My schedule for next year can u guys rate
Honors algebra 2
Honors la 10
Spanish 4
Physics
Chem
A push
physics and chem in same year why
Don’t do Chen and phys I did that and it was very annoying because they are classes not normally taken together so literally all the tests overlap
I’d recommend taking an AP science rather than both
Of a regular
Looks better and is less if a hastle
I have a question for all of you. What student would get into a better university/college completely based off of the stats here? Look closely to see the differences. The first student takes less advanced classes at first unlike Student 2, and Student 1 gets signifcantly better grades that Student 2.
Student 1, the courses are still hard enough that it’s impressive they would have done all of that
just based off of the transcripts, student 1. the amount of ap's are the same, but student 1 has better grades in them. student 1's gpa and standardized test scores are better, as well, so that helps.
Oh alright, tysm
Ok...
So
based on the stats
You CANNOT judge college acceptances by grade
They count your extracurriculars and everything
so...
If student one did only that
But student two was taking part in a few activities and doing good,
student two would be betetr
One more thing
Not all of these Aps will be considered important
Like Human Geo?
That's not really an AP course for seniors
An AB is useless to take before BC
But...
Just wondering
Is this your schedule?
No, just a planned out one
nerd
Wow.
Oh ok
So yes
In my opinion at least AB and Human Geo don't have a point
Oh k
They both meet the academic standard, It would be up to essay and extracurricular
Alright
Their extracurricular would have to demonstrate vision and impact on the school they were at, applying to, and society as a whole.
Their essay must reveal something about themselves and introduce a wow factor such as a challenge overcame with maturity and traits the school value
The student who hits that on the dot, is accepted
Oh ok, thanks
I cant find any courses related to cloud in MIT or Ivy League
How do i become a cloud architect?
It’s either computer engineering or computer science, idrk the difference
Like….the cloud?
As in software stuff?
That’s coding and typically software engineering
How do I choose what to do?
well what do you really like?
I’m a sophomore and that’s my plan for high school
how can I change it to be more competitive
Would i pick computer science or computer engineering for that?
Computer science
take Calc 3 and linear algebra
I think it's very competitive
Your courseload is fine
Now I would just join clubs
so do you have any math, science, or computer science clubs in school?
also
are you engineering classes PLTW?
yea it’s pltw
and I’m in the first robotics club as lead, science Olympiad club, national history day competition as secretary and member of nhs
Y’all know any courses to higher ur chance getting into a Ivy League
what other clubs should I join
how should I take that?
becuz I don’t think that’s offered at hs
at local community college
ohhh ok
Yeah
what yr should I take that
Talk to your counselor about it, it would be your senior year
i wouldn’t have any sadly
haha ok
Does anyone know what the best courses to take in high school to set me for a career in being an airliner pilot ?
And what are the extracurricular’s of student 1 and 2
realistically you could do fine with baseline classes as long as you get As and Bs
Take APs or concurrently enroll to get college credit out of the way
you technically don’t have to go to college
thanks!
What are some easy majors that pay well in college? Because I was taking computer science but I couldn’t hang
So now I’m thinking of switching majors
So you are quitting
What was difficult about it
It wasn’t difficult it was that the instructor was bad at teaching
He would never respond to any of the emails I would send him#
Do you guys have a option to switch teachers
Yeah, but he’s the only instructor that teaches that class which I need
Oh
Yeah
What is your current grade in the class
He hasn’t graded any of the assignments yet
Don’t quit just yet
Let the grades come in
And then decide if you want to quit or not
I will wait for the grades to come in, but just in case what majors are relatively easy and pay well after college
Why does money matter though
Because it’s money you can’t do nothing if you don’t have money@
Yeah, but chasing money won’t make you happy
But if you have money, you can buy anything to make you happy
Yeah but if you work a job that pays well and hate it
Think about it
It’s like torture
Also if you want to get rich you can’t give up easily
Yea but what can i do
Business
That industry can make you extremely rich
Although I should say it requires you to take a lot of stress and effort
And a lot of failures
@cobalt spruce
Damn
?
Dude life isn’t easy no career will make you wealthy without hard work
I know
what college r u in
should I pick chemistry biology or physics?
Can you handle a lot of work
depends. what grade are you in?
Student 1 sweeps
Lets assume they both have the same Extra-Curriculars
I do not like the examples
The examples r pretty stupid
Yes
Student 1 has been consistent from the start
Student 2 shows hella improvement
And both their GPAs r good
Really comes down to their essay
And ECs
Ye but I was just saying based off of just what I showed
The experiment is not good @cinder gorge
Okay....
