But if you do need recommendations
You’re gonna want good grades this year
So do your best to keep your grades high
Hmm, Is it possible to get into AP this year if I am able to show mastery in the current course?
Possibly
I don’t know anything about your school sooo
Ask your counselor
im a freshman and im taking
Honors English 1
World Geography
Honors Computer Science 1
Art 1
Biology
Honors Algebra 2
Spanish 1
good load?
im taking non-honor classes this year but next year i plan to do AP and honors
Depends on the AP course
Did you master algebra 2? Just asking
im takaing art to get the fine art credit out of the way, but i plan to stick with comp sci and spanish throughout my 4 years
im learning it right now im not the best at it
So your school started right?
yes
1/4 of the way done
no
i took geometry last year
im 2 years ahead i think
bare minimum is algebra 1 as a freshman
gotcha
geometry is 1 year ahead, algebra 2 is 2 years ahead of math
ive never taken an algebra 2 course before
yes
just more difficult
and faster
i decided to go with an easier load freshman year since i heard if i want to take on-level classes it should be freshman year
i mean ya if ur good at algebra 1 you can be good at algebra 2
algebra 2 is just a lot weirder
I’m now aware of any sorry
Does anyone have any tips on what I could self study? If you need to know, I want to be an astrophysicist.
You can self study apes or any easy science ap class
Also since you want to be a astrophysicist take dual credit astronomy (if you school has it) and ap physics c (if you can handle the rigor - otherwise ap physics 2 is perfectly fine)
Thank you. I'll probably self study chemistry, or maybe astronomy (of course), since my school doesn't offer it. I'll probably purchase some textbooks for it. Are there any websites I can use for self studying that you know of? Thank you.
Guys, will doing any AP help for SAT math?
I mean like, will doing what best prepare me
yes, AP should help but that shouldn't be your only study source. i'd buy a study book and rely on that
Pre calc ?
what ap should i take
i plaiing of taking ap computer scince and ap human geo plus geoemrty and algebra 2 honnors is this too much of a workload for me i am a freshman next year as well
#bot-commands
I'm not sure what a alevels subjects to take. Is it better to take sociology, psychology and economics or business, psychology and economics. What is a better combination and does business have more weightage or sociology
When a college requires you to take two foreign languages sequentially, does that mean you have to take it in the same year?
No I think it means after 1 language take the other one
I dont know any but khan academy is good
Is this a good four-year plan for high school https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eziV75-CxXrBwWu3lU4Djw92Jk5Y8ki8jToqzc9gyJQ/edit?usp=sharing
Sheet1
Schedule,9th Grade,10th Grade,11th Grade,12th Grade
History,AP World History,AP U.S. History,AP United States Government and Politics,AP Microeconomics
English,English 1,English 2 Advanced,AP English Language,AP English Literature
Math,Adv. Algebra 2,AP Precalculus or AP Stats if skip pre...
So like one this year and one next year?
It is in 10th grade
I’m in 9th so not yet for me

Hello. I was thinking of what I should do in high school. I recently learned about ap classes and I was confused on them. What are ap classes? How many should I take? What years should I take them? Are they hard? What are the ap classes that I can take? Which should I take or not take? I am also sending this email because I want to go to a good college where I can make a business. I don’t know what I will make, but what colleges should I go to? How much are they? Where are they located? Another thing I don’t get in high school is the classes. Are there certain classes I have to take but I can do advanced? How do the GPA’s work? How do electives work? What is the a+ program? How do I get in? What are the requirements? I just know that it is a big help on your college application.
I am very sorry about the amount of questions that I have but I don’t know who else to ask because all of my Google searches just were confusing. I want to get into a college that I will like so I need to know what to do. Once again, I’m sorry about all of the questions.
Thank you!
You should try to do your own research on these things and then if you have any other questions, you can ask
Google is more than sufficient to explain AP classes
And then anyone here can help with further questions
AP gives students the chance to tackle college-level work while still in high school and earn college credit and placement.
Imma answer so no one else has to, @west barn
Right now you are asking questions about the college app. #college-guidance will probably answer these better than I will.
AP or Advanced Placement classes are college level courses one can take to receive college credit. But only if they receive a 4-5 (3’s are weird, some do some don’t.) AP exams are what determines if you get college credit, not if you pass the class. Colleges like to see AP classes on your resume because it shows them that you are motivated and qualified to take courses with rigor.
What AP classes you shall take depends on what you want to do in life. As well as what your school. Random people on discord do not know your past grades but because you like business, you should take AP Calculus.
Try and take AP classes as soon as possible. And yes, they are hard. Also pretty sure all AP classes look good.
The College section is all on you, I have no right to tell you where you should spend the next 4 years of your life. What I can say is when looking for colleges, try to use these factors: (cost, distance from family, location, how much money you have.)
Ima be making the biggest estimate but I’m pretty sure the average cost for a college per year is around 25k in the US. You can go to college pretty much anywhere in the world, just do your research.
