French is common in big schools
Italian is irrelevant
Otherwise I think it offers everything else
Oh yeah
It doesn’t offer@comp gov
As well
who tf offers comp gov
😭
like 5 people take comp gov
LMAO they shouldve had used better
better... idk words?
it stands for college prep but it is really just grade level
ye
Wow
not to mention "Floral design"
U guys have so many specific courses
I don’t have irrelevant agricultural courses lol
U got that from roasting every Ap
"AB is for kids who are too scared to go into BC"
"BC is for kids who just wanna show off on the AB kids" 😭
I think ima take bc
Yeah
Lol
Imma take Bc too
next year
autocorrect be like
Yeah
my school doesnt even offer
ap physics c
ap music theory
ap macroeconomics
honors chem
0 period idek
ap research
or any seminar
Ohh
LMAO im a sophomore
Then what 14 courses r u going to take
im taking AB as sophomore which is nice so far
I wanna take physics c but I wanna go into med field and only have a year left so I have to take bio
That’s pretty good
also physics c is probably gonna be hard cuz I’m bad at math
But tbh econs not that good
should I self study macro
Sophomore(right now):
Adv Eng 10
AP Human Geography
Body Building(just weight lifting PE)
CP CHEM(i should be in AP i requested it and all my friends who requested it the same way I did got it but i guess they "got full")
Studio Art(forced into this elective, I wanted AP COMP SCI)
AP World History
AP Calculus AB
hacks
Junior:
APUSH(or CPUSH i havent decided)
AP English Language
AP CALC BC
Spanish 2
AP comp sci principles
AP CHEM
AP Physics 1
my sophomore year is trash compared to urs lol
do u have labs
I know at my school I need a study hall period for the higher ap sciences like chem
Senior:
Civics/Econ(Forced by school for all students)
AP Eng Lit. & Comp
Spanish 3 honors(idk if i should do 3rd year spanish, might replace it with a worthy AP)
AP Comp Sci A
AP Stats
AP Biology
AP physics 2
i dont think so? it might come around next year or senior year. We just got a couple new classes like AP HUG and... well AP arts&history of floral.... why. such. a. useless. class.
and other grade level or cp courses too
i thought c was after 2?
u can go directly from 1 to c
i guess its because not enough teachers maybe
mmm interesting
2 is just the middle man for no reason
what was ur sophomore year like
so kind of like pre-calc ? 😭
ye
ohh
we just have everything in a bundle
oh integrated?
dumb name convention
IM2
but I get it
i did im3 over summer, 100% on the course it was so easy, took it through BYU great choice
i aced precalc exam
did well on calculus readiness exam
and got into calc ab
wait does ur school allow to go to bc from pre calc
welllll yes but thats like stepping back down
wdym
bc is like ab but two chapters more lol
and a bit faster
well for you
you have the time
IM1,2, and 3 ---> Precalc ---> AB ---> BC
|___>AP STATS
these are like the two routes
stats route or calc route
yesyes totally
thats whta everyone says LMAO
it is though
half of bc is just AB
yeahhh, i have done bc yet as yk so i cant really give much more input on that
it’s the same textbook too
im pretty good at calculus, i love math its my favorite subject always has been
this is what we use for AB
ye
im pretty sure we use this for BC(?)
Ron Larson mfs make all the textbooks
oh
my school just uses the same for both ab and bc
Lmao
oh thats so like cheap 😭
anyways I’m est so ima head off
my calculus class is only 45 minutes
because it is 7th period
i have it every single day tho
rip
so its kind of the same as the 1 hour and 30 minute regular block schedule courses
id rather die
8:30 until 10:00 first period
wtf
ok I thought u said lunch was 15 mins
and tutorial(idk if ur school has this) is 55 minutes
id sue the school at that point
💀 hell nah
the line better be 5 sec
THE LINE IS SO LONG
rearranged my 4 yr plan
That's good
However
I would recommend taking AP Spanish
sometime
hey so idk where to ask, but this seems like the right place.
rn I'm taking algebra but they said that they'll test me because I said I wanted to geometry. if I pass, and move on to geometry, what'll happen to the credit from algebra?
