Ah ok
ill still be able to take bc i am 1 year ahead now
Yeah you’d be where I am
grade and course?
Junior in BC
Nice
1 - AP Calculus BC
2 - AP European History
3 - AP Physics C
4 - AP Statistics
5 - AP Biology
6 - AP English Lit
7 - AP Spanish Language
8 - Lab Period
9 - Gym/study hall
thats my plan for next year
That is…a lot for senior year
yeah
bio and stats easy tho
and i can drop euro whgenever
bc im also doing history over the summer so i can get free credit
Yeah but it’s senior year
But the time your grades are final you’ll pretty much know where you’re going to college
It’s better to go all out junior year
Senior year should really just be fulfilling any requirements and taking classes that interest you
yeah
most do
and thats why imdoing ap chem this year
bc doing all of the big 3 senior year would suck
calc bc, physics c and ap chem
Colleges check your senior year sem 1 grades
They check in
At least top colleges
True
Although yeah
I would
Take
Another ELA
Rather than lit
And bio is pretty useless
but then i would have all 7 core science classes my school offers
Honors Earth Science
Honors Bio
Honors Chem
Honors Physics
AP Bio
AP Chem
AP Physics C
Ok then
U can clearly handle it
1hm
the top 3 are the things im most intrested in
i do the 3rd
but i like breaking shit
so i may try to major in cyber
thanks
You can take two math classes? Do you know if this is everywhere or does it depend on the school?
Depends on the school, I would assume you can as long as you have all your required credits done
Prob depends on the school, I can take 2 of the same classes
Seems a bit inaccurate
Because some of them don’t peak that high
For instance cyber might start high but as you get good at it, the peak salary isn’t as high as the third option
You have to take that into account
Like ML pays hella hella high but it’s low on ur list
shouldn't depend on this. it usually depends where you work and what you actually do.
I run on a block schedule btw, should I take H Chem, H World History, H Geometry, Lit, Astronomy 1 &2 and personal finance?
For 2nd year of high school
Yeah
But could u take AP?
Nah I couldn’t take any honors classes in n my freshman year so with things looking out, I’ll have to take ap’s in my jr - sr year
omg! how about AerospaceE?
Is ap calc ab manageable? I am struggling in honors precal rn, and i am dropping into regular precal next semester because my current teacher is very crappy tbh
I have course selection tmr and im still choosing what aps to take senior year :')
Yes
Regular precalc should go to AB
Honors should go to BC
Thank you guys!
Is it necessary to learn 2 different languages in highschool or should I just do 1?
Just 1 unless you wanna go into like international relations later on
And multilingual lowk hot asl
alr thanks
should I go from geometry to algebra 2 or geometry to applied algebra 2? what's the difference?
hey guys! I want some opinions on my course possibilities for my Senior year. Is this too much or should I go harder? I plan on majoring in Psychology and minoring possibly in Spanish and Music.
AP Psychology
PreCalc
Spanish 5
Senior Comp & Lit
Symphonic Band (Laude)
Personal Finance
Lab Assistant
Hey guys i need an honest opinion on my course selection for senior year. I want 2 off periods, ap bio, ap lit, ap calc ab, ap macro. I am still deciding on whether or not i should take ap gov, and im figuring out what my last class will be. What do you think?
My other class might be asl 3 but im still thinking about that
I can give you some advice on AP Gov since I am taking it this year, but if you don't know much about politics or anything, then it might be a struggle but if you know the basics if not some advanced stuff, you will be really good on the units. I struggled a bit at first but I feel every unit I have more and more information that allows me to fix my previous mistakes
So yeah if you think you have a pretty good understanding on politics and our government, you should be pretty good on AP Gov
Im not too familiar with the last 2, but your schedule is pretty well alligned with what you want to major and minor in :) I personally think that if you want to go harder, you should think about how you handled previous years, maintaining ecs, and mental health. I definitely believe you have the capabilities to have more advanced classes but don't push yourself to hard
Thanks!
