Um it’s like the pre SAT, kind of like a practice SAT. What grade are you in?
I do know if you take PSAT in junior your year for fall. If you score really high you can get a national merit scholarship
yep
Oh perfect, yeah I would take PSAT in junior year this fall
national merit scholarship is $2500 and depending on the school can be up to full/half off and it looks like a nice award on your app
isnt that the time when peoiple take the SAT?
when is that?
november i think?
sorry if im pestering
might be different for you guys
Yea it should be in November ish
No you aren’t !
honestly from what my friends told me the psat was more useful for them than the sat 😭
but this was for my app cycle where most schools are sat optional
any other standerized tests colleges like beside the ACT %SAT/PSAT
Yes technically you take SAT in junior year is when it’s most popular but I would take the PSAT this fall than it will help prepare you for SAT than you can take it in the spring next year.
stupid question but does the psat actually help you for the sat 😭
Is the ACT just an easier SAT?
I do not know much about other tests really
Possibly? Probably just helps you know what to expect
i ask cause one of my friends got a 1580 on the sat before he took the psat and he didnt get national merit 😭
You only get national merit from the psat?
yes
Dang
As a Freshmen, I chose these classes and rated them with Geometry dash difficulty faces
This is what I think of them right now
11 classes 😭
Yeah 💀
how long is your school day
7 Hours..
i wish my school offered more than 8 classes. so lucky
But Pe II and Health and Wellness II are half credit classes
AP US history is probably as difficult as chemistry is for me 💀
Depends on person to person, but so far from studying I think ACT is easier.
so uh anyone know anyone who can answer this?
act also has science
it takes money to take those classes right? so i think you should just take what's cheapest/most convenient for you
I would check out state first, see if they will offer any classes to you but I would see what colleges your school does dual enrollment with because it should be free if it’s through your school.
my school has a parternship with my cc
but uhh
dual enrollment works for all of them
but does dual enrollment work during summer?
Yes it should, but I would check with your school first but I’m pretty sure you should be able to do de in summer
Also haha speaking of SAT gohar is live taking SAT if you want to practice lollll
lol yeah im watching that as well
So would you say getting a 1600 on sat would look better than max on an ACT? Basically what I’m trying to say is: during college apps is the sat just better? Better as in more appealing to admissions
Yeah
I am not 100% sure, as I am a current junior going to senior year so my answer might not be perfect heads up: from what I see yes SAT looks great for those top schools even though colleges they accept both. They both look good no matter which one if you get perfect or high score though, I personally am taking both because you never know. But I see SAT more popular than ACT, if you are more science based though I would take ACT since they have the science section.
Does 6 AP classes seem feasible as a sophomore, I ended this year with a 96 and 98 in AP World and AP Human Geo respectively
depends on which ones
- AP Seminar
- AP Physics 1
- AP Bio
- AP Precal
- AP Comp Sci Principles
- AP US History
seems like ur good at history butalso I heard physics 1 ap can be difficult but other than that the ones you're taking seem okay.
US history for me was quite time consuming as we'd get a lot of reading each day.
Okay I will make sure to take that into consideration, thank you for the advice
I would estimate it should be the same as ap world, did you get readings for that?
Yeah quite a bit
My schools also just weird when it comes to apush, we learn it thematically and use a lot of different sources for readings
Sounds quite a bit different than what we do at my school, we stick to a textbook and operate only within the parameters that it outlines
But how is the AP test for Apush
Not terrible. also it's heavily curved so like a 75 percent can get you a 5,
55 mc in 55 min, 3 saq then a dbq and leq in 1hr 40
Same as world I think. I didn't take world, my school doesn't offer it and has ap caps
if you think you can do this then feel free to if this is a typical schedule for sophomores at your school
physics bio and apush are tough though so dont feel afraid to change around your schedule if it is going to seriously detriment your gpa
yeah I also think it really depends on the school. Like my school makes some honors classes (honors precalc, I'm looking at you...harder than bc calc smh) harder than the ap variant and also ap classes much harder than necessary. I'm taking 5 APs (technically 6 cause both physics C's) next year and am kinda scared too lol.
or if it detriments ur well-being because you still have 2 years of high school to get through after that
senior year is an illusion
but yah true it could be bad on your mental health but honestly that's kind of the game you have to play 😭
As long as its not so detrimental on your mental health that the decline in mental health affects your grades then its ok unfortunately
I feel like I walk that line
that what I am trying to do as well, balancing is super important
how many APs did you end up taking
My school has ap caps and other constraints so 0 in freshman and sophomore yr, 1 in junior, and will be 5 (6) in senior
So are you a junior rn
which one
us history
ah yea thats rough man
I'm glad the exam is over though
Yeah good thing, I studied 3 hours everyday for a month for just 2 test
that sucked to keep up with
Yeah esp I think ap history just is hard
I'm taking ap calc bc, stats, physics c (both), chinese lang/culture, and english lit so at least I'll like some of the ones I'm taking next yr
nice that should be fun
Calc ab, spanish lang, CS A, and Gov
ok
does anyone have detailed information about majors such as international relations?
