#course-selection

yes I can
its in a lot of channels
Hey, I’m a freshman and for my sophomore year I’m thinking of taking two APs: AP chem and AP euro. I’ve heard both are GPA killers but do you think I should be fine? (The other courses I’m planning are honors)
don’t take ap chem (personal experience) and take 3 aps
Hey I’m a sophomore right now, and I think you’re lucky to have both those AP options, so the opportunity is great and you should take it. AP chem is for juniors at my school, so I have no idea how that is, but I’m in AP Euro right now and it’s actually pretty fun. I’ve only been in school for a month so I can’t say too much about it, but I honestly think do both if you want that gpa to go up. However if you think the honors might be hard, I suggest just doing AP Euro.
I don’t know much about ap euro but I’m taking ap chem, calc ab and bc, and gov this year. I have all A’s but I wouldn’t recommend taking ap chem
also remember that you have plenty of time to decide
what aps would you recommend taking as a sophomore?
what ap’s do they offer for you? take aps in fields that you are interested in
Is this courseload in your sophomore year
yes
but we have a semester based schedule, so I have 2 ap’s this semester and 2 in the next
then I wouldn’t recommend taking more than 3, but it’s up to you
I my school only the AP comp scis, Chem, and Euro/world are the available aps
So I will anyways take two
Thanks for the review about chem tho
So after calcbc will you take calc III or stats
stats
That’s cool
And I have another question, what do you think is better, AP lang/lit or Ap seminar/research
do not take three APs freshman year
but I've heard good things about euro
he’s asking for sophomore year
OHHH
I’m taking 4 but 3 is a solid amount too
my school doesn’t allow freshmen to take aps
but my friend in a different school took ap wh in freshmen year, only 1 ap and he said it was really hard
honors chem is free
physics is a bit harder
but still easy
id say you take both at the same time
i did chem over the summer
in 1 month
and got an 89 final average
ap phys is difficult
but still possible
yeah
honors phys and honors chem at the same time is doable
lots of people ik do honors chem and honors bio at the same time
yeah
Would taking chemistry with physics in high school help if I want to go for mechanical engineering in college
Or should I just take physics and no chemistry
Don’t pick business
So let’s I want to be doctor and would take healthcare in HS (middle school student and our freakin district requries a dum 4 year plan) and if that plan doesn’t work for some reason then I would be wanting to be a pilot so is that remotely possible
So, I would really narrow your choices down. Doctors and pilots are on two opposite ends of the spectrum school wise. This means whatever courses you take for one of these career paths won’t likely have similar classes for the other. Decide what you really want to do and what you see yourself doing for the rest of life. Also, be realistic. These are difficult career paths so you really have to ask yourself if you are willing to dedicate your life to your job. I know this sounds extreme but you have to be dedicated to be successful in either of those careers.
But that is a difficult choice to make, especially since your school requires a 4 year course.
This is why I recommend taking a mix of both courses. For example, to be a pilot maybe you just need physics, and for doctor you need bio, so take two years of each or something. You don’t have to be too specific in high school and should explore. Like auto is a really good elective for pilots, so take that as an elective.
Good idea as well
I’m a freshman in hs and was wondering if I should take my Spanish 3 and 4 online or in person. I def want to get the 4 years but an unsure if I should stay in person or go online? Please share any advice or experience doing either! Also I’ve alr taken 1 and 2 in middle school
If you want 4 years, go for Spanish 3 in person, Spanish 4 in person, Spanish Lang in Person, and then Spanish Lit in person
always do in person when possible, because online is not as good as in person can be. During in person, it is much easier to communicate and you will learn more.
languages are usually easier to learn in person because you get to converse directly to a teacher/peers! it'll also be easier to learn the language as well
Thank you guys so much!
of course, anytime!!
Thank you this was really helpful but when I said I wanted to do 4 years i meant just take 2 more to get 4 in total lol
if you're taking two more then i would recommend keeping it in person if you can/your schedule permits

I mean I'm completely bias so I say do it online cuz all my school is online
Lol
What are the courses that I should take if I want to go ti med
biology, chemistry, spanish or some sort of language (VERY helpful) and yeah thats all i know
whats in your course offering guide? (classes that are offered at your school?)
Should I take Spanish all 4 years of hs
tbh spanish is fun if u have the right teacher. plus it will be useful to know. I would recommend it
Yea I heard it's ideal to take 4 world language classes
But I'm still deciding since I'm tryna go into a stem career where it's not as useful
hmm probably not then tbh
Yea
it has a butt ton of medical applications
I want to major in computer science. What classes should I take next year?
computer science classes obviously, and other general math classes will also be pretty useful to you
Is 12APs 2 IB HLs enough to get into an ivy?
Yup that it good to get into an ivy, but make sure that your courses are relavent to what field you like.
holy
😭
Im only taking 8 aps total
Me with my 5-6 APs that I’ll eventually have until I graduate: 🥲
How much for last year?
