aluminman ions
?
Molten aluminum
Then yeah
So you just pour that in their houses?
Into the hole. ONLY IF YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO
where did you get ur ants
Funnily enough, the queen flew on me
mad luck
Real
I spent literally months looking for a queen
With no luck
Until that happened
yk
Elates can
That sounds scary -_-
(Queens/Males)
I'm not going near ants anymore
I found elates several times
It’s only during their nuptial flight season
one time I saw a deer
real close
like my friends and I made a gold mine operation(didn't find any gold)
it was so funny
and we found a deer
Oh are you new?
In the woods?
sorata
yup
When's that?
assuming spring
Oh I am too
u a rising senior
Depends on the species
A lot are flying right now
Most fly during summer/spring
I'm not leaving my house -_-
ur fine
You haven’t noticed them until now, have you?
ir depends on ocation I assume
'eey we in the same class
Yea I haven't
But I also don't generally go out
Oh btw what grade are you in?
11th
Oh same well im abt to go into 12th tho
me too
If I want to be a Pharmacist, do you think it is better to take AP Biology or Dual Enrollment Anatomy and Physiology? I am going into my junior year, and I will take AP Chemistry and AP Physics I. The classes I am asking about are for my senior year.
honestly i’d save chem for senior year and do one of the other two sophmore
It is too late for me to do that.
id take biology personally but you can’t go wrong with either option
Alright.
dual enrollment is iffy because it’s not standardized
uhhhh i got a b in precalc 😭
So just review all the trig units and do like the first few units on AB on khan and you’ll be fine
You dont have to learn the entire content within the sunmer
wait
now I'm curious
whats the difference between math olympiads and regular math?
Sorry wrong people
bud
what the flip
science?
4
science
thats basically 11 courses here
grade 11
a b isn’t as bad as everyone seems to think but you’re not going to get away with being lazy in calc im sure
Is AP Spanish hard/worth it
Because Im thinking of skipping Spanish 2 so I can take it
Spanish 3?
my school we have
Spanish 1
2
3
4
then AP
can you do both?
This was my plan, so..
Looks good
You might die with AP Physics 1 and AP Chem tho
I probably will.
ap are for high schoolers
9th all the way to 12th
I am taking BC in my senior year.
Am in 11
Is this a good schedule for sophomore year :
Orchestra
AP World history
Honors chem
Honors math analysis
GATE English
French 2
AP music theory
whats gate
Gifted and talented education
It is similar to what I took, and it was manageable.
is this a good schedule:
art 10
honors chem
honors english 10
honors global history 10
honors spanish 2
honors algebra 2
Art 10?
I would say so.
i think 10th grade art theyre talking about? idk
is this a good schedule for juniior year:
spanish 4 honors
ap cs a
physics honors (will take ap physics 1)
ap us history
ap lang
ap calc bc
student council
I think it sounds good! Make sure you can manage all of those AP's.
is this a sane schedule?
AP Chemistry
AP Physics 2
AP Literature
AP Gov
AP Macro
IB HL 2
2023?
I did that
its not that bad
well
this is subjective
really subjective
Chem, Lit, and Physics 2 😭
AP Physics 2?
that course is kinda wack in my opinion
better do physics 1
They probably already did Physics 1
strong mechanical foundations always give greater results in physics
fair
btw
how do you guys get all these AP's
like I've done 2 in 3 years
No I mean like Senior or Junior
Better funding ig 🤷
Isint it better to do Phys1 and then skip Phys2 and go to PhysC
yup
yup
no Ap's sophomore and freshman year
well I had a chance in sophomore year
but took spanish instead
bad idea
unless u wanna kill urself
Or unless ur extremely super smart and has no life 😍
7 aps = 🪦
is this a good schedule for freshman year :
Geometry (Did Algebra 1 in 8th)
Biology Honors
English Honors
Orchestra
Intro to Engineering and Design
Marching Band
no APs?
its pretty good but where tf did history go
also u should probably take a language
ohok
This is similar to my freshman schedule, and I would say it is good.
ok thx
Marching band is like the biggest time commitment
Your coming home at like 11pm
Sometimes 1am
I think
I feel like that time commitment is fine because the other classes are not too difficult.
can someone send a template for a four year plan....with about 13-17 AP classes, can take 2 courses outside of school
better?
can you send one?
no point in taking courses outside of school unless they are relevant to your intended major
colleges don't care if you self-study
Admission Officers would rather you do something better with your time than self-study classes
and you don't get college credit for most of your APs anyways (all dependent on major too)
Wait I won’t
yeah most colleges don't take a lot of AP credit
atmost, you may get a semester off
taking 10+ AP courses is good
but there's really no point in self-studying classes that you know you won't get credit for
colleges don't look at that as you being "studious". They look at that as you wasting your time when you could be doing something better outside of school
atleast this is what an AO for brown told me
Oh so I shouldn’t self study for Environmental Science
not unless you're planning to major in global health, environmental science, etc.
Ah
if you want to do some sort of science, go for it
but if you're not, there's not really a point
like lets say your going into CS, that environmental science credit is virtually useless
Oh
really that late?