For “Are there certain classes I have to take but I can do advanced?” Question, that you should ask your guidance counselor.
Gpa or Grade Point Average is a system used to calculate your freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior year average grades. National average is around 3.0, if you want to get into a selective school, try and aim for 3.8-4.0+.
Elective classes are not core classes (like math, science, English, history) but rather classes like music and art and ect. You have to choose what elective classes you want, but try to aim for those that interest you.
I have no clue what the A+ program is. If you mean valedictorian, that is when you are #1 in your class, meaning you have the highest gpa out of your class.
Btw literally all of these questions I found from Google lmao.
Ty for taking the time to write this all out
np
I did more research and the A+ program seems to be something only in Missouri
an i allowed to take ap compuetr science and take algerba 1 at the same time
an i allowed to take ap compuetr science and take algerba 1 at the same time @everyone
Ask your counselor
We don’t know
Is this the right place to ask for help because I don’t know what bachelors to pursue?
Typically AP CSA had a math pre req
And algebra 1 might be too low
But that was just for my school
Like I said
You’re better off asking your counselor
So I’ve already self learned alg 2, precalc, and AP calc ab on khan academy despite me being in geometry.
there’s a test I can take in the summer where if I get 80% or higher, I can get the hs credit for the class
I’m currently already planning on doing the alg 2 test, but I was wondering if I should do the precalc test?
This will probably be the last year I will want to take these tests bc once I’m in high school, the tests will be factored into my gpa
So should I just at least try to take the precalc test, and take advantage of the test scores not going into gpa rn?
Mist tysm for answering all of my questions it helped me a lot so thank you and I asked my counselor some stuff too. Thank you!
For my Senior year (Im a junior now) should I do APUSH, AP Calc BC, AP Amer Gov (you need some form of gov to graduate at my school), and AP Chem? I also wanted to self study AP Physics C Mechanics. I want to major in mathematics
don't study AP phys C unless you're willing to put all of your time into it, single hardes exam to self study
K
and i thought i had no life 😭
I'm taking calc based physics as a sophomore, some of us might be mildly insane but it's okay
💀
this server is full of crazy ppl
kinda makes me wanna kms
I want your opinion on my schedule for next year@lone lion I'm a freshmen rn
APUSH
honors English 2
Choir
AP Calc bc
Ap stats
Pe
AP chem
lmao
So that would be my sophomore schedule plus dual enrollment calc based physics
killing urself early
I got a gray hair yesterday
💀
Not even joking
have fun if u wanna kill urself
not even joking
ap chem + apush is already gonna make u go insane
Is that reasonable when also studying for USApho, being Color Guard Captain probably, being in philosophy club, being in engineering club, tutoring kids, and doing drama club?
/srs
I have a friend who's in it AP US History and the average grade for the last test was 3/8
Guys which classes are easy but challenging at the same time?
Soooo you can’t have an easy class that’s also challenging 😭
They’re kinda opposites
Also besides some AP classes, we don’t know what your school offers
Well like a normal class but with a challenge
^
I also don’t know what constitutes as a normal class
Like a non honors?
Just looking for an opinion on my course selection for my senior years (Australian high school)
Mathematics advanced + extension
English advanced + extension
Chemistry
Physics
Biology
Modern history
Any thoughts?
You’re taking chem bio and physics all in the same year with no electives?
Hey I’m in Aus school yr8. Should I accelerate in English. I’m already doing it in French and computing by a couple years. I’ve got straight A+’s. Idk if it’s worth it though
What AP classes should I take if I want to be a Physics major?
(Pls pin me when replying)
okay i was half asleep but after waking ip this morning i think i may have been trashing on myself
😍
Yupurino 💀 I never really liked my music it art class though so no choice ig
Yeah! I reckon if you feel ready, and definitely if you’ve got straight A+‘s!
From what I’ve noticed it hasn’t changed all too much in the years, just a lot more details and reading is required. Overall if you feel ready, go for it!
😎😎
What are good classes to choose for the first year of high school
As rigorous as possible
got it how many do u reccomened?
as much as you can handle realistically
How much did u do
I didn’t do any freshman year, now as a sophomore I am taking 2, next year I will be taking 2 AP’s and the rest honors
Ah Alr
By any chance anyone knows abt IIST ?
Since im doing algebra 1 early in 8th grade, is it ok to skip to do Geometery in 9th?
Ping me for advice
ap algebra 💀
bro what 😭 what does developing websites have to do w math
no do the full algrebra 1, geo, algebra 2 unless u can get out of it but geo is a needed foundataion for pre calc or wtv
ap physics 1,2 ,c e&M, c mech, ap calc ab or bc , chem, wtv enginnering coures u have at ur school if u have them
Yeah
Im taking Algebra 1 in 8th grade right now
And if I finish I can skip it
So I should do it
Should I do Algebra 2 over Summer break
yo is anyone here aiming to give LSAT?
