#course-selection

Hm. . . lemme think of another way of asking this
another way of asking
like i said. i need more clarification
…
Let’s say I have Chem
do u mean by college credits or course rigor or what
Would colleges like it if I were to do AP chem or CC chem
ok ur saying the same thing but idk what u mean
Which one would they like better
better for what. ur not answering my question
refer to this ^
acceptance, i think
course rigor
acceptance has a lot of stuff to do. i cant answer that question
if ur hs councler knows about the cc then they should rate it as equalivant as an ap class for the school profile
alr
would colleges you’re applying to be more likely to accept a passing grade in a cc class or a 3 on an ap exam?
(assuming u took the equalivance of the ap class) but if u did more then that then its basically improving ur hs rigor
AP exam scores depend on the specific college
for accepting credit, ull need to check with the uni cuz not all unis accept transfer units
ye
CC classes generally have better transferability. A lot of the times they say they won't accept them but you can petition for the credit if you ca prove the class was "substantially similar" to one that university offers.
no
thanks for the responses!
This is fun
On the other hand, a lot of universities won't accept 3s. (Though Most Do)
So, instead of taking a Regular Chem class
yeeah like mit doesnt even accept 5s
I can take CC Chem?
ofc
And after CC Chem I can do AP chem?
O_O
look into the colleges ur applying to and see what scores they take
what course at cc
UC San Diego for example technically accepts 3s, but even schools within, like John Muir, will only accept a 4 or 5 on stem classes.
?
pre-req to gen chem or gen chem
Refer to this. Instead of Doing Chem in 10th grade, can I do CC Chem in 10th, and then move Debate to the open spot at 10th grade, and do AP Chem at hs in 11th grade
just get rid of chem 10th grade and ap chem and do pre-req to gen chem fall semester and gen chem during spring semester at cc
i alr said this 3x
pls read carefully
what dont u get
ik u did, and i get mixed up that many times 🥲 💀
then ask questions
what would the pre-rec be is the question
so
gen means general right?
pre- requesit classes. it depends on the cc
yes
yeah i’m saying just figure that class out, then it’ll be easier
What does the phrase: “pre req to gen chem fall sem and gen chem during spring?
the cc system works in semester(s)
O h
lemmie plan it out, u may be a visiual learner
O H
OK
these are not year long courses yeah
Fall semester of Junior yr
AP English Language
AP Calculus BC
AP US History
AP Biology
Medical Terminology
Debate
French III
(PRE-REQ TO GEN CHEM)
Spring semester
AP English Language
AP Calculus BC
AP US History
AP Biology
Medical Terminology
Debate
French III
(Gen chem) = equalivance of ap chem
I think my puny-sized noggin is understanding this
I get it. So instead of doing a year long class of Chem in 10th grade, I can do it at CC
And AP chem can be done at the same year
can u stop it with the "ye" or "yeah"? its kinda annoying
I see
ironic
AP summer?
like how i did the equalivant of ap stats in 20days in the summer
Idk if my school allows that
THE EQUALIVANCE OF AP COURSES AT CC
ur cc does
yes. they practically offer every class in the summer
there are summer courses yeah
i would rlly suggest u read what i type CAREFULLY
yes
so, i want to get credits for AP stats, so doing it in cc is not my time. But, is doing AP English Lit a good CC class?
I heard AP English Lit is hell
So, I could avoid it by doing that
idk, email ur english prof at cc
ask if its a good idea
also make sure to research professors and get a good one
don’t just choose a random prof
stfu
cc prof doesnt rlly matter as long as u talk to the head of dept at the subject
my system is prob different it seems
all cc prof knows that ur there to transfer, theyll make it as ez as they can so u can achieve ur dreams
for my cc dual enrollment the prof matters a lot ngl
well thats de
and ours is on 5.0
de is different then sa
so it seems to be different
well yeah, thats de. de is out of 5.0 but sa is out of 4.0 aka not de classes at cc classes
ah got it
i dont think u do
whats ur question
if u want u can dm me
but just note, i might be busy cuz i have this 20pg essay due on sunday that my prof assigned yesterday (im not kidding when i say 20pgs)
i’m good, i gtg anyways
gl with that
do u even know what sa stands for?
if u dont know, just ask
what
special admit
I just do DE
also what class
Basically history
20pg is crazy hope it goes well
is ap phy 1 just an elementry version of ap phy c
its the standard
im on pg 10 rn
and its not like font size 20 or something. its size 12 times new roman
each paraghaph is like 1/2 pg long lol
ap phys 1 is algebra based, and phys c is calculus based. Phys C is generally regarded to be more difficult conceptually, and phys 1 puts more emphasis on experiment design. The units you cover in both are very similar, though
if i know physics c would it be hard to take the ap phy 1 exam? also how does phy 1 have more experiment design?
if you know phys c I think you would be in a good position to prep for the phys 1 exam! I’d recommend doing some practice tests too. Physics 1 frq nearly always has a question based on creating an experiment- the question will tell you what needs to be tested and you will use knowledge of lab materials and equations to solve the problem. Look up some experimental design frqs for more info :D
im a freshman. what AP classes should i take, or should i take all of them? My school offers ap chemistry, ap literature, Human Geography AP, and Algebra 2 AP.
how does your school offer AP Algebra 2?
