#course-selection
1 messages · Page 28 of 1
so about 200 people per grade
yeah
small town high school
they get away with other methods that idk and idc about lol
We have 3k for 9th-12th
Yeah that's a big high school
Wow
No duh
I'd say once you get to like 750 it's big
Imagine going to a big school
500 is medium
So many advantages
I used to go to a school with 109 per grade so
Imagine not working for the district and getting paid by the school
100*
I should do that
What
I should leave
I have a job at school and get paid for standing 5-10min a day and get access to staff stuff
$100-$300 a month
What da duck doin
Not enough to live alone obviously but good for extra income
I bought it for $4400
Do u have a better job then standing 5-10min a day?
That pays more?
He stands for 10 min a day wdym
I had a job where I stood for 8 hours a day
but
Don’t ask for too much
I also got to meet Oliver the pimp
I get paid for 30min for standing 10min
so I think I had the better job 💀
Ikr
Yeah but do you get to meet Oliver?
Wtf is Oliver the pimp
that's what I thought
Stop trying to relate if u dont have a job
Wow
Does that matter? Idc who he is or what he does
That’s my cue to leave
I explained earlier:
The manager at my McDonalds was an Australian transfer high school senior whose day time job was being a manager and the nighttime job was being a pimp
he's dope
U guys are mean
also really gay
I’m going to math help
idk what life circumstances led up to that job discription but I love him
So yeah, do you have an Oliver type of person in your job?
does it matter?
if it doesnt matter, y should i care?
Cause it's Oliver
good for u
what’s ap human geography about and is it hard
Is AP human geography better or AP government better for freshman year
wdym by better
their prob equal
Kk thxx
Does it matter what APs. Do certain ones look better for college
take the aps that relate to ur major the most
and it doesnt matter what aps u have, if u have enough rigor in ur schedule and do more then regulars for ur major
is AP Human worth taking during freshman year?
no
it gives terrible credit and is a useless grade weight
like idek what college credit it could give
Alright
wdym by terrible credit? it counts has history i think
Most colleges don’t accept it, not even my community college will- which is like a low af bar.
My school considers it an arts elective i think
or a pe class maybe who knows
it counts as an elective
ive got this study guide from someone that has study guide + notes for most ap, and their good notes
i have this to help me with my aps next yr
i’m lazy
Sup
So you are planning on doing your GCSEs
What did you take prior to that?
Are you choosing GCEs or GCSEs?
Right, so what subjects did you pick before GCSEs?
Your lower secondary subjects
No I mean, what did you study before?
I want to know what you studied before so that I can give suggestions
Yes, I sat for the Cambridge exams for my GCSEs and GCEs
That's interesting
Consider additional mathematics, mathematics, and computer sciences
Yes
Sorry my discord is bugging out
Do you have a backup option?
Triple science is useful
Backup career option I mean
Oof
Dentistry is very competitive
You need chem bio and maths for dentistry
You are choosing nine subjects right?
Or more?
Alright cool cool
Tertiary levels?
Your GCEs right?
Sorry, I have actually left the UK a while back after finishing my GCEs
I know but I'm not sure what T levels are
Back when I was studying, we only had O, As and A levels
I see
I'll have to check what that's all about
So you've got further, Maths, Cs, three sciences, Spanish and english
So now you have 8 subjects at hand
Not sure what you could choose for a ninth subject
DnT is an OK choice
You can pursue it if you don't mind drawing
Have you consider any finance-related subjects?
Principle of accountings, economics?
Geography as a fourth albeit not so applicable science?
That can work as well
You don't like memorising?
That's good
Dentistry needs that
Business studies might be a good option for a 10th subjecf
For dentistry, if you want the upper hand, yes
I don't know how competitive is software programming
When choosing a uni to study in, you need to find out how you can convince the admissions officers that you are the perfect fit for them
But you will soon notice that universities value some traits and that these traits overlap with the others
We used to have something called personal statements, where we describe and sell ourselves
Basically your unis will know everything you write on it
However, the UK has scrapped the written personal statement for a video version
I don't know how that system works
No not that
It's basically a sort of document containing your experiences and skills
They use it to find their preferred candidate
When they see a good match they will invite you for interview
You need additional skills outside of academixs
Leadership, communication, Interpersonal, work ethics, patience, etc
These kinds of things
But the ones I listed above are for medicine
I'm not sure what unis look for in programming students
So you have to do your resewrch
Here's another tip, start a few projects surrounding your course
It will help a lot
Maybe go for an attachment to see real programmers
Will help a lot when on your resume for the admissions officers
No, like, actual programmers
I mean sure that sorta counts
But like programmers who program for a living
Observing their daily life, and shadowing them will give you invaluable experience
Sorry, I don't. My network is primarily with med students
I'm not a med student yet but once I am I will have a lot of help
I guess so lol
Right bye
Best of luck bro
So i really wanna persue psychology
But im bad at math
So could i survive the statistics and probability courses?
