#course-selection

so your school doesn't have IB
It's international baccalaureate and it's a pretty damn dope program
and will midterm and final exam grades be on your transcript too?
I'm going down it and I can flex some pretty impressive admissions stats cause of it even though I'm not gonna get admitted to those unis
Specifically those grades?
no
Only the overall grade in the class appears
that's a relief
i have a final foreign language exam at the end of the school year and it's only worth 5% of my final grade
You're damn lucky lol
Languages are not required
I need to get at least a C+ or better in math, English and science to get into college and from there its smooth sailing
Math= 56%+ or higher
English= 60%+ or higher
Science= 60%+ or higher
My foreign language exam is worth about 10% of my grade
This is false
Like the minimum grade is C
oh wow lol
Most colleges require at least 2 years of foreign language in high school
And they strongly recommend 3 years of foreign language
Not here they dont
Which country are you in?
If it's the U.S then I got bad news bears
British Columbia
Ah
so far my final grade in foreign language is a 97
The fake brits
Yeppers
Yeah, assuming Dude is in the U.S then he would need 2-3 years of a foreign language
it can be met in middle school too
In high school, you can drop out of French and Spanish after grade 8
And you would just get a extra elective
why do i feel like elementary school in your country is grades kindergarten to 8th grade
K-7 is elementary
8-12 is high
Hell here, they are not allowed to fail you unless you have been absent for the whole year for both grade 8 and grade 9
Crazy I know
This changes from school to school
In my school that is not true
If you took spanish I in middle school then spanish 2, you would still need spanish 3, AP Spanish, or IB Spanish next
Whatever the fuck your teacher considers a lab
If you want a more definite definition then take an AP science if you want
They actually list out a series of labs that your school is required to do some of
So in that case whatever they list out is a lab
in AP Bio we got 13 labs that your teacher can choose from
I did like 5 of them I believe
I got my course recommendations today [basically yesterday now] and it's interesting
What are they?
Algebra, normal biology, honors english and world history, fine art [i picked media art], german, study hall, pe, and science lab
Is it always best to choose courseās recommend by your counselor
She only recommended me to do german in 10th grade too
It's always best to choose whatever courses you feel are right for you
My counselor recommended me biology honors when I came here but my teacher realized that I was already well ahead of the curve for even the AP classes so I instead was put into AP Bio
I suck at bio
I didn't regret picking AP bio cause this class is genuinely fun and while I love scaring the shit out of people with scary looking images it's actually not that hard
I think my normal spanish class is harder than both APs I'm taking
My quiz/test average for bio is a 73 percent
Did you do mostly micro or macro biology?
Macro
That explains it
Micro biology is way different from macro biology
and it's honestly more fun
this shit is why we even exist
That's something called tRNA and that is one of the most important parts that dictates which genes are expressed
in macro biology you mostly focus on evolution, enviroments and their impacts, and the general impacts of humanity
In micro biology you focus on entirely different things
I think ill be doing micro and macro biology next year
You'll focus on how even the smallest changes can have massive consequences, the way energy moves between complex systems, and discover the question of why do these biological beings do the things they do?
Like there's no reason for a molecule to want to create a protein, it just does
If you struggle at macro biology but are still required to do biology, then maybe consider doing AP Bio instead
I'ts a very hard course for a first time AP class taker, but it's not impossible
And it's also a good way to dip your toes into the AP Sciences
As it's generally the easiest AP science that isn't considered a joke (APES and Pysch)
Are the quizzes and tests hard
Very
But if you read the books you won't be getting anything less than an 80%
Just reading the textbook and taking notes is often enough for a 90 in some tests
Though you'll often only get 80-85%s
It's funny that my homework and classwork average is a 100, but for tests and quizzes It's ugly
Yay, only need a C+ or above in math, English and science 12 to get into college!
And i dont get why i got recommended for honors world history when my test average is an 81
Most requirements for honors classes are getting Bs
and also tests don't matter that much lol
And also he's really strict with grading
At my school tests account for about 30% of your grade depending on your teacher
For AP World tests account for... next to nothing really
It's all a point system and there's no weighting for points
So the tests are often accounting for less than your scores on your homework
He gave me a 9.9/10 on a reading assignment because of one grammar mistake
Unless the teachers adds weighted like my foreign language, englsih teacher, and math teacher has
You'll be fine my man
Here's the thing: it's always easier to drop down a level tahn it is to drop up a level
For example, my foriegn teacher does 60 percent of your grade quizzes/tests and 40% homework and classworo
You don't want to regret taking a class that's too easy than regret taking a class that's too hard and then dropping down to a class that's easy
alright. The only subject im the most afraid for is art
Then figure out another humanities to take
It's a fine art requirement, i have to take an art class for me to graduate
I had the option to take between basically physical and online art
Nope
It's pretty stupid in my opinion
And if i want to practice art, i have to spend a bunch of money
But anyways, ty for helping me. I appreciate it
what ap should i take if i wanna be doctore
i know i should take ap bio and chem but what else
what would be better dropping a class that doesnt benefit me much to make room for PE or keep the class and get extra credits, bu have to take on a sport?