Smell fart is the credit
.-.
you pass the course and the credit is not distributed to u
it’s like a summer credit
if you took a summer course or something
because technically u didn’t complete their algebra
but u will complete their geometry
and go on to the next
ah ok ty
What is EDX
Thinking of becoming a surgeon, neurosurgeon in fact. Think I could get into a good college but that’s not my concern. I don’t know what classes I should take. I mean there’s classes like Human Anatomy and Biology but does anyone think there would be better classes that would reinforce my record?
well i don’t know what classes your school offers so it’s difficult to answer that question
I would think about what you wanna major in, in college and find classes related to that
What year did you guys take algebra 1?
5th grade
why tho 💀
Im already taking a class over AP Spanish level lmao
oh that wasn't clear
Spanish 1-3 are at my CC so basically Span 1 is HS Span 1-2, Span 2 is HS Span 3-4 and Span 3 is about the level of AP Spanish or intermediate conversation.
Oh ok
Then maybe take the exam?
more credits
actually don’t do the exam unless u know how to do it
cuz sometimes college courses don’t align
but i already have the credits it'd give lol
like I have the spanish credit that i'd get from the ap test, so it'd be useless
Seal of biliteracy?
But a lot of colleges won’t give credit for dual reneollement unless it is in the college where u enrolle in
Ohhh yeah, the college im going to will accept my credit
Seal of biliteracy
that sounds neat
tbh im not learning much lol
So if u are looking at a prestigious college
I learn enough to have a 105%
U might not have it
I plan on going to UC Berkeley
so some what Prestigious
Yeah
however, they will accept all of my units
yeah
California Community Colleges are awesome lmao
the things they wont except are the AP Tests that go towards my major
But they will actually accept calc and physics
physics C?
what are you gonna major in?
For engineering
ou
I was thinking of minoring in Aerospace engineering.
ou
yeah
But I’m like 5% on going to mit
Cuz like u need OP stats to get into mit
yeh
And my extracurriculars are not the best
You need to like cure cancer while taking 17 classes and going to harvard age 5
lmao
do you have any like
Cuz I know I can actually get in
in between lol
hm
idk Northwestern lol
idk i’m applying to Stanford and Cornell bc my mom wants me too, but i basically only plan on going to a UC lol
Oh ok
Wait
Follow up question
Are I taking fine arts
Cuz
U need to take it right
it’s not a requirement to graduate at my school but
I am in the top band and choir at my school n stuff
28 hours a week for band outside of school lmao
I’m going to apply to mit, northwestern, uiuc, and like another like really selective school
Yeah
i can only get waivers for some
Yeah
UC Santa Barbra is my safety, I’m applying to UCLA and Cal, and then Cornell and Stanford. I have a scholarship to cal poly already so that could be my backup but they don’t have my major so
but i plan on 5
My high school doesn’t do much dual enrollment
yeah
That’s pretty good
I mean my high school has this weird policy
Where u can get dual enrollment credit after finishing the course
But that’s at my community college
hm
So idk if they will affect me
go to your local cc on your own and enroll there like i did
my school doesn’t give credit or anything to college courses lol
y e a h
Ohh
it’s like more school lmao
When does ur school end
that depends lmao
So mine starts at 8:45 and ends at 3:25
mine starts at 8:30 Mondays tuesdays and fridays and 8:46 on wednesdays and thursdays
we have 0 period at like 7 too
Do u guys have a block schedule
on wednesdays and thursdays yes
Oh ok
wed are even periods, thurs are odd
But our zero hour only has PE
And I will not get up if I were to have to do PE on the morning
That’s why I’m probably not gonna do that
i did it in middle school lmao
Oh
it was at 6:30 every morning
i took pe over the summer
It’s california heat so it’s 105-110 the entire time but
Oof
i pulled some strings
i was the only one there that didnt gail
Oh
fail
We have to do PE during the school
But we can do health during the summer
But that just means e have to do more PE during the school
i did health over summer freshman year
Cuz our state cares about our health
So we have to have physical education every year
my district requires 4 years of pe while my state only requires it 2
Tho
I will take early bird science
Cuz the ap sciences are 67 min or so
Rather than 45
apes lab 💀
Lol
during the summer i work, take 3 classes, continue with mock trial n stuff,
depends, it’s just a summer job
And are the three classes summer classes
I’m planning to do a summer job
at my college ye
Probably like tutoring or something
they are very challenging and fast paced but i learn a lot
i took two this year and my third was an hs class for pe and loves them
yep u to
freshman year
it’s a good job but not worth the pay , median salary is like 100k a year
Is that bad?