I heard
I mean my school doesn’t have it
Lol
My friends told me abt it
oh noo
thanks ill need it 💀
ughh
my band camp is filled with annoying ppl
so i'll have fun
well not filled
Thats smth you cant control
my school doesnt offer ap until 11th
is ap us history or wh easier?
Has anybody taken World History AP?
If so, may I please know the rigor of the course
And how much time I must commit towards the course in order to be successful
truetrue
i heard wh is easier
but apush would look better on college apps?
it varies.. alot. my school has a teacher whos ap world class is free, and another that is much more strict but prepares you better for the actual ap test
but overall the content is easy to understand.. its just that you have to know how to apply that to topics you don't touch on in class that questions ask
so usually it'll be on events during the same time frame, as a result of a significant event.. so basically little to no comprehension. think about it like those stupid english tests.. "which answer best supports... etc" :))
@wraith rover, thank you for the info, appreciate it!
np
I took it and my teacher was AMAZING! she would often do debates and ask questions that really stuck with us espeiclly philosphical one that has to do something with that time period or leader. and make us research important people and ranking them into like a tier list which got everyone really competitive and studied harder. Our whole class became close due to amount of group projects and debates we had. But ive seen other teachers who just makes the kid watch crash courses and take notes. So its depend on ur teacher! but there is A LOT of information to remember
the only hard part is like someone above said, applying it in the free open question they ask. interperting history and its effect it had on the people and their decisions
cuz people dont wage war or create/destroy civilization and such out of thin air!
Yeah
Be proactive
And learn how to sleep w your eyes open lol
apush was easier for me because there is a lot less information needed than whap
APES AP CS Principals are easy i might take AP CS principal if I test into that level
Is it better to take AP Calc AB Junior year, then BC senior year or an (AB) calc course at a community college sophomore summer and then AP calc BC junior year
I wouldnt do calc AB all in a summer
just my opinion, but there's a good amount of content (and calculus is a pretty new topic)
does the cc boost your gpa?
what cource should i take if i want to make computer peripherals like microphones, keyboards, mouse, etc?
maybe a tech design/ engineering class
any courses related to geography and eco?
If you're interested in designing the electronics inside those devices, you will want to work toward Physics 2/E&M and a strong foundation in math.
has anyone taken AP microeconomics or AP psychology?
ok so currently im taking bio over the summer after taking earth science last year so that i can take APES next yr. but for some reason my counselor said that the class is restricted to only juniors and seniors, even though i would have the pre reqs for the class. so idk what i should do now; drop summer bio or try and take physics next year? because my counselor wants me to take chem next yr but i wanna do ap physics at one point as well. im a rising soph btw
What is E&M
Electricity and Magnetism
So it’s a topic in physics?
Yes, it's the second AP/college-level physics class after mechanics.
Ok but should I take electrical or mechanical engineering?
That depends on your goals and interests.
But I don’t really know the difference
Here's a brief explaination of the major engineering branches. It's not an exhaustive list.
Mechanical starts here, and electrical is shortly after that: https://youtu.be/pQgxiQAMTTo?t=503

Is AAA better than just doing DE ?
wat is aaa
I have. The test is not that difficult
I would not say it is that difficult. It is a lot of content, but it is still manageable. It is not a huge time commitment, but it will depend on the teacher.
Hey I have a question about what will look better for a college app. Would it be better to take just two APs Junior year and have a good letter or rec/better leadership posion OR take one AP sophmore year and three APs junior year
how are the macro and micro aps? i might self study them this year since the college-level econ course at my school didn’t fit in my schedule.
Hihi! I have a question on what course I should take over the summer and what course I should take during the school year.
I am currently in Algebra 2 honors and I got Bs in both semesters. I hear that precalc is similar to algebra 2. Should I take precalc over the summer to go forward in math during the school year? Or should I hold off so I have an easier math experience in junior year?
If I go through with taking precalc over the summer, should I take calc bc or calc ab? I am pretty busy imo during the school year bcos job, 3 other aps, 2 nonprofits, 5 leadership positions, sat study, etc. so i'm trying to take that into consideration.
Quite literally all of math is based off of algebra so honestly my piece of advice is to get down the concepts in algebra until they’re solid as hell
Because if you’re getting Bs in algebra, precalc and calc arent going to be pretty
Tysm
fun fact
yea?
Got a B
In algebra
Did good on precalc
No studying
Didn't change at all
All I changed was my attitude
Oh I wanna be a type of engineer that helps a lot
Also a add on to this there is different fields of civil engineering I believe I’m super interested in transportation engineering
Should I take a course in mechanics?
Oh how?
Ye
I was pretty lazy
Like not lazy
I thought no studying would give me good grades
Innately
Then I started to actually study
And things went well I guess
Ohh I see like you started trying?
Well
Apeta
Sorta
Trying is hard, unless it's difficult I don't like to really try
Hello
shoul i learn machine learning if im going into medicine
yes ML is cool
Hey everyone, I'm about to go into my first semester of college in the fall. I'm wondering if I should take Calculus I (4hrs/week) , Calculus II (4hrs/week), or Integrated Calculus I (which includes a review of precalculus and meets for 6 hrs a week). I scored a 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam, but I'm a bit rusty on precalculus (I took a summer course that went over it in 6 weeks). What should I do?
