yes
i hope i dont fuck my grades up
grades are only one part
my older brother had a 3.9 GPA (i think it was 1 B and 2 A-'s)
@gloomy lotus how long does it take to you to do your homework and all that study stuff after school
and he got into pretty good schools
did having an older brother help you as he could guide you throughout high school
I finish most of my work in school itself and after school I normally go for volleyball practice, come home and take a bath or whatever. Study around 1-2 hours for any tests/quizzes the next day, and then work on my npo/business, whatever
i mean i never knew this EC stuff until a month or two ago
Yeah a little bit
but tbh, he didn't know much about it before applying to college
he just did and got some good offers
yes
yes I love tutoring/teaching
it's very fullfilling to me
planning to get a math instructor job this summer
remote or in person
in person
the unpaid ones yeah, the paid instructor is going to be work experience for me
but I don't do it just for the hours
I do it because it's fullfilling to me and I like helping others
i have enough hours
i can tell
you spend hours on discord helping randoms
Making newspaper website count as ec?.
yes
You think with 2.4 gpa I have chance in usa?.
2.4/4?
If you have a 2.4 unweighted/weighted, your chances of college in the USA is (basically) super super super low
being international is going to make it a lot harder as well
2.4 is barely enough to get into a community college
atleast u can add this to your volutneer hours
um no you can’t
like I wish
But no
no lmao
wtf is this
in our school its
A, A+ is 4.0
A- is 3.7
B+ is 3.3
B is 3.0
and so on
pretty sure that's been standardized
Should I drop orchestra to do Apush even though I'm good at the class but unhappy in it?
if youre unhappy in a class, its better to try something else. Like if you dont like playing your instrument, then its not worth it to continue during school
you can do it outside school
It's not like i hate playing it (I actually love playing it) but the class is too easy and they didn't let me go to advanced 💀
hmmm, then maybe you should do lessons outside school if thatll make you happier
It's the class I'm unhappy in, not playing the violin in general
thats really dumb, talk to your teacher about it if you can
Can't really cuz I don't have the $$ or time
thats completely reasonable
it can be hard to find time for that
and music lessons are realyl expensive
So I was thinking of dropping it for apush so instead of doing 8 classes for less weighted gpa I'll do 7 class, but dropping an easy class
(bc they don't have online apush, only normal us history)
thats fair
Plus I said that ap euro is stupidly easy so apush should be no different
no
apush is one of the hardest APs
euro is a breeze compared to it
like apush is actually tough
I'm only taking it cuz its weighted
thats super valid, im doing that iwth ym aps and honros classe
Would you recommend dropping orchestra or nah then?
i mean, if you love the violin, then you should stick with it if you wont play it in your free time, but if you feel like its not going to work out in the end and you think that apush is going to be more helpful for you, then go for apush
Why would you drop an elective for a core class. A push Is mandatory core class so you will have it
No do them both
I would drop another electives
yeah sadly
@worn sable ur dream college
Ok
?
Just wanted to know why you wanted to know my dream school lol
Randomly
Oh ok
Ok
My schedule next year consists of
AP Physics C, Calc BC, CSA, and English Language.
I am debating on whether or not I should do APUSH or Spanish 3 Regular, but I’m not that good at history, so I’m not sure on whether or not I should do Spanish 3 even if it means risking a lower weighted GPA.
Does anyone have any advice?
Because I was told that 3-4 years of Spanish is a requirement for many top colleges, but most of my friends are planning on doing apush so should I risk a lower weighted gpa if it means getting an A/A+ in spanish 3 (rather than a B/B+ in apush)?
yes but that’s ours as well
yeah it's the standardized one
For my school it’s
A+: 4.6, 5.5, 6.1 (the order is regular, honors, and AP)
So there’s some inflation but not a lot
isnt ib really expensive though
Yes
expensive?
I haven't had to pay a dime to enter this program
oh really
you had to apply for the program
and then then some people would choose based off of things like grades, ec
atleast that's how it works here
not sure how it is in the rest of the world
oh ok thanks for the info
The thing is some electives/courses I have to take (cuz they're part of extracurriculars)
Here's my schedule:
AP Lang
Pre calc
AP physics
Orchestra
Graphic design (can't drop)
Leadership (can't drop)
ASL (1/2 of the language course i need)
US history (online but not apush and not weighted)
I want to drop orchestra for apush because
a) I find orchestra too easy and thus boring and they couldn't let me do anything hard
b) I'll do 7 classes that'll give me a high weighted gpa rather than 8 classes with less weighted gpa
Can you do ASL over the summer?
The thing is having music and commitment to it looks really good
Nope
do colleges care whether a grade is an A- or an A+
Nope
I can join orchestra again my senior year
It's what your high school makes of it
It doesn't go in to as an A in their system if you mean
But having an A is generally better than an A-
Well ok
well for us it’s like if ur grade is above a 90 it’s an A
if not then if it’s above an 80 it’s a B
and etc
and an A is 4.0
a B is 3.0
what about ap credit?