It’s the median salary
So it also goes up with experience
And that’s 6 figures as well
Hi everyone, I am about to go into high school and want to know if an IB course helps you to get into a good college.
Well…
Taking an IB course proves that you can challenge youself
So yes
Take it
However
I would take the entire diploma program
Rather than just one course
Wait "about to go into high school" bro idk where u live, but for me the school yr just started a few months ago.
Can anyone help me pick my courses for freshman year (i moved so instead of going to freshman year this year i'm just not going to school and preparing)
For context, i took spanish 2, biology, and algebra in 8th grade
I have the option of taking ap psychics 1 freshman year
but i also wanna continue spanish and double up on math (geometry and algebra 2)
and finallt as my commitment class for 4 years (and passion) i'm taking theatre
Don’t do this. It’s hell especially freshmen year
bruh what school allows ap phys 1 in freshmen year
it's an "academy"
most people in the school do tho
There are actually some schools
the only school in the district who allows it
if ur in the mindset of it then sure
My friends school has it
i'm not good at math but i am at science
oh and also, the ap hug teacher is absolutely horrible and fails everyone
Especially if you plan AP physics
should i take it or take just regular
Don't you think it would be better to double up math
Well
U said ur not good at math
And u are going to take ap physics
Which is basically math
So
That's true too
You’ll be taking triple math really
but geomtry is super super easy
wait how are u taking ap physics
did u do geo and a2
And yeah
i've only done a1
i'm a freshman (going into)
i don't think i can take ap world
did u ace a1
if u did then I think you’ll be fine
I’ve heard that’s easy
yeah but that's cuz the teacher just gave 100s but h had a tutor and u was fine
ok
I’m a freshman and i want to take AP classes but my school doesn’t have any AP classes
it was pretry easy tbh
What should I do?
respawn
Bet
Umm try seeing if you can do dual enrollment
And then just take the exams
Okay
wait ur doing geo and a2 in the same year?
I don’t think engineering counts as a science
Cu I’m taking digital electronics
Prow
Ptlw
And
computer science 💀
that's what i'm asking y'all, everyone in the school usually does that if u didnt take geo in 8th grade
I mean it’s a good idea but it requires a lot of effort
if u did take geo in 8th, you would take ap psychics
two years in one
physics
Id say if you can handle it
Do it
That’s a math
computer science should be a science!
No
because science!
😭😭
Just take a normal science
Like bio
Chem and physics
And tbh
Id recommend PLTW rather than AP comp sci
Ok
So for you
Id say
If you can handle it
Take two maths
That’s good
the only time people take two maths at my school is when they take precalc and ap stat
Yeah
very true
I have a friend doubling up on geo and a2
friend dead
He was originally taking both as honors
But he couldn’t handle it
even more dead
lmao my geo h teacher made the class 5 million times harder than regular
my lowest grade class
Well if your college won’t offer it then don’t take the exam
Wait
Is umichigan selective?
