#course-selection
1 messages · Page 36 of 1
where did you hear that 💀
they don't look at core classes they look at APs that u take
they look at everything from freshman to junior
I love math and coding but can't find out what college is best I want ivy league
they look at soph to senior
Coding is major and math minor
my college counselor
your transcript, when you submit it, has your freshman, sophomore, and junior years
i saw this “Ivy League universities look at all years of high school, including your freshman year.”
because you haven't finished your senior year, it wnot be on your transcript
or at least, your grades won't be
your classes will be (so they'll know if you're slacking off)
they might not weight it heavily, but they will see it
Hello can someone help
gpa matters but the classes you take dont matter as much
classes matter
they do matter bc they unlock later level classes- fitting in more AP's, especially as a freshman, is a good idea (bc it shows you can handle rigor)
you should take a higher level math class
and classes are interrelated with GPA bc higher class (honors vs college prep vs ap) are weighted differnetly
at least here there are three levels
it depends on the school
but there's always honors and ap
my school's curric only has honors
and they're weighted higher than normal classes
im not allowed to take ap till 11th
and thats fine
but don't say the classes you take don't matter
bc they do
they unlock higher level classes
and they matter for gpa
i said they dont matter as much^^
if ur school doesn’t have em then it doesn’t
depends on the college
as much when compared to what
take geo for 9th
also when you're gunning for the top everything matters
i’m taking ap human geo
Bro pls help
what
other schools, if you have alg 1 for 9th it wont be the end of the world
just do dual classes for math
I don't know what college to pick I like math and coding and want an ivy league school
dude
it takes like
5 seconds
what grade are you in
to research "good colleges for __ major"
7th
💀
um
then don’t worry about it
just focus on grades bro
maybe worry abt it in 9th
focus on getting ready for 9
I am doing 9th grade math
7th grade u should focus on getting good grades to get in a good hs
doesn’t matter, ur still in 7th
that would be something i'd say doesn't matter as much
the hs you go to
ofc it matters but like
it doesn't matter as much
Ok
North Carolina
i live in missouri
ny has some crazy schools bro
😭 worst state
nyc is so intricate
It's not that bad
i wanna live in nyc
the nyc curriculum is great tho
mhm
its college-ready
North Carolina never gets snow but it always freezes
Missouri
i always wanted to visit nc
it’s also called the “murder capital”
springfield
Hi fellow Australian
i’m not a country boy
nvm top 8.7%
Btw I'm here to ask what subjects are best for au
she means springfield MO lol
i live in nyc...
I'm from Australia
:/
Yo
Sry
dw lol
It's the same curriculum as nyc
I'm asian
u just said you were Australian
And top 1% in my school
australia is not in asia
My parents were Asian and I'm born in Australia then moved to America
asian as in race
where in asia
not nationality
i’m asian
India
same
wait if u live in nyc do you go to a specialized school
Telugu?
no
Andra pradesh?
no but top 1 public school
nobody guessed where i live 😭😭
Same
that’s #19
Telugu?
oh
Curtiz?Do you speak telugu?
Ohhh sorry
if you're in seventh why do you have the ninth grade role
also how old r u
theres another role for people under 13
yea
so we know they want to succeed early
yk??
also to not get to fed up bc you're young
My teacher just talked about it in school how we should not assume if someone is not Asian even if they are Chinese or russian
so you won't know as much
add me mega
yes 👏🏻
@noble wharf
for reals
13
dang
add
14 in september
how do i choose a role
channels & roles
Hey guys I need you help on an important decision
I didn't take a World Language in middle school (dumb move), so I cant take a AP Language Course
But My highschool offers German 1/German 2, so if I take that course, I will be able to take AP German in Senior year
But I don't know if I should take German or Spanish, since Spanish is more useful
I like both languages equally, but if I take Spanish, I will not be able to take AP Spanish, and can take up to only Spanish 4
Pls help me
its a lie
no language is more useful
like ok you'll live in america
doesn't mean spanish will be more useful
unless u'll be living like next to mexico or something
go ahead with german
german is a great language
our schol does a similar thing
so most people who didn't do a language pick german
because it can be done faster
Ok thank you
Next year I have the option between Ap environment science or chemistry. Should I take chem and then AP Chen the next year or stick with APES.