Did your college require a math placement exam? What math classes are required for your major?
Hello guys, so through a virtual learning opportunity offered with my school district I'm able to take AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Physics C: Mechanics. I can technically take them all at the same time but that's not a good idea for obvious reasons. So which one (or two) should I take? Keep in mind I took Living Systems/Bio in 10th grade & I'm taking IPC (integrated physics and chemistry) at HS in 11th grade & dual-enrollement chemistry w/lab (dual-enrollment, 11th grade)
Lol that was long but I need some help
What major(s) are you interested in?
@royal swan Yes, it requires a placement exam, but I was exempt because of my AP score. However, I can decide to take Calculus I, Integrated Calculus I, Calculus II, or Integrated Calculus II (which also reviews precalc and meets for 6hr/wk). If I decide to do Calculus I, then I forfeit my AP credits.
Ask to take (if needed)/take the placement exam anyway. It will give you the answer.
For best results, follow the instructions if it says no calculator, no guessing, etc.
Thanks for the suggestion
No problem. It's removes the guesswork.
CS, Math, and Engineering
Chemistry and physics are an overall better fit, but all three are good choices. If you only can take one, physics would be my choice, but my suggestion is take what you're interested in.
Thank you!
You're welcome. I hope that helps.
Where tf do y’all take your math classes for those doing uni stuff. I’ve emailed like 5 profs and none of them replied lol
Pretty sure that these are classes called "dual credit" (or at least it is for my school), where you go to a near by community college and take lessons there
Yea but I’ve already done all the comm colleges stuff
Why not take Ap classes instead though
Wym
what grade are you in
Rising senior
im not sure why you want to take classes in Uni as a highschooler (idk because im also a rising senior and don't have an incentive to take classes outside of my school)
Cuz I’m doing uni level math and high school/local comm colleges don’t have anything I haven’t taken
well APs are TECHNICALLY uni level (as advertised and credited)
just take more of those
😑
Okay third year uni level then
I’ve done bc calc
There are no more AP math classes
Past that
does your school offer multi variable calc?
or linear algebra?
and don't forget AP statistics
And AP stats
what about topology
Nope, but high school doesn’t offer it and neither do local community colleges
lmao ik it's one of the IF NOT THE hardest uni math class so i jsut threw it in there to see
Ehh it’s definitely not the hardest
what would you say is
A rigorous real analysis class prob
Its basically proving everything you learn in calc
But yea either that or a good algebra course
Topo is up there but tbh pretty manageable
Lol
well im not bad at math i jsut dont enjoy it
Yea
math nowadays is becoming an english class with all these letters and tbh i dont appreciate it
Haha just wait till it becomes a Greek class
welcome to math
that’s actually math now
gpa boost, college experience, challenge yourself
I love science but do i also need to study math to become a scientist
is it better to take in junior year:
ap lang and apush in junior and ap bio and ap stats in senior
ap lang and ap stats in junior and ap bio and apush in senior
ap bio and ap stats in junior and ap stats and apush in senior
I feel like the best option is the first one you listed
Because AP Bio & Stats will save you from needing to take those classes in College
And you can gain college credit and saving you the hustle from taking English 1A which is pretty unbearable imo
whats english 1A?
It's part of General Education for College/Universities
Hi, I was wondering if you can still get into ivy leagues with 2 years of a foreign language or if you have to do at least 3 years to be considered?
nothing's gonna be definitive, but some schools recommend 3 years, check your target schools' sites
if you look up "x common data set" (x = the name of the school), you should be able to find this information under the C5 section
Some schools like MIT want at least 2, while schools like Harvard want 4, so ti depends on the school
Question, how much of a difference does it make if I take ap calc AB rather than BC in the scope of selective college admissions because right now I’m on the track to take AB in my senior year, and I’m wondering if I should consider expediting my math track in the coming years
Yes, math is the language of science.
it takes 1 chem class to realize that there is a very thin line between math and science
If you have the choice to go straight to bc in senior year I’d take it
Especially if it’s low cost or free
Hi,I was wondering what should I choose I have 2 variants between biology-science and physics-science but I have only good grades on biology and science.
Hi all I recently got invited to separate science and I am not sure what to do. Should I do combined or separate? Thoughts and anything else I should know?
Hey, does anyone know how many AP classes are too many? To take in one year, I mean. Because, I would like to do as many as possible; although, I want to refrain from burnout and failure if there is too much work to balance.
There are a couple factors that might affect the upper limit, but I think anything more than 4 might be too many AP classes.
DEPENDS. What grade are you in? What APs are you actually taking? Etc ...
math is going to be important in almost any STEM field you go in
very important*
all depends on the APs you're taking but like the general rule of thumb is to slowly go up during your years of hs.
Like freshman year, take 1 or 2, sophomore, do 2-3-4, junior year, you could do about the same as soph, and senior year maybe 2-3-4 as well
all depends on the classes, rigor, your schooling schedule, etc.
Hello
Thanks, I'll keep it to four at the most. 👍
has anyone taken Anatomy and AP Psych at the same time?
i come from an extremely competitive area where everyone takes so many...and i'm so worried that i'll burn out junior year
any advice for the following courses?
ap cs a, ap physics 1, apush, aplac, ap calc bc
dont die
My friend wants to do 7 AP classes each year in high school. How do I convince him that he is setting up complete pain for his future self?