Then do it
If psychology is ur passion and it requires math, i would say so
It doesnt need as much math as other courses
Ok?
Then what’s ur question
I have another one xD
Ask
So like,To get licensed here in my country, You need a masters degree but in other countries abroad,You usually need a doctorate
So would it be worth it to get a doctorate?
Which country
U need a doctorate to do anything in the medical field, its a MD or DO
Not really
Yes u do
The minimum here is a masters degree
Besides i wanna be a psychologist not a psychiatrist lol
Yeah, u get a masters in ur major and then get doctorate and then phd if u want
And in a few provinces in canada, A masters is enough for licensure
Idk how CA works
Thats on u, idk what to tell u
:/
I cant make decisions for u
Well like im asking if its necessary for like better employment or smth
Then u should have just asked that
I implied it lol but mb
And yeah, better degree prob equals to better employment
Well i mean in the end i dont really have a choice since i cant afford a doctorate
????? Where r ur questions going???
If u can’t afford it, then y u asking?
I have school tommorow-
Cuz like
Later in life i could probably afford it
But atm i can only get the masters which is the minimum
Just ask the questions u have
Always scholarships
Idk if i could get one-
and if u can, getting student loans sometimes is ok
Im like
there's always many opporuntiies
Smart but not really-
How do u measure smartness?
Because becoming a doctor also has some pay
u can't
i argue thaat there's nothing called smart
i mean there's iq
I wasnt asking u
Well for me it comes down to your thought process
The way you think
Wdym
Like
wow...
Efficiency in problem solving
ok, so that's related to iq
but for scholarships
it's not about "being smart"
its more about working hard
???
just do that
I mean atm i dont need a scholarship
I disagree
We have a state university here and you know what that meansss
Ur literally going in circles rn
ok,
No tuition! 🥳
No i dont
so if u don't need a scholarship
state universities do have tuition
it's less tuition
but there's def tuition
Thats in US
Idc
Does that matter?
Them is many people
that shpuldn't matter
Them is also a pronoun
Or they/them pronouns
And im not assuming their gender so i say them
Its rude to call a male a her right?
Mb, I forgot that theres like 1000 pronouns
Alrighty
yeah,
so state universities
for u are free?
that's awesome
You get told about 1 new pronoun type other than he and she and you say that ._.
Yea but post education isnt
but again, trying out for scholarships and getting some student loan when u need some is totally fine
And neither is private schools
Isnt there like xe or something like that
for post education, especially for a doctorate, that's probably what u can do
Uh yea i believe those are neo pronouns
I mean if u could, applying to a US post education college will probably get u more financial aid
Well you see
I have a phobia
Its called ahem
✨ Dissertationphobia ✨
Just get ur education done and ask questions if u have questions
Those are neo pronouns and those people are very very rare (I’ve never met one) so just use they them as a catch all unless someone tells you their specific pronouns
Hi. I am a freshman in high-school. I want to get into MIT. As of right now I am 1st in my class. But next year I have the opportunity to take dual credit or ap. Does anyone know which MIT looks more into.
Oh also that applies only in the us i believe
Btw whats different with neo pronouns then he/she? Like is there a new body part that sets them different?
it's fine
Everything
but if u want a good education
Its what they identify as and what they want to be called as
Yeah do both, they are seen as the same. Ap might have more options for credit in college though.
honestly if u challenge urself
it shouldn't be too bad
Its just what they want to be called, so ze/zem/zeirs. Tbh I don’t understand it too well but it’s no effort for me to do what they want so idrc
OK thank you
Yea like if you dont wanna respect them then dont expect any respect out of them
One of my friends is probably going to get into mit
@low salmon advertising
Like if he doesn’t then the application system is so screwed up
Huh
what
why am i pinged
Wtf i didnt send that-
Were you hacked?
Im not even in the server-
@cinder gorge
Uhh idk where do i check that
🤷♀️ just force sign out everyone and then go back in
What's this channel about?
that matters
like even the best of the best have like a 30% chance
Whats the name of this channel
cuz of how competitive
Oh how do i do that
did u accidentally ping me?? @cinder gorge
Yeah absolutely but he genuinely has a really good fighting chance so I really hope he gets in
yeah
Whos he?
i hope mit makes their class bigger
The name alone isn't very reflective of what it entails. And yes I may or may not have forgotten to read the description but that's because most channels don't have a description
@vocal wagon
Just one of my friends
Oh wait i just checked the signed in devices
And nope own all of the devices signed in there
And the message was sent a few minutes ago even if i didnt dm them
So
Im very confused
Is it shown in your dms?
Its shown in mine too-
I feel like this guys tryna frame me cuz i just clarified gender and pronouns for them xD
First of all, reset your password. Second of all, log out then log in
And are you sure no other devices accessed your account?
