i mean if its intro then they'd probably teach you how to code
check with your counselor tho
💀 yes its a highschool class dw lol
unless ur going to some olympiad highschool u will be fine
whats an olympiad?
aaa
that’s cool
i’m going highschool next year and applying for early college and i hope o do well 😬
because they say there’s consequences if u don’t do well in early college
i just want to be able to balance everything out and not procrastinate
Has anyone done a bridging course at uni? If so, lmk ♡
How?
Don’t u need Spanish 4 as a prerequisite
U can do that?
yeah
Our school you can’t
Also ap Spanish 5 is extremely hard from what I heard
i did spanish 1 in 7th grade and then i skipped spring of last yr
i know 😦
eh
I mean I can't say anything bc spanish comes easy to me
and I took ib spanish instead
but all of my friends in ap spanish 5 are doing decent
heard the exam sucks tho
There is AP Spanish Lang and AP Spanish Lit.
yea lit is 5 and lang is 4
can anyone give me some tips on how to do well
bc i really need that
thx so much guys
do well in general or certain classes giving you trouble?
like in spanish 5
let’s not jinx it but like
the only high school clases i’m takin are bio adv and geometry and i start health when i go back from the break
if u have any tips for both spanish and in general that’s good
thx
quizlet is your best friend
for vocab
alr
Im planning to take AP chem next year (sophomore year) and I am wondering what website would help me prepare for it the best
u should try Khan Academy
Guys I actually need help asap-- Im self studying AP csp and I haven't touched any material yet. Do u guys rec any sites??
code.org has step by step lessons
thats what my class uses
they also have videos
i would also get the self study books
my class uses CS50 from Harvard
This is CS50 AP, Harvard University's introduction to the intellectual enterprises of computer science and the art of programming for students in high school, which satisfies the College Board's AP Computer Science Principles (CSP) curriculum framework. Students in high school may receive AP credit for this course provided their school approves ...
that's the website we pull from ^^^
has notes and everything
music
Vocal or concert band
orchestra
r u a native speaker
no
Anyone here take research and a bunch of other APs? Ik a bunch of people in research and they always are swamped with work. i wanna take research, bc, csa, span, chem, stat, and maybe phys c mechanics next year
Rn in taking APWH, APCSP, AP Micro, APMacro, APCSA...next year im taking AP Physics 1, AP Chemistry, AP Stats (sadly AP Research/Seminar is not offered in my school :()
damn
but I'm pretty sure for both
that was probably harder
it's no new tenses
oh
only like vocab in use
for my class yeah
might be different curriculum at your school
imma spam duolingo then
yeah
did u use duolingo for stuff
if u needs help
acc it’s fine
i get what ur saying
thx so much bro
nah I used quizlet
quizlet is amazing
and I already finished duolingo for spanish in my summer before freshman year
is ap art history hard?
alr thanks
I choose my high school classes for freshmen year , idk what I should take 😭
how hard is it to take ap physics c without having taken ap physics 1?
I wanna do ap physics c next year bc I think it'll be relevant to my major
but I haven't done ap physics 1
should i skip to c or just do physics 1
cus next yr is my senior yr
Quick poll for my AP psych class: how many APs did you do sophomore year??
Just remember that physics c is calculus based while physics 1 is algebraic
well let's compare both the prerequisites
AP Physics 1 Prerequisites
You should have completed a geometry course and be concurrently taking Algebra II or an equivalent course.
AP Physics C (both)
You should have taken calculus or be taking calculus at the same time as this course.
there are no physics prerequisites in both ap courses so yes you can take ap physics c if your school allows it.
BUT it is HIGHLY recommended that you have SOME sort of physics knowledge before entering ap physics c
so TL;DR you can take ap physics c if your school allows it, but it's highly recommended to have some sort of physics knowledge first
4
1
3
I’ve heard it’s really difficult
Without physics 1
Because the concepts are essentially the same(with some extra stuff) but presented at a deeper level and with calculus instead
But it’s difficult if you don’t have an algebra based understanding first
Oh really. My school requires either ap physics 1 or ap physics 1 and 2 before C
So far 0 👍(not even freshman yet)
I have an 85 in my AP human class as a freshman is this good or bad?
Isn't AP out of 5
No like my average
That’s test
He means like his grade not his exam score
Do people care about AP grades?
No it uses ur overall grade
Ur ap final exam is what determines if u get the credit for college or not im pretty sure
And colleges like it if u get 4-5
Huh well colleges don't usually ask for your AP exam score do they
U state what u got on the final exam on your common app im pretty sure
I thought they just asked for your AP grade
Or like
There was one thing
I am confusing myself
No cuz ur ap grade goes into ur gpa
And they ask for ur gpa
Man I wish I had good courses in my school 😔
We have no courses beside the stuff everyone does
Wdym
Btw did y'all know cbse is apparently completing changing class 10 board subject selection?
Huh
They're making it so that you need to choose 1 science subject, 1 social science subject, three languages, three subjects like music, physical education and dance, and one from a miscallaneous subject list (Ex: Commercial studies or something like that, psychology)
And maths
Or computer science
3 languages??
