it ig.
I know I chose to only pursue the APs that mattered most to me my junior year and I don't regret it at all.
Ik that if I tried that schedule I would spend every second of my day stressing, probably going into such a stress paralysis that I couldn't get work done.
But everyone is different
**At the end of the day you should prioritize your own well-being over your idea of what your academics "should be". **With even half of that workload I think any college/uni would be thrilled to take you.(minus some of the small, big name ones, but you can be just as successful at a different school)
Oop sorry that's a huge rant. I feel very strongly about workload-health balance lol
It's 5
It's manageable- I took those classes soph yr except AP lit and AP macro. But also keep in mind that those aps are some of the hardest. I had to pause some of my extracurriculars bc of the workload so just be aware.
That’s fine
what grade is this for
junior/11th
what does DE mean
dual enrollment
I'm personally going to college for art + writing, if that helps you any lol
i probably will, and then ap gov. i may go with de english though
but i probably will do ap lit
yeah either of those options are good
i am also taking ap lang next year
but as a sophomore
heres my class choices for sophomore year:
thats cool!! i personally wasn't a honor student last year but got moved up in some subjects this year
ap lang, apush, ap world, algebra 2, spanish 3, computer applications, chemistry
nice my school doesnt have honors
How much of those can u choose
that seems to be a good schedule, i would just be careful with the work load esp with apush
my teacher + the workload is why im not doing apush and doing dual enrollment instead
required is world history (but ap world also works), algebra 2, computer apps, and chem
11th grade english would be required but im allowed to take ap lang
Ok first of all take ap world
spanish 3 and apush are my electives
i think you could do it!
yeah i am challenging myself because i basically put in no effort with the classes i have rn
and i have all A's
that happened to me last year lol. i put in no effort and got high As
WELL i have a A- and a B but its mid trimester and grades flunctuate
i do think you could do it, i would just be prepared to put in a ton of effort
i wasnt prepared for that and may have struggled in bio
the A- is geoemtry but i have a quiz coming up that will raise my grade and a test in like 2 weeks that will significantly raise my grade
geometry is my enemy
like normal bio or ap
honors bio
i hate geometry but its not that hard
i like bio im taking ap in junior year
my classes rn are: geo, bio, spanish 2, strength, health, 10th english
thats cool! i personally struggle a lot in science so i think honors is my limit
next tri i also have modern history, historical novels, and us history B
as you can probably tell my fav subject is history lol
i used to hate science but i think its because i hated all of my past teachers
all my teachers (besides this year) have sucked for science
same
i had my least favorite one two years in a row
yeah.. but he's gone now so im fine LOL
i have a bio quiz on monday over cellular respiration but thats pretty easy so i dont need to study
omg i remember doing that last semester. i struggled hard with it
the krebs cycle...
LOL
i found dna and protein creation easier LOL
here are my current grades
english: 100%
biology: 100.46%
geometry: 90.25%
health: 98.5%
strength: 84% (they rarely put in grades n grade on attendance and i had a lot of absenses lol for appointments)
spanish; 98.54%
ok thats it
i calculated it and if i miss as little days as possible the rest of the trimester then ill have an A at the end
mine are:
hc world history: 96%
hc american lit: 97%
hc bio: 89%
hc adv comp + grammar: 91%
spanish 1: 97%
chorus: 100%
geometry: 90%
this is for last semester, before Christmas
gives room for a lot more classes, but more exams
ok here we go
english: 96.8%
biology: 100%
geometry: 96.55%
spanish: 99.89%
us history: 100.68%
website design: 104.44%
ok thats all
with your us history grade i would expect you could apush!!
yeah
last year, in 8th grade, i had us history aswell and each trimester i had over 100
yeah, you could definitely do it
i will also have ap lang which will help my writing in apush!!
yeah!!
next trimetster i have: geometry, biology, english, modern history, historical novels, us history
nice!
yeah, i hate shapes
wiat i have a AITA situation rn
AITA for kicking my friend's cousin out of our groupchat because im uncomfortable with them, even though its their birthday and i didnt say happy birthday before i kicked them because i forgot?