Ok so I’d say 3 of your aps are considered easier ones
But you’re doing two Sciences
And USH
That’s is like many peoples junior year schedule so that’s cool you’re able to do that
I mean if you can handle it next year do it
I still think you don’t need both ap physics and ap bio
You could def take out one for an elective
Like a language
what about AP lang i heard from people around me that it's easy and it is just essay writing
It’s not that easy
Seminars easier
AP lang is easy when you memorize the essay formats and if you are able to build the stamina for writing in a short amount of time. Towards the end of the year, my teacher made us write 1 essay (there are 3 types of essays) every week so we could improve our writing skills. The essays and MCQ’s are not as hard as you think, all it requires from you is not giving up and paying attention in class :) every single essay topic written by College Board is written in a way where you can easily come up with things to write about. They never give you topics that are completely obsecure
The synthesis and rethorical analysis essays give you things you can read so you can develop your arguments. The only sort-of hard essay is the argument essay because they only give you a topic but nothing to read off of, so you have to come up with examples. But remember, they never give you a topic that is impossible to write about
If I want to apply for computer science degree, what classes would I need? Currently grade 9. No ap classes, no coding camps (I think)
what are the best ap classes for compsci future majors
classes related to coding
I had to transfer high schools recently, and I was taking mandarin in my old school but the only languages available in my new school are French and Spanish. The Princeton common data set recommends 4 years of a foreign language, but I'm not a big fan of Spanish, and I might not be able to get credit for my mandarin class anyways. Should I take Spanish through senior year, or another AP class?
Usually those 4 years are good if they are of the same language
So if you can't, yes that's fine
do another ap class
you could still pursure mandarin by self studying or finding classes outside of school
in chinese schools or your community college
ok thanks
Compsci calculus stats
I'm a freshman, I have only signed up for 1 AP course which is AP CSP for sophmore year. I wanted to focus more on my extracurriculars in freshman and sophmore year and I planned to fully focus on school only at 11th and 12th grade. Could I have done something different or perhaps this was a good idea.
Yo guys
What's better for my college career
Wrestling or Swimming
I'm a freshmen btw
Starting next year
Could you not spread it equally
So have a semi difficult coursework
And continue extracurriculars
Because doing some extracurriculars and then giving them up doesn’t look good
Hello guys, I want to ask Is CS and Civil Engineering a good major for college? I want to know if I should consider these two for college
not too sure about civil engineering and ngl this only really been a rumor ive been hearing but— apparently CS isnt as good as people might think? i heard that its gonna be one of those things that AI's gonna "replace"— like with writing, art, etc. ofc you can still get a job but its probably gonna be one of those riskier careers in the future yk? but then again its probably too early to tell
with civil engineering theres prestige ofc, but i heard its also one of the lower paying engineering specialties? BUT thats still a high five figures so i would advice that route (do some more research though dont trust me 💀)
Yeah honestly I’m planning on doing law adjacent to cs because while cs is taken over, the amount of patents is going to be absurd
This is what my father believes as well having been an electrical engineer for over 20 years. He told me cs is a shaky field to go into because layoffs are common and you are always replaceable
Man seriously my father is a Civil Engineer himself and he works in IT 💀 lmao but I really wanna do architecture , it has always been my passion but the thing is that it doesn't really pay great yk?? CS is a shaky field but i am highly interested in coding, removing bugs, etc whateves. My both parents say that if I wanna do CS, I always have my freedom of choice but to get Masters or PH.D in CS so that I get a job that even A.I has a chance of making a mistake. Anyways thanks so much for the reply appreciate it!!!
If you have passion and an interest in cs why not give it a shot you could always switch majors, I guess just be wary of what you’re getting into because cs is usually the most competitive major at most colleges
yeah..right thanks man
is it better to take ap courses or cambridge courses
What do you mean by cambridge?
like Cambridge A levels ?
the A level program takes 2 academic years to complete
and are quite hard tbh, but they can get u college credit for up to 1 year
I think they’re talking about AICE
Nope
i mean you should challenge yourself rigorously wherever you can and by extra curriculars the only it would pay off is if you were an Olympic level athlete, so yeah go for one or two more AP's next year, but if you are focused solely on an extracurricular I can't say anything about it.
Hi
Going into freshman year, could I sign up for AP classes at all, and are they worth it?
In high school or college
Hs
I recommend taking AP Human geography
Oh alright
I going to take AP physic 1 and AP Lit my senior year of high school if I could take AP classes
I doing JROTC 4 English 4 FPFA Emergency’ medical responder then gov and Econ then culinary arts for my senior year
my physics teacher was good but i feel like he didnt give us enough ap questions for practice
I’m actually in NJROTC 3
Right now
You have marine JROTC
We navy
Better stronger Safeter smarter can do oorah
Cadet seamen I have gotten promoted this year
But I have a ribbon and two service stars
You also currently in jrotc or barely joining
That isn’t bad
Bruh
Nothing
What college
Nice
I going to BYU
If not St Edward university
Which is in Austin Texas
English essay killing me
What rank are you
gold
Im currently a Sophomore in High School but was wondering how good this Senior Schedule is. In the future, (Junior yr) I will have taken Chemistry, AP Bio, AP Stats, AP Amer Gov, Math 4 and 5 Honors, and AP Lit and Comp. I probably wanna go to college but dont know where and I want to take as many ap’s without overwhelming myself. I also definitely wanna major in math,
Senior yr:
-APES
-Inorganic Chemistry
-AP Physics 1 or 2 idk which (my school doesn’t offer it directly, I would independently study with the help of the Physics teacher and take the ap test)
-Global Issues (Required)
-APUSH
-Pe 10-12 (Required)
-Calculus 1 (No AB and is required to take BC)
-AP Calc BC
-AP Macro
-AP Lang and Comp
Is this doable and realistic? Im pretty good at science and I’m extremely capable in math. I have a good social studies background and im decent at english
Oh and I have never taken an AP or Honors course
i had a pretty similar schedule ap wise senior year, a lot of these ap classes are easier and less time consuming likes apes, macro, lang (which should be lit because lang is usually for juniors). apush and physics should take more time and the amount of time you spend on calc bc kind of depends on you
Imagine I don’t go to college
its not that hard of a class but you have to spend time studying
Thats ok, I already know an ok amount of US History
But its totally doable right?