i recommend doing chemistry unless u have something to do with an environmental science major
Spanish is really only useful if you live in the extreme southern portion of the US. If it’s above like the 2nd lowest county you won’t be using it that often. The only reason why we place such a heavy emphasis is cause of LA, SD, and a couple of other cities.
German is also a great language to learn if you want to live in Europe. But if you want a language you can speak in pretty much all of Europe I think a better bet would be French as that’s sort of a lingua franca
Yes, there's a concentration of Spanish speakers in the southwestern US, but Spanish is used across the country.
https://www.arcgis.com/apps/mapviewer/index.html?webmap=3785a9fc024648ed8147428d6254c6bc
It's also the second most spoken language in the world by native speakers.
Although, I'd recommend to take the language you're most interested in and might use, @feral lava. That would give you the best chance of retaining it too.
first
and how related is it to your major
a lot
to both
but difficulty is my issue
like idk how hard it is and what you shouold have learned
Usually there is only a math requirement
For my school u can take it if u have passed h alg 2/trig and are in h precalc
It also might depend if the physics class is algebra-based or calculus-based. If you're interested in STEM, you'll want calculus-based physics.
physics honor
on the uc thingy
The syllabus likely has this info. Honors could mean a number of things depending on the school.
ik it says recommended
but assumming taking them conncurrently works
Whether or not physics is offered as a sophmore really just depends on your school
ik at my school there's AP Physics that is only available to Juniors and Seniors and CP Physics which is available for freshmen up
i believe we also have Honors Physics which you can take as a sophomore, but still, it depends on the school
Is it worth it tho
If imma take more physics classes
if you want to take AP Physics i could see it being worth it
also if you want to do STEM in college
k
anyone have a good course planner?
I know EdX has a few but you have to pay for their certs
and i think Coursera
there is a lot out there
Harvard has theirs on Youtube lmao
Class Central has got few courses from top unis of world with free certifications
I was wondering if anyone here had experience with dual enrollment. I can’t apply until next year but teachers are saying to think about it now so that we don’t have to make a last minute decision. Is it recommended/is it worth it
And by the way relating to my previous comment is it possible to get valedictorian with this?
Its possible but hard
What ecs
Explain to your counselor you're interested in UMich and as a result want to know if you're going to have the "most demanding" box ticked off of your school report form
As long as that's ticked off you're fine
See pins
Whats deca and bpa
What stuff did u do with piano and violin
What positions do u have in forensics club
DECA is a bit like a business Roleplay club
UMich adores the IBDP
What do you do in deca? @ripe geyser
If you want to get into UMich, you do the IBDP
Ooh interesting
It's a tournament in which you practice pitching and marketing I believe
?
It's a bit similar to MUN where it's non-standardized but it's more formal
It isn't
I can tell you this rn the amount of APs you need to complete to match the iBDP is way harder than just taking the IBDP
The classes themselves iirc aren't actually hard
It's just that the exams are a BITCH
No multiple choice, all free response
Here every exam in India is like this lol
Out of 80 marks question paper, we get only 20 marks mcq that too isn't compulsory smtimes it's there and the other times even those 20 markers are open end quests
Didn't ask
Does your school make SL classes last for 2 years?