Yeah we have three languages until class 8 currently
They want to make it three langauges until class 10, and 2 for 11,12
Ok
So we're going to have 3 languages + 4 subjects (1 science, 1 social science, 1 math/ computer, and 1 miscellaneous) and 3 non tested subjects for classes 6-10 💀
I know
They're gonna make it very customisable
Right now we get no choice
I think they're gonna have to let us have different classes for seperate subjects then
Bro my school offered child development classes as a freshman
And apparently marching band gives you a pe credit
Rn we just have one classroom we sit in all day for all of school
Really but ur a freshman?
In classes 11,12, there is a technical choice, but we only have three real choices, and get alloted a section, so we still sit in one class
Yes
That’s weird
And even with the new system, that could stay
I know, it's a bad system
But they are forcing a choice noe
Either they lay off teachers who teach 6-10 physics, chem, and bio, and only give you one choice, or they don't sit in one room all day
It's possible to make it work with little changes
Just make them go to a certain classroom for physics, one for bio, one for chem, but it could defo get complicated when too many choose a certain subject
I'm not gonna be able to choose subjects ofc, but it'll be interesting to see stuff unfold
my school have ap physics 1, but next year they're planning to remove ap physics 1 and replace it with ap physics c (both ap in 1 class)
one of the prerequisites is taking or has taken a calculus course, taken a physics course, and have pass the algebra 2 assessment
so it really depends on ur school
For my school the prereq for physics c is physics 1 and calculus
Oh
For physics C we have to have calc concurrently
im taking ap calc ab rn (junior)
and also taking ap physics 1
so i will definitely meet the requirement to get into physics c
Does your school require you to do AB before BC
Same here
Although they reccomend u take AP Physics I
If I have no experience with physics should I take AP physics C next year as a junior[I’ll be taking AP calc BC with it] I have also taken AP chem if that helps
No
Take atleast ap physics 1
Where do I find the quizzes for which course to take in college?
Don’t rely on a quiz, you need to find what interests you and pursue that
Chem won’t help. I’m taking Physics 1 right now and I just have to say it’s pretty damn hard even though I took Honors Physics last year
I have taken a normal physics class, where I've done problems using trig + algebra but not ap physics 1
Do these straighterline college courses actually help for admissions and in college?

hey guys..i need some help regarding admission into US colleges..would be grateful if anyone with experience could help
I have done a lot of research, what exactly are your questions?
i had some doubts regarding admission into MIT
Yeah, go ahead
I've personally done a lot of research into MiT, as it's my dream school too
like whatall olympiads hold the most significance, and as a high school sophomore what all activities can i pick up for a good profile
ohk thats awesome
moreover im an international student so education patterns might be vastly different
When it comes to olympiads, generally qualifying for international level olympiads, or participating in them, where the qualification requirements are difficult, can show a great deal of initiative and competency to the school, and obtaining multiple medals on the final levels of said olympiads is one of the only "fool proof" ways to get a high chance of admission to the college
Ofc even if you score very well on olympiads, but are otherwise shallow, you probably won't be admitted
They generally don't care about your education pattern, besides just scoring well in whatever system you have
And taking as difficult a course as is possible for you
alright..so as compared to other things i think olympiads do hold importance..will it be helpful if i do a couple olympiads in my country
Generally, if you go deep into anything you love, it would be great
as in till the national level
If you are a part of your national team, or get a national level medal
yes id want to do that but im unable to understand how to obtain like a teaching internship or a research project
the only method i was exposed to was through school
Something like the IPhO, the IChO, and International Maths Olympiad, and ISEF
You could try cold emailing, the template is in #📎ㆍresources
Internships are quite difficult in high school, you could always just look online for your area
moreover, ive been taking coaching classes for IITJEE since 9th grade, so i was thinking of continuing in 11th and 12th, as they can help in qualifying for IOQM ICho IPho RMO etc...and by doing that i can also give the jee as backup, that is if im able to score a decent rank
because thats tthe only method ik to be able to do olympiads efficiently
Ofc, getting a coaching is often a great help due to getting training from experienced professionals
yeah, but alot of ppl say that SAT is widely different from JEE, which might be true, but for the least, the math and sc of sat will be easier after jee prep..and will obv also help in olympiads
However, when relying on the JEE as a backup, you should ensure that you don't end up spending more time on it, only to not spend not enough time to be able to give it to your fullest
yes exactly
that was my major concern
SAT and JEE prep are parallel to each other
if thats true then its cool, becuause then i dont have to do anything new, just focus on my coaching plus a few extracurriculars
Where JEE focuses on a calculational and scientific syllabus, SAT is based on English and the math section is wildly easier than the JEE, and you should focus on speed with the graphing calculator instead
No no
Parallel as in they don't connect at all
ohkkk
Ok I can see how that's confusing 💀
It sounded fine in my head 😔
You probably should, yes.
You need to focus on one, US admissions, or JEE
but so amany students give jee, get a decent rank and then go to mit
yeah probably
Most of those students also go to international level olympiads
yes
so i mean is there any point in continuing my fiitjee coaching if im more focused on mit
Of course
What i mean is, you should always make sure that you're planning out your extracurriculars, SAT, IELTS, and other things that you need for the SAT, and make sure that you put in enough effort and energy into the olympiads themselves
Is your physics c class both e and m and mechanics
Or
Just mechanics
Or just e and m
Which class are you in?
🎉
im in 10th grade, that wld be sophomore year of high school
ohh
How do I choose my subjects for College?
What college are you going to
Because sometimes ot depends
ur major? or classes
Classes
I'll get decide the major later
Well it's not a college per say
College and “College” are two different things
It's like a pre college
Idk
?