Hello, I'm wondering what class I should take after AP Government? I took APUSH freshmen year then AP Gov sophomore year. I've been having trouble deciding what to do next year.
AP World or Euro
You should do world then euro
I'm mostly considering this cuz I want to have 7 classes for a better gpa boost
And sacrificing a class for a year might do it
What courses should I take/review over the summer to prepare for whap and hug?
And is being in general spanish (not qualifying for AP Spanish) necessarily bad?
Past few months, I've tried finding and have reduced down what career paths I see right now. I will either have to take bio, chem and phy for 2 years, then graduate with a degree in courses like BSc Neurology (keeping in mind I do not want to do pre-med etc). The other option being, doing Business Admin and Economics etc(with no math) for 2 years and then getting a bachelors in business related courses.
Obviously, both have mathematics involved, a big reason I'm wary of choosing sciences is DUE to dealing with physics and the complications. I also know that Economics will break down into complex math later as well.
Which course has more flexible math?
^^^
What classes should i pick for junior year?? (and what classes should i have before i graduate to get into the colleges / major i want)
For background im looking to major in music (stuff like performance/songwriting/business/general pop music/etc NOT education) I’ve been playing guitar since 12 and have been singing for a year.
ECs i’ve done during the school year include Jazz band, Show Choir, Rock Band, and Drama Club at the school and my own band + the gym outside of.
looking to apply at berklee and usc thornton popular music
is guitar an instrument in rock band
yes. i’m practically the second teacher or director or whatever you wanna call it of that ensemble
do u perform and if yes how often
im an 8th grader and i was thinking of quitting guitar because it may not be worth it but idk
yes. it’s a new ensemble that they started my freshman year but relatively frequently. teachers currently on maternity leave so there weren’t too many this year. probably coming back soon though because his wife’s starting to come back around (she’s my vocal coach)
Has anyone taken Grade 12 Data Management in Canada? Is it much easier than advanced functions?
is ap econ hard?
alot of presentations?
.
Bc he wanted easy college credit
You always wanna keep the 4 core subjects
English 3- Junior Level Year Algebra II/PreCalculus Honors if applicable U.S History/AP U.S History, Physics/AP Physics
I would recommend a choir, or instrumental class
Depending on what type of music
Since you can usually chosse two electives
english is hell for me personally
planning on show choir. ap music theory again since i had to swap to online last year and couldn’t complete the task. thinking ap lang euro and bio. can’t do pre calc so can’t do any ap math sadly
How about you do AP Statistics
you can do that instead of pre calc senior year? i thought pre calc was a requirement
It can save you the hustle of doing math in college
should i remove german and take ap stat or comp sci so i can take ap comp
but if i can i’d honestly rather do that i hate traditional math but i’m good at the stats stuff i’ve done
The only requirement for Statsitics is Algebra II
I might take stat
i’m considering doing one other ap elective ontop of the 3 cores and music theory but i don’t know if it’d be too much
idk
Both regular and AP
Algebra II is the prerequisite
Yay
Congrats
Also I recommend taking AP English
Last year of high school
Trust me on this one
You can always balanced them out
One of my friends who graduated was doing
AP English IV, AP Statistics, AP Biology, & AP Psychology
When he got into college, he didn't need to take an English, Math, Lab Science, or Social Science class
He cleared out 4 units credit for English, 3 units credit for Stats, 4 units for Biology, & 3 units for Psyc
isn’t there both lang and lit though
we dont got ap psys
the way my school structures it is pre ap english 9 and 10 or ap sem and research if you applied for the capstone program and then lang 11th and lit 12th
i wish i did
Cool
Me too
I wish I had taken at least one AP class
But oh well
At least I'm acing college
😎
honestly let’s be fr 99% of people end up in the same state school for most high schools
Fr
half the time the valedictorian and the people that barely graduated end up at the same school
The good thing is that I have a scholarship
i can’t go to college if i don’t get a full ride
And it pays for my college tuition
so 🤷♂️
i mostly take aps out of boredom if i’m being totally honest
shoot nice what college you get into
^^
AP World History and Human Geo
I say just watch some Youtube vids
I recommend crash courses
Crash Course makes anything entertaining and fun
Ok I will check it out thx
do i need to take more than two years of a language if i’m majoring in music? no right like two is enough
most music schools i assumed really wouldn’t care too much, but alright
probably not going to do it regardless spanish tanked my gpa
search up your music school's common data set i think
they mention whether it is recommend or not
berklees academic requirements are completely blank for some reason, usc recommends 3 but 2 is required
I start to run out of courses if I don’t take ap classes. The problem is I am set to take a total of 14 aps
I don’t know if I can handle or even pay for that many ap’s so what shud i do?