Thanks for the suggestions. Makes sense to talk all the physics courses
Like for law school…?
... yeah
we’re all high schoolers lol
LOL
Don’t do it unless if u hv strong foundation in math
Bc then u will struggle later
Uh
Well
When I got switched to Algebra 1
There was an upcoming test
On topic one
They had been working on that for 2 months
Well
1 and a half but
I took it on the fourth day
I got an 88%, while the class average was 50-75%
My teacher was really impressed
I only had a few days there, but the rest of the class had a month and a half
So
I don't know
Maybe I have a strong foundation
Should I do it?
i recommend you not skip geometry
it's usually not a good idea to skip math unless you either already know how to do them, or self taught
all of the maths stack on each other from what have u learned
ok
No im not gonna skip geometry
Im gonna skip Algebra 1 because I did it
yo guys should i go honors spanish 2 next year for gpa boost and easier or do spanish 3
What grade
what spanish are you taking right now?
1
and as wondercreations said, what grade did you get
9th
how did you feel about spanish 1? easy?
Yeah pretty easy I have 2 family members who speak Spanish so I have the accent down, I know basic vocab and congregations
And I’m gonna be taking Spanish 2 over the summer regardless
Just so I am prepared
oh okay then spanish 3 would probably be better
Even though Spanish 2 is like free gpa boost?
because then you can get to spanish 4 faster to take ap spanish senior year or have an extra elective in senior year if you decide not to take ap spanish / if your school doesn't have it
colleges generally care more about your junior and senior grades (i think)
Ye
And sophomore
Also helps
Freshman not so much
ap spanish is a lot easier to take if you've taken spanish 4 so i'd choose spanish 3 so you can take the ap
Alright I’ll take all of Spanish 2 over the summer and think it over if I want the gpa boost or to reach AP Spanish faster
Same with Pre Cal
Might try to get into the Calc AB sophomore year idk
Ye
If you end up doing that then feel free to ask me abt it
I did that (currently taking it, took precal over summer)
it's stressful to take precalc fully over the summer but if you are confident enough then
go ahead
it's very doable
ok
also @normal ember
how do i remove helper roles im tired of getting pinsg every 2 seconds
uh
it should be in the dropdown
scroll all the way down and there it is
k
anyway alg 1 is like a 9th grade class @cinder gorge
honestly shoot higher. i self studied trig, precalc, alg 2 while in my geometry course so i skipped to calc (where i am now)
geometry really isn’t hard so take advantage of the time
its mostly intuition and a few formulas to memorize
I haven't done geometry yet but I hope I do plus my teacher said that he'll give us a sheet of all of the formulas to use on the test
yea ur good i skipped to calc with only khan
same !!
did u get held back?
huh my 8th grade was 13-14 yr olds
mine too
Oh
I guess ur birthday starts later?
when is it
ooh cool
what about u onion whens ur birthday
honestly age doesn’t play too much of a factor in academics tbh. its mostly whether you try to understand the material versus just rote memorization
thats why i nearly failed alg 1
It doesn't really I got judged for knowning too much for my age
feb 27 ‘09
mines aug 23 '09
wow
4 days
their birthday is aug 26
honestly i kinda regret skipping freshman bc i have to decide all my courses sooner
i spent a good week stressing what math to take based on a placement test i took 😭
and then boom i gotta plan my dual enrollment courses for next year on top of that
you skipped it? how did u skip?
do u know what classes they offer
well i had the 9th grade math and science credits so i just took english 1 online
to meet all the credits for 9th
ohh okay
in my state 8th graders take algebra 1 w/ statistics
my middle school was split with 8th graders taking alg 1 / geometry
wow
I hope we do geometry next
writing?
i hates geometry tbh
hated
probably bc i didnt listen but proofs are the inly thing needing a lot of memorization
right now we're doing one and two step equations which is easy bc this is review from 7th and 6th
yeah i did then last year
huh?
its not like abstract algebra type stuff no thats like upper level undergrad
just simply proofs with simple theorems
calc 1
taking calc 2 next semester
dual enrollment; my hs doesnt offer APs
yeah
charter
if i reveal any more im prolly gonna doxx myself
but whatever
its on a community college so my junior + senior yesrs are gonna be exclusively college classes
yeah
well for pre-med i’m mostly trying to save money
so probably somewhere instate like UF
but other than thst i’m only going to apply to top schools that are actually worth their bucks
yeah
since i will have my associates im guaranteed admission there
nah
my family income is…
a bit high 😭
thats why im mainly looking at state schools
but my dad told me that pre-med is hella hard so im tryna get experiences with the curriculum
for example i’m tryna tryhard my chem classes so i can take organic chem 1 + 2 in my senior year
no but something similar. im in it
theres also this anatomy and physilogy course imma be taking
which sounds really interesting
honestly the only reason my courses benefit my college app is bc im taking them out of interest
bc if i took differential equations and MVC just for college apps i would probably not survive HS
but i genuinely enjoy math so
yeah
also same
I'ma go to bed guys goodnight! I wish u luck for another day of school! ❤️
gn
gn u also should probably go to sleep if ur not studying
you’re probably gone by now but i have to finish 2 sections of calc hw and revise for my calc midterm 😭
u in 8th
deviations
?