I mean just take classes that relate to your major
And don’t take classes that are early on the morning
How tf do I apply for internships or research projects man these professors just say once u complete ur post grad u can join us not before 😂
Anywho what are your opinions on going to a school which offers an IB diploma program instead of my current cbse hs?
then email different profs
Ik many ppl who’ve gone from cbse to ib dm me
its both
I tried asking professors but most of them do look for more qualified students - I found sucess in asking tech companies/startups instead. Try finding stuff in your local area and ask them
I will say that having a lot of experience + some sort of portfolio/resume helps a good bit
Do I need to know coding to take AP CS
For CSP you don’t need to know any
CSA you should probably get some practice in to understand the logic a bit better
Oh ok
tip, dont take apcsp
Better tip:
Take APCSP if:
- Your school uses CS50 curriculum
- You have little - mid CS experience
Do not take APCSP if:
- Your school does not use CS50 curriculum
- You have mid - high CS experience
Why not
I have no cs exp
tbh apcsp is pointless, just self teach some coding and take apcsa
My school sadly doesnt offer ap cs a 😦
i'd would only take apcsp for a gpa boost
since apcsa teaches you an actual coding languages, while apcsp goes over how computer works and the logic behind coding
and apcsa already teaches you how computer works and the logics
there's really no point of ttaking apcsp except gpa boost
I wouldn't say so with CS50. Currently taking it and I wouldn't have learned some of this nearly as good on my own
and a lot of the people in my class are actually struggling? which beats me because the class is still really easy and practically a free grade
but with a good teacher and CS50 it makes a difference
I'd say find out what curriculum your school uses because from what I've heard, code.org APCSP sucks
all I know is that CS50 is pretty great
anything outside those two Idk
self study java for 2 weeks and you'll be fine
Should I drop Spanish next year to take an extra AP class?
Currently I’m at 2 years of Spanish
I mean colleges like to see 4 years
hi
Can someone please explain what are AP classes because I come from India and we don't have that kind of stuff
Ap or honors classes are just above grade average
So it is ap for advanced placement
So if you want to be more challenged I'm English you might consider taking AP (advanced placement) english
@stray crystal For example in India we don't have stuff like that ... And i want to take admission in MIT so will I be at some loss????
Generally you could say that they don't care about it when it isn't available to you, but realistically, for admission from India you need to be really good at whatever you do, and course rigor, while appreciated, generally isn't necessarily going to get you anywhere
No not at all loss
They look at what your school offers
But you could try IB
Or A levels
Also yeah MIT for India is about 1% or less
Thanks for the help
Thank you for telling me
you can give ap exams if you're in india
but the schools don't offer ap classes
plenty of online resources, though
How much more impressive would it be to colleges if I take PDEs my senior year as opposed to just having finished DiffEq at the end of junior year
Like would it realistically be worth the effort to go down to a uni
Thanks for telling
It would definitely be impressive and show a great deal of course rigor, but we can't for sure say how much "more impressive" it'll be. No real way to quantify it
But rule of thumb is that while course rigor is helpful, and when applying to top colleges, it's essentially required, your Academic Scores + ECs + Essays will always be looked at more
That’s fair I mean I understand it can’t be quantified to any real extent but like take a program like collegevine will just look at your total college course amount but it can’t do specifics like that where I believe this would show a lot but I’m also not an AO
and off essays, test scores, and EC’s mean more but there’s not much in the way of opportunities where I am lol and I’m trying to do well on the other things 😭
Yeah but at the same time I’m technically taking a more challenging course
Yeah idk
It’s what im going through
Whether in 10th grade if I should drop Spanish
But I would say keep it
Ok but think about other schools u will apply to
Breh I hate Spanish it’s my worst class I might drop it next year
They all only have a 2 year requirement
And on my application I could just say I had to drop it even though “I didn’t want to”
I would do 3 atleast
Because I wanted to challenge myself
Also what’s a 4.3 on a 5.0 scale but on a 4.0 scale
Probably like a 3.45 or so
anyone know the best way to get dual enrollment courses?
Find your local community college and take course from them
Bad
Is this like weighted gpa with honors
Yeah no AP
input your grades transcript into a highschool GPA calculator. A 4.3 weighted GPA could result in a lot of different possible unweighted GPAs, it's all depending on what letter grades you got overall.
Alr
Is A* and A (specifically alevels) regarded as the same thing for American grades
For us A is like 81- 90 and A* is like 91 - 100
Im a freshman and did my course selection for sophomore yr is it a dumb idea for me to double up on science (chem and physics) while also doubling on med courses (my school allows us to have endorsements) and taking ap pre calculus and WHAP
Bro I’m doing chem and physics as sophomore next yr too
Which ones specifically?
I’m doing chem honors and ap physics
Idk how ur scheduling works but in our school we have 7 classes and block schedules r when u have certain periods on certain days
Like on Mondays we have all 7 on Tuesdays and Thursdays we periods 1 3 5 7
And on Wednesdays and Fridays we have periods 2 4 6 and a study hall
i used to have rhat in ms
Same
Ye that’s what I’m doing
Chem Honors and AP Physics
Chem honors in my school is free because of the teacher so I don’t try too hard in that class
AP Physics on the other hand . . .
You actually need to try
Heya! What should i try to do for highschool? I want to go study business Analytics in the future!
There’s a bunch of business classes highschools offer
Thank you!