If it is then take the exam cuz u have a chance of going into another college which does accept it
Otherwise don’t
Oh ok
Then don’t take it
I mean Econ exams are accepted at other colleges too in case u apply to others
but Econ is prob useless for where u want to apply
ap exams cost 📈
lmao they should make that a question on the econ exam
That’s really not the whole story
A lot of colleges give scholarships
And like the average costs are in the 20k range
A lot of times less
Like mit
Which u said
(Every engineers dream)
Gives a lot of aid
Yessss
bruh if u think about it
Yeah that’s true
It’s the same with my family
We don’t have low income
But ours isn’t so high that we can afford colleges
college board makes upwards of 10 million per course just in exam fees
That’s what all middle class faces
dude i’m in the same exact situation
it sucks
and apush alone gives them $50 milllon
like yes i have money but no
Like for every aid program ur income should be less than 65000
“non profit”
But ours isn’t that low
Well they have to pay their testmakers and readers
like 1 dollar an hour sure
my dream school is free for under 100k
jk more like 30 an hour
It’s not that low for us
problem is that it’s princeton and i’m not getting in
rip
and i also still don’t make it into that range
The people in the 100-200 range
Have trouble
But they’re not actually rich
The poor people get aid and become rich
But talented middle class don’t
Cuz no aid
But to be fair to mit
Their average cost after aid is 14000
Or something
And that’s pretty good
And not to mention their top research programs are free
what high school classes should i take if i want to become a biochemical engineer
basically all math and sciences except like computer science and maybe like physics
Biochemistry is Biology and Chemistry, so obviously these two sciences as well as Physics (all engineers take and need physics) and an advanced math class like AP calc would be nice, but totally optional
If you still have the time and option, I’d suggest taking physics in a different year than when you’re taking chemistry
If you’re taking an advanced math class, you could take it in the same year as physics
i’m taking honors chem rn and apchem next year, so ap physics + ap calc senior year?
physics uses a lot of advanced math (ap calc) so I’d personally suggest taking (chem or bio) + calc junior year and then taking physics and the other one senior year
i think i’m gonna be in precalc next year😭
if you're gonna take calc then u might also wanna take calc-based physics and not algebra-based physics
it will be easier imo
and in college you use calc for physics so it'll save you time
alright thank u!!
im taking ap chem, ap calc bc, and ap physics 1, and spanish 4 this year. should i take ap physics c, multivar, ap spanish, ap bio, and ap stats and ap macro micro online next year?
why online
why not take it in school
so i can have free periods/replace them with other classes
ohhh...
Bu I feel like
u are taking every course online
I would recommend taking these courses during school and the other classes online
take the classes you actually want to learn something in in person
This year I volenteered to help my schools theatre department for community service but I found myself enjoying it more than I thought I would I wanna take theatre next yr but that would interfere with my other plan of taking DIT so I can then persue APCSP bc that’s what I want to major in
Which class should I take?
Here are the classes I am taking freshman yr of high school and my semester 1 grades beside them. Some of the ppl in my class are either taking algebra 2 or honors chem. If I didn't already take those courses this yr, but will the following yr (sophomore), does that lower my chance of getting into a good college/university?
No, that doesn’t lower your chances of getting into a good college.
Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up!
as long as u get past precalc which u probably will considering your summer plans then you should be fine in having a better chance for a good college
Should i take an ap course if it will appear as a regular course on my transcript?
The ap courses are weird cause they evaluate you based on the provincial curriculum but prepare you for the ap test
yes if you want the credit, no if you want the bragging rights
what will i brag about?
on your college application
that answers where. But what will I say, if I dont take the ap course?
idk i was referring to it just being on your transcript lol
Yeah, I'll be taking AP Calc BC or Stats or smth in 12th grade
I’m a freshman and i’m interested in computer science. Would it be a bad idea to take AP computer science A next year along with my regular math class, honors algebra 2? Will it be too hard to take as a softmore?
Currently a freshman in honors algebra 2, and I'm here to tell you that you don't have to worry at all about algebra 2
It's really simple(speaking from experiences in the class at my school) and is very similar to algebra 1
I think managing ap comp sci a with that is very much possible
Thank you. I’m not really all that worried about Algebra 2, though, from what I heard its not that bad. I was just wondering if comp sci was really hard and if it would just stress me out over math if I take two math classes
I don't think you should worry about comp sci a, it's a pretty easy ap class from what I've heard
lmao csp is literal 5th grade stuff
unless ur teacher makes it hard for some reason
Does your school offer regular compsci classes
if they do, they’re probably the classes that get you ready for AP so take those first
I’m not completely sure if you should jump head into ap compsci
bruh u don’t need anything for ap csp
in my school you do
you need to take comp sci 1-3 before taking AP
anyway if you’re talking workload Natha, I don’t believe it would be too bad
bruh u have to take 3 levels of it?
yeah but you can take 1+2 together if you’re in the honors track
bruh u have honors comp sci
yeah
lmao
we have a lot of stuff
honors gym
not that many lol
no ap gym
ap lunch course 😋
On the course selection sheet it only shows AP Comp sci A and Ap Comp Sci principles
are you expected to know a lot about coding to take it
how does taking an ap class compare to just taking an ap exam?