Ik some schools make SL classes only last for 1 year so congrats, you got space cause senior year you can just replace your missing SL
But yeah, in your case the only way you can get the same affect of doing the full diploma is by dropping some of those ECs and figuring out other ones to do in return
Which if I were to be honest, is probably gonna be worth it
seeing how
The first number is the normal acceptance rate and the 2nd one is the IBDP acceptance rate
wait that's out of date
give me a second
there you go, that's the modern day acceptance rate for IBDP students
It's a powerful tool but in your case you're sacrificing a lot
1 grand for 2 years roughly
which is a lot but not nearly as much as a full AP schedule
If your school does 6 classes a year then for full AP you're looking at 1200 dollars
Well here's the issue then:
With how competetive schools become doing full AP is pretty much a requirement for these top tier UCs
6 total?
Eh there's an argument to be made it will if it doesn't tick off the "most demanding" schedule
The minimum requirement is to have the "most demanding" schedule ticked off and that's just to be on par with everyone else
But if your counselor says that box can't be ticked off for you then I encourage you stop looking at UMich and instead look towards other universities with significantly higher acceptance rates
Or you try to see if you qualify for financial aid by either your school, the IBO, or the CollegeBoard
We love IB
cool!
what's the part time job?
I think umich should be fine with 6 Aps
i mean of course
consider the IBDP
u can work with these extracurriculars as well
Is 7 AP’s in one year a good idea
not at all unless ur school does aps by semester 💀
which ones are u thinking of taking?
AP calc BC
AP Lang
AP world
AP stats
AP comp sci A
AP Bio
AP chem
This is for junior year
But I’ve alredy decided to drop AP bio and chem
And just do honors chem
I’ll probably also drop comp sci or stats
Yeah
3 im doing them rn
Yes
A’s
AP hug AP csp and I’m self studying apush
But these really easy AP’s
Hm
I’ve decided to drop bio and chem
yeah
i think that's too much work
no
don't worry
dont drop both bio and chem
do one science ap
I still have senior year
i'd recommend doing stats in a later year
so do 5 aps
yeah
so just do stats senior yr
but don't give up BOTH chem and bio
I’m doing honors bio rn
And was thinking of doing honors chem over the summer
Hm
What would your recommend classes be out of these picks
unless ur thinking of doing physics
do u think u need bio for ur major?
if not
then go to chem
The problem with AP bio is basically that it’s a requirement to take chem next year
Wether that be honors or AP
Bio isint really nessacary
After honors bio
oh
yeah ok
I recommend AP chem
Ok
So
AP calc Bc
AP world
AP lang
AP chem
(AP stats or comp sci)
Would it be better to do stats or comp sci next year?
Have you taken them both?
Oh
Comp sci or comp sci principals
I’m doing comp sci principals rn
Yeah I think your taking about principals
But yeah I’ll chose depending on which ones most of my friends are taking
Thx
yeah then split it up and do some senior yr, i think it would be best to do lang stats csa and world junior yr and bio chem and bc senior yr
I could do that
But I don’t really want to skip a year of math and then go back to it
Stats is 1000x more useful than comp sci
only if u have a good teacher unlike me 😭
And rly confusing with the formulas too lol
Bro go to yt and study.
i do
Good 4 u then
ik
Next year for grade ten I’m taking 3 ap course (math science and history) yesterday I got recommended for ap English do I do all 4 now
Dropping out and getting a GED
At least within the US
Also consider beginning your associates and finishing it in HS
Through DE
There’s a couple of online heavy CCs so you can get your DE through them
oh ok
do u have specific names?
i would love online heavy ccs.
then i could definitely do de
Within California, I believe the Ventura Community College is entirely online and asynchronous
ok
do u have any in illinois?
I don't know about illinois but you do not need to apply to a CC inside of your state
For the fully digital ones you can apply anywhere and start taking DE
ok
Are these APs good for sophomore year? :
AP Lang
AP Gov
AP Stats
AP Physics
depends on what you want to go in, but yeah those look solid
Should I take AP Lit over AP Lang instead?
I'd go with AP Lang. AP lang doesnt require a wide knowledge and is helpful in many different career paths. AP lit is good if you're planning to go into reading, writing, humanities etc. AP lit also requires more knowledge on certain topics and more reading
that's what I've heard from peers and from my experiences, but you should ultimately make the decision!