You took AP freshman year?
How challenging is it? If it was challenging at all.
uhh
It was "easy" but I suck at did bad on all tests
and for the ap exam i got a 3
i suck at compsci
😐
I wanna learn AP Comp. Sci Principles that’s why.
Seems average. It’s better than 2.
It was YOURE first time taking an AP class at all. That’s why.
If you’re gonna take another science/math AP next year, what’ll you do to pass it? And not make the same mistakes before?
im taking AP pysch and APUSH junior year
butt uh definitely more studying and organized times 💀
I’m taking AP Psych this year. I’ll let yk how it goes. Does your school let you take a third AP in junior year? Like AP Language?
psych is like just a shit ton of notes according to everyone ik who’s taken it
You learn a lot abt ppl tho. And why they’re just the way that they are.
Not so many notes for me Bc my teacher says it’s all online in google slides. But I choose to take notes anyways.
If u take AP lang for sophomore year (tested in)
u take either English 3 honors
or English IB SL
or another one
u can take AP Lit Senior year
will u even remember me lol
Lucky your school has IB.
I’ll try lol
I’m a junior taking AP Lit. I’m the imposter.
😳
They allowed it anyways. Idc.
is ap lit hard
lmao
shh
So far, no Bc all we’re doing is focusing on writing college essays Bc we’re all seniors (tehe). But Ik it’ll get harder. I have to take a look at the tests and let yk tho.
I’m gonna be extra prepare y’all 😎
yk what’s crazy is the norm for soph yr at my school is 1 maybe 2 aps but my friend is taking 4 and it’s like calc bc, csa, chinese, and world like idk how she’s doing it she’s also in our dance team which is an insane amount of work and our dance team is like really really good and i just wanna be her when i grow up
You’re still in middle school?
someone takes 4 aps as a sophomore its very norm
in my school taking honors/aps in the tech program
is very normal
my school it’s like max 2
Oh. Focus on finding an EC you’re passionate abt. Making a club, website, podcast, or webinar is impressive. Esp. If you’re that young.
💀
definitely
I have multiple clubs (like 3)
like we can’t take more than 2 soph year usually
bc of credit requirements
i need to drop out of some soon
I took one last year. 2 this year. Hopefully 3-4 next year.
join ones that u can take leadership positions
and use to benefit ur college resume
i just dk which ones i’ll do yet
@safe haven waitt what state ru in???
My old school didn’t let students take AP until they’re in junior or senior year. That’s so dumb 😭
Virginia huh? I’m in NY.
we can only take ap csp freshman year and then ap world + 1 other ap sophmore year
junior year + senior year is when all the other aps are
unless you take classes over the summer
nice
lots of our students take classes over the summer
one of my friends is taking ap calc rn
as a sophomore
💀
like ffs calm down 😭
our school also has a weird ass way of teaching alg 2 and precalc
Omg if I wanna get an Advanced Diploma in my state I need to have 6 gym credits. My old school didn’t give me enough credits Bc my gym teacher died…(he was really good at his job and loved it so I missed him). And now I’m low on credits and need to take the gym classes Saturday 😭
like they don’t teach it to us they give us practice sheets and make us learn from those
oh damn
yeah my school has yearly classes
ah
so like 6 credits isn’t possible
That’s not teaching. You can literally do that at home without an AP class lol.
ikr
lol
is getting 7 hs credit from middle school good?
It is. Not for me no Bc since my gym teacher died, HE couldn’t give me the credits. Cuz yk.
rough
i didnt even know u could do that
💀
same
yes
7⁉️
we had like math credits and language credits in ms
idk the school just put me in honors classes
i had none of that
Lucky lucky lucky I tell ya.
and took hs credit electives
😬
Yes Pineapple 😍. Which electives tho?
compare yourself to other people around you 😍 only then will you truly know how well you’re doing
i’m just kidding dont
but like I’m kinda worried like I’ll get like way too hard classes when I start freshman year 😩
Like what classes?
don’t know
do you have like a course selection thingy
😭
not yet
You’re school didn’t start yet? Or are you in 8th grade?
8th
yeah it’ll probably come out in like the middle of the year
my sisters in 8th 😮😮❤️
ikr
ong
Freshman are babies.
yes
like i was a freshmen 4 months ago
little babies
and i wasn’t that bad
They’re pandemmy kids.
damn all the 7th graders be bullying the 6th even though they were 6th like a few months ago
💀
that’s how the world works
i didn’t have ms
who wants to help me judge my 4 year courses
i had like 6.5 months of ms
or in this case 2 year
Ik. Just remember that middle school ain’t real life. It’s just a weird jungle or smth.
sureee
well ima go nice having a conversation with u guys
i should probably sleep but meh
Cya
bye
Middle school has petty drama. HS has somewhat petty drama, but sometimes it’s real College is…idk I’m not in college yet.
Pre calc in 10th grade⁉️Wish I had that.
Let her sleep
@cinder gorge ok u help judge!?!