And thank you!
Question, is there alot of writing in ap gov?
My class got chapter reading guides
Which were on paper
but other than that a lot of it was online
A lot of the course though is learning and doing some activities to make sure you have an understanding of the activity. Mainly group work though
Ahh okay ty ty
I think this is decent
I would recommend to try for more honors and aps
Like ap Spanish
I don't think my school has that. Spanish 5 is our highest that is given a college credit by one of our in-state colleges
Oh ok
Dual credit is still fine
Not sure if this is the appropriate channel but, im wondering --
Is AP or dual enrollment classes better to take?
Dual enrollment will give you the college credit without an exam
For example I did a psychology course over the summer at a community college and that grants me college credit for psychology
So even though I’m in AP Psych now I already have the credit and don’t need to take the exam
Woahhh, so you can take both AP psych and psych DE?
I took psych DE over the summer and enrolled in AP Psych for the school year yeah
They allowed me
Except it’s not as widely accepted
Then AP it is
Definitely depends @upper temple. What school is the dual-enrollment in? That is important. Is it dual-enrollment through your high-school, or is it a running-start program where you will actually be at a college? If it is the case that it is a running-start program I would highlyyyyyyyyy recommend that over AP.
College courses will always be more in-depth and rigorous than an AP course unless you are in a very unique circumstance. Also, in some cases, you can end up graduating with a degree at the same time as your diploma.
My school is in a very rural community so there wasn't many AP options anyways, but through dual-enrollment I took calculus 1-4, when if all I ever took was AP the furthest I could have gotten was calc BC (not offered at my school anyways) which only covers maybe 1/4 of the material in a calculus 2 course at a college. I also ended up graduating with an Associates in Science at the same time as my high-school graduation, which guarantees 90 of my credits transfer to any school I go to and also looks very good for any applications.
I know that's a lot of words but I hope it helps you out. AP is definitely not always the right choice!
True
Some dual enrollment classes is tak3n in my high school. And some are taken inside the community college nearby.
Not sure what it means to be a running start program though
How is AP Physics, is it too hard? Medium, or okay??
It’s medium
The pass rate is less
Because people are underprepared
But if u are good at algebra II
U should be fine
depends on what type of ap physics you're doing
there's a calc-based and algebra-based version
If your math is fine and you have common sense then you should be good.
It generally is considered as one of the harder APs one can take, but again - ^
Anyone know?
It depends on the specific exam you're doing
For example AP Physics 1 is totally different from AP Physics 2
Does this schedule for high school look good for somebody wanting to get into a good college (Around 20-30% acceptance reate)? I am a freshman year so freshman schedule is set.
Freshman:
Band, Spanish 2 (no honors available), US History (no honors available), Honors English I, Honors Biology,
Honors Geometry
Sophomore:
Band, Spanish 3 (no honors available), AP World History, Honors English II, Honors Chemistry, Honors Algebra II
Junior:
Band, Drama, Honors Government, AP Lang, AP Biology, Pre-Calc (no honors available)
Senior:
Band, Drama, AP Gov, AP Lit, Honors Physics, AP Calc AB
that would be inside the community college type of courses. Running-start means you can be enrolled at college at the same time as high school
Should I take AP Computer Science Principles Sophomore year? Is it hard? I currently have it planned as an alternative elective.
Currently in an Intro to Programming class this semester as a Freshman
It doesn’t matter too much about what class you take no? just get a good grade and make sure to challenge yourself to the best of your ability’s. But that classes do look good. Lots of AP classes look good but don’t overwhelm yourself and get bad grades
This is the classes I want to take if it gives you any perspective (any tips on my classes anyone?)
US Gov > World Language H > AP/H US History > AP Phyc
Earth Science > Chemistry H > AP Chemistry/Physics H> AP Physics
ELA > ELA > ELA H> AP LIT
Algebra I > Geometry H > Algebra II H > Pre Calculus H/AP Stats
Algebra (LAB) > Spanish > Spanish > Spanish H
Art > Astronomy I & (II), Personal Finance
Health, Health II
PE, PE, PE, PE
Ap csp is very easy
It’s not hard at all
It’s introductory
30% of your exam grade is a scratch project
It’s an extremely hard class
Very complex material
And the AP exam is so hard
AP CSP??