Also should I skip AP Physics A and go directly to C?
depends on your level of math, but I would say no. AP Physics C (both types) require a good amount of calculus/precalc.
Physics is also one of those subjects which is kinda weird when you first start, I recommend starting with physics 1 (or 2 if you think you can handle it) and then junior/senior year go for physics C
I'm currently enrolled in AP Calculus BC, is that enough?
Yeah that's great then! Most of what you learn in calc will be used in physics
I would still recommend trying AP physics 2 atleast to see how you like the subject before moving onto to C straight up, but it's your decision
AP Physics 2? I'm sorry, what is that?
Are Physics 1, 2, and C all different?
yeah they teach different topics, and get progressively harder
with 1 being the easiest, and C being the "hardest" subjectively
ap physics 1 and 2 don't really go beyond algebra 2 and precalc
not every school offers those classes though
hmm that's interesting because the two AP Physics classes my HS offers are: AP Physics I- Algebra Based and AP Physics C
In that case, you could try ap physics 1 and take C junior year. However, if you're good at math and breezing through BC, you could go straight to C. Just study a bit over the summer so you have basic fundamentals before going into the class
that's a good idea, thank you so much for your help!
Np, and good luck with physics. It can be pretty interesting and I personally enjoyed the class a lot!
thank you 🙂
Uh that's a lot for a sophomore
have you taken algebra II?
Also AP Lang at sophomore year is a bit crazy, I encourage taking English 10 Honors if your school offers it
For AP Gov I think APUSH or AP World would fulfil more requirements in more schools
is it bad to take an ap class during your sophomore year?
asking because i remembered i requested to take ap gov/politics-
edit: not "bad" but is it a bad idea?
It's not a "bad" idea, it's more of a: but why though?
i kinda live for academic validation and
Like if your school doesn't offer an honors variant of that class and you want to take the most difficult version then ig
that sent early but i like looking smart
(i have been an honor roll student throughout my whole career and id like to maintain that status)
That's fair lol but APs aren't really a sign of a "smart" person if you live in a mostly large high school
Look: take APs that you're interested in don't take APs that you're uninterested in
The only APs that don't follow this rule are: Stats, Lang, and CSP
Stats and Lang cause they're just that fucking useful and CSP cause it's just that fucking useless
Other than that take the AP classes you're interested in
good to know
What is the difference between high school physics and high school applied physics?
Physics = concepts and stuff
Applied physics= concepts with some more practicals like that can be used irl
(I GUESS)
Physics is more of the theoretical things that are very hard to imagine. A very high level example would be things like fluid mechanics, fields, and quantum spin
Applied physics would the the application of above. At a high level this’d be predicting the weather, predicting the ocean waves, checking for the existence of certain particles, and seeing the force of a car crash
Buisness and satatics is like eating Nutella with yogurt
What
Stats and econ go very well together
I mean if you’re sacrificing a lot then no. The AP capstone doesn’t command as much respect as the IBDP
Is this college or high school level?
Can somebody help me understand my schedule?
Some of it is at the HS level and most of it is at the college level
Cool, but currently I'm looking at high school
What's your schedule
I know this is late but here
Apparently everyone else has 9 classes and I'm the only one with 11
Those are ye course requests
That’s just the classes you have asked to take
Yes
That has no bearing on your schedule itself
Oh
Your counselor will add more classes if they feel it is necessary
hi! i'm a rising junior and this is my proposed course selection (lmk what u guys think, ie. if it's manageable, etc)
french 4
ap physics 1
ap chem
animal science/world religions
ap calc bc
ap lit
(animal science and world religions are both semester courses)
You will screw up with
This
?
almost 16
Oke then pick it , you have just need to havetime management skills.