So does anyone know if normal physics and AP physics 1 be that different? I’m trying to decide if I want to take AP or not
there is no ap alg 2 class. as for chem if youve taken a base level chem course and are confident in your skills ap chem shouldnt be that much different although you might not be used to the rigor as a freshman. ap lit is usually taken in your senior year, its not a super hard course but again it might be a little different than what youve done in the past. ap hug i think is your best bet, its a pretty easy ap and kind of introduces you to the rigor of ap courses in a not super hard way
Ap counts towards first year college/uni courses I believe
are ap classes just for the us?
takin ap physics 1 and ap human geo in 9th 😭
thank you so much
also AP hug was the only one they offered, I just read wrong
they are primarily taken in the us, but you can also take ap exams internationally
ohh i see ty
Do yall recommend any courses to take if I want to become a family medicine doctor?
Im pretty sure the basics are AP bio, chem, and physics
which grade?
Im a future planner so uh
9th 😭
course selections are confusing in my district
pretty much
some schools offer medical terminology and anatomy classes which you can take too
AP physics 1 is Algebra based right
Yeah
Our school offers Biomedical sciences
I am not sure if that helps
That sounds good id take it if u can
have you taken biomedical sciences before?
my school doesn’t offer it
ohh
my bad
I was just about to ask if you knew if anyone else thats taken it 💀
I dont
I’d def ask around and see what others say about the class though in your school
do u have a list of courses ur taking for each year by chance?
Could someone schedule check? If you don’t mind reading through a 3 year plan.
Year:
9 (Freshman)
School Grad Requirements:
4 years english, 4 mathematics, 3 science, 3 history/gov/economics (any combo), 1 art, 2 foreign language, 1 physical education, 1 basic health, 5.5 elective (any classes that don’t belong in those categories or if you have a class from a category but already have fulfilled the requirement)
Credits fulfilled:
1 English, 1 mathematics, 1 science, 1 history, 1 foreign language, 0.5 PhysEd (going to get other 0.5 via online classes because I’m lazy), 0 health, 1 elective
School:
Don’t expect anything in top 10 USA, may go for Georgia Tech or UColorado as backup.
Degree:
Something in engineering field; most likely mechanical, but aerospace/nuclear/material are def on the table. Can fall back on economics.
APs/IBs/etc:
AP Precalc/AP World; school doesn’t offer IBs.
Grade 10
Hon English 10
AP Call BC
AP Physics I
AP Seminar
Hon Engineering
German II
Grade 11
AP Lang
AP Stat
AP E/M
APUSH
AP Research
Hon Aerospace Engineering
Grade 12
Hon Technical/STEM Writing (should I do AP Lit instead, pertains less to field but more AP credit?)
Linear Algebra
Multivariable Calc
AP Mech
AP US Gov (1/2 yr)
AP Macec (1/2 yr)
Fine Art credit (beginning graphic design or AP Drawing since I have experience w/ drawing)
Extra
-Self Studying AP CSP/CSA; most likely in Grade 9 or 10 (only have 2-3 APs, so not too much rigor).
-Taking the rest of my PE/health online over the summer.
-May self study AP Chem? Heard it’s hard, so may just do it for the knowledge and not the AP exam. Also may self study AP Micec, AP Psych, and/or AP Comp Gov (out of interest).
-Have a variety of extracurriculars. Base ones take 6.5 hrs/week, but haven’t seen/taken any school clubs (will open in ~2 weeks).
Year 9 classes if you’d like:
Hon English 9
AP Precalc
Hon Bio
AP World
Hon Intro Engineering (must take before Hon Engineering)
German I
Pretty good
AP Psych is pretty easy to self study so i’d recommend that
and Microecon
Chem def takes time to self study, depends on how much time you are willing to study
Also, I’d definitely do at least 3 years of language
Hi guys, I'm new to the server, but I have a rather random question. I want to pursue a mathematics major and I'll be taking AP Comp Sci in my senior year (my ap classes are all over the place) but I'm not sure if principles or A will help me more or if any at all will. Can yall help me with this?
Aight, so don’t self study, go the schooling route?
My school does AP German.
Would need to drop 1-2 classes though…
Could maybe do online art Grade 12? Art isn’t exactly my career focus so I don’t really think that I need to do an entire AP over it.
Or just drag myself awake at 4-5.
what’s ur ques I don’t understand
I heard that CSA is fairly easy/if you know a bit of programming and/or it’s not completely unintuitive to you, you could probably achieve at least a pass. That’s why I’m self studying.
is there an ap comp science class that will benefit for a math major?
AP CSA teaches you a bit of Data Structures which has a bit of math
Just take all the CS classes
Both CSP and CSA
Yea my friends previously told me that APCSP was easier, but I was like, why not both? 😅 so
I feel like MATLAB/Python might be a good investment sometime depending on the job after, maybe??? Probably get a second opinion
Alright thank you guys 🙏
Depends on what CS sector you want to get into
if it's AI/ML or any sort of data, yeah that would be good to learn
9th Grade:
English I
Geometry
Biology
AP Human Geography
Soccer or Art I (depending on soccer team)
French I
Principles of Health Science
10th Grade:
English II
Precalculus
AP World History
French II
Health Science Theory
Art I
Soccer
Algebra II (taken over summer)
Chemistry (taken over a community college)
11th Grade:
AP English Language
AP Calculus BC
AP US History
AP Biology
Medical Terminology
Debate
French III
AP Physiology (taken over the summer)
12th Grade:
AP English Literature
AP Physics I
AP Gov/AP Macroeconomics
Anatomy & Physiology
Clinical Rotation (two classes)
AP Statistics
I have been trying to sort my four year-plan for a long time, I think I finally sorted it. Can someone give me suggestions on it? Just so everyone knows, I attached a picture of my requirements to grad high school. So, if you see Debate, or Art, it’s because of a requirement.
does being in two band classes per year instead of APs when i intend to double major in music and something else fine?