With?
my junior and senior course plans
What do you do in 9th? Like what do you learn
depends on ur classes??.
What are some classes
Ah. How many credits needed to graduate? How many do you have for each class? What are the CORE regular classes you need to get the credit stuff over with? What AP classes can you fit in?
I'm in 8th currently and am going to 9th next year
oh let me just send u a pic
U.S.
ok what state
IL
Ok sooooooooooooooooooooooo
Illinois
You’re just gonna send personal info huh 😭
English 1 Reg or Honors
dw its not personal
World history Honors/AP or AP Human geographty
Algebra 1, Geometry, or Alg 2
Depending on grade levels ^
PE
Ok. Are there any credits that you can transfer from middle school to HS?
Science: bio honors or reg
Idk
I do spanish
@teal valve ok thats all
Ok
that was messy
So anything I should prepare for?
@cinder gorge
We received a google doc for 4 years course plans during freshman year
Ok. What are your credits so far? How many are there for each class?
10 credits each class.
I ain't trying to die doing drugs so I don't have to worry💀
I still gotta finish one piece
F drugs.
Fr
How does the GPA thing work? (I'm really stupid and don't know anything)
@teal valve for unweighted
let me send
this is basically it? https://blog.prepscholar.com/weighted-vs-unweighted-gpa-whats-the-difference#:~:text=Unweighted GPA Letter Grade , 3.3 8 more rows
You need 2 more years of language, 1 more year of USH, 1 yea of GOV & Econ (senior year prob), math you’re doing this year. You need physical science, both Algebra 1 A and B, health, and art. And Physical Ed. Is that right?
2 years language minimum, 3 req
history and gov and econ is fine (since its required)
Alg 1 I have already
health i already did before freshman year (summer)
PE i did NJROTC freshman year and PE this year ( i dropped ROTC this year)
I need chem next year
You need one more gym credit for 20 credits. And for electives too. Ik you’re taking those classes. What science are you taking this year?
I see. It’s ok. Pass reg bio. Do chem next year. Senior year choose physics Bc it’s useful. Yes it’s hard but all you need is repetition, help, and discipline.
If you’re trying to do honors or AP or IB anything, studying the subject before taking the class so you’ll get a head start.
i generally like just suck at science
maybe its because of my procrastinating
or failure to study
or i ahte it
hate*
Bc you need physics as a prerequisite?
I see. What are you passionate about? Or interested in?
physics is optional
soo
anything related to buisness/finance/management/and just non engineer/medical
also psychology
So AP Physics is impossible Bc youre struggling with science?
its either reg physics or ap physics for ur choices
I see.
yep yep
Ik school gives subjects that make you say “when they heck am I gonna use the Pythagorean Theorem in my life?” But they teach you these subjects just so you’d have a general knowledge of all the topics that’ll maybe come up in your real life. I said general, not specific. Since we’re just kids figuring out what we’re trying to be in life, school just gives us a bunch of subjects to teach. So that we’d have basic knowledge about most things. We use that basic knowledge to apply it to our careers, passions, and interests. That’s my interpretation of it.
wow
you need to be an inspirational speaker
make that club ong
Thanks dude. So, if you’re struggling with science just know that struggling is part of the process. Science can be applicable. Just remember that the next time you wanna give up when you’re in bio or honors chem. I’ve made the mistake of not having that mindset when I was in chem. Or any other subject.
ahhjh gotcha
Cool. Is it 9:40 for you?
yes
K cuz it’s the next day for me. Bye
has anyone here taken Drama before? I know tech education is probably gonna be more useful for me but I am taking it this term.
is drama recommended for people who are interested?
Are planning on acting more, or are you more focused on tech stuff?
tech, but I’m taking tech this term. next term I’ll be changing courses, but I don’t know if taking drama will be worth the experience because I want to try to get into performing arts
I’m not realllt sure if it’s worth it
tbf i took tech this term just so I can get some basic levels of how to use excel and do more advanced things like photoshop but not mainly for a future job that uses a lot of computers I just want the basic foundation before I start doing advanced classes
Oh, I thought you were meaning like a technical drama class vs an acting drama class lol.
no like computers and software kind of tech
and drama as in performing on stage
or film
im in 9th
Imo, I try to take at least one easy class each year so I don't feel super overly stressed. If you're already taking a ton of honors and AP classes already, and you aren't really all that enthusiastic about technology, I think it would probably be a pretty good idea to take drama.
okay thanks sm
Np
Idk why but for like abt 3 weeks I literally have a free period in Techbolgy.. 💀 I might be doing something wrong but no one in my class I see is working too
i have a quick question for the more experienced. i live in romania and go to a french high school (the actual system). i’m in 11th grade and it’s just starting to get hard, like really hard… the way our system works is that starting for 11th grade, you have to pick 3 classes to pass your final exam on. I chose Maths, Economic and social science and english literature.(i’m good in maths, good in econ, but i chose english just to get good grades). But now i’m starting to think about my future. European universities look at the classes you chose. And I want to go to a commerce uni. My top 1 pick was HEC Lausanne ( Switzerland ), but I just found out that if you come from a french system and want to enroll to their school. You need Maths and Physics. The problem is that I suck at physics. All my school years I was the worst in my class and couldn’t understand a single thing (even if i tried), it’s just something that I don’t like. So my question is: What do you think I should do? Keep English and go to another uni (I have a good one in ming in Nice,France) or should I pick Physics? Thanks
Please mention me if you mind replying
I would recommend physics if that college is really good for you, but before you start the class maybe take some kind of summer preview tutoring to help you prepare.