what’s your major
i’m not saying that you shouldn’t, just saying it may not be necessary
i plan to major in vet med or kinesiology, im still deciding but i know i want to go into medicine
especially ap physics and ap chem together- that’s gonna be touuugh
mm then there isn’t much you can take out then
what sci did you take last year
yeah, im not too worried abt ap lit, most of my friends who have taken ap lit (at my school) say its easier than semester classes (most ppl average a 98 or above)
Then dropout ap physics
right now, as a sophomore, im taking chem honors and ap biology
yeah a bunch of stuff is school dependent
interesting
what’s your full schedule?
like
the rigor shouldn’t be too big of a jump
so i just want to see
this year, im taking
french 3, apush (death of me), ap biology, chem honors, english honors, and pre calc
apush 😣
i really like physics, and its useful in some aspects
I think physics didn't help you in bio field
i think you’ll be fine but if it feels like too much don’t hesitate to drop out of ap chem or ap physics
those are really teacher based
so keep that in mind
everything else shouldn’t be that tough
i was supposed to take ap physics and chem honors this year, but they messed up my schedule
no physics 1 and 2
ooh
we don't have physics c
i mean one thing you could do is ap phys 1 next year and doubling up with 2 and chem and senior if it feels like too much
bc ap phys one is difficult
i go to a really small (literally less than 100 people at my school) college prep school so most classes are based on student input
i would have done chem my senior year but because we have such a small school, they are like doing most ap sciences on and off each year
so if i wanted to take ap chem, next year would be my only year to take it
don’t think you HAVE to take those courses though
if it feels like too much next year drop one
yeah, i really like chemistry though, and my school is really good abt the add/drop period
hahhaha i think you'll get there :)
i utterly refuse to take another ap or honors history, im just so bad at it, like how do u study for history!!!
YES.
idk how people like history.
three years are required here and it’s so sad
no one likes history smh
and i was abt to get honors for the first semester but my apush grade was an 89 and you need 90 or above to get honors :(
i mean it isn’t bad but its so boring
it’s ok history isn’t the end of the world
the end of the world is my school
Simply a difference in skill
our academics actually suck
yeah but now we're writing dbqs and i'm crying of happiness, leqs are the death of me
i’m hoping my ecs get me through lolol
i never do anything just for college apps tho
i do it bc interest 💪
helps me stay un stressed bc i actually like the work
hahahha im the total opposite even though i dont want to go to a top school
i think my main school is penn state but i have other schools in mind (specifically for that in state tuition)
i wanna go to upenn 😩
i like the major options at big public schools since they are so many
i would want to go to a top school but they dont have the specific major i want
imagine even applying to upenn
i wld have applied but i didnt want to be that kid that got into every ivy
that’s why you don’t put college acceptances in your name
💀
yes.
what does this have to do with upenn
ive been getting a lot less dms now <3
😔
no more "how mit"
dw i’ll fill those up real quick
💀
ive been making too many jokes irl
and it has gotten to me
now my mind is in the gutter
or maybe im just down bad for my boyfriend idk
Anyone have any advice with summer courses ?
Have fun
does AP lit, AP stats, AP macro, and AP chem sound like a balanced schedule for next year? I have the option to also take AP micro for half a semester but I am not sure if that would be too much to handle senior year😅
Colleges always find it strange to take only 1 AP Econ class and not the other
I encourage taking AP Micro as well
As for AP Chem I would really only encourage that if you're interested in the sciences
Seeing your other APs I don't believe that's the case so if you'd like you could drop that for AP Stats as that's a very useful class to take
Or Calc AB to fulfil gen ed requirements
my ec's are all math and science related and I want to go into environmental science as my major
but ap enviro isnt offered at my school
so chem is the only ap science I can take bc I already took bio
I took calc ab already too
Did you take AP Stats yet?