Yeah that seems fine, though you want to make sure you are still taking the same or more AP classes are your peers
most take like 7 a year when we have 8 classes
For all 4 years?
alright
well most do IB
i mean then you're gunning for like juiliard and the like then
do u have a backup?
Bro seriously?
i mean not really but im planning on double majoring and for sure one of those majors will be music
u should try and take ap's/ib's then
it is very preferable to take max rigor when you're applying to places that aren't major geared (what i mean by this is juiliard for example- they are a music school, they don't really care about that much else)
but if ur applying to places that are strong academically AND musically
like idk nyu
which is good for music
then u need to be competitive in other parts of ur app too
alright that’s good advice
i think one of my main hooks is my musical ability but i’ll still make sure to do APs clubs and ECs in general
my main advice would be to have ur main ecs music related too but also find a second major you're interested in
you can only apply as one so keep that in mind
but like if you express interest in another field
and somewhere in there you state that you have an interest in double majoring
it'd be good to have ecs that support that too
but make sure you're competitive academically too 👍
alright, thanks man
Anyone?
It looks fine to me. I don’t have a lot of context but looks good
wdym by context?
Well compared to other ppl at your school, and how much the workload is. Your counselor would probably be a better ask for this question
Just bc, none of us go to your school
Do I need to go to school to become a paramedic and a EMT
Trust me, my counselor is as dumb as a glass falling in lava.
I would rather be begging people here to give advice for me than ask my counselor
Ok then not a counselor but one of your teachers
You sure they would be OK with me bombarding them with it?
I would hope that any of your teachers would be happy for it
Prob.
I just hope they don’t say: Why not ask a counselor about this?
prob.
Is it fine if I take AP Seminar but dont take AP Research or is that not recommended ?
What is the class abt even?
Also, why would you?
I don’t see why you wouldn’t take it, you take AP seminar in order to take AP research, if you weren’t planning to take AP research it’d almost seem like a waste of a class, bc you could’ve taken a different more useful ap class
Exactly
Tho, can you explain it to me for a bit?
Explain which part
I have been hearing this class a lot
What those two classes are abt
I am hearing these classes pop up
I couldnt tell you exactly what you do in AP seminar
But it’s p much teaching you how to research
Be able to make evidence based arguments based on evidence
Then AP research is your year long research project
YOU ARE SAYING. . .
OK, let me calm down
So, you are telling me, that if I have a research project (it’s abt cardiovascular system and i am doing experiments and essays with my friends to show colleges) it is recommended to do AP research?
My school has a class called capstone symposium honors. It’s the research project but without having to take AP seminar
Idk abt recommended
But it could sound like a good idea
Wow. Such a free AP.
You could get the capstone certificate
I heard the AP is new tho
But you’re gonna have a lot of requirements to meet
what is that?
Cert you get
I heard, do you what they are?
For taking both this aps
Try looking it up?
Wow.
OK, should I notify you abt what I find?
Yes I’d love to know more
OK. I am typing it out.
- AP Seminar is the first course in the AP Capstone program. It aims to develop students' abilities to analyze complex texts, evaluate and synthesize information from multiple sources, and construct well-reasoned arguments. Students engage in collaborative team projects and deliver individual and team presentations. They also write research-based essays and take a final exam consisting of both written and oral components. AP Seminar helps students develop skills necessary for success in both academic and professional settings.
The AP Seminar Exam consists of three components:
a. Team Project and Presentation: Students work collaboratively in teams to research and present on a given real-world topic. This component assesses their ability to analyze sources, develop a research question, and deliver an effective presentation. The presentation includes both an individual and a team component.
b. Individual Research-Based Essay and Presentation: Students write an individual essay based on a research question of their choice and deliver a presentation defending their arguments. This component assesses their ability to analyze and evaluate multiple perspectives, synthesize information, and construct a well-reasoned argument.
c. End-of-Course Exam: This exam consists of a written portion where students respond to short-answer questions, and an oral component where they participate in a team-based discussion. It assesses their understanding of fundamental concepts covered in the course.
- AP Research is the second course in the AP Capstone program, and it builds upon the skills acquired in AP Seminar. In AP Research, students design, plan, and conduct an in-depth research project on a topic of their choice. They work independently under the guidance of a mentor and utilize research methodologies to investigate a specific research question or problem. The course culminates in the submission of a research paper and a presentation defending the research findings. AP Research allows students to delve deeply into a subject of interest and develop critical research skills.
The AP Research Exam focuses on students' individual research projects. It includes the following components:
a. Academic Paper: Students write an academic research paper on a topic of their choice, demonstrating their ability to design, conduct, and present the results of an independent research study. The paper should adhere to academic conventions and ethical research practices.
b. Presentation and Defense: Students deliver a presentation defending their research findings and conclusions. They explain their research methodology, analyze and interpret the results, and discuss the implications of their research. The presentation includes a question-and-answer session where they respond to inquiries from a panel of evaluators.
Yeah.
But at least I’m taking an ap research equivalent
I will make time for them
What is that?
A class that my school offers, it’s basically like AP research
Except no credit
Ah.