Here is the closest I'm thinking of taking next summer
Introductory Chemistry
General Physics 1/ physics of everyday life
Pre calc
Along with doing a summer Musical
The courses would be taken at my local Community College,
Hey buddy
Im in florida too
This what I was thinking of taking next year (currently sophomore)
- Ap us history
- Ap physics 1
- Ap English lang
- Ap pre calc (maybe AB, trying to self study pre calc)
- Ap comp sci Pr
- Ap econ
- adv. theology
- art1 (first semester) financial literacy (2nd semester)
At my school a lot of ppl do 6 aps junior year
For the program I’m in I already have to take 4
how many is a good amount of ap`s in freshman
i thinking of taking 4 or 5 maybe or more
how much would be enough and be too much
That’s a lot
I’ve never heard of a freshmen taking more than 2
My school limits us to 1 fresh and 2 (3 on rare occasion) sophomore year
Does the school youre going to go to next year allow that many
i think so
becuase my school gives up ap huma geo as an option for social studies in ninth grade
so i assume yes
is ap bio the same thing as bio but ap
I would recommend to change art, unless if it is really what you want
My school has a no freshman in ap rule
i think it’s good
yo guys
so i’m currently a freshman
this is what i plan on taking next year
4 are required byw
btw
physics
alg. 2
11th english
world history
apush
Spanish 3
okay i’m weird and even have the next year kinda roughly planned out so here it is
ap world
ap bio
ap csp
ap gov
post secondary prep
chemistry
Spanish 4
okay i also have THE NEXT HEAR rough plan
here it is
ap chem
ap stats
ap lang
ap euro
ap physics
college and career exploration
college essay
intro to art
idk my school doesn’t allow freshmen’s to take ap classes
also don’t say to change art bc it’s required to take a a visual/performing/applied arts course
Guys, when I become a junior, I need to choose 6 courses 3 HL and 3 SL my intended major is business should I choose math HL or English HL?
W
It’s to fill school requirement
That one is kind of in the air
I might switch it out for a different one, I jsut need to take one more semester of some kind of arts class
How much Ap's should I take freshman year to get into an ivy league? (currently only taking Apes)
Im thinking of adding APCSP
Depends on what your school lets you take and what you wanna take
I'm really enjoying APCSP rn so that's a good choice imo
APHG is also a good freshman course imo
can I go into it with no coding experience?
Yeah absolutely
Starts from the very basics
The type of stuff you'll be learning and the pace may be a bit different based on your school
My school used to have the code.org one but now they have the CS50 one by Harvard
Which is way better (but also more advanced)
Anyone?
Whichever one you like better, I assume
Guys what are good classes for highschool freshmen
Alright
Here is what I'm thinking of taking next summer
Introductory Chemistry
General Physics 1/ physics of everyday life
Pre calc
(
I'm pretty sure as a freshman my school only provides one AP Course which is AP Seminar, if i aspire to become a lawyer is it worth it?
Well if you take AP seminar, you’re going to want to take AP research and receive the capstone diploma
Do some research on what both classes are like, and if you like how it sounds then I think you should take it
i cant really take both at once as ap seminar is only provided
You take AP seminar then the next year you take AP research
should i take ap chemistry my sophomore year or ap physics
i really like chemistry
but idk if i should take it my sophomore year
If you really like chemistry, you might be really motivated to do work but I really recommend taking honors chem before, AP chem is a pretty hard class
i’m taking it right now
it’s pretty easy imo
Alright! I think you should look into it
Should I self study calc bc while in precalc. I consider myself extremely strong in math, im a junior
No no
Never self-study something that isn't on the state or national standards
Something important like calculus bc should be guided by a educated instuctor. I would recommend a summer class or doing two math classes at the same time.
Or apply to virtual school
Alright, what’s your current classes if you don’t mind me asking?
Alr let me check rq give me a sec
Math, ELA, World History, Physical Science, Visual Arts and P.E ofc
Yes
You mind telling me how well on a scale of 1-5 you do in these classes?
Calc is a easy ap exam
It could 100% be self studied
Ok so for World history I would say 3-5. then for Physical science 5-5. Ela 5-5. Math 5-5. Visual Arts 5-5
But
Not everyone is good at it
Calculus ib is hard bud
Don’t bother arguing with him dude
It is easier than precalc
I am in debate buddy
He's an attention seeker or smth
Im used to it
Go to #careers if u wanna see why
oh ok
??
Go do what ur name says. GO TOUCH GRASS
Imagine getting triggered by a fact 💀
What fact?
That IQ is a important indicator of academic ability
🙄 Mind u I have almost straight A's
Okay, I definitely recommend moving to Honors Geometry and Honors Bio (whatever math/science class you can promote to). If world history is a 3-5, I will probably stay at the academic level, just to be safe. Last thing we want is to get burnt out.