For AP cs a if you have some basic coding experience you are quite good to go if not then do some projects over summer while looking over the syllabus and see if this course is for you or not. For AP physics 1 again do you have prior physics experience, hows the teacher, what's the workload look like on a week to week basis, for APUsH if you are planning on going to the STEAM field it alright to ignore it for this year and focus/give more time to more relevant subjects, if you are extremely good in the basics of math(algebra 2, precalculus) then you can try AP calc bc otherwise it fine if you just do cal c ab . For aplac decide based on the workload.
I would advise him to do 2 things. 1. Talk to people who have taken multiple AP courses and can give an accurate opinion on the demand of the courses and then 2. Have him research about college apps and what college actually look for. You will quickly realize that the amount of time spent and stress that comes out of AP courses makes them seriously demanding, and eventually the effect that taking 7 AP courses is going to have on your mental health and schedule availability is going to negatively affect both your social life and happiness but also your extracurriculars and other parts of the college app
Can you take AP classes in the summer?
Ong
You can start to self study if u wanna take the exam in may
Dw about it just stay on the track ur on now
its so sad steve jobs died of ligma
I don’t know how that stuff works
I don’t either cause I haven’t done it but you should just look it up
I have a 3.86 gpa uw rn but for schools like ucla, they have an average of 3.9 uw for applicants. Im trying to decide if I should do calc BC or AB because I know for sure if I take BC I'll get Bs both semesters and my gpa will remain a 3.86 when I apply for college but I believe in AB I'll be able to get As which would bring my gpa to a 3.9. What should i do?
It depends on what your intended major is, if its something STEM related I’d recommend doing BC. Plus, colleges like looking at people that take on challenging courses rather than those that take only easy ones to earn A’s
Yup it is STEM related. I feel like AB isn't necessarily easy (especially at my school). But i get wat ur saying cuz so many ppl have said that before and i used to think that way but ig it's hard to believe after a while and not think that colleges just dump out a majority of kids who don't have a good enough gpa
What can i do for the environment with an interest for math and economics? Cant do environmental sciences since i suck at biology and chemistry lol
Urban Planning and CivilE is what I can think of if you want to go into environment-related stuff for math
maybe you could do Applied Mathematics with an Environmental Focus
So, it is better to take two AP sciences classes instead of one AP and one honors?
i'll look into it, thank you!
Bro i took 8 ap classes this year and unless that dude is naturally smart and has extreme time management skills hes gonna crack
Also extracurriculars and leadership stuff is way more important than taking a bunch of ap classes
U need to be able to maintain somewhat of a social life
would self studying chem and alg 2 for 10th grade be beneficial or not beneficial (should i spend that time volunteering)?
yes, the two ap courses would look more challenging on your college app but it would be more difficult
what are you taking next year
and volunteering is overrated
Probably impossible
Basically yeah, as long as you excel in them because AP also gives you college credit
Volunteering is like overrated
Everyone does it
It wont make you stand out, but it is kinda of necessary
but like
you don't need 500 hours or something 💀
chem and alg 2
so ur saying u want to self study the entirety of alg 2 and chem
before they start?
guys what do you think abt my classes
geo
alg 2
chem honors
flight ops 1
spanish 3
10 lit (i might waive in honors cause i had like a 92 cause im not taking another ap)
apush
i want to go to like mit
Gosh so many people wanna go to mit 😭😭😭
What do you know
yes, so i know the content and can get a good gpa
is that a good idea?
take an ap class
This is similar to my sophomore schedule, and it was manageable.
As a sophomore? Alg 2 as a sophomore isn't very impressive for a school like MIT tbh
not really
the way classes are structured
you should be able to get a gpa while learning it for teh first time
also
alg 2 is relatively free
tbh
you don't really need to
He's pretty smart. He has 2100 chess Elo and got second in a physics Olympiad
Do both -- self study and volunteer
Oh so hes like a real nerd
It depends on a few things if he really wants to do it
Is he just doing it for college
Or for personal purposes
Because if hes doing it just for college he’s definitely gonna burn out
Thoretically, would it be possible, to finish 4 years of high school in one hundred and fourth five days. Asking for a friend.
That's how I'd describe him, yeah. Idk if he can even take 21 AP classes in total with our district. I think he's doing it for school
Do u guys go to a competitive school?
Because imo its not necessary to take so many ap classes unless you wanna do it for fun and to flex lol
It's a public school, but it's pretty competitive
How many aps do people usually take
Idk, we're in middle school rn
I know that 2 people tied for first in a national physics Olympiad tho
Nah, only child
Hes gonna need a mentor then
His parents are scientists, they might be able to help if he takes physics or biology courses
damn
how difficult were his classes in 8th grade
its gonna be a difficult transition from middle school to 7 ap classes lol
The 8th grade classes weren't too bad
History, I'll admit, was challenging tho
He's in theory with math
Other than that, standard honors courses
what ap classes does he wanna take freshman year
theres not many options to choose from for 9th grade
I think he wants to take AP biology, AP world, comp science, idk what else
I know he wants to skip chem tho
i mean anything in possible in my opinion, but if he wants to get a good college - taking so many ap classes is not necessary and will probably hurt him more than help him
he needs to leave ample time for other things like ecs, social stuff, etc.