AP Stats and AP Lit are incredibly useful for every field
Outside of that take whatever APs interest you the most
ok noice
Im currently in 9th grade and taking french 1-2. Its pretty easy for me, however some people are in spanish 5-6, which will give them gpa boosts when they take honors spanish next year, when i am taking normal french 3-4. Should i focus on taking classes over the summer to get some credits done or should i focus on extra curriculars? Any advice would be appreciated
If the class doesn't have much use for you and you don't want to commit to a sport or don't have the time to, then it would probably be best to drop it for PE, as long as you won't fail the class you're dropping.
first off, wdym by extracirriculars?
HUH? 5-6?? For us 5 is AP. Anywyas, um I think you shouldn't worry about those spanish kids. First of all, does your school do valedictorian? Second, do you have many other APs and honors to take?
u could also make lannguage a pass or fail class if that's available
so that it doesn't count towards GPA
but i'd say do something better over the summer
like u said
extracurriculars
hi if youāve taken both ap physics and ap calc, do you think ill be alright if i took them in the same year? ive heard that they r both hard classes
i think that's doable
Both are intended to be taken with each other
That is if u mean ap calc and ap physics c
do you guys think taking ap physics mechanics and ap calc ab in 10th grade is a smart thing to do?
If you're good at math, you can go for it. AP physics C requires a bit of calc, but its really just differentiation/integrals. You can teach it to yourself/most likely your AP Physics teacher will teach it to you as well
It's doable fs
thanks
Hi Iām in 8th grade right now and Iāll be In 9th grade next year what Ap/Honor classes should I take ?
Hi Im in 10th grade rn. what should i opt for in 11th
some suggestions would help!!
which ones are offered?
do u wanna do more math or more english in college?
APHUG is always a good starter course and so is CSP if you're interested in STEM
I totally recommend AP Human, im finishing it off this year. (I think that each course just depends on the teacher, mine gave 20 page readings + notes on one day and then the test the day after. It showed me the rigor that comes with AP classes.)
The content itself I think can be interesting, I think I would have enjoyed the course more had he not made us read the extra fluff in the textbook and just gave us the the important stuff raw. But the general content I think is something that is a good introduction to AP classes for 9th graders
I recommend taking Ap world history!
Nah APHUG is always better to take Freshman year than World
HUG gives you a better intro to the AP Social Sciences as it's not too hard
Ik
but like as a freshman in world
and having friends in Hug
I've seen that hug can be very useless
Like it's not really a good intro to AP if there's world because it's just so easy that it's regular/honors level
World on the other hand
not the most difficult
but like it still gives u you more intro to the rigor
and stuff
It all depends on the teacher
that's true
Traumatized from Ap Hug because of the 20 page readings each night and then the quiz the next day
but world has more essay writing as well
Most AP courses are useless lol
Plus we're talking about a Freshman
in a normal school, that usually doesn't happe
yeah ik
We want a soft introduction to the AP workload is possible
Public magnet
but it's not as light as hug
Especially as they do not understand how AP Exams work which is the rael concern
Like you don't want to be bumbling around for AP WOrld cause that class actually has college creds on the line
APHUG doesn't
I think just taking ap human to get a good score is useful
and the thing is taking ap human can also be a waste year
Maximizing your potential in your school by taking AP classes
like you could have done world
and then continued with euro
and then finished off with requirements of US and Gov
again
very dependent on the school
Does this apply to private schools? Im transferring
but sometimes taking the really easy way out isn't that helpful
idk much about private schools
I mean at least in the US
public schools are so good
In the US?
that like u don't need private schools
but there are many of course
for specialization, more advanced curriculum, etc
But most AP Courses are still useless
And once again you don't have college creds on the line
Like if you bomb AP World then when you take gen ed you need to include world history there
But if you bomb APHUG there's no loss
No university as far a I know offers credits to APHUG
It's all opinion
So it's a practice basically
And getting that practice I feel is a good opportunity rather than just jumping in
as an intro to AP
but what if people want to do Euro?
etc
they also have to fit it in with gov
us
which are usually requirements
That's a good point, however gov is often taken as a 1 semester long course with some other required course
yeah for us it's personal finance
So if you need gov, you probably will be taking it alongside iwth health as health is 1 seemster long
Or personal finance
Which is still fine
Regardless
It's digital's choice whether or not they value what's basically a year of practice before really jumping into the AP Workload or if they consider the accelerated pace to be critical
Do you guys know how many Ap classes that your allowed to take ?