i think colleges will appreciate that youre staying dedicated to academics even into senior year but you can tone it down if you feel like it because it may be hard to stay committed into 2nd semester senior year
Yeah and I’m worried abt like college apps and essays but I think I’ll be fine
Dam 😂
oh yah that might be an issue too
maybe try to get some of your college stuff out of the way because rd deadlines will be around when youll probably take your finals
Okie
i did most of my college app stuff a week before and that was a horrible horrible week 😭
That sucks mad balls ngl
😂😂
Yea I always check to see who teaches what so I get a good teacher
you guys got more than one teacher who teaches ap's
😭
my ap chem class only had like 15 ppl so there wasnt really any need i guess
Hello
Ok ok guys I need a bit of help
I wanna take Arabic, Italian, and Indonesian right
But as it stands I wouldn’t be able to take all of them at once
I need to get my foreign language credits right
Cause I’m lacking
And I don’t know which one to choose
I want to earn Arabic for primarily practical reasons (though I’m still interested in the culture of course.) I want to pursue neglected tropical disease, with the Middle East as my region of focus.
I want to learn Italian as a way to reconnect with my Italian heritage.
I want to learn Indonesian, because one of my classes had an honors dossier. The country I chose was Indonesia, and having written 23 pages for a paper it, I have grown an attachment to it and want to learn the language.
It seems that we have a 3 way path. For you Indonesian would be the best for your wants it seems as you already have done much for it. You can always learn Italian with the side. As well as since you already have a somewhat decent relationship with it it may be the best. This may be the best way for you to gain credits.
My main concern then is finding good instruction in Indonesian. Most of what’s available is in apps, but with Arabic my Syrian friend recommended a tutor.
Although, my friend’s mom’s Indonesian friend reccomended an online program for it aswell
I think I may try and stick to Indonesian, considering NTD’s are also common there
how worth it is asl? considering taking it over spanish beecause i dont want to do spanish anymore
Spanish isn’t that hard
At my high school they don’t offer ASL
I want to take AP classes but I not sure if my counselor will let me
hey guys(and gals). Im trying to this summer take chemistry at the college level as so i can have access to ap chem my junior year, i have been hitting blockades from the AP chem teacher, AP bio, and all the science teachers. I absolutely can't do chem H next year then AP chem senior year, i am only allowd 8 classes every year and i have lots of plans for the senior year. so i need help/input on this
also can anyone tell me what does the collegeboard expect you to know before doing AP chem?
It really depends on the teacher, I took asl for my 2 years in high school. It was really fun and proactive, so it really depends if the teacher just hands you a book about it or actually does it hands on (as they should)
Quick question: I wanna study Biomedical Engineering but most of the unis I'm interested in don't offer it
So would it be almost the same to study Electrical Engineering with a concentration in something related to Biomedical Engineering?
Hey is there anyone who has taken Further Pure Maths in their A levels?
It really depends
If you're just genuinely interested in the knowledge, sure
But if it'll be something job related with biomedical engineering, it is a safer bet to find other unis
Well kinda both, but is medical engineering the same as biomedical? And I also see some unis have biotechnology or biosystems, are they the same?
Isn't medical engineering just another name for biomedical engineering? There should be no difference between them as far as I know
Those are the kinda things you can just google, but if it's a mix of both, I will suggest you to take the course where you'll learn the most
Not the best advice giver on this topic, as all the things that I know are experiences from others...
Alr then thx so much
np
I had the same problem this year
Anyways so yeah you don’t need a prerequisite
Collegeboard recommends it
But everybody I’ve spoken to says you don’t need previous Chem to understand ap Chem
At what course can i learn quantum mechanics?
P.s I'm not college yet, it's just pure curiosity
I’m debating on what summer classes I should take. I’m planning on taking one cc and one class my high school is offering. For cc I was debating on, (since I tried to take college algebra but they won’t let me because it would go over units and I don’t have math placement? Idk), Art appreciation, College success strategies, intro the business, public speaking, or Spanish 1. I’m not sure if these options all suck and I should not do them but I am trying to raise my gpa.
For my high school summer classes I am debating on- journalism and psychology
I’m not sure if these just seem lame since they are more electives since they aren’t math- but I want to increase my gpa. Any recommendations?
Btw I’m a junior going to senior year- so I’m cramming all the classes I can
i think all of those are good options. especially public speaking and spanish 1. Public speaking is a good skill that can be applied to any career (plus as a transfer credit for any college it’s a good elective). Spanish 1 could be used for any high school language requisites that you have; i know i used it for mine.
Is there any way you can take a psychology college class though? I know for my school we were able to.
oh also, what do you plan on doing in the future?
Business management
Yes there is general psychology, social psychology, development psychology
Can you only take one college class over the summer?
Because instead of a high school psychology class, you could just take a college level one. I don’t think it should be too diff? esp if you want to raise ur gpa
also with that, the intro to bus class is the best option for your summer class.