Yep
well
either way
toki shouldn't be banned
because that was done in the dms
not in the channel
Does someone have access to my account-
but they didn't do it in this server
If you didn't do that then obviously yes
Literally dms and the server makes no difference, i have experience with this stuff, stop trying to argue
Lol another logical fallacy
anyways
There's a reason I'm not mod and you're not mod
Also thats not my intention lol
I came here to find some help with school
Uh huh
Then idk but apparently someone has access to my account
Idk how nor when
Since it didnt register in the discord client thing
Only devices that are logged in to my discord are mine
Alright ima change my password too
Aaaand done
Hopefully a duck doesnt go browsing my discord lol
Ima block him so it doesn't get up to some mischief
I didnt but its to avoid further incrimination
Also why would i even send that to you xD
Do i look like an advertiser
Im just a kid who's bad at math
Looks can be deceiving
Whatever you say my guy xD
Just saying if ur salty about me explaining things then ya shouldn't try to get me banned
Now goodnight i have my thesis defense tomorrow
oop
Not enough aps imo
The grade u have the most def shouldn't be sophomore year
also i wouldn't recommend taaking us history twice
quick question
if you had like the choice between AP World or Ap Psych for Freshman year, which one is more worth it?
depends how u define worth
oh I meant like which gives more credit towards future things
same credit
which one is more useful though
I want to major in like physics
like which one provides more access to other AP courses, because some Ap courses require like prerequisites and stuff, so does it matter if you take Ap World?
no
true except in the hs I'm registering for physics isn't offered for freshman
i meant Psych
So my school doesn’t really offer aps for freshmen and sophomores- are there any easy aps i could possibly convince my counselors and teachers to let me do? (I don’t want to end up with a million aps junior and senior years)
not really answering your question, but you could self-study an AP. You may not get the GPA boost, but if you pass the exam, you get the college credits
I self-studied CSA last year and got a 5, this year I'm self-studying ap physics
its not too bad, theres a lot of resources online
i wouldnt try self-studying something like AP bio or AP chem tho, those require a lot of work and best if learned in a classroom environment with a teacher
Oh yeah, always forget that’s an option!
i’m also self studying csa, do you have any advice?
honestly just practice, practice, practice. If you have any friends doing CSA in class, ask them if you can use their practice FRQ's, MCQ's.
I also highly recommend using CSAwesome, it is a bit "boring", but they have really nice explanations and go through every topic:
https://runestone.academy/ns/books/published/csawesome/index.html?mode=browsing
Also check out collegeboard official released APCSA tests, they have a lot of practice MCQs and FRQs you can practice
thanks!
so how do you self study an Ap again?
do you just like talk with it with the school?
Double blocked.
For me, I just asked my counselor if I'll still be able to take the test in my school even without the class. You should be fine, I'd just tell your guidance counselor your plan
is it availible to freshmen
?
yeah! I self-studied CSA as a freshman
ohh gotcha, tysm I will keep that in mind when I talk to my counselors
np! and good luck!
ty you too!
I'm taking the class in school rn, and we also do a lot of Java problems from PracticeIt
Practice-It is an online practice problem tool to help students in college and high school intro programming courses learn and practice basic CS1 and CS2 programming concepts.
should i go for the harder classes, I am going to go to college for music and art but there are teachers out there that know that I’m really smart and want me to do AP classes
Does your school offer ap music theory or ap art
yes
sadly no, I’m in all the music extracurriculares that the school offers
Maybe think specifically what comes easy to you
Like subjects wise
alr, I’m just going to take as much as I can since Im already ahead of my grade
hi guys
ik this isnt really course selection related
but if any of u guys are part of ur schools newspaper or are enrolled in a journalism class
can you plz give me some insight on what its like, what you learn and if i shud join it or not
i think its really interesting but im also not completely sure yet
Should I Take Computer Sci or Business management?
I want an all rounder Course That Will open up the most opportunities throughout my career and I'm interested to both of them.
Both majors open up a ton of paths and viable career options, I'd say choose whichever one you're passionate about/interested in
Ty
How does this science sequence look?
Freshman H. Chem (self study normal bio and finish self study of AP physics 1)
Sophomore AP bio (self study AP physics 2)
Junior AP chem
Senior physics e and M and physics mechanics
thats pretty good! Do you plan on majoring in the science field? If so, this schedule would be really good!
I plan on majoring in physics
The thing is is that my school doesn't offer physics c until you completed all the science courses and technically it's not even AP physics it's physics at the local University
Just in the areas of mechanics and electromaticism
that sounds pretty cool
Okay cool
and that would be really good experience, taking a college level course
Exactly
are you a freshman currently?