Np
Ppl keep telling me that doing both is like a bad idea but chem isnt that bad cuz ik some sophomores and ppl takin it and ap physics idk abt that one im doin pretty good in alg 2 but im not sure just just being good at math will cut it
Both are really hard
No trust me
Math is not everything
It’s extremely concept based
I’ll probably study in the summer to get ahead then
I would get a tutor through the year
He’ll help you unit by unit and during the AP Exam
Or she
Mb
My tutor is a guy so by instinct i said he
Chem is required and AP Physics is optional. They’re completely different fields of science so it shouldn’t be too bad
Ask chatgpt 4 for any questions u might have
u don’t need one
What med courses are there?
You mean like honors A&P
Or Bio and Psych
*AP
Would there be a point to taking the AP Precalc ap test and the ap calc bc test
Would it get me anymore college credit or help in anyway?
You can do it
Chem honors and ap physics
My friend is doing that
That should be fine
Ap precalc isn’t really a real ap
Whap is also pretty broad concept stuff so that should be fine
And that med courses thing soph year is cool! It’s nice that your school offers career prep early
My courses are open for registration
I wanna take 10 aps in total so I'm taking 4 AP my junior year
I'm figuring out some other AP courses as well as advice on AP seminar
My list of classes I am interested right now are
AP seminar
AP csa (AP bio if I can't take it)
AP environmental science
AP us history
I've taken AP psych and AP cs principles
Ap seminar is not difficult
Ap environmental science easy but have to put in effort
I’m taking ap us history right now
It’s not bad depends on teacher but requires a lot of effort
Have to stay on top of your work
Ap bio id push it off to senior year
But depends on your major
Are you interested in the field of biology
I'm thinking it or medical
All the ap’s you listed here are not bad
I'm leaning more into IT tho
Ik
I’d push it off to senior year in my opinion but just my preference
Yeah AP bio is just a safety option because I can't take AP csa
Ap seminar isn’t bad
Easier than lang and lit
Yeah no I'm not taking those classes 💀
Lang is useful
But like
Look
Try and see if you know anyone who took those classes
I have some friends and I can ask them to link them with me
Because yk apush maybe you have a teacher in your school who is strict
I'm debating on taking AP stats instead of environmental science because it feels very out of place for my field
Sophmore year I have a 3.98 unweighted (because of my eng honors A-)
I believe I have a 4.14 weighted which can be boosted to a 4.3-4.4 gpa if I get straight As
Also I'm probably going to be doing something in business
Would there be a point to taking the AP Precalc ap test and the ap calc bc test
Would it get me anymore college credit or help in anyway?
if you do well yeah, esp if youre planning to apply to competitive schools ap calc is kind of standard regardless of major
if you mean taking ap pre calc AND bc in the same year though then no, doing well in cal bc implies you already know pre calc content. it wouldnt be beneficial in any way, do one or the other
Wouldn’t it get me more college credit tho
Also I would take the Precalc test this year (im already in a precalc class) and I would do bc next year
sure but if you already showed proficiency in a higher level, proving you can do something below that is unnecessary. if you take calc bc, pass w an A and score a 5 on exams, youre automatically (most of the time) assumed to be at a calc 2 level regardless if you took pre cal or whatever before
AP Statistics, AP Comp Sci, AP Government, AP Lang, AP World
These are my junior year AP’s
that sounds fine, lots of students go from pre cal to cal bc. but if youre only doing it for the "college credit" its unnecessary
Pre calc os for people who want to pass off on the math requirement
In college
If you’re going after a STEM or Business major
Then I wouldn’t do it
But if it’s like a major in the arts category then it’s good
So I could get college credit. Also I want to be a math professor, not that, that changes anything tho
Then I wouldn’t do it
Because those who take AP Precalc are rushing to finish the math requirements in high school
You aren’t rlly showing anything to colleges by doing that
ap pre calc is unnecessary if your only goal is to get college credit and if youre already planning to take bc. pre calc college credit wont matter if youre going to get something above that later on
Exactly, if you’re not studying pre calc in college then there is no point in using it for credit
Ok that does make sense. Thanks man
Should I be taking Statistics alongside calc bc?
if you want, theyre not complementary courses or anything
if you plan on majoring in stem it could be good to have taken both to show interest, but taking them simultaneously wont give you any extra advantage necessarily
I just don’t want to take them both at the same time
then dont
AP Statistics, AP Comp Sci, AP Government, AP Lang, AP World
Should I take these next year
if you can handle it.. im not sure i could handle 5 aps in one yr
No my school has like endorsements students can choose like business, med, cosmetology, and a bunch of others. Depending on your endorsement, you take certain courses in a specific order based on grade level like for me I’m doing principles of Health science and med term cuz i couldn’t do POHS this year
Im doin it rn and its pretty easy. Though, it is based on your teacher. In the beginning, its more based on your knowledge of algebra 1, but kinda adds more complexity with different functions.
Yeah by freshman year you should be in Algebra 2
would ap bio or apush be easier? (also taking physics along if i do take ap bio)
Damn rlly
Algebra 2 is our accelerated path for freshman
But it’s light
i mean they're two completely different fields
so it depends on ur strengths/interests/major
lol after 9th grade u have to take ap pre calc if u want to get into ap calc ab cuz there’s no normal pre calc after 9th
Same
Ap physics and ap bio will be tougher than apush
Is 4 aps in sophomore yr overwhelming
I also have band and science Olympiad and fbla
Probably more
Btw guys what do y'all think about ibdp vs cbse for MiT?