the only options left for next year are stats, chem, lit, macro, micro (half a year), and spanish
Cause it's generally going to be useful for your college career and you don't want to offput it for even a semester
I want to take at least four bc I am on track for valedictorian
So I'd say add AP Micro and AP Stats and drop AP Chem
hm idk dropping chem might look weird for enviro scienc3
I do a lot of enviro science outside research too
It absolutely does but the payout of taking AP Stats will outweigh whatever uni you're realistically gonna go to
well I am def going to take stats regardless
AP Stats is easily the most useful AP Class alongside AP Lit
And this background knowledge will always be useful in all years of college
Especially freshman and sophomore year as you try to clear out your gen-ed requirements
is apwh good for 10th
yeah
Are 4 ap’s junior and senior yr okay
What Ap classes should I take in 9th grade ?
Yes, I have. I'm currently taking Honors English and I find it fairly easy. Idk I might be able to handle AP Lang? Anyone here taking AP Lang?
AP Lang is a very useful course to take it's just a bit much
Especially for a rising sophomore
Like what class are you gonna take Senior year? Most schools require 4 years of English after all
My school offers a ton of Dual Enrollment classes for english so I might take one of those for my senior year.
Then you might be fine
Idk, I think the extra year of English would help but if you feel ready for it then go for AP Lang
can any of you please check over my 4 year plan and give me tips please?
tysm!
im planning on going to CS
No
Things change just from yaer to year, much less over the course of 4 years
yea ik but this is the gneeral plan
Also AP CSP is a joke
the classes are't gonna change most likely
DO not take AP CSp
um
its required for CS academy but ok
i understand its rly ez
Also what is AP CS Applications?
ive done it already
a tiny bit harder version of ap csp
Take it Freshman year
You do not have AP Computer Science A?
i wanted to do AP CSA freshman
i do
There's no such thing as AP CS Applications
ap computer science applications
That's not an AP class
That's not what the A stands for 💀
A stands for the first semester of college lol
Drop Physics C: Mechanics
Only take Physics C if you took another Physics class before hand
Physics C is a 2nd year Physics course in college
^
you don’t need 17 ap’s
so its too hard?
yea ik physics 1 alr
im taking geometry honors for 9th grade, what math classes should i do for the next 3 years after that? ima do comp sci in college
im workign on physics 2 outside rn
Too bad, take the class itself first
have you taken the ap test
Push out Enviromental Scinece and push Physics C to take up that slot
and instead put AP Physics 1 instead for Junior year
Drop AP Chem
also too hard?
Take Biology instead
no i dont want bio
Most colleges require 1 year of biology
what school lets you jump like this what
ye thats summer
Too bad
Don't
...
Don't take summer school for classes unless you have to
That time is better spent on other things
i did for geometry and it went fine?
eh
debatable
Geometry is easy
Biology isn't
idk our school's bio is like
i’m taking bio online soph or junior
ok
also why do you need ap bio
Drop AP Chem and instead do Regular bio
why
Too bad
i wouldn’t do they
Most colleges require bio
You don't want to shoot yourself in the foot
Does't appear on your transcript
tru tru
Well either redo it or take AP bio
Regardless, biology is a gened requirement for most universities
o damn
You shouldn't be doing 5 APs sophomore year
?
hs
but 2 of them r jokes
it appears on mine
ap chiense and ap csp don't rly matter for me
They still whoop your ass
ill take as an easy calss
csp and chiense wont
im worried abt worlds and chem
They really will
When we say the class is easy, we mean in relation to other APs
They're still AP classes
yes i have done 3 ap classes already
outside of school
but all 3 were the easiest
Horrible idea
of the aps
Colleges genuinely hate seeing that shit lol
colleges wont even know i did it
im doing it in school
formally
bcuz its not good to do an ap test before hs
im taking classes
to learn the stuf
so i won't fail so badly in hs
The reason why colleges don't like it is precisely because they want to know what you would've done with better time management lol
like a prep kinda
They now think of you as someone who's lazy rather than being a dumbass
i mean like its 1 hr per week
o
1 hour per week is how much I spend on my club
You could've used that time to run a club instead
i run a robotics club
idk if i spend an hour a week tho
But you instead choose to spend that time on some classes
colleges don’t know rhst
i run clubs as a freshman
im gonna have to focus on clubs a lot in hs
thats why im doing some prep stuff in ms ig
Still
you just make the club…?