It changed school to school
should i take IB or AP
Oh ok
What are you looking for out of your education?
prepare for job/real world
Nothing else like socialization or general skill development?
In that case AP would be your best bet or the IB CP
If your school offers it
is FACS a good elective. if so, which topic would you recommend
what are the best courses for auto engineering grade 12
Automotive technology classes
already done
Engineering design classes(including mechanical)
ok
im in grade 10 rn
and i alredy did 11
electrical engineering
so just wanted to know
alr
course selection
uhh some junk food making course
physics
math
english university
uh
auto
and
i forgot
š
Ap?
?
are u in the US?
oh ok
no
it just means u have 2 citizenship
cool, was just curious
What classes should I take for freshman year? What APs?
can someone suggest any changes to classes i plan to tale fteshmen year: ap human geo, art fundementals, culinary arts 1, honors biology (not all classes are listed)
Those seem good
Sure
my school doesn't offer culinary arts or anything like that :c
What about extracurriculars
do you suggest taking all honors offered
And do u have a prospective major
Yes
im not sure about extracurricular yet
i plan to go to the medical field, preferred to become a optometrist. do you know any classes that is helpful for it?
freshmen to senior
oh man
oh, thats fine
For stem in general just try to get an internship in junior year
my career needs lots of math and sceince, simillar to yours, so any classes you suggest?
I think FIRST Robotics is good for all STEM fields
Optometry? Not really when compared to other stuff
my school doesnt offer interships similae to optometry
Yeah internships are for you to find in ur own
or medical fields honestly
I go to a liberal arts high school
With mid stem education
I still got an internship in aerospace engineering just from ECs and looking on my own
wow nice!
What do you do at the aerospace internship?
AP HUG or AP CSP
Those are the 2 APs that are really good at introducing you to the format of the AP Exam while the class itself not being that difficult
You also are not left with any college creds on the line
This is unlike AP World which is also another rec that people give where if you bomb that exam you kiss the credits you would've gotten there goodbye
if you take ap hug, will it be replaced for the core require socialstudies/history course or considered an elective
for freshmen
my school says both as elective and core class so im kinda confused
So my school doesnāt offer aps for freshmen but if I were able to convince them what should I take (no, they donāt offer csp or hug)
depends on what's offered
None then
Just focus on getting max honors curriculum first
Hi I had a question on whether I should take ap lang next year or not, my next year (junior) classes so far are: Chemistry honors, art 2 and 3 hnrs, ap compsci, ap psych, college history and another college class on sociology, and Math 4 hnrs.
AP Lang is one of the most useful courses you can take in high school
I always encourage people to take AP Lang cause it's just that damn useful
If you feel it's too hard, then you can feel free to drop AP CSA. If you're doing APCSP I would encourage you drop it in exchange for AP Lang and find a more difficult course cause AP CSP is a joke
I'm encouraging dropping AP CS mostly because it seems like you're more interested in the humanities
None
Just focus on what you like and that will evolve to interest
yeah iāve heard itās very useful so i might take ap comp off since I do like tech and stuff but i could take it senior year as well, so thank you!
alright, I'm going into freshman year. these are the class choices that I choose, anything else I should choose: 1
- honor english 9
- Honor alg 2 with trig
- honor physics
- Ap world history
- electives: stem class and band
alsooo
Only 5 classes?
can you guys explain all these abbreviations of ap classes?
I think?
Most school systems go for 6 though?
well, I have 2 elective classes
AP World/APW/APWH/AP Modern = AP World History: Modern (yes, there's an AP World History: Ancient but it's in development)
AP CSP = AP Computer Science Principals, a lame class
AP CSA = AP Computer Science A, the only Comp-sci related class that the AP offers. No CSP doesn't count
APUSH = AP U.S History
AP Euro = AP European History
AP Gov = Ap U.S Government
AP Macro/Micro/Econ = The 2 AP Economics courses, macro and micro. Some people take both of them in the same year and we just say those people are taking AP Econ
AP Calc AB/BC = AP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC. AB focuses on the first semester of college level calculus while BC does a whole year of calculus
AP Chem = AP Chemistry
AP Bio = AP Biology
AP Physics 1/2/C ED/C Mech = AP Physics. There are 4 courses: AP Physics 1, AP Physics 2, and AP Physics Electrodynamics and Magnetism as well as AP Physics C Classical Mechanics
woww
that's a lot
thank you!