Like this one will example will be hard
So we have two students, Student 1 is Jared and Student 2 is James
Jared High School GPA goes the following
9th grade - 4.0
10th grade - 4.0
11th grade - 3.85
12th grade - 4.0
Cumulative GPA - 3.96
He has taken 3 AP Classes
He has placed in 2nd in the International Chemistry Olympiad , He has won the Science Fair in his state, He has competed in ski, and is on the leadership team
James High School GPA goes the following
9th grade - 4.0
10th grade - 4.0
11th grade - 3.9
12th grade - 4.0
Cumulative GPA - 3.98
Has taken 8 AP Classes
He is on the leadership team, he is a basketball player, he is chess champion, he has interned at Bank of America
Who is the better candidate
@cinder gorge @cinder gorge
Ur saying this is a better example right?
Or just saying this is a hard example to know from just the context?
Student 2 sweeps. BOM internship is impossible to get. More APs + higher GPA. On top be is a chess “champion” I’m gonna assume that’s top 5-ish in his state.
Yeah it is hard too
He is like a high school intern at BOM
Bank of America offers internships for high schoolers
Well this is a very hard decision
Both the students are well qualified
Have a lot of extracurricular’s
Student 1 has the best chance getting into a selective college
@cinder gorge
A lot of people will say student 2 but is doesn’t look that appealing compared to student 1
From what I’m seeing
Student 2 has better grades and more APs
(Basically the same tho lol)
But student 2 and student 1 have insane ECs but if I were a college recruiter I’d rather someone with actual working experience
That’s is what you think
Ye ig but u asked for my opinion
But Ivy Leagues and Selective colleges prefer candidate 1 because first of all he is focusing on one skill and has done really good things in that field
Yeah Ik
u don’t know tbh
These college people r insane
Who knows what goes in their head
?
Both applicants r really good
But student 2 has much more rigor
fr
Do you think I should do Advanced Pre-Calculus or Dual-Credit Pre-Calculus?
One of my teachers said that you should do AP over DC classes, but this is just an advanced class.
Dual Credit Pre Calculus
Is the better choice
You should
If they offer AP Calculus AB take it
ap precalc seems interesting but really hard because it’s an ap but a regular class at the same time
also dual credit precalc is just weird
I feel like ap pre calc is probably more impressive @undone grove
He said advanced pre calc
Not advanced placement pre calc which doesn’t even exist
he’s probably referring to ap
it’s new for 2023-2024 so next year
I do not think so by his message
nvm
I thought selective colleges/unis also select students who can pay them back? Does this include scholarships?
Are you talking about the ivys
Yeah. I read it somewhere that if they think this student can help pay them back, they'll select them. It's not my opinion, I just read it from somewhere else.
I don’t think that is how it works
In scholarships yes, that is if you write a letter why you should get one. It's why I asked if what you were talking about are those students applying for scholarships as well. I think I read yours wrong. Again, it's not my opinion. I've read from multiple resources that unis are selective, sometimes based on your academic level background, but also if you can be a potential person to help pay them back. But maybe they're also wrong. I don't know
I want to take an agriculture course for my college but as of now, I'm having a hard time to understand chemistry (Mostly science stuff) but I want to really take agriculture. Actually idk what to do...
Wait. AP Pre-Calc is going to be a thing?
It’s being added next year but it may take a while for schools to place it in their courses
Ok I thought it was a scam
But it isn’t
I thought you were lying
@fickle rivet also AP African American History is coming too
lol
I think that one needs more experimentation cuz the student body is going to be pretty low
unless it counts as like a requirement somewhere
Yeah
Like not many students will take it
Yeah that’s a component of the admissions selection
No way 💀
Ig I’m just gonna take the test next year
Just take AP Calc AB or BC
Aren’t they better than AP Pre calc?
I’m taking the test only
I might get some college credit
Oh but don’t they have to offer that specific AP class to administer the test?
I’ll drive an hour to somewhere that does lmao
lmao
lmao
my dads forcing me to take all computer science classes throughout highschool including ap computer science
i literally have no say in it
so how beneficial is it
im planning on going into corporate law
It sucks that he's forcing you to take CS classes against your will, but even if you're going into corporate law, it won't hurt. Computer Science is widely applicable and is always nice to know.
Do all but make sure you have spare subject slots to do courses that you really enjoy. 💗
I’ve heard it’s the worst class ever
I didn’t take it but I did the summer prep course and that was bad enough
Honestly gets a bad rep it isnt that bad
(Im doing it rn so maybe i didnt get to the hard stuff but still)
hi so currently my second semester schedule is this:
- english 10
- public speaking / ap world history
- creative writing honors / choir
- chemistry i honors
and im gonna change it to - english 10 honors
- choir/ap world history
- chemistry i honors
- algebra ii
does the second one look better or should i keep the first?
you have multiple regular chems?
my school has one for every period i meant like switching chem from 4th to 3rd
yea cause its fourth and third period we also have chem ii if thats what you mean
Is it better taking ap lang or ap lit junior year?
