Do you think I could handle the APs as a sophomore?
yeah
Im in 8th right now, i decided to have as many things out of the way for high chool
School*
I decided on biology as an elective, AP human geography, and AP environmental science, along with Honors English again and Honors Math. Do you think i did too much?
I actually started working on my 4 year plan for the COC all I know for tenth is that im going to do AP psychology since my mom actually goes to college for it
Also im doing Spanish 2 next year
No. Those are both moderately manageable AP’s. But then again you will be a freshman and thus will need to test the water
True, I spoke to my Honors science teacher this week and asked him about it, he says they actually compliment each other. If i actually put in some work im sure it’ll be fine.
Yes. Ur teachers 100% correct. Envi Sci and Human Geo have many crossovers.
Oh good, im hoping that with so much work it doesn’t mess with my sports, I decided on wrestling and track for this year and probably next
I’m also taking Envi Sci next year, and I’ve heard it’s manageable
Oh thats awesome, i also heard in human geography you had to learn all of the countries in the world is that correct?
Not sure. It isn’t offered at my school. I really enjoy geography, and I find the island nations the only hard ones to identify so u shouldn’t have a problem even if
Wait really? I thought it was super common, my only hard ones are in Africa i think. Im trying to learn all of the small islands like Vatican City
Yea I’m upset that it’s not offered. My school has a lot of regulations on AP’s. Freshman arnet allowed to take any, and Sophmores can only take one
Dang
Wait are states a part of leaking personal information? I was going to ask you what state your in because in mine were allowed a lot
No
Massachusetts
I don’t think it’s that big a deal because Massachusetts sends the most amount of kids to top 20 schools so I’m not complaining to much
Ive never been, sounds awful that you cant take more than one though
Oh wow
Whats your expectance rate for the college you want?
I think mines like 75
But i live in utah
My colleges actually take 6,000 dollars off if your part of their religion
Let me guess BYU
Yup
Loll I had an inkling
Are u Mormon ?
I was actually raised moving around but until i was 7 i lived in LA
No, im not mormon or LDS
Latter day saint is their thing mostly now.
Interesting. I don’t think there’s a Mormon within 300 miles of me loll
Lol its filled with blonde hair blue eyes kind of people
Who all own cattle ranches, houses, and like 2 dogs
LOL the closes for me is probably like 10 minute biking probably
Lucky you. Ma is super packed. Harvard is a 5 minute drive from where I live, so I’m in the heart of urbanization
Were urban but still country ish
We pronounce mountain as mounn
I think if they do bio engineering that i might go to U of U or BYU
Their like our only colleges
Probs u of u tho
cool
Yeah
Im planning on doing madrigals (a really advanced choir) but I haven’t done well when it comes to music notes
Im also planning on peer tutor
We have those at our school
Oh cool, what grade are you in right now?
10th
Ohhh
AP Human Geo is amazing!! I’m taking it right now, and we take geography quizzes but it’s not that difficult, and lots of teachers don’t include geography quizzes
Definitely recommend knowing your countries though
Is AP euro difficult
Should I do AP computer science for junior year?
Matters on your school
there's def more homework
and you'd be better off if u did world or US before
I think it is
Is this channel specifically for college courses
It’s so easy
Oh ok then! I'll probably do it
Hi I want to take Honors Spanish 3 as a sophomore but I’m only taking Spanish 1 right now, I’m trying to self study for the Spanish 2 test, is it a good idea?
depends how much immersion you have with Spanish on a daily basis, or how well you know the language.
with languages other than English, you typically do not get proficient at them via high school courses
no
its a bad idea
u learn most of the stuff in spanish 2
they expect u to write a paragraph n stuff in spanish 3, and honors is gonna make it even harder
So I plan to have a difficult schedule freshman year (mostly honors) and orchestra, Spanish 2, etc but should I take acting and intro to engineering and have no study hall, or will study hall be so important that I don’t take engineering and/or acting.
So basically- how important is study hall
Oh ok but we already write essays in Spanish 1 and my teacher recommended for me to do it so idk what to do
Because I’m hearing a lot of things
idk
Homework I guess
so u need that time to do hw?
Ok
so I skipped level 2
for french
level 2 usually isn't too not important to skip
I don’t really think so- I really have to talk with my counselor about how useful it is
but u do have to be able to know some stuff
I was just wondering if I’d need it with the workload
if its just a free period, ur wasting ur time
like for example in french level 2, the past tense is really important
so just like self study the important thing
in level 2
i dont have a study period and i have 10 classes
and then skip it
Do you have any Aps?
honors?
Should I take Japanese? I know it to some extent, however it is the second most difficult language in my school.
because in my opinion study hall is a waste of course space
but of course some people genuinely need it
I'm planning on taking these college courses over summer. Has anyone taken any of these. If so is it manageable?