any suggestions though?
for what classes I should take
cause it's still possible for me the change stuff
There's more
I just forgor š
Oh yeah I remember:
AP HUG = A joke of a class. It stands for AP Human Geography
APES = AP Environmental Sciences, also a joke of a class
@willow halo if you want some suggestions, if I called the class "a joke of a class" that's what you should probably take
Take one of them freshman year if they interest you
This will give you a soft introduction to the style of AP Exams which is really gonna be your crux
and at the very least most schools don't put any credits on the line for any of these classes except APES
Which even then, APES doesn't fulfil gen ed requiremens
ehhh? what does that mean?
gen ed?
is that like a wide spread term
soooo
General Education
Many colleges require every student to take certain courses, even if they don't pertain to what the student is doing
Credits are what gets awarded for taking an AP Class and scoring a certain amount on that exam
They denote the equivalent amount of time a professor would spend on lecturing you about that subject
So an example, for me my local community college gives us 4 credits if we take AP World and score a 3 or above on the exam
That means that we do not need to go to 4 lectures that are related to history
Most colleges require about 15 credits to be taken every semester before you graduate so you can see how that quickly stacks up
If you take 4 AP classes and they all fulfil your major and gen ed requirements, you may have enough credits (at my local CC) to skip your first semester
If you want to skip your second semester and immediately become a 2nd year students then you're gonna need 8 AP Classes
ummm
but how would you know they fit the requirements?
to skip a class I mean
what if you don't pass the test
or the college doesn't accept the credits?
Look at the college you want to go to and google "AP credit"
They will tell you right there how many credits and in which subject you will get
It changes from class to class
They will also tell you the minimum requirements to get those credits
So in my local CC I need to get a 3 or above (a passing score) for my AP Exams for credit
But if i wanted to go to Stanford I would need a 5 in all my exams (the highest possible score) to get any credit
Just dw about the credits, you're fine for now
Your goal should for now be to get your first 4 on an AP Exam
Getting a 5 is fucking insane but a 4 is a lot more reasonable lol
especially for a freshman
this is a lot
I'm talking ap world, so should I keep it to one for now?
Yes
I regret picking both AP World and AP Bio for my first dip into the AP Exam space
Junior Year High School Layout:
Social Science/History:
- AP American Government
Math:
- Math 4 Honors
- Math 5 Honors
- AP Statistics
Science:
- AP Environmental Science
- AP Biology
- Chemistry
Other:
- Lifeās Issues
Senior Year High School Layout:
Social Science/History:
- AP US History
- AP Macroeconomics
- Global Issues
Math:
- Calculus 1
- AP Calculus BC
English: (No Apās here cause I hate english and suck at it)
- English 3
- Classical Mythology
- Grammar & Writing Skills
Science:
- Inorganic Chemistry
- AP Chemistry
Physical Education:
- PE 12
Is this good
you took both in the first year? how hard was it?
do you think I should study world history during the sumer
I wish I could help, but honestly I don't know what I'm doing rn. but what are 4 honors, like what does the numbers mean?
The math class, it represents the difficulty so math 4 and 5 at my school is pre calculus
And trig i think
Sure is (:
Oh no my first year I took no AP Classes, my old school didn't let me
My new school was supposed to only let me take AP World but I let the AP Bio teacher think I was beyond the scope of even AP Bio so he reccomended me for AP Bio instead
ohh, wow!
was it fun?
@willow halo congratulations you going in freshman year!!..
I'd rather go to kindergarten....
but thank you!
It was dope
Generally AP Teachers are the ones that actually enjoy their jobs
So you're usually going to only have good teachers in the AP Pool
š
sooo all my other teachers are going to be mean
Usually yeah
Especially if they're non-honors courses
FUCK MS. VIRAMONTES I HATE YOUR SPANISH CLASS
š my current spanish teacher is no better
^
@topaz cloud help her
yes it is very good there is a lot of vigour in here
there are some tough subjects they are really good
Hi im sharita from Bangladesh
Great
U?
Cal state long beach
Where is it?
Google it
Great
?
