#course-selection

The tests I've been given are all like word problems. You get the data then plug it into the formulas. (It's all written responce)
The things with the problems though is that it's not all plug and chug. You have to read the questions and do every little part. There will be little tricks in the problem which may require you to do more work to solve the question.
Yeah, no problem man! good luck with it!
Imo, if you have to choose between math and physics...I'd say to pick math. Math is like everywhere and every time needed. I think you can study physics in uni as long as you perform your math excellently. If you do really well in math, it's like you already have the freedom to take any course related in the math field in the future. Idk if that made any sense. But yeah 😅
Is it just physics that your program recommends?
Hi guys. I am currently making my A-level course choices. I am having trouble deciding whether my 4th course should be Chemistry or Economics. Any advice? (preferably based on course difficulty)
My school is moving to a 4x4 schedule, and I was wondering if I should take AP HUG if I only have one semester for it.
Chemistry is harder than Economics. Well, for me though because I'm currently doing Chemistry in high school. And I did economics before as well.
Chem is hard
What are some good electives for freshman year
People usually save electives for later years since in the later years u have SAT or ACT and u have to look for college applications if you are going to college. I would recommend focusing on electives in the later years but it's your wish if u have nothing else
My official 10th grade schedule
English 2
Earth/space science
Digital information technology (elective)
World history
Geometry
Spanish 1 (elective)
What do u guys think
I’m taking Spanish 1 10th grade cause I didn’t do it this year and last year as an 8th grader
Go for calc, because precalc is more high schol level and there wouldn't really be a point of doing it at community college.
and yes
precalc is basiclaly just alg ii and trig
it just touches more tough concepts iin them
I recommend at least one ap
if u can
Hmm I see, thank you so much!
thanks for your advice, so far im deciding to take calculus and vectors as well since it's like a prerequisite for all the programs i wanna get into
nope, but for 2 of the programs i wanna get in, physics are recommended for one, and needed for the other one.. but beisdes that, i need to take english, chemistry, recommended physics and calculus
Is biology honors or physics honors easier to get good grades in for 9th grade
Nah
Ima start doing it junior year
Plus you can still get into college witnout even taking an ap
Lol
Probably honors bio? That’s what most freshmen take
Here is my schedule for next year
which classes do you think will be the hardest?
English Honors 2
AP precalculus
Honors Chem
Cambridge AS Design and Tech.
Empowering Entrepreneurs Honors
Spanish 2
NJROTC 2
wait ap precalc is actually a thing now?
youve got to be kidding me
Yes starting next year
ok well then im in precalc honors rn, and id say that it is the hardest class for students in my grade
i personally dont struggle with it, but if your not a complex math thinker then id say that class may be hard for you
idk if ap precalc will be harder than honors precalc
also honors chem tends to be a hard one for students bc its your introduction to a math-based science
for me, that we my hardest class last year
but yeah gl!!
Nice pfp lol
mmm do you know who he is?
not sure but someone from NCT?
ohh
nice to meet u my fellow kpopper!
nice to meet you too!
out of curiosity, who do u stan?
any group
ayyy
noice
lol sorry I stan a lot of groups
no i love multistans!
you mind dming?
sure! ofc
i think ppl would be annoyed if we talked unrelated stuff here
yeah
Any seniors in the house? If so, may I please speak with you regarding courses as I’m a current junior who just selected courses? I want to talk about my courses in consideration of them being during my app year (senior year)
The classes thats gonna be the hardest is what u struggle on the most
i go to an ib school... what HLs should i take if i wanna study chemical engineering in uni?
is it possible to do Math, Chem, Bio HL and still apply to chemical engineering?
yeah that should be good
also do physics
cuz it goes well with engineering
I think based on your teacher English 2 Honors could be the hardest. Most likely it's based on what subject u struggle with. Honors chem could be difficult.
it isn't ap precalc is the level of honors precalc
im looking for some advice here, i have to finalize my senior year schedule in a couple of days and i have a bunch of things that i want to take to the point where people are telling me to scale back, if someone responds here ill give my list
hey! I was wondering if someone could help me out: I am choosing classes for next year and I am not sure if I should take honors chemistry or not. Next year I am taking: AP Euro, Honors English 2, Honors Algebra 2, Volleyball and Culinary. I took honors biology this year, and stuggled a bit, but I only took one other honors class.
I think you can fit honors chem into there. English and algebra shouldn’t be bad (depends on teacher) but honors chem (which I’ll say is hard) would be the hardest class from your list
Good
I think u should go with honors chemistry
it introduces u to math based science
it's a bit more different than biology and u might like it!