I'm doing the same thing with my math courses to do calculus 2 senior year
Same! I'm probs going to do dual enrollment calc at my university
Eighth grade planning my high school schedule
ohh that makes sense
I'm currently self-studying physics 1 and it's honestly a breeze, if you want some materials I can give you some
A thanks man I have been using Khan academy and I just picked up Princeton review
That would honestly be lovely
That's really cool
Oh yeah perfect, khan academy is really good! I started off using that. I'm not sure about princeton review but it's a really reputable source so it should be good
Yeah my local library had that book so I picked it up
I'm about halfway through circular motion and gravitation and I started about a month ago maybe two
Nice
i'm going into my freshman year this fall; how do these classes sound?
during the summer: health & bio
during the school year: adv english, integrated II/III math, chemistry, ap human geo, art, spanish 3-4
i'm taking art cause the ninth grade elective options are pretty limited and theres nothing i really wanted to do, so i decided to just do art next year to get the requirement out of the way
DO NOT SELF STUDY CLASSES
That’s it
Legitimate question what is wrong with self studying classes? You still get the information.
I can't wait to go to my counselor (she placed me in these classes without any say from me) on monday when we begin registration and be like "not doing any of that"
Because there’s no benefit
If you’re self studying APs there’s no benefit for it as most schools find it strange to do that, including T50s
If you’re self studying regular high school classes then there’s no reason to do that because you’re forcing yourself down an accelerated pathway that your school doesn’t expect and that leads to a lot of struggles in HS
You spend more time doing something that nobody cares about and will only make your life harder
nothing's really wrong
it just matters whether u can handle it or no
and i think u might be able to as long as you have enough time and are passionate enough
i mean, that looks pretty good
Can I ask why? I'm an IB student and our school does not offer IB physics at all, so I'm currently self-studying AP Physics since it's important for comp sci. We also don't have any leftover slots so I can't even take it in school
Well physics isn't actually important to comp sci! Also generally schools find it strange why you would place all of that effort into a class that in general can be learned at in college. It also doesn't help that it actually is a massive turn-off for colleges if they see someone who had self-studied for an AP class as the first thought that most AOs get when they see that is "what could they have done with that time it hadn't went towards studying AP Physics?"
Here's a fun fact: in that question, a lot of AOs will embellish the potential future and then remember that the future they had imagined didn't happen, get really disappointed, and then throw out your paper (assuming T50s)
Similar logic applies outside of T50s but it's not nearly as bad as outside of T50s most colleges are willing to give you the benefit of the doubt
There’s nothing wrong with it. Self studying works for some but not for others. If you’re motivated to do it you’ll be ok but if you don’t have motivation and you’re forced into it it’s gonna be hard
if you really want to learn physics, then I strongly encourage you instead take the IB Physics class online, or you instead take a college class
There isn't for the individual, but there is if the individual is trying to aim for T50s
I have a question
many T50 AOs have stated before they do not like seeing self-studied classes on transcripts or test scores
This year I’m doing AP bio, USH and Lang. My school only is limited on a few aps but I don’t know which ones to ask for
the exception maybe being for similar level classes (i.e if you take the AP Calc exam while also taking Maths HL or if you take the AP Physics exams while taking IB Physics)
Well what does your school offer?
And what kind of job are you interested in?
The ones left are human geography, environmental, calc bc, stats, spanish Lang
I want to be a doctor
hmm that makes a lot of sense. I did hear that physics was somewhat important though to CS. Our school offers AP physics, but us IB kids can't take them since we have no open slots.
dont classes in college cost a lot more than what they do in highschool
like the same credits done in hs would be like 200$ but in college, would be thousands?
Alright, Seeing how you're taking 3 APs rn you want to save some for the future I would encourage taking human geo to go with USH and that's about it
I also have Gov.. I’ve heard stats are good to learn if I want to be a doctor
Oh okay lol
Stats is useful for pretty much anyone tbh
One last question
There's not many jobs that require a high school diploma or greater where the knowledge of AP Stats isn't useful
Some schools offer "dual enrollment" which is basically an option to take the college classes during high school
Lastly, take the college classes at a community college rather than a 4 year institution
CC classes cost about 250 dollars per class and while not as applicable, still makes you look highly competetive
This si assuming there is no Dual Enrollment option
would you say stats is needed for CS
or is it just physics, calc, and comp sci
most schools have that option and in that case you get 4 classes for everyone
Stats is needed for almost everything lol
During the Covid years where it hit the hardest, I was in my freshman year and wasn’t able to do good that year. Would admissions look at that as heavy as they would look at my sophomore-senior years?