Your high school student ig
He asking advice form college grades only
In the U.S you can take college alongside high school
It's called Dual Enrollment
So for him, he goes to High School, Community College, and California State University: Long Beach
So duck also gave univ sem exam alongside with High school exams
Wow this is amazing
A lot of students do this actually
It's called Dual Enrollment
Or for Duck he also does Special Admit
There's some minor differences between the 2 but they're practically the same
I believe in your case you might actually be able to do the same
A lot of the community colleges here will offer their classes online so you can take college classes from the U.S while you're in India
Not rlly
Whatās impressive is winning national and international awards
I only got a state award
You got an award when competing against a state of 39 million people
That is very impressive you fucking dumbass
NOt everyone is an anime protagonist š
Not to me
Too bad I didn't ask what you think
That shit's impressive and you gotta own that shit lol
What about the other billion people in the US?
There are not 1 billion people in the U.S
There are 332 million
You are one person in a group of 50 amongst a group of 332 million
You are a 1 in 6.6 million person
On average
but in reality a 1 in 39 million person
I would need to look through 39 million people just to find someone with the same talent as you
You all have extra previlages but you believe usa education system is bad
Privileges such as what
Dual enrollment
Ok? U can do it too
You can too lol
Our DE is online
Here let me reccomend you a DE system rq
Just reach out to ur cc or university
He lives in India, DE isn't a thing there
This whole district offers a lot of online classes you can take as a high school student that count as college courses
But cant u do sa? Or something
I'm not certain but they might transfer to IIT
Nope
Not many colleges/unis in the U.S offer SA to begin with
Much less unis outside the U.S
@tough sun https://www.moorparkcollege.edu/departments/student-services/dual-enrollment this is the school I'm dual enrolling in, feel free to read through the requirements and see if you can get everything needed
Moorpark College Dual Enrollment Accelerate your college education while still in high school! Getting college credits while still in high school (or middle school!) is a great way to start your college education early. Dual Enrollment not only earns you college credits, but it also puts you on the fast track in your college career. Navigating t...
To be admitted to Moorpark College the only requirement is that you are either a current high school student or you've finished high school
Even if you're an international student
And this gets applied in ur hs transcript?
Enrollment in this univ can be a good source of ecs
Its not an ecs
Its a class
But my csulb is a ecs cuz itās outside of regular school
And im not obligated to do anything
If your school allows it
If not then it just appears on a college transcript
No, it's just more classes you can take that appear on a seperate transcript
So now you have 2 GPAs
Fun fact: Colleges typically value the GPA at the DE class more tahn your high school GPA
So if you get straight As it looks really good
And, if you want to put your mind to it, it is possible for you to get something called an "associates degree" during high school
Now for me I don't think I can actually go down this pathway due to me starting DE too late
But if you're a rising 10th grader or a 9th grader it's possible
Same
If i started last yr, i could have gotten it
I mean it is possible actually for me
Seeing how I'm doing AP and IB
So I get my first 2 semesters of maths cleared out as well as all of my gen ed
So if I wanted to I could get my other 3 semesters of maths done too
I think that you guys go to univ offline ( but this are offline)
I am 12th grader currently
Offline?
Its kinda too late to do anything tbh
Sorry I mean online
Nah it's possible
- I believe DE in Moorpark is free it's only like 46 dollars
Is there a limit?
Per class or what
U alr applied to uni, right?
No my 11th exams are just over and I am promoted to 12th
What abt you
Alright
Isnt that the point of online stuff?
no I was just checking
I mean i'm gonna check with my community college if I can do online
if not then i'm going to try moorpark
For up to 11.5 semester credits
I have no fucking clue
Iām about to find out
Itās usually 4 weeks per course though and itās all asynchronous
Oh really
only 4 weeks
that's goodd
And do u have to do the recommendation from school official
Cuz if I ask my school officials
they'll probably push me to go to do it at our own CC
and not at some other one
No
You just have to get an MOU form signed and follow the steps
oh ok
@ripe geyser the site(Moorpark one) says that I'll need an F1 visa or smth to enroll
Thats america
Ik but online enrollment will also require it then it's like too much
Moorpark is college or school
Same thing lmao
It does?
There should be another VCCCD college that's entirely digital let me find it
Alright well I can't find it
Are you close to the U.S embassy in Delhi?
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/study/student-visa.html cause this will be how you get that F1 Visa
Granted you're now spending 160 USD (13.1k ā¹) so that's not as economical and may not be worth it
i enjoy my MUN class but itās not related to what im planning to major in. do u guys think itās worth it to replace it with an AP class instead?
You don't need to take classes in what you plan on majoring in
I'm planning on majoring in mathematics but I'm also taking classes in the arts and shit
If you enjoy MUN, continue on doing it
It builds character, you don't want to come off as a robot
MUN is kind of debate?.
yeah it's a type of debate related to international politics
Hmm in my middle school it's was organised
that makes sense ty!
does anyone suggest taking ap hug, ap stats, ap macro, or ap psychology
AP stats is the most useful AP course alongside AP Lang. I strongly encourage you take it
okay, thanks!