I haven't taken aps before, but from what I know, you should choose aps that are beneficial to you and that you can handle.
If you can I would also take dual enrollment at your local community college
There are very little courses i can take through dual enrollment
Mobile Application development, Sociology (0.5), Psychology (0.5) and that’s it
also for people who have taken dual enrollment it says “course credit hours” for the college and it says like 6 hrs
what does that mean
hey I might not be able to take AP Physics 1 junior year But I was looking into IB classes? As an american, where do I begin the process of taking an IB course, how can it affect my admissions, and how good does it look on my application instead of taking the corresponding Ap course
Idk about music schools but I heard they are audition based so practice music a lot I guess.
Oh that’s how much credit you get
U get 6 credits
Would you recommend me taking ap physics 1 or Ap Us history for my sophomore year?
They’re both different subjects
Take both if you can
Otherwise do what is more related to your intended major
Hey so I was thinking abt taking AP physics but ik it's one of the hardest APs
Should I take it?
Or environmental sci AP instead
It depends on you. If you feel like you are extremely interested and can balance it with all your other subjects, and can give enough time to it then go for it but if you already feel like your other courses are making you stress or crunch time, then you know the alternative.
Yes
you can always self study and just take an ap exam without taking the class
don't be worried because people say its hard. If you truly like physics then by that logic you will do good in it cause you deeply care about it
Hey so how much does taking AP physics 1 senior year matter? I missed my chance junior year but plan on taking 3 aps senior year. In the end is it worth the effort or should I just go on to take normal physics 2 senior.
I'm only maturing enough now to realize how royaly I forked up
That depends! If you got accepted to your colleges junior year, then you shouldn't have to. However, if you are looking to apply to more in senior year, then you should
Yes my sophomore year was terrible by all standards
So I think my only hope is applying senior year
Was there any valid excuse for why? (ex: loss/grief, big life change, etc). Bc if so then they should be more forgiving
My average went from 3.0 to a 2.7 if I get lucky on the finals
I talk about an illness in the family
Sure!
So I am 9th grade currently
and in september I am becoming 10th grade
my goal is to be a computer science major in a university
I was confused on what AP I should take
Yep I am planning to take AP computer science principles
I cannot take AP math because I haven't learned calculus
or maybe I can
I am finishing up Algebra 2 this year
Ap math classes are typically the one you learn calculus in
Maybe AP stats @golden cedar
For comp sci?
I am confused on what I should take
ye
I heard that our school counselor is bad at counsling
Makes sense
but I don't know what course to take next year
even if I want to take either AP stats or AP pre-cal, I don't think the school will support it
maybe AP stats?
I think that would be better but u should research it a bit
ok
thanks
oh btw
i heard a myth or maybe it is a fact, is it true that if you want to go to good university you have to take at least 6?
not at all!
well actually
it depends on ur definition
Bc if u wanna go to an ivy
or just a kinda prestigious school
then u should
ah ha
Hahahaha
I must choose 2 AP exams, what do I choose? I am going from grade 9 to 10
senior schedule plan. Didn't really have the best sopomore/junior schedule so I want to make up for it despite my little time left
AP Calculus AB
AP Statistics
DE English 12
DE Government
Cybersecurity Operations H
Physics H
Robotics
Not sure how much I could change. I already like the electives and I want my humanities to be dual enrollment. I want to major in CS
yes
Is this a good schedule for 9th
Algebra 2 H
AP World History
Chemistry H
English 9 H
AP Human Geo
Orchestra H
AP Computer Science A
Spanish 1
Study Hall
This is probably the 3rd or 4th most rigorous schedule that a freshman can take. I am planning on studying medicene.
how do u have so many periods
10/10
Why are you taking both World History and Human Geo in one year?
It's pretty useless unless you're tryna major in Humanities
They are the only APs that I can take in freshman year besides csa
I wouldn't recommend taking it but if you can handle it go for it
Im pretty good at history so I think I can
Thanks
You’ll run out of courses later on tho
like you’ll be forced to take on level courses
dual enrollment classes
there are like 30 AP courses
oh yeah, sorry my school offers like so little dual enrollment classes
that’s sm money tho
and time for aps
My friend said that APs were only 20$ if you pay in August
wtf dude
Mabye that does something?
thats crazy how did he take calc bc in 8th grade
what classes is he gonna take in high school
Multivar and AP Stats
Thats only for 2 years
Then Linear alg
There is only one at our school
Hes doing both multivar and ap stats in freshman
Yeah
he might get into top schools tho
But he said that he crushed the calc test
does that mean good or bad?