I am also taking 3 other ap classes
Ap stats
Ap push?
If it’s worth it
And ap physics 1 & 2
I would never take lang or lit (personally because I’m crap at language arts)
Stats is very easy more like a writing class than a math class
Ap US History is pretty hard but doeable
Physics 1 is free as hell
Physics 2 is too much info to learn in a year so the scores come shit for people
Probably AP lang first because it’ll help you when writing essays for AP lit and it is commonly taken before
^
lmao
better than physics 1 though
Lol
My school just has a hella hard regular physics so physics 1 is pretty easy
oh lmaoo
i took ap phys without normal
that prob made it hard
but ap physics makes math feel so much easier for sum reason
same
they made the physics c teacher also the regular physics teacher at mine
so what is a good gpa if you want to get into like
princeton or smthn
i dont want to go to princeton but what is a good gpa
weighted i mean
anything above 3.8
depends on course load
like 8 ap classes then probably 3.5
unweighted
Lmao same lol
I’ve been told I have no chance at any t20 CS with my 3.85 😭 but people get in with worse scores all the time
i meant weighted
well
yeah
its really not possible to get below a 4.0 weighted
just need a D and a A or a C and a B
so 69.5 and a 79.5 and you still have a 4.0
For IVY
I’d recommend
I’d probably recommend a 4.1+ (I’m not an AO I’m going off the people ik that went to IVYs)
oh ok
then i should be fine
im targeting 4.6
what courses do u ppl recommend in grade 10
10 or 11
Whatever you can manage
depends what are offered
how stressful is chemistry? I want to take it next year (11th) but people say it’s torture
got it, thank you
if it’s a required course then you have to take it
unless ur referring to like ap chem or something
What type of science should I take next year for 10th grade?
Im taking biology 1 this year
What should I take next year
Hello! I'm an 8th grade student planning out my high school career (I'm 14 please don't smite me gohar mods), and I just want to ask if I should take Precalc BC or Algebra III before taking AP Calc BC?
My school offers both AP and IB courses, with the option of taking a FULL IB courses for the IB diploma OR individual IB and AP classes. What would be the best option when applying to competitive US universities like ivy leagues? (Definitive answer please)
I would suggest Precalc BC as it is more specified for AP calc bc and would better prepare you
IB diplomas are beter
better*
because
they provide you with an actual rigorous curriculum with college level writing
and relations
There is absolutely no difference
To clear things up
If you take AP or IB colleges will not prefer one over the other
Neither the AP or IB is better than each other
should i do japanese 3h or finance?
Which one do you prefer
they're both classes i wanna take but which one would be more useful
Honestly Finance is a more beneficial class
ah that makes sense
how do I become un ibed
myp
I take earth science now, should I take bio and chem honors together in 10th grade? Or just bio honors?
Language is very goodd
take language
japanese 3h
IB is significantly better, because while AP is individual courses, IB is an entire diploma program and is significantly more rigorous. If you want an ACTUAL college program experience, do IB, but do AP if you just want credit.
And I'm not bias because I'm myself doing the AP program
Is CS or IT better for college?
Depends, do you want to be a doctor?
Or anything stem related?
Guys what science course should I take 10th grade
I’m taking biology 1 currently in 9th grade
But what science course 10th
I want to major in physics and astronomy
Ok I would only do one of bio or Chem
Junior year do ap physics if your school allows it
Bro I was taking to him
And I doubt he will use Japanese unless he is going to visit Japan
Like I said dude no one is better than the other one
You can’t make that false claim
Or live there
hey can someone pls tell me the difference between computer systems engineering and computer engineering?
It's not the language that matters. it's the fact that he takes a language and accomplishes it that matters
I think the main difference is that while a computer systems engineer maintains and tests and records computers using math analysis, a computer engineer actually makes it?
It's not a false claim
It is way harder than Ap
and a college level program
and like I said
I'm not ever going to deal with the IB program
so I can't have bias
Dude honestly just stop talking
Clearly you do not know what you are talking about
You are spewing nonsense
Dude what? What is the point of taking a language course and never using it
Take chem and physics by 11th grade
ah okay thank you
guys what's environmental science ap about
environmental science.
energy resources, the atmosphere, the ocean, pollution, bio diversity, ecosystems etc
Ok, so now we are going to go to ad hominem
I love how you say I am spewing nonsense but you utilize logical fallacies
whoever originally asked this question...
If you want the experience of a rigorous, REAL college program, take the IB diploma program(not individual courses), given that your high school offers it
But
If you want invidual difficult courses and higher chances of credit, AP is the way to go
In my opinion, IB is better because it is the more difficult and college-like program, where writing is more prominent, where in AP there is writing, but in many cases other than English or Capstone it is not expected to be of that much quality
And another thing....