AP physics is not needed for CS
I fucking hope so, I had a poor freshman year grade lol
Same
My max GPA I can get by Junior year is a 3.7 UW :pain:
But I encourage you look into the UC system
they do not add freshman year classes to your evaluation
well they do
but not the GPA from freshman year
damn i shouldve studied that instead of physics ;--;
thanks bro
i think we get one open slot senior year so ill probs take stats then
There are also rumors that when Princeton calculates GPA they don't look at freshman year grades but those are rumors
I really hope they don’t look at my freshman.. remote learning was the worst thing I could have experienced when it comes to my education
Physics is still a good class to take for anything math related, though not as much as stats which is good for any field
you can put that in the "additional notes" part of your common app, no?
i think itll help
AP Stats is the AP Equivalent of King of all trades, master of all lol
yeah I guess so
I’m not sure, I haven’t dealt with the college app yet
That is possible
I mean when you get there
it's called an extenuating circumstance
Issue is that top colleges will usually not consider poor grades caused by COVID as a viable extenuating circumstance unless COVID is a factor of another factor
i.e: you had depression beforehand but COVID made it worse
Alright thank you
Outside top 50 you're fine lol
Also can I ask you a question involving algebra 1
I encourage you look outside top 50 unis
Thank you
Okay
Unless it's related to whether or not you want to take/skip the class
which if it is then yeah sure
Oh, i just wanted help with algebra 1 - 2. Covid made it nearly impossible to learn anything for me so I didn’t end up learning a thing from algebra 1
And now I’m in algebra 2
So I’m just sitting in that class
Suffering
Inform your teacher about that and your teacher will be able to help you better than I can
How about your counselor
Consider taking algebra I over the summer
She won’t let me
Was there a reason why?
She just told me that she isn’t allowed to do that
I encourage you send her an email or ask her about why she isn't allowed to let you retake a class over the summer
most schools allow that to happen so I find it strange why she wouldn't let you do that
Either way, I encourage you go on Khan Academy and see the video lessons there as that's honestly the best you can do
Guys I’m going to high school next year and I feel 7 credits for freshman year is too little my schools requirement for freshman is 6.5 and the max is 8 credits
Am I taking too little amount of credit classes? My academic classes are mostly honors idk if that matters tho
Alright but I also am wondering I’m taking honors planet earth (science), honors English, honors US gov and regions. Are these too many honors classes?
it honestly depends on the school and teachers but if you think you can handle it then it should be okay
personally for me i took all honors freshman year and i managed fairly well
I mean I got recommended for all honors but I’m only taking a few honors so if I got recommended does that mean I probably could’ve taken all honors?
If you did good I think I can too
it honestly depends on you and what you think you can do
me and you are different people, which means we have different studying styles and stuff lol
i originally only wanted to take 3 honors, but they placed me in another honors class without telling me so i just dealt with it
but if you think you can do it then i believe in you :D
so my school is starting to do course selections for next year (context: i'm currently a sophomore, and i'm taking english honors, chem honors, apush, ap bio, french 3 and precalc)
i want to be a vet when i'm older so i'm wondering whether or not i should take ap environmental, my plan is take ap physics and chem, but would adding on environmental be worth it for me? i can also send my planned course schedule for junior year :)
Thank you I think I can do it I have my parents support and yours I’ve handled stressful things before and I think I can do it
Did you take biology in 9th grade because it can help you become a vet
yes i took biology honors last year (9th grade) and i'm currently taking ap bio this year (10th grade)
and i'm planning on taking ap physics and ap chem next year (11th grade)
does your school offer anatomy?
it does but i doubt i'll take it, and they are trying to shorten electives to 1 semester as opposed to a full year
I think it could help you gigantically from what my mom has told me she is a doctor btw she said when she went to high school in Poland before she came her to college she took honors science and ap and all that
I think you could do well
My school for biology if I wanted to take it 9th grade both of my electives are gone
my question was more or less is it worth it for me to take apes and would it be manageable taking 3 ap sciences the same year
i think ap enviro is really easy
and fun
not sure if its beneficial to a vet career though
but it is fun
I hear AP chem is terrible
Ap Chem is difficult but really fun
It starts off pretty easy but gets significantly harder
for our school, ap physics is very hard and both of the classes are time consuming if you want an a in them
Pre Calculus Honors
AP Lang/Comp
AP Biology
Chemistry Honors
World history (Virtual)
AP CSA
Essentials of BioTech

Is that a manageable and worth of a 10th grade schedule?
Like what?
In your case Chem and AP Bio
AP Bio is a fine course to take, I'm taking it
But I'm not quite certain if I would want to pile chem honors on top of that
especially since the majority of the chemistry you'll be learning in a chem class is also taught in AP Bio afaik
Oh that’s a common a route at my school
I mean if you want to go for it
But I encourage you look for other courses that might enhance your biology experience
Doesn’t Chem do that?
