#course-selection

The course are usually free for all however you need to pay for the certificate most of the time.
UCScout makes you pay for the class for credit, however, it’s free for california students for their non credit course
edX is really great but you need to pay for the certificate
EdX has free courses with a certificate for purchase
same with coursera
I self studied AP Macro with EdX
If you’re planning on doing an exam and need courses for helping you then these are great then it’s basically free
When you’re talking about speech do you mean like public speaking
From my point of view showcasing versatility is crucial so if I were choosing I would pick orchestra and competitive speech.
You’re welcome anytime ☺️
did you give the ap macro exam yet?
hey i’m having trouble deciding on a course for my freshman year
i could either take the maximum 8 credits this year with a computerized music class (not really interested in it) or take 7.5 credits and half a semester of study hall in the first half of the year. i believe this will give me a tiny gpa boost as the amount of regular classes will go down (1.5 => 1) and the amount of honors stays the same (6.5). this boost would guarantee me to have the highest gpa in my glass freshman year, and like i said, i don’t care much for the class itself. will colleges not think i took the “most rigorous courseload possible” for having a not completely full schedule? what should i do?
(also, i have checked, the only other class offered during that period for me is creative writing which i am 100% not doing)
I personally maxed out all my classes freshman and sophomore year, as well as took classes outside of school, so if you don’t want to take the music class, why not take a class outside of school?
because i can’t
Why not?
Why don’t you self study a class?
I personally can take credited courses outside of school
i take classes in school and those are the only ones factored towards my gpa
good for you
but i can’t
Why not self study a class?
yes
Are you taking the exam?
yeah
Then you’re fine
Colleges will see the exam if you send it in and acknowledge you did other stuff during your freshman year
I’m applying for the aviation program at bcit and it gives options to either do pre-calc or foundations.
What is foundations?
I guess the best definition for it is that it’s a slightly easier version of pre-calc
What are the prerequites for stanford cs undergrad? can i do it without taking phy and chem in my 11th and 12th
I was wondering - what would be the average work load if I took 6 full year ap classes
Like could I do without a lunch period and have 9 classes straight or should I keep a lunch and use it as a study hall and have 8 classes in a day instead
I’ll also be loaded with extracurriculars so I was wondering if the hw and studying was the same as honors only a little different or complex then I would be able to do with or without a lunch/study hall period
Complex because ap classes are in different level where they expect you study a hour a day and attend extra lectures on sundays and mock test.idk if they do this in your school but yeah this is how it works and you have 6 so I am not sure
I haven’t enrolled in six yet I was just wondering . We don’t have extra Sunday lectures or anything or mock tests or if we do it’s probably like 2-3 times a year.
how do you guys manage nine classes 💀 my school only has six a day and i still get burned out
If you’re genuinely interested in the class ig- and I have them with my friends so it’s fun and worth the energy and effort
my school starts at 6:50 so i'm asleep for my first three classes
can anyone help with this
You don’t need to take the class to have a tough course load. Colleges will see the exam if you send it in and acknowledge you did other stuff during your freshman year. Sorry if that wasn’t enough for you, but just making sure that you knew we saw
ok thanks
Going into freshman year of high school, I am taking Biology 9, Honors World Cultures, Honors English 9, Algebra 2, Spanish 2, and Studio Art. Is two honors classes enough? Will universities see that I took Algebra 2 early and take it as a positive? Thank you.
Universities typically reward sophomore and junior year the most, so no doubt you'll be fine. I took only 2 honors classes, though 3 academic classes in total. (Honors Bio, Honors Math 2, English 9).
what about t20? would i still be ok
If you get all As, have extracurriculars, do the other million and a half things, you will be.
No college expects a Freshman to take AP Calc BC, APUSh, AP Physics C at the same time
Freshman taking AP Rocket Science isn't seen
Thank you 🙏🏼
is this for getting into an ivy?