I honestly recommend spanish because latin is a dead language, and even though it might help in some way spanish will def be more helpful in the us compared to latin
guys is apush too hard for someone who has never taken an ap or honors class before? i find world history easy but i think my teacher is just easy cause she makes good notes which are direct questions on tests
Matters on the teacher for APUSH
My schedule would be
Alg2/Trig (Non-Accel)
APUSH
Physics
Digital Video Arts
Spanish 3
Hon English
would that be a big step up after only taking regular cp classes
Nope that's fine
Since everything else is regular
apush will be difficult
but if u put effor
u can definitely ddo it
SAQ should be fine
LEQs and DBQs will take practice
along with mcqs
because for those three tests
types of questions*
it's skills base
I mean my grades are all As and ive maintained a 4.0 but im a bit scared jumping straight in cause i believed my previous teachers were too easy and i actually thought 8th grade was harder
so is this scheduule for 9th grade?
no 11th
oh
no then this is fine
I think u can handle it
in fact I would recommend to see if u can do AP physics as well
this is junior year
dont meet the prerequisite
it is usually the hardest year for most people
i guess im just scared of getting a B but i guess its inevitable and i need to challenge myself
I wouldnt do that
I’m definitely gonna fix my study habits because i think its a miracle i still have As
No I think you're over worrying
I also did this
AP physics is the hardest physics and if u put that on top of ur alr hard junior yr, ull be suffering, do an easier ap science junior and ap physics senior to balance out the work load
But there's AP physics 1,2 and AP Physics C
there's two physics to do
also in terms of difficulty, Ap physics 1 has low passing rates, AP physics C is the hardest physics
Idk, for us its just 1
taking physics c without taking physics 1 here
its possible but its kinda difficult
I just find my classes easy so i always do hw at 9 and study last minute but i always get As
yeah u will have to fix that but you'll adapt to it
dont worry
both 1 and 2?
oof
we seperate 1 and 2, and mechanics and e&m for c
yeah at our school we can do 1 or we can do 1 &2
and for C they just call it C
have you already taken physics 1&2?
our school just pairs similar classes together
and i cant choose
physics 1 by itself is quite a bit
and if they release an ap world ancient, they'll just mix it with modern and make it ap world
yeah
but one semester is longer than u think
cuz they don't have an honors physics at our schol
kids who want to take "honors" physics take Physics 1
kids who want to take "AP" physics take Physics 1 and 2
interesting
Ok if anything ill probably drop honors english if the workload is too much cause that has the worst reputation at my school
Hi! I’ll be starting my junior year of high school in a few months, I want to go to a business school and while most of them don’t have subject requirements, a lot of them talk about wanting students with a good base in mathematics.
I won’t be continuing with math after my sophomore year, my friends suggested taking AP Calc AB to make up for it but I’m not sure if that’ll be useful. Could someone help me out?
my course cards came in for 7th grade should i take 7th accelerated or algebra 1 honors?
ok idk anything about business but calc is an extremely important class, but idk how important it is for business. in general, if you're not going to take any more years of math you should at least take calc
uh, depends on how high your high school offers math, but either is fine. i'd say it's worth taking algebra 1 7th grade if you can, tho
ok tysm
ok so im choosing classes for 10th grade, and I'm thinking about
- AP calc AB
- Eng 2 honors
- chem honors
- AP World History
- AP CompSci A
- French 4
but like im lowkey scared I won't have time to sleep 10th grade year. Is there anyone who applied for something simillar and can tell me if this courseload is worth it?
has anyone taken genocide? my counselor is recommending me to take that cause i have a blank spot in my course selection for my senior year.. its a semesters course
is a p french worth it
I believe so, depends on your level in french though.
Like beginner, intermediate, or advanced.
French for me is easy and I think its good to get my gpa up
Then go for it.
.
im going into my freshman year this fall and im in the process of deciding which courses i want to take; how do these sound?
adv math
adv english
ap human geography
chemistry (i plan to take bio over the summer)
art 1-2 (my school requires at least one year of a visual/performing art)
spanish 3-4
tennis (hopefully, if i can make tryouts)
hi i need advice for my classes next year!! so im going into my sophomore year next year and i want to take AP physics C. Is it worth taking?
Tysm!!
Tysm!
I personally wouldnt do that
Algebra 1 for sure
ok ty
i’d say definitely take calc ab and bc if you can
because colleges like 4 years of math
is ap human geo a thing-
No ig
i've never heard of it 😔
my school doesn't allow summer school unless you fail so i'm taking double science honors during the school year
there's really nothing i can do to make it better bc aphug is the only available ap for freshmen at my hs and i'm already taking all of the possible summer courses
yeah its supposed to be pretty easy so thats prob why its the only ap 9th graders can take at my school lol
iccic
at my school they made the two year apush into a one year course
so taking two years of info and cramming it all into one
Oh
dunno about you but a new unit every week and a test every week doesnt sound very fun
you're lucky you can take ap's as a freshman
i'm taking like 11 entire hs career
it isnt offered at my school D:
doubling up with ap phys c and ap chem junior
are you gonne be an engineer?