Elective-wise, you should choose something that relates to comp sci, like robotics or a coding class to see what the field is like
I've tried coding but it just wasn't as fun tbh we used scratch
Freshman year is about branching out, so try and find something you are interested in
Why did you reply to me?
Block coding is super different than regular coding
Regular coding like python or Java is like learning a new language
Ohh okay I've never done that b4
But if that wasn’t fun, then you should try a business course
I mean i did but it was interesting
once we did coding like I think it was Java it was funnn but scratch wasn't at all
Yeah, scratch gives you the idea of what coding is like, but real coding is very different
It’s like a dumbed down version of code
I might try it out but idk what course to pick for that
I think this would be an instance of self study if you school does t offer any coding courses or AP comp sci principals/A
brb ima go get me some grapes
Ima check my hs if they have coding courses give me a sec
U found anything?
Yes! I found AP comp sci princiapls
Amazing! That’s one of the easier AP’s so that’s a definite yes
what's an AP?
Advanced Placement- it’s basically a college class
Not many schools offer AP credit for comp sci principles so I, not sure if you want to take the AP exam
Sorry for asking so many questions but what is AP credit?
Nah you’re fine, AP credit is credit you can use towards college. Pretty much college credit. So that means you can skip some college classes with AP credit, But only if you pass the exam with a 4-5 (some colleges use 3). The exam is graded on a scale of 1-5?
Ohh okay! now it makes more sense why u were asking me if my classes were 1-5
Oh, I just did that so you don’t have to dox your grade lol
oh ok lol I honestly don't mind lol
But that’s how the AP exam is graded, not on a letter grade system
oh okay so 5 is a 4 is b 3 is c and so on
Kinda, here I’ll share a pdf of an approximate of grades in AP exam
alr
So basically what i just said
Yeah kinda lol
Im good
Thats good
Ok buddy
i wouldn't say so; anyone with average intelligence can do most things just as well as someone with a higher IQ even with just a little more effort
“A little more effort”
no
"IQ helps a lot"
A whole lot more effort
how so?
some people study for 0 minutes
And score higher than those who study for like 10 hours
and then they never learn how to study. it pays off in the very short term but it'll for sure be a detriment later on
sure, getting a 100 on a geometry test is nice. but what about studying organic chem?
It illustrates a difference between abilities
if you put a motivated average person in a room and a lazy person who has an IQ of say, 130, i can assure you the average person will do more.
IQ marginally helps, yes, but it's not one of the huge main factors.
^ emphasis on marginally
no they will not
The 130 iq person’s intuition will already be more accurate
i have the opposite experience
???
and again, IQ is also solely a factor of even non-quantifiable intelligence. there are many other areas where a more "average" person can do more
hikaru nakamura has an average IQ, but he would smoke bill gates in a game of chess.
he doesn’t do anything but play chess
and how did he get good at it?
Some people purposefully do badly on IQ tests to try to prove a point
not from pure intuition
Like Feynman
okay, put feynman in a public speaking contest with an "intellectually" average public speaker today
again, everyone has their niches
it's their part to capitalize on what they're good at, and improve on their weaknesses
IQ helps but working harder triumphs it practically every time
Because the average guy practices way more
And richard feynman is very good at public speaking
put him in an OR then. see who can do a thoracotomy. practiced surgeons win again.
surgeons are not idiots
they're certainly not all geniuses
They have both intelligence and hard work
IQ is a baseless measure that's relative, anyway
You are spreading rumours
IQ is supported and in every psychology course
It is very scientific
when i say baseless i mean practically
work hard. and you'll do better
no need to dwell on a personal score
Yes for most sports and maybe music but not for a lot of academic subjects
even in academia, sure there's going to be some people who coast through it a bit easier but people who actually develop the drive to study will be almost guaranteed to go further
let's use my geometry example again. the kid who develops study skills will probably have a whole lot easier time studying differential geometry than the 130 IQ who barely even studied in HS
people who have drive to study usually have higher iqs
and i can tell you for sure no one can just grasp differential geometry from purely listening
not necessarily
What kind of differential geometry
i'm using it as an example
some people with average iqs will never understand more complicated topics in math
no one within the bottom 99.99% of the human population can just "whoops! i get it bc intuition"
Multiple mathematicians have already said this
Could you guys move out of this channel for this convo?
some people slug away at a question for hours while a some people can solve it in a matter of minutes
i'd rather not flood my DMs
Dms, lounge chats
What is the original question that y’all are debating
no
That is reversed
Hard work can get you far
Hard work and talent can get you anywhere
Talent only goes so far
Hard work also only goes so far
You can’t be 100% naturally good at things
You need both to succeed
Hard work allows you to extend your reach
No you don’t
Of course it does
You don’t have to be naturally good at something to become good at it
But intelligence and talent is very important at the higher level
You have to have good competence level
And I’m trying to work hard to teach myself pre calc
That’s not talent that’s just being an average human
K
No, the average human has a relatively low competence level
Please stop blatantly ignoring facts
The average person can never comprehend many concepts
What does this have to do with anything?