Depends
if you want to be a bio-chemist then yeah
But if you want to be a bioengineer then learning electronics is more important so an engineering class would work
seeing CSA in there also makes me think you'd benefit from taking a stats class as it might be in your interests to do Bioinformatics in the future as that field is a newly budding one and has extremely high potential for growth and demand
As it stands right now the average starting salary for a bioinformatician is 100k but it'll probably decrease by the time we get into college to about 90-80k
Still a hell of a salary to start off with, especially with something related to biology, a field well known for generally being the worst stem
I wanna go into physics
why the fuck are you taking chemistry, compsci a, and biology if you want to go into physics
Wait why are you taking bio tech
homie is taking everything unrelated to physics 💀
in that case I encourage you take on a more math heavy courseload over the year
I encourage you consider taking AP Calc next year rather than Precalc and learn precalc over the summer
generally afaik precalc is one of the easiest classes to self learn for
And while I usually encourage people don't do that, it seems like your school doesn't actually offer an alternative to help you out with physics lol
Unless you had AP Physics and you decided for some god awful reason to pick not AP physics and instead everything else
please don't tell me you did that
See I’m not sure about going into physics
Aite
Well then, I still encourage you follow the path I'm telling you about and keep the rest of your classes
I don’t think I can take ap physics next year
taking calc AB as a sophomore will leave you space for AP stats senior year which is generally the only useful AP class you'll take
Im a freshmen right now
mistype
Okay
Cause with AP Calc AB as a sophomore you get BC junior year and stats senior year
which will be far less intensive helping out with course load and also give you an AP Class that matters
I was planning on dual enrolling for linear algebra and multivariable calc
Doesn’t bc cover ab?
It does, but generally AB will help you out if you can take i
especially considering that:
having no math class senior year is a struggle
and dual enrollment for linear algebra/multivariable calc is a solid
One doesn't simply just take calc 2
Wait so should I take engineering instead of biotech if I wanna go into physics!
it's often the hardest calc class most schools offer
You should take whatever the fuck you want tbh, you're going to be exploring a lot of fields
If you want, then take engineering
if biotech seems interesting then take that
Okay thanks
Freshman and Junior years are really more meant for you to explore shit
But wouldn’t it better for college apps if I was decided on something in hs?
Not as a freshman
Also note:
like 55% of all people in college end up changing their majors in the middle of their education
O
I think this is especially the case in unis like harvard or other T50s where everyone enrolls as one thing and exits with an economics degree 💀
No
More just that an econ degree often is the easiest one to find work in
I wouldn't say useless
more just that they don't pay as much as other majors
And even then there's always exceptions
and also: most people at T50s get "useless" majors
I think the most common major at Harvard is english or something 💀
Bruh what
Why is that a common major
I thought it would be something like engineering
Or business
A lot of reasons, generally because the English school is the largest one
The arts are usually the first buildings to be established in any college older than 100 years old
so it's also usually the largest
Hence, 25% of all Harvard students have english as their major
However it changes if the universities first building was in a different field
So for UPenn and Pepperdine they established business schools before their college of letters and sciences so for both of them business is their largest fields
What do they even work as with an English degree
A lot lol
English is actually really underrated
If it's not a STEM field job, a degree in English can usually get you in
Journalism, a couple of business based jobs, consultation work, etc.
A lot of jobs will take english degrees alongside with the specific degree for their job
(i.e Business jobs taking a BA in english over a BA in Business)
That’s interesting
But it sounds kinda not respected
That's because it's not
OFtentimes a specific degree is better than an english one
but they'll still be accepted anywhere they go if they come from harvard lol
Wait so r ppl double majoring in English ?
SOme are
but many aren't
It's rare for people to double major in English, usually double majoring goes between STEM fields or STEM+Business
Is a minor worth it?
Humanities do not double major that often because the workload for double majoring in a humanities is genuinely the hardest thing you can get
Like a minor in any field
Oh
Depends
Like a minor in Comp Sci is always worth it unless that's your major
Same with a minor in business for some fields
Like major physics and minor in math or cs
If you're a major in physics it's assumed you're proficient in maths so you often don't need to pick up the minor in maths
Honestly if you're going into physics you can probably get 2 minors, 1 in maths and 1 in anotehr field like Comp Sci in your case
I think a maths minor for physics takers only requires like 1 or 2 more classes
Just dw about it
You're a freshman
actually I'll give you a bit of existential dread so you have something to worry about moreso than for your future job
Your childhood is ending in 3 years, make the most of it
💀
So sad
yeah!
Note: have you ever heard a single adult in your life stating that they wished they tried harder as a sophomore in high school so that way they could've gone to harvard?
yeah there's a reason why you haven't, it's usually the Harvard kids who are jealous of the people who made it into normal universities cause that means they often actually had a childhood
Idk man
Also note:
Undergrad degrees often don't matter where you get them from as long as they're not a scam
I think it’s better to know things ahead
So according to you, what should a sophomore do to get to Harvard
I don’t wanna go to Harvard
Yeah but don't worry about things ahead
that's what I'm getting at
know what could happen in the future
but simply just do things that will make you live the rest of your life as a teenager that is happy and healthy lol
Atleast for my bachelors
Oh okay
Step 1:
Realize you're not making it into Harvard
Step 2:
Live your life
What grade r u in?
10th lol
Bruh you basically the same age as me
9th grade fucked me the hell up
You are way more knowledgeable than me
@ripe geyser what did you do
🧠
Oooh I see
Oh yeah side story: my best friend liked crack
Tbh idek where the hell he got it from 💀 I'm still wondering where a fucking 9th grader got Crack Cocaine from
Either way: dw about where you're going in the future
just live your life
Wdym by crk
@buoyant vapor Your message(s) have been flagged as spam and have been removed.