And we call it capstone symposium honors
O h. That sound good, ngl.
Better then nothing 🤷🏽♂️
You know what sucks more than that
Yeah
There is “AP Pre-Calculus”. Starting at the year 2023-2024.
They sound minus well add “AP Geometry”
If they have gone this far
Yeah that wasn’t an option for me
I took precalc /trig
This year?
I would’ve rlly loved to take AP anatomy
Ong!
You will not hear that every day
Are you goin to med school?
I hope so
It’s easily my favorite class
Can yall look at my schedule
Me too. I hope you make it to whatever school you want 💎
Sure?
Ty, you as well
what if u guys have the same dream school and the pony gets in and you don’t because the pony took the spot
Nvm pony’s class of 2024
Lolll even better that I don’t have a dream school
W
Yeah
WHYYY
What is AP Math
I used to have multiple, but they’ve all faded for me now that I’ve learned more abt them
Math 35?
And what is that?
Some easy class
Calc AB idk if I should take it take in Grade 12 because our school doesn't offer BC
Even Brown and Harvard
Just a replacement name it seems
Just go to community college
O h. . .
I was thinking of switching AP Math with AP Psych
Brown is nice, it’s on my list
calm down freshie
lol
Brown, tho. ong its nice. imho
But then I have like a 2 year gap from when I do Calc Ab to first year engg calc
Berkeley used to be the dream school, but now I’m not too sure.
@proven totem u haven’t seen all the weird freshies
If u in cali then Berkeley is a W school
Out of state is expensive
😭
I live in Texas
Oos for me 👍🏽
Same
So, I don’t have any good colleges
Rice
I have to pay outta pocket
Yes
Maybe Baylor but…
Rice is my reach school
Istg, if another person offers that, I will question if everyone is a doofus
STOP.
Why don’t you like rice
Idk.
bro rice is so good
I just hate it
Why?
why
idk
To study the acient formation of Rice?
Just good resources and prestige
Me too
why did u make that rice joke
I offended my own kind
It was a fact
I would never look at rice the same way now
Rice University literally, studies ancient formation of rice.
There’s good resources for rice for pre med
I forgot the name but good hospital nearby
I’m into cs
I am 20 mins away from Rice
Free housing 🚀
Lol, yeah
u considered Ut Austin?
never heard of it
yeah
Hi
Hii
I um wanna be a cabin crew. I'm really good at chemistry, bio, sst & English. I don't like physics and maths as such but I'm just above average in it. What steam should I choose in 11th?
Yea so my brother is a really nice person
Guys. I want to do AP seminar and AP Research. What classes should I take out to do this class?
9th Grade:
English I
Geometry
Biology
AP Human Geography
Soccer or Art I (depending on soccer team)
French I
Principles of Health Science
10th Grade:
English II
Precalculus
AP World History
French II
Health Science Theory
Art I
Soccer
Algebra II (taken over summer)
Chemistry (taken over a community college)
11th Grade:
AP English Language
AP Calculus BC
AP US History
AP Biology
Medical Terminology
Debate
French III
AP Physiology (taken over the summer)
12th Grade:
AP English Literature
AP Physics I
AP Gov/AP Macroeconomics
Anatomy & Physiology
Clinical Rotation (two classes)
AP Statistics
English lit and lang
Also btw it’s ap psychology
Not physiology
Ik.
O h. . . typed it wrong
Ouch 🤕, my guy. I need 4 years of English.
Oh
For us
Seminar and research count as English
WAIT
So that’s my plan for junior and senior year
OoO, maybe it does for me
Sorry!
No no, maybe it does count for ELA for me. . .
Oh ok check
Hm. . . I could do Seminar at summer?
Idk
Hm.
Is Art required? If not, you can probably do art in your own time if you like it. Heard Human Geo is also one of the easier APs, could most likely self study.
If you’re REALLY into accelerating, you could possibly do Algebra II self study or online course? Then Precalc over the summer, but I wouldn’t exactly recommend. I think Precalc is pretty much Algebra II w/ a couple extensions. However, w/ AP Calc BC right after, already seems like you’ve sped up mathematics quite a bit.
I need a fine art class, sadly.
What do people mean by self-studying?
Wait, so Alg II online and Precalculus in the summer?
Instead of taking a class, you do it in your own time and THEN take the exam.
Usually get a textbook, find an online self-paced course, etc.
And yes, but I do NOT exactly recommend this.
You could do Calc BC earlier, but it’s going to lead to quite a bit of stress and probably worse understanding of mathematics.
And do I still get credit?
You can take an AP exam regardless of whether you’ve taken the class.
And do I do get my GPA boosted by doing the class alone?
depends on which course u take
I need to take a Social Studies Class tho to grad
it’s more expensive for the gpa boost
expensive?! what?
Ah.
How many social studies credits you still need?
yeah like for example, 500$ for without gpa boost at 700$ for with for geoemtry example
I need a a geography, histroy, us histroy, and a gov
Wow.
…Could try online?
Don’t think you need a full year class for AP Human Geo, so if you’re able to take online then perhaps you can.
Additionally, for grade 10, are you taking Art I AND soccer?
Or just one?
If you take Art I in Grade 9, will you still take art after/same w/ soccer?
No, just one
You need sport/physical education credit?
Yes
Wait, that is a yes
If you’re not actually really into sports, you could see if some form of PE’s offered online (yes, that actually exists in some places).
Could also take Art I or soccer in grade 9 and drop the other grade 10.