? You are not making even a bit of logical sense
Different chat, please
W
Woah what is going on
Everyone calm down
Grass stop
Wow says a idiot who has exactly 0 logical thought
Bruh
fr grass just starts beef with anyone bro
frr
What is blud yappin about 💀
what a pointless argument, everyone was just trying to disprove the other person
why can't debates ever be more fruitful
He says to get good at things, you need hard work, AND talent. And the other dude was like "You just need hard work. Not everyone has talent"
For the record, I agree with Aryan. Not everyone has talent but can still be successful. Talent comes after hard work. And then it turned into a chat about competence. And then a roast war
that’s what I said bro
I still can’t believe he did this again in a different chat 😭
Yooo that's crazy
Anyways
Should I take AP Precalc before I take AP Calc AB and BC
I’d recommend just taking any time of pre calc before calc
Yep
I’d personally chose aerospace engineering but what do you like
I'd choose aerospace engineering, mechatronics, and possibly CS.
yesss
frr 😭
Yeah
Unless if u hv strong foundation in precalc, no
AP precalc is just such a idiotic course
AP Precalc is definitely odd but it makes sense since Precalculus is considered an Advanced Math
If you take a standard High School Pathway, at least in California, you still have 2 semesters before precalc in college lol
Math 4a (College Algebra) Math 4b Trigonometry Math 4c Pre Calculus Math 5a Mathematical Analysis I (Calc 1)
that is so stupid
Like what?
wdym
why do you learn stuff so late
Well we have the option to go accelerated and take calc bc by junior year as well
but standard pathway for high schoolers is to take up to geometry
and thats it
But the course AP precalc is kinda dumb
Its just basics that you can learn by yourself or regular school
Yeah
I believe college board offered pre-ap precalc before making it a full ap course
Are they going to make a pre-chem and pre-physics too 😂
but I think the point of it is to give high school juniors and seniors a chance to take AP math without having to take ap calc, meaning more money for collegeboard
what about a pre-bio😂😂😂
i think they have those
they have preap world
bruuuuh
no physics
thats essentially physics 1
AP Phys 1 is just intro alg based physics lol
literally not even called physics in college
yeah
the only pre req for C at my school is calc
but our teacher is so bad he has a 100% fail rate
And that makes perfect sense
💀
he doesn'
he doesnt know physics so he plays videos for them and if they dont understand he tells them to figure it out
Nooo the AP Test
last year his highest AP Test score was a 2
what counts as a fail?
bro
2 or 1
💀
ik a guy that just guessed and got like a 3
Im not allowed to publish his AP Class on my schools website bc of how poorly kids do
I guessed and got a 5 on AP WOrld
Lol
i didn't do a single page of reading in that class
my DBQ was on womens rights in the modern day so
pretty easy
lol i guessed and got a 5 on ap calc exam💀
I researched a unit on google 5 minutes before my exam
jesus
you need to help me in Calc 1 rn
bc i have a b- in that class 💀
and its not going up
dont blame ya
Im taking calc 1 n 2 and then taking the AP Test while workign with my AP BC teacher, but she says half of the integration methods im learning and shit we don't even use in BC
Yeah
Yeah its Honors but in pre-ap CollegeBoard gets money.
some schools even call it advanced
for me it used to be called pre-ap now its called advanced [subject]
My school has advanced but I don’t think it’s related to college board at all
yeah
prob not
pre-ap is rare ish
my school has pre-ap english 2
bc you cant go to honors english 10 if you werent in honors english 9
so basically there is Remedial English 10 < English 10 < Pre-AP English 2 < Contemporary Issues in Education (HP) < Honors English 10 (HP)
so preap is worse than our CTE Pathway
Wth is Pre-AP
money grab
not neccesarily
thats only in very few schools
for most it's called pre-ap or honors just means its a advanced version of the course
like chemistry honors/pre-ap or wth u wanna call it
like for me its not a college board earning money thats only aps
and I'd assume that for most schools so like
Ap isn’t even much more advanced than regular chemistry
Its literally just general chem basics
U don’t even have organic chem in ap chem
ok it was jut a example its not a topic we need to dig deep into bud
Yeah
In california
it was called honors
Now in florida
its advanced
Pre-AP are classes a school may offer as an advanced alternative to a standard class, generally to underclassmen, to help build them up to the AP level.
For example, my high school offered Pre-AP Introduction to Chemistry & Physics and Pre-AP Biology, which then led into AP Environmental Science
I’m not sure about other schools but some schools allow you to apply as undecided. And plus I’m pretty sure you can change your major
psychology, finance and accounting are good
Is taking Honors Pre Calculus as a senior look bad to colleges?
Depends on what you're doing?