How is the course load for ap psych? Also since its a one semester class, is there any work that extends into the summer?
im in 8th doing honors geom, honors ela, anyone got course recommendations for 9th?
is this a good amount of AP classes for having completed at the end of hs?
AP US History
AP English Lang
AP Chemistry
AP Calculus BC
AP Physics C: Mech
AP Physics C: Electricity
AP Biology
AP English Lit
AP Statistics
AP Spanish
yes
Jesus so much college science classes😭
I'm doing DE my last year and only doing Calc 1 and Astronomy bruh😭
grand slamming the science classes at my hs just cause i can
Honors Earth Science
Honors Bio
Honors Chem
Honors Physics
AP Bio
AP Chem
AP Physics
all in 5 years
Taking honors bio rn, honors chem next year, (I'm in a program called AICE, not doing AP besides 2 classes) AICE Environmental science, Astronomy DE
omg honors bio was more like an english or history class than science
what I wanna do is social studies, so that's why I wanna do it
I have to take chemistry honors at my school yet I don't wanna
i love(d) chem
I was originally gonna take honors physics but alot of people say the teacher sucks
I only get a choice of either honors physics or honors chem in 10th, I would wanna take AICE Psychology
i would pick chem
but at the same time
its good to go into college with a decent understanding of phsyics
can you not take both next year
should I be worried that my school offers only two AP classes?
W
that’s good but i’m curious why you took bc without ab
You don't usually do both, ab is semesters 1 and 2, bc is 2 and 3, honors precalculus covered calc 1 content at my school
My projected APs:
Calc AB
Calc BC
Chem
Government
Stats
Comp Sci Principles
Comp Sci A
AP Physics
Some 3-4 aps for senior year
3 semesters? hmm my school has ab 1st semester and bc 2nd semester
Like ab coveres semester 1 and 2 of college calc, bc does 2 and 3
We did the 1st included in Precalc
I found a good business school with an international program. and i think i'll focus on thta one and go later on at lausanne for my masters
bc covers the third semester of college calculus as well as the first and second
I need advice. I just started the school year and I'm taking US History Honors. However, the content isn't that hard it's just that amount of work the teacher assigns is a lot. I don't if I'll be able to manage that amount of work with all my other honors classes. So do you think I should stay in honors or drop down to normal history. I don't know if it's better to go through the honors class and get a bad grade or go to normal and get a really good grade
I think you should stay in honors. Colleges would rather see a B in a hard class than the easy A
yeah true, but at the same time, with the amount of work I barely get time to do my extra curriculars.
I mean it’s up to you but like maybe you could try a different strategy to get your homework done faster. Do you have a 40 min lunch? If so, take half of it to do some of your other homework. Etc. I’m just recommending you at the end it’s up to you.
stay in honors, its worth it. The regular classes give the same amount of work, but its covering topics slower and its way worse.
Whats the difference between Pre AP and Honors? My friend that goes to another school has Pre AP but I have Honors. Is there a difference? (@ me pls/ping)
always take honors
Pre AP goes through collegeboard, Honors goes through state/school curricula
My school has Honors English as a harder and weighted class than pre ap]
so Pre AP is better?
oh nvm
It depends
some schools might consider it better, some worse.
My school only weights Honors English classes above English 9 so Honor English 10, the honors CTE path ways for that, Composition Through Careers (Honors English 11) and Honors Expository English (Honors English 12). That's it lol.
ahh
No other Honors Classes are weighted, including Pre-AP.
Pre-AP English 2 is considered far easier than Honors English 10
I counted, we only have 5 UC weighted classes, all being English courses.
does the 5 points you get for pre ap courses count towards your weighted or unweighted gpa?
weighted
so what would be a good avg for pre ap courses
like rn j have a 96 in pre so biology
Should I take ap microeconomics and ap Macroeconomics separately or within the same year. I have the time to take both within this year, but I don't plan on taking macro next year. I planned on taking it as a Junior. Should I just do them together that way I won't have a one year gap between the two?
You can absolutely take them separately because the Ap tests are different. Many people group them together cuz economics, but each semester is a totally different class.
just strive for an A
Alright, thank you!
My brother is having his IELTS exam next week, is there anything to consider mainly or what he should mainly focus on?