and since it seems he only wants to do it for college and not for personal fullfilment or just for learning, theres a high likelylihood he might burnout
especially since hes transitioning from middle school to high school where courses are much more difficult
i think it would be possible for him to take 7 aps sophomore, junior, and senior year
i dont know him very well, but its a bit risky to take 7 freshman year
its possible, but hes gonna have to extensively plan it out with his parents, friends, and other people, and he also has to consider if its really worth the stress and time
thats my advice
also hes probably gonna need to be strong at reading and writing as well; he can't only be good at STEM
I talked about it and researched it with him. We found out that he cant take that much Aps. In 9th grade, there is only one AP available, and it won't even give a credit this year. He is gonna take the science aps, and Lit and APUSH. Ty for the advice
not sure what ap the school offers 🤷🏼♀️
if your going into stem bc looksbetter
I think he can request for more than one, it’s up to the school to decide whether they’ll let him take it tho or not
are these good classes to take as a sophomore ?
- English Honors 2
- Literature in the Media Honors
- Algebra 2 Hon/Pre-Calculus
- Algebra 2 Hon/Pre-Calculus
- Chemistry 1 Honors
- Spanish 2
- AP Computer Science Principles
8.DE:Fitness&Wellness/Personal Fit
For 3 and 4, does that mean that you will take both?
It’s a 2 credit class, so it takes up an elective
should i take physics next year or try to convince my counselor to let me take AP environmental? bc either way i want to take AP physics, APES, and physics in high school at some point but my counselor won't let me take AP environmental even though i meet the prereqs for it. gonna be a soph btw
no history?
Not required for this year. I can but I only need 3 credits and I plan on doing AAA so I might as well do it then
Can anyone advice me on what major should i take?
Or help me find one?
Im one year away from graduating
And idk what else to do
maths advanced
english advanced
physics
chemistry
legal studies
economics
any aussies, tell me how hard im gonna fail pls, these r gonna be my subjects
Apes is such an easy class you can self study it but if u want the gpa boost then taking the class might be helpful
Its fun as well
Ye but I’m gonna do this program AAA as a junior and senior where I just go full time to the college and take basically DE classes. So I’m assuming I can just take it there right ?
I took world history as a freshman
Ye it’s kinda like that but it’s designed so that when you finish highschool you also graduate with your aa
Ye the college is FIU
Oh
I heard DE is easier tho
Isn’t ap just harder and more rigorous
Ohh
😭😭
Im trying to take all the math classes
Trying to do pre cal junior yr
And stat
And ap cal bc senior
What about freshman?
the math that you take doesn't matter that much
just make sure you're hitting some sort of calc junior/senior year
ive seen some school systems finish alg 2 by freshman, and some during sophomore
virtually no difference, you'll just be a year "ahead" allowing you to take more math related classes
I wanna take Multivariable calculus
but as long as you do like calc AB or BC or some dual enrollment calc or IB calc by senior year, it's all good
In senior year
then take it
wait im confused
whats the question here
alg2 sophomore means precalc junior and you could take calc bc senior
or you could do what I did and take precalc + calc in the same year
i did precalc and calc ab soph year (this year)
Yes but I wanna take Multi calc in senior so I'm learning geometry rn
nice
Why?
what
why precalc and calc ab same year
because I wanted to do BC junior year and free myself up an AP for senior year
my school allows us to take BC without AB i think
we can't do that
ok
I already have IB calc junior and seniro year which is rigorous
I just wanted a free class senior year
btw did you do AMC
no
okay
math and programming are different subjects and you can't compare them like that
also I like math, but not to the point where ill do a math competition
programming comes much more natural to me
okay do you think i should spend time preparing for AMC 10 cuz my intended major is CS + math
but i only have 1.5 years to prepare for it and ive never done any math competitions before
if you like math and are into it, go for it
i personally have no experience with math comps so I won't be of help
oh ok
isn't that like the hardest course in the country
In high school?
Do colleges care about the Ib program
IB students have higher acceptance rate for ivy leagues than the normal student
ok
What is math 55 about? Extended calc course? Vectors? Algebra?
Ik it’s said to be the hardest class at Harvard
what are you interested in pursuing
Maybe aim for lower math competitions first
Design graphics maybe? Im unsure anymore
should u take ap classes freshmen ywar
if your planning to apply for an ivy league
okay cool thanks
I'm currently in the program and my classmates are saying that it's getting less accepted across colleges
yeah a good amount
quite the opposite actually
A survey of more than 4,000 students conducted by the International Insight Research
Group in partnership with the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) showed that
the acceptance rate of IB students into Ivy League universities is up to 18% higher than the
total population acceptance rate. The gap is even more significant for top-ranked universities
outside of the Ivy League, where it is 22% higher, on average.
but note that these results obviously don't paint a full picture
it's just that IB is not as common in the US
as opposed to AP Courses
alright, thanks !
nothing
ib stands for international baccalaureate
here is their website : https://www.ibo.org/programmes/
it may or may not be offered at your school
and yeah you can do both ap and ib
Should I take Calculus my last year of high-school (I am bad at math but might need Calculus to be an engineer)
Yes
That's what I intended on doing but I keep over thinking the subject
Hey my schedule dropped can you guys rate it?
