#course-selection
1 messages · Page 57 of 1
U can still apply for scholarships
Yea
There are many available
Another thing I’m worried about is that the only thing I can really hold off on is writing and my elective really so it doesn’t impact the rest of my classes
That’s the course load they give to graduate on time for freshman year
Wow, I don’t know much about courses in college but aerospace engineering is my dream job, good luck!
You don’t have any labs?
The 3 hour block is a lab
Still
6 classes
Quite a course load for freshman year
Considering majority of people take 4 classes and leave Mondays and Friday’s for labs
I was thinking of dropping logic and reasoning(yellow class) since it’s an elective and I need 4 to graduate
I’m pretty sure I already have 1 done from a community collage but don’t have any news on if it’ll transfer
All I’ll say is, freshman year maybe take it light?
You’re learning how to live on your own
How to become Independent
But by all means
If you think you can handle it, go for it
I still have until September 5th for classes to start so I can still think about it and do more research I guess
👍🏽
Hey, I’m a senior this year and debating on what courses to take. I obviously already scheduled courses, but something tells me I should take more AP. I’m only taking one, and idk if it’s worth it to take more or less, or if it matters
What degree are you going for, what is the AP you’re signed up for and is it too late already
Bs Aerospace engineering
I signed up for AP psych, I want to take AP comp sci too
I don’t have a lot of room to move stuff around
If you don’t have the room to move anything around don’t push yourself. I heard psych is already a lot of memorization by itself
Also nice I’m also going for aerospace
Where at?
There's no race to calculus. It's better to have a strong foundation than rush it.
This is pretty standard for engineering. Your degree plan will have the recommended classes, and it's best to follow it because of prerequisites.
17 hours is a lot, but six of those hours are non-math/science.
As an engineering major, you will have less free time compared to other majors. This will likely be your easiest semester.
The saying is you should expect to spend 2-3 hours outside of class studying for every hour spent in class (credit hour).
Your advisor should be able to provide this information. Another option is taking the hum/soc electives during the summer.
Is calculus even able to be a middle school subject?
Yes, it's possible, but it might not be wise or supported by research.
https://www.pusd.us/domain/2453
The courses begin in 6th grade with students completing calculus by the end of 8th grade and a variety of undergraduate college level math courses during high school.
Wow
They were told their plan was “not fully research-based,” and officials raised “concerns regarding its developmental appropriateness for 13- and 14-year olds.”
@royal swan What is a good way to get some exposure on engineering because I want to major in aerospace
Are you in high school?
Yes
Here's three ideas to get started.
- Join an engineering club (e.g., robotics, rocketry, or makerspace) at your school or in your community.
- Attend an engineering camp at a local university.
- Intern at a local engineering company (may require significant research), national lab, or NASA.
The most important thing you can do is build a solid foundation in algebra and trigonometry. It will be critical for calculus and physics.
You can intern at nasa as someone our age?? O.o
Yes, it's possible.
https://intern.nasa.gov/
They have tons of opportunities for highschoolers
What do you guys recommeed to take after biology
Im thinking about Advanced Chemistry
but they offer AP physics
so I am not sure what to take
they also offer AP Enligh III
Just take what u like
look at ur major related courses and see what aps count for what
I am worried that AP is going to be difficult for English
it can be
also do you recommend any classes that help with english
wdym
ap lang
cc
etc
oh alirhgt
How many ap’s is too many?
24
24
shut up borgie
Kk
theres only 23 aps so 24 is too much
depends on how many u can handle
30 in one year is prob my max
Bruh
L borger
lmao
omg im literally taking that my sophmore year and then taking ap lang in senior
im taking that tooo... but in my freshman year
Yeah switch that around
Yeah idk anymore you only get 4 years and well
in my hs theres like a 4 year course for bio med but it covers different things obv
like it will cover anatomy in sophmore year... thats all i remember but yeah
and i wanted to get out of doing chemistry and physics soo its a win in my eyes
Ok
Is Ap human geo or gov easier
AP human geo
Have you taken either
aphug is considered to be one of the easiest
You mean apush? I thought it’s hard
no, aphug
ap human geo
which is what you said
i bet it's horrible
yes in 1st grade
No actually my guy
usually it's taken freshman year
im taking it next year
Which one
AP hug
Good luck!!!
Which AP calc is the harder one
BC
Thank you 🙏
do u think i need to prepare over the summer for comp sci principles
No
cuz ik it’s easy but idk
just make sure you pay attention in school. The class itself is really easy
oki ty
my school doesn't offer ap comp science principles so instead should i self study comp science a freshman year?