IB is more oriented to a curriculum, while AP is more oriented to preparing you for the end of the year exam.
This is my plan
Yeah because you are
Most sources agree that neither IB or AP classes are better than each other, they are both good classes
Do AP Psychology junior year instead of that other thing unless you’re passionate about photography or something
All I’ll say is that it seems like I’m IB classes you actually learn stuff
AP classes are literally just learn the material and take the exam
I think that’s what I’ll do
Do you have an idea of what you want to major in
Yeah but you agree with me that they do not effect your chances at colleges
If you take one over the other
Only if your school offers both
If your school only offers AP they can’t say “hmmm no IB classes” and reject you
And Vice versa
Psychology, law, or culinary
Also like AP and IB courses are not better than each other
Can we also agree with that
Because they both are rigorous courses
That’s all dependent on a number of factor like teacher, subject, curriculum, student, etc.
There is no definitive answer
Yeah but we are talking generally
There’s too many factors to determine a general answer
It’s better to take IB courses if your school offers it
That’s a whole college level program that emphasizes actual writing and critical thinking. AP is just test prep for a college level exam
Yeah do AP Psychology junior year then
Focus on your humanities classes
Okay
IB and AP both add 1 point to your GPA, so, they should generally be equally as hard
Yes
They would have different topics and curriculums, but they shouldn’t be harder than one another
Maybe consider doing some easier STEM courses cause those don’t matter as much for you
Like maybe regular physics instead of AP 1
Up to you though
We only have physical science and AP physics 1, and the teacher is a coach of mine and would be a very good college rec
Please don't use any logical fallacies, and especially not ad hominem
They add 1 point to your GPA because they are both college level
But college level doesn't make them equally as hard
Think about this
A college like Harvard would be WAY harder than a community college
Both are college level
And another thing
While AP is individual courses
IB is an entire diploma program
and IB is more writing oriented, which makes it more difficult and college level, whereas in AP, there's three history courses where you write(And that in my experience is based on HOW much you write) and 4 ELA courses where of course you have to write(So only a total of 7 courses)
I said all of this before, but @cinder gorge simply just ignored this and decided to continue to attack me, not my argument.
And you would see
that in college
Essay writing is common for every course
you do,,
which IB accomplishes
Not to mention IB is international while AP is national
@austere tulip tell me how do you know this stuff
hey
does anyone know which ap classes are like way easier than others and its just an easy A to my gpa and transcript?
AP Stats, AP world geography, AP economics, AP Computer Science Principles
uhm my school doesn't offer AP comp sci principles
i mean they have AP comp sci and i realised Oh shit i can learn all that in a month and take that class lol
since i already know how to code in python
AP Psychology
they don't have that either
What AP’s do they have
let me get a list right quick
Ok
It's a lot since its a big school
AP lang, AP lit, Ap calc ab, ap calc bc, ap statistics, Ap bio, ap environmental science, Ap chem, Ap physics, AP us history, Ap world history, AP us government, ap european history, AP spanish language, Ap art history, ap studio art drawing, ap studio art 2d design, ap music theory, Ap computer science A
thats all of them
I guess you can do AP environmental science
i already plan to take Ap calc ab and ap calc bc, and ap stat, and ap art history
you can already tell by the amount of times i used and in that sentence that i am not going into ap lang or ap lit
Oh ok
If you’re a math person AP Calc AB is very easy
i am
AP Env Science
AB will be very easy then
i got a. 96 in pre-cal and i'm taking pre-cal in 10th grade 💀
so i can take ab and bc lol
AB is very easy BC is a little harder but still not that bad
Same Lmao
nice
id ask what school you go to since theres a high chance we go to the same school but thats private info so i'm not gonna ask lol
I’ll just say I’m in Southern California
AP Lang is easy too
Pretty much everything is completion
well for juniors who are usually in pre-cal, they get to decide to go to ab or bc and since i'm the first class of my school to take pre-cal in 10th grade theres no precedent for it yet so we don't know
ok but hear me out, If i take ab in 11th and bc in 12 thats 2 free ap classes that boost my gpa instead of one
That is true but there’s also AP stats
Which is very easy
It’s up to you though
I just have a lot of friends in AB and it seems like a waste of time
i plan to take that in 12th grade as well lol
Bet Lmao go for it
@hollow finch what grade are you in
11th
Okay
Could I get some help with courses I'm heading into 9th grade
So my advice is do not start taking AP courses yet
Wait until you are a sophomore
Take as many honors courses as you can
Well in 9th for me there is only one and I'm not taking it because it's a lot of work I'm not ready for
Okay what is the class
AP wise
AP human geography
Oh that class
Yeah I would say skip until Sophomore year
Also @unreal hawk are you trying to apply for top colleges as well?