doesnt change a whole lot, colleges will know its an easy ap and wont take it into account much more than, say, a difficult honor class such as organic chemistry
In my schl theres no such thing as ap 💀
true
ohhh icic
i would've taken ap chem senior but i can't
wait why?
ic
actually
i can swap ap chem and ap stats
oh wait i should just do that
tahnk you
wait
no
nvm
i remember why again
w a t
my chem teacher (honors chem) loves me rn
and i wanna get a recc from her
but if i take ap chem senior
she might not remmeber me by the time college apps come around
liek ykwim?/
well it kinda depends on what field you wanna go into
if you wanna go into the medical field, just take ap chem as itll matter much more than the reccomendation
but i do get what youre saying
we have to take honors before ap here
just off that they have the upper hand
same at my school
im pretty sure if you want to major in medicine they require chemistry as part of the graduation requirement
eh its really your choice tho
but if you take it in hs as an ap and pass the exam you dont have to take it during college
i actually don't want to major in med, i just want to take it bc its eems interesting
imo id take ap chem and get the teacher to really like me and just get a good recc from them
i also heard that chemistry in college is HELL and even tho ap chem sucks its better to just take it in hs
and i like the teacher
oh i see
also, i'm like 90% sure that ap's are practically useless for top colleges
bro im taking ap chem and then organic chem 😭
it only really matters if you were to get like
uhhh idk if thats true cause having a weighted gpa of like 4.5 definitely helps
no like
i mean in terms of actual creditse
obvi gpa bonus
but you were talking about how you can take it in hs to avoid it in college
it depends on what you want to major in
but if you want to go to like top schools, then it won't really matter either way bc they probably won't accet
if you're going to major in business it doesn't matter if you get a 5 on the ap bio test
i was talking more so how it gives you an upper hand when colleges compare you to other students
sure, colleges say they dont compare but it does happen
^^^
if you want to major in bio, go to a top school, and get a 5 on the ap bio test, it doesn't matter that much either
oh
ic
most TOP colleges will not accept credits
i think they accept it but theres a limit
like if you wanna go to state flagship
or comm
then sure
but idk about top college
like i remember reading smth about how some ivy leagues only accept credit for like 4 aps
yea but it helps your chances with getting into the colleges
but like evn if they accept
bc you can write
there's a really large limit
yea yea
yupp
i suppose aps help you get into top colleges but not so much when you're actually at the school
yup
mhm
oh, why not?
Here is some advice for y'all freshman:
Take a well-rounded curriculum: You want to make sure you are taking a variety of subjects that will challenge you academically and allow you to explore different areas of interest. This typically includes core subjects like English, math, science, and social studies, as well as elective courses like art, music, or foreign languages.
Consider your interests and goals: Think about what you want to study in college and what kind of career you are interested in pursuing. This can help you choose courses that will give you the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in those areas.
Talk to your guidance counselor: Your guidance counselor can help you choose courses that are appropriate for your skill level and interests, and that will help you meet graduation requirements.
Challenge yourself: Don't be afraid to take advanced courses or honors classes if you feel ready for them. These courses can help you prepare for college and demonstrate to admissions officers that you are a motivated and high-achieving student.
Keep your long-term goals in mind: Remember that the courses you take in high school can have a big impact on your future academic and career opportunities. Be thoughtful about your choices and make sure you are setting yourself up for success.
Its not the most time useful
it would be a lot of time? sorry I am confused haha
i'd especially agree with the second and third ones
too many people think about like 'oh i gotta do this or that for college'
you have to play to your interests as well as your strengths
bc showing passion in something gives an applicaion depth and strength
even if it's something you think is a waste of time
and for the third one, idk if its' like that for everyone, but here, the guidance counselor has to write a recommendation letter for you
and...well.. guidance counselors have a lot of kids.
if you can stand out to them, you're sure to get a better letter
and in higher colleges, essays and rec letters are what set you apart
so make sure you have a good relationship with your teachers and counselors
No
Its just its a very inefficient way to use ur time
What experience do u have?
I meant like what are ur achievements
What r ur experiences to say this stuff? Like r u part of something big?
So u dont have experience
Experience to be able to say this
Then I wouldn’t say stuff if u dont have experience 1st hand
Emailing aint gonna do anything
U need to talk irl
Thats not the way to go
U need to be on her good side and talk to her during lunch if they have lunch duty
For me, i dont need to make appointments, my councler talkes me when i want cuz im on his good side
Y does that matter?
Ok?