30% of your score is creating your own fully functioning game with masterly level coding skills
(all sarcasm btw)
Lol
Is ap computer science (not principles) an introductory class?
I was reading that and genuinely couldn't tell..
Comp Sci A is more advanced
Uhh my school offers one that just says ap cs, but is a still introductory? Or does it require u to already know some stuff
If it says introductory
Then no prior knowledge is needed
AP Chem you should know some CP Chem topics
Do a summer course or do reg Chem first
That depends
Ok
Generally though you should be fine as long as you’re not like way behind in math
Ok thx
Is Chem hard?
Like what was so bad about it
Probably the homework
I’ve just heard it’s lots of ridiculous details and complicated topics
The topics can be confusing but if you can get through chem you probably will be fine at AP Chem
Just pay attention and do the homework and labs
And you will be okay
Yeah I’d rather just do apes and chill Lmao
I wish I could do that
But my school doesn’t offer it
I’m taking it rn it’s so free
Fr
The class is really easy
According to the people I have talked to
Little to no homework
Actually
My class has a lot of homework
But it’s barely weighted anything
And the tests are easy
Oh
Ap cs is introductory
Even caa
Csa
That’s just teaching you the entire coding language Java
U start from basics
Ok ty
But I feel like
When did you take it?
What if ur not interested
This year
It’s definitely harder than csp
But still introductory
Freshman
Oh
What grade are most of your classmates in?
I’m not sure if I should take it sophomore or junior year
Mainly other freshmans and a mix of sophomore, juniors and seniors
I think he has
Ok ty
Yeah
Normally it’s a sophomore course at our school
Cuz u need a prerequisite at our school
But I asked
If I could do it without
And they gave me permission
Cuz I had a background
Like u don’t need a background
Cuz they start from Java
But it helps to know how coding works
B
I
T
C
bro
@clear pasture so what does the system go like
No obligation to be present in class in the one im in
And you have to do 5-8 writing assignments and 4-6 multiple choice assignments during a semester
And they never bother you about anything
That sucks
It can be good for some people and bad for some
Oh ok
Its standard university courses its not supposed to be easy
You get used to it
My school grades are not that good tho
Thats a different chat
No it is fine
I just don’t want to get warned by mods up in general
They are there
hey guys, im a freshman rn and wanted to know if I take precalc (my course that i will be taking next year) over the summer will i be able to do calc ab/bc as a sophomore
How familliar are you with calculus in general
What grade math are you in
Algebra 2
accel geo B/algebra 2
im doin the second half of geometry in the first semester and algebra 2 in the second half
Yeah what are the requirements before you do Calc AB or BC
precalc
yeah
there is an option to do it over the summer
Take it at your school next year
thats what i wanna do
nah
I would strongly suggest don’t
oh
You need a teacher to guide you
It is easy to get stuck if you are not careful
we pay like $500
oh ok
Dude don’t waste 500 dollars
i think i should check with my counselors
lol ok
When you can be taught for free next year
Summer, no routine, its harder to keep up and not to slack off in my opinion
But if you think you can do this so idk
tru but if i finish calc ab bc in 10th grade i can take a collage course that my highschool offers
oh ok
Is that the only AP offered
My opinion
Based off expirience
its 2 math courses in total that my highschool offers
Calc bc Is not dual enrollment it is a AP class
no like i go to georgia tech to learn math there
What, I would take that
yeah
But do it junior year
theres gt math 1 and 2 one every year
rly smart ppl do gt math 1 and 2
it’s basically to lool good on college apps
look
a lot maybe on the top of my head 25+
or 20+
or less but deff more than 15
Take at least 10 AP classes
if my school offers 21 AP classes how many should I take within my 4 years of highschool
At least 6-10
how many should I take the first year?
less than the other years?
does it take up a lot of time doing APs?