I want to continue Soccer
Do you need to/particularly care if it’s taken w/ the school team? If not, maybe you could try as a separate extracurricular in some other team…
AP Seminar/AP Research happen to be the ONLY two non-self-studyable APs (I think).
One of my final ideas is to try to find an online credit version of AP Gov/MacEc.
My school does both as 1 semester (not sure about yours).
Can just do online/put a bit of effort in self studying, perhaps, since they’re also easier APs.
Assuming you mean USA Gov (not comp Gov), but even if it’s comp Gov, it’s not too hard from what I’ve heard.
I’m pretty sure you LIVE in the USA, so you probably have at least 70% of the knowledge for AP USA Gov already. Macec not entirely sure, but if it can be taught fully in a semester, it can probably be taught online.
Does this look fine?
What are your credit requirements/goal school/etc?
120 credits to graduate
Each block is 5 each
Plus 1 credit for gym every year
So it’s 144.0
13 APs out of my schools 20
Is that good
I am doing it w/ another team but i want to do it at the school also for personal reasons
I want to see if that could be possible
Same here
hi
hi
i want which subject to choose in highscool
what are the options
computer science and biology
AP CSA?
wht?
AP Computer Science A?
ap meaning
now i am gonna be in 8 th grade first year of highscool
nvm
yeah i am from asia
o level and matric
and what you wanna major in or something
you are dumb like you think asians come from an other world
wtf?
major is same all around the world like we also go to universities
bro what
its not like there is another system for that
bros mad
wow i didnt know that!!!!
Asia has universities omg???
ok lmao
can i ask a question
maybe be nice to people and they'll actually help you
so wht continent is india pakistan and afghanistan is in
how tf are you so random
just answer
i dont have to
srry i got agressive
maybe go to the doctor if you are having aggression problems? this isn't the right place
asia
yay someone who is smart
then why do people call there people brown
what?
shouldnt they be asians
cuz we kinda are
whtsthe defination of asians\
asian means person born in asia
pakistanis are very smart
debatable for people in other countries.
tho i do agree
wtf are you guys talking about
What does this have to do w/ course selection?
yeah im reporting this
@hazy cypress Please refrain from off-topic discussions in this channel.
💀
Same to you, @copper coral - pleace refrain from stereotyping and having off-topic discussions in this channel.
You are telling me. . . every time I see an off topic conversation in a channel, nothing happens, but now something happens (no offense)
srry
This was a lil racist and stereotypying
Off-topic conversations are often missed by the mods, the reason why we caught this one was because of Cappuccino's report.
i was afraid that i was being. . . that
then whyd you do it
I'd disagree on racist, but would agree on stereotyping.
but whatever
yeah,
You can report off-topic discussion? How? Do I just DM a mod or something?
go to general
this is offtopic
(Once again, sorry abt what I said. I had a feeling it was rude) Can anyone still help? I will reply to the message.
Here
Below that message is my schedule
I assume you wanna take them in 11th and 12 th grade?
With your current course selection, I'm not sure if AP seminar and research are really necessary. However, if you're determined to do them, what is your planned major for university?
What courses you should take are very dependent on two things - your major, and your interests.
O h. . . uh, it is a major in Medicine, and an Ivy university (don’t judge)
He didn't ask for that
I need a speech class
Interesting
Can't you take it over the summer?
For?
it helps to know
Can I?
who isnt trying for ivy at this point
ask your counselor
oh i've met plenty in the last month
O h, I see what he asked
im not personally trying for the ivies (im aiming MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, Caltech, etc, none of those are ivies)
Ah.
does it matter? you still wanna have the best stats
You can prob make it!! Good luck.
eh
thanks :) but coming back to your question, asking your counselor is probably the best way to go about this
since there might be dual enrollment/summer opportunities that you're unaware of
(I swear, I feel like this will be rude, again.) But, my counselor (at least for middle school) wasn’t exactly much help with my courses.
same
She. . . uh. . . didn’t rlly help by giving the best course of classes. That’s for sure. I could try to ask a high school counselor, (i don’t know how to talk to them during summer)
talk to them in the fall? you're a rising freshman lol so you can take debate in summer to soph
Prob
I’m gonna take sciences , probably astronomy or bio, which ap classes should I take
Note: I want to take 2 language aps I forgot which ones and music theory
Music theory im alrdy familiar with that’s why
Makes sense
AP Physics
For sure
and AP Biology
Yeah definitely
AP calc BC or AB
your school doesn’t offer any aps, so you’ll self study, right?
AP Statistics, for sure.
Nope it doesn’t
That is correct
Yeah I have that too
And AP research as well
I was considering
Yes please!
which aps have you taken in the past? (if any)
Might seem weird but AP computer science ( I have a pretty good knowledge with T that’s
You are on a roll!!
I’m currently a freshmen
So none
OK. . . That. . . is a maybe. . .
Yeah-
One sec
OK
Yeah that would be better
CSA might get you actual credit, CSP might give only elective comp sci credit
R u going into freshman year?
I’m currently in freshman year
And do you have any previous coding experience?
So class of 27?
Yes
Ok
^
I dont even know Java but I learned some C# so im vibing
Im doing CSA as a sophomore, wasnt offered to freshmen
Only aphug was but if you can take APHUG too
What was APHUG again?
Ap human geography
Great class: Super interesting, fun at times, and relatively easy.