If so I don't remember the schedules being like that.... ever
The order as of class, room, teacher is similar
I can't math counts is middle school
If you want I can in a few hours, it's 3am for me and my brothers cat is trying to beat my dog
Just asking if I take calc bc in junior year is that a good idea
And after that should I take ap stat or other math courses(my school offers multivariable calculus and linear algebra)
I’m taking calc bc I’m junior year because im taking algebra 2 in freshman year and the most logical thing is doing precalc in sophomore year
Multi calc if math major or something related to that
Oh you’re a science nerd
yoo im the same as u
hon alg 2 frosh
Ayyy nice
Kinda
If you have open slots yeah
Im doing IBDP next year and I have space for one AP
But IB is super rigorous and colleges look at it extremely well
hey guys should i do Computer science engineering(cse) , electrical and communication engineering(ece) or aerospace engineering(ase) ?
i got a interest in all and pretty avg knowledge in all of these
what do you like more?
Do you know how each of them is different from another?
well seeing the curriculum here it's mostly 2-3 subjects difference per semester
tho i learn more programming and problem solving in ASE than CSE
but do you know what each of the engineering fields you mentioned do
like what you would need to do if you were to choose to work in that field
well yeah
i got a advantage if i chose ece/ase as i can come back to the IT field
if i don't get a job in core
but in cse i don't have a choice
Don't choose one of those fields if you're only going there bc you have an advantage
and cse is kinda flooded here, 3 million graduates each year
i do have intrest in those too
Idk what Computer Science Engineering is, but it sounds like Computer Engineering which is basically a combination of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Electrical and Communication Engineering deals with the electricity and communication of things (duh)
Aerospace Engineers deal with aircraft, spacecraft, satellites, and missiles. Some Engineers design, others manage an Engineering team, test the product, etc.
If you had to choose one
What would you choose
Can you see yourself working in any of those fields for a few decades
What did you like doing when you were younger? That could maybe help
well i won't be working for a few decades
Why's that
well programming, making drones, playing with circuits, graphic designing and video editing
i got my finance planned to retire by age 30
You don't know if it will actually work though
assumed that i would be making $2k per month
well aside from these I'm really intrested in legos
legos could be considered my first love
building multiple types of cars,planes,robots,etc
i wasn't much found of building buildings with them so i haven't considered civil engineering
Are these the only available Engineering options?
there are more
like chemical,bio tech,medical engineering,etc
Do you have Engineering Physics
well that is a common subject in all engineering fields
enginering phy, chem, math, bio, drawing are 5 common subjects in all fields
Based on the info you gave me, I'd personally choose Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, assuming you guys have that.
But don't choose one of those fields only because I said so
Are you in a hurry to pick a major?
Because if not, you could try waiting a bit and see if you still like all the three Engineering fields you mentioned
oh wow
okay
then
I would research more about each major
See exactly what you can do
i have been digging around from weeks with sleepless nights
If any programming is involved
each of them have programming involved in it
how happy you can expect to be working at each field
etc
well aerospace engineering is considered a advance/specalized branch of mechanical and electrical engineering
i can join all the jobs in electrial and mechanical field after doing aerospae engineering
yeah
What employers typically care about is experience
they don't really care what you majored in
well after aerospace my career options turn out to be in field of software, aeronautics, astronautics, electrical, automobile, automation, environmental, commerce, etc
many of the students get into these fields as freshers after doing aerospace within a year of graduation
Since you said you don't have a preference out of the three, you should try identifying your needs (salary, job flexibility, work hours, location, check which of the fields you mentioned do what you want to do) and see what an Engineer in each of those fields does in their typical day of work. Some fields sound cool, but the moment you actually work in them, you might think it's boring because of what you have to do in your day-to-day life.
Do you think you could do that in the time you have left?
Bc I really can't choose for you
well each field has it's own advantages and some are also similar
i looked over it
only salary comes out to be a factor but that is also for the first 5 years
lik cse offers a bit high at start and then less compared to the rest two
ase offers really low at start
but after a few years it goes to millions
true
but there are still some differences that are somewhat a big deal
aerospace eng for example focuses specifically on air/space craft, satellites and missiles
if you were to choose aerospace eng, you would be spending most of your time learning about that
well that's according to us curriculum
indian curriculam is something way different
Aerospace is nothing but combination of computer, electrical, mechanical, aeronautical, astronautical, automobile, automation, environmental engineering
if you see the subjects
yeah no
all aerospace engineers learn that
regardless of the country they're studying it at
that's why they are nicknamed rocket scientist
I don't see how you're defending this statement
anyway
if you were to choose aerospace engineering
you would focus on space and air stuff
if you were to learn about electrical and communication
you would focus on that
same with cse
cse prolly has more coding
I am intrested in al that's the problem
electrical and comms prolly more electricity involved
but surely one of them interests you more
maybe we should call redraider
he's a nuclear engineer
cse curriculum you gotta chose between c++/java
he knows more about these engineering fields
ase you got python,c,c++,java,matlab,web devlopment
@royal swan can you maybe help beast brain with this? I tried and beast brain still can't choose a field
now you wait
could take some time though
raider has a lot more knowledge than me when it comes to these fields
just hope i finalize before today night
6 pm currently
i got time till tommrow 2 pm
19 hrs 51 mins
I got math and phy so surving engineering won't be a issue for me but making sure i don't regret is the main problem
It will be about 2 hours before I can help.