Yes
It is AP Advanced Placement
Difficult compared to honors and regular
Makes sense.
class of 2027 💀
Fr 💀
Do it!
U can then get an extra math year
To go into diff equations
Or stats
You’re paying for your education
It’s fine
U can do better courses then
Dude it costs 500 dollars
ok and?
and that’s such a long time from now
49 months 💀
Yeah
It’s a summer school program
What do u think
Dude but it is a waste of money
It’s not a waste
There’s a difference between a waste
And an investment
Why spend 500 dollars on a Precalc class when you could do it in school the next year and take calc BC after
And he’s investing it into his education
So that u can take another class?
That helps u learn more
Why?
I might as well enjoy my highschool years.
No dude tell me would you spend money on a summer course or take a free class the whole year
I’m literally spending money on a summer course
Dude such a waste
You could be spending the 500 dollars on the stock market
I see it as an investment
Yeah
Because kids can do it in the stock market
Dude the stock market
Isn’t just like that
U can’t just buy stocks
U have to know patterns
Consequences
Etc
Yeah
It isn’t that difficult
You just have to known when to invest and what time to sell
That is difficult
No it isn’t
If you don’t know what you are doing it is difficult
Have u done it?
Yes
Nice
I have made like 1k from it
Funny
My family is wealthy but I don’t get a lot from them
You need like a account with your parents
Yeah so that’s ur parents
I’m not throwing my money is something that I know is risky
At least spending it on summer school isn risky
Spending money on your education isn’t a waste
That’s literally college
I mean my parents legally own it but I can claim it until I am 18, and also I deposit my own money none of parents deposit their own money
Oh
So u stop
In order to be rich you need to do risks
No I can fully own it without parent supervision
Dude you are never going to succeed if you play the safe game
Stocks is not the only way to succeed
Also
I don’t have rich parents
To back me up
Ik it isn’t
My parents don’t back me up
Ik
Take it over the summer
U can do it
I don’t own it outright but I can control what I deposit. Man you need to educate yourself on it
No
I’m not saying
That
I’m saying that ur wording was wrong
U said u can claim it until you turn 18
That implies that u can’t when you turn 18
My bad
But anyway
Thing you should learn about investing
If you want to become rich
@austere tulip
Yeah
But I’m not investing now
I have many more things to do
Than throw my money at some random company
Without a purpose
When I’m older
There is a purpose to make money
I will
Starting sooner will be more beneficial than starting late
No thanks
Not through stocks
Im working on creating a new product
And observing peoples problems
What is that
Don’t know yet t
I’m still in the working phase
Observing peoples problems
Trying to solve it
I want to create a business by the time I’m out of high school
Id rather do that than stocks
Starting a business is good
But you need to have passive income
How else are you going to make money
U get that through a business
What is your business about
Like I said
I don’t know yet
I’m working on it
I’m a freshman
I have time
Probably by sophomore year
I’ll have actual shape
Alright dude, but you need to have a general idea because you turn 18 in 3-4 years
Anyways
Back to the original topic
U absolutely
Should
Take summer school
If you can accelerate your education
Bro stop diverting it
Let’s talk on dms
Alright okay
I really don’t know what to do.. I have really bad grades right now and I’ve never had these kind of grades before. I have hours of homework every night and I can’t handle it anymore, if I drop a honors course I’m scared I wont get into the college of my choice which is competitive.
I’ve had lots of similar thoughts
Just know that you have the holidays and stuff coming up
You just gotta keep pushing
The point is to make a courseload that is good for you
If you have Bs right now
Keep the class
However
If it’s lower
Drop the honors
It has to be good for you
Not suicidal
Or very bad
Or overly stressful
which one seems better for prestigious schools
- finish math through ap calculus bc
- finish math with ap statistics and ap computer science principles
Depends if ou wanna go into comp sci
Calc would look better than stats
But comp sci can be taken in both paths
kk ty!