Im in California
Mabey cuz ur not as big of an asset to ur school
Sure, ur book smart but everyone else is book smart too, what did u do that makes u unique in ur school community? for me it was my scholarship, i got a scholarship in music and was known thru our school’s insta page, also im the founder of link crew at our school
U dont, its just something that makes u unique to ur school so that u can get extra stuff then everyone else
Ion?
So ur saying u dont have time for ecs??? I highly doubt that
Same
I have class from 7am-8:30pm
Stop complaining lol
….
Cali be super expensive like $7/gal for gas
No i dont
Then make the best with ur situation
Good
??
Is this some sort of competition?? Lmao
U dont need to be rich
U just need to be smart + creative
With just that u can achieve greatness
And tbh… since u said that ur part of the top 10%, I believe that u will achieve greatness
Being rich is only an accessory
should I take AP computer science next year or STEM capstone?
I took CS1 last year and I'm taking CS2 this year
the programming pathway has no level 1, so I have already completed levels 2 and 3.
plz let me know. I think I know what I want to do but I am open to suggestions
there are two ap computer science
which one do you want to take?
AP Computer Science A or AP Computer Science Principle
A is the only one offered at my school
ah
AP Computer Science A is an AP course that focuses on the Java programming language itself.
that's basically the description of apcsa summarized
i mean
if you want to learn about the java programming language, go to apcsa
apcsp is more of understanding the concept of coding
I will also be a junior next year
so which should I do? apcsa or stem capstone?
I have been told that capstone is over python
i never heard of stem capstone
maybe its practicum
if either of the courses is focused on one language, do your research
ok
and see what coding languages fits your future
if you want to do data analysis, go for one with python
and vice versa
I like java over python and I just want to do general IT work for the military after my 4 year degree in buisness and IT
then take apcsa
plus, you can gain college credit if you did well on your ap exam
Hey, Im looking to do Civil Engineering as a Job, what subjects would i need to do in order to get this?
Calc, physics, the comp scis and maybe apes, maybe even human geo
Sweet thank you so much
Just realized that you’re from Oceania, are there APs there?
Sorry what's an ap again?
I guess it’s just the us and Canada
It’s a college level course high schoolers can take to get college credit
Oh alright
But by apes I mean environmental science
Then probably not
Oh environmental science
My school doesn't do that sadly
Everything else it does though
Colleges will know that so you’re fine
👍
Oh alright cool. Thanks a ton
My school doesn't offer any APs and so we have to self study and give the exam at a different test centre. So if I'm not taking math after 10th grade and I'm giving AP Calc AB instead, will that make up for not taking math? Cause I'll have to self study for it and it won't show up on my HS transcript?
well
i’m good at speaking and i like business
so i got to fbla nationals
i like to play badminton and i’m good at leadership ish stuff
i made a club and started a nonprofit
stuff like that
bc if you aren’t actually interested in whatever you’re doing, it’s going to hold you back- it’s quite obvious if you think about it
because subconsciously, you’re not going to LIKE what you’re doing, and thus, it becomes a barrier from you being able to do something truly excellent in that field
Yeah I think that should make up, given that you get a good score on the exam
Should I take AP Chinese even tho I know Chinese already
I’ve already chosen my classes, but I wanted to see what you guys would say. I was having a hard time picking between AP Chem and Physics Honors for Junior year. I was hoping to take AP Physics senior year if I put a ton of work in, though it seems I’d have to take Honors as a prerequisite.
nah just take the test
at most schools, honors isn’t a prereq for ap, but it depends on your major
In sophomore year so I still have time, but chemical engineering has piqued my interest.
then ap chem for sure
because it’s directly related, and while physics is also related, you can still take it senior
the reason i’m saying ap chem is bc colleges will see you liking chem enough (demonstrated interest) plus gpa boost compared to honors physics
so you get both compared to one
obviously do what you want bc it’s ultimately up to you, but imo, ap chem is the way to go
also, see if you can double up with ap chem and honors physics
because that helps
it’s possible here at least
thoughts on taking AP Physics with AP US History with Honors Chem in 10th grade?
with Honors Alg2 with trig
should be doable if you have good time management
oh my school has the same
you normally need a year of chem/physics to take the ap, don't you?
yeah, should be fine
also with French 3
thanks
but taking chem or physics really depends on what you wanna major in
here, you need an year of chem before ap chem but not an year of physics before ap physics
same ^
oh that's nice
my school doesn't have that 😭
does your school offer organic chem?
i wish my school offered organic chem
yeah
but it’s a jun/sen class i think
it's a good class if you're looking to major in like med
Im thinking of doing AP Calc BC , AP lit and AP micro Econ for senior year i think calc will be hard but im pretty good at math so it should be helpful for that and econ
im currently taking calc foundations right now so it gives me a decent amount of prep
just wondering how much this will help for college
yeah
hey anybody whos taken ap spanish lang and culture! I was wondering if I would be far behind if I only have taken gifted span 1 and gifted span 2. Thanks!
thanks!