Would colleges prefer the class?
ap culinary be sick though
no
I mean u have to at least know how to block code
at minimum when you progress through the course
just in case anyone is wondering if AP Stats is too hard, this is what my class is doing rn
most of it so far is just review of algebra 2
are honors classes weighted the same as pre ap?
and are pre ap classes weighted the same as ap?
oh ok, thanks bro
i needed it to know what weight to select on the gpa calculator
lol
There’s an ap lunch??!!!!!
Ap dismissal
pre-ap classes are just honors classes they’re not officially ap
don't take this as fact btw, every school has different methods for calculating it
i'd email a counselor if you're trying to figure out how your gpa stacks up
good idea
thanks
Hey what do you guys think of my schedule for 9th grade next year
Honor algebra 2
Honor world history
Honors English one (maybe two I'm talking to my Ela teacher about it)
PE
French
Drama one
Intro to business
I don't know what to do for my science credit any ideas
Also I'm doing economics / business administration as my major in college
bruh how u gonna go into English 2 in 9th
honors bio?
Because I might do an English class over summer
At my school you can do one class over summer and cram it all
So I might cram all of English one and then do English 2 my freshman
wouldn’t u be with 10th graders tho
Yeah I'm going to be with 10th graders when I'm doing algebra 2 also
I'm essentially skipping a grade of that class
That's why I'm talking to my English teacher about if I should do it over summer or not
do other ppl do that
I mean u can also do a2 over the summer instead
Very true
cuz idk how beneficial English over the summer will be
True
unless u plan to not take a year of English
If I were to do algebra 2 over summer I could go to Rowan (my local college) to do calculus 2
In my senior year
Yea
same
Nice
but yeah if u do algebra 2 over the summer (not too hard if ur good at math) then u should be able to get way ahead
cuz some people are just starting algebra 1 in 9th lol
pre calc is also just a summary of algebra 2 anyways
@fringe barn
English over the summer seems excessive
also consider bio
Agreed 💯
i did bio for 9th grade.
hos many aps do you take for ivy league levels
yos have to take 0 for Ivy league levels
but in reality like 2-8 depending on how many ur school offers
wdym
you technically can get in without taking ap courses. for example, my schools doesn't offer them, so i can't get the boosted gpa. however, you can self-study, and take the exams, which i hope to do.
im on pace to do like 8 my school offers like 27
im only taking ap gov now im thinking about doing dual enrollment but im not sure
i don't think the ivies accept dual enrollment credits.
what about schools like emory
they might, if they don't count towards both hs and college credit, but it's only a possibility (for ivies).
lemme look into emory rq.
emory says they only accept dual enrollment credit that does not count towards hs credit.
oh
this should help about emory.
np !!
ap's only help if you get 4s and 5s on the exams tbh.
it may help your gpa look good, if you do well in the classes, but your application as a whole matters, not just grades.
for my school dual enrollments also counts as weighted
yep i know
in that case, it wouldn't count towards credit.
wdym
the dual enrollment classes probs won't count towards college credit, since they are being factored into your hs gpa.
however, it does show that you can handle the rigor of a college level class.
im not sure it would work for state schools either.
oh its just the state
i might just do extra courses then
so the 7 regular hs classes and dual enrollment im not sure
there's nothing wrong with taking ap's tho lol.
i just meant that you should consider the pros and cons.
oh in hs classes i meant mostly aps
im thinking ab taking
AP World
AP Bio (double period)
Latin 3
AP Calc AB
AP Physics (whichever idk)
AP Lang
my friend told me to not take ap courses that would go towards your intended major for college. i believe he majored in bio for pre-med, and he couldn't get credit for bio and chem, even tho he did well on those exams.