I’m a freshman going on sophomore and have a goal school which is an ivy (Harvard, yes I know its hard and slightly everyones dream school but this has been a long time dream.) and I need advice on what classes to take. My career I want to end up with is probably a neurosurgeon or anesthesiologist, and I also have big dreams of possibly getting valedictorian (my grandparent and aunt both have gotten this achievement) I just am unsure what classes would work best and any advice would be appreciated.
AP classes
^^
Extracurriculares
Get involved in some clubs, take a rigorous schedule. Start to find some study and homework habits right for you
ok so I’m a sophomore going on junior- and i honestly don’t have many extracurricular or sports or anything like that. my gpa is decent- it’s always been a 4.0 up until this year, where it slipped a bit and became a 3.8 weighted. I want to go to a uc, maybe ucla, and I know it’s extremely competitive. what can I do to increase my chances of getting in considering my situation? im taking 5 aps next year too and I just don’t know if what im doing is enough bc of a lack of extracurriculars
basically what classes do I need to stand out or what should I take to relate to this channel
whats your unweighted
Hi! I’m a soon-to-be freshman and I was wondering if I have good course selections for next year. I took Geometry a and b in 8th grade so for next year I opted for algebra 2 honors and AP Precalc.(my other option is Algebra 2 on level or honors) I really love math so I think it would workout but I’m still a little doubtful. Next I am taking Biology honors and AP government based on teacher recommendations.(my other options are on level biology and American government) I am also taking French 2 honors but it’s online because my school only offers languages online.(my other option if French 2 on-level) I am also taking 9th literature online right now over the summer so I can take AP seminar next year.(my other option is 10 literature) For my electives, my school has this thing called GT block(Georgia Tech block) it is 2 periods where I would have to take intro to healthcare, engineering, and IT. (I’m going to a magnet school) I also made a blog with my friend right now that will progress through all of next year(link for it if you want to check it out- themindsjourney.weebly.com) My goal is to go to Cornell University. I’m not sure if I’m taking on too much so I want advice from experienced people:) thank you!!
That sounds like a great start to high school!
You’re especially already ahead in some ways
But I’m worried about my GPA because I’m sure it tanked from algebra 1
I did terrible in that
You are probably taking on too much but if it’s a magnet school you’ll probably handle it!
Wait so your middle school grades count towards us?
Hs*
Colleges probably won’t care about what your 7th grade math grade was
No it’s because I took hs algebra 1 h and geometry h
And that counted towards your gpa?
Because I took hs geometry h in 8th
And they said they won’t give me credit
Or count it towards gpa
It counts for my school system
I can only start getting credit and gpa after becoming a freshman
I got like a 88
If you can explain that your gpa is weirdly low because of a 7th grade math class frankly colleges won’t care because they really only care about high school
Nope
You’re taking a lot of classes already
So As in all of them
Makes that one B a very small difference
I hope so
You’ll probably end this year with a 3.9
Which is pretty close to a 4.0
And if you continue getting As throughout high school
Probably like a 3.96
Even more
But I had other hs grades to which I got 92-100’s in
Yeah that’s why I think it makes a very small difference
I’m not sure how they effect my GPA cuz I’m not so familiar with that system
How many hs classes have you done
5
My gpa only 3.55 🥲
That’s pretty good
Right now your gpa is about 3.8
Devi
And after next year how many classes will you have taken
I’m assuming 9
Uh
I don’t think it’s good enough thoigh 😭
13
If you get all As after freshman year
Your gpa will already be 3,92
And I calculated for the rest of high school
All As throughout the rest of high school will mean a 3.98
Unweighted
So yeah that virtually makes no difference from a. 4.0
Colleges will not kill you for that one B in 7th grade
and I assumed hat you won’t take anything over the summer
If you do probably 3.99
is your name from never have i ever by any chance
It counts cause it is high school level
Who cares? So many endeavors in life to be so many people. You are you, you are unique, just don't commit a war crime in life and you should be somewhat ok
I know I can't talk my pfp is soundwave
Mf annihilated everything
Honestly 4.0s are waaay too common nowadays cause so many schools inflate grades like there is no tomorrow
Like my school doesn’t do that so it is HARD to get an A in really any class
For what?
T20s? Yeah, it is pretty low
but for the vast amount of colleges in the USA, you still have a decent shot with a 3.55
don't focus on just the T20s. It never hurts to apply, but keep your mind open
there's a reason there's 4000+ colleges in the USA all offering great education
@smoky cosmos u from ohio too?