I think that’s fine
Unless you’re behind on math don’t worry about it
College algebra is like Alg II/precalc
I think
With trig
You will probably get credit for Ap lit
But probably not for ap enviro
Will I be in deep trouble if I take calc ab over this summer then take calc bc the year after that summer (my senior year). During my junior year, I’d be taking AP stats since there’s not enough room for calc bc in my school next year. By that I mean there’s already a waitlist (I’m 2nd rn)
College courses raise your gpa? Is it by the same amount as an AP?
Ok
That’s fine
Fr? Calc bc ain’t hard??
I thought it would be one of those: if you go off route, you’re kinda screwed
No
If you study for it
It’s fine
And if you have taken precalc
Especially if you have done Calc AB before Calc Bc
You’re good
I thought taking those 2 was a prerequisite for everybody
for me it is
Mk
I’m going to take college algebra in the fall, since I should be able then. But for summer should I take business mathematics then? Or intro the business.
If a course is 0 units, does that mean you do not get a grade?
No
For us it’s precalc—->calc
So for you, you’re able to skip straight to calc bc from pre calc?
It’s not a skip
It’s meant to be like that
Calc AB and Calc Bc are the same course
Calc Bc has two more chapters
So calc bc is just an extension of AB with some more stuff
Mk
my school district requres it sadly
they also go through topics faster
I mean if it’s because BC is supposed to be a review of AB (for the most part) then that makes sense
I'm considering pursuing a career in the medical field, possibly as a doctor or neurosurgeon (for money), but I'm unsure about which major to choose. Could you please provide some recommendations?
Your major for undergrad doesn’t matter that much as long as you think you can study well enough to prepare yourself for the mcat and take the prereqs that med schools require
bio, biochem, neuroscience, chem
like foosball said it doesn't matter much
you just have to take the required courses
Also taking an easier major lets you gpa farm and have more time for ec’s
Also unless you’re an academic weapon to a crazy extent I don’t think it’ll be fulfilling or worth it to pursue medicine only for the money
That’s for you to decide though you have a lot of time
Which major will let me gpa farm tho?
It’s really hard deciding tho, I don’t know what I want to be, I want to make money and I don’t care if it’s hard or easy, being a doctor seemed like a good choice to me, what would you recommend?
probs something like environmental science. Most gpa inflation is based off of the school, not the major. Some schools tend to inflate their gpa like crazy so going there will basically guarantee a high "gpa"
Also i'm just going to give my 2 cents: you shouldn't just be in something ONLY for the money. Pre-med is a tough af major and many of the classes you take in college are going to weed you out unless you genuinely have a bit of passion for it.
Going into something for just the money is not a bad idea - it's why so many people go into business/cs/med, but atleast for med you should like what you're going to do atleast a little bit, or else you're giving away 10+ years of your life for something you don't even enjoy
Thanks, I don’t enjoy or have any passion for premed, how’s marketing, I saw it pays off a lot on gohars vid, I already am taking business as one of my class/course thing for g9
yeah marketing/account/law/ business in general generally pays off pretty well after college
if you're interested in it, go for it
but if you're just a 9th grader (your profile says so), you don't really have to worry about this for atleast a little bit. I would just explore new topics and find out what you really like.
I had no idea what I wanted to do until I started to learn to code where I really enjoyed CS and that's what i plan to pursue
Humanities is a common one people do
Tysm
Also understand that medicine in the us is usually like a 12+ year commitment where you’ll have to also pay for undergrad/med school, there’s a lot of merit money/aid available thoigh
Wow
Does it pay off tho?
That depends on you, you could probably be making more money in other fields with substantially less effort. My dad believe a career in medicine provides stability like none other in that you’ll never be replaced
Depending on what you do in medicine you could be paying off loans for awhile though but that’s just more anecdotal stories that my parents have told me
Same
Thanks for the help
Np I’m not trying to discourage you but i think it’s good that you understand what you’re committing to, if you still are interested in pursuing medicine maybe try talking to a doctor or like your physician they’d probably be happy to tell you more and they definitely know more than I do
I’ll try, again, thanks for the help 🙂
np
Also, if you have like any empathy at all, medicine is not a good field for you
You’re going to be treating the scum of the earth people on less than 4 hours of sleep
And you’re going to see a lot of people die
me personally i don't have these problems because im going to try to go to trade school
i thought medicine trained you to be a pharmacist not actually working on patients idk though
Uh no?
Going to med school doesn’t technically mean you’re with patients
But to become a doctor you have to do residency which is basically just free labor at a hospital for 5 years
mb i don't know anything about this stuff im trying to be a barber
Btw thanks for the advice, and @austere tulip I had emailed my college counselors and they said I could take college algebra after this high school semester is over and I send over my transcripts to prove I did algebra 2 and qualify
Hi, if you don't mind can you tell me does Hight matter while joining college
no it doesn't, if you mean by height
thanks for the advice 🙂
hello other canadians
should i take grade 12 functions and calculus in the same year, or should i take them in different years?
Probably the same time is fine
Hello other Indians please tell me is it worth it to do PhD in botanics?
public catholic school?
yes
makes sense
because i saw you taking canadian history
it's required lol
lol i know i have to take it next year as well
i am going into grade 10 as well
nice
i'm in grade 8 rn but i'm planning ahead
oh alr
have you taken g11 functions?
or g10 math?
i'm interested to see what kind of content is in the courses so i can plan better
i am taking g10 math this summer
grade 10 math
same
think it's going to be hard?
i really do not know
apparently it's just g9 with more new content
i mean g9 is pretty easy
like if you pay attention in class and all and study
can confirm
hope quadratics aren't too bad
it it is then it might be easy
yeah i checked a few units for g10
lots of coordinates and graphing
i dont know i have a friend in g10 math he complains about quadratics all the time
formula and factoring doesn't seem to bad, completing the square seems unintuitive
i havent looked at the units so i cannot really conform
❌ You don't have a background to remove.