- Sign language
- Health
- Graphic design
these look manageable
and i don't know your preferred majr
but by health do you mean like the health we do ith pe?
its fine
I'm not sure that's the problem. I asked in the college app advice section
ohhh
ok
but anyways
Yeah kinda. It's just the anatomy and stuff
Ok then I'll probably do those
I definitely recommend more compouter related
stuff
while also having creativty
so web developmen
etc.
these classes are good but I think u could def take better classes worth ur time
Ohhhh I'll probably look for a college course related to that them
True. I was just thinking basic classes that I can get out of the way before college
Probably not. I just heard that it's easy. But I wasn't sure if I should take it or not
ok, that's a good idea, but usually when you do college courses during hgih school, it's not to fulfill credit. It's to get a college experience
Yeah but you can also do dual enrollment, where you do a year worth of college courses during high school instead of having to pay for it during college
yeah tht's good
Ok thnx
just do the classes and try to put de and special admit and ur ecs
Yeah that's what I've been planning on doing
gl
Is dual enrolling a world language a good idea?
ye
if you prefer it over other options yeah
unless the teacher is horrid then probably reconsider
i think my friend said the same for Spanish two!!
I’ll try my best, thanks so much!
Hi all, my counselor told me that if I took classes at our local college that when I applied to university they would not offer scholarships because i wouldn’t be a first year college student
Freshman Year:
Advanced English 9
Algebra I
Advanced Biology
Advanced World Hist. To 1500
HPE I
IT Fundamentals
Spanish II
Is this true? Because I’m not actually in college I just want to take the courses
no
i personally wouldnt do that
Why not?
its not well planned
So if I take courses at my local colleges will it affect my scholarships and if I get accepted as a freshman?
NO, u can apply to other scholerships
theres millions of scholerships
ok?
Ok, have you taken course at a local university? I wanted some insight on how to go about it
yes
i go to a uni and go to community college
and hs
Aren't you in 10th grade
yeah
Oh that’s awesome!
i got invited to a uni's orchestra and take classes at cc
Oh my gosh this is great I was so stressed out
I was hearing that everyone was taking courses at a community college but my counselor told me I would be a transfer student
So I was so confused
not true
cuz u didnt finish hs yet
As a tenth grader what courses are you taking at the cc?
ah
and ur not a full time college student
Ohhh
@cinder gorge What do you suggest I take
its a coucnlering class, its required to do before the other classes
Omg thank you so much you are the best ever
I'm taking the hardest I possibly can, I love the challenge
idk, idk ur intrests or ur passion
These are my interests
I love math, science, and social studies
English comes easily to me
I applied to an IT program
I want to learn Spanish and Russian
I'd say it's pretty planned out
Duck, what AP classes are you taking right now?
look, im not here to decide ur life, im only here to provide useful info to people so they can make their own decisions that they think is best for them
I’m a freshman and i wanted ideas for what to take
none, this yr is my chill yr, but next yr will be hard
Oh that’s cool, what classes are you taking
im just fosucing on ecs rn
What ecs do you do
I’m trying to start an organization to help kids learn science but I’m so lost on how to start it because i don’t want kids to have to pay for it and i don’t know how to advertise
org at school?
Oh that is awesome
i do paid and free tutoring
What’s CM
CMA = certified medical assistant, CNA = certified nursing assistant
Oh that’s so cool! You are old enough to do it?
its like ABRSM
ye
i have more, but thats just the major ones
That’s awesome, i wish I could find all those opportunities that’s so amazing
Do you have tips on finding internships? I’m still a freshman but i want to do research on a couple topics I’m interested in
just search
ask people lots of questions
No, idk if I want to make it a non profit but i just want to make an organization to teach sciences
but only take advice from qualified people and not people that arnt qualified (people who dont have experience)
Would it be ok if I asked you for advices?
thats not good, theres alr big companies that do teaching and are certified for free
sure
Thank you so much
and isnt teaching science school?
I just wanted to do it with younger kids because i felt like in our area they barely teach science or have biology based programs for them
Maybe like fun projects to do together
starting an org will be hard, so u might wanna find some people who are devoted to help
Alright, thank you, arent you President of an organization?
Do you have tips for running it?
I started a club at school but i want to make it more popular
whats the club
It’s a crocheting club and everything we make gets donated to hospitals
Also, I’m in orchestra too and i was wondering if you had tips for how to get further and maybe branch out
branch out how
branch out what
Around 60 kids showed up to informational meetings at lots have been showing up
But idk how to get people to stay and make it more fun
Maybe how you joined a school orchestra or getting awards
try to take peoples inputs, like ask them what they wish could be implemented or something]
do u have a teacher?
like a private teacher?
also, what imstrument
getting a teacher is a must, if u wanna do stuff like that
prices usally range from $30-$500, i pay $70/hr for mine
but its worth it
Oh
Especially when u start winning awards and scholerships and getting accepted to fancy orchestras
like i got my scholership my freshman yr with like 2 months of lesson
Well I don’t plan to study music so do I need to get a teacher
it would be highly beneficial to have one to be a successful musican
Especially if u wanna win stuff in hs
ask ur conductor if he has any connections
idk any near u
Or medicine programs/extracurriculars
Is there anything I could submit online for or go somewhere for
my medical program is specifically in my area, so it cant help
for what
Oh ok
Maybe online research or scholarships
music or medical?
There is a CNA program at my school should I try it?