I'm going down the computer science path in University, which subjects should I take in IGCSE
Usually mathematics, physics & chemistry stuff like that.
Can you elaborate further
Try to take the hardest math, physics, and chemistry classes ur offered if you can handle it
Biology ain't needed right?
Not for compsci
Chemistry isn't as needed as physics and math either
Aight but for safety I'll take chemistry
You should take subjects like physics, chemistry and math. And, you are usually applying for whole school not for particular major don't stress that out so, any rest subjects are not required to apply CS.
Alright thanks, also there is a rumour that if I get a "C" grade more than 3 times in year 9 I cannot advance to IGCSE. Is that true? ( I don't true but just asking since you know more than me )
Nope! Don't heed the rumours just be always encouraged and motivated towards this process!
Make sure you will maintain your academics as good but academics is among the top factor in your college US application.
Don't mean to bug you but I fail a secondary course like Physical Education am I disqualified for Igcse?
Because I'm planning on dropping PE of it doesn't
In which grade?
Year 9
If you are planning to drop PE then there is no hurt and they should be fine with this.
I have like 10 subjects rn with 2 more going to appear during second semester so I should be good? I have decent grades in every other subject. So ig I'm good
Yeah, you are perfect, don't stress that out!
Thanks this means a lot, I'll take your advice on what subjects to pick in Igcse
Yeah , sure!
Hey again, I have another question.
So, I'm currently a Freshman in high school taking pre calculus this year. I applied to my local community college last week to start dual enrollment in my spring semester. If I'm accepted, I'm not sure if I'll actually enroll for this year, but I probably will.
My question is whether or not it makes sense to take College Calculus 1 in spring if I plan to take AP Calculus AB next year. This won't be the only class I'll consider taking for this year, however it's an option. I'm not sure if it makes sense to do it because a few people have said that they cover the same content, one just doesn't have an exam at the end.
Should I spend my time doing that or should I just take regular calculus over the summer? I have time to do it, but I'm not sure if it's actually worth it.
I would assume you don't have to take any calculus to take AP Calc AB
Alright, so should I just be familiar with geometry, trig, and algebra before taking ap calc? Is that all of the preparation that'll be necessary instead of taking a full on calculus class over the summer/ spring?
Yeah, just become proficient with all of that
Trig and algebra are really important
Alright, thanks for your help! 🙂
do yall know if ib global politics is hard or not,?
depends on the course, it can be.
hello hi people i need opinions on my 11th-12th grade course plans
i like that ur doing chinese classes all four years
chinese is dope
im also some what of a native speaker
i did chinese school for like 9 years
oh that’s super cool
i’m learning it rn
not through school tho it’s through some other program lol
um, just my opinion but I would try to take an AP English course if offered instead of English 3
and that 7th class fr
IB Sl
but u have had to take AP Lang
maybe you can double up? if ur school allows that
double english?..
yeah
I'm taking double science courses rn lol
idk, they offer it at my school. sry
@lone lion wait do you go to troy?
Yes
Ur in 10th grade
Yes?
do you self study math at all? you seem like a great student
Yep, I do
i’m taking triple math ahh
Same, taking cihs (college In high school) bio and Chem
which classes
precalc h, ap stat, and ap csp
csp is useless and easy
should i take AP classes? even though i dont want a job having to do with that class? ex: AP English
I would say if you’re passionate about wanting to take AP classes, but if you’re not then I wouldn’t because it would just be extra work and you might slack off since you don’t really want to do it. try to focus on what you really want to do and passionate about so you can try to turn that passion into a career
ohhh tru tru thabk yiy
Sadly I can’t take AP calc BC : (
My school basically requires AB before BC because the teacher teaches all of the AB content in just 1 quarter
Does anyone know what they go over in ib contemporary history?
Hello, these are the courses I’m planning to take. What should I change/anything I should add.
I’m currently in grade 10
Any electives that you enjoy
To explore interests
Idk about academic rigor, I feel someone else would be able to answer that better
I guess just take the highest or hardest classes you can take that your school offers that are either necessary or interest you
No, it’s 8 unless u take it online or during summer school
lucky
we can only take 7 max
oh dang
tru, but they don’t do that much (?) for uni apps tho so
im a sophmore right now (de is digital electronics and cim is computer aided manufacturing , is there anyways i can make my schedule for future years stick out as more of a comp sci/ engineering student
edd is like an engineering capstone
i could take college classes too, so im open too suggestions :))
ur doing all aps damn
how is that all aps
there's a lot of honors
as well
Junior yr gonna be something 😭
prebby colors
Tyy 🙂
what is seminar @tardy talon
its like a research essay ap
👍
I took inspiration and colorcoded my plan lol
I have 4 possible courses i wanna do
and i wanna narrow down my options
i wanna have a course that'll get me a high paying job
but is also quite easy
heres the courses
Arts and Design
General Academic Strand
Technical vocational livelihood
accountancy business management
im grade 9 right now
Last one should be also fine!
accountancy business management?
ty!
maybe ill ask again here when im grade 10
ty
I would take business management but it’s up to you
I’ve never heard of general academic strand or technical vocational livelihood lol
If you take an elective that you’re interested in and further take more electives that develop on that to show your interest that shows that you are more than just STEM. Like say freshman year you take drawing and then you take painting Sophomore year- then you can take advanced or Ap studio arts as a junior or senior depending on your credit prerequisites
anyone from India here? I need advice on subject choices in 11th grade?