Should I take English 1 over the summer? My school does this thing where people who take english 1 prior to highschool get to take AP sem in 10th.
that seems useful
But they dont offer AP research so I can't get a capstone diploma
But I got into a STEM program that gives some research diploma
maybe focus on that then
Ok
im not sure how useful ap sem is
but if you're guaranteed a diploma for stem if thats a field your interested in it seems the most reasonable
Ok thx
thank you i will search for them
anybody know how I can take calc ac and bc over summer
But don't overdo the math
im trash at eng and history
isnt well rounded bad
So
If I have a 94 average in geometry
But a 78 average in algebra 1
Should I take algebra 2 honors
Not worth it
If you do not get the Capstone it is not worth doing seminar
Go down the normal route of doing English 10 and then doing English Lang and Lit
My grades are 75, 85, 71, 70 what course should I take
Idek what the hell those grades are in
Ela social math science
Afaik you could be taking fucking lie algebra with those grades
whihc fucking social studies, math, or science course?
which ela course??
And where do the grades go?
I'm still in 10 grade butim planning to decide this year I'm from Alberta and I got dash 1 social and science 10 math and science
Idfk the alberta school system š
Lmao
that's a you problem now, I don't know that shit
whats ur gpa
My GPA rn
Is a 3.2
I added up the perctanges and divided by 4
71, 70, 85, 75
Oof
Is that bad
Duck is aiming for the top U.S Unis so his views are a bit skewed
Where do you aim to go?
If it's a local university then that's actually really good to get so far, afaik the Alberta system is way more difficult than the U.S system
To me, very bad
to me, yes
What do u wanna do for college
Geopsychis in Alberta that only needs 70s
Local Calgary
I feel so dumb right now k thought that was good
If the uni is outside of the bottom 30% of universities, it's good
So 70% of universities are good
I have a question
What's poppin?
If i take 2 early outs do colleges find that Ok?
And which college are we talking about?
and 8th Period
Oh free periods
Uhh just Ucās and Csuās
If it's not listed on your transcript then no college will even know about their existence
Most high schools don't list those
Canada courses ends with the grade level
Ik
I just don't know what science 10 pertains to
Biological sciences? Physical ones? Chemical ones?
I don't really know
Iām taking 4 Apush classes next year
Huh that's strange
which is wild
but idk if thatās enough for my competitive major
You can't take 4 of the same class
sorry oops i meant ap
i have this wierd habit of calling all ap classes apush
I suspect you're traumatized by APUSH
Bruh moment
Also iām taking it next year
Regardless there's no such thing as an amount of APs being required for a major
Most colleges genuinely do not care for APs that much
And by most I mean the T50s
Unis below there eat that shit up
grade 11 matter a lot more in Canada
so do better next year
Also: ther'es like 30 fucking universities in the CSU/UC system
Which specific ones?
The less prestigious ones like UC davis UC sandiego and CSU sacramento
not like berkley or ucla
I could get into my program with nt gradesso that's good
UCSD is as prestigious as UCLA and UC Berkeley
Oh
Exotica what are you doing in college
Haven't started college yet, I'll start over the summer
well um
I'm beginning to work towards an associates in Math
And then using that to transfer to CSU or TAG
Maybe UCLA if I manage to fulfil the honors requirements somehow
I'm 15 and don't have a console should I buy one at yh end of uni?
I can't my mom
You don't wind up like me who got their playstation stolen by a russian dude named Dimitri
grade 11 you can take a grade 12 social studies which I would recommend. Ela is just mandatory. Math take precalc if you can, science just do chem and your favorite other one or just any science ig. Really depends on what you wanna do im the future
She says get one at end of school
Ya
My current dream college is Uc san diego or uc davis but i havenāt done much to get accepted into them other than try to take as many honors as possible
Manifesting that all of us get good careers in the future
Ur dream colleges are ones with horrible overcrowding issues?
You can always start whenever you want
Wait i just found out Sac State and CSU sacramento are the same school
They are?
huh
itās a good safety
More you know
Always beware of this shit
Advice for grade 11 and 12
If it says 94% or something like that it doesn't mean that they accept 94% of all students
Wdym
In the case of CSU Sacramento that is actually what it means
get into thhe grindset
Oh
But in my dream uni, it's got an 80% acceptance rate
ur getting free stuff?