I am referring to cocaine that contains a methyl base that when heated creates a "popping" or "cracking" noise as a result of the base being released
Bet y'all didn't know that little tidbit about crack cocaine 💀
wait was it a methyl base?
lemme check
What how do u know so much about everything
I drink alkaline water
✨
I think charge has something to do with it
but more just that the base might make the cocaine more basic than usual
yay for cocaine
these are the alkaloids
Wait what do phds even do with their life? Like for example a physics phd, after their course work they just research so do they research all day or do they start like business or spmsyjkng
It's just research
they ask usless questions and get them answered
And then they figure out the questions weren't useless in the end
Does anyone recommend honors chemistry?
No reason not to
Actually
wait
Honors are harder than AP classes so idk
Uh
Go for it
For 9th grade btw
Non-standardized classes make me feel
hard as fuck to study for an honors class lol
But you're fine
I took bio honors 9th grade
9th grade is genrally not going to be any difficult classes
I almost failed geometry honors!

Non-standardized classes got me fucked up
What if i do chemistry and biology in the same year?
I’m taking ap gov and it’s so unnecessary ly hard
That’s what a lot of ppl do
Ask your counselor
AP World is cool though
you get some dope teachers there
Ok
You just gotta takes notes and your fine
Don't you need a certain amount of history classes to pass HS?
But if you don’t💀
APUSH isn't more difficult than AP World iirc
Ik
But take APUSH
it's a dope class
I’m dual enrolling ush
Also Standardized and has less HW than it's non AP varient
It's also the middle of the semester
💀
grades have a dip in the middle of the semester
Then in the end people get their shit together and everyone gets an A
it's normal
It's really not
Should I also take honors algebra 2 or just algebra 2 without honors
Have you ever considered it's a thing related to your students and not your school?
APUSH should never be that exceedingly difficult because it's a standardized class
?
if it is then whistleblow lol
honors
Yeah Honors
Ok
Honors Algebra II includes trig which will fulfil your requirements for precalc so you can skip it and take calc
That's meanial work, not difficult work lol
ther'es a difference
Ok
Why don't you want APUSH, if you get at least 3 in the exam you'll stand out better than those who had no AP history classes
difficult is: neurons firing
Menial is long duration
coalition
Get the kids in your class and make a colation against your teacher lol
idk what that'll do
but it'll be funny
I did that for Civics class and it worked!
Mowo
Moro
Also one more question, should I also do honors English and/or honors world history?
i would do both
Ok
never take an honors history lol
honors history isnt bad
Honors history is 10x more difficult than AP history 9/10
it depends on the school
We only have world history and honors world history
well the issue is we don't know what kind of curriculum you're in
and teachers
it varies from school to school
ask your counselor if your school offers AP World
that might be for your case
but keep in mind the person asking is a freshman
same
Isn't AP World usually meant for freshman?
idk at my school freshmen take either AP Human Geo or World and then sophomore they take the other of the 2 APs
Cause your school is for BITCHES
cause the people in your school are BITCHES who UNDERESTIMATE the semester 2 COURSELOAD
I think you should, I regret not taking honors Eng or WHist in 9th Grd, so I'm taking them this fall. It's just my view anyway
Semester 2 of a lot of classes gets hard
see: sigmoid curve
this is how the difficulty of most classes work
for regular course scoot the curve to the right a couple
The thing is though im not 100% sure if I should do all honors classes tbh so i was thinking of trying 3 of the 4
and for AP course keep it the same
have you asked around other students about the classes? @astral crown
like in your school
Honestly not really
i think you should, if they say its difficult then adjust
Well here's the neat thing:
I think in the sheet that schools send to the colleges they will inform colleges about your school and some practices it has
All i know is that like only 1 or 2 students are doing bio chem
if that feature is institutionalized then the colleges will know you decided to back down from a chalange
which is pretty much one of the few things you can do to throw your application to any T50 down the gutter 💀
i was the same in freshman year; i didnt want to take all honors but i ended up doing it and it was pretty easy but this can differ for you @astral crown
i reccommend asking around how it is like at your school, but also if an honors class ever gets too hard you can always move down
Granted, that's only if the school explicitly told your world History teacher to do that
if not you're fine
👍
to increase the difficulty of the class to make students drop out
If you want outstanding grades I recommend taking honors classes in 9th and maybe 1o th Grade so that you get ready for Aps
Not with the purpose of making you drop out
and also difficulty =/= speed
tbh droping out of a class looks infinitely better than not taking it lol
I dont know any students who already took that class. I think they recently added the courses
Ok
Especially for AP classes cause it shows you decided to take on a challenge but you decided that it wasn't for you and you backed down on it
You're damn lucky your school lets you back out of classes lol
mine doesn't
i would try it and see how it is, you could always move down a level if it gets too hard
I was thinking kind of the other way around by taking regular classes and in sophomore year, i can take honors if freshman was easy
Well good news:
Some subjects for people have a "reverse difficulty curve" which generally means that the normal difficulty of the class is the most difficult and as the difficulty goes up, the class becomes easy
Everyone has 1 or 2 fields like that and it's generally a good idea to see where your fields that are like that are
Plus, im not sure if you can back out of classes
I'll just say this:
Most schools do not allow students to drop out fo classes in the middle of taking them, your school lets you to do so, as a result I encourage you abuse the shit out of that system while you still can
In my school you can't
its better to start now than later yk
which sucks if you're taking IBDP
or you'd regret not taking advantage of honors in freshman year
cause in that case, 4-5 out of the 6 courses you take in a year are 2 year long courses you can't drop out of
so I have to take the same math class for 2 years and if it's too difficult then I can't do shit about it lol
yeye
So just do all honors then?