I don't really know because I'm only in 8th I have not really thought about that far in my school years
Ok but if you want to go to a top college remember your extracurricular’s matter a lot
I would say your extracurricular’s matter more than the AP’s you take tbh
Well also you need to take 2 years of a language so Spanish or something else to even get into collages here
Yeah also if you want to get into a top college you need 4 years of language
I'm basically having trouble chosing my electives
What are the elective choices
Could I DM you instead because it's a lot of classes
Ok sure
So a friend of mine wants to be an architecture. Does she need to AP classes in math or not? Do you guys have subject recommendations she could also take?
Yes AP Calculus AB should be fine
I don’t think BC is necessary for architecture
why are you a helper in everything lol
AB and BC
Essential
Do computer science if you can
Should I do Spanish Four, which is an honors class? I am currently a Sophomore in Spanish Three, and a lot of kids say that you should not do Spanish Four. I think it would be worth it for Spanish Four so I can stay in practice.
Do Spanish 4
Don’t listen to them
Okay.
the higher u go the harder it is
I would recommend taking BC if you can do math. Don't need AB. Instead, you could take Calc III or Stats
I know this stuff because my cousin is in the IB program and I am in the AP program
I would say you should definitely take human geo. As I've heard, yes there will be many quizzes but it's not that difficult, as long as you can use flashcards to learn vocab. Always start early to do AP classes, because Human geo can prepare you for later classes that are harder. And also, by getting rid of one AP in your easier freshman year, you can take more APs later.
Don't only think about your GPA boost
Think about your knowledge
Idk if it's in your school, but in our school, we have Calc III which we can take after BC. It is multivariable calc and it's honors. Also, you have a chance of getting dual credit cuz it is college level. My advice is, take AP courses, but don't take redundant or "useless" AP courses just for the GPA boost. Think bigger picture.
Dude it’s unnecessary
For freshman’s
Like he can do it sophomore year
I don’t think AP courses should be taken for freshman’s
And also he said he isn’t going to take AP courses
yet
For us, we have to have an extra science class for college
Our school will be adding it to the course catalog in a few years
I find it interesting that so many schools let you go straight to Calc BC. At mine, the teacher covers all AB content in about a quarter as more of a review so it’s basically impossible to take BC first unless you study calc over the summer
It's not unnecessary. It is an introductory AP courses. I mean...think about it. It would prepare you better if you took a really easy AP course just to get used to it. And yeah, he said he isn't, that's why I'm recommending him to do it. It's always better to start early if you can handle. And Ap courses can be taken for freshman.
I think that he should explore his freshman year and not take any AP courses because he doesn’t need it yet
Do it for your Seal of Biliteracy
I’m in AP Spanish 4 right now and tbh it’s way easier than Spanish 3
It’s barely an AP course
It’s so easy
Every freshman should do AP Human Geo it’s a great intro to college level work while being a very straightforward class
There’s a reason it’s for 9th graders it’s not supposed to be hard
I coulda used this earlier. I’m an aspiring doctor taking Apush like wtf am I doing ☠️
me too
My school's requirement for the Seal of Biliteracy is this:
Usually it’s just an A or B in Spanish 4 and a passing grade on the English SBAC
That’s the same for my school
Dude quick question what is your dream college for medical school
Mhm
?
That just means yep
Oh ok
what would i need to take in hs for mechanical engineering
physics ig
do you know what type of math is required too
My school doesn't offer calc 3, if they did i would fucking take it LMAO
any sort of calculus i assume
Physics and Calculus
What classes should I take in Highschool if I want to major in astronomy and physics
Well…physics
Okay I specifically need a british person to help me with this. I havw to start picking my sixth form subjects, i know i wanna do psychology at uni but im not sure what to pick for my a-levels, i was thinking english, psychology and chemistry but im not sure
Do you think taking AP Chemistry and AP Biology in the same year is a good idea? My friend is doing it, and I kind of want to do it. However, I do not want to stress myself out by doing it.
Well...
Matters
What are you thinking of doing in the long run?
So far, I am thinking something in technology or pharmacy.
Okay.
What courses are you taking this year?
Honors English 10
AP World
Honors Chemistry
Honors Algebra II
Choir
Spanish III
Gym (Requirement)
Career Pathways (Requirement)
Yes.
There might be a few days that I have a lot of work, but it is manageable.
Here are the courses I want to do next year:
AP Lang
Dual Credit Pre-Calc (Unless they offer AP Pre-Calc next year)
AP Bio
AP Chem
AP Gov
Choir
Spanish IV (Honors)
congrats on becoming a mod @austere tulip
i would've congratulated you earlier but you're on offline mode so it's hard to know when you're actually here
@austere tulip congrats man
Depends AP Chem is a nightmare but AP Bio is much more dependent on the school
So if you have a good teacher then go for it
Are you stronger in STEM or Humanities?
I am not sure.