Would it be better for me to take ap bio, apush and ap English lang for junior year or would that be too excessive
AP Physics is pretty hard because you need to think critically, im taking it right now with a terrible teacher and it sucks, but if you are doing well in math and want to learn go for it there is a lot to learn
thanks for your input, I'm aware of the rigor and like the pass rate is 50% or something but I'm committed into learning it
have you taken any previous ap classes?
Yes ap human geography
yeah np
how'd ya do in that, u struggle in it?
No quite easy but that's just me since the teacher sucks but have an A in that class
apush is one of the most tedious and hardest classes so you really gotta be dedicated
you can do all of it but you just need to have good time management
Okay then
just make sure to do your assignments and try not to lose motivation
i wouldnt have to do community college if i actually tried in hs 😭
just do ur best, freshman year aint that hard
make sure u have good time management! I'm a freshman rn and you get a lot more work so make you can prioritize
😭
bruh I swear the best thing I've learned this year
is how to do my hw while teacher checking it bruh
💀
should i take AP human geo next year
i kinda suck at geography, but it’s an AP class sooo 🤷🏽♀️
ap comp sci a or comp sci principles?
ty 🙏🏽
yea comp sci principles is ez
It’s so easy
Take comp Sci principles and environmental science too
frrr
Do u still get credit if u don’t take the course
yes
if i had a seal of biliteracy, could I get college credit from that instead of the AP test?
no
in my state atleast, yes
my teacher actually says they prefer seal over the AP test bc its so hard
seal of biliteracy is just an award saying that u did 4yrs of a language
no this is from the test
ah, here its a test
on another note, has anyone been a TA for someone, and is it worth it or should i just take another class?
yes im a ta
is it worthwhile to do it?
for ta, all u rlly do is grade papers once a while and the rest of the time u can do whatever
idk, thats a question u need to answer, but i can tell u what i do
do you find it worthwhile?
wdym by that
that would be a better way to phrase it
like
would it be better to do that or to take another class
in your opinion*
for me, im doing ta because its either ta or pe at 7am, for me i find it worthwhile cuz im not outside in the freezing cold at 7am. but i would never do ta to replace another class
alr, thanks
just also out of curiosity, have you taken ap micro, ap physics 2 or ap world?
no
do you have to take 2 or can you take C?
also, what do you want to major in?
im already taking C mechanics but C e&m doesnt run so if i want to progress in physics ill have to take 2
and comp sci
i don't think it's worthwhile to take 2 after you take C
obviously each school is different
but imo there's not really that much of a point
id take e&m but its not running
if you wanna take e&m there are online courses you can do
for credit
here at least there are
and it gets listed on your transcript
you could talk to your counselor about that
yeah we dont have that option
there isn't too too much of a point- obviously it'll help, but not really necessary
what're you majoring in?
comp sci
best ap micro offers is the consumer ed requirement being written off, and world because i like history a bit
yeah im considering it because i have an interest in history, but not enough to major in it
unless you're required to take world history and you haven't already, i think micro would be better than world tbh because math is still related to comp sci
But phys 2 is also an option then
i think i would take micro if i were you, but my school is different
i can also do consumer ed in the summer, they do an online course there and i can knock it out in like 2 weeks
¯_(ツ)_/¯
phys 2 almost never runs here anyway so that's another thing
can you not take more than one ?
wdym by that
summer courses?
nah
welp
unless i let go of calc 3
i think just take micro, but look at the curriculums @ your school for phys 2 and see if you know most of the stuff alr or not
bc if you know most of it there's no point
yes it'd be free but colleges will know that as you've alr taken C
mirco or take consumer ed in the summer
id only do micro bc it fulfills the req
yeah
no interest in econ?
nah
alr
i don't think taking physics 2 would really help you
and if you don't like econ at all just take ap world yeah
gl
np
@wise forge noticed your pinned message, any advice?
tldr i can choose between ap micro, world, and physics 2, as a planned comp sci major
i was planning for the class to be more of an 'interest' class hence why world is here
and micro fulfills a req (which i can also do in the summer) so thats why its here
if you want i can also provide what next year is looking like schedule wise
pls do
those are like
completely different courses
gym
band
ap stats
calc 3
internship
ap german
open slot
and the open slot is where 1 of those 3 are going to go
yeah ik but i dont want a free period/study hall bc its fr a gamble on when you get it
ap physics would prob be best to get a science, but the physics 2 test doesn’t give credit for a BS usually, and rarely for a BA.
physics 2 is closest to comp sci but im already taking ap C mechanics
(cant take e&m since it doesnt run here)
alr
bc it’s a lower level class
i’d recomendable econ then bc ap world is typically a freshman/sophomore class
here its a senior level class, if thats the only reason
they do aphug freshman year, then us gov, then apush
and micro is basically to fulfil a req
yeah ik
still would recommend econ
alr
i dont mind difficulty
im taking calc 3 and stats senior year 😭
ig micro would be better since it fulfills that req
Should I take gr 11 physics or biology
Depends on what you want to study in college. Bio is more on the medical side I would say and physics bends more towards engineering
alr well imma submit micro
thanks for the help
AP World History would look better on your transcript.