Fbla?
That depends
Physics C for sure
Physics 1 depends
yes
different schools do things differently. ap pre cal was never offered at mine, i never even took pre cal, but i still took ap bc
so shoudl I not take ap bio and ap phsyics at the same time?
Should I do mostly college classes or mostly Ap classes? As a freshman I’m taking 2 Ap classes and I was thinking of finishing capstone and doing college classes only. What should I do?
AP
These are my classes so far. What should I take for sophomore year if I want to go into the business and computer field?
I also want to know what programs or clubs should I do.
for computers, APCSP (assuming CS50 curriculum 😊) is good if you have no experience. APCSA is good for if you have a bit of experience or are willing to study just a little bit. I know some schools near me offer cybersecurity classes, and some offer Digital Info Tech. I don't know the exact contents of them but those would be good too.
as for business, I'm not sure what your school offers. My school has AICE Business, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, etc.
as for programs, internships are always nice.
Passion projects are also always nice, and you can even start a business right now if you have ideas already, just make sure to do your homework first (no pun intended).
as for clubs it depends what your school has
I appreciate your taking the time to help me.
Join a couple clubs related to your major, and a couple distinct ones to show you’re well rounded
So as a sophomore what kind of classes should I take? Should I take all hard classes or should I have extracurricular classes in there as well. Idk if colleges are looking for a person who does all hard classes or one that has a well balance. But I feel like if I start taking exploratory classes my gpa will go down.
I loved the suggestion on the career path related classes but I want to know how I should schedule out my classes as well
take hard classes and ec because it will show that you can manage and multi-task any type of workloads. remember colleges really like to see what your interest is in related to your major and identify if your passionate of pursing that major in their college
Take rigorous classes that pertain to ur major
By extra curricular classes, do u mean electives?
Yes, that’s what I meant.
Thank you for the advice!
i would suggest ap bio
i would say so. im doing 4 aps rn and it is definitely a challenge
the important thing to remember is balance
where is calc
Precalc
Physics 1
World History
CSP
Yeah that works
Im basically doing the exact same thing
Lol
Except Euro history instead of world
And csa instead of csp
Same subject areas
So yeah you should be fine
how term memorization heavy is the AP psych test
like whats the approxment number of terms i have to learn and memorize
I can either take AP stats or AP physics 1 next year- which one is more useful?
What grade r u in and what do u want to major in
I'm in 9th rn- so sophomore next yr and I want to do either neurosci or cs
9th grade - 7 periods:

For someone who has no idea what they will do in college and is about to go to high school can i get some recommendations on my courses I'm taking or classes I should possibly replace?
As of now I'm an 8th grader and im turning 14 soon
Ap physics 1
stats is a really useful class regardless of whichever field you go into like the skills are very applicable especially for cs, so i'd recommend stats but some say physics is more useful for stem fields but you'll prob have to take a physics class in college anyway
so wait ur going into 10th grade
yea so take ap physics 1
so then u could take physics c the following yr
and then take stats as well if your able
Hi, I have a question. I am a freshman. I am planning on dropping out of honors biology next semester, so I can spend more time on my extracurriculars. I am going for a CS degree and here are my current classes:
- Robotics
- AP CSA
- Geometry Honors
- English Honors
- Biology Honors
- Spanish II
- Tennis
Do you think I should drop out to regular biology next semester to get more free time, or should I just stick with what I have now?
Yeah
Keep honors
Because if u wanna take ap bio
It will help
my school doesnt offer ap bio tho
and i don't rly plan on taking any other bio course after this year
Bruh
What
Nah some schools don’t even offer AP’a
My school doesn’t have AP economics
Envi sci
And European
My school doesn’t have ap world
I literally want to major in econ and my school doesn’t have a class for it
Or ap physics c electromagnetism
Same
My school teaches both in one class
My school doesn't have AP Physics C entirely
That’s why Physics C is the most rigorous in my school
Not many schools near me do
So should I take Spanish 1 or art 1
Spanish
Spanish
What grade
I just register for 9th
I did Spanish 3 honors in 9th
Honors Spanish is a thing?
Y'all are lucky that you took Spanish on middle
Ye
Yeah
At my school spanish honors is only for spanish 3 and 4
@normal ember I suggest you take a different language if you can
Unless you don’t want to
I could've taken it in middle but I missed the window both times to choose my electives
I'm in spanish 2 already
Yep
What AP’s do you have rn
AP World
AP CSP
AP Calc AB
AICE Language (british ap lang)
Thank uuu
Lucky, my school didn't have ap physics 1 for this year
They will next year apparently but this year they didn't because they just got a new physics teacher
My school teaches bio then anything you want as long as they have it and you have the prereqs
I'm in Chem honors rn
My school has the weirdest classes
Chem honors ain't too bad
My school has nutrition as a class
Does ur school have financial literacy required to graduate?
I'm just glad I exempted the 110 question midterm.
And child development
Yes
Mine does
Yes
Personal finance
Is a requirement
I took it over the summer though so I could take AP Human Geography last yesr
Same
Same and my school has sports marketing as a class
I did it in the hopes to do AP Comp sci
U can take school classes over summer
But my counselor never gave it to me
Mine has sports journalism
My school has welding in engineering 3 or 4, I forgot which one
U guys have level of engineering
4 year program
We just have intro to engineering and engineering principles
Intro to Engineering Design
Principles of Engineering
Then some other names for Engineering 3 and 4
And we also have an Engineering club that I'm a VP of trying to revive it
We have virtual pe 💀
That's probably what I'm gonna do
U have it?