AP chem is good
You just need to know what you are doing
It again just depends on the teacher
The teacher at my school is so bad the other teachers know
I am in Honors Chemistry, and my teacher also teaches AP Chem.
And she is a good teacher.
Not sure about AP Bio though.
Try asking around
Okay.
I have to agree
Do you want to major in something STEM related?
If the teacher is trash then that is a bad sign
Either something with computers or pharmacy.
should i take both stats and ap calc at the same time next year?
would a stats class be important
Also one of the easiest AP courses
well it depends for what
I personally find myself to be using statistics way more often than any other math like algebra and calculus in my daily life
Yeah I’ve heard it’s not even much math Lmao
Statistics is also fun
but here's the thing
Calculus is fun too
calc will be more useful if ur going into a stem field or something that required somewhat advanced math
if u think u can handle taking both then sure why not
Ikr
how useful would stats be if i were to go into a comp science field?
mainly game development stuff
i honestly don't know much about what courses and things computer scientists use
try asking in #majors
Thanks!
Thanks!
This is fine for Junior Year
on second thought i'll just replace stats with finance since i probably really need it
i suck with money
so this is what i will submit to my counselor:
AP Physics 1
Economics H / US Gov
CSU ERWC (English 12CP)
Japanese 3H
AP Calculus AB
Financial Algebra
after careful consideration by me (thinking about every possible alternate future)
👍
Nice
What do you guys think of my course selection so far? I’m in the middle of my sophmore year at the moment and could use some advice
Instead of it being called math int 3 honors, my school just puts a plus in the front
I heard that calc ab doesn’t offer as much units for college and only goes through half of a college course of calculus, but bc goes the through much more content and yields a greater outcomes for colleges units
But i haven’t fact-checked that so I could be wrong
im in 9th grade rn and im wondering what classes should i take if i want to have the highest chances of getting into a good med school
ik a lot of science like ap bio and ap chem but idk what i should do for 10th grade
also ap calc or ap stat?
Guys, I am planning to pursue economics for my higher studies and I am really interested in it...
Do you have suggestions about what course should I take. (India for ug)
Which grade u in?
I have completed ib nov 2022
Ibdp
ooh interesting
So you wanna take finance or marketin?
there's many options in india for a ug
theres a bba/bcom i think
Under economics we have finance and marketing? 🤔
oh
I thought it is only for bm...
ahh
No mixture
What's the difference between ba and be?
- people dont take an "Arts" degree too seriously in india (shouldn't affect u if ur gonna go outta the country after this, and ur uni/college is good)
- Depends on the college/uni. Go through their syllabus before commiting
Also @lone shore how was the IB? Im plannin on taking it from next year
Im contemplating between state and ib
Take ib
Yea sure
thanks :)
Any more suggestions you all?
I’m currently a freshman in Spanish 1, but I’m not sure if I should stop at AP Spanish 4, or AP Spanish 5. I know it might be a little early but I could use some suggestions, thanks!
You can only go up to 4 unless you do one over the summer
I suggest stopping at 4 unless you want to do something like international affairs that requires speaking another language
Ok thanks! One more question- would you do one over the summer for AP Spanish 4 in Junior year? I’ve been thinking about that so I have an extra slot for another class.
That would be a good idea
This is true
Calc AB stretches a quarter of college calculus over an entire year
its kinda sad
My school only offers ab
Then there’s nothing you can do and I’m truly sorry about that
@hoary pawn you can self study calc BC while taking calc AB and take both tests at the end of the year. Or you can enroll at a college and take real calculus courses. Does your high-school offer dual-credit? There are more options than you think!
hm
i don't think my school lets you take the exam if you don't have the course
i might try dual enrollment
idk i'll see later
you dont take the exam through your school, take it through college board
is the capstone certification for college worth it? (ap research & ap seminar)
Fr
Any recommendations for my courses? I can provide info about what my school offers by request (currently a freshman)
Also I have to find out what a lot of my school's tech electives are because I have absolutely no clue the difference between some of them or the main idea of some of them
But this is what I have for now
hard classes
Harvard ready
My goal is MIT
Mit ready
Thank you
just don't forget about volunteering, making a good impression on teachers and staff, and extracurriculars
I appreciate the encouragement, hard to come by
Alright, thank you again for the input (sorry if I'm being too formal, just don't really know what to say otherwise)
you're fine lol.
Okay, I'll be going now, have a good night (or day)
You too.
Hi all
I am planning to do bsc economics....
But I want to do it with finance or Data science...
Any ideas on this or what can I mingle bsc economics with?
Yes, the capstone program is worth it because it is gaining more recognition as time goes by.
Honestly,
I would recommend taking the capstone program is your career plan is STEM, because it is more research based, but if your career has to do with the Humanities, take the AP English courses
I think this is a really good courseload. Except, I would change one thing, because AP lang before AP lit is usually helpful.