Idk about that
You shouldn’t do things that look better, you should do things that you enjoy
nah screw enjoyment
I don’t disagree with that
But they asked
Which one looks better
I was answering their question
Oh ok
ap csp is also unnecessary but if u want u can do it
also it’s not that impressive
Any tips of how to properly succeed in early physics?
Does anyone know if SHSM is worth it?
And does it play as a big role when applying for uni's
only for people from ontario pretty sure /\
Do u think this is good course selection for 10th grade?? English 10H , AP Calcus AB , Research Chemresity , African American History , German 3 AP seminar and Naval Science 2
Is it a good balance ?
good. alcance yea
balance
calc is high for a sophomore
Does history for your sophmore year take up an elective spot? I don't see how it doesn't.
I am taking pre calcus
I am taking PE over the summer
some schools require history during sophomore year
my school doesn’t let us take history before sophomore year actually, even as an elective.
hm
There’s this one eighth grader taking algebra II rn in my school so if he doesn’t take pre calc over the summer he’ll be taking calc as a sophomore 😳
There’s people in my school who take calc as a freshman
And finish calc C first semester sophomore year
Holy crap that’s wild
ok
Well I'm basically at precalc and I'm in 9th grade
And I'll likely be doing calc in 10th grade
Yeah same
I mean I’ll 100% be doing calc
And I’ll finish Calc C by the end of sophomore year
what is better AP or IB for high-schools in Canada? I am applying to both IB and AP, but my AP school also offers AP + Strings and I'm sure I will get selected, plus my AP school is closer so I won't have to pay bus fee if I went to AP. Also, which program do universities prefer, an amazing candidate from iB OR amazing candidate from AP?
Both are great programs
In my opinion
I consider the Ib better
Because it’s an actual program rather than just a bunch of courses
And it’s more writing based
However
Colleges will not discriminate
Both programs have challenging aspects
If ap seems closer take thst
I would recommend Ib though
Has anyone taken AP stats before
No
Yeah super fun class, would recommend
which one is more academically rigorous and which one would I gain the most information form
IB
wait. you live in Canada right?
No
ohhh. so you dont know.. in Canada, the AP requirements are harder to get into, and the courses are way more content focused which makes it far more rigorous than ib. However, Ib provides the Theory of KNowledge Learning, whereas AP provides AP Capstone. They both are amazing, but AP provides more info, how is IB and AP like where you live?
Ap requirements might be harder
But it’s still standardized
The courses still focus around the exams
And AP capstone although good
Is not as good as TOK
And ap is American
Ib is more international
Based
wait what exactly do people mean when they say international based, does that mean like learning around the world?
Well
The point of view is from an international perspective
ohh,,
And a bunch of countries
And education systems
Worked together
To make the curriculum
For the ap
It’s just a private company
In america
Called collegeboard
Which also makes the sat
cuz I was in an IB middle school, and alll that internation bullshit was a lie
Oh
Well
I’ve heard good things about ib high school
But if you want ap
That’s good as well
As long as you use it well
Yea, plus our thing provides AP + Strings so we get to do instrumental leanring as well, and we can use it as our electives if we do good
Cuz I’m actually in ap
oh.
My cousin is in ib
But I’m in the us
So
We have individual courses
Not a special school for ap
What was fun about it
oh yea.. then it must be different in US than in Cnaada
Not really
Because the ap program is American
well yea ig, but in Canada we can only take AP courses if we are in AP program
You’d still be taking the same exams
is it like that in US?