Imma take virtual PE the summer after junior year
My school has its own business and people can join it as a class
So I don't have to take it in person
We have photography as a class 💀
The gifted program at my school is so OP
We can get schedule changes at the beginning of the year just bc
Everyone else can only get a schedule change if they already took the class or they have a required course that they aren't taking because of a scheduling error
We have a class called “Stories Matter”
Ok what even is that
Stories Matter
Offered to grades: 11, 12
Length: 1 Term
Category: Elective
Prerequisite: None
Much of the conflict in the world stems from a lack of understanding and appreciating our own and others’ diverse experiences and perspectives. In this course, students will explore a variety of literary texts, which could include memoirs, podcasts, poems, plays, etc., all with the same questions at the heart of the study: How do different people see, feel, and represent the world differently? How can sharing stories increase our understanding of each other? While engaging with the central focus, students will work on skills pertaining to reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
The student will:
Read, discuss, and write about the course concept (the importance of stories and multiple perspectives) in a variety of forms (examples: John Green’s “Stories Matter” speech, Dashka Slater’s The 57 Bus, pieces from Des Moines Storytellers Project, etc.) on a variety of topics that may shift with students’ needs and interests
Focus on the similarities and differences between stories within the course concept
Advance analysis skills
Write reflectively and analytically
Compose narratives
We also have 3 classes entirely on the topic of fashion
Guys I need help. Should I take Spanish 3 or AP physics 1 in 10th grade?
It rlly depends on what u like
The only reason I have to take Spanish 3 is cuz it’s “good for colleges”
Like if u like science and wanna major smth related to that field in college, I recommend u take AP physics 1
Oh ok
Unless I push Spanish 3 to junior year
U can choose which one u prefer to take in 10th grade first
Wdym “first”
Then take Spanish 3 in ur junior year
Yeah that’s a good idea
Alr
It’s ur decision though
But I think u should take physics in 10th grade
Then Spanish 3 in 11th
It doesn’t even matter im 8th grade lol
Oh 💀
I’m just planning my four years rn cuz im bored
Math - trig and ap pre calc
Science - honors bio
Social studies - ap euro history
English - honors English 2
PE - strength
Electives -
Spanish 3
Programming in Python
Chemistry 1
Astronomy
But I could replace Spanish 3 with ap physics 1
You can take ap physics in the 10 grade!
Wow you’re hella smart
🧠
Yeah but just decide based on which one u could rlly take
Like which one u rlly wanna take
How does that make me smart
Most of the people at my school don’t take physics till 11 and 12
And I go to a Catholic school
But they still have the option to, right?
At my school, u can take physics in 12th grade but u can take it in 11th grade if you’re recommended to do honors
Nope
sophomores can only take apwh or ap psych
Ik
For us freshman can only take aphug
Bro what!
You have to be a literal genius and ace any, and all placement tests in order to take an honors class at my school
They don’t offer ap to freshman 😭
Rip
My school has a course catalog and it lists the requirements to get into each specific honors classes
Like most of them include that u gotta get a specific score or higher on the PSAT to be able to take that honors class and other requirements
Anyone can take honors in our school
Oh what
Guess my school doesn’t even care then lol
But my school has some pretty goofy ahh classes
🙄😒 tell me about it. I’m taking biology now as a sophomore because freshman year I took some science class called “ earth and space science”
Er not now tho because this semester is over but still
💀 what
But the problem is that my school says that u can only do ap bio if u do chem 1 and biology
So like im tryna cram bio and chem into sophomore year
But then I want to do ap physics in sophomore year
But like im not gonna put all my electives as a science class cuz I want to do intro to Java and Spanish 3
And wait
you said the only requirements for AP physics is algebra II?
Ah!
What’s your grade in that right now? If you don’t mind me asking
Damn y’all are lucky people
Grade in what?
Alge II
Bruh
I thought 😭
Ic
My grade in geometry is 99.33
You take geometry now?
Ye
Damn noice
That’s amazing
My school is terrible
I have a 99 in algebra for 1st semester rn
Wild 🔥🔥🔥 with proofs and all that junk?
My school is pre al to alg to geo to alg 2 to trig and pre calc
Rip
Ye
That’s before proofs
We are gonna start proofs after break
Bro I know a kid that’s doing pre calc in my grade
Dude what school is this 😭
Bro he literally leaves schools cuz there’s so few kids in it
Being 1 math ahead in my school ain’t special at all
Like there’s 80 kids one math ahead
What school is this tho
Or more I think
Why
Oh damn Iowa
Dude I’m in highschool and there’s mandatory classes like health and personal growth
which grade are you in
8
Damn
The 3 mandatory classes for me are financial literacy, speech 1, and health 1
It’s goofy I don’t know where to put financial literacy
Maybe I’ll take it as a senior
Is it normal to honors geometry in 9th
Cause thats what i am taking
Cause in my school algebra 2 is usually done in 10th
I mean that's typically only 1 year ahead
so yeah
Same
How should I study for AP exams? I was planning to just write down all the concepts I remember and review each concept. Every time I think I’ve memorized a good amount of information, I repeat the process and write down information and what I remember. After several times of doing this, I was planning to take ap practice tests and past frqs. I’m taking AP Lit, AP Stats, APES, and AP Macro, and self studying, APHUG, AP Comparative Gov, and AP Euro History. 7 AP’s.