Medical
u planning to go to medical?
idk
Yea
then yeah
but does ur school has cma?
and theres prob some prereq for the cna and cma program
whcih field
Most likely Biotech or cardiology
I am passionate about both but idk if I will choose cardiology if I go through med school
sure cna can be useful but just having the certification isnt as impressive as implementing it
like if ur gonna do cna, u should get a job in a nursing home or soemthing
thats my plan
Oh do you have a job implementing CNA too?
?
ur sentence doesnt make sense
what about it
reword this sentence so i can answer ur question
Currently, do you work or have a job that uses some of the skills you learned in the CNA program
im getting a job next summer, and ofc, the whole purpose of cna is become a certified nursing assistant
Oh that’s great is it local?
Ohhh that’s nice
My school says we have to go to our local cc for the CNA program, is it the same for you
no, our advisor retired 2yrs ago
Oh, would you recommend doing HOSA though
ye
Ok thank you so much, do you have tips for applying for medical internships? And should I apply at a more renowned university in my area? Or just a regular university
Sorry for asking so many questions to you thats all 😭
- search for them
- apply for all and go to the best one that suites ur need the best
ask more questions
Wow thank you so much you are like my hero
Questions r good, as long as their not stupid questions
stupid questions meaning questions that doesnt have an asset to either parties
Do you think my sophomore year schedule is ok?
show me again
APUSH, honors chemistry, chamber orchestra, honors pre calc, gym, honors Spanish 3, honors English 2, pltw biomedical sciences
Or should I take more APs at a community college
do what u think u can handle
Ok thank you
i personally wouldnt do that
Oh what do you recommend
What do you mean by time efficient
ur not doing anything different that relates to ur major
Oh what about biomedical
everyone has a schedule like urs, what makes urs unique?
do that
What are some classes I should add in then? What did you take in sophomore year
- Sophomore:
- APush TA
- Sports med
- Math
- Wind Symphony
- English
- Chem
- Spanish 2
- BSD
- DE
- Extra Curricular Activities
- Cal state long beach
- Honor band
- Flute competition
BSD = body systems and disorders
thats on u, u should be the one deciding
i reason i did apush ta is cuz its either that or pe at 7am
and apush ta gives me background knowledge for next yr
My electives i chose were APUSH, pltw biomed, Spanish, chamber orchestra
good choice
ok
apush isnt a elective
then dont do it
do something else if u dont need any of it for graduation
how is apush gonna benefit u?
Well I still need to take it to graduate but it takes up an elective spot
u can just do de for the weighted gpa
just 1 yr?
What is de
can u do pe during the summer or online?
dual enrolement
Oh that’s only offered to juniors
y
Is that how you took classes at colleges?
no
going to the actural college is special admit
Our district is really strange
de is when it gives both college and hs credit
special admit is just college credit
Ohhhh
Oh man idk what to do
Can I refine my schedule for next year and send it to you later? For your opinion once i think it over?
sure
but take some time on it
cuz it took me a few months to make my schedule
i was planning since nov
Can someone help me figure out what classes to schedule for next year?
the stuff ur intrested in
Alright thanks a lot
I don't really know I just don't really know what I'm going to do because I'm really hoping to get into governor school but def dual math analysis
otherwise no clue
well i cant help if u dont have any intrests
ok thanks anyways
dm me if u have questions
Ok thank you so much I’ll work in my schedule
i need one more year of science, should i take AP physics 1 or IB marine Biology SL. I really want to go to USC or UCLA film school and i know those schools require you to take challenging class so idk which i should choose. does it even matter since its not something im going to major in later? AP physics looks better on a transcript i think and its an AP class but at the same time IB marine seems like something cool and fun.
Do you need to take basic bio for AP bio?
Well in my opinion, you should take basic bio because you'll get the basic foundation to be covered in AP bio. It's difficult to jump to AP before knowing the basics.
Could you self study basic bio and then go straight to ap?@severe meadow
Self studying is one of the best techniques to push yourself into higher levels. Yes, you can self study basic bio. While you're self studying, make sure you know someone who can help you when you're struggling at a certain topic so you can understand better and build up your knowledge to prepare yourself for an AP bio.
Self studying is easier as well, and there's so many resources online to help you out aside from asking people who are knowledgeable at basic and AP bio.
Is It possible to self study Chem and take APchem?
The nice thing is for bio I have people to help me. My older brother is in college for bio and is living with me and offered to help
Yes. It's logical science so you may also need time to break down the topic into small units to understand and build up your previous knowledge. There's many resources online to guide you and for sure there are people around you that could help you out so you can jump to AP chem.
Do you think i could take APUSH and APCHEM at the same time?
I’ll be doing that in sophomore year
That's good! Same here! I'm mostly a self learner but I can ask my dad for help with mathematics and sciences. Then my mom for humanities and social science.
Oh also I am about helf way done my self study of AP physics 1 and it took me 2 months do you think I could get done by may 11th for the test?
I also haven't been doing it hardcore but I could if needed
Yes you can, but it might be difficult, so you need to advance yourself and make sure you maintain your studies so you're not behind.
Do you have any recs for where to self study chemistry
Nothing is impossible. All you need is diligence and good time management to make sure you can do the test! You have like three months left so yes you can get it done!