Yes
It does buddy
Does it really look that bad?
Some people are just kind of set on track like that
Like I was set to take AB by senior year and I’ve been begging my school to allow me to skip a level of math
It’s been a battle
Depends on what colleges your aiming for
What are you aiming for?
is this a list from easiest to ahrdest true
ap human geography, ap psychology, ap environmental science, ap calculus ab, ap statistics, ap biology, ap english language and composition, ap european history, ap united states history, ap chemistry, ap physics 1, ap calculus bc, ap physics 2, ap english literature and composition, ap physics c: mechanics, ap physics c: electricity and magnetism, ap macroeconomics, ap microeconomics, ap government and politics, ap world history, ap computer science principles, ap computer science a, ap studio art, ap music theory, ap art history, ap spanish language and culture, ap french language and culture, ap german language and culture, ap italian language and culture, ap latin, ap chinese language and culture, ap japanese language and culture
...
That’s for you to decide. AP physics could be easy for you but AP human geography could be hard. That’s an opinion
French is very hard
what is apwh
nah that list is bad
AP world history?
what would mean
?
lol ap chinese will be a piece of cake for chinese students same goes for the other languages
it heavily depends
Also, AP chem is one of the harder classes a lot of students say
Its subjective
ehh
Some people say bio is harder
sorry but I’ve never heard someone say AP bio is harder
is taking ap bio and ap chem in ninth a good idea
?
Chem and physics is not that hard if you have strong foundation
is ap bio and ap chem in ninth grade a good idea
Sure
Everything is not hard if you have a strong foundation
Just be prepared for hours of studying and homework. Those are 2 very hard classes.
subjective
a lot of people barely put in any work and still get 5s
Not the average student
We don’t know much of your academic background so it’s hard to say for sure
How do you know they are a average student
Ap world history
me in world fr
but then i put in sm work to apes and got a 3
The thing is what science classes would you take after
I’ve heard ap chem in particular is quite difficult without much of a basis in chem
Additionally counselors kinda suck sometimes and say you have to take certain pre reqs before taking the ap of it
Is anyone recruiting here to find a proofreader.
i think it depends on the class at your school, for my school, the teachers schedule their years so that bio is taught as if students have no background, but chem is taught as if you have a full year of background
basically i think it depends on the teacher
You can self study those subjects
How do I choose between AP mechanics and AP E&M
Like what criteria should I try choosing one on. I simply can't decide
Do colleges care when you take your foreign languages classes. For example I took Spanish 1 last year and this year I plan to take none, but next year I take Spanish 2. Will colleges find this acceptable?
Can u only take one?
My school unfortunately only offers mech
My school bundles E&M and Mechanics into one course
Depends on the college
I think they’re both one semester classes so I’m pretty sure you can take both. If you can’t though you can look into dual credit courses at a local community college
So one course two AP tests
In general though
I'm sure they do but if it's a scheduling thing then prob not
Colleges liek ppl who do foreign languajes
I was looking at colleges and they stated you must take 2 foreign languages sequentially, but I don’t if it they mean the years have to be sequential or the course has to be sequential
Probably means the course
As in you can't do Spanish 1, fail, and then do Spanish 1 again the next year
It's not that. I'm an international student looking to just take the AP exams. Now I don't hv the time to self study for both of them and I hv to choose one. But I am not able to
I don’t really know anything about international AP exams, sorry I couldn’t be any help
It's the same thing
The exams are the same
It's just that of our school doesn't offer, we can self study and go and give the test in another school
But what I wanted advice on is like which course should I take
should i take apush with ap human geo for solcial studies in ninth
@cinder gorge should i do it i am good at history
Yes
k
a good mindset is to think everything is very easy
k
guys
my school only offers aps during junior and senior year
i am shooting for the higher schools
and advice
on what to do
Take advantage of the time that you can take AP classes
You’ll want to be taking the same or more then your peers
do it by yourself
Self study aps in freshman and sophomore year
but yeah
Don’t stress too much
APs aren’t that important in admissions
But you still want to make sure you show rigorous course load. Even tho you can’t take AP, that could mean honors, accelerated, whatever is offered
mhm
but lik
e
do colleges see that i could only take aps during junior and snr year and understand
or do they still expect me to take the required or expected amount
cuz like
6 aps a year is not sustainable
I think if you want you could add that as a part of the extra info in your common app
Your counselor should mention it but you’ll also want to mention it in the additional info section. They’re not going to penalize you bc your school didn’t let you take AP’s

I am in my Freshman Year of hs... so ya...