I heard calculus isnt really hard as long as you study and practice but if you’re talking about pre calc it was really easy for me
yeah the concept isn't too difficult it's just kind of unintuitive
If you really like it and are up for the rigor than go for it
Hi
hi
it's really up to you, it depends on your goal with it
are you in it for the money? is there something in particular you want to research? are you passionate about the topic?
I’m doing intro culinary arts Emergency medical responder then NJROTC 4 then English 4 FPFA then American gov and Econ for my senior year of high school
I want to go into medicene, so should I take AP Psych or Linear Algebra?
How’s ap music theory in middle school
bro what
AP music theory is very hard at a high school level
...... In my opinion you should do it because it will challenge you
Guys do you know if AP Seminar is hard, I want to improve my writing but hopefully it's not a terrible experience
Also, does anyone know of anyone chemistry tutors/math tutors - my math & science need work
What's an AP?
Arithmetic progression
?
Geometric mean is greater than ot or equal to the arithmetic mean
I thought it meant advanced practice, is this a joke or am I just stupid?
no its advanced placement lol
his joking
Where does that place you in?
What's gpa
grade point average
Wdym by that
umm how old are you
Old enough
your in 10th grade
Yes
i think your trolling right?
Engineering or medical
gpa is average of all grades
Engineering
Nice
Ok
Civil or computers(AI)
Idk
Whichever pays better
Both tbh
computer pays better and overall hotter
Na bro I'm too lazy to switch tabs
advanced placement
No way you’re in 10th and not know what an AP is. What are your plans after graduating from high school?
well i’m pretty sure AP are mainly a north american thing
you have to go out of your way in some other countries
Tbh it was kinda stereotypical of me to assume that. I thought everyone here wants to go out of their way to get into more rigorous courses. Just for a better chance at college yk
Application ig
Oh that ain't AP it's AI means artificial intelligence
Give JEE and hope for the best🤞
Ik
I was just asking
Oof
Really needed🫂
Hey I have a question that apparently google doesnt have an answer to so if anyone can help me out here: Is the Oxford book about electrical and mechanical engineering good for high school students aspiring to study those fields? And what books would you guys recommend for an aspiring biomedical/electrical/mechanical engineer?
I didn’t know what AP was in 10th either mainly because my private school doesn’t offer those just grade levelized classes
.
I'm not familiar with that specific book, but it seems like a vocabulary book. If you find it interesting, give it a read, but I wouldn't expect it to be useful to learn much about engineering.
Is it possible to learn Geometry with a tutor in just 2 months? How many hours would I need to study for it?
Is it worth doing it over the summer so I can be in Algebra II in 9th grade
(this is gonna cost me well over $700)
No not really
Not saying that you shouldn't do geometry over the summer - just don't get a tutor
700$ is outrageously expensive for learning something like geometry
you don't really even need a tutor, you can learn on online platforms like Khan Academy
but honestly, just take geo freshman year
you'll get to calc by junior/senior year
I did it without a tutor
depends on school tho
here they req ab before bc
(at my school)
so alg 2 was necessary in fresh year to take bc
i'd do it if you had the money
That’s still calc
It’s possible to learn
Id recommend a more affordable option
Like summer school
At a local high school
Or community college
Lol in our high school Geometry Honors is considered the most difficult class
Other than Calc III but like that’s calc III
should i go band or choir or none?
It depends on what you like to do. Which one do you like better? If you think it might be too much or you might not like it, pick something that you like instead.
ok ty!
Np
!findpartner Science
you're right, thanks 🙂
maybe i should focus on learning biology this summer
i absolutely suck at science
I'm doing geometry through BYU Utah over the summer online
it was like $300 with the textbook
there are much cheaper alternatives that may be more likeable out there
and no, I am not mormon
can u send a link
nah not really
Hi asking this question again: what beginner books would you guys recommend for an aspiring electrical engineer with only basic high school knowledge in math and physics?
Bruh
You mean a course?
Yeah but
I feel like I'd prefer a book since I also wanna start reading
No man I just want the knowledge
But
Ok nvm, but, are there any electrical engineering courses published on youtube?
Dude no, like any channels that teach the basics of electrical engineering?
Alr then, thx
Wait rally
Really*
They didn’t count your freshman year?
The thing is classes often cost a lot of money
Especially in community colleges outside of California
That’s how much it costs at a CC in my state
Hello, I am having a query. I am looking for a major in college, it should pay well and also it should be interesting (it shouldn't bum me out after 2 hours) I am interested in Architecture and also CS. Any thoughts?
I'm excited to hear people's opinions about this. Recently, my new school has just added two new subjects which are called 'Career and Enterprise' and 'Industry and Enterprise'. If all of you get to pick one of them, which one and why? I'm currently stuck between these two, so reading people's opinions could help me pick one of them 🫣
I recommend u google “beginner electrical engineering courses reddit”
ur gonna find a lot of options at a low cost
u don’t need to get a class for everything
can u explain the differences between them?
I'm not looking for a course my man, I just want a book I can read on my spare time, but thx anyways
Oh ok
You may also want to explore the course content and speak with your school counselor or teachers for more detailed information on each subject. Remember, both subjects offer valuable knowledge and skills, so either choice can contribute to your personal and professional growth.