Does recs mean recommendation? Sorry I'm brain dead with that word 😭
Yes lol
If you want free resources you can go to YouTube and Khan academy. There are definitely more websites and links you can access for chemistry studies and other academic studies. But you may need to search that up because it's a long list with information written.
yall lucky you have motivation and don't waste tiem
when you try and self study
i self study for like 1 day and then just quit for like 2 weeks lol
Do you think since APUSH and APchem are such difficult courses I should take a different AP?
what APs did you take in tenth?
If you are looking to take AP chem then I would recommend you should have taken honors Chem so then you would have an understanding of most of the concepts
I did general classes in tenth grade except for maths. I was told to take two difficult math courses that are above my current year level. We don't have APs here.
Since I turned in 11th grade I take courses that are known as "ATAR" (highest and most advanced courses to take offered in high schools) for two math courses (methods and specialists), English and science subjects.
In my opinion, I don't think taking AP USH and APchem is too hard, unless you're going to slack and procrastinate. I'm sure you'll survive.
My advice is don't worry so much how difficult the courses you want to take are. It's only going to stress and push you down. Focus on your studies by being ahead of your peers, especially because you are planning to self study the basic foundations of the courses you want to join.
Im laggy on discord btw 😭
If you are worried about taking AP chem then you should probably take honors Chem first and APUSH shouldn't be too hard unless you are caught lacking. Just take notes and study for tests and quizzes
Hi! So, I know almost nothing about AP exams and I was wondering how self studying for the exams work. (Also I live in Canada if that makes any difference.) My school only offers a few AP courses and I am most likely going to take AP English and AP bio, but I’m really interested in psychology and considering it for uni. My school does have a psych course but I may not be able to get into it next year, so I was wondering if I should take the non-AP course and take the AP exam or if I would be okay just taking the AP exam.
Along with this- has anyone here taken the AP music theory exam? I’ve been in the RCM program since I was a kid and I’ve passed my level 7 theory RCM exam (I think that’s equivalent to level 5 ABRSM but I’m not sure). Would I be able to take the AP exam without too much work?
Also, how do self-studied AP exams work? Can you do them online or should I talk to my counsellor to get them done in school?
If u passed rcm level 5, u learned half of ap mt
Ull be fine
Hell no
U need at least 50 aps and 100 honors
Quack
im currently doing igcse
extended
I self-studied AP-CSA last year and self-studying AP Physics 1 this year (Im an IB student 😭 so can't take them in my school).
Basically, I bought one of those big books that goes over everything in the AP curriculum and studied unit by unit. Once the AP exam deadline approaches, I just made sure to go through old MCQ's and FRQ's (multiple choice questions and free response questions) and just kept on doing them.
Also, if you have any friends that are doing the actual class, ask them for resources!! I had a few good friends that gave me some of their collegeboard practice questions so I could practice. if you don't it's fine, just make sure you have good study tools. This could be books or something else. Depending on the actual AP, there are tons of online resources.
I would NOT recommend self-studying an AP like AP Calc BC or Bio since those are decently hard APs. In the end, it's up to how much you like the subject!
Also take my advice with a grain of salt, I'm just a highschool Junior so I wouldn't be as experienced as a Senior or something, hope this helps
What high school classes should I take if I want to be a film major in college?
A lot of film is writing and literature based, so I think some sort of english class (AP lit, AP lang, etc.), visual arts/drama would also be a great choice. If your school offers a theater class, you could try that
My school offers a creative writing and screenwriting class, should I take those?
It depends if you're interested in it or not, but those classes would be benficial for a film major!
And one more question, would literary analysis of film be helpful?
I think it would! A lot of film relies on storytelling techniques and and concepts like understanding the plot, themes, etc. of a story. That class would be pretty helpful! (Of course this is only my opinion!)
yes it helps a lot. idk. i think im wrong. the reason why i think it is helpful is because it aids you to make meaningful/detailed films. that explanation won't make sense anyway (im sorry 😢 ) but yes, it is helpful
Thank you both so much!
Np (:
Hey I was thinking of taking AP Stats, AP Principles of Computer Science, and AP Calc AB. Is too that much for my junior year?
Y’all recommend anything non-academic? Or is it ok to stick with just academic electives?
If you’re applying to schools in the USA you should do non academic things
AP Comp Sci is a joke, stats is super easy
Calc is hard but it goes really slow
Only 3 units a semester
pretty good
all of those as long as ur on top of ur tasks
then u will be fine
is taking AP bio, AP environmental sci, AP psych, and AP world history too much for one year?
From what I heard apes and ap psych are very very easy so I’m sure you’ll be fine
I have decided to do AP human geography since its easier than AP european history but will it look worse if I do am easier AP class or does it not matter
I heard ap enviro is really easy and so is ap world history, but it probably depends on ur school!
Hey guys I have a problem. So Im taking a French class online. The school system online sucks and the teachers are terrible. The thing is that I am currently falling behind and the stress is building up. I'm not sure what to do about it. The problem is that the grade is not divided into 4 quarters it is a single grade and it is very hard to catch since everything is weighed in. I need advice and wanted to know the potential consequences of dropping the class.