Also thoughts on taking Physics 1 or Physics C? idk which one to do
thinking of going into pre-med, and physics 1 is used in undergrad, but it’s way easier to get a 5 in physics C, but again the physics 1 class itself is easier at my school
but it’s impossible to get a 5, most u get is 4
for 1
Wait you’re in Ohio as well?
yeah lmao
what school do you go to if ur fine sharing?
DMs
lmao💀 we have the same name
ohio
LMAOOO
?
phy 1 is way easier
the only reason phy c has more 5s is because those people already have experience in physics
Average IA freshman
Quick question: do you live in Georgia, USA?
Also, is 3 years of foreign language enough for T20s? or do i have to take 4
4 is recommended
tbh i would take 4 because the 4th one is usually the AP one and getting a good grade on it shows that ur good in that language
k
do i have to take it junior or does taking it senior still count as 4 years of language for colleges
why would it not
lmao ok
does ur school weight honors classes 4.5?
yea
colleges convert ur grades to their own gpa scale
💀 what
i’m just joking
Yes😭
im a sophomore there
you said gt block
and ap sem
so i assumed
💀
you should join the school server if you have specific questions about gt block
Wait did you take AP seminar?
Yes
It depends
Cuz I’m debating if I should take it
some teachers provide less work
some teacher give more
the first sem is the summer work and lotf
and getting introduced to the ap exam
second semester is the actual ap exam
the class itself is pretty easy
as long as you manage your time well
most people got a 4 on the exam
a few people got a 5
homework was around 5 -7 hours
Could you explain the gpa like system. is an A 95+ avg for each class or 90+
I wish my school offered that 😭
I love world history too
I’m doing apush too and ap lang, those are the only I can take sadly because I’m in advanced Spanish
Wait, which school??? Cause I live there too
A is a 90 average in some schools while it’s a 95 average for others
Usually colleges are fine with an A being a 90 average
That’s what many of them have
Others have 90 as an A- average but it shouldn’t be too much
which ones
what grade
Im doing
AP Calc AB, AP Physics 1, AP Macroeconomics, AP Micro economics, AP Lang, AP Psych
Only 1 last year and 2 this year, yeah, in my senior year I will have a couple more but my school doesn’t offer many and I can’t take AP stats and span 4 at once (new decision from this year) 😭
already took regular calculus (non-ap), so i don’t know if im gonna stick with AB, might do stats instead
yep
idk BC is super hard at my school and it’s not useful for premed, i don’t want to unnecessarily stress myself
I have a free next year, should I try to take a senior class and if so which?
ye
lmao same
i like me econ teacher
my
💀💀
well that’s one reason to take the class ig lol
yeah
also what did u take sophomore
i only took ap bio sophomore tbh i should have taken apush too
nice
lol
The class wasn’t bad but the exam was pretty hard, got a 4 def wished for a 5
had a low-mid A in the class
FRQs got me ngl
it’s not too bad ngl
def prepare early though and know your stuff fs
Idk like college or soemthing. I think my gpa could be a lot better, but to get int OSU and Penn state idk if it’s good enough
Yes yes
Please help 🙏
I’m sure you will be fine, just explain that it was in 7th grade, that will be so long ago when you apply
Well I calculated it
It matters on how many classes u had
Then that probably means those were all A-
Or that you got a really bad grade in a high school class you took in middle school
92 or below
what
How hard is AP chem compared to AP bio?
Equally I think
AP bio harder
Apparently a lot more information to memorize in bio (which is painful) and chem has more application, so if you understand it it’s not that bad
Yeah, but wouldn't you rather just memorize like in AP Bio, than memorize+apply in AP Chem???
Honestly tho AP chem was more engaging
In my opinion
And it had way less to memorize
But if you take AP chem then bio my friends told me the order works out pretty well as chem can fill in some gaps
I wouldn’t know tho
Cause I never did that
Mmhhh....fair argument. I agree coz I also haven't taken either but I plan to do so.
Yea just go with whatever you’re more inclined towards
Have you taken honors bio or chem?
Oh def! I just finished Honors Bio and got an average of 101, which was surreal coz I just did all the extra credit.😎
Well it looks like you are motivated for bio already so arguably bio would probably be safer pick for you
Yeah, but as a Bio major, I still have have to take Chem, so I still want to take AP Chem as well
Ah
If you want to do bio major and you have any accelerated learning programs after AP bio (like dual enrollment) do that route because it is probably better at showing your level of interest to colleges and plus you can take AP chem without having to worry much about your grades (cause from what I’ve heard grades in college are more chill)
And if you can’t do that then do the AP Chem then AP bio route
But the first way is better because you can do bio all the way through and still get the same amount of college credit with little worry about chem
Np!