Good
oh okay lol
what math are u gonna take in sophmore @feral lava
curious if ur skipping precalc
Alg2
I cant skip precalc since im in a program where all math is special from H or advanced
So Precal
But I get to skip Calc AC
*AB
i know but i cant skip it
Oh
Can you take it over the summer?
nope its too late now
Oh, most of my friends skipped it
i didnt register for the test that places me in Algebra 2
But they said to just skip alg 2
its okay though i have an year to study for alg 2
I didnt need to, they just put me in
We only have a test to skip pre alg
geometry is a prereq for algebra 2 in my school
yeah thats what i was tryna do but i had to take an exam to show that i know geometry and i forgot to register for it
How abt english
Nice
We can only do that if were in the program
Seminar?
Yes
im not really a tryhard for english
what
We had a test in 6th grade for double adv english
And the program allows us to skip eng2 and take ap sem
U took English 2 (10th grade) in 6th grade?
so why arent u in eng 2 in 9th grade
I failed the test for it

And had to take regular
Thats ok since I can still take AP Lang and Lit
yeah in 11 and 12 grades
I suck at CS
why u taking AP CSA?
It is a requirement for my program graduation
oof
So I wanted to get it our of the way
Same
which one u taking and when
Im doing it over the summer
Yes
phew
There are juniors with us
lool
They actually destroy everyone in PE
which one did u take
Wdym
like are there different options for PE
ok
We hae to take health too
oh i dont think my new district has that requirement
And a year of humanities
fine art?
take AP art history
Im not good at art, and you have to audition for AP Art history
frick
Besides I think that our school doesnt offer it
what u gonna do then
Ill do Orch H
i dont even do music
Oh
did u do it in middle school
Yeah
You can start practicing a instrument over the summer and apply for adv orch/band
i dont think u have to audition for art history
I play the guitar
but thats not a instrument
😭
You can do jazz band then right?
We have a class called Jazz Band Honors
i dont think my school does
the thing is im switching school districts
in 2 months?
too hard
not worth it
money
Yeah
would rather learn more coding
Since private lessons are a hella expensive
im learning guitar anyways
yeah i do for guitar and i've already invested so much money and it feels like im gonna waste it
Same
hopefully i can join jazz club in HS
Yeah
ill have something to show for it in college apps
That will look good on your app
Same
🤓
im kinda shi so im 1000 USCF
Im worse
o
Me too lol
byee
Bye
please help
??!! never knew that, thanks
is it worth self studying ap hug or ap macroecomnics? econimics is required for graduation, so i was thinking is it worth taking a full year of ap macro (if i plan to take it instead of self studying). or should i just take a semester worth of regular econimcs
what’s the highest rigor
Corporate Lawyer or Investment Banker?
my two career paths - I need to take one but I’m mot sure which
My two dream career paths
i want the one that generates more money
and suggestions?
lawyer is more academically rigorous, i don’t think it’s fair to choose just based on money
Lawyer is more lucrative, but the thing with lawyer is that you can go to a mediocre school for prelaw, and then apply to top schools for law
with IB, prestige does actually matter a lot
so the college you go does matter in terms of job opportunities for IB (Investment Banking)
like I've heard some top companies hire exclusively from the IVYs
Hey what do you guys select in a good college for studying journalism and/or an elective that involves me into becoming an author
are you looking for good Extracurriculars for journalism?
or good colleges for journalism
good colleges
https://www.collegefactual.com/majors/communication-journalism-media/journalism/rankings/top-ranked/
oh thx Elipsis
^^
i have some questions about whether or not i should go to college?!
Do I choose AP Calculus AB or BC?
Choose the major related to a subject you are interested in.
Yes definitely go to college
but i would not like to go into debt
Then it’s your choice
I am not forcing you
I know
I just want to know that what I’m paying for is something I’ll actually use and it’s very useful and works
Umm what fields I can go if I have interest in science
Because I am confused on what to do with
yes, you’re going to use a college degree.
science is so broad
can you specify at all
I'm science I like physics like the mechanical and theories part
Stylophone is easy enough
avoiding debt is possible
get scholarships
Yes you should
A college degree is actually pretty helpful
And you get connections
Relations
Networks
All the same thing
But like once you’re done with college not only do you have a degree but also an easier way to get a job
If money is your fear there are many colleges
In state
Community colleges
These are much cheaper
And then if you’re really low income many colleges will lower their prices or even make it free
Hey do u guys think biotech has any scope in future or am i better off opting for ai courses instead?