I’m pretty sure colleges look at course rigor, so AP euro will look better. However, if you’re not trying to go into the history/social science area I think it won’t matter
Im planning doing stem related
Ok it shouldn’t matter much
is ap csa like "easy" without taking ap csp
At your school human geo falls into the history category?
What do you guys think about this course schedule for Junior Year?
ADVANCED PLACEMENT ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND COMPOSITION
AP SPANISH LANGUAGE
ADVANCED PLACEMENT US HISTORY
ADVANCED PLACEMENT MATHEMATICS - CALCULUS BC
AP PHYSICS 1
AP PHYSICS 1
LINEAR ALGEBRA AND DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS
ADVANCED PLACEMENT PSYCHOLOGY
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Yes
Depends on how much you know already
Physics 1 is double period
I have 9 periods in a school day
Yeah thats weird
i want to take classes at my local university but each class is atleast $500, is there anyway for me to lower the cost? Or should I just not take them
I wanted to take some AP classes I wouldn’t be able to fit into school
Whats the $500 for
Just 1 class?
Y not go to cc instead and do it for free?
thats the price at our cc
U said uni
your cc is free?
Yes
Ur school doesnt have special admit?
Also what’s a special admit
ok thanks
it’s just if I take college courses it will not be part of my highschool transcript and I have to submit a college transcript when I apply to universities
so idk what that means
U have a hs and college transcript
ok so it won’t affect my admission negatively?
No
Will my dual enrollment grades be part of my college gpa?
way too much
I'm skeptical about ur ability to rigorously do linalg + diffeqs while being in calc bc...
if thats too much, u dont wanna see my schedule
W
I wanna see can u dm it to me?
💀
Hi
Anyone know what u do in Spanish 1? I didn’t take it in 8th grade or 9th this year I’m taking it 10th
I wanna see it dm me and I will show you mine
It will have a positive effect
So if I am scheduling soon what should I schedule?
focus on the total credits you need to graduate and what colleges required from you
core courses are a must
but also try stay on a path
like if you want to major in computer science
try taking courses along with the core courses relates with computer science
lol yeah mine too
it depends a lot
I reocmmend to take the regular
math
science
social studies
language
english
and then also do Electives
Show me
I dont recommend a study hall because that is a waste of space you could've taken for electives.
Where
Show me
?
Still waiting for an answer
Basics of spanish
Like formation of nouns, verbs, etc
Oh ok
And sentence syntax
I mean
My English class isn't learning how to speak English at this point
But if if urs is then yeah
You learn basic vocab im currently in it so if you have questions I got you
it’s just basic vocab and building sentences you learn verbs, family members, description
and how to conjugate shoe verbs is like the last big thing it’s lowkey so easy don’t stress
Can u send it to me
Y?
Just curious
I’ve taken chemistry and will be taking geometry this summer. What would be the best courses to take from my sophomore to senior years.
for math, h algebra 2, calc ab, then calc bc
if you are really good at math you can do calc bc in 11th itself
by studying some precal/cal over the summer
Alright thank you! What about sciences I’d like to be a doctor. So what would be best?
I’ve already taken bio and these are the only classes they offer
Ok, so as a doctor, definitely chemistry, bio, statistics can help a bit, do the PLTW body systems and medical intervention(PLTW is great), and if u can fit it in then physics
So i wanna be a computer engineer in college and one website said that in the next three years of high school, I have to take AP Calc AB, BC, Chem, Computer Science A, Computer Science Principles, Physics Algebra based 1 & 2, and Stats. Is that true.
the website was the College Board
So i haven’t had a physics class yet but do you think I would be able to skip directly to ap physics c: mechanics
dont recommend it
but u might be fine
i mean i was able to
but
Matters
do you have calc experience?
have you at least done chemistry?
can you manipulate formulas with variables?
more importantly
do u know math or do u understand it
theres a difference
Nope, these are just recommendations. First of all, do one of AB or BC. Second of all, comp sci principles might be too easy for you. and Physics C is good too.
@compact plaza @austere tulip I’m not trying to brag but I’m a hard worker and a pretty good problem solver. I’m taking ap calc ab rn and will prolly take bc next year. I’m also taking ap chemistry this year. I have all As so I think I can do well in it. I’ve also talked to my teacher about people that have done it and they’ve all done well.
How so?
y u doign calc ab if ur doing bc?
ALRIGHT MAN
caps
sorry
but yeah
if u think ur ready then go ahead
Ok yeah that's good
Did u say you’ve done it?
go ahead and do ap physics C
I already took chemistry so would it still be worth it
if u did chemistry then just do anoher pltw
Alright thank you so much!
np
Wait what about anatomy and physiology
Algebra 2 Honors, Physics 1 Honors, AICE Euro History (pm same thing as AP Euro), AICE Lang (same thing as AP Lang) and AICE Global Perspectives (Same thing as AP Research) and Lastly Spanish 2 Honors.
