Yo guys, do u guys think it’s better to do a CS degree or a software engineering degree.

The Uni which I wanna go to offers both CS and SWE and I need to choose one. However, the program structure and content is a lot different for CS and software engineering.

For SWE, it’s a 4 year degree. First year of the degree is a general year where u do papers/courses from all the engineering specialisations (mechanical, civil, electrical, chemical, biomedical etc.). For the second year, u choose a specialisation and major in it. However, to get into a specialisation such as SWE, u need a very high GPA (around an average grade of A in all ur courses of first year) to study it for the subsequent years of the degree. Another specialisation that I am interested in is engineering science and it’s based off using programming and mathematical modelling to solve problems and it requires an average of B+ in the first year to get into it for the subsequent years of the degree.

For CS, it’s a 3 year standard/general Bachelor of Science degree like everywhere else in the world. The con of doing it is that you aren’t guaranteed internships like u are with the engineering degree and would need to spend extra time on personal projects to build up a portfolio in order to get a job/internships. The entry requirement for CS is quite low so it’s also kind of viewed less of a degree by some people.

I am not sure which degree to choose tbh. I actually want to get a career in something that’s related to software development or data science or maybe even web development(I have tried to make websites before in my free time and it was somewhat enjoyable). Tbh, I am not sure what I actually want to do but I roughly know that I want a CS related career, partly due to my interests and partly due to high pay.

It will be nice if someone could guide me on which pathway to take.

You get high school credit for completing the class,

You get college credit if you get a 3 or higher on the AP exam.

I’ve never heard of having to do projects in order to get credit for completing them. Which classes supposedly do this?