O- geo
I barely studied (only practiced writing) and got a 5
Nice
Its not rly geography
Probably gonna take AP art and design too the issue would be which one, 2D or drawing since
Its more so analyzing the world and topics like migration, population, culture, political geography (mostly just politics), agriculture, urbanization, and economics
I don’t currently own a tablet to practise digital art
I suck at art
Seems like snth my father would get a 6 on. He would beat the scale with the amount of his knowledge
I would choose by looking on the AP Students subreddit or discord and looking for portfolios from the 2 classes and seeing which type of artwork appeals to you more
Hm sure
I am back
Welcome back
Hm idk how to look for portfolios in the server
Just join the discord then
And then join the ap 2d and drawing channels
And ask for portfolios and suggestions
hard
I have seen this question for an hour, and since no one answered it, i will even tho i didn’t take the class
It’s not the easiest class for sure, but there are harder. It is easy and hard i. it’s own ways
Just take time to study, and you will do good.
The exam is easy if you know how to read nonfiction and how to argue your standpoint.
bro how do you know aren’t you an incoming freshman
I am
I do lots of research and. . . how do I say this. . . self-studied most of the APs
Yeah
LMAO
hi
Is physics needed for software engineering
or is it just an addition if wanted
It teaches you a lot but it's fascinating, you learn a lot about the world. It gets really in-depth, so if you like those topics then it's definitely the class for you, I recommend you take it
Difficulty depends on a lot of factors, they ask you to analyze many texts in depth, you have to be able to take a position in arguments, how to formulate sentences etc. If you're not too hot at English then you could struggle a bit
Some units are very good
Like political geography and economics
U4&7
My teacher went in depth on the economics side tho
I hated agriculture
Gross Domestic Product
I could, I just used the def for self determination lol
The nomads tho
I didnt see the table with the conflicts for the nomads 💀💀💀💀💀
I just bs-ed the entirety of FRQ 3
What did u get?
Same
I was a freshman
I thought the MCQs were so free
Rly?
Yep and self studying euro (check my bio for full things)
It was a pain in the ass to get in
And I might not even get in bcuz of scheduling conflicts
I def could get a 4/5 on the whap exam but my teacher gives a ton of stupid hmwk
What?
It pairs with wolrd
Gtech does
Ty
do i need precalculus knowledge for AP Calculus AB
It’s helpful but not rlly
I forgot everything from my semester of pre calc, everything was covered in AB
If it’s a good teacher, they’ll review everything you need to know from pre calc
Guys should i choose sociology?
In Indonesia atlesth
Would i be able to find jobs related to it?
Omg im so stressed and overwhelmed
Its my first day of 12th grade
And all i can think about is my entrance exam
Im so sick of this idk anymore im so sorry
I just wanna cry today
But i can't cause i'll be at school for 9 hours
How hard pre-calc and calc for somebody who’s decent at math? i’ll be doing AP Pre calc in my sophomore year
This is the first year AP Precalc’s been offered, but Precalc is pretty much just some building on Algebra II (I’m decently sure). Even AP can’t be that hard (+good calc teachers probably give at least a brief coverage of Precalc). Not sure about Calc, but heard it’s difficult.
Taking Precalc this year as a rising freshman, so luck off to you too, my calculating comrade.
Apologies for not trying to help for so long; not sure about what’s your goal school/major still. You seem to be taking good courses in general, but can’t quite pin down an exact major. Or are you not going to university?
Mandarin? Comp Sci? Not much of a clue.
What’s your ideal major/any backups? What sort of school are you aiming for? Ivy League, MIT, Caltech, something less grandiose on the mind? Or perhaps studying in China/Taiwan/Singapore?
Don’t quite know how to help w/out anything to build on.
If you’re going for higher university (Ivies/similar), you could possibly accelerate the mathematics by skipping AP Calc AB/going straight to BC? If your school has higher mathematics, you may try that (or slide Stat over as a mathematics credit/put in a different class).
Maybe take it easy on the APs Grade 12; assuming you’re going to college/uni, you’ll have applications to submit, and besides, scores are released in July, so schools might not see scores anyway.
Classes are alright, but there’s just no particular focus/huge commitment to a specific field. It’s not necessary to take every AP, and get a second opinion, but I think it’s better to take a class pertaining to your field/degree of interest than to take 2 classes/years for one AP credit (pointing at bio/chemistry, but this honestly goes for any general AP you’re just taking for the credit).
Apologies for the text wall.
is it recommended to take 2 majors in college
no not really, if you continue to do calc bc though not knowing how to do polar basics, which i think is covered in most pre calc curriculum, may prove to be a bit annoying
Not at all
It really matters
Like how related the majors are
Like if you’re doing a mix of electrical engineering and computer science that’s much better than a mix of history and mechanical engineering
Omg hi
Not really, my dad double majored in classics and biology
And like sure being a classics major isn’t technically super useful, he still really enjoyed it and it also got him an edge for med school
Thank you
No I’m talking about the difficulty of the double major
Ohhh
For people in America: You know how if you want to get into a good school 3+ years of language is recommended? Well do those 3 years have to be in a school year for credits? Because I took Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 in a school year for credits and was wondering if I could just do Spanish 3 online for no credits but just add it to my transcript, so colleges will see I did all 3 years but just not all in school and for credits. Specifically asking if UCs allow this as well.
I think you can do it online but it still has to be for a grade
But it doesn't have to be for credits right?
I think yes
Alright cool
So, who and how do I ask for harder English?
Which ISD are in located in?