What is everyone elses thoughts
Tons of information online. I’d recommend looking there first. Especially for the histories, Heimler’s History will help.
Yep, I took notes on ALL of his ap euro vids. (Except the review vids for each unit)
Damn
Elementary
Nah
Up to Spanish 4 is good, because most colleges look up to 4
5 is unnecessary and a waste of time
What Spanish do u have up to
3?
No like other than Ap
What Spanish do u have
Ok yeah so go up to that
Anyone here taking jewelry and metal smithing 3?
dawg what
Woah jewelry and metal smithing. I wanna do that 😭
I'm currently a 10th Grader (Sophomore) taking Honors Integrated III with a 100% Score (Algebra 1-2/Geometry) alongside Logic 1 (Math Elective) 95% and able to take Pre-Calculus over the summer. Do you think it is possible to advanced to Calculus 3 by 12 Grade (Senior)? My school offers Cal 3, and people from my school are able to skip two courses (however, this is usually for freshmen and underclassmen and maintain a 100% average), so I don't know if I'm able to. There is also no math APs and Logic 1 is the only math elective that is available. Calculus 2 can't be skipped because there is a lot materials to go over. Skipping Calculus 1 is the only possibility, but I need creditability and an attainable proposal.
taking alg 2, trig, and precalc is a waste of time
precalc is an integration of skills from alg 2 and trig
Idk what subject to choose for year9, since I still don’t know what job to be coz time is changing
What options do u have
That’s why trig and pre calc are in same year
Yeah our school offers it
If anyone took it I just wanted to see what it was like
And it goes up to 3
What are the options
Taking them as separate classes really seems pointless
Well my schools goofy
yea, easily
u can prolly take it this year tbh
like calc 1 and 2
Is this too much for ninth grader? (im ahead by two years in math, and one year in science and Social Studies)
Eng 1 Honors
Alg 2 Honors
Chem Honors
WHAP
Spanish 3 Honors
AP Psych + AP HumanGeo (1 semester classes)
AP physics
HOW DO U DO AP PHYSICS IN 9th
That might be a little too much
4 ap classes in freshman year is wild
my school doesnt even allow freshman to take APs, and sophomores can only take an AP in comp sci A or principles
good
Anyone here taking Sports and Entertainment Marketing?
Bio is the pre req and chem is the co req
I was thinking abt ap cps but imma wait and take it with apes in sophomore
Bro isn’t bio a hs class
Ye
Does anyone know what happens in the advanced art elective, psychology elective or intro to law and criminology? It’s just that i’m think about getting those but I’m not really sure what they teach about in them.
By psychology, do u mean AP? And also what art elective, could u be more specific
I’m not sure, my school has electives once you get into grade 11 for classes. I think this channel is for high school class electives-
I know, but like can u be more specific on the classes of advanced art
And is psychology Ap psych
I looked at a page with the options made by my school, I didn’t see AP
Ok, I’ll explain what u do in psych then
U explain human behavior essentially, and the scientific methods in psychology
Also u explain how external factors influence behaviors
My school doesn’t offer law
Also I don’t know what art class ur talking about
isn't that class basically like memorize like a million terms and you should be able to get atleast a 4
thats weird and annoying to me
that's also AP Human Geography except you only have to remember like 10 terms to get a 4 because most of the exam is on one unit (unit 5)
imo that class was really interesting but the exam was really easy
I'm dead serious, like the majority of the questions (including the FRQs) were on Unit 5 (Agricultural & Rural Land Use)
on collegeboard's page they say "12%-17%" for unit 5 but that's a lie istg (especially since it says the same percentage for unit 7, which is barely on the exam at all because of the fact that most AP HUG teachers apparently don't get fully through U7)
hey can anyone give advice on whether to choose pathology or immunology major? job prospects salary etc...
I guess I prefer pathology more because I guess immunology has more competition since the jobs avaliable are high demand. Both pays well, pretty sure that pathology is also medical. Both are kind of similar in my opinion.
But you can choose what you want
I've been looking for a college to share my creative prowess through video games, music, and movies. I don't know where to go for things like that. Can someone with prior experience help me out?
How should I study for 7 ap tests? Would starting now be a bad idea
when are your tests
Do you mean you're doing 7 AP exams this year independently, because your school doesn't offer them? In that case, studying for them immediately would be a good idea, if you're sure you are giving them, there's no harm
Anyone know any helpful resources for self-studying an ap?
Go on the ap website and look at their past exams. I’ve never self studied but I’ve given someone some of my resources from a class that he’s self studying and they’ve been really helpful. You could try to find someone that already took the course and see if they can give u any resources that were helpful for them
3 are self studies and the other 4 are classes
Then why are you worrying about them now? You could probably prepare for the self study ones a few months before them
Ap lit, ap stats, APES, Macro and im self studying, Euro, Comp Gov and HUG
Idk I just think now would be good
should I take physics as an elective next year?
my main science class is a 2 year class so I wanted to add physics as well
U r insane
Yep
Like ap physics 1, or ap physics c? Also what grade u going to
Honors physics
idk if I can do ap physics without knowing anything
prior
or can i?
my school only offers c
or ib physics
Wait take ib physics
I'll check
Take ib physics
Take honors physics
YALL
found out today i can take ap lang instead of the required courses that i was supposed to take next year
i just need a recommendation from my teacher
which is in the works
so that’s great
😝
just in case anyone asks
no i can’t take ap lit
my school has made ap lang a prerequisite to ap lit
doesnt matter
you can do similar shit with either major
Quick question, what is a good program that I can take for post secondary with an average of mid 80s?