yeah
we have another friend in the gc named alex so i kept confusing me with the names also
someone js commented that i couldve at least said happy bday
but im human and i forget things

tell them u forgot
i did
what they say
they didnt reply
best wishes they understand that u forget
yeah thanks
i have another question
so i signed up for two ap history classes, and i was told yesterday by a sophomore that having 2 at once is not allowed. I dont understand why that wouldnt be allowed but i said ok. I waited and checked my course registration page and world history was changed to AP world history. Which means that my counselor looked at my paper and changed that. Knowing that my counselor looked at it, wouldnt you think she would let me know if 2 ap history classes at the same time wasnt allowed?
what- why wouldnt it be allowed? Im assuming that it's actually allowed, but for the clearest answer, you should ask your counsilor.
one of my theory is that it's actually not allowed but ur a special case so they made exceptions for u
she also said something about its the counselor's choice
so maybe it depends on if your counselor thinks you can handle it
yea
they probably look back at your grades (having a B average in past history courses is a requirement) and decide whether or not they think you can handle it
so im js gonna leave it alone and
if they use my alternates on my schedule instead of one of the AP history classes, ill just see my counselor at the beginning of the year to ask about it
just hoping theres no issuees
im not the most social person so if i dont have to talk to my counselor i would rather not lol
lmao
ik its good to talk with them but at the same time i dont have much of a reason to yet
ill probably talk to them more in junior and senior year when talking about college
mhm
one thing im confused abt is why do ur counsilor made decisions for u tho, i mean its your decisions and plan that'll influence your future (college stuff)
well it is also a requirement to have a B average in past history classes so they have to look at that
wow, ppl in ur skl r just smart
oh damn-
wait, i misread sprryy
thought u said at least a B average for all classes
yeah its an average so it counts every trimester of every history class so you could fail one and do decent in the others and still have a B average
mhm
Course selections are coming up in a few months. What should I pick to ensure I get in a decent college? This is for highschool course selection BTW
Hey guys, I have to choose courses in 2 weeks and was wondering if there's a big difference between 4.7 and 4.8? Or would it have abt the same difference on college apps
hey course selections happened for me a month ago and I still have time to mess around with the schedule since thing won’t be confirmed till the summer. For 11th , I plan to take almost all AP Courses; Ap Lang, Ap Pre-Calculus,, Ap Physics, Ap U.S History . For electives; Newspaper or Yearbook , AP Research, and Principles of Engineering . My school works on an A-B Schedule ; Each day alternates between A (1st period to 4th period) and “B Days”(5th to 8th Period) Additional I plan to be in many clubs and extracricuulars. Is this manageable?
mix rigorous courses with courses you genuinly want to take
hopefully most of them will check both boxes
I think they are around the same
Alot of ppl are failing ap precalculus in my school here but its mainly algebra for 1st half
Is ap pre cal rigorous?
Dude
Don’t do pre calc
Its a waste of time
Calc is easier and more effective
how
Skip it
u have alg 2 base right?
not honors alg 2 tho
truee
precalc doesn’t exist at a college level
Idk why its even a ap course
Taking it has 0 effect
just don’t take math or do ap stats then
they dont bave honors pre cal no more for my school
its jst on-lvl pre calc and ap pre calc
u do have a point
u only need alg 2 for calc
rlly?
Ye
Pre calc is a good foundation tho
i want a good foundation
alg 2 covers most of alg 1 basics and i assume some trig
i’ll jst take non-honars pre calc if its not worth the money
just take calc
Its one of the easiest aps
u only need like 60% to get a 5
dude i have so many aps
And the multiple choice section is like free
its easier than ap psych
im not taking psych
ap lang, ap research, ap us history is alot already
jst need a math credit
idk if it worth taking it in the summer for 50bucks
Wait why do u wanna skip precalc
me?
Ye
i dont wanna skip pre calc
its alot to manage for the year
taking it in the summer maybe allows me an off period
Ohh
Thats pain
i know
Well are u taking ap one
I meant Ap precalc over summer
ohh
they jst offer normal pre calc
i dont think they offer any Ap courses over the summer
Oh
yea
Ya just take reg over summer
i’ll do that
What should i chose , ACT or IGCSE ? ( I am going to take the SAT exam , and the TOEFL exam cuz english isn't my main language ) ( also i want to study in europe or any contry were it is safe and living isn't that expencive like turkey or singapore )
Hi I'm a freshmen and recently I just moved to an AP school
I'm trying to figure out which courses to take and also which ECs I have to do,
My main interest is neuroscience and psychology
Can anyone suggest which courses (AP®ular) I should take and what activities I should do?