Yeah
could you specify a million and a half other things?
i don't know them off the top of my head
Safe to say that since ivys are competitive, you're going to have to do a lot.
what abt harvard?
^ something that can really is through doing something extraordinary, whether it be academically, athletically, through ecs, music, etc
would starting a non-profit organization count?
Harvard is an Ivy, so yes, that still applies. Harvard does have pretty high percent of legacies, so if you happen to be one, that can help your chances
It depends on what you do with it
legacies?
meaning?
lmao
sry im rlly confused and bad at this lol
Ik this girl who started a massive nonprofit and raised like 700k and got into Stanford + she received a bunch of awards for what she was doing
if the organization makes a change in your community
Anyone can file the papers for a non profit
means nothing
It doesn’t have to just be in your community, but community is something too
yeah
Your parents, your siblings (someone in your close family) went and graduated from there
It doesn’t mean nothing, but yes, it’s more the impact that you should be focusing on
oh no
im the oldest and my parents studied in India
but arent there a lot of indians in harvard?
That’s fine
Same
No no but like first gen?
in us
not college
Quite a few first gens
oh cool!
yeah
Yeah, legacy is just one way though
You can get in academically, athletically, etc
Academically though includes ecs
Yeah
And even if you’re an athlete, you still have to have pretty good grades
GPA and Grades just get them to look at you.
Even if you’re not the best
economics?
For a second yeah
i am not.
Extracurriculars
ohh
any ideas for extracurriculars?
Whatever you’re passionate about
And then try to expand upon it
^ yeah like doing the cliche speech and debate won’t help you a lot unless you’re planning on majoring in something related and/or you win something at the national level
yeah no i would love to start a book and art club
That’s great, I would check if your school has them first
no i wanna start them lol
If they’re already happening at your school, that’s kind of pointless…
i actually started one last year, and we had all three things, reading, writing, and art in our club
Nice!
Do you have any other extracurriculars?
yes
martial arts (im a black belt), hindustani classical singing, and im going to atart volunteering at my local library
and as soon as i come of age i want to start working
uh no.
no.
What martial arts do you do?
taekwondo
idk just i dont want to compete in martial arts
Ah ok, they definitely have independent competitions then
Oh
Well, that’s something that can help you stand out
do you have an idea of what you want to do in college yet?
A lot of people say that AP Physics 1 isn’t worth the time, so if you’re interested in AP physics, I would wait until you get to Calc and do the Calc based ones instead and you would already have a strong basis with honors physics (people recommend this instead of AP physics 1). In addition, it’s very difficult to understand AP physics 1 without taking Algebra 2/trig (which I know you are concurrently planning on taking, but it’s recommended to have taken the class before AP physics 1), and if you’re self studying it, it will be even more difficult. I would focus on AP CSA instead (especially if you’re not familiar with Java) and put some time into that and figuring out your extracurriculars. However, if you really want to take it, go for it, but you make not have enough time to spare.
Don’t take physics then lol
If you’re focused on medicine
For freshman year?
Or in general
Can you take anymore science classes?
I’d say you’re fine for freshman year then
medicine is a tough one with ap courses. there’s always bio, but that would be difficult to self study as a freshman and you should probably take it as a class anyways. if you might do cs, computer science principles would be good for that (though in my opinion everyone should take csp) and super easy to self study.
No one should take CSP 😭
CSA is much more worth the time
imo csp teaches stuff about general computer science most people should know
That’s pretty much only the first unit and the internet unit
The computer parts aren’t even covered on the exam
i do think that people should know the fundamentals of how programming actually works
i guess for a lot of people it could be useless but i’m kind of biased lmao
Yes, but let’s be real
We’re not using collegeboard’s language ever again
It really was and that’s coming from someone who had no prior experience
And while yes, it does teach the logic behind it, it doesn’t require a whole class to do so
it shows how programming languages work in an easy to understand way, but yeah
They could likely combine with another class
It shows how some do, but it’s very much built like scratch
idk about your CSP but im taking CSP rn in JS and it doesnt rlly make sense... they labled the class as a beginner class but dont teach about compilers, IDE, what a language is, and all of the basic stuff. they kinda just jump into js hello world which is fine, but a lot of my friends are complete beginners and they expected an intro type of thing yk. was urs also like this or is mine just weird
javascript
its taught in different languages
Ok, so I'm a I'm going to be a senior in high school this year and have a choice to make. As my 4th AP class I can take either AP CS or AP US Gov and politics. I really like both subjects but there is only enough space in my schedule for one.