What are the chances of this happening if you’re from a low middle class income
The chances are slim
as I too am from lower middle class
Take scholarship exam
Even if the exam isn't related
How many DE classes is too many
every major (for the most part) has scope in future
biotech right now is a pretty good major with all the advanements in technology recently
does anyone know of anyway you can start prepping for medical school/career as doctor in high school
contact local unis/hospitals for shadowing, research, internships, mentorships, etc.
thank you
the problem is i cant drive and there arent many hospitals (with volunteering options) where i live
and even if there are its like 17 or older
yeah for those opportunities, you'll just have to wait
in highschool, you could do HOSA, medical leaders club
shadow a doctor?
maybe start your own club?
if you're going into highschool this year (rising freshman), there's no need to worry about this yet. You'll be exposed to a ton of different things in highschool
Precalculus H
AP World History
Chemistry H
AP Seminar
AP Human Geo
AP Computer Sience A
Language Lv. 2
Humanities Class
Elective
Elective
But one person is doing Calc BC, and an other one is doing multivar with ap stats
honestly max rigor is better- on counselor reccs, there’s a spot that says “taken maximum rigor ordered” that’s a good indicator of academics
is it possible for you to qualify for you to get that schedule? or no
or do you not think you could handle it
85
By low income I mean less than 60k
guys i worried my schedule is way to easy so I’m take English H, AP Calc, Chem & Physics H , Naval Science 2 and German 3. I’m still deciding if i want to take AP world or not? I’m just scared caused I barely got an A- in pre ap world and Physics is the most dropped out class in my school. A lot of people have Ds in chem . The only option for me is Academic world and I worried i won’t cross of in course rigior. I could take AP bio but i think bio is entirely boring.
i heard
Id say go with ap world
It’s not as bad if you study
Not at all
Well not high school teachers
pre ap world i had an A- though that’s why i worried
I mean the lowest I’ve seen for high school teachers is 70k
And the highest I’ve seen is 180k
It’s better to have a A- in AP than A in honors
If u can get a A- go for it
AP world history is pretty easy compared to APUSH
should i take ap micro/macro in junior or senior year
like does it make any difference
for weighted yeah
but any grade that's not an A will bring down your unweighted gpa
Columbia university’s website said you should take it in junior year
If that helps
Is that in the US?
i’m being given the opportunity to take some of my classes at a college would colleges prefer that or ap classes? going to an assembly to learn more abt it but I wanted an opinion. tysm
In my school district
But it seems like that for almost all high schools in Illinois
can I list my schedule for next year and give me advice if its good?
Provide other context too
i am going into freshman year in a few months
Should i take pre calculus over the summer to secure a lot of APS for 10th, 11th and my 12th grade years?
Hi
I literally just said hi
Look I don’t want to be rude I’m just saying hi does that bother you
Then why people say bye here
People in this chat
Why is Illinois paying so well?
180k? Is that for the teacher director at each school? Or just a normal teacher
So I’m going to my senior year of high school and this are the classes I choose NJROTC 4 Emergency’ medical response Then English 4 FPFA American gov and Econ then Intro culinary arts are these good classes to take for senior year of high school
I’m going to my last year In high school
What global law
I doing American government is a require class to take in order to graduate
Zero
At my high school we have program you have to choose A program if you In NJROTC program you can also choose another program
Right now I doing NJROTC and FPFA we also have MBA AG NJROTC FPFA and Heritage regular and AP heritage
I have the opportunity to take AP Psych (the first AP class offered by the online school I attend) this year. How hard is it? I'm going into tenth grade, and this will be my first AP class. I have done dual enrollment if that helps.
AP psych is probably one of the easiest AP classes, you should go for it. I wish I could take it next year but I’m a freshman
Principals are considered teachers?
nah
I thought they were in their own category
Thanks!
conceptually it's not a hard class, just a lot of memorization, if youre not used to the pace of ap classes it could take getting used to but even then it's not bad
can you take ap classes that are relevant to your interest or do you also have to take ap classes for college to get the humanities or the other subjects out of the way?
taking ap classes that are relevant to your interests certianly would help like ap calc/physics/whatever if youre interested in stem but colleges generally like to see you take a bunch of ap classes to show you can handle high course rigor and to a certain degree show some well roundedness mostly for the high course rigor thing though
what do most people in hs that are sophomores, juniors, and seniors do? do they only take ap classes that are relevant to their interests or take ap courses that are relevant to their interests and a bunch of others too?
How in the hell are you doing pre calc before even in high school
wait that’s insane
im same age and I’m going into a2h
so he’s a whole year ahead
or she
or they
Bro I'm gonna do that my junior year
precal?
both, take the classes that interest you because they will give you an idea of your future field. and take the other classes even though they might not be something you love you get used to taking college level courses and free college credit (if u pass and your school pays for testing) is always beneficial
ap psych is absolutely amazing. my favorite class ever. definitely a lot of memorization, but most all of the content related to your life in one form or another which makes it super easy to learn imo. i would highly recommend it as a first time ap. plus it’s not as much writing as something like aphug or ap world and so on
a lot of ppl also say ap psych is one of the easiest aps
also i just took it my sophomore year. it was my 3d ap but i would have done just fine if it was my first
it’s not easy but it is easier than most other ap’s. a lot of people like the class though because the information is interesting and RELEVANT to our lives
Yeah, I don’t have the same opportunities to go into AP psych because my school removed all the AP classes. This is pretty much hear-say from my upperclassmen.
depends on how good you are at teaching yourself. personally i would never take a math online because that’s a type of content i need someone to be there that i can ask questions to. but if you are confident in your abilities go for it!
oh wow that sucks
My best advice if you decide to learn online is to enroll at a class at a local college. I am taking my second semester of Geometry credit at UC Berkeley, so I think I have a good base in order to move on to A2H.