I am currently taking Spanish 2 in my freshman year. Our school requires 2 LOTE credits to graduate. I am not sure what to do since I don't want to waste time learning Spanish
Can someone help?
Learning a new language isn’t wasting time. I would take Spanish 2 unless there is another language offered that you would genuinely feel more passionate about
I'm taking Spanish 2 for my freshman
That would count as 1 LOTE credit
I finished honors bio. But the thing is I have to chem my junior year to take AP bio or AP chem my Senior. So I'm doing chem as a college course over the summer to try to bypass that because frankly I have some classes I'm putting off to senior year cause I can't do it junior year like AP psyc, and apes, and idk some stuff I like and if I have to put them off also I won't get to take what I want.
Since you only need two, you will be done after your sophomore year (early). Personally my school requires three language credits (with exceptions) and though I finished Spanish 3 (the LOTE/WLE was good btw), I only have two years so I’m taking Spanish 4. After that I’ll take AP Spanish bcuz a lot of top schools want 4 years of s foreign language. Plus Spanish is pretty easy, I would suggest doing a little bit of Duolingo and actually trying because I skipped a year and did way better than people who didn’t care. and I assume we are in the same school system if you take the LOTE (now WLE), but maybe other places do that too
we have 5 levels of spanish
so basically in my freshman year
Id be taking Spanish 2, Which counts aa 1 LOTE credit, for sophmore year, I have to take Spanish 3, for juniour, I have to take spanish 4, and senior, spanish 5
You have to ask yourself, will I be advancing with Spanish in the future? And is there specific credit you have to complete in foreign language.
My school is asking me if I want to take ap bio freshman year
Normally I would take physics and I'm more interested in physics tbh
Im wondering if It will help me get into an ivy league
Ik I sound dumb but still
I like spanish but im trying to take more AP's/ core classes
Is there like Honors Spanish
we do have AP spanish
Well if you had honors it would be easier to take honors and then leap to AP, but I'm not so supportive if moving from standard to AP. You might want to advance your Spanish elsewhere, like outside if sch or dual enrollment, so that you're advanced enough to take AP Spanish senior year. Just make sure it's not Standard Spanish all 4 yrs
We have Advanced spanish classes
do you think that would help?
Yeah, I assume Honors and advanced are pretty much the same. That's what I meant by Honors. Def take it. Though if you have a little prior knowledge
alright
I have knowledge of spanish in the past
since in middle school I took spanish 1A and 1B
Ngl I just use deepl translator
should I self study or nah
Like in my case, I'm taking Spanish 1, then Spanish 2, Dual enrollment Spanish 2 and then Honors. Just make sure it's not all standard. Plus I'm also already learning some in Duolingo B4 sch starts
I don't want to say anything but I would rather be careful bit to get a overload. But if you think you can handle it go for the advanced. Wait are you a freshman? If you're one, you may want to know more about advanced courses and all, you don't want to get stuck in the middle
yeah Im an incoming freshman
Im taking spanish 2
but If I self study all of it, I can take advanced
Just make sure you go slow on yourself 😁 good luck!
Make sure you find a sport and stick with it for 4 years
Im not that intrested in sports
Im mainly sticking with medical
Plz read tip #8
https://www.mtu.edu/pre-health/preparation/pre-medical/tips/#:~:text="Medical schools like to see,it in the long run.
#8: "dont skimp out on extracurriculars"
@limpid tree Harvard wants four years of a foreign language and other schools do too, keep that in mind when deciding, good luck!
ohh dang
That helps alot now
thanks for the motivation
Of course! I also wanted to maybe take another subject in my later years but I decided it would be best to value Spanish equally to others but everyone’s school and college app journey is different
How closely do you think that rule is enforced? Cause I didn’t do that but everything else about my application is pretty good
AP physics
^
....
Freshman year 😳😳😳
Take both if u can
Remove classes like PE if possible and take them over the summer (if u have any)
Ok
Cause if I take ap bio instead of physics I can't take physics until junior year
And I want to take more advanced classes
Take physics still, I know bio you can take anytime (at least it was that way for me) but for physics you kinda have to climb the ladder to get to places like AP physics c and it’s best to do physics classes consecutively
what are the best aps to self study for a junior? and how could I try to take more advanced classes?
ap psych
y do u wanna self study?