Any advice
persaonlly id take ur major into account to help with that
if ur leaning towards CS id go with AP CS
us gov and polotics is only 1 semester i believe
while AP CS A and CS P are 2
your class might just be taught weird idkk
So I plan to go into engineering but I am not sure what type yet.
Yes
Ours does
Ok thanks. 😀
bruh u guys are lucky my school is getting rid of cs classes cause all of the teachers teaching those classes are leaving the school
That's what i thought
good to know
Does anyone have good resources for AP CSA?
I picked AP Euro instead of AP World. Was it a mistake?
Stuck between choosing to do Ancient history or modern history. Any tips on how to decide? I like them both equally
Which one do you think you know the least amount of information in?
No, right choice
More colleges give credit for euro than world
Tbh ancient but then again there’s a lot I don’t know about both of them
What about macro?
You can check college websites for what aps they take credit for
Hey I was thinking of majoring in Animation, what Ap classes should I take?
I'm going into freshman year (high school) and I'm taking a pretty heavy workload including 2 easy ap classes. In considering swapping my honors bio class for an ap bio class. I would either do this or take the class over the summer next summer. Any recommendations or suggestions?
do u have anything else u would take instead of ap bio next summer?
I'm considering a few other options but rn it would be one of the top options if I don't take it this year
Why would you take AP bio over the summer?
If anything, dual enrollment bio would be better because the AP exam is in May, 9 months after summer ends…
My schedule is packed and I would continue doing it over the school year but starting in the summer
So I wouldn't complete the course over the summer but it starts in the summer and it's like almost a full year
So you would self study?
That’s odd
Most of the courses I’ve seen that start in the beginning of summer end December
(If you’re doing a full year)
I'm not sure when it ends but it's a local thing I haven't look3d that much into it because up until now I was thinking I would take it in person this year
But depending when it ends I may swap it for Chem and take it during the next year instead of chem
Soooo I have a question. I am going into my Senior year of high school in a brand new school. I am considering switching from reg psyc to AP psyc. This is the first year I am taking a psychology course. Should I make this transition? This would be my only AP class
yes
psych is one of the easier ap classes to study
so i think you'd def be able to handle the content of it
thoughts on taking ap physics 1 and then ap physics c the following year?
my other option is to take ap chem instead of one of them, but i’ve heard ap chem is tough
If you’ve done Calc, it’ll be a pretty solid transition and you’ll be fine
Yes, but physics generally is as well
hmm fair
hm
AP Psych prob won't be too hard
Okay, thank you! I figured but I am hesitant ever since I jumped into APUSH my sophomore year lmao
this happend in my class too, though i like cs, this was a hard class to just get the hang of while ur a beginner. Atleast for us...it also didn't help that the teacher didn't know what she was teaching us
Lol yeah it's a struggle
I am in an academy divided school and our classes are based on our career pathways, today was my first day of classes and my English class is going to be taught by different subs all year. I was thinking about asking to take a different English class, either a different academy or honors, but not sure if it would be useful as it would be taught by a different academy teacher.
Currently taking and yes, definitely. AP seminar helps with communication and written skills, and AP research helps with conducting studies and such. Capstone can count as a noticeable award on college apps - just make sure you know the requirements.
Is there only one teacher in your academy dedicated to that specific subject?
only one for my grade the other teachers teach 9 and 11 or 12 and I'm a sophomore
Oh gotcha, I’m not sure how your school works, but if you don’t want to be taught by substitutes then I’m pretty sure that English courses are pretty universal in their focus
Mhm!