I'm pretty sure AICE Lang is the same thing, just from the Cambridge program instead of AP
I specifically chose AICE for any English or history classes available in the program, for two reasons; One is that I would personally prefer slightly less rigor in English and History (Mostly English), and the second reason is that I feel like an international program would provide a different look at world and US history
Oh ok
I didn't know whatt AICE was
I thought it was honors or something
But yes
that's a great idea
Yeah, I believe in the US it's currently only prominent in Florida
Thank you
Next year I’m going to be heading into high school, I already have a pretty clear plan of what I’m going to do but I’m unsure about my world language. My school offers Spanish, French, Chinese, and American Sign language all of which I have had no practice in. I’m indecisive because Starting high school I’ll be doing a lot of harder classes and I’m wondering if Chinese is a good choice. I have ruled out French but I’m stuck between the three with Chinese being the hard rout and American Sign Language or Spanish being an easier rout. I have had experience with Italian which I believe is somewhat simular to Spanish. What do you guys think?
if yk italian i say go for spanish
if you live in the us it’ll help to know spanish too since it’s widely spoken here
hi i recently started my college but i also wanna learn other courses but cant choose one . my college doesnt have much classes so i have enough time to start with some other course so i just need some guidance about which course to go for in tech
I am doing AICE as well 🤟
For tech, try taking computer science courses, math courses, and physics courses
So I'm in 8th grade with no honors classes should I take ap human geography, honors biology, or both
Ap human geo is very easy
Great freshman year class
Did you take coaching and college simultaneously or just college or just coaching
Please help
K thanks Parker kou
Do you live in the USA and if so do you live in Tx, if you do 1000% take Spanish because most of the people there speak Spanish and will help you later in life
But I think you should really take French or Spanish
French is fancy Lmao
But French is really cool
No
In my opinion,
French is just good
cuz it's french
And also
don't use that word
Bon appetite
What word
The b word
Be careful dude
Mods can mute for stuff like that
I’ve literally sweared in this chat like 20 times Lmao ☠️
Yeah try that in #general
It’s not going to go too well
Good
Don’t go there
I learned the hard way
Oh boy
Yeah don’t want to mess around there
merci
alright! thnx!
¿
Idk how those go together so I’m not much help Lmao
I want to take these classes next year, are they good?
Biology Honor
Geometry Honor
World History/Honors maybe
ELA CCP1
Astronomy I
Astronomy II
Spanish I
Intro to photography
In total it is 7 1/2 credits
Should I take AICE Environmental Management (AICE is Cambridge version of AP) or Astronomy Honors (I prefer Astronomy) next year
(Keep in mind, since I prefer Astronomy I would also be able to self study it a lot more, as well as more effectively/be able to take it online more effectively)
Take Astronomy if you prefer it
My school take astronomy as an elective so I can’t take honors astronomy
What do y’all think?
Alright, I probably will
Was originally gonna do enviro but didn't see that astronomy was in the courses
It’s the best bet, if you enjoy that class then u will do better
Yeah, was just still deciding since environmental is something new + it's an AICE class
But I'm going to do astronomy
Thank you
yeah np
Should I take these classes? My school says if u take bio it looks good for college but I rly wanna take chem. Or even take bio and chem. Should I take chem and bio or just bio or just chem
that’s freshmen year
Yeah this is great. Especially if you have an inclination towards the earth and space sciences, astronomy and photography is great. World history will kind of help too. And I guess geometry as well
If you prefer astronomy, take astronomy. But if AICE has astronomy in their course then take that.
Thanks! There are course that my school recommends to students such as world history so I kinda have to take it
Yo they just stripped you of your mod position for no reason
thats sad
Currently a sophmore, I'm considering taking these junior year:
- My 3rd year of JROTC
- Honors algebra 2 (I took regular algebra 1st year, too late to do anything about it ig...)
- Honors chemistry (I took intro to chemistry and physics, kinda similar situstion to algebra) idk if I can or should do AP Chemistry 🤷
- Considering taking AP lang if I do good this year in english, which I kinda am.
- I took AP Computer science this year, I don't know what I should do here at this point.
- I don't have to take a gym class, ever again, idk what to do here either.
- I took AP Spanish language and culture this year as a sophomore, I don't know what to do. Should I take another Spanish class?? Like what...
- I will probably take APUSH
I did wanna dabble with ap psych and ap stats but I'm not sure if I can do that and take algebra 2 at the same time? What are your thoughts, questions... suggestions?
Should I take ap stat? Like is it worth it?
depends on the teacher but i’d say yes
Worth it in regards to what? It's probably some of the more practical high-school math you could learn so in that regard I would definitely say it is worth it.