It’s also ranked 4th in the country so the GPA has an invisible weight that’s a lot more than an AP
take a mix of both. ap is universal so colleges know it’s a hard rigor level.but community college classes aren’t standardized but they still look great!!
wait what??
College Preparatory School
oh fancy that’s fun
i go to a very country public school and i too spend about 4-6 hours on homework and studying + my 2 varsity sports and 14 other clubs im in lol + the time i have to put in to my leadership roles
sleep is not a priority lolll
go for it!
i went to a meeting and figured the program wasn’t for me. now they’re telling me to consider an IB diploma but i’m not exactly sure if that’s better or worse than just taking individual ap / ib courses
a lot of ppl in hs dont know what they want to do or have limited knowledge about their fields, generally people who are concerned about college and stuff just take all the hardest classes they can, seniors usually kind of just cruise
i don’t know much about ib, but i do know that generally the kids that do it start freshman year with that goal because it has a lot of requirements. ap courses and dual enrollment (if you have that option) are great though! also take what i say with a grain of salt because i’m not 100% certain
i’m going into junior year it would be jr and senior. it’s new at my school
ib really only starts junior year, freshman to sophomore youre not really doing much ib related
debating if i should do it or not. don’t know all that much nor if it’s worth it or if i’m better off taking a mix of ap classes and in classes
ib
ib diploma has a lot of requirements and stuff, as for worth it i guess in my own personal experience i found it not "worth it" but youll definitely be well prepared for college and any future endeavors if yout ake ib
from what i’ve seen it’s harder to get an a in than ap but it’s weighed the same so if anything it can very easily drag you down
though i’m intending to major in music so i don’t think they really care as much anyways
i guess thats a school by school thing, at my school i thought it was pretty similar difficilty but in ib you have to like ia's and research projects
Thanks for the advice! :)
Thank you! :D
i shouldn’t say more difficult but more coursework and stricter grading since the classes look at traditional subjects through a different lense
no problem! if you do end up taking it and need any help let me know if be happy to help!!
yah i think thats a really good way to put it
seen a lot of people say work that would’ve gotten an a in ap classes only got a b or whatever and i don’t know if i can afford to let my gpa suffer anymore i
you should talk to your schools counselour about it if youre thinking of doing it, they could be more in depth about what ib entails or you can just search up like the basic requirements for the diploma
this would be the first year they’re offering it if they get approved so i can’t really ask around so that’s my only bet i think
i definitely plan on taking a couple individual ib courses regardless though. mostly ib music
What is the IB Diploma? What benefits does it have
I know there’s a program that my last two years of high school I can take dual classes with the community college to graduate with an associates degree— is this the same or would these classes help achieve an IB diploma, I still don’t really understand what it is but it seems to look good
it’s different, ib has different requirements especially in the foreign language proficiency section so i’ve heard
also extracurricular requirements
yeah
So could I do it if my school doesn’t offer it?
I see there’s an online programme
yeah maybe, i’m not sure
Um sorry for the misunderstanding
I am not a whole year ahead
In fact I am taking algebra ii trig in my freshman year
In my freshman year is when I’m planning to do pre calculus over my 9th grade summer
Sorry for the inconvenience lol
I am not that smart to be so ahead just want to secure some APs
If ur wondering what math I am in currently in 8th grade I am doing geometry
not necessarily harder just more independent and from a much different perspective
Wow, where I’m from I had to be the first person to test out of Algebra I freshman year. I did. advanced geometry this year, but I don’t think I’m allowed to take pre calc for example to get ahead in the summer. Lucky you, but I hope you get to have some fun in the summer as well
Thank you I just graduated middle school
I am ready for high school
I live in the US which country do u live in, prob explains why you don’t have that option
Bc we’re in different countries of course
Maybe tho idk
Ok nvm
But I’ve learned that the public schools in the city get a lottttttt of classes we don’t and I go to a college prep school lol
They have like every ap class imaginable and stuff I’m jealous
Wait so you go to a normal school or don’t?
I go to a private school
I Imagine youre in a city or place with a large population
What’s private school like?
well everything is a lot nicer than the public schools around here but not academically better than what the public schools in the city could offer
It’s like almost everyone goes to college but there’s not that many options
Well I heard it has the best education from my parents so…
I heard u visit countries or something as part of the learning
A private school?
Yep
I’ve never had a field trip in high school nonetheless one out of the country
There’s only like 400 people that go to my school it’s not big
Me neither lol well not that much since the aftermath of the Covid lockdown lol
But rarely yes we do
Especially if u take an instrument
To other countries ?