^10th
What about it?
what abt it
if ur asking abt it then its rigorous
id assume at least 2-3 hrs of hw a night
if not more
can someone compare how hard is honors calc bc to the end of this: https://www.exeter.edu/sites/default/files/documents/Math3_2019.pdf
ping me
tysm
i’m in algebra two and it isn’t that hard unless i’m completely misunderstanding it
so
i mean to be fair i like
do math
but it shouldn’t be that hard
is biology a hard class? i'm planning to take it this summer but i'm kinda worried abt the fact that it's like 8 months of material crammed into one month
ap?
Hi I'm taking my school's full IB Diploma next year and it turns out that my physics is a period 0 class meaning that I have the opportunity to pick between either recieving a free period or taking another class. Would it be worth it for me to take another class? If so which of the classes I list out should I take?
My current classes are:
Physics HL (0 period. My school does not offer this at SL)
Maths HL (I must pick between either this or psych HL and tbh I'm not interested in psychology lmao)
English HL (Required)
History HL (Required)
Spanish SL
TOK/AP Gov (both are 1 semester classes over the course of the year. I know I'm missing one more class but I'm most likely going to opt to take it next year).
As it stands, with Physics being a 0 period I can either receive a free period or pick another class. I am currently looking at the following classes that I might be willing to take instead:
1: Sports Medicine SL. This'd be my final IB class and other than maybe film and business (both of which are only offered conditionally and we didn't get enough students to fulfil) that I'm somewhat interested in so far. I would be more interested in taking Chem SL or Bio SL but I'm already taking AP Bio this year and over the summer I'm taking a chem class at my local CC to get my chem credit out of the way to even take the IB lmao
2: AP Computer Sci Principles or A. I'm going to be honest: I am not a fan of computer science much but I also haven't put in that much effort to learn it.
3: Mock Trial: I'm already the president of my MUN club and next year I want to see if I can make it into a class instead of a club, that means that I could be interested in taking Mock Trial as a class. However, the next issue is that this is actually an after school class so I get another free period
4: Leadership: exactly what you imagine. Might be fun idk
depends
nah just regular bio
honestly ive heard very different stories about the difficulty of ap bio at various schools
regular bio maybe
Ull be fine, ive done summer classes and ull be fine
it might be challenging over the summer
the major issue with Bio is the fact that there's no standardized curriculum so if you don't immediately grasp it you can get a bit fucked
Shrink this and then ill read it
but im sure you can manage with enough grit
It's just explaining the classes I have and whether or not I should take a free period or if I should take another class
Just be good at memorizing and ur fone
Yeye
ok i got all the info out of it that i need
All im gonna say is to take all the opportunities u have
um
hmm
@ripe geyser what do u want to major in
personally id say ur best choice is Leadership
but honestly
I mean I'm taking a 4 HL IB Diploma lmao
Double Major either with Physics and Business or Mathematics and Business
whichever I can get my hands on first, no particular preference
CS might be good for job potential
hmm
Issue: I fucking hate CS
oh
Well I don't
but I don't like it much
MOre cause I realized I never actually put any proper effort into learning it
So it could be like Physics where I think I hate it but I actually like it when I do it
I could do food service
if its not required its kind of a waste of time in a way
Thats useless
Unless ur learning on how to make food, dont so it
I think it's a mixture between teaching tourism, and cooking
Literally all of my options are useless
leadership is useless???
Then find something
I mean
damn man
I already display good leadership
Which is?
yeah but why miss out on getting better
mfer I own a company and run a couple of clubs, I'm not sure what else I could do to show that I'm a good leader
lmao
I'm more interested in leadership cause the people there look fun
What kinda company
Record Label
oh nice
It is not nice
ive never had the opportunity to run a business
I loose more money than I make
My leadership stuff sucks
or really tried to bc i dont wanna entrepeneur
mines pretty good
tbh 50% it'll fall on you
Mines only TA, pres of link crew and tutoring
Like I started a label because some dude on my snapchat feed said that he was struggling with finding a manager and I said I could do it for him 💀
shit worked
Either way
and im trying to get a club kickstarted
lmao nice
I don't really actually have a proper reason to join leadership besides: people there look funi
Gl on that, whats it?
to give context
the principal of my school wanted to make a team for a quiz show thing happening in my region
and its going well
and i found out i enjoy that kind of stuff
like game shows
so im trying to basically get a quiz comp team up
Whats the club name?
idk yet
but right now my main goal is to get people to do The Knowledge Bowl and Science Olympiad
and maybe some more stuff if i can find it
Like an aca-deca?
and the quiz show thing i was talking about
no idea what that is
academic-decathalon
Im struggling on the link crew lol, cuz im starting from stratch, do u have any tips to help this process?
no idea what that is
it's like 5 quizes or something on different subjects
so like 1 math, 1 history, and the rest I forgor
its more just completely random questions
and we go against other schools
so like
tf is link crew?
Link crew?
Oh, yall never heard of it?
No
guys i need help with choosing a course
that sounds like white people shit
oh wait
isn't it a community service club/
I think I saw some kids in my neighborhood wearing some words that said they were link crew
i'm currently in 10th grade and i'm forecasting for the courses i'm doing in 11th, and i have to take a history class
isn't it like helping the middle schoolers transition into high school?