👍
has anyone taken the ap capstone program
ap seminar and ap research
if so can someone give me tips
and like whether i should do or not
this is my plan
freshman yr im taking geo honors alg 2 honors english 1 honors spanish 2 communication and health both are 0.5 credit, ap hug, bio adv
and comp sci adv
i heard to not do pre calc in summer
its a whole different way of thinking in maths
and you need a solid foundation for calculus
i haven't taken the course yet but from my friends in higher grades when I mentioned they said not to do in summer
cause its a TON of info in just 2 months
but u do u
honestly you dont have to take an actual precalc class. just self-study ur algebra and trig until you're like. really good at it and you're set for calc 1/2 if you can grasp the relatively simple abstract concepts like limits. a bit of practice can get you a long way
unless your school requires it at a prerequisite
is thisa good list for ninth grade
Corses in school
Math

yeah its good
time to see if my school offeors these
now
can i take 10th grade corses in ninth grade
@cinder gorge can i do health in summer school for 8th
idk?
just see what u can handle
ok
Going into software engineering. My school offers these for science: AP Bio, APES, physics, anatomy, and engineering science. Honors and regular versions of these courses exist. What science course should i take for next year? I’m a sophomore.
For software engineering specifically, I’d recommend AP Physics, Anatomy and engineering science. The rest could just be for fun or what not
We don’t have ap physics
Also i can only take one science course before graduating bc of how my school works
Should I just take honors physics or an ap class?
I’m in Ap seminar so I can tell you about it: it’s going to vary per school a lot: this is cause it’s basically your school’s English 2 with a bit of AP tacked on. The AP part is some vocab words you learn and 2 projects: independent and group. You’ll do a mock group project first semester and then 2nd semester you work on the group and independent and do a presentation in front of your teacher. This is part of your ap grade. You still have the test at the end of the year which is worth 45% along with the group project worth 20% and independent worth 35%
How do you take that many classes?????
I can only take 16 semesters a yea
These are courses you want to take in your 9th grade year?
Or throughout high school?
I'm In 8th but I take algebra 2
Id say Honors Physics is pretty useful so I think you should take it.
Ok, I’ll look into it more then
Wow that's insane our school doesn't allow us to take AP courses in 9th grade
ohhh
tf
bro speedran school in one year
i heard that these projects can go towards ur ap exam grade
is that true
ninth grade
How do you take that many classes
They do
Scroll up
what is ap seminear
Scroll up
scrool where
i did
Yeah i don’t think that’s possible in 1 year 😂
Well it is probably
But like
But like
just need a lot of work
ik
My schedule only fits 16 semesters a year
And that’s bad for college apps
ik
How is that many classes possible in a year
Here ^
Like how is 14 classes possible
I take 8 at onc
How the hell do you do 14
okay
maybe i will
and ik now the majoyrity of my extracurrilires
What school schedule is allowing this
Doesn’t matter if you know them if you don’t have time to do them
someone bet me that i wont be brunt out till 10th grade
what you mean
i would still have 4 ap`s as the basic
bare minnium
?
i would still have taken 4 ap`s in ninth for thr bare minnuiunm
You have more than 4 AP’s on that list
Well bare minimum is 0
But like for your standards
If bare minimum 4-5 that’s fine
But 9 AP’s plus more classes
Is too much
Senior
hey
hi
Bro just say 8th grade
how
bro why tf are 8th graders having 4 APs as their minimum
like how
😭
i thought my course planning was fucked
lol chill
people in my school take all the hardest calsses [pssabile
Me too, but I am like… godly smart in Math.
to get ready fro high school
like what
i doing ap pre calcus in the summer of ninth
same and i am taking ap pre calus in the summer of ninth
i cant shit on myself 😊
anyway idk if you can like
mentally survive that
like are u genuinely interested or do u just want to do it bc itll look good to colleges
okay
also i looked at ur course list above
ur gonna..
do alg 1 all the way up to calc bc??
in 9th grade?
i barely think thats possible and definitely not healthy my guy like i get it but damn 😭 u have 4 years of high school try splitting those classes up
O h, ik
i doing 2 years of collage math
as well
so yes
yeah no you def cant handle that
if ur doing it just for course rigor its not worth it
i mean i cant talk bc im a sophomore so like i shouldnt even be thinking of college apps
but im only taking calc 1 + 2 and im the same age as u and its taking up a good chunk of my time
like
already
i mean sure it'll look cool for the two seconds someone cares about it but its not worth it at all
it does. it requires a lot of things as pre req
id say go for precalc then. if u wanna cruise through it still master ur algebra and trig
okay then what are you gonna do for the next 3 years
i can take ap semmiar
ap phyics c
ap math ap stats
enligh 2 honors
ap world
ap mordern
ap ap music tehorey
and moew
i mean take all those courses if you want but don’t complain when you’re gonna get a C in like at least four of them with that rigor
and what about ur unweighted gpa
???
you seen the gohar video
...
about he being valdetion
and UW gpa doesnt factor weight in
he said to take the hardest calsses
so it be weighted
gpa
most likily
besides i can disturbe some
if these
and add
he didn't say mentally destroy yourself
👍
its not that hard i did the above just in my free time in my geo class
u got this king
but he didnt take that many corses
what is the point of taking all those classes anyway
are you going to waste your teenage years studying
?
?
all my friedns are going to the same high school as me so
no