Yes cst
Going into my senior year and plan to apply to some comp. schools. For math, should I take Calc 3 to show uniqueness to my AO and maxing math (took calc bc last year, got a B in it) or take AP stat which I feel more confident to ace. I plan to apply as a criminal justice major so 0% stem related.
AP stat
That’s an older teacher
Who’s been working for a while
I dont think so, unless I take Enlghish 2 and Spanish 2 over freshman summer next year
I cant skip any math, and dont think I can handle it since I would need to take Calc BC either Freshman or sophmore year if I do
do you think you can’t handle calc? it’s completely fine, it’s js that more rigorous is usually always better in terms of college admissions
Mabye, my friends said that it was easy
But I dont know if I can skip any math classes since Im in a program where all the math is special and different
Not easy, they just said that it wasnt bad
i wish i could take calc forced to take precslc my senior year
i want that mf college math credit so i don’t have to do it in college i hate math sm
do i rven have to take general courses as a music major
what
💀
wait guys is this okay for my math classes? the standard progression of classes goes alg 1, (h) geo, (h) alg 2, (h) precalc and im taking honors alg 2, honors precalc, calc bc and mvc
i took alg 1 last year and i enrolled n honors geo over the summer(right now)
its great
alr ty
what topics did you guys get in english 9 honors? just curious
read a lot of novels and books, the odyssey,, romeo and juliet, a long way gone, and some book about a beekeeper
Does duke university have any pre med or something in the medical field I am really interested in duke
would you say it was easy or no
depends on your teacher, but imo it was easy
do you read a lot of books?
pre med isnt a major, its just a general path that describes a set of requirements that can be fulfilled at any college, if youre thinking of something like a bsmd, duke doesnt offer that
yeah all we did was read and analyze novels and write essays and poems
Ok thank you 😊
alr, what books should i read over the summer
theres probably a lot of resources at duke though for pre meds as it's a top private university
no telling what you will read next year, you can try and look up your school district and see if there is any information. but it’s definitely a course that varies from school to school
cant say for sure though im neither a duke student or someone who knows a ton about the school
it also differs from state to state. and year to year
like i’m in florida and our standards change every year, so the books my class read differed slightly from this past years class
ooh im not talking about that. im asking what books (for fun) should i read this summer
ohh in that case
- anything by natasha preston
- 5 total strangers by natalie d richards
-in 5 years by rebecca serle
-g’day by m.w. adams - pandemic & black flowers white lies by ventresca
interesting, ty
yep! no problem!!
would you say glass castle is a good book
yes!!! i’m currently reading that to get a head start for my college english class next year actually!! pretty good so far! the author actually came and talked at my school this past year!
oooh thats nice. ty for giving me the books i should read over the summer
yeah ofc! no problem!
also, one more question, do you know any good websites that are good for me to practice my reading comprehension skills with questions?
ixl or khan academy
ty
yep np!
Ok thank you I also thinking about biological science
Hey guys how do I figure out how many people who do a degree from a certain college get jobs? Like basically the employability of a certain degree holder from a certain college
you could try and just look up “company stats” or maybe look on linkedin
Those who took AP Literature and/or AP government, how was the class, preparation, and exams like?
ive taken both, my experience may vary from what your school offers but generally both classes are pretty easy and a light workload although that probably depends on your teacher, the exams themselves were also pretty easy, lit is just a skills class imo so if you know youre good at timed writing and mcq then it shouldnt be any different then what youve gotten in the past, i thought the gov exam was also pretty easy this year, i took ap gov first semester and by the time i took the ap test i still found a lot of the content pretty easy to recall without studying
I see thank you
Hi
Hiii ppl
Is AP Calculus AB good enough for a prestigious university
Is international brain bee a good thing to put on your college applications?
depends on a lot of factors like ur major
if im planning to major in biology or chemistry (something premed)
yes
i cant confidently say itll make you highly competitive but ive certainly seen people make it with calc ab or less
thanks 🙂
between the choices of ap calculus ab and ap stats which would you recommend
@sharp wigeon 12/8 time signature tho, can you count to 12?
so looking at my schedule for next year:
ap world
spanish 3 honors
algebra 2 honors
chem
ap physics 1
english 10
health
gym
compared to my schedule this year, its much lighter but sorta balances out bc of 2 sciences = more lab periods, but im thinking abt adding ess (basically a personal project class, im taking it this year as well) or an elective.. but also i may benefit from an extra free or two to prepare for aps?
idk 12 is kinda a big number…..