WAIT DO I TAKE THE SAT TOO>
I don’t know about that
But you’d be taking the same ap exams as us
If you want to go to college in the us ap is good
Otherwise I would recommend IB because it is more rigorous
what abt canadian colleges
In
IB
But if you go to an Ib school take more HL course
Courses*
Because those are college leve
Yeah
Supposedly they are
But ap comp sci pirnciples
That is a scam
So is human geo
So is psych
Enviro
And then
Even in the more complicated courses
For the exam
U get a full score if you get a 76
And I’m in ap world
And literally
If you write a lot with all the included stuff you ace the writing part
So quantity is considered a lot
thats good :)_
So there are definitely problems
But
They do have good courses
Mostly their sciences
And APUSH
OH ALSO I FORGOT TO MENTION the ib school that i can apply to is blacklisted by university of waterloo
which is my dream university
other than uft
and MIT
Ok
Go to the ap school
But one thing
There’s no way u can only take ap courses
Because ap doesn’t offer some stuff
And like some of their courses aren’t freshman and soph level
is it like below freshman and sophomore or higher?
THATS GREAT 🙂
Ap sciences are not good for freshman and soph
And there’s not enough courses
To fit all four years
That’s weird
U must have other courses
yea that makes sense ig
what abt Ib
do all courses fit for the 4 years
so cna I live on only taking Ib courses?
so Ib is regular + Hl, and AP is regular + AP
Not super mathy/algebra heavy if you dont like that. It was mostly conceptual stuff and knowing how to apply formulas (not too much to memorize either but at times it was tricky). We did a lot of projects and there was a lot of freedom in it. Had a great teacher which def makes a difference, but it's just a chill class in general I'd say
I don’t mind algebra and formulas so it would be cool. I just want to make sure that I can get more out of it than Calc BC when I finish high school
I know I’m not gonna go into an area where I have to use derivatives and stuff
Then again tho calculus is needed for a bunch of majors so I have to decide
for suuuree, but so is statistics. What do you plan on majoring in/interests?
design -> architecture or computer design
Has anyone here taken an AP their school didn’t offer?
I’m in 11th grade, and once I graduate I’ll have taken AP World, APUSH, AP Physics, AP English, AP Bio, and AP Calc (the only other one my school offers that I won’t be taking is AP Chem because you basically have to choose between Chem and Physics here). However, I plan on going to college for either Psychology or Neuroscience. I think that it’s good that I’ll have at least one AP in each of the core subjects, but will it be important that I take AP Psych since that’s what I’m most interested in? I want to take it, but I’m not really sure how to go about it. Is it better to take it online somehow, or to teach the material to myself and see if any nearby schools offer the test? It would also get me up to 7 APs and I know more competitive schools want you to have taken 7 or up.
AP psych is a great choice, and also if you want to take a AP class your school doesn’t offer you should do it
Also you don’t need 7 APs to be competitive
If you take 40-60% of your AP courses you were offered you will be fine
||ah shoot I gotta say something on topic||
I can take AP Stats or AP Calc next year, which would you choose? The college program I’m applying for only requires as far as Math IV but I plan to complete at least 3 years of math
Which one do you like more
Calc or Stats
uhh
I don’t really know cause I havent gone too far in precalc yet and stats is meh
Are you taking pre calc this year
Its a mixed course. Alg II and Precalc in one course
Take calc next year
Then take stats
hmm
not a bad plan
I still have a long way ahead of me though to plan it out though
😅
10th grade schedule (not in order)
Weightlifting
Spanish 1 (didn’t take Spanish in middle school Or this year)
Biology 2
English 2 honors
World history honors
Geometry
Thoughts?
I’m not taking APs until 11th
My exact schedule without honors history 💪💪💪💪
Awesome
Except I’m in French
Ah
Idk if it’s good but my school doesn’t even offer aps in 10th
Some kid got into Harvard a few year ago though so maybe it’s possible I think her dad went there though
I don’t have a dream college. Maybe something local like FGCU, or Bethune cookman
Ok
Or maybe saint Leo
Awesome
What is your grade
You going out of state or in state college?