Do you wanna apply for US colleges in future?
yes
Asking For Essay Review:
Those who are applying through this fall and finished essay writing or being in this way i would like to suggest you that before asking to any common person to review essays ask your family members, teachers or well known friend because they knows you well and closely since a long who can better evaluate this stuff for you instead of common person.
Best!
Guys shall I take ap psychology or honors comp science
Guys I am having some trouble selecting my course for bachelors next year since I will be in college. I am a phy, chem, bio, maths student so I can choose any field I want in any of the stream. I am from india, I don't know what I like the most.
So I can't decide what to choose.
Like I don't even know much about the courses which are there after high school. It's really confusing for me even after I Google.
I need some help in selecting the bachelors please.
In USA it’s good to take psychology
But in India I think u should chose bio and study medical
What state do you live in that you have political science as a elective? About to move
Look at the key, it’s a college course.
I take it at my community college
but California
My bad
Oh ok
do yall think this is a good setup(i set it up by myself which is why it is messy) im a sophomore taking 3 aps rn and im taking ap chem and ap physics over khan academy so in my junior year those will hopefully be easy
Image
idk if its too much tho
AP HG? Why?
it'll probably be better to continue language sophomore year instead of dropping it and adding it back to your schedule
i just took it bc
like
i wanted more than 2 aps
for sophomore year
i know its because my counselors messed up my schedule
believe it or not
i was missing two classes
all the electives were full only thing left was drama(LOL) and by chance someone moved away so there was room in studio art so i moved over to that but there is no room in spanish at al
smt along that story
in california we have 7 periods btw
its a relatively simple class but the teacher is failing the class right now. we had a test last week and 95% of the class got less than a 65%(I got 65%) and the highest score was an 80
Im in California and we have 6 periods
Im in the bay area
ah
Im in the valley
there is smt called senior exemption
7th period is optional for seniors
7th period is also everyday
its pretty confusing and seems unnecessary up front but its actually pretty nice
Yeah
My district is the only district in the state to require a full 4 years of PE without a sports exemption
so you have to take 2 pe classes if you do a sport
why i quit soccer lmao
😭 oh nooooo
THATS SO UNFAIR WTH??
2 years is the minimum for us over here
2 years is required by state
4 years is required by my district
I take 1 semester of Pe Band a year for four years so that’s my last two… but we meet 14 hours a week in that class and it’s an actual pe class + marching band lol
ours is only 2 years PE
I had actually thought about that but struggle of those things are real and I backed off. 💀
any tips? 😅
I am applying to Europe for business administration/management, but I didn't take A-Level Mathematics, any universities offering that? Or is there a way I can give a separate exam (e.g., IELTS for English) to prove proficiency and then study those courses?
So, if you're planning to self-study math for whatever reason, first you should try to find a book related to that subject. For example if you're trying to study Calculus, get a Calculus book. This can be a review book or a textbook but look at all of your options. Make sure the book covers what you need (which you can find in the description of the book).
Next, you shouldn't use that book as your only resource. You should find online resources like YouTube videos (doing this often makes it easier for me to understand the topic). For this I mainly watch YouTube videos by "The Organic Chemistry Tutor".
Lastly, (this is somewhat related to the last tip) if you aren't understanding something, you need to look at the solutions and try to see why it works the way it does.
Other tip: Practice. If you're watching a video, write down the equation and try to do it yourself before they show the solution (unless you don't understand it, study the solution). Same thing if you're using a book. I'd say practicing would be the most important thing that way you don't simply know the concepts or formulas, but you also know how to apply them. Try to practice a wide range of equations within the topic. That way if you're given a test, your brain won't completely melt because you've never seen a question like that.
Hope this helps!
For us two years is required even if you play a sport
It’s so annoying
better than 4 ;-;
is dual enrollment worth it?
Very
If you go to an instate public, it is better than AP in most circumstances
which one looks better on college applications?
APs probably look better. Though As in concurrent enrollment classes look good as well. Dual credit classes typically look worse then both, however, still look better than honors.
Concurrent enrollment classes means where you can take free university/college lavel courses during your junior or senior year of high school through the partnership of your particular school with local universities/ colleges.
It is not really required or not necessary but if you are free or you can manage this during your high school then you can.
There are applicants who have deffrent things but always keep in mind admission officers are looking holistically in every part of your application wether it is your academics, test scores, extra curriculars, essays ( personal essay + supplement essays) and the strong recommendations. I would like to suggest you to take AP's , honours and stuff like that to make your application more stronger otherwise, taking AP's , honours or stuff like that are not required for applying to college but it is better if you can.