What are the main differences between AP physics 1 and APES?
Im having a tough time deciding between the 2
difficulty 😭
I mean like which one is easier and curiculum
Apes likely from what I've heard
Choose Ap physics 1
Im tryna decide between AP physics 1, APES, and physio
AP physics 1
AP Physics 1 for the win
Depends on your intended major
I would say taking Physics is helpful anyways because if you’re going into stem you’re going to have to take it some time
But otherwise if you want to go into humanities then just do APES cuz it’s much easier
Or if you want to go into environmental science
No
Even if going into humanities choose ap physics
i have a question guys
so i wanna take 2 ap history classes next year
as a sophomore (i’m a freshman rn)
but i need recommendations
but i’d need both of those from the same teacher
if i did over 100% in his class do you think he’d be okay with giving me the recommendations
??
I want to take AP science next year but I’m struggling this year in 8th grade, do i still take it?
What ap science
Theres multiple
if you know what ap science you want u could probably use khan academy to get a good start
Biology
Is AP physics 1 interesting I’ll be a sophomore next yr and I’m probably taking it
yeah
What type of stuff is there
look in course desc
ap physics 1 is not for the kind of hearts
it's pretty difficult imo
Guys can someone review my supplement essay
No one is there
#college-guidance @cinder gorge
then you need to wait
this is for course selection
not for college apps
no lol
take honors not aps freshmen year
If you’re struggling in science, taking a science AP would probably be one of the worst decisions you could make. Once you understand science in depth in your intended discipline, you would be better off.
some schools, i know mine, don’t have honors
still wouldnt recommend aps freshmen year anyways
idk tbh
everyone ik is taking AP's and i feel behind because of that
im freshman and taking 0 aps
but either way, do colleges want a steady increase in APs, or can i take as many as I want in sophmore year?
I have to take two already (ap precal and ap csa), but is 4-5 okay sophmore year?
i wanna double up on chem and ap physics 1 to get ahead in science since im alr ahead in math but does anyone have experience in this subject?
yeah take the max u can lmao
they look at course rigor dependent on high school
when ur counselor is evaluating you, she also has a section for if the student took the maximum rigor of coursework offered
that means taking max aps
well im taking 2 on-level classes (not advanced) because biology advanced at my school is killer
im taking advanced english for the SAT because it's basically a preparation for AP lit
and im not taking aphug
but i was thinking next year maybe: ap precalc, ap csa, ap physics 1, whap, etc
me too!! it’s fine
my school doesn’t even allow freshmen to take aps
i think that’s a lot for your first year of taking them
i’m taking 3 as a sophomore
picked them out today
ap lang, apush, ap world
we only have “advanced” for math and english and that’s only if u we’re in the accel program in middle school
my school requires taking ap lang before taking ap lit
damn my school doesn’t even have ap precalc and aphug
we have 12 ap classes i think
ap euro
ap world
apush
ap gov
ap bio
ap chem
ap physics
ap calculus
ap stats
ap csp
ap lang
ap lit
that’s it
i would say 1 is fine if you want to push yourself and know you can handle it
focus on getting your science grade up now and see later
it rlly depends when ur course selection is
does anyone wanna take a look at my courses i picked out today for sophomore year?
world history will be changed to ap world history
We also use infinite campus, but yea I found out it was bcuz of a test I wasn’t there for
my school requires english 2 before ap lit or lang 😭
Why do you want to take apush and whap at the same time
apush is hard ive heard
my favorite subject and have taken like normal classes of it the past 2 years had over 100% on it the entire time
oohhhhh yeah js catch up and i think if you work hard you could do one of the ap sciences
don’t take any more than that for freshman year cause that’s alr pushing yourself
js start w 1 and you can increase it every year
we gotta do 9th and 10th first but i’m ahead so i’m in 10th as a freshman. so with a rec from my teacher i can take ap lang as a sophomore
What’s pride time
i would have to take world anyway so why not just bump up the difficulty
studyhall
Oh
Alr thank you
yeah np
take 1 to get acclimated
Is this schedule good for an aspiring Neuroscience pre-med
Junior yr:
AP Lang (required)
AP World (required)
AP Calc BC
AP Chem
AP Physics C: Mechanics
Humanities Magnet Research Seminar (required)
Online Newspaper
Neuroscience/Intro to Biochemistry
How r ap classes required
Otherwise taking all those junior year is good
Really yood
Magnet program
wait like u can technically take courses over the summer at colleges like stanford, do those count towards ur transcript?
Summer classes at universities don’t count towards your Highschool transcript. However certain programs may give college credits for them
i dont think so
yeah
Is CLEP easier or harder than AP.
Freshman year:
Honors History
Honors Biology
Honors Algebra
English
Italian
Gym
Art
Woodworking
Pre-engineering
Not all in 1 semester btw
i go to an advanced school so im taking it in 8th grade rn
its pretty easy actually
just kinda memorize the formulas and study online
What do u need help with
Nothing just showing u guys what I picked