What classes r u taking rn and whats ur grades
All A+'s and 1 B in ELA
What classes
What grade r u?
Ull be fine
and my math course is honours geometry
next year either taking honours alg2 with trig
or precalc
Ok?
So whats ur question
For what
No
AP World
It’s easy
The only problem is that the content is just so boring
Hey guys im in gr 10 and im choosing my gr 11 courses rn
Im tryna do something in business for uni
Any courses you recommend?
business classes
Ye ye
My list is:
English
Gr 11 Functions
Gr 12 advanced functions
Gr 12 accounting
French immersion
Psychology and anthropology (in french)
Physics
For the last one should i do a science course or another business course
Or leave advanced functions for next year
u want me to tell u what i think?
And do both the sci and business course
Yep
i think ur not using ur time wisely
Wym
Like I shouldn’t be asking u?
Or asking anyone for that matter?
u have ur summer and after school, ur not gonna use any of that time?
My school doesnt allow after school courses
And as for summer, i have plans
like?
Cadets summer camps and a trip
thats it?
Yeah…i mean for the 1st month, since my school only allows summer school for the first month and a half of the summer break
Ill definitely do some useful stuff for the second half of my summer
I have a big choice for my grade 10 year. I can do a program called PLP (which I’ve been in for 2 years) and it has iPad learning and more engaging work for me, but a higher workload. I’m scared that my reason for leaving it would be because I’m trying to get out of more work but I would have an easier time in mainstream education. I nee help
What does plp stand for
whats in ap chem and ap environmental science and which should i just choose to finish off my senior year
between ap chem, ap physics, ap envir, or ap bio
Apes is dumb
What classes should i take as a freshman to get into a good uni also do i need prep for those classes
Apes is a free ap cred tho
Like what honors and stuff and so i need prep for honors classes
What college u tryna go to
Honestly idk im reaching for an ivy but its prolly not gonna happen
But i rlly want a good school
Like davis or yale or stanford
I mean im goin to school that has overall 60somethin % acceptance
but like 26% For direct admit
Ivys arent the only good schools
But its good to have a goal to try and get into one
Yea i need to start thinking of a career and a uni that has good programs for that career
Ik i need to get specific but for rn i just wanna shoot high
Be a overachiever yk
Fair
Apes is like food chains and energy consumption
I wanna take over wall street so we all have big hopes and dreams
Lol yea
A bunch of pollution stuff
Apes is honestly boring class
And prob isnt as impressive ap class
What classes should i take as a freshman if i wanna go into a carrer in stem
Helpp plz
Science litteraly is the world
Anyways i rlly need serious advice lol
Im super stressed abt it
Get high in math
Have AP Calculus done by the time you finish high school
Calc AB is good to take, BC might be hard to reach though
Unless you’re already at an advanced level
Im stupid so i take random classes
Thank you that helped allot
U sound exactly like one of my close and annoying friends lol
Oppurtunist can sometimes be annoying
Can someone send me the extended quiz that gohar made to find out if we should select computer science
munger u actually have a business major or u goin business?
Hey y'all. I'm a freshman. I'm taking AP physics c Mechanics this year, and I'm planning on taking the AP physics E&M next year. I wanna 1-2 more aps though. Any suggestions on non stem classes(or maybe like 1 stem and 1 non stem)?
AP Calc AB (at some point) and for non-stem do AP Lang
AP psych maybe
How are u able ro take high levels of classes that early
Like what type of prep did u need
Or did u jump straight into them
research ivy league
i think your sat score and your gpa can get into one of the ivy league
im not sure about that
try do your research
Colleges see who would fit best for their colleges so yeah that happens
Very commonly but typically mostly for domestic applicants
Not as much
Depends on your country
Like Canada, ecs matter but like China not so much
Depends on your country
And what classes you’ve taken
And also how many people apply your year
And your recommendations
Wow. That's good.. I would recommend to see if u can do Ap Chem or Ap calc BC for stem. And for non stem ap world history.