Personally, I would pick the "Career and Enterprise" because "Career and Enterprise" typically focuses on developing essential skills and knowledge related to career exploration, personal development, and entrepreneurship. This subject aims to equip students with the tools necessary to navigate their future career paths successfully. It may cover areas such as goal setting, resume building, job searching, interview skills, financial literacy, and the foundations of entrepreneurship.
It is up to you tho, if you feel comfortable doing Industry and Enterprise, then do it.
Industry and Enterprise teaches you about different industries, understanding their inner works, create problem-solving skills and critical thinking
Really depends on what they are prioritizing at the moment
many of the skills that one can learn in career and enterprise can be sourced from family members and other trusted adults. However, it may be harder to come across the information taught in industry and enterprise, so that may be another point to consider.
i mean, would you advance a course level?
if so, i would honestly do it
obviously if you see a cheaper option then go for it
but it's worth it imo
higher math levels often unlock higher science levels as well
- access to AP's early
many of my friends did the same for ~1000 and they don't regret it in the slightest
Are you wanting textbooks? You can learn some fundamentals with basic math and physics, but calculus is a prerequisite to most of engineering.
Ok so what books would u recommend for that?
What math and physics classes have you taken?
I'm an IGCSE student
I take O Level Maths, O level physics, o level chemistry, and o level biology
Yeah but the thing is man, I'm not looking for classes, I understand its way easier, but I just want a book I can read on my spare time and also learn something that'll help me in my future career, just that
Ok would learning programming languages help a bit?
where ru from
Earth
Same lol
What topics are covered in those classes?
Math: Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, etc.
Physics: Mechanics, Thermal Physics, Waves, Electricity and Magnetism, Atomic Physics, and Space Physics
In Math there's also things like Functions, Vectors and differentiation which I think is related to calculus
Programming can be a useful tool, but incoming engineering majors generally aren't expected to know a language.
Do you know what imaginary numbers are?
Uhhh no not really
Here's a book that covers fundamentals but won't be too watered down. You might find some of the math challenging (there's some calculus), which is why having a solid foundation in math is more important at this point.

Alr then thanks 😊
Hey guys! As a grade 9, I'm wondering, for grade 11 what courses should I select. To quickly summarize my interest, I do very much want to become a doctor when I grow up. If your wondering, no, my mom did not force me to become a doctor. I'm interested in the field of epidemiology. Unlike many of my fellow colleagues and friends alike, I'm not disgusted by topics most are. Which, although could possibly play no role in my future, does only help my in my goal of one day becoming a doctor. I still do not know which field of doctor. Surgeon, of course, is a very prestigious role and at this moment, a surgeon is my goal to become. I'm doing well in mainly all areas of school getting an average grade above 92, and low of 86. Any suggestions in which courses I should be taking?
ap bio, anatomy, the sciences basically @coral token
That is what I predicted most would say. Thanks, I said this just to get a clearer view of what others believe the courses I should partake in are. Thank you!
im assuming ur taking bio rn as a freshman
i would take ap bio next year so all the stuff you learned in bio you can still remember
it'll be key to passing the class rather than going in without any info
Yes.
yeah i would take ap bio next year if possible
Good advice, thank you!
the only reason i was able to do well in ap bio was cause i remembered the stuff i learned from last year
but ap bio will give you the basics on the body that you'll need as a doctor
I'm planning on getting into HMS, so since High School is the or one of the most important roles of an individuals education, I was looking for some advice. You definitely secured my points!
Definitely taking ap bio! Thanks for the help!
anytime :)
So that I could do it entirely self paced
Should I do geometry in summer so I can skip it and go to algebra 2 for my sophomore year?
If I was only able to take 3 years of foreign language due to a school transfer, do colleges take that into account when considering language requirement? (I took mandarin at my old school but had to transfer during freshman year)
yes
Definitely
idk whether I should take AP Psych or AP Bio or forensics for my senior year, I want to study criminology so help plz
I would say take AP bio and then u can get rid of the college credit
And then can go deeper into forensics during college
Ap psych ig would work too
is it easy to self study? because alot of the AP Bio teachers at my school suck, most kids get 2s and 3s
It’s memorization mostly
So it depends
oh okay
I mean I already took honors biology so it’s not like I’m unfamiliar with it
Hello guys, is there any course that could increase my gpa and decrease my years at collage that i can do this summer?
'career and enterprise' has something to do more with profession or career, and 'industry and enterprise' is more to do with economic activity and business
Thank you so much! I will list your perspectives!!
I could ask them about it, for now, I don't think they'll like the idea if they ask why I'm asking something about this topic. They want me to focus in the STEM field.
It's preferable if you ask your school counselor or the college (you want to go to) about this. One tip that could help, is show them your grade or performance outcome to the college to prove that you did it
what aps should i take to get the humanities classes out of my way in college and what aps and honors classes are good for just for the foundation for electrical engineering?
I would reccommend calc and physics for engineering. If possible try to take some PLTW courses to start to get into the mindset of an engineer. If you are looking for more of an electrical engineer, I reccommend looking for a Digital Electronics PLTW class.
Is AP Environmental Science useful to complete one of foundation in completing aerospace engineering ....????
Both things are different ig
Environmental science and aerospace are different things
They are not linked with each other
What are you looking at doing in aerospace?
Bachelors
How important is it to have 2 years min of foreign lang in hs
I havent done any
And im moving on to junior year
i was found out close to the end of sophomore yr that colleges like to see foreign lang
I took spanish in middle school (8th grade)
is foreign language not a requirement for graduation at your school?