But I wouldn't put it as a safety cause the average GPA there is a 3.8
grade 11 science introduces a lot of things grade 8-10 doesn't teach
Is anyone else's dream college their safety
That means that the only people that apply there are hyper competetive
i need to do more compeititons
i might get it up in chemistry
You have the opportunity to get more shit than this person cause you got a job
Man I fucking miss working at a maccas
you should be able to buy a console if you work a summer job
Okay
I gotta go back to a 9-5 once school ends again
yeah that usually worries me bc
keep in mind, im in debt cuz of my flute
iām not the most smartest at my school
yes
Nah, CSU Sac is actually pretty normal
That's better than school tho
Maybe don't buy like 3k gold stuff for ur flute cuh
Working a 9-5
i see my peers in my Honors classes and to me their geniuses and all get Aās
It's not
but then I have a C
We work minimum wage jobs over the summer lol
welll, there arnt many options
Luckily in cali our minimum wage is 15 USD an hour but still
that's about 600 bucks a week
Same in Alberta
I heavily prefer working over school
Intelligence isn't about grades tho
this is not a lot of money lol
Just do extracurriculars and career stuff
Can i get 3 Certificates of biliteracy?
It's one of the strongest aspects of my application at least
I got a job that's pays 150 a day for landscape
truly a California moment
Pretty good
I (will) know 3 languages other than english
At least for me I can actually save up that 600 bucks a week I earn though and put it towards a college counselor or some shit lol
but the end of the school year
And I am work in August
Why would u buy a college counselor š
I need to work for 17 weeks to afford crimson, assuming I don't get my income taxed
My college counselor is... a unique one
My school's counselor is goated
Granted I'm actually not gonna get a college counselor
I'm more likely to spend that money on my business cause this shit hard
Granted, getting like 7k is not a whole lot for a company
Buuuut it's enough to at least start getting a website and actually being able to prepare a slide deck for angel investing
Which is all I can really ask for
I say 7k but I'm not taking into account other expenses and shit. Accounting for that bullshit I got like 3-5k over the summer
My parents want to pay for uni but I want to pay myself what should I do ?
Ur rejecting ur parents offer to do so?
Why would u do that lmao
Scholarship mb?
you pay your parents back
also how do you have that much money
I have 24k saved and my job earns me 4 grand a summer and that's 12 k 36k and one tear at u of c is 9800 ?
Canada moment
Accident payout
Canadians
Uh I think you'll be fine with that much
Was in a crash
Oh
Oh
That money went to you?
Doesn't that money go to the legal guardian of the victim if they're under 18?
I was a passenger
Is this dude an emancipated minor?
Oh that's weird I've never heard of that before
Either way 24k is a lot of money
I believe most canadian unis cost like 8k a year or something before financial aid
U of c is 9800 one year
That money is enough by itself, but you'll most likely get a job as well to pay for other expenses
try talk to your parents first
Ai
They want to pay
But we're living ai they already paid for my sister
cant u take out a loan?
I mean just accept their payment
Ai
Not everyone is financially stupid enough to take out loans as a teenager š
How you guys going to pay
ALso that should never be a suggestion unless there's no other option
i never took out a loan
Are your parents also paying
im planning to get a scholarship
loan
My school has a thing called dual enrollment where you spend 46 bucks to take a full semester of college courses for cheap
So I get my first year for 46 bucks total and then I spend like 4k on my second year for my associates
Who has school tomorrow?
I heard there is such things as scholarships for being certain nationalities and i think nowadays my nationality might have scholarship
Hopefully by then I would've secured enough scholarships
šÆšÆš¤š¾
What nationality are you?
Ukrainian
i meant ethnicity
Nope that's not how it works
I cant have a Ukrainian Citizenship unless i revoke my American one
š
Nationality means that you are a sovereign citizen of that country
Lol
So you do not get any scholarships sadly
You are an immigrant though so you can apply for those scholarships
Assuming you lived in ukraine at some point
But theres ethnicity scholarships right
If you didn't then you don't get those scholarships either
Only for black and hispanics
My teacher once told us that his son got a scholarship for being Jewish
That's more of a religious scholarship
Not an ethnic one
If you believe in a certain religion you can get unique scholarships
So muslims get scholarships, christians get scholarships, buddhists get some too, etc.
This possible for Indian?.