self study their prereqs for ex if your school requires you to take chemistry before ap chemistry then self study regular chem
their school doesnt offer many aps i think
my school doesn’t offer many
then thats fine, the colleges know that
taking aps isnt just about college aps its about learning as well
for example if you wana participate in USAPHO but your school doesnt offer AP physics 1 or C
then learn at ur discresstion or cc
not everyone has access to a cc borger
he never said he doesnt
sadly we don’t offer ap chem and I have to take chem anyways next year, maybe I’ll do that with physics or calc though
I can’t do dual enrollment with a cc
that was just an example
just find a way to increase course rigor
yeah, I get that, thank you
thats fine, u can still do cc
ok, thank you to both of you
not necessarily de but u can still do cc
wait how?
talk to ur councler + college councler
but basically u fill out paperwork and enroll
ok 👍
I moved to the US from Canada and I'm going to grade 9 lol idk what courses I should take
what are the options
Well most of the AP and honors have prerequisites
And I have to do algebra 1
For grade 9
do u already know algebra
cuz if you do you can test out of it (if ur district allows)
just search up algebra 1 test and if u get a 80 or more try to test out of it
take it if you can handle it
tbh i would risk it
but its upto you
do some research about how hard honors English in 9th grade is
Wait what percentage is a4.0 in us
Ok
Id say 90-100
So GPA is like all 4 years of high school
Or just a semester
Also what would be the easiest art course
Cuz I really suck at art
And drama
And I don't want it to ruin my gpa
i think they have HS art 1
in my school at least all the art courses need pre reqs— like after Art 1 u take a more specialized art course then u can take AP studio
for my HS art 1 class it was graded mostly on effort — like even if you weren’t great if you tried it was good
Why are you taking it then?
just take ap art history
My AP plan for what classes to take and when
9 grade
Classes: none (my school doesn’t let me take AP classes I’m 9th grade)
Self study: Human Geo, Psych
10 grade
Classes: Music theory (this is the only AP class I can take as a sophomore)
Self study: Ap environmental science
11 grade
Classes: English Lang, stats, bio, APUSH
Self study: Gov & politics
12 grade
Classes: Calc AB, Comparative gov, chem, Spanish language & culture
Self study: none
Total exams & classes:
Classes: 9
Exams (including classes): 13
I need feedback on this pls
Music theory is hard especially if you don’t have prior knowledge, but that’s an actual course for you. AP Gov is hard to self study.
Don’t overwhelm yourself, pay more attention to courses than self study. ECs, good writing and personality, and unweighted grades will matter more than amount of APs (still take them, just don’t overwhelm yourself)
Also, how many AP classes does your school offer?
I took AP music theory and got a 3
I’ve had prior music knowledge too via band and stuff. Def a hard class but manageable and easy to learn in u have prior music knowledge
y u self studying for a lot of aps?
Idk if this helps but some schools have ib programs. If you do it it gets international recognition
If your school dont have many AP course maybe you can apply
But it's
Rigorous
Just a reminder that you don’t have to take a crazy amount of APs to go to a good college, especially if your school doesn’t offer many, and it’s better to value your mental health and also make sure you keep up grades and ECs than to self study too many or take a ton
maybe start volunteering at the local clinic/shelter/food bank or reach out to a school to see if you can tutor kids there for volunteer hours
mental health first 🙏
im taking 23 aps anyone wants to see my 4 year plan
@strange sigil Your message(s) have been flagged as spam and have been removed.
lmao
wait if there’s a language a speak already and that lang has an AP exam can i just take the exam without taking the course
alright
thanks
just go for 28
ohh, r u ao?
then stop saying stuff that aint true
how do u know
ur 2nd claim
Trevor why u have default pfp
lmao
im ngl those articles neverhave good advice
like borger
so sad borger ain’t here
fr 😔
how do u think borger looked like irl
can u like stop obsessing about him? its kinda annoing ngl. if u like him just tell him, no one here needs to know that u like him
bro
bro he was a regular
u dont have to keep up the act we all know it's you 💀
it’s not easy to forget him
the only differece between u and borger is that you speak lowercase
he left a lasting impact on these holy channels
lmaoooo
u have to take two aps
AP seminar and research
idk
kinda useless tbh
what purpose does ap seminar + research serve other then gpa?
research?
it’s so funnn
thats it?
i hate research
what purpsoe does that serve?