Ours is 1 year
thank you!! any books you recommend?
Are you planning on studying precalculus?
yes
Okay, so I'd say if you want something thatll be really helpful, then "Precalculus Mathematics for Calculus James Stewart". However, if you're on a budget then I'd say "Precalculus A Self-Teaching Guide Steve Slavin", "Precalculus: The Easy Way (Barron's Easy Way) Third Edition", or you can also go to the website called "Openstax" which I think is entirely free..? I'm not too sure about how reliable or helpful openstax is as I haven't really used it, but maybe it could be helpful.
ok ty!!
Welcome!
hi i have a question about course selection
so for the IGCSE course program what classes can you choose between? e.g. chemistry and history, comp sci and art, etc
é
@river elbow you there?
Alr so idk if this is good choice but for my math high school route I am going to go 8th grade algebra 1, 9th grade alg 2 + geometry, 10th grade pre calculus + discrete math, 11th grade calculus a/b, 12th grade calculus b/c ,any thoughts?
@river elbow I think you can give me your thoughts on this
doing calc ab and then bc may be a bit excessive because the curriculums are almost the same except for 2-3 chapters, instead of doing both calc ab and bc, maybe do calc 2 or calc 3 after calc ab or bc. or even stats after calc ab/bc if you want the full experience
Wait lemme check my course selection
also alg 2 and geo in the same year is a lot of work lol
unless that’s what students at your school do most often
calc 2 and 3 are dual enrollment idk if you have that though
Okie dokie
What is dual enrollment
it’s like taking a college course in Highschool but with an actual college
that’s at the Highschool level though, not sure if you’re there just yet, you’ll figure this stuff out as you go
Oh so the credit is both high school + college
There is multi variable calc is that calc 2
That’s calc 3
Is there any way you can take geometry over the summer prior to or after 9th grade instead of doing both at once?
yeah, that’s really up the chart. It’s calc 3 which is for most people in the really gifted line the last course in highschool
my school had us take both 9th grade lmao. Geometry, Alg2, Precalc/trig, 10th grade is the remainder of those. (Having freshman with 20% of their grade being pre calc was a good and bad idea. Failed a lot of people, but it also shows who is strong enough to go to BC junior year.
Hey, any South African high school student here that takes any one of these subjects?
Physics
Life Sciences
EGD
If so, what do you think about the subjects and how do you find it?
!find partner.
Hi! The find partner feature is currently broken, also please dont do it here we have a channel for that but it is currently closed. Please check pinned messages in #general to know more.
hii so i'm a very confused international highschool student and i wanted some college help, I want to pursue diet and nutrition but i dont think theres a ton of job growth so i feel i should take software engineering as a safer option plus im fine doing that too . Is it possible to do an undergrad in software engineering and a Msc in nutrition&dietics , and will be able to become a RD with that qualification ?
which course should i take, ap chem or ap bio?
I know I am going to take both honors physics and AP Physics C
But I will have one year remaining and I dont want to take APES
Probably chem because it's more closely related to physics, because there's more math in chem than bio
I agree. Just know that ap chem might give you more depression than necessary
I recommend only taking AP Chem if you’ve taken Chem in the past
It’s HARD from what I’ve heard
Im currently taking honors chem
Alright, cool, AP chem is a good choice then as long as you feel you can succeed
Just wondering if AP Bio is a better choice, not necessarily whether I can do it or not
It just depends on what you want to do. Like someone else said, AP Chem is a good mathematically based class that will prepare you for advanced physics.
Yup :-)
I just want to make sure I get some biology experience
Because the only bio I have is a six week course I took to bridge
Is the biology experience a graduation requirement or a personal preference?
I have the bio graduation req down
If you’ve already met it, I’d recommend AP chem
the six week course counts
Nah
Yeah I figured lol
not worth bridging courses
So much better stuff to do in summer
like research programs or internships
I think I'll stick to AP Chem in that case
Yeah 😭 my summer was trash because I did those on top of APs
Yeah, good luck in Chem!
What research programs have you done/considered doing?
Is AP csp difficult?
I've heard its one of the easiest courses out there
Sounds good
A friend of mine who took is said they spend months on print statements
Not even sure if its worth your time if its not necessary
I’ve only done personal research but I’m applying for the pioneer academics program probs junior year
You can also cold email professors too
Interesting
I'm still a freshman so I got time lol
But I just want to get a head start
It’s pretty much necessary in my course plan, otherwise I’d def take a different AP
csp is one of those things I would bridge if its allowed
too late!
LOL
My school and friend group is super academically oriented
Felt that
So I gotta push myself and I don't really mind
I enjoy working on weekends which is sad but oh well.
Also I think AP bio and apush are required for my course plan
Hey me too though! I gotta bounce but it was nice talking to ya :)
Good luck!