@lament wave ok thanks
Yup!
have any of you guys taken ap art history
im taking it this upcoming year im a sophomore
if so how is it
im not like too sure how its gonna go because i haven't talked to anyone who has taken it
Well okay i haven’t taken a specific art history ap course, but just as a general rule, art history kinda sucks imo
Its a LOT of memorization
Just basically glorified history with analysis of photos
Hey I’m a sophomore too! I took it this summer and am working on the second semester now and the main thing to know is that it’s VERY heavy on written responses. The multiple questions I can kinda relate to the SAT , not subject wise, but because they try to trick you all the time. Make sure to know the key functions and correct analyses of each artwork, or at least know the general ideas of works from particular cultures. You have to be familiar with around 200+ works which sounds difficult but in actuality isn’t. Overall, not that bad if you like writing and history.
LMAO very true
Yup! You’ll probably like AP Art History then!
hopefully
i also have ap world 2 this year too
but i talked to people who have taken it and from what i have heard its better than ap world 1
Ap histories kinda suck….I’ve noticed that they focus on dates and not really why wars and the such happened, and its SO whitewashed
And yeah from what I’ve heard as well, ap world 1 is like the basics and then they build off of that
i see
thanks
hopefully i will make it
ill probably be fine
im not like a busy person so like the outside of school work should be ok
I wanna self study 2 aps, I don’t necessarily want to self study super easy ones, but I want to take suggestions
- economics 2) psych
What would be the “sweet spot” for the amount of AP’s a Sophomore in Highschool should take? (I’ve heard it’s around 3, but am unsure) Also, what would be good introductions to the AP Courses? (Something to “set the bar”)
I’d say for me AP Human Geography and AP World History: Modern we’re both great intros my sophomore year. You learn a lot about writing LEQs and SEQs, how to attack a DBQ and both are very heavy in content so you get to experience AP workload
Thank you very much for your reply! So AP Human Geography and AP World History were a great introduction to APs since they included a lot of the formatted questions that may appear on other AP tests?
Correct!
Ohh okay, thank you so much! As for a “good” amount of APs that a sophomore should take, what would be your recommendation?
3 if you’re feeling up for it but 2 was a very good option and I was less overwhelmed than my friends who took more.
Any time!
Thank you! :)
Totally forgot about AP Psych!!
also a great intro class
I didn’t take it but I have friends who really enjoyed it.
Too bad I don’t have room for it my senior year
:( just will go over my friend’s notes >:D
hi do you think i should take economics?
I mean its one of the easier ap math classes, so if that’s what youre into, then yeah
And the course is good if you wanna go into anything business or law related
I wanna be a businessman
Yeah then that’s a good ap to take
Tysm!
how hard is ap world history compared to world history — i'm taking world history at school (cuz its the only history class for 10th grade) but im also thinking of taking the ap for it to kinda prep me for apush in junior year, but im just wondering what the level/content difference is and if its just like much harder and need a lot more work
I took AP World my sophomore year as well, and the class difficulty honestly depends on your teacher/school. The class itself had me memorizing not too many events (but there are some key events/years you’ll want to remember), but more so the causes/effects of the events, so it’s not as content focused as APUSH (which I took freshman year). I also found myself memorizing the structure of the writings (LEQ, DBQ, SAQ), so if your teacher doesn’t explain it well, make sure you take time to learn them (my world teacher gave us graded, timed writings, but even if yours doesn’t, it’s good to know for the AP test). The multiple choice tests my teacher gave out were based strictly on our textbook, so I did spend a lot of time reading and watching some review/chapter videos that went along with the assigned reading, as well as taking notes. AP world for me was hard for me at first (88 and 90 the first 2 quarters), but after learning what my teacher wanted, I got my grades up (95 and 96). I think AP is definitely manageable though as a sophomore, especially if you’re not taking too many other APs with it! Sorry for the long blurb!