U learn about new stuff
u dont get college credit, u dont get elective credit, u get no credit
just ask borger
ellipsis is a busy man
unlike borger who earns his community service hours from this server 🥹
AP Capstone vs IB
IB
IB seems miserable
i have a sibling who did IB and it was so stressful that they just quit
and this was with no ECs or anything
fr
going into junior year, debating whether to take lang or seminar
Im not sure which is better but I’m taking AP Lang as a junior
And I think it will help your writing skills for college essays
that’s what i’m thinking yeah
just hope it’s not too much homework and all
I agree, but I also know that the teacher at my school for AP Lang is good so it’s different for everyone
true
we just got a new teacher so i’m a bit iffy but she seems decent
are advanced classes like honors classes?
i see
weighted on a 5.0 scale?
i see
interesting but i think i got it
ur school messed up
lmao
“High school valedictorian graduates with 8.07 GPA”
bro 💀
ye
WAIT WHAT
Dylan Mazard, a senior at Gaither High School, has an 11.84 grade point average.
nah
florida is crazy
Mazard said he started working on his high school credits when he was in middle school and takes as many as 14 classes per semester.
and bro got into MIT
that’s so unfair
How is his brain in tact
How does bro have an 11.84 gpa
Can someone look in “college app help” chat for me please ❤️
what
that’s cap
there aren’t even that many aps did he make his own
f*ck this shit
nah
nerd
I got a 3.5 🥲
don’t worry u still got a life
me with a 0.0
🥹
wait I’m not in HS does that mean I have a 4.0 or 0.0
ok
L
he’s wrong
I got a 3.92 as a freshman
L
I had that coming
It was worth it
Hey I get my schedule on the 7th
That’s cool
Hi is AICE the same as AP?
I’ve heard that AP is slightly more or furious rigorous AICE but basically the same thing
Okay, thank you
Would getting into junior band as a freshman look good on college applications?
I’m not familiar with junior band? As a band member myself
How to self study AP physics 1
Is junior band like related to marching band? Or is it like concert or symphonic band?
So there are three bands: concert band (freshman), symphonic band (sophomore), and wind ensemble (junior)
Oh got it
Yeah our highest band was symphonic, and that was just the top
I was sumphonic band all 4 years
I think that’s pretty impressive depending on how competitive it is, also more importantly if u are in it for 4 years
Yeah, but I don’t think being a freshman in top band is like thatttt excellent, but being 4 years would look great
nvm
Sorry @proven totem Ik nothing about self studying 💀
i found a good course from Rice
Do yall recommend taking AP physics 1 for 9th grade or Advanced Chemistry
@proven totem could you send the course from Rice or the link to reach it?
@limpid tree if you’re in the US, it’s mandatory to take advanced/normal bio in 9th
Then after that, it’s adv/normal chem for 10th, and then from there it’s whatever you want
20
Yeah my school doesn’t offer the ones that I want to take into junior year and senior year. For example, my school only allows juniors to take Ap lang and only seniors to take Ap lit
That would be too many for me.
Also I could take psych and human geo as electives I guess but I want to self study them in advance since they are easy which lets me do harder aps in high school.
My school doesn’t offer gov so I want to take comparative gov as a class
Wait AP gov is hard!? It’s like one of the easiest aps
Yeah tell me too
Yeah
Oh shoot sorry
I meant 10th grade
Just search up rice Edx
take ap chem if you can in 10th grade that's what i'm taking
I dont have Ap chemistry, Only advanced
idk why 💀
just know it's gonna be a bit difficult if you have no prior knowledge of chemistry
oh then do advanced
alright

how hard is AP Music Theory for somebody who’s already a pretty experienced musician?
It’s one of the easiest history APs, and it’s not that bad if it’s in a class. I’ve just heard it’s hard to self study. Especially since you’ll be studying for SAT that year
Okay. The amount you want to take seems reasonable. I would just suggest to not self study if it gets overwhelming. But your schedule makes sense. Create changes when you’re older and have a better idea of what you’ll excel in. Good luck
if you're an experienced musician who just plays for fun, then you might not know much about music theory. i have a teach who teaches me the basics of music theory and that's all i really need, but if you really want to go in depth then ap music theory should be good, just know that if you have absolutely no experience on music theory, you might wann research some before taking it
i have a pretty in depth knowledge so alright i might
I’m not studying for the sat that year
So would it still be a good idea?
Can someone tell me how can I choose a career option between environmental science and physics?
thats just a thing they say, just develop a connection with the counclers and u should be able to get some le way
Yeah probably. My advice about switching things up as you get older and understand your strengths better still applies. But that makes more sense
I wanna be an air hostess and I can be an air hostess by taking any steam. I find maths and physics difficult. I like chemistry English and sst not so much but I can do it
Which stream should I choose?