Sure, I'm available that time
First, I've missed much of the background. What are you trying to decide?
Well from here
hi, I'm taking ap psychology this year and I want to review for it over the summer. are there any specific material or important concepts i should go over to prepare for it?
Have you graduated secondary/high school? Is this for a university major?
I am also deciding to take ap psychology this year and want to know the difficulty level. I know it's memorization and lots of vocabulary but what else?
Well i just completed grade 12 and my age is 18
What's your dream job(s) or career?
Well i maximum want to have a stressful work life for a decade and keep my expenditures nil and retire in early 30s
Well for jobs I'm comfortable with something that has math, phy,cs(coding) involved
@royal swan
Do you not want a career?
I do, it's just that working abroad wouldn't give me enough savings to retire there but it would be more than enough to retire after coming back to my country
If early retirement is your primary goal, pick the highest paying job you can stand. However, early retirement is unrealistic for most people.
That being said something directly related to software or programming is probably best
Hey guys has anyone taken ap chem here?
I know this will be different from school to school, but has anyone here taken AP courses online in school before? What is it like? My school only offers a couple AP classes, but I want to study abroad and they sometimes require multiple AP exams as an entry requirement.
Hey guys sorry if I don't answer other questions (my school system is different) but I just wanted to know if you would recommend watching domain of sciences map video as they are pretty long and I would like to know what they're like before possibly wasting 2 hours of my time
I'm on the boat w/ u
Hey these are the courses I'm planning on taking within the next two years of hs:
Junior year
- AP Lang
- AP Studio Art
- Anatomy
- AP Psychology
- Religion 11
- Pre-Calculus
- Speech and Debate (zero/flex period)
Senior Year:
- AP Bio
- Calculus
- Religion 12
(that's all I got for rn..)
@copper coral
yeah
I also don't have any other language option because I took AP Spanish Lang last year, which means I'm done with foreign lang
Oof good luck with your AP classes
Ty, I will look into it later
👍👍
🤝
😭
Um. . . Is AP Studio Art nesscary?
If you want to gain college credit for Arts then I say take it, Art classes are really easy
kind of? I finished history over the spring so I would have a free period, which my school doesn't rly approve of so might as well take an elective 🤷♂️
Hm, I am thinking
It would be better than Study Hall
Here is the thing, do you know what you will be doing in that class?
OK, you have a point
Um,
Yeah
I think doing it would be a good choice
HEY! WAIT! IS THERE ANY HARD CLASSES IN JUNIOR YEAR?
If so, put those in Senior year
a portfolio on a theme of my choice (2D artworks)
Very well then.
Also, I sent you a DM, tomorrow, I will send you resources
That is regretful.
I think just the math and science and AP lit?
tysm!!
AP Lit is needed to be moved to Senior Year
I will recommend that
I heard it's hard ap
Most people who take AP ELA Lit want to kill themselevs
Alright I will be sleeping, I will hop back in 8 hours 💀, check DMs and this channel
🫡
how comforting 😭
Very true
Psychology isn't an "easy class" it's like any social/behavioral sciences, just study hard for the class as you would for any other class
What classes should I prioritize studying over the summer for (ive already done a lot of chem and will continue to):
10th grade:
Alg 2 Honors
WHAP
Ap lang
Ap bio
Ap chem
Ap csa
Ap stats
- self studying Euro later on in the year
idk depends on your weaknesses
also wtf 5 aps sophomore year
the max we can get to is at least 4
and thats if u do summer classes and are specifically going into cs
i havent had any chem classes, and a shitty bio one
i want to go into engineering and cs
yooo moose
im in the same boat as u
just in calc rather than stats
no alg 2 obv
Ah
well working in us and retiring in a country where the expenses are low is possible
i just need $200k to retire luxuriously in my country
If u havent taken an ap history before ap euro is pretty hard to cram imo
Also make sure to get heimler’s history ultimate review packet
Its mostly memorization so if youre good at that youll be fine
does anyone have a study guide for chem?
This is my course selection as a sophomore :
Jazz Band
AP world history
AP chemistry
AP Precalculus
English 2 honors
Spanish 2 honors
Scriptures 1
Scriptures 2 (required religious classes)
nice schedule
Wow
which area of science is most important for cs + math major (biology, chem or physics?)
Tbh i think I suck at all of them
probably physics
Well I'm taking Biology and Chemistry in 9th and 10th grade respectively so what would you recommend for my junior and senior year
i'd probably take enviromental science since its easy
ok
Thanks it’s gonna tough but rewarding
Yeah lol
takes on studying in europe as an international student?
It's good, there are a lot of great colleges in countries like Ireland, UK
physics most likely
thats why I wish our school had IB Physics 😭
i had to go with bio and psych
do u recommend i take AP Physics 1 in junior and AP Physics C in senior
we can't answer that for u without knowing your school's context lol
what would you be taking sophomore year
my freshman year course selection (no ap's because freshman can't at my school)
cores:
english 1
english 2
us history
physical science
algebra 1
prob/stats
electives:
choir
band
pe
speech and debate
major?