then senior id take
AP Lit
AP Phyc
AP Env Sci
AP Chem (maybe idk)
AP Stat
possible AP Calc BC
would it look better on college aps tho
it might. it could show that you're dedicated to bettering yourself as an intellectual.
but again, if you're looking at ivies or tier 2 schools, it's going to be harder to impress admissions officers and harder to receive college credit.
i need advice for what to do
next semester should i take chemistry honors and double up next year taking algebra ii and trigonometry or should i not take a science class this year and instead take algebra ii next semester and take chemistry and biology next year
trigs a class?
i thought its just pre calc
what are all your classes next semester?
yea
we dont have that at my school
first period english 10
second period ap world and public speaking (switches off)
third period choir and creative writing honors (switches off too)
fourth chemistry i honors
ite required to take calc and pre calc at my school ☹️
no math?
taking geometry this semester
oh
tbh its just me but id just not do trig cuz its in pre calc i think
at least some of it
i would but unfortunately its required for me
the upside if i switch chem to algebra ii is i get to take ap calc senior year the downside is i miss a year of science and have to take chem as a junior in a class full of freshman
hmm idk ill ask my counselor
i suppose it depends what your academic strengths are and if you want to take ap's or not.
Need someone to rate my rough draft on my courses for the rest of my highschool career, thanks
ok
lets see it
Ye
Someone tell me if my course subjects are good for medicine.
1.) Chemistry
2.) Physics
3.) Biology
4.) Integrated Science
5.) Method Math
6.) English
7.) Psychology
Throw in a World language it’s really helps alot
lots of science in one year
but i mean, yeah
What do you mean?
Gotta do it for two years too. There is stage 1 and 2 for these.
ah
You need a language class
Like a lot
Like in med school they offer language courses on the assumption you have done them before
so i have to take foreign language class? I'm working on it rn. but not at school. im learning foreign languages through discord because we can only do 6-8 subjects.
oh—
Well that doesn’t exactly count as a school credit
And most schools require you to have a certain amount of foreign laungage credits to fraud are
*to graduate
Hi, I’m Going To Be Going In My GSCE Next Year and the Interest I Have For My Future it’s Digital Art/Graphic Designing Or Being A Business Woman (I’m still deciding) and I Don’t Really Know Which Subjects to Choose, Would Anyone Mind Helping? And I Need To Choose At least 8
The Subjects I’m Thinking Of Taking:
- Business
- Economics
- Computer Science
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
Those don’t ever work tbh I made one and broke it after 1 year lmao
physc isn’t that good for med but if you have the time and nothing else to do then sure
Ohhh I see. I was told I need physics for med.
Do I need to take maths for computer science?
What maths?
math will prolly be better for the long run, not so sure about psychology
Differently Take Spanish 1,2,3 and maybe AP Spanish
I dont enough courses left to do another subject. And my school doesn't offer Spanish lessons. What I do is learn Spanish from a friend and from discord.
Im not sure why u chose Bio and chem as the subjects you're thinking to take. But have you tried doing art or design? U said u want to do art or graphic designing or be a business woman.
My Older Brother Said It was Best To Take All 3 Sciences and Art & design in my school is a bit complicated and I don’t really do traditional Art
Ohh I see. I thought every high school already has fashion classes cuz in my school we have one for fashion, fabrication and all sorts of that stuff. It's still wrong for me to assume though so I apologize. Maybe your older brother is right. ❤️
It’s Alright, I Would Honestly Go For Fashion Classes if they were in my school, the art GSCE subject there is mostly about portfolio and drawing complex stuff
Hi, I'm currently in grade 9, studying in Canada I'm a freshman and I want become a software engineer
What should I study in high school to become a successful one?
obviously if you're looking into software engineering you want to study computer science and coding classes as well as some math because computery stuff, at the very least up to the equivalent of pre-calc and if you're ahead/passionate about math some point ahead. the only classes i can say will help for sure in becoming a software engineer would probably be those comp sci classes, but if you want to become one i highly suggest doing your own freetime work in that field because coding is so accessible with the state of computers and the internet today.