I’m Swedish, I don’t know what ISD is, I just wanted some help in how I ask for harder English.
I have a friend who has high school level math and he’s also in 8th grade.
Uh. . .
Hm. . .
what AP physics exam do you guys reccomend ( considering i wanna do space science)
1
Do 1 and mechanics definitely
But do all of you can
Hi I wanna study medicine
My as level choices are ( I am currently in grade 11
Physics
Chem
Bio
Eng
Math
I really wanna study in abroad? Is it possible for me to get full scholarship?
if ur cracked
Do you qualify for aid?
You could get a scholarship that way
An athletic scholarship
Merit scholarship
Not for ivies but
Scholarship may also depend on other factors (non academic); are these classes normal, hon, AP, etc?
For studying in countries w/ a different language, take a course on the language, obviously. What sort of math, physics etc? All-encompassing?
Just checked your bio, apparently you’re in Asia; don’t know about courses there, apologies.
These images are my course selections for high school. I am going into junior year, and I have a plan for senior year. For context, AS Psychology and Your Life, Your Money semester courses, while AP Calc BC is two bells. Also, I plan to be a pharmacist or something close to that realm. Do you think I should squeeze in an engineering or information technology course in my senior schedule to see if I am interested in it. If so, where? The only requirement I need senior year is my English course.
Hey! Do y’all know if I should take AP Stats through High school or should I take stats from college. Btw I’m a rising sophomore. And I’m also taking pre calc in sophomore year. So do you think I should take AP Stats from high school or take Stats from College
Is stats needed for CS or engineering in general cuz I’m also tryna be in that field
i would take it
Is it hard
compared to most aps no
What
jk
I didn’t but I took US history through college to get rid of APUSH
Yh I have 90 rn
I would absolutely take it now. The more advanced courses you can take in high school the easier college will be and possibly cheaper if you're doing AP courses and get college credit
Yh but I was wondering if I should take it from high school or from collge
As College credit plus (CCP)
I would do that CCP, when I was in high school I did several concurrent enrollment courses, they weren't that difficult and they definitly help perpare you for the college experience.
I think certain CCP wouldn't give u credit in other colleges unlike APs
So take that into consideration as well
based on your answer can you give advice? i am incoming freshman and my school doesn't offer comp science principles but does offer comp science a so should i self study comp science principles or take comp science a freshman year?
there is no point in self-studying csp
you're not really gaining anything from it as the class barely even gives credit
the purpose of self-studying and taking exams is to attain the credit to take less classes in uni
CSP doesn't give any credit -- and so self-studying it won't achieve anything
you're better of spending your time on something else
take CSA, study a little bit of java now, you really only need to study the first 2-3 units, just understand variables, classes, basic loops and you'll be set
Ap lunch when?
Is this too much for my junior year: AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C, APUSH, AP Lang, AP Comp Sci A
and I'm also taking Spanish 2
that's what i'm planning to take too so i think you'll be fien
Okay cool
Ok so I honestly think this will be really hard
Calc BC is pretty tough. If you already are good with math, it might be easier, but theres a ton of content covered
Plus you’re taking physics C which is known to be a really tough course
Ap ish is a ton of memorization
And csa is a lot of critical thinking
You should swap out one of your classes because that’s a really rough schedule right there
Lang is a lot of work as well
Yeah a lot of reading
Writing as well
damn
Hmm, that depends quite a bit on you. If you're really motivated (seems like you are) and you put the time into studying it might be good. But those are some difficult courses if you don't have a great foundation.
how do they seem motivated
please explain
I know it's gonna be difficult, but I'm reviewing and doing some work over the summer to prepare for all of the classes
Taking the time consider AP courses, especially that number of them at once demonstrates a least some amount of motivation.
Its still going to be a lot of work. If you really think you can do it, go for it. But the thing with ap courses is that you can get bogged down really fast
OK THANKS
Plus junior year is your most important for ECs and stuff like programs, internships, comps etc
That's great! Taking that additional time to familiarize yourself with the topics will help for sure. It's still going to be a heavy load though. What other things are you planning for Junior year?
@broken minnow I'm joining math club and Model UN. In freshman year and my first semester of sophomore year I went to a school that didn't have many EC opportunities, so I'm gonna try and take advantage of a few at my new school
Definitely take advantage of those EC opportunities! With adding those to your plate all the AP courses will keep you really really busy. If you think you can handle it, go for. Aim high. But just know you'll have a pretty heavy load.
Thank you! I know it's not going to be easy, but I think it'll be worth it 🙂
Absolutely, and if you stay motivated, on task, and your eye on the prize I think you'll do well
Yeah and many people start work
Because they’re 16
There’s no way you work at Walmart
Also that’s not allowed
That less than minimum wage
Texas adopts the federal minimum wage rate. Effective July 24, 2009, the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. The Texas Minimum Wage Act does not prohibit employees from bargaining collectively with their employers for a higher wage.
Oh eww Texas
stfu
Fr
I live in Washington and minimum wage is $15.74
WTF MAN
Hey guys, I'm thinking about taking some AP classes as an international student. it says $125 but I need to know, is it for a course? Like AP Chem + AP Physics = $250?
Great that’s good!
Yes
Yes
what
And in fact you also pay more money to send those scores
But it’s to pay for the ap test
If you take the course but don’t take the test (but you should always take the test) you don’t have to pay that
But as an international you basically take the test
Otherwise there’s no real point
Because it’s not a course
Yeah my school does not offer any courses so I am all by myself. I'm just gonna take the test.