STEM with Art as the A
yeah idk why its used so often
art is not really correlated to stem
🤷♂️
art > stem
Yes
Which science should I take if I want to be a lawyer between ap chem, bio or physics 1?
guys which yale major should be done for quant (can pick two):
- CS
- CS and Math
- CS and Econ
- Math
- Econ
- Statistics and Data Science
the ones that are "and" are single majors with two topics
mabey something that is less competivive for yale
why?
cuz lets say for bio, bio is literally the most chosen major for the majority of schools. this is y people choose chem, health sci, neurosci, etc
ok but why does that matter...
mabey CS is the most popular major, so the majority of the people who apply as CS major. which means ur compeititing aganist more people
yale doesn't admit by major...
ok?
they say that but in reality, they most likely do
no they don't
no they dont
you don't declare your major until the end of sophomore year
most people change their decision
it really wouldn't be a reliable metric
just do what u like all look good
well ik for some schools like UCs, they say they dont admit by major but they kinda do
so maybe CS & Econ + Math?
if u like it yes
same
and yale has a dual-bachelors and masters program so if I take math as a major I can take a few extra classes and get a masters in the 4 years
lmao
idk
bro, just worry about hs rn
grad school is far from now
I would not go to grad school if it took more time 💀
it would be just a bonus for me
and ive talked to a few CS friends and they say that getting a masters is kinda useless. they say that spending extra $$ on education is not worth it. Experience > education
yeah that's what I hear too
the only reason I'd do the yale masters is because it would not cost any more
but how competitive is it?
not at all. Meet the requirements and do it
yale doesn't limit how many people do it
hell if you get the required credits you can graduate yale in 3.5, or even 3 years, pay less tuition, and they won't give a shit
that's the beauty of HYPSM
it's just very hard to do so
just graduate in 2 years with masters and bachelors then
very very hard
why
nah man why go do college at all I might as well start gettig the credits now /s
if only it was that ez
ok
idk if it were easy then everyone would be doing it
people alr struggle taking 3 units per semester, only doubling that will make it very unlikely that ull get the results u want
not like 2-5% of the graduating class
ok
(i have friends at yale)
no bragging
im just saying, so yk where im getting the info from
I live a couple miles from yale 💀
I live in a neighboring town lmao
cooool
my parents also did grad school at yale
wtf
very nice
my dad did it from harvard
wdym wtf I'm not capping
bet
bro I'm not gonna share my location 💀
at yale you have to stay in their housing for the first 2 years
damn
yale got good food tho
legacy
legacy doesn't count if it's grad school tho right?
idk
what major?
because their masters degrees from poland didn't mean shit in the US
mom did music, dad did CS
and this was like late 90s when CS was niche
music? like preformance?
yes
damn
Legacy = your mom or dad attended Yale as an undergraduate. Aunts, uncles, grandparents, step-grandparents attending the college does not count as a legacy, nor does it count having anyone, including your mom or dad, attend any of Yale's graduate schools.
congrats on her
L
see told you
what is the source
some random website
talk.collegeconfidential
bro you just pulled someone's forum post 💀
💀
bruh nobody will care
it's not advertising when I'm asking you to send it to me
the mod is gonna beat my ass
gl on ur yale journey
i hope u get in
thanks

Yes
wdym sorting things out? looks like u alr got it sorted out
Um. . . just recount everything
I feel like my high school plan is messy
how so?
I’d take honors classes instead of normal if you can
Understood
Look at Junior Year
What do you wanna do career wise
ur not answering the question
. . . i got 8 classes
ok?
Do debate in 12th
and i feel like i am doing too much APs
💀
normal precalc to calc BC is a jump fs
Amazing Answer
is that with 0 period?
What’s 0 period
wdym
^^
Sighs
how’s it bad?
u saying "I can take 7 classes" means nothing especially since idk if that includes online classes/summer classes/0 period/8th period
or cc
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
its just a simple question, do u have 0 period or 8th period
or does ur school offer it
Curses in many languages Sorry, I didn’t get any sleep. no we go not have an 8th period
Isn’t a 0 period a flex period?
where u chill?
flex period?
yeah
Oh wait one’s worth 2 classes
hell no, i always use my 0 periods. hence im in class from 7am to 11pm (not kidding)
Yes
O H
whats flex period
Needed to be a doctor
Sorta like relaxing from workload
Unless your debating with your patient if they’re stubborn
no. use that period to do a class u want
I need a speech class
Oh
So, I need a speech class and a fine art class
Clincal Rotation?
Yeah
ohh clinical rotation is 2
Never diss my sport again 💀💎
Sadly
Sports mid
so i assume u dont wanan do 0 period?
smh
i do
Especially Especially Soccer
idk if that is offered
do u have any other questions?
yes
then ask

Am I taking too many APs?