Take advanced math classes, do the ap comp sci courses, but rly just focus on getting into a college
Thats where youll learn the most
I hope your school can add more classes with each specialization so it can help all students prepare for uni ❤️
Anyways, good luck! You'll ace for sure !!!
You need to do higher maths and lots of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) classes for it. Here are the subjects to consider. I would also add that it is preferable to take coding classes too like what the others told you. These are subjects for high school.
why would a software engineer need chemistry
What Is More Better Subject For A Graphic Designer? Computer Science Or ICT?
Chemistry goes well with physics. And if you are really thinking about it, a software engineer wouldn't need physics because nothing is moving either. I guess it's just that it prepares you the best.
maybe idk
Hey guys i was wondering if it is better to take AP physics 1-2 or Physics 1-2 Honors
I want to get into MIT
ap physics
Why does everyone want to get into mit istg
Its a 4% acceptance rate
And like ONLY good for one
*one thing
It is the 2nd best college
and that one good thing is what most people want to be
That doesn’t mean that it’s the right fit for these people
i’m just gonna paste my 4 year plan here for people looking for inspiration. (I occasionally do it to help)
Some of those classes are college classes at either my local uni or community college, if you want to know more about how, feel free to ping me or dm me
what are courses i should take if im trying to become a doctor? im in 9th grade right now
AP Bio, Anatomy
Calculus AB
AP Chem
stats
Or take another world language like German
Thanks
both (just in case) my opinion though ❤️
I'm doing Mandarin and German ❤️
No it's not lmao it's good for stem, economics and business. And a TON of other stuff but in those two areas it is the best
Nono you can't just brush past that lmfao
Wdym stem is certainly not great?
Today's world is growiing
Why?
Because of technology
And the T in Stem is technology
technology uses math, science, and engineering
So its best not to have all your eggs in one basket, no?
and what are humanities teaching you to do?
How will drawing help a growing society?
people who want to go to mit are interested in stem
Yeah obviously but that’s my issue with it; its so hyper focused and they’re only good at stem
But you really need a college to be good at all things
For it to be a balanced experience
is to focus on one particular path
High school
is what you are thinking of
explore different paths
I'm not discouraging anybody from taking humanities
but
there is eventually going to be a choice between humanities
and stem
Yes obviously but having a society just based on stem is going to fail
Immensely
Studying the culture and social structure is essential to you know, have stem
I see where this is going, but here's the thing, @austere tulip . STEM & Humanities are two completely different things. People choose their majors for their own personal reasons, some of those reasons include a high paid job (not necessarily just to earn a lot, but maybe also because they need the money to support their family well), experience, opportunities that career gives, skills you learn from it, etc.
Both of them are important, we can't have everyone choose STEM over Humanities because that's just wrong. Humanities expand our knowledge of human cultures and help us understand what binds us together and what differentiates us from one another. It helps us improve our creative thinking, communication, problem solving, relationship building, and more skills which many STEM fields require you to be proficient at (STEM doesn't help you improve these skills very well compared to Humanities).
It's important people choose their major because it's their passionate, and not because of money or other things (unless absolutely necessary because they can't live without it).
You have to remember that you're going to work in that field for many years, and that will remain the case even if you retire early. Do the thing that makes you feel that spark you were born and know were meant to do, what makes you alive, giving you that lively spirit. Trust me, you really don't wanna major in the wrong field(s), live your life to the fullest!
And please, don't ever say STEM > Humanities. That's so wrong and it DOES NOT work that way.
It's like saying bananas are better than apples
You can't compare them, they are two different things which give a different result.
Stereotypes are almost never right, and you should always research the topic before saying X is better than Y.