?
what are you planning to major in
oh premed
i dont like the alg 1
bcs math is important
you're not getting into calc w alg 1
unless your progression is different
i don't have an option i was required to take this year
my sophomore year i take algebra 2, and i want to take honors geometry
okay wait so what math would you take junior and senior
Why not?!
i'm not very sure on that. i will prob have to take trigonometry and calculus at some point.
Yeah!
alg 1 in ninth means (90% of the time) you're not getting to calc
Good goal
unless your school operates out of the standards
and i'm assuming top colleges is what you're aiming for here
actually not really i want to go to my state collage
oh then you're fine
okay yeah if you do well in school you'll eb fine then
i have a question
bcs penn state isn't really that selective
my 10th grade year do you recommend taking honors bio or ap bio?
always take the AP if you can
higher rigor is better
but if you think you can't handle it then go for honors
I'm going to be honest, I don't know much about the sciency APs other than AP chem, but if that sounds good for you, go for it
isn't ap physics 1 the hardest ap you can take?
nope
it's ap physics C (subjectively)
yeah in terms of pass rate ap physics 1 has a low one for some reason
oh i heard only like 50% pass the exam
30% getting a 1 on ap physics 1 is crazy to me
not that the class is easy, but just because
It is not surprising
yeah mainly because it would be people's first intro to physics
i also definitely want to take ap environmental science 10th grade
People who do AP Phys I fail their exams. It is very very hard.
Um. . .
For premed student like you. . . I would say that is not a good course. As long as you like it tho, ig u can take it.
we are required to take it in 10th at my school
so i figured i could just take the ap as well
i heard it's fairly easy
what is the easiest ap in your opinion?
Um. . .
Hm. . .
AP World History
OR
AP Human Geography
OR
AP Environmental
I think AP World History is easier than Human Geo
i watched like videos of ppl ranking aps from like hardest and easiest
haha that's a good one google
that website doesn't look trustworthy either tbh
plus it's coming from google
Fr!!!
O h, yeah
Let me look at a list from Google
Um. . .
that second answer is so wishy washy
nvm i read that wrong
what is like in ap geo?
i def want to take that class
Taking it this upcoming year?
bio on top 💀
i can't this year
And I am an AP Bio expert
I can send you the sybulls
wait can you send it to me now?

I will be a Cardovasular/Neurosurgeon, and I am wondering if my four year plan is good.
my school only offers two ap classes - and they can only be taken in grade 12 (calc and chem). is there any way i can take other ap courses and exams online?
some kids in my school have transfered to do ap and ib at other schools but that isn't an option for me
Some states have an online state program where you can take the ap classes online taught by the state teacher. Otherwise you can see if there is any way you can connect with a local community college and take classes there, but you would have to talk to your counselors.
Any advice for my classes next year? I'm going to be a sophomore.
Fall:
AP Calc AB
AP Computer Science Principles
English 10 Honors
Honors Chemistry
Spring:
AP Calc BC
AP Chem
World History
PE
I have a 4x4 schedule at school. So this schedule is very possible in one school year.
How long until I get my high school schedule in Canada?
It is but I go to a school where our classes are insanely hard. We are known for being academic powerhouses. I'll be taking AP Calc BC, AP Chem and AP World History at the same time if I take AP World. Which sucks.
oh
well 4 aps is already a good amount, esp for sophomore year so I think you're fine
what do you mean?

Maybe take ap psych in senior yr if ur interested in pursuing neuro?
Debate?
Yeah def
Get debate off your schedule 💀
Maybe take French 3 instead
I guess so
I can not! I need a Speech class
Is it required
Oh if it’s not required than get rid of debate
Isn't A.P world a 2-year course?
Nope!
Do you recommend a better speech class?
I was under the impression that it was for some reason. Lucky me, and you
Wait, you asked that question! I just realized who said that question. Haha, hello again.
Hello
I’m taking AP chemistry next year. Hearing that its a hard class I wanted to know if there’s any resources you guys recommend? I’m currently doing BYU chem, but supplimental material suggestions would be great
Khan Academy
That's IB History of the Americas HL
What are IB courses?
Professional communications
Really?
IB courses are International Bacalurate (idk how to spell this) courses which I believe is somewhat similar to global standards. You have to be enrolled in an IB program to take them tho
I’m a rising junior and I’m going into aerospace and electrical engineering. I’m wondering if the coursework I’ve already completed is good enough for top schools and work needs to be worked on. Here’s the 4 year plan:

Sorry if its a little long, but I could use all of your opinions on this schedule thanks!
*17 APs will probably kill me
wait how are you taking 9+ classes each year?
all those classes will come back to bite you during sophomore and junior year
AP Chem is pretty tought, and AP Physics 1 is considered to be pretty difficult
and why take both AP Physics C's junior year?
there's no need to take 17 APs, most colleges don't give that much weightage to APs, and you most likely won't get credit for half of these
do guys know if it fine if i self stud for some ap exams and will those still count
yea they will still count