APUSH isn’t as hard as people make it out to be just make sure you know general timelines but not particular dates really
Does your school allow you to bridge? Don't worry abt responding now lol
If by bridging you mean taking some classes online, yup! In pre-IB here they don’t let you leave early or anything to take a class online but I’m taking AP Seminar additionally and took a few over the summer
Not rn but im taking AP calc bc over the summer this yr and im starting ap stats in a month or so
Oh dang? So you're in ab rn?
Bad idea
Test is in may, taking it right after is bad idea to prepare for the test.
I meant to say AB LMAO, sorry bout that I’m running on like no sleep, but I’m taking BC next year
True
Are you doing pre calc rn?
Or Hpc ?
Pre calc yeah
I’m abt to go to 9th grade and i’m tryna plan my classes for next year but idk what’s to do. my classes are:
algebra 1/geo a
advanced physical science
spanish 1
advanced ga studies
advanced ela
You should plan based on graduation and college requirement
what's ga studies
you should take things you're interested in and always take the advanced/honors versions
my school does not have ap classes (I'm from Canada if that explains my position), I see a lot of people are taking them so I am wondering if it will make or break my chances of getting into a college
Well I've seen people get into competitive colleges without ap classes or weighted classes
they have other strong pts then
ok so what id u need me to do again
this is already set in stone for u?
whats ur classes rn?
ok 1 thing straight off the bat
to take AP lit, i believe you need ap english before
It requires IB SL
OR
English 3 Honors - like a certain grade
it might be different for yall cuz thats how it works in my school
its just AP calc
ohhh
ye
lol same
stupid test didnt go through
i figured cuz youre taking alot of chinese courses
do u have an idea of what u want to major in college yet?
7th class: if ur into business / philosopy: id do empowering... AP stat...or philosophy
Good Businessman are good manipulators 🥱
^ i think everything is good, except for science section
^
honors bio i failed
so I had to drop
id suggest taking AP bio right after
holy shit 💀 bro
11th grade
i failed honors bio
well i mean i had 0 period and i lived super far
that time
but idk
Umm yea. U should maybe asses that before u take AP Bio
^^
Speaking of AP Bio. I took Bio freshman year, now taking Chem, would it be hard to go back to bio junior year ?
yea prob-
8th: Bio honors (A+) 9th: Chem honors (A-) 10th: AP Environmental Science (A) 11th: AP Bio (A) 12th: Normal Physics
but science is my weak subject
ah
lucky
u can take bio honors 8th
our middle school was aprivate schoo
and behind
and covid
Same 💀
it just comes naturally to me
im more of a materialistic and math based dude
Does ur school offer APUSH
yes i sent my schedule
if youre good in math maybe consider taking chem
here actually
yea did it last yr
ehhhhh not rlly
8??? ive only got 6
We’re only allowed to do one ap sophomore year smh
So I’m taking APUSH, and then Law as my elective
thats a good balance
Are u west coast ?
florida
They are so restrictive in New England. Barley any schools allow you to take an AP before junior year
thing is that i took 10/12 avaliable aps the school offered (exception being spanish and spanish lit)
New England as in CT?
Massachusetts
ok so
i think ur course plan is balanced well and i think ur extra class (7th) should be focused mainly around ur major
as it will help you more later on
my only concern for ur schedule is science, like its out of order for me
if I were to take a course based for major it would be doubling business or math
bio -> chem -> physics
thats how our school goes by
i believe that if you're able to do well in biology, id go further and do AP Bio as it is basically just an extension but its up to you
Don’t take Chem if u failed bio
^^
id rather take an AP over chem
They don’t offer Physical Science ?
do ap cuz it adds to ur gpa
im better at math then memorizing
geophysical
my gpa rn is a 4.8 on a 4.0 scale
holy shit
isnt ps a 9th grade class?
7th?
my weighted gpa freshman year was like a 4.3
It’s 10th grade for the kids who aren’t ready for Chem in my school
asian standards
ah i see
@rough patio geophysical science is for ppl who did rlly bad in reg bio
💀 my gpa is 3.76
chem sucks balls
weighted or unweighted
you dont wanna take it
🤨
weighted my unweighted is 3.73
they say regular chem is easy
Most Mass schools do Bio —-> Chem ——> AP, Forensics, Physiology
woah
im ngl chem really depends on your teacher
they said theres 2 teachers i think
or 3
one is kinder
one is strict
and idk abt the others
to take ap physics in our school u only need a B- in reg bio and chem
💀
holy
thats super easy
imma be fr with you
i was surprised
Wut… u have to had get an A or above in Chem for us
?
i wouldve flunked chem if my friend didnt help me with alot of it
qwell yea
I’m taking Chem rn and it’s hell
my asian standards forbid me from doing normal classes
any honors ap science classes
💀 i got outta chem with a 92
i feel u 😭
chem is easy imo
but my mom is so disappointed
i got 110 0-0
People from Florida have standards ? 😌
i went from pre-calc online to AP calc
wtf