what if i just count it as 4
health is half year
everything else is full
really? we have 8 periods here + rotating cycle schedule where classes drop once per cycle
looks great! i forgot to mention that my school requires gym + health.. otherwise i wouldn’t have them 💀
not possible for me until im a jr/sr
well its not very accessible like some other sports. tennis is a hard sport
lmao our tennis team is gonna be the same next year
we had like 5 seniors on it this year
got to hit balls well lol
simply hitting it wont cut it at a certian point.. gotta aim, weight transfer, spin etc
technical stuff rlly makes u overthink ur game
My classes next year are NJROTC 4 Intro culinary arts English 4 FPFA American government emergency medical responder next semester is NJROTC 4 English 4 FPFA economics emergency medical responder intro culinary arts
I only have 5 classes next year
I looking forward to Senior year of high school
U do?! 😭 im terrified of senior yr
Fr
I don’t want to apply
If I don’t apply
I’m not stressed
But if I don’t
I don’t get in
So if I just don’t get to senior year
I won’t have to do anything
Lol
But sadly senior year will come
then dont do your apps during senior year
do your apps during the summer
before senior year
Which ones have free applications
Hi
Yes I can
Fr
I'm a tennis player and I luv it but my location and shot selection isn't great
yeah it’s fun but so much of the game is also mental
I need Calc AB/BC material
where I can self study all of it in the summer
I haven't taken BC yet, but I did AB this year, and the Khan course was pretty great!
YouTube, khan, quizlet
I am going to do dual enrollment at a community College next year and I need help deciding on math courses. I have already taken Calculus 1 and 2 online, but not through an accredited university. Should I retake it, or do Multivariable and just take the AP BC test?
Would you say that if i study all of AB using Khan Academy in the summer, i can guarantee all "A's" in tests and quizzes for Ap Calc AB next school year?
@gloomy lotus @bold topaz
Hey guys, I am a dual enrollment student, and I am trying to determine wether or not I should do a biology or public health associates… any thoughts?
Yes fairly
Are we talking American Schools, if so then depends on where your at and your intelligence range, and a bit on maturity ig.
Actually that’s just generally all grades honestly
Well it’s impossible to guarantee an A, grade depends on the teacher as well and the assignment types, tests etc. just always study the material before tests and stuff
ok
Yeah for sure
AB isnt that bad if you did alright in precalc and algebra
Just review some trig, unit circle stuff
Is trigonometry algebra 2 or precalc
Its in both
Do you mean dual enrollment as in college and hs?
Mhm
Oh same then
I wanna do a specific degree
Unsure if it should be pub health or bio
But I’m leaning bio
I'm going for my Spanish associates degree rn
That’s pretty neat
Oh I see well do you know what you want to do career wise?
Mhm. I wanna go into Neglected Tropical Disease from a Vector Biology standpoint
Yea I'm doing that for now and then for my bachelors I'm thinking either cognitive science or neurobiology
No. I took some classes last semester
Hbu
Edit: A class
This semester I took 2
I have been doing it since I was in 10th
And I'm going to be in 12th now so for a while
Very cool. I’m in 10th now!
I took communications, this semester I took anthropology and health
I just finished my classes for spring I took art history of Mexico and then general human anatomy and physiology
Is physiology hard?
Oooo I was thinking about taking communications how was it?
It was literally so easy 💀💀
Literally all I did was put in minimal effort and the professor called me the leader of the class 😅
Well it is work but I think if you push through it will be okay but honestly I wanted to drop it multiple times
I enjoyed it though
That’s good
I heard it is easy lol
Easiest class ever
Btw are you taking any classes in the summer?
Not at the community college
what'
is Vector Biology(is this like physics + bio or smthing)
You ever remember hearing about the mosquito being the deadliest animal on earth?
ye
It’s basically about that
nice
Except every insect that transmits diseases
yk
this doesn't help right(like explaining what vector bio is)
is this about diseases
It’s basically the study of how insects transmit disease
fair enough
Cause it applies all of my interests
During the summer I'm taking governments and psychology
Me too, I’m more generally speaking
Psychology is REALLY easy
Oh btw what do you want to do career wise?
It’s kinda funny lol. Basically I was just looking around on AU’s course catalog, having watched an ant keeping video about mites, and it clicked. I was like “Yo… Parasitology is actually sick”.
This evolved with my humanities centered interests and general “intercultural equity” theme to create the ultimate major for me
I’m an antkeeper
uhhhh
that is kinda cool
as a kid I wanted to make ants fight each other
didn't work
ye
Ants fight eachother a lot
I liked paleontology
you gotta show me a video
Ooo so you take care of them?
I wanted to be a paleontologist as a baby boy
same
But then I realized it’s a HELLA boring job
Mhm I have a colony
uhh I found something cooler
Ant battle ROYALE
In my moms old clothes drawer
You gotta do that
No thats mean
Ant Battle Royal
Oooo they are so cute (╥﹏╥)
well
you know what would be cool
you can introduce a infectious disease to ants
and let evolution do its stuff
That sounds kinda cruel
I don't think that's legal 💀
To humans specifically
the only word I hear is illegal(this is a joke)
oh
that makes more sense
welp
don't kill them ants
they did nothing wrong
that kinda dope
Hella uncool
the combustion of ants
Yeaah he's not the best