Is nine aps enough by junior year - I’m still a freshman so I have time but I was planning stuff out and I was wondering if that many would be enough for like Yale or Princeton. I’m not allowed to take aps freshman year but I can starting sophomore year
If you guys want I could tell you which ones
And I’ll still be taking aps senior year but idk if they count in admissions
nine in sophomore and junior years is pretty good
the amount of aps (total) that you should aim for if you want to get into the ivy league is 8-12
and if you’re still taking some senior year then that’s great
But would they count in senior
Like I’ll be taking ap euro, stats and bio as a sophomore
And then ap chem, psych, physics, Apush, Ap Lit, and Ap studio art
which physics
Maybe Ap Spanish
I think my school offers physics 1 only
Oh ok
they’ll see you’re taking the classes and they’ll see your grades when you submit a mid-year update thingy
Thanks
But like what if it’s early decision or early action or somehting
the scores aren’t going to be considered since you get those back after you graduate and are accepted
Yeah
ed and ea won’t care
most people take aps senior year anyways
and they’ll see you’re taking the classes
so that’s all that really matters
I see
the only thing is if you have a certain school in mind, you can check the ap credit policy and see the scores they take. if the school doesn't accept the ap credit then you don't necessary need to take the ap exam
Ok thanks - I didn’t think of that
Hey guys I was wondering if I should take AP physics, I have not taken regular physics yet and I will be taking algebra 2 alongside AP physics, I'm will be junior and know my GPA is important and I know AP physics is a hard calss,
Fyi my GPA was 3.964 cumulative this year as a sophomore
can you self-study an AP science class without doing any of the labs? thinking about doing either AP Chem or AP Physics 1 or 2
i did the same thing during freshmen year, its definitely possible as i had both algebra 2 and ap physics at the same time. if you're a math person, then ap physics won't be hard for you (as long as you apply the concepts). its up to you if you think you'll do well in the class as well.
it'll be hard to do it without since most times when you take an ap science class in school it requires a lab. the labs usually help reinforce the material you learn and help you apply it. its definitely doable depending on how much studying you do etc.
Could someone tell me which class is more useful/easy? I cant decide if i should take 2d art or 3d art and I'm not sure which one I like more since I haven't had experience. If anyone has taken me classes could you please tell me what you have done/if you liked the class? Ty!
I’m in the same boat this year (took algebra 2 while a sophomore tho) lmk if you ever have questions in the class, I can try to help
has anyone taken hs athletic swimming? how is it like, is it too stressful?
Sooo for whatever reason, my school didn’t give me a second semester history class so which of these should I apply for to get
Gender in the Middle East
Native American history from revolution to reservation
Revolt and revolution in early modern Europe
Or, Comparative transatlantic slavery
I'm missing a 2nd period and my AP Calculus BC class
All of those sound really interesting but I’d go with the Native American one. I’m biased tho since I’m from the US
This one sounds the most interesting to me, but go with whatever one interests you most
Email your counselors/whoever is responsible for scheduling
I did
Good luck!
Hi sorry to disturb again but after some researching I heard economics is kinda borng, what do you think about this?
Hello! I currently am taking the IBDP and am taking 4 higher level subjects. I was wondering if taking AP courses would strengthen my application and whether it’d be worth me spending my time on?
Okay so I could get my degree in 1 year after high school, however, i would have junior status and wouldn't be able to do an honors thesis. Should I do that? get my honors in my Masters, or should I split it up. I'd be taking summer classes to graduate in one year after high school. Advisors don't recommend taking more than 30 units in a year, however, it would save a lot of time.
By rule 70 units from CCs can transfer, I have 58. I transfer with 84.4 bc of APs. Im not sure if they are going to let me play the rules like this or not, but i do want to grad with honors, im just not sure what it'd do.