Am i first generation College if my mom went to a technical School
in a different country
If you live in India and are an Indian citizen, yes
India has many scholarships like that
I think actually the most of any nation
Sadly Lebanon has no such scholarships
Granted it doesn't matter, I never accepted my Lebanese citizenship to begin with
I'm not risking getting drafted in no war any time soon
But I am atheist
India =/= Hinduism or whatever religion is common there
It's a seperate entity
You are an Indian and thus qualify for Indian scholarships
That's how it works
You are not a buddhist so you do not qualify for buddhist scholarships
Or a hindu
Wait is there scholarships for being a native speaker of a language
Or any other nation
I believe there's some out there but I'm not certain
Man I wish I could delete things š
Bro got a little feisty after figuring out he can save money ššš

only world cup
Badminton, tennis
Nfl
Personally I like to play sports games on PS4 rather than playing outside
Just kick on wall š
^^^^
Ball as in basketball
I can't fucking shoot for shit š
fr
should i self-study ap csp and replace it with apush?
here is my schedule for 12th grade:
- ap lang
- ap calc bc
- ap stat
- ap csp
- public speaking & debate
- sports, recreation & leadership
- mandarin 3
p/s: my school only allows for a max of 4 aps
i have to choose b/w economics and ad maths
what should i take?
Math if you want to pursue core career like engineering
k lol

Bruh...I hate it when schools ban u from trying to make your education more advanced. Anyways, so yeah I'd recommend not doing CSP because it's a pretty joke class, especially if u have the coding language. Go with Apush and yeah CSPshould be easy to self study. Everything else is fine
never self study
Drop CSP cause CSP is a joke but do not self study for it
There is no benefit to self studying as many AOs have already said that all it causes them to do is ask "what would this person done if he had spent his time better"
Hey so I am a freshman right now and I was wondering whether to take physics and then AP physics next year or to take chem instead
I am more interested in physics
But Iāve heard people say that chem is a good idea because it is a pre req for many other science APs except physics
I think you should go for ap phy and try out normal chem lessons and if you like them.. well you can always upgrade to an ap.
(just my opinion lol)
cant u just take a test to pass the prereq class? or do the equivalent in summer?
I wish I could take chem in the summer but they donāt allow it at my school
cc?
hence the "do the equivalent in summer?"
Yea but I wonāt get the credit required to take other sciences in school
yes u will
if u show proof that u tooken the class and passed, its the same as taking the class
Rlly?
Do u have any recommendations from were to take the class over the summer
Like an online program
What if after taking cc in summers you take a chem exam in ur school and if you pass.. well you'll get credit ig
Ok thatās smart
Moorpark program is online and cheap as hell
Ok Iāll check it out
Take chem first and then go to AP physics
Thereās a reason why it is like that
Ok I see what you are saying but many people in my grade are taking physics and ap physics next year
What sciences did u take and in what graded
9th: Introduction to Earth, Space, and Physics
10th: AP Biology (I regret not taking high school chem)
Planned classes:
Summer of 10th: Chem M01 at a local CC
11th: IB Physics SL
12th: IB Sports, exercise, and health science SL
One reason Iām taking ap physics next year is because if I take it in 11 with ap calc and apush I thought it would be too much
I have no fucking clue how anything works
Turns out thereās a lot of chem involved in biology
Yea well
I do not know how each of the concepts tie to each other
Itās causing me to really struggle on my AP Practices
but people say that ap bio is easier then chem
y the chem m01?
Not biochem lol
Regular chem is so fucking easy compared to biochem cause now in biochem you need to deal with MASSIVE fucking molecules where you can have the same exact molecules in the same spot but end up with different shapes depending on a variety of factors
All of that shit is annoying as fuck to keep track of
I need 1 basic chem course to take Physics SL
Hey
Oh at our school itās not required for physics
I need a lil uni advice pls
do u think its better to do ap bio junior or ap chem
what
Are u in uni?
Technically yes
I preferably need an American maths uni student lmao sorry that's spesific
It's easier becz not all concepts are involved.. but chem is like necessary for bio
For you easily bio
Youāre a premed major, chem helps but not nearly as much as bio
Then senior year take Psych or smth
Or just any uni student at this point
What do you need help with?
I'm confused on how American uni is gonna work for me and what I need to do
Iām a community college student but itās close enough to uni
Oh if youāre from Europe it wonāt
European unis are significantly better than US unis
I wanna go to a US uni because the maths im doing rn is supposedly already mid level uni stuff and im only 17 so I'd have some time for once to get back on top of the class
I would encourage going to a uni in Europe, especially in Germany or the UK
US uni is slower than EU uni
You are going to be 4 years ahead the curve here rather than 3
yh
I'm not in uni yet and I know maths in the complex plane, hyperbolic trig, calc, series and summation, bla bla bla
but I have this year and next before I go to uni
This is normal high school level math
Well not hyperbolic trig