Made a pretty good score on my Spanish test and exceeded the requirement at my hs
yes but my counselors told me that my test scores were equivalent to 2 yes of foreign lang
Am i rlly doomed for admissions
im going to get rejected from everywhere 🙁😭😭🥲🥲
if your counselors said that it's fine, it probably won't affect you that much
maybe on additional info section of your application you can add that detail in
This is my schedule for junior yr
Ap precalc
Ap physic 1
Ap us hist
Ap lang
Ap seminar/ ap spanish lang/ ap chem (dont know which one i should choose since not many ppl sign up for chem, resulting in no class)
academic decathlon
Orchestra!!
or explain why you did not take a foreign language
mhm no problem!
This question made me stay up for the past 3 hrs
oo ur going to b a junior too??
mhm!
but my siblings recently went through the college app process, so i'm pretty familiar with it now
im first gen 😭😭
spanish 4 honors, ap cs a, ap physics 1, ap us history, ap lang, ap calc, asb
i have a younger brother who’s still in elementary and rlly want to lay s foundation for him
ooh nice!
Cam we swear here?
i dunno
Does ur school not offer electives??
well spanish, cs, and asb are my electives
my orchestra takes up 2 periods so it gives us 8 classes
oohh weird
Well electives in my school
Are fine arts
theatre, orch, band, art etc
oh yeah those are like one section of our electives
i think our school divides electives into 3 sections: arts, applicative skills, and something else i forgot...
What are applicative skills?
I was in a cooking class last year
It was filled with kids who didnt fill out their schedule sheet
buncha trouble makers
it was awful
I dreaded attending that class
i dropped it
:p
oh...
like the kids who get sent to juvie
The teacher hated our class
there were only like 5 ppl who cared abt cooking
Hey yo
But when you get your degree, what do you want to do with it.
Is a bachelor's of science in psychology worth it?
no
Join spacex
Or nasa
If you are wanting to try and help make more environmentally safe vehicles, I would reccommend doing AP Enviro. I would also try and find out if colleges require you to take enviromental science as well
I've only taken 2 years of Spanish, Spanish 1 and 2, and have received a perfect score of 100 in both classes. I am planning on self teaching the curriculum for Spanish 3 as I already have the resources to do so this summer. Since I would have completed Spanish 1 and 2 with a perfect mark and done a Spanish 3 course, do you guys think I would be ok for AP Spanish language and culture? Most people in my school who finish Spanish 3 using that curriculum go into AP.
What are the best high school classes if you want to become a police officer
Rop what
Oh
ROP law enforcement
You’ll probably be fine
alr bet thanks 🙏🏽
Yup
Hello
My courses for next year my senior year of high school is English 4 FPFA advanced NJROTC 4 intro culinary arts ROP emergency medical responder American government and Econ and that it I’m doing 5 classes next year
I’m doing summer school health
California
Yes
I’m from the Orange County side of California
Lol
I’m excited for Emergency medical responder class cause I’m going to have my favorite teacher again
No
Yes
Sorry I meant yes I’m going to also do EMT after school
To get My EMT permit
I taking it thru my high school program
FPFA
Yes
How did you know
That my current teacher for Fire Tech
You also a junior
We get free tuition for college
I took a dual enrollment class
I’m going to be a rising Senior
if i was looking for more of an electrical engineer, would you recommend pltw courses such as interent engineering or ap computer science over digital electronics?
counts as my technology credit for graduation, not science
What do you think of my schedule for sophomore year of high school?
why?
my teachers wouldn’t let me do ap or honors
My school doesn’t offer that
Idk they don’t think it’s right for me or sum.
I wanted to
they said I could probably do honors 11th grade and in 12th grade I could take whatever class I want
okay
what's that, if you don't mind sharing?
Individualized education program
it’s good for colleges tho
I heard that
the internet
who on the internet?
Idk
Should I go to another school or just wait til junior year so I could join honor classes?
?
like what?
you want me to say that in DM’s?
no
what why?
It’s in New Jersey
having an IEP can be viewed as a positive thing by college admissions officers, because it shows that you've overcome challenges and persevered despite obstacles. It can demonstrate that you have the skills and determination to succeed in college and beyond.
So like my state has a graduation requirement for fine arts credit should I take ap art history ( I don’t know anything about art)
Not really
They wont discriminate against you but also wont favor you
look up the curriculum and see if you like it
Wait why can’t you do it
Is it because of the IEP?
My case manager told me I start with essentials, then the next year move to college prep (if the teachers think I’m good for it) then the next year. honors. She said starts like this. But someone kid said he was in biology honors freshman year. He said he scored high on the placement test in middle school
Wait so what’s your condition
what do you mean
It says autism on myn but I don’t think I actually have
What’s 594
504*
I did
It’s a law protecting disabled people
What’s your condition
Oh ok.
That’s fine
I have a really smart friend who had autism and wasn’t allowed any honors classes either
Oh wow
I looked it up
Does not look fun to have
Yeah
It’s kinda sad considering you’re a musician
It said the affected ear has hearing loss
Lol yeah that’s who I was thinking of when I said deaf musician
would yall rather do ap computer science or honors digital electronics if you were interested in the basic area of electrical engineering?
Reasoning?
Learn electronic as side learning like in free time
gotchu, what about the material? what would teach me more about electrical and embedded engineering?
can I do both ap comp science and digital science if i have space in my schedule?
ok
you never took both, what did you take?
dude can you at least be helpful? you have been acting shit since i first asked a question in this channel
bro lmao look at your answers
what are you wanting to major in?
bro
should’ve said that at first
nvm
my bad also
i should've aksed someone who had experience
APCSA is 10x better if you're going into CSA
you can skip a semester of an intro-programming class
and APCSA will give you a jump-start if you want to get into competitive programming
since in that class, you'll learn about Data Structures, Algorithms, OOP, etc.