125$ each is too much
Okay then yeah $125 per course and more to send the scores to a university
Oh that reminds me I should do that hold up
really 😭 my schedule is like that
except
- ap span
You might be able to talk to college board about this to see if you can get discounts or waived prices on ap tests. I’m not sure if they do this or not but it’s worth asking if you want to ask them or put some research into it
ur a tryhard so you’ll be good elipsis advice was for average people
wtf
here in virginia, even for teens, jobs are easily 15-18$ an hour
I mean you could do it
but like its still crazy
Calc BC + Physics C is honestly the killer combo wombo
but then you got the annoying classes like lit and csa
and APUSH
apush is really hard to get a good score on I heard
pass rate is only 48% 😭
for apush
thats crazy
But I’ve heard Bc is easy
For math/science people
Yeah lit is bad
oh yeah it is if you're good at math, but there's still a lot of work to do
atleast that's what I heard
i mean im taking it next year
so idk
more than u will ever earn
No he actually earns a lot
He does a lot of jobs I think
oh ok i work at walmart as a side job my AO job pays me $125 an hour
damn you're making 260k a year
crazy
refer me pls
no its my dad
also if i’m taking precalc in sophomore year should i do calc AB in junior and BC in senior year?
depends on a lot of stuff
Regular precalc -> ab
Honors precalc -> bc
its a joke lmao
Depends how good you are with math in general
BC is hard, but it's definitely possible to move straight into it
if you're good with math, you can pick it up really quick
how u gonna multi calculus if u take calc ab
me?
no @cinder gorge
nvm
Jump to BC.
When should I take AP Statistics? (10, 11, 12)
For context, I'll be taking AP Precalculus in 10th grade, AP Calculus BC in 11th grade and Multivariable Calculus in 12th
I’d say 10th or 12th
Chemistry Honors (10)
AP Biology (10)
AP Precalculus 10
AP World History (10)
English 2 Honors (10)
French 2 (10)
AP Computer Science A (10)
AP Physics 1 (11)
AP English III (11)
French 3 Honors (11)
AP Calculus BC (11)
AP US History (11)
PISD Independent Study (DC) (11)
AP Psychology (11)
AP Gov/Econ (12)
AP French IV (12)
AP Physics C (12)
PISD Independent Study II (DC) (12)
Calculus III/ Linear Equations (DC) (12)
AP English IV (12)
AP Art History (12)
i feel the senior year is kinda rigorous and in 10th grade i might be unprepared or smthing
stats isn't that bad, just pay attention in class and learn how to use a calculator (for the most part).
if you have a good teacher, you'll do fine
ok thanks
ok so you are telling me to take the comp science a because comp science principles doesnt give credit? another question, on college boards ap credit search tool, why does it say universities offer credit for comp science principles?
is it worth self studying or taking cs pricnipals if im pplanning to be in health science/medical field? i jsut want extra credit but at the same time i think it would be pretty useless
csp is probably the worst class to self-study if you're going for credit
if you're taking it in school, it's not that bad since you'll get a gpa boost
don't do it for credit tho
bc had a 42% 5 rate
nepo baby?
no
Your wage is allowed to be under minimum wage
If tips consistently make up the lost money
You don’t get tipped for Walmart
You don’t??
I thought like cashiers got tipped or something
Or tips spread for workers or yk, something lmao
why
For my 10th grade of high what ap or honors classes should I take
If I want to look like a well rounded candidate
Is it by extra curriculars
Or volunteer work and such?
Ok thanks
im confused when you said dont do it for credit because on the college board website it says you can get credit for cs principles
so you only get a specific amount of credits?
im want to be electrical/electronics major
for every ap?
i cant find that on the college board website
where did you get it from?
so different colleges give different amounts of credit for each aps?
what about like public ucs or state universities?
so it depends on your major?
im confused
so from what im hearing, if i want to be in the electrical and electronics area, ap cs principles wont give me enough credit?
when i look at college boards ap credit search, the public unis in my area are giving max credit to comp science principles
they are giving the same amount of credit to courses like cs a, calc ab bc, e and m
and less credit to others
yes so what do you mean by cs principles doesnt give much credit
Elipsis said to me to not do it for credit, do it for gpa boost and you said im gonna be studying hella for 2.3-5.3 elective credits
You get credit but most schools don’t accept it
Csp barely covers maybe 50% of what an intro to cs class might
Csa might give you a semester off in some colleges
I dont think csp gives credit virtually anywhere since it’s more tailored to beginners
Is it worth it to go exam only CSP the year after I take CSA (i already have 2-3 years of programming knowledge)
No
Bruh there’s barely any cashiers now
At least where I live
There’s like two cashiers
And the rest is just checkout your stuff yourself
Should I take CS in 9th grade?
cs what
if you want to major in cs, then go ahead
Frfr
Yeah we tip less
Because our culture doesn’t have tipping
yeah same
im saying how now everyone asks for a tip 😭 . Like it doesn't matter if youre getting a haircut or shopping, tips involved
theres now tips at the SELF CHECKOUTS
Yeah
Lol the machine needs money too
I was watching a video getting hate for not tipping 20 percent
Now tipping is “mandatory”
Yeah
really only if im doordashing or at a restauraunt
I ordered a drink and they asked for a tip before giving it to me
Like they didn’t even do a service
I had to tip for a bottle of water😭
Really? That’s interesting
What topics of Calculus AB are important for AP Physics C?