And is there a way to-
Ivy
Ok then that’s a good amount
Ty
that is determined by ur hs profile and what aps count for what pre reqs by ur college
And is there a way to like take some of these classes in another time or make some space?
ur advice is inapplicable
cc
cc?
Community college
💀
Each one of those classes are related in the medical field in someway
Uh, what?
🥲
I’m just saying
so? unless u have something good to say, i suggest u enjoy ur freshman yr
I’m a rising sophomore
🫥
Am I stupid, did I do a stupid again?
u can enroll at ur local cc and get college credit so that u dont have to take the aps
and u get to pick ur own schedule for cc
And how am I hearing abt this now?
because its not talked about a lot
Ofc.
Is this during my school?
consider reaching out to ur local cc
Like during school hours
And I can do it as early as 9th grade?
yes but theres night class like from 6pm-8pm
u get to make ur own schedule
yes
Wow
some people do it at age 12
Wow
WOW
And, if u don’t mind me asking, how does that work?
talk to ur local cc councler, they have more info then i have. but basically u find a class u wanna take and enroll in the class
its not hard
OK!
feel free to dm me with any questions
And is any class offered there
Literally every class that ap counts for and beyond
I think I get it get
O h. One last thing. Will I get an AP credit if I do it?
In a cc
ap counts for college credit. taking classes at cc will count for college credit if u pass with a C or better
I see. And ofc if i do it at a cc, i will take the AP exam lemme guess.
no
theres no ap test
. . . Is there lit any catch with this?
i did the equalivant of ap stats in 20 days (at my cc) and i got a 96% which means i dont need to take any test or take the year long class while i still got college credit
they might ask u to pay for the class but personally, i didnt need to pay for anything
Wow, this is underrated
yeah if u ever have too many aps during the year, CCs are a great way to get credit
and the classes are not too hard
stop lying
they can be hard. it all depends on the prof
for me, i had to do classes where all there was, was 5 tests and after that, thats it
true, just go to ratemyprofessor and find a good one
it just means u gotta study harder
not all prof is there
but, i wouldn’t do too many CC classes if you are going for Ivy
stop lying
i’m not lying, often times they don’t accept the credit

I am going to be a med student, so that is why I have a lot of health classes
u better stop posting this or else i aint helping u anymore
Is this way better?
No actually, I fixed it
check if the schools you apply to take the CC credit
Is 2 CC good?
For Ivy?
hs counclers fill out a school profile and ur cc classes uve done during hs can count for the rigor in hs. everything aint about being transfed. also, if u do more classes, there is no consequence if u get more knoledge. ull only make it easier during uni since u alr know most of the stuff
2 cc classes per what
I am taking AP Chem and Stats for CC in hs. Is that good?
u cant take ap classes at cc lol. u can only take the equalivance of it
@ripe onyx said do not take a lot
O h, yeah that is what i meant
Wait, CC classes have 5.0 GPAs right?
Just wondering.
True
and if ur just gonna do that then just do pre-req to gen chem fall semester and gen chem during spring semester and drop chem in 10th grade
yeah
4.0
STFU and stop giving shitty advice
mine are 5?
i would suggest talking to ur local cc
for me its 5.0 but it looks like it can be different, anyways imma head out
K
yeah
Wait, then what is the point of taking Chem at a cc for 11th grade if i did chem in 10th grade in hs
I wanted to do AP Chem and Chem
Would it still be a diff
regular chem is pre req for ap chem at hs
correct
and regular chem at hs most likely counts for pre-req for gen chem at cc
and ap chem counts most likely counts as gen chem at cc
imo, its better to just drop chem 10th grade (replace it with something else) and do pre-req to gen chem fall semester and gen chem during spring semester at cc
hey! my irl had a question abt whether or not they should take ap chem the following year, as a junior. They haven’t taken gen chem and they’re worried the workload will be too much since they’re also taking 3 other aps. Would it be better for them to focus on ecs instead of rigorous classes?
consider a different ap. unless they have prior ap chem knowledge, i would suggest aganist it
ap chem is considered the hardest ap classes
@vapid moon do ivies take aps more seriously than CC?
what pre req would i do
i would ask the same thing
wdym. whateever is necessary to do ur major related classes
does it look better to have the APs compared to CC
idk what u mean by that cuz ivys is very selective about their aps and if u do classes at cc, they need to transfer
wait, both of us are not in the same page fs.
they should be consideered the same but for cc, u gotta make sure they transfer
Ik what they mean
what is ur questions
Do colleges favor AP classes more than CC classes?
That is what the person was asking
favor how
yeah
Like. . . do they like AP classes more
in terms of what.
ur question is too vague