I'm really lost on where to start and how to develop during the high school years to go into college
Dyk what math level u r at?
Idk what an AP skl is, but I. Assuming that’s it’s skl that offers AP classes.
According to your main interest, I’d really focus on that. Take AP science course along with the psychology. AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP psychology, anatomy, and other classes that would help you in the field.
Does the skl give out course selections document or smth?
For extracurricular, you can join clubs that matches your interests, like psychology club, mental health awareness club, science club, whatever club there is. However, you should join other extracurricular that you like too like sports. If there’s no club that qualifies for your interest then start your own club! It can look really good on your portfolio too. Feel free to DM if you have other questions
I can help you plan your high skl courses, my skl made me do that
I want to shadow a pi of a lab but do they know what that means
do you guys know when you should consider on possibly getting a college councilor, or if you should even get one at all. Basically, like what grade. I am not sure what I should be doing
and i also do not know what are the best courses for me to take in 9th grade even though we have limited options for freshman year
they usually aren't worth
100k well spent😂
idk lol, im glad i asked before
should i take a summer course for alg 2 and take non honors precalc in the fall or continue to hon alg 2 next year
Currently a freshman
my school has a lot of prereqs for half the aps
i can easily spread out my courses then
I suggest not taking alg 2 over the summer
It goes over very key fundamental concepts which you need to be successful in higher ap classes
If you go through it too fast and not learn enough in depth knowledge you will greatly struggle in future courses
Pre calc is pretty much rev of algebra 2- that's a good plan
what can i do to be in the student council in gr 9
In my experience, it’s a popularity contest. Go talk to people, make your name known. If you guys do videos and or posters, make them funny and memorable. Yeah it’s good to talk about the things you plan to do about being a good student council member, but more times than not, people are going to vote for the person they’re friends with. And if they don’t know either candidate, they’re going to vote for the most memorable one. Not the one that made a 2 minute video about what they’re going to do in student council
ok thanks
I don’t think student council matters that much right?
It can
Should i drop down to regular biology from honors biology? My school doesnt offer ap bio, and honors isnt weighted in my school. If drop i can spend more time doing extracurriculars. Should I do it?
no bc it looks bad and if u take ap it’ll be easier
But i am majoring in CS tho
Don't drop it, it'll look like you gave up half way.
Even if it isn't weighted, universities still care about harder courses.
Actually, they don't ever care about the weighting by your school and instead prefer the hardest courses
They usually calculate your weighted gpa again themselves based on what you tell them about the courses you took
Well colleges calculate their own weighted gpa. Also, colleges prefer a B+ in a honors class over an A in a normal class
guys! my parents gave me 3 more days to chose
help please !
Whats the difference between between ACT and IGSSE
If you’re taking SAT, there’s not much of a reason to take the ACT unless you do bad on the SAT and realize that you don’t like it and want to try the ACT
If you decide to do DE, you’ll want to make sure that UA actually accepts those credits
And then look at what AP credits they accept
Depending on the class and the score needed on the exam
I think he's saying take classes at UA for DE
state school college courses hold more meerit than community college
so honestly maybe those
I’ve always wanted to go into structural architecture like designing houses but never know if i need to take chemistry or not. A lot of the university courses i’m looking at don’t require chemistry as a prerequisite but i’m realizing if i don’t take chemistry there’s not a lot of other options. Right now i have all physics then i’m going into AP math. Would i be able to go into any architecture if i don’t take chemistry and what other similar careers can i do without chemistry
so my school has this system where when u apply to AP classes, they weigh ur prerequiste course grade and gpa. im thinking of taking either ap bio or apush. the problem is, my chances of getting into ap bio are lower, and my chances for getting into apush are higher. i would like to take ap bio but im stuc because i want it to be guaranteed that i get into an AP course, so im thinking of applying to apush instead because my chances are better. is this the right thing to do?
don't avoid chemistry 💀
why u avoiding chem?
I want to be an engineering or comp sci major is AP bio even worth taking?
I assume no but I’m curious to ask
I don’t like bio very much
Why would you not be guaranteed a ap course?