Bro how would I know
Only the admin staff know that
Because they’re the people who get the applications
Ummm I can chance you for mit but idk any other school
You wouldn’t get in
Just because I know nothing about you
Grades are not what they focus on
The interview is very important as well as recommendation letters
yeah
Every single college does
if u can gget like two of them really good
then u get into a good college
probably
A good interview and rec letters can overrule a B
of course no guranttees
yeah if ur interviewer really likes u it's crazy how much that affects ur application
Fake???
don't do that
ikr it can really make or break you
They won’t but that’s a shitty thing to do
Like you’re cheating basically
They can know
and even if they don't know
they might figure out years later
like Gohar said
colleges do rescind degrees
even years after
Why not? Think about all those people who applied with a legit application letter
yeah and it's cheating
Also typically they want the teacher themselves to send in the letter
do u not have teachers that actually like you?
They can take it back easily and that will destroy your career
Like you can’t get a job
Because people will think that you lied your way there
so they can write genuine letters
Academic dishonesty can wreck your life
And you will have destroyed your connections
Because it is a public matter when they take away your diploma
I know people who work in Google
I know people who go to mit
All of them, all of them HATE liars
Have you ever done this before?
also this is a big hypothetical
Yea exactly
who said you're gonna be working at google?
Even if you make up letters there’s a small chance you’ll get in
Probably around like 2%
Especially for coding
Ew
Yeah degrees from prestigious colleges do not matter that much anymore
the education is def a bit better
but google won't discriminate between someone from MIT and Community college
Unless you’re from like the federated states of Micronesia you’re not getting it
given they have similar skills
Interview is still like 20% of it
also rec letter is one thing
And 50% of it is luck
u also need extracurriculars or interview
If they don’t like you as a person then they won’t accept you
the actual education and research opportunities
there's more opportunites within the college
Like I’ve heard of people being rejected because they wore too revealing clothes
The only jobs that do care about schools are law and business
like elon musk doesn't even look at degrees
Literally for stem they do not care
My mom went to a mid med school and she currently is making a ton of money
ik
but like
college will help your education
maybe get u higher positions
but that doesn't mean a better company
Better college usually gets u higher positions starting off
but the job doesn't matter as much
but once your degree is rescinded
academic dishonesty
Wdym? Like what’s your average grade
will destroy
Everything
so u got Bs?
nobody's against u here, but do not be too overconfident about getting into a college
work hard
and it should naturally come
and don't talk about academic dishonesty
that's actually a rule in this server
how does ur school scale stuff
because for us
4.5 gpa is honors
5 is ap
so the max someone at our school can get is like 4.7
HOW DID U CONVERT U 12th grade gpa
in 10th grade
Thats not how u convert
F = 0, D = 1, C = 2, B= 3, A = 4, and for weighted classes put C = 3, B= 4, A = 5
And add up all the #s and divide by the number of classes
Send me a pic of ur transcript in dms and I’ll calculate it
So will everyone else
Whats something that sets u apart from the other applicants?
doesn’t the GPA list range from 1-4 but AP and dual enrollments can allow it to get 5+
I have a question, when it comes to majoring in Law what AP courses should I take in general?
Just up to 5
oh alr thx
well yeah
but that's weighted
matters on the school
like gohar has 98.something gpa
but ur in 10th grade
how did u calculate the gpa
for 12th grade
before u even got into it?
How do some people have like- .6+ gpa tho
Its based on a 5.0 scale
Meaning an A in regulars = 5 and A in weighed is 6
huh-?
but it goes up to 4 like F is 0, D is 1, so on so fourth to A=4
and that’s weighted for my school I think
Ok so different school
have different scales
Some schools do 100
The most common is 4.0 UW 5.0 W
some do 6.0
etc.
i do 100 lol
imo it takes pressure off of maintaining a “perfect 4.0”
yeah
for 100
u can't really get a 100 gpa
uunless u have a 100 in the class
which basically means 100s on every assignment and test
yo do you think ap calc ab and ap stats along with ap world is too much of a workload for a sophomore
I think that's alright
if ur up for the rigor
go ahead
AP World might be hard but it's way better than taking APUSH
^^
apush is worser than apwh
fr
next year i was offered us history or apush
i choose us history
i am not taking apush
my guidance counselor said in highscjool (I’m 8th) that if we wanna get into some school or sum really good than go for a 5.0
through AP
since my school goes to 4.0
AP and dual enrollments can count as either 1.0 or 0.5
Where can I ask about majors and stuff?
I know this is vague but Ive been invited into a college summer program that I really want to attend, but I still have no idea what I want to do with my life. Are there any courses that aren't basic that anyone would recommend for everyone to take? I wanna go but I dont want to waste money on credits I'll never use as it's quite pricey.
Be careful with summer programs that are super expensive
Colleges usually roll their eyes at those because many kids don’t have access to those programs because of the price
I'm actually not from the USA. I'm from India. I basically completed the math that is typically taught to 9th and 10th graders, and I just followed the Indian Curriculum for 11th grade Physics(They teach you the calculus, trig, and vectors that are required for physics at the beginning), which includes the topics of AP Physics C(Mechanics) and a few more topics of like thermodynamics and fluids and stuff. yeah that's that(It took me about an year to do all of this, and I got like 1 topic left for the exam)
My overall 9th grade gpa sucks though 💀 I gave like zero attention to humanities.