You’re done with Spanish unless you wanna do Spanish Literature
But I’d just use that as an extra elective spot for something easy like AP Psychology
Between Geography, History and English Literature, which subject should I choose
I'm scoring decent for all 3 subjects
Ikr he didn’t even do anything to deserve that
👍
They removed me because I was not experienced enough, not for no reason. It's fine.
But anyways
Thanks for your concern!
I'll share my opinion
AP stats is not very useful
If you're done with Calc,
Then take Calc III, Linear Algebra , and other complex maths instead
they may not be AP, but they are better in my opinion
Take AP lang, If you took AP comp sci, is there any advanced topics course you can take? Or like some other supplementary course? Since you don't have a gym class, go ahead with Psych. And if you finished AP Spanish Lang, you can take Spanish Lit, or some kind of Independent study option. Or else, if you are stem oriented take an engineering course, or else yes take stats, it does not really interfere with Algebra II. And yes, go with APUSh.
There's data structures, but I dunno... I've got a C so far and the topics are fine in comprehension but in functionality with problems, I struggle, also pretty sure it isnt an AP class. Not giving up hope though on doing good! I will probably take psych, I'm not really sure if i should take lit, I saw one of the units being medieval and thought that was cool. I'm not really STEM related, I kind of like humanities more but stats supposedly is useful (my ap csa teacher recommended it)
If anyone can, can they give me some course recommendations for someone who wants to go into medical
BTW I'm going to grade 9 next year so I'm kinda stressed
9th next year too
ay
Well I'm not into medical stuff so can't really give u advice
u don't mind me asking but what are u interested in then
I'm in science
scince like phsics, bio, chem or
Basically we have
Biology
Chemistry
And Physics
yea
Lol
I suck at essays
Take data structure if you can. Data structures is the most fundamental part of computer and science. ANd think about the knolwedge, not whether it's AP or not
My school recommendeds me taking bio but I’d like to take chem, will it affect how colleges look at me if I don’t take bio?
bio is required in most states to graduate
It’s not required to graduate, it’s recommended because colleges like it. If I don’t take bio and take chem, will that affect how colleges look at me?
no
but if ur going in a field bio related
then maybe
regular bio doesn’t mean much to colleges
Should I try getting an associates degree in highschool?
I’m doing astronomy and astrophysics
In Highschool? I’m confused. An associates degree is 2 years in college
AP stats is really useful
It helps you understand graphs
And plus it is a easy AP
Yeah I would say so because AP stats is not that hard and stats are useful to know in later life
AP Statistics, AP chemistry, and AP Biology if you are interested in AP courses for the medical field
But you can take regular statistics, regular biology and regular chemistry if you want
who tf takes regular statistics
Me
You could dual enroll for it
Thanks
How difficult is ap music theory?
pretty difficult if ur new to music
but if you know a bit
it shouldn’t be too hard
Yeah many people say it is...But for sme reason, I just consider Calc superior. Cuz I feel like stats is mostly common sense, and that a class isn't necessary for it. But yes, I understand where you're going
It's a choice
for college stats isn’t as good as calc unless u do calc before
I am mainly a stats person
And science person
Not really a Calculus person
For some reason
science uses both
Ik
Analysis of graphs and data
I know Science uses them
depends which sciences tho
Chemistry and Biology
Physics is bad
cancelled
lol
Kinetic and Potential Energy equations
Yeah
except thermodynamics
Those give me nightmares
What do you not understand about chemistry
I forgor all of it
and don’t wanna remember any of it
unless Walter white comes to my school
Good
You passed the test
I tried a little bit of trigonometry did not like it
what was it
Like angles and those stuff
bruh
I agree
When written mathematically it gets a little confusing because u have to memorize the formulas and all but when you break down the formula such as g=f/m^3 (gravity equals force and mass) it gets easier
Please don’t bring up physics
It’s my worst nightmare
is it that bad?
lmao ap physics is easier than reg at my school
Same w most classes
too bad u don’t have it
Chem on some occasions is easier
Nah it’s fine I have AP chemistry
lmao my school has all sciences
If you know basic math and the 4 states of matter you pretty good already
even apes
elaborate
physics C
Yeah
only big brain kids get to physics c tho
Have you done AP Physics C
no
Because I have heard it is a hard class
We got, AP chem, physics, bio
physics C is the hardest to get into
One of the hardest AP’s
What requirements
must be taking calc
that’s already a barrier for like 1/2 of the grade
and then it being a 11-12 grade class
Any other
so basically it’s a 12th grade class
Oh
He must have had a bad grade
and then there’s this kid who’s in 10th and is taking ap physics c
nah he’s smart
he’s also taking chem
and bc
and lang
and apush
💀
he’s sleep deprived af
Did you ask what was he’s grade in the class
What's the difference between ap calc ab and ap calc bc?
ab is for noobs
Damn kids a prodigy if he had that grade
yes
There's just smart kids
yes
yes