You can make a club any year you want lol
so ur advice is to not take the ap class?
or rise to exec within a premade club
I made a club as a sophomore
Drop AP Chem and instead take regular Bio or AP Bio, drop AP Chinese you won't need it where you're going
im mostly wondering wehter or not i drop ap lit
what do i do instead of ap chiense
that's 4 years in the future
i need 2 yrs of langauge
Don't worry about that
Remember how you said you wanted to take biology over the summer?
yes?
Take a guess what you could do over the summer instead
Damn
Then ig keep AP Chinese
o ok
it isn't but it's also not advisable
many people ik have done it and done well
so drop chem and do bio in 10th grade
especially if it’s online. you still have time to do things like a job and volunteering and all that
yes
my school took away german this year when i was planning on taking it lol
And then drop APES, move Physics C to where APES was and instead take Physics 1 or 2 Junior year
i rlly don’t like that
imma have to do regular physics
@ my school that’s a downgrade
the algebra0-based one
like physics honors?
That's fine
You just need a background in physics
That's it
Don't take Physics C without any background lol
It changes school to shool
At my school it's not a downgrade
cuz phys c is hella hard so im doing phys 1 to get background
As Biology is annoying as fuck at my school since we primarially focus on micro biology
Especially on the APs
chem h to bio h?
yeah
interesting
Both are often actually equals
...
In my old school they were both equals
Actually that's wrong, at my old school Chem is advised to be taken before Biology
do ap bio
As the bio class at my old school was really fucking difficult
school dependent
o crap
minimum grade for ap bio is 11th
i thot chem was harder
chem is harder
Some schools that focus on Microbiology might ask you to know basic chem before microbiology
here at least
ill ask counselor if i can redo bio in 10th?
Changes from school to school
you could do sm like
chem h —> physics —> ap physics c —> ap bio
i don’t like regular physics though
yea
regular physics is kinda wasting time
i wish our school had phys 1
also our school doesn't have phys c electromagnetism
honestly see what you get on the ap exam
if you get like a 5 then you’ll be fine for C tbh
5 on music theory, chinese, and csp
it’s be hard though
In my school we have to memorize this bullshit
why i don’t do bio 😀
Not the exact name but we have to memorize this whole entire enhancer bullshit
This is basically the cycle of how DNA is expressed as your genes
Biology 🤢
Going from Chem to Bio isn't that bad lol
Is dual enrolling physics electricity and magnetism worth it if my school only provides till physics c mechanics
It might be advisable for some chem courses that are more focused on micro biology or biochem
As both courses are meant to be taken together, yes it is worth it
But one will have an in-person teacher and the other won’t
Das fine
You can handle it lol
Okay thanks
It's a bit annoying but it's still doable
If it wasn't they wouldn't offer it online
Just make sure the prof teching it is good
But I'm sure you already know about ratemyprofessors
For major in computer science (no ap), is this fine?
Grade 10: foundations&precal w/ Ott coding 11
Grade 11:
Precal with Ott coding 11 (again)
Grade 12: calculus
Ott= off time table
First I have to ask why you want to do comp sci
Cause depending on your answer my suggestion might be to look at other majors lol
Because A. Its something I like to do and B. I have good grades in grade 8&9 comp science so I thought I keep going
Aite in that case I would say you're not fine without any APs
IF your school doesn't offer APs then you're fine
No colleges and unis in the area + my high offers any ap classes :/
Are there any online CCs you can consider?