9th grade
Out of state
oh
my school don't offer aps below 11th grade and only allows 3 per year 11th or above what do i do
Just take honors
also with only 2 honors i am probably going to get 3 a- with 6 classes and I already got 3 a- last year with just 1 honors and 8 classes, its the maximum honors my school offers for 10th and 9th grde (in 10th rn)
Like I’m gonna do
How bad is this
It’s not bad
Yay
Any other
Just wait until 11th grade to start taking aps
Cornell’s campus is sooo pretty
Never I either go to Cornell or I go to mcdonald hamburger university in illionois
The winters 🥶
I mean
Why McDonald hamburger university
Not any worse then where I live so
Because I like hamburger
I wanna go Bethune cook man, or FGCU
It is one of the worst
For winter??
What grade are you in
10
Yes
Ok
Dude brown turned off it’s ac and when I went for Model un I was dying of heat
Ok?
Like they were heating the campus on a 74 degree day
74 is good
So I don’t think that weather or heating should be super dependent lol
74-82 degrees is comfortable
Agree got that on my last math test
I mean yeah absolutely but heating on top of that brought it to 86 in the classrooms
For me it’s 60-73
I will die under those conditions
I would die from hypothermia
86 is like not that hot
It is hot but not unbearable
You went there with shorts and t shirts
I can live through 86
I mean I can survive but I’m not gonna be happy
It gets unbearable when it reaches 100 degrees
I will be okay
90 is when it starts becoming bad
Is all of the ivy colleges doing a model
Um I would assume most of them organize model un conferences
Wow cool
The ones my school goes to are Brown, Yale, and Harvard cause those are closest to us
We also go to Georgetown
Do you live in Washington DC
It’s a lot of fun, there’s a couple schools that literally dominate every single model un conference but my school is decently respected
Nope
In the area yeah
My type of weather is like Miami
I like weather nice year round
I have these nice lined jeans that have fleece inside so those save me big time
Oooo okay
I like the change in seasons
Or like Palo Alto
Cause then I don’t take summers for granted lol
It seems weird to me
A lot of friends I know what to go to an Ivy League
I wish it was warm year round
And I believe in them
I mean fall is sooo pretty and winter is really fun and I love summer
Spring is eh
I don’t like it but most people do
Dude why are so many people applying to the Ivy Leagues
I mean
I think that’s pretty normal
I am not going to apply because it is a instant rejection because of how many applicants
Cause its ✨name brand ✨
They are going to reject me on the spot
Where you going to apply?
UNC, USC, UVA and UCLA
Ohhh okay, so yeah california beach weather
My parents don’t want me to apply to anywhere in Texas or california because of the crazy people there
No there aren’t
I heard usc has a great sports program
It does
💀
I mean my dad is very country boy and my mom went to San Fransciso and hated it so
What
San Francisco is nice
The weather and people are nice
I’m sure they are
And there’s a good Asian population
But eh that’s just my parents and I don’t feel like going that far away from them
I want to stay close
Same that’s why I’m applying somewhere in Florida
Why not go far away from your parents
It’s gonna be sad going to a different state
I don’t want to be around my parents
My sister is a lot younger then me and I want to be with her as she grows up
Because yk right now she’s really just a kid
And I’ll be in college for all of her middle and high school
And that’s when you really get to bond with siblings
Also if like some disaster happens I don’t want to be 6 hours away from my family
Eh I guess, if I had siblings I wouldn’t bother
Yeah it’s to each their own
But we’re as close as possible for our age gap
And yk when my parents die she’ll be the only one ill have
So it’s important to me for us to be close
Respect 🤛
Also do you plan on working in Boston
Hopefully
Ok
There’s a lot of good stuff here
I mean I guess
Boston isn’t really for me I like a nice quiet and warm suburb like Palo Alto
Idk why
Where do you live in Florida
flordia too hot
Miami
Dude I wish I lived there
I mean I live like 30 min from the city and right by a train station so if I could live here when I get older that would be the dream
The weather is nice
Yeah absolutely
Such good seafood
The only problem is it gets humid during the summer
And it feels like a desert
I know that’s what I hate about Florida
It’s so hot
Winter is the only season when it’s not hot
Yeah
Honestly I prefer dry heat over wet heat
Yeah like in California
i wanna go to california
Where in Cal
LA
Oh
I've never been to cali
It is good