It’s basically a bridge from middle school to hs, cuz i almost failed 2 classes my freshman yr
Yes
What classes do you currently have
we could be asked "What empire invaded the Polish region in 1672?" and then right after "What is name for the tendency of an atom to attract electrons toward itself, Fluorine having the most of this property?"
Whos gonna know that???
i do
Respectfully: this sounds like a terrible show
should i do apush or regular us history
Ottoman Empire + Electronegativity
APUSH
never take regular history classes
i mean its a quiz show
but i want to pursue cs
unironically: normal history classes are significantly more difficult than AP history
and then the school answers
and i have more time to study for competitions, etc
Do u think link crew is a bad idea?
Doesn't matter, AP History is way more easy
No, you have less time
but its way more time consuming
I'm being genuine here: it's not
at least at my school
You spend like 8 hours a month at most
you do a ton of dbqs
I'm telling you this right now:
never do a regular history class
that shit fucks you up
that's normal
theres also random geography, pop culture, literature, cultural, language, etc questions
it depends
Normal history goes into wayyyyy too much detail about shit
after freshman year ive always done AP history
bro taking a test thats almost equivalent to a final exam every other week sounds hella stressful tho
and also normal history is not standardized so if there's a subject you don't understand (you most likely won't) you'll be fucked cause there's no resources online to help you out
oh yeah thats true
No you're confused
ALl tests are about 10% of your grade
i mean final grade
so the average of your tests contributes to 10% of your total grade
Meh
that goes for all classes
Yeah I"m telling you this right now: just take APUSH
yeah but for other classes you have hw assignments
to make it up
hw isnt worth anything in apush
regular history classes are so unnecessarily difficult
That's so messed up
i got a spot, im just wondering whether to take it or not
^
each individual test?
just take it
if its total 10% thats nothing
it's significantly easier
I think in this dude's case he gets like 10 assignments throughout the year
You'll have plenty of it
im a history buff so difficulty isnt that much of a problem
plus all my friends are doing it
I have a copy of the AP World History book
the entirety of World War II is covered in 6 pages
fr?
yeye
damn
im surprised its not 6 chapters 😂
There's a total of 11 chapters in AP World
3 for 1200-1450, 2 for 1450-1750, 3 for 1750-1900, 3 for 1900 to modern iirc
each chapter is about 50 pages
so 550 pages for a text book
sounds like a lot, it's not
especially cause most time periods can be broken up into:
1 section on the economy
1 section on international relations
1 section on misc information that's somewhat important
so in 1200-1450 that bonus section is related to like international borders and shit
but for 1900 to modern that section is solely on the cold war
either way
that's for AP world
which iirc is a bit more difficult than APUSH
so you'll be fine
(genuinely always try to get out of taking a standard or honors level history class. If you can always go for AP level or just an entirely different social science lmao)
thank you so much @ripe geyser
for your advice
yeah i think taking apush is the better move here
I'm sort of asking about rigor but I wanna know if that's a good schedule for a 10th grader
that matters on ur textbook
Strayer has 15 chapters
Ap has 9 Units
Meh, it's just to give an example
I think it's actually just split up into like 4 units or smth like that
and different books have different ways of splitting up those units
but generally, you'll be learning the same content regardless of textbook
The same cannot be said for regular/college prep level classes
Can anyone tell me their experience with AP Computer Science A? Such as difficultly, course load (work) ect.?
My friend takes it
the homework is optional
u have to study for the tests because it's all about analyzing cases and being able to write code(mcqs and frqs)
It isn't too hard an ap class
Is it possible to take it without first taking CSP?
Would taking CSA with very little coding history be too bad?
these are the lowest classes I can take next year. So I can’t not take AP Calc next year or Jr Year.
can always take higher
Tell me if this is a horrible or a fantastic idea for my high school math career
9th geometry and algebra 2 (honor)
Summer of 9 precalc
10 ap stats
Summer of 10 ap calc BC
11 calc 2
Summer of 11 calc 3
And then what would I do for my senior year? My school allows you to take classes at the local University during the school year if you have exhausted the entire list for a certain area. That is how I can do calc 2 over 11th grade
What should I do for senior year
Heads up I'm going into physics
That’s a bad idea
How so
You’re going through too much math too quickly
How would that be an issue?
Because it won’t actually help you in the long run
You’re going to have to go through those classes in college
Just spread it out over normal high school
You shouldn’t be past algebra II as it makes placement in college a nightmare
How many math classes do you have to take to get an associates in physics?
An associates?
As in like community college?
Algebra II
So I can't even do ap calc in like my senior year?