Yeah you can do both, but I would place a weight on APCSA
just trying to be helpful
no
Please don’t advertise. If you think this is helpful as an extracurricular you can put that in the extracurricular section
Yeah it’s also pretty introductory
So you don’t have to worry about going into something very difficult
Yeah
Lol I didn’t have space in my schedule
So I added zero hour PE
And now I’m doing Digital electronics and AP CS next year
So yeah I recommend both
They complement each other really well so just try to make space
If you had to choose however
Do digital electronics
Because that corresponds to electrical engineering more
can anyone explain to me what general elective credits are and why they'd concern me as a highschool student?
High school electives?
yes
What grade was he allowed to do them in?
lmfaooo
Hi
I didnt know where to go so i came here, when I finish secondary I want to go to Harvard. However I am in the Uk so I want to know if Harvard will cover travel fees to USA. All the websites I checked say there is a 50% chance
Although Oxbridge is the Harvard of UK. Oxbridge doesnt have the type of education im in for
50% chance of what?
Harvard's acceptance rate is not 50% and not even close -- if that's what your asking for
if your looking for covering travel fees, I believe it depends on your fin aid situation
not too familiar with international college applications so I may be wrong
50% chance of fin aid they said
Hi
Uhhhh no
Maybe 50% of their international students have FA, but that doesn’t mean that you have a 50% change of getting it
Is it worth it to take college algebra?
I am taking precalculus and ap stats next year at my hs
calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations at cc (dual credit)
but i also want to take college algebra (dual credit) just because of the gpa boost lol
Me neither that's why I go over the full cirriculum wayy before the class
im only gonna reach ap calc ab or bc
i'm doing calc ab in senior year
but do to dual enrollment i can go all the way up to diffrential equations by 10th grade if I really wanted to
yes
if i had started dual enrollment in 9th or even 8th grade i could've been in diffrential equations this spring
but i was dumb so
o-
you can start it this early?
in my school district, yes
i really should've started taking the classes in 9th grade
i could be half way through an AA degree
aw people are probably smart at your school
i'm so dumb
not at all
99% are dumb
they just don't take advantage of good opportunities
ugh
i know right
but then they look down on you
anyways in my school you can only take it in your sophomore year online
kinda sucks i really would loved to take it this year but whatever
what classes do you plan to take?
our school is wayy too smart
💀
well most
oh yeah what classes r yall enrolling in
i wanna compare
buissness
ap english lang
my school names the courses weird
yea
im in US and I don't have that bro
personal finance class
graduation requirement
11th grader for me
i want to see
AP Lit
AP Envir Sci
AP Bio
AP Gov (semester class)
Comp Sci 3 Honors
Project Base Honors
AP Calc BC
AP Stats
wooo
pretty hard ngl
me too
omg we have similar senior year schedues
i'm taking ap lit & envion sci
i took ap gov in 9th grade though
for my school district
ap gov /econ is a 12th grade class
I was in these this year
AP Chem
AP US History
AP Comp Sci A
AP Comp Sci Princples
Pre calc Honors
AP Psych / AP MacroEcon
Earth and Space Honors
dangggg
i took ap csp this year too!
I got the option to take econ in junior year
god damn
easiest class ever
💪
i haven't looked yet since im doing it in my junior year so i dont have to take it online
competition?
My highest is 2nd in the district we are really competitive
we r one of the top tech schools (supposedly)
we have the cambridge program
IB program
and a tech program
and we r pretty known
but like our school is old so like the environment is like very mid
well im gonna go see ya all
byebye 👋
hey, does anyone know how to convert between canadian hs math courses (e.g. MTH1W, MPM2D) to american courses (e.g. Algebra I, Pre-Calculus)
nope
oof
what should i take
aerospace mainly
im just trying to get credits mainly tho
ooh nice
if it's just for credits, i heard ap psych is pretty easy
doesn't require too much background knowledge
thing is final exam
just study for it like you would any other
us or international?
us history is apparently easier
go for whatever you're interested in tho
no point in studying an elective for something you don't care about
^^
whats the difference between honors and ap
ap is harder
forgot about the differences
ap is college credits
hm
ap is harder fs
tbh at my school at least, the only difference between honors & standard is the gpa difference and honors is more fast paced
and looks better
that's about it
alr i gtg now so uh yeah, hope you find your answer lol
imma ask a staff if i could get into some ap classes
i was planning on taking 3
but
people said its not a good idea
Senior Year Classes
CS is Community Service
Everything besides Eng and CS is DC
is dual enrollment hard?
i heard apush is harder 💀 💀 💀
Apush is history?.
Usa also own history?.
us is united states 💀
Yeah
usa has alot of history
that's part of the ap course as well
but after 1800 usa is democratic country
apush is essentially from native americans, to colonization, to the civil war, to the world wars, to present stuff in the us history
Study the cultural, economic, political, and social developments that have shaped the United States from c. 1491 to the present.
What
don't listen to that, the mind is meant to pushed
is this a good 4 yr plan to get into ut dallas? i live in state and i am a freshman w 4.0 gpa (ranked 3rd) so far. how much do yall think i should focus on extracurriculars regarding the classes i am taking?
9aps btw
i tried to balance aps with on level classes because i really do not want to take a lot of aps