But I like the suburbs
Because there chill not like the cities
yeah i see
Nah bro trust me you don’t Lmao
California overrated af
🧢
ohio, california, florida ❌
- south carolina ❌
mhm
is anyone doing/has done economics and psychology for IB
I'm planning to take one of them at SL but need some advice on which to choose
I already do both of those subjects in gcse
apparently IB economics is same as gcse and IB psychology is entirely different to gcse but idk which to choose if I wanna do medical/engineering
ok so @trim steppe
according to my friend
pysch is really fun
because
its a easy topic to understand and apply irl
u need to memorise a lot of stuff tho
it really depends
on what your passion lies in
if you like pysch more but you're scared of the difference between the gcse and ib
just go for it if you're passionate about it
take the risk
but its up to u
oh ty
I heard about that from some ppl hmmm
I just dk which to do based on the fact that I'll do medical or engineering in the future
I am going to apply for an IB school soon and they told me I should choose my courses. There are 2 of them I will course HL 100% (Chemistry and Biology) but I still have to choose another HL and I need to choose if doing History or Economy.
I want to study medicine
Do Economy
It is a really intriguing class
@cinder gorge wb history
History is good too but it isn’t that interesting as economics
That’s fright
Btw. You can always ping me for help with course selection with stuff other than IB. (I know some things but im not familiar with the system)
I would recommend history
I think that history is very interesting
And history is very important too
Many selective colleges recommend emphasis on history and government in high school
economics would be good
but if u want an interesting and an option where u can think more
history is the choice
Yes
It is too easy
Also
History is not pointless
There's a reason that when they send people to Mars, they're going to send historians
Some parts are important but the rest are useless
If I’m a Doctor when the hell am I going to need to know what the Civil War was
Genuine question
Well
u could say that
about economics
and a lot of other things
Learning about and exploring the past is very important
and also
history isn't just wars
Doctor actually can and do use history
Famous doctors
thatt's history
history of medicine
Famous doctors ☠️
I mean yes, History will help prevent the future
History is scientific achievement
Exactly
and that's why
they're sending historians to mars
to make sure
History classes don’t emphasize that though
that they don't make the same mistakes they did on Earth
Some... don't
They just tell you what happened in the past
That is good because if we learn about the dictators we can stop future dictators from taking power
The only one that actually is useful is AP Human Geo
LOL
I would love to disagree
human geo is a scam for an AP
That's not true at all
Complexity?
Also
Analyzing themes in history
Well that’s the only one that actually helps you understand how the past has influenced the present
That just tells u how Johnny applesauce moved to alabama
Yeah that’s all in the past
Changes over time….in the past
History helps dictators and bad people from seeking powers
I don’t care about how some exploration in 1650 influenced 1700s trade routes
Or some bs
It is literally why Europe doesn’t have wars
U don't
History helps us learn
but
Yeah
many others do
Also
That could be said about human geo
and humanities
if u want to go to stem
doesn't mean u shouldn't learn humanities
and anyways
literally half the stuff u learn in school is pointless
so learning some history isn't going to do any harm
and personally for me it's really interesting
If you learned one topic all of your life you would be really dumb
No joke
yeah
and actually history and gov could help with making decisions
when u go to vote
and stuff
Also like education it self helps prevent wars
By educating people
So bad things don’t happen
If we removed it, the world be bad
@hollow finch
You may not like what school teaches you but it helps keep society organized
just taking my question from general and putting it here
i have a question, basically im canadian, if i want to study in the us as an international student (or any place outside of canada, really) should i do the IB diploma program or a bunch of APs?? i was always thinking to take IB cus its well rounded and can prepare me for standardized tests i have to take in order to study in certain countries but idk cus my siblings r always saying something different.
Take IB
Way better than APs
thats what i was thinking as well- great humanities curriculum as well. thank you so much!
Yeah do that