Sorry for typing this much, but I had to in order to properly explain why what you said is problematic
lol
Also, for my freshman year i can either take theatre spanish and double up on math by taking algebra. Or i can take spanish theatre and ap physics 1. in both instances i will be taking chem and ap human geo
No
I never said it was greater than humanities
I said
that you have to eventually make a choice betwee stem and humanities
and you cannot continue with bothh
and the uni in question here was mit
so I said that many people want to go to mit because they prefer stem over humanities
and don't get me wrong
I am a stem person
but I am INTERESTED in history
But the thing is, humanities does not have to form a career
even people doing stem can take some time to learn humanities
which colleges like mit offer
as electives
Should I take honors chemistry and ap physics 1 next year or ap physics 1 and an ap history class (Euro or human geo) or honors chem and an ap history class? I want to go into stem field but i also want to be balanced with my schedule. Is it worth it to take ap histories for a stem major?
Yes it is actually VERY worth it, because many colleges won't give you ap credit for your major, but will for side courses
and many colleges also require elective credit
By using these AP courses for elective credit, you can focus more on your major later
I would recommened going with Ap Physics 1 and an Ap history
Alright thanks!
So MIT isn't great because it lacks humanities? I just disagree man. No school is amazing at everything. MIT is good at multiple things, like Economics, Business, and STEM. it's great if you're going for that. If you're not, that doesn't make it a bad school it just makes it a bad choice. If you judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree..
"balance" shouldn't be the goal of colleges
That's the goal of high school
Also is AP physics better or Physics Honors
My superintendent said physics honors but idk
Hi, is there anyone here from Western Australia and is currently in high school (between 10th - 12th grade)? I have a question about subject recommendations and it's really urgent! Please add/dm/ping me if you are!!! Really important!!!! ❤️
im a freshman going for some type of engineering major, next year im doing ap calc bc, should i take ap physics 1 or do physics c: mechanics?
that is one of the most incorrect statements about college i think i’ve ever seen in my entire life
Why is it though? Obviously if you’re 100% geared towards one thing for your entire life that’s fine but most people aren’t
The majority of people discover what they want to do in college, and that’s hard to do if only one thing in a college is adequate
If a program is excellent it could get more people to do it instead of if the program was boring
if someone is going to mit they are not majoring in fine arts
that’s all i’m going to say
No but like that’s my personal issue with mit
Its just that its extremely loaded on one side
But I feel like they need to put more funding to create a more rounded school
It's literally called an institute of technology
if you don't want to do technology
then there's still other prestigious unis
You can't say this as a fact. I met some people who didn't go to college but they're good at some stuff.
You're kind of saying that people should be good at everything when clearly we don't have to. No one is perfect to be good at everything.
College is not everything. Even schools are not everything. Sometimes colleges or schools are not meant for people. But that doesn't mean they lost their education.
Education is everywhere. And you can be good at a lot of things without schools.
The context of the sentence is that I’m saying colleges themselves should be good and well rounded, not that you have to go to college to be good
I fully understand that college isn’t needed to be a good person and have a high paying job
Also, this entire discussion was based off of a personal opinion
Why would you say colleges have to be well rounded? There are colleges that only want to focus on one area. Like MIT only focuses on STEM. It's kind of like a special uni at a particular area which is STEM.
Again, personal opinion
I know. That's why I'm curious. I'm not arguing.
Yeah that's your opinion but really there are universities that focus on one area because that's their speciality courses they can provide. And in my opinion, just cuz they only offer one area for their students, doesn't mean they aren't well rounded. It's their specialty.
I just think that statistically, the amount of people at mit means that there’s at least a couple people who got pushed there due to family pressure
And that they don’t want to do math but that’s the only thing the school has
And I know this is true because ive talked to a lot of student w
There's also science, economics, etc...
That’s all stem related
And also...families don't push their children to MIT
What if someone really wants to go into history?
Oh they 100% do
a prestigious school
The family pressure to go to a school like that is immense
They might push their students to go to Stem
but they can't MIT
because
its selection is like 5%
My parents know people who went to like Cornell and hated it because it was their families wish and not theirs
And they select the most interested bunch
Have you ever heard about Harvard or bust parents?
so like the probability that someone who doesn't want to go to mit gets into mit is very little
Mmm I think theres enough people
You forget theres the back and side door into college where you can donate a lot of money
Like
A lot
not in mit
Also legacy
Mit says they don’t take it, but my friend’s dad is friends with a lot of admissions officers and they do take it into consideration