When I do come around to writing college apps, should I just write I didn't give enough attention to humanities in 9th grade if I show a significant upward trend in the following years?
Is it fine if I just take Calc AB in junior year but don't take BC in senior year cause I saw the syllabus and there's no way I'll be able to handle that level of math. I wanna major in business so I think AB should be fine?
you cant take bc straight away?
calc bc covers all of ab in addition to more calc stuff
I can take BC directly but the syllabus is too much for me to handle and I don't want to take it if I know that I won't be able to get a 5.
youll be fine
im taking bc rn, and i heard the curve is really forgiving
like you can get 50-60% for a 5
youll also get an AB subscore
Okay, then I think I'll take BC, thanks.
So I’m taking chemistry this year and next year I’m going to a school that offers ap classes so should I retake chemistry as an ap class?
i would say if you really like chem then you should go for it, its not retaking it, but more of an extention in a sense, chem was the basics and then ap chem is more in depth stuff
Ok thank you!
I think ap chem is a good course to take
Yeah you should write that
that can show growth
I recommend BC because it's just 2 chpaters more. You might struggle a bit in the beginning but it shouldd be fine
alr, thanks!
but you'll never get a 5.0 gpa unless u do everything AP
which mens ur pe has to be ap
u have to start with aps all freshman year
I might end up taking BC but will I have time for it cause I'll also be doing AP Stats and MicroEcon?
And my school doesn't offer APs so I'll have to do it separately so would it count? Cause I wanted to do AP Calc cause I'm not taking school math after 10th grade.
is comm 101 a good class to take as a high school student doing dual enrollment
Yeah that's fin. Stats and microecon isn't too hard
ooh so should I go ap as much as I can and dual enrollment?
For hs?
well yeah, but make sure you balance it so you have time
for other stuff
is taking a financial accounting course in grade 11 beneficial for the future? is there any course in gr 11 beneficial? cause i have one course slot left and idk what to choose, i planned to choose art but idk
What are some recommended courses I should be taking in 11th grade? I have my mind on Calc BC if I were to be suggested and take AP CSA with that but are there any recommendations of what a Junior year schedule should consist of?
Is there anything that I should change about my Sophomore Year?
- Calc AB AP
- AP Gov
- AP CSP
- Gifted Independent Research (Our School Does not have AP Research, this is the equivalent)
- Gifted Chem (1. Graduation Req 2. You have to take some sort of chem at my school b4 taking AP chem)
- Gifted English
- Gifted Band
(Possible 5.0 weighted GPA, our school has a crap ton of GPA and Grade inflation 🙃 )
I would say no.
Get better, it's easy just read more and write daily.
since when
college board makes you run the middle in 4 minutes and 76 seconds for a 5 as a guy and 10 minutes as a girl
💀💀💀
or 9 minutes and 60 seconds as a girl
aww man! My school's releasing it next year.
💀
💀
do y'all's high schools have advanced inquiry honors? if so is it worth taking or should I go straight to AP Lang / English III Honors
No if u wanna go to community college
so yes for a 4-year college?
- Advanced English workshop (if I get out then maybe anatomy?)
- English 3 reg
- Advanced Band or Wind Ensemble( varies on the final)
- US History
- Korean 3H
- Algebra 2 reg
This is my schedule for junior year. Is there anything I should change?
i personally wouldnt do this
its too much wasted space
That’s the bare minimum for my specific school.
English - 4 years
Mathematics - 3 years
Language - 2 years at most but I would like to get the biliteracy award
Science - 1 year of bio, 1 year of chem or earth and space
History - World History, US History, Econ and us govt
PE- 2 years
u do u
but i personally wouldnt do that
Guys
When should an international student come to america for education?
I’m currently 14
almost 15
so in 8th grade
does it matter?
for me it does
y
i live in Egypt
y does that matter?
I even went to a school for upcoming students going to america
that doesnt answer the question
also doesn’t every international student go to america?
for? and y?
Egypt has poor education
we take physics in 8th grade
good
I see it has better education
ooo oki so maybe during summer I should get a calendar 💀
thats it? thats all u want? nothing else?
i wouldnt do that
yeah ig
I don’t even know what’s AP CSP
y u taking all aps? ur taking useless classes for no reason from what i see
u have no intrest in music so idk the point for ap mt
so should i?
r u majoring in cs?
whats the reason?
from what i see, ur working too hard, ur wasting ur energy on stuff thats unnecessary
work smarter
@cinder gorge @cinder gorge
not from what i see
What grade are you,
y u asking us to decide ur life?
You told me 😭
??
