Yeah, if you're trying to get into UCLA, MIT, Harvard, APs are not going to make you stand out.

But you've got to compare yourself not just to those above you, but to all of the rest of those beneath you. Many schools don't offer AP, most don't bother to take them, if you're applying somewhere like a state college, APs will help you stand out. Most importantly they're going to prepare you for college level work and the concept of self education, which you'll be pretty heavily reliant on during college.

no, we have core subjects (3-5 hours a week) and side subjects (2 hours). in junior and senior year we can choose "leistungskurse" which are like majors. i want to take english, chemistry and politics.
in the grade before junior (at my school) we can drop our third language and do 2 out of 3 (geography, comp sci and philosophy) or keep it and do 1. i wont drop italian though.
and i already had a basic comp sci class in 7th grade