yes
just try to take as many most difficult classes as possible and then reduce retroactively
if you need to
It's always better to have the difficulty of a class go down then never have a spike in difficulty
Most schools have a history requirement
wait
If you're not taking APUSH what the hell are you taking next year?
regular US History?
I got bad news Max
When you put it like that it makes sense
THe problems you described in the AP Histories are 10x worse in regular history
because the curriculum is slower so they often have you become more fixed on the details of history rather than the overall movement
APUSH is generally more about the movement and pace of history while regular USH is more about the details of history
so waht I mean is in APUSH you learn about how the articles of confederation ended up leading to the constitution which led to the emancipation proclamation which (if your school teaches critical race theory) led to the current state of things where the constitution is outdated
actually now that I think about it, doesn't APUSH teach CRT normally?
I think it does
so hey that's one benefit
you get a guaranteed CRT education which is generally really rare lol
Never take CRT for granted, that shit is lifechanging
Critical Race Theory
It's a hot point in the US Education system
a lot of people view it as racist and shit but it's actually really interesting and neat
in a nutshell:
Since the founding fathers were all racist, that means that the constitution was probably written with the intention to have racist policies plague america for the rest of history as the very basis of how our government work is institutionalized to be racist
hence: racism in the U.S and why it's still around
Neat shit, I encourage everyone of all races to learn about it as the specifics are really gritty and groovy
Its in the description but here it is: https://nextadmit.com/gohar/
que?
Ah
Well it more serves as an explenation why that's the case
the foundation of the U.S is racist which probably would lead to racist policies
of course assuming that you're on the end of the people harmed
yeah
It's for a diversity that is probably needed lol
Yeah
it's a cultural divide which you should probably be proud of lol
Yeah
Luckily I got good news:
Asians who don't do stereotypically asian things are ranked higher than white people who don't do stereotypically asian things
Out of the 4 categories, the rankings go like this:
Asians who do stereotypically asian things
White people who don't do stereotypically asian things
Asians who don't do stereotypically asian things
White people who do do stereotypically asian things
You don't have to list that out on your application lol
just view those things as time sinks and that you instead have a restriction on time
Still doesn't mean you can't go out of your way to do cool ass shit
hell my parents currently are unaware that I own 3 companies, they're gonna be in for one hell of a surprise if any of them goes under lol
Ik
but just see what might interest you outside of school
I encourage you try to see ways you can incorporate some of your hobbies with your identity
This might of been from another video I think but it also has some opportunities:
At MIT Admissions, we recruit and enroll a talented and diverse class of undergraduates who will learn to use science, technology, and other areas of scholarship to serve the nation and the world in the 21st century.
I'ma use a company I own as an example
I own a fashion design company that's currently working on its first wave of clothing. In my case I loved fashion a lot and I especially loved the hype beast style of clothing (i.e supreme, gucci, luis vitton)
But I also am an arab and it's generally weird to see an arab wear supremee or OFF-WHITE
so I've instead decided to just make my own fucking fashion brand that serves as a blend between the usual hype beast (a part of my hobby for fashion) and traditional arab clothing (a part of my arab identity)
That's an example
I know
There always is
but it's always fun to look at the more extreme ends
You could sell custom volleyballs
well not sell
make
Like put an asian art deco on a volleyball
is it ok to do algebra II and then trig H
nobody has to
(not algebra II H)
you just have to do something dope lol
Just do things related
Like I said, putting an art deco on a volleyball is always a dope project
Hi guys
Just start off somewhere
find something dope, and figure out a way to make it a part of you physically
DOesn't really matter how or what you do with it as long as it's done
doesn't hae to be a business, it can be a personal project
idk what asians do the long ass row boats but maybe in your schools rowing club you can have an event like that where everyone gets inside of those giant row boats or smth
Well in that case you're connected to some American sub culture
Blend 2 American sub cultures lol
idk blend the hype beasts with the goths or smth 💀
honestly sounds like a fire fashion design philosophy I might include that