Tf
If its just a course u would just apply and get it
just self study then
Dont take it
Its not worth it
Do physics and chem instead
I mean if there’s space, then why not, otherwise it’s fine and leave it
Guys
What kind of not stressful 1 period AP class should I take if I have a free space in my schedule?
Idk which ones are the options
Like AP computer science, English electives like speech, etc
Was hoping it could be an ap class but I’m open to other options as well
I’m a major biology nerd
And I love science
ap bio?
there is space but I heard it’s hard
I’m taking it
and I’m bad at bio
i heard ap es is ez
Can someone tell me the difference between AP Bio and AP Physics 1. Moreover, which is more rigourous and useful for college?
what would you recommend to someone whose going to majro in Economics
ig AP physics?
idk
ok
because it’s just adding to my workload. if i don’t need to take it then i don’t want to. i’ve seen the grade 11 work and it looks like it would have 0 relevance to architecture
so don’t take chem then?
cuz if i don’t take chem it really limits my other options if i decide to go a different path then architecure
then take chem?
with ap gr 12 math and gr 12 media?
that’s what i don’t know
is it worth risking the difficulty
what is ap gr 12 math
advanced placement grade 12 math
is it calc ab? bc? pre calc? etc?
Should I take Spanish 3 or AP Stats junior year? Basically the reason I’m considering Spanish 3 is because it’s “colleges like it when u have language”, the reason I’m considering AP Stats is because I wanna take it, however, I could take it senior year with ap calc bc, and the reason
idk probably pre calc if i had to guess
just do both at cc during the summer and its faster and easier and better
Bro u can take different math when ur at that level l
I can’t
y
I live in Iowa, they don’t let us do that
yeah neither do we i’m in ontario
it’s just a pathway they let us take if we r good at math
Essentially, I’m just asking if it’s a good idea to take ap stats with calc bc
regular chem is actually very easy
but y
Or is it too much of a workload?
Cuz it’s not a thing?
cc isnt a thing in iowa?
What does that stand for, lemme look it up
Also is it a good idea to take ap stats with ap calc bc
just do stats during the summer so that u can have more math knowledge before u do bc
Let’s say if I couldn’t do it over the summer
No, stats aren’t related to calc, im just asking if it’s too much of a workload
So what does CC stand for
the averages in the other classes right now are high 60s low 70s
idk, everyone has their own limitations and its hard to tell rn without knowing ur prior grades and workload
Hmm, well
I’m doing geometry in 8th
Do u think I would be fine doing AP stats and AP calc bc
community college
Oh, I want to take the classes in high school
so i don’t know how much it would be limiting my options if i don’t take chem if i go into university programs surrounding architecture and design. i know it will restrict me from taking almost all engineering programs but what else could i take around that without chem
u have a long ways to go before u do bc. and idk if its honors or nonhonors and what grade u have
and just saying 1 course ur taking doesnt rlly help, i need to know all of it
Geometry, non honors, in 8th, with 99.4%
There’s no other advanced courses in 8th, it’s all set
And geometry isn’t even formally recognized as advanced
so ur just doing geometry and thats it?
Ok, all classes are the same, except for a few electives, and the level of ur math
That’s all
uhh sure.. its hard to tell cuz ms courses and hs courses is very different but with the right resourses and support, im sure u can do well
Alright thanks
yo is it possible to take a math class during the summer
can any1 give me some advice for senior year classes next year
and currently in the US
Ok so I'm currently a freshmen, and I'm doing course selections. I think I want to either take ap bio or ap chem, or I wanna take ap comp sci principles. I will only have time for one. What is more worth?
Should I skip ap comp sci principles and wait until junior year to take ap comp sci A?
Feel free to @ me if questions
Save Ap bio and chem for later
Is bachelor of business administration is worth to do in graduation
Should I take ap physics I in sophomore year?
Yeah sure
im currently in spanish 3 honors as a freshman and im planning to take spanish for 2 more years, but im struggling big time in spanish (im talking Cs) and i cant drop out of honors as it is pass the deadline. would it look bad if i just took spanish 4 and instead of honors next year? also how much of a red flag is it to have a C in spanish 3 honors as a freshman? (my school calculates gpa at the end of the year only: by talking the averages of the 4 mps)
No, u shouldn’t struggle
With Spanish so u can go to normal Spanish next year
The only negative is that ur gpa took a hit