For a bachelors programme then be done with AP Calc
Yea
If you want do it
It’ll still help
But beyond calc 1 is useless in HS
Especially since you’re taking Summer School which is generally a bad idea
Cuz I could do something like
9 geometry
10 algebra 2
Summer of 10 precalc
11 AP stat
12 AP calc
Unless you have an actual valid reason to do it
For fun
Algebra II goes over precalc
If that's the case then sweet I can spend my summer hanging out with friends
So would this schedule be better
Minus the summer precalculus
Here’s what you should do:
Geometry 9th
Alg. II and Trig 10th (they’re often in the same class)
Calc AB or BC
Stats
My school puts them into one class
For community college, calc AB is more than enough
Probably going to do BC cuz I do plan on going to an actual University I just wanted to get an associates in high school to speed up joining the workforce
Ok
If that’s the case then do summer classes at CC instead
If you spend all of your summers starting in 8th grade going to CC then you’ll get a degree by the time you get out
I'm in 8th grade right now luckily
But note: if you go to the workforce too early it’s suspicious
I mean I plan on getting a master's I'm just skipping 2 years
A lot of people get suspicious of extremely young people with bachelors, especially in a field as technical as physics
That’s worse 💀
Now you’re 4 years younger than the average person with your degree lol
Breathe dude
You’re fine
Okay
You don’t need to worry about accelerating your education unless you’re trying to get into research
I mean I do plan on going into research
Then yeah you’d probably want to accelerate as much as possible so you can become a postgrad
My masters is a minimum but I plan on getting a PhD
I still wouldn’t encourage it lmao
Why?
Fair enough
Because it sounds interesting
Horrible reason
And that’s coming from a person with a horrible reason to be interested in physics
I enjoy researching things and my dad also get a PhD and after looking at his papers and his PhD life and everything it just looks to be something idealistic
Also I love physics it is so interesting
Nerds debating over each other on which nerd from 300 years ago was right
Either way
Generally, you’re fine
Ok
If you REALLY want to, make it something you do over the school year as well
A lot of CCs let kids do both HS and CC as part time CC students
Like me lol
That's what a kid I know is doing he's a senior in high school and he's graduating with an associates in CS
It’s the most normal@option to take and if you do that along with regular HS you’ll get a degree by summer of junior year
Generally: summer of Junior year should be spent on working on apps and shit
Don’t do CC during the summer or the actual senior year
Ok
Is an associates in physics even worth it?
Absolutely not
Hell realistically not even a bachelors is worth it, the worth of a physics degree will come from a masters
nope
yeah
As a bio major, would it be better to take AP comp gov/AP macroEcon or AP gov/reg Econ?
I mean for any major it'd be better to go with the first due to course rigor
I’m already planning on taking AP Art History, AP lit, AP Calc and/or AP stats, and that would be my last
I have a feeling that AP Econ wouldn't be way harder than regular econ
Maybe look into the difficulty comparison
And decide from there
Ik that reg Econ is a unit and the whole year is pretty much AP gov
is APUSH hard? harder than AP psych? im in AP psych rn & its my first AP im experiencing. i have an A in the class so far (but i wont deny i had to put in the effort to be where im at)
Yeah apush is hard
i also love learning psych so that makes it easier, but idk about us history ☠️ that doesn't really interest me
how so? is it a lot of memorization
It's a class where u just have to straight up put a lot of effort in
Remembering the flow of all of US history
Nuances, ideas, movements
Economics, war, politics
How much more rigorous would my schedule look like if I replaced AP Envi Sci with AP BIO ?
Similar
So it wouldn’t make a difference …
Probably not
Yes
Should I drop game design for Honors ASL 4?
Anyone here doing the IB diploma or taking IB classes?
is AP world better or AP comp sci principles? planning to go with the med track.. & they aren't really related, but which one would be more beneficial for maybe like developing skills in the long run?
ap computer science
ap world
is better for
writing skills and ap history classes
if ur planning on ap euro or apush, take ap world
if ur planning on a tech or computer related major
then ap csp
@bold radish
is Ap World or Psych worth it for Freshman year?
uh idk our school doesnt offer psych until upperclassman years
i took honors world
but both are aps so
depends on ur interests
ye so I want to focus on like stem things but at the same time it seems like AP World is like really interesting with the credit and all and also I'm already good at like world history so idk
that's what i was thinking but im also taking AP gov next yr so AP gov and AP world? idk if 2 social studies courses r all that good
ok then ap psych is fine then
what grade ru
9th
yea
lucky
well if u dont like social studies then dont take 2 in a year
ap gov/econ is a senior year class for us
alright tysm!
ap comp sci it is then i suppose
👍
does anyone have any tips
im not sure if i should take regular chem for freshman yr or if i should take ap physics
if i take reg chem then i can do AP Chem or AP bio next yr
You should probably take regular chem
just because ap physics is hard, especially as a freshman ap
oh alr
i mean if you're good at math ... it's not thatt bad but still
yeah i mean
im gonna be in
AP Calc AB
for freshman yr
so i think ill be fine on the math part
reg
Hey, you guys think its worth taking a cybersecurity class next year in 12th grade if I'm planning on doing something maybe comp sci related down the road?
yes
alr alr
Should I choose every AP class I get to pick? Currently there's
APWH, APUSH, AP Lang, AP Literature, AP environmental science, AP Physics, AP Seminar, I think there's more, but should I do all of them? I feel like I can do it knowing that I managed my strong GPA this year.
Yeah most of those are pretty easy too
AP seminar and AP lang might be hard
AP Physics will be too
yeah but to manage it with environmental science won't be that bad
I think I'll manage. They do seem hard yeah.