If you live in California the Ventura County Community College District offers many online classes you can take
I think every class they have here can be taken online
So if you live in Cali you can take DE at Moorpark, Ventura, Oxnard, or East Ventura
Is geometry over the summer worth it
i would say yes
geometry isn't that hard
except make sure u understand on proofs
Why take a class over summer lmao
Yeah
Except if ur CLEPing
So I can do a high math class
.....
The one my teacher recommended is a scam
Since you legit have to pay to go there not to mention the campus fees
Also I live in bc
there was a guy who went from geometry to calc bc
Only classes u should do over summer are CLEP classes for college bullshit
so he's in calc bc in 8th grade rn
Dang
It's not a race
Yeah
How the hell
Especially for maths
Why do people think its a race
It's not a good thing to accelerate your maths education
It offers so many struggles and it's not like you're graduating anywhere earlier
Sorry for his loss
But at the same time I heard it would be harder to take it full year
I mean I was planning on taking precal 11 after precal 10
On the same year
i meannn
Especially honors
he's the type who studies math for fun
Hell you're actually getting too many credits lol
Most maths you take in college is at the calc level or below
Yeah but proficiency is cool
So if you go to multivariable calc it's useless
Also it's not like the math taken in calc is the kind you actually use
not unless u want to go into a math major tho right?
That's not even the dope math tbh
it is
Math major is more philosophical than it is based in maths you know
Accelerated math mfs when they have to retake 3 years of math in college
he's been making aime since like 6th grade i think
take it from a person trying to get a degree in maths lol
I haven't done any awards stuff in HS
should i take english 9 honors
Mainly bc I don't care that much about em
Yes
Take it and try to drop down if it's too hard
have you guys taken it before?
Even then don't try to accelerate your maths unless you're unable to take calc by senior year
At my school
what do you do in english 9 honors
English Honors classes are generally not hard
It changes from school to school
Hardest english class I have taken was a standard English actually lol
Oh I forgot
Grade 11: chem/physics + precal + coding 11 Ott
Grade 12: chem/physics + cal
Is this fine?
@ripe geyser
At my old school we mostly focused on rhetorical analysis (knowing how to write), and writing short 1 page essays
That's it
How come chem and physics are split?
You get to choose which one you want to take
Honors is a scary title but I'm telling you this right now:
All standard classes are actually just honors classes that have been ended a little earlier on in the curriculum giving more room
They actually tend to go at the exam same rate excxept for the last few months of school where it slows down to a snails crawl
alright yeah because it's going to be my first time actually taking one
Yeah
Once you go to the 11th and 12th grade then you'll find out that the Honors curriculum is actually just one that's cut from its AP equivalent and the standard curriculum is actually one that's just cut from the honors equivalent
So in my school English 11 is just English 11 Honors with some things cut out which is itself just AP English Lang with some things cut out
For Sciences it's the exact same thing
Unfortunate I dont get the ap luxury :/
the thing i don't understand is years ago, in english class, i had grades ranging from Ds to low Bs and now i have all A+s. it's too weird and confusing for me that i just made a sudden growth
If you take Bio and go to AP Bio it's all the same classes
i didnt get recommended for that 😭
Puberty is a hell of a drug
The gray matter of your brain is now being more focused on learning and absorbing content
You are now as smart as a normal gifted child who never got any specialized education
Source: I am a gifted child who never got any specialized education
i had extra help in english like years ago because of how bad i was at reading (reading as in answering questions)
and i also got recommended for honors world history and do you know the difference?
same thing but this time apply it to AP World
I'm going to be serious here: from what I know AP World is often considered easier than Honors world
If you can, try to take AP world
in my school, it goes from normal, honors, and then ap
It goes at a fast as fuck pace, but that's the nice thing, it actually often goes so fast that you get less homework than regular world and you don't have to do as many projects
I strongly encourage taking AP World
It's a good way to introduce yourself to the AP Work load and it also helps with your gened credits
alr, will honors and ap classes be on my transcript
:/
No ap colleges, no ap universities, not even my high school does ap
Sadness
You're fine lol
Does your school do IB?