Never mind, not allowed to take that class amount in the 1 year anyway bc I forgot about 6 units I need to take lmao
I spent 5 hours reading policy of this department because I was too lazy to email a counselor
this is the work i'll put in to avoid people apparently even though im sharing it with people.
Honestly it just depends on your tastes, Econ is just glorified stats so if that’s your thing then it’ll be fun! If you hate stats then uhhh maybe not
Ughh I'm so confused rn
Currently did 1 week of computer science course in high school thinking about dropping that and taking econ but then again-
You’re not lazy 💀
Can anyone tell me how to find your interest in carrier perspective?
Take a bunch of intro classes for as many subjects as you can and then that’s how you figure out what you don’t hate
Hi, does anyone have the document for “Do you wanna study this?”
Sorry if I am in the wrong spot.
Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone maybe was willing to help me with my class selections….because this year things got a bit messy for me aha…
hey, how can i help you?
idk, i can try hahah
Could someone help me on this please and thank you!!
I wish I could sorry. I'm only a freshman
I’m sorry for the late reply i’ve been working all day haha…
I am becoming a sophomore in high school and is aiming for an ivy league school like Harvard, ULCA, or maybe Cornell. The schedules were released today and i wanted to know if this was a good scedule to have, since so far i’ve only have two years of foreign language and am not sure which classes i should aim for. I also haven’t took chem or physics. What’re your thoughts? I just wanted to see what others think…
AICE is a kind of AP class that gives extra credit points
If AICE is an equivalent to AP, that looks great
Just curious, is 6 ap classes a reasonable amount for 1300-1450 schools if your school only offers 15 different ap courses? (AP Gov, US History, Lang, Lit, Statistics, and Bio)
If you can handle it
6/15 would look great, but if you have time you should try to stretch them out throughout the years and explore more personal interest rather than rigor
Yeah, at my school it’s limited at which ones you can do each year. So freshman year none are available, sophomore only one, and the rest are available junior and senior year. These are the ones (except AP Gov) I am taking this year and next year.
Hey so I'm confused on whether to pick global perspectives or psychology ??
It depends on what your interest is/what's easier. Personally, on my school district's website, I can see what topics I'll learn throughout any course that my school offers
AP vs IB:
What are some key differences and key similarities?
AP is an advance course which you have to take a AP Exam which is on a scale of 1 to 5. A 3 is considered passing, but colleges decide what score they want to count for college credit. IB on the other hand is what I noticed is like international stuff
A lot more universities accept AP than IB
hey i have a question and im p sure it goes in tjis channel but idk: if my school doesnt offer particular ap’s, what other ways could i be able to take them?
oh and if i decided to do dual enrollment in place of an ap (like say take a college course at a college about psychology becuz my high school doesnt have ap psychology) would that be equivalent to an ap? or lesser?
Take them online or self-study for exams
Hello! So, I haven’t begun my official IB years but I can give some insight. Besides the credit and scale mentioned by Al Pal, I want to talk about the workload and rigor. In my opinion, IB is HARDER. There are many internal assessments and long essays and reports you have to write independently with some supervision from a mentor. IB requires you to be a creative, self-sufficient thinker and is kind of like a “choose your own adventure” story as you get to select your higher and standard IB level classes, as well as reports to write. AP, on the other hand, is less of a program unless you are in Capstone, and more of a type of course. AP is rigorous as well and often requires memorization and an advanced understanding of each subject. I recommend taking both AP and IB classes!
hi guys, so next year I've selected ap phsych as an elective. What should I be expecting?
It’s an easy AP compared to others, I only took a semester and still got a good score with minimal studying
How many classes should I be taking total in senior year?
AP you lose your sanity
IB you lose your sanity but with style
Couldn’t have worded that better myself
Ours is full APS and ibs…
it depends on how many classes your school allows you to take per year
for example my school lets us take eight classes a year
You can take 7, and I currently have 6 with a free eighth and also pre-calc at a community college
which courses are you taking? i would choose courses based on your interested applying major
I’m taking APES, AP Lit, AP Gov, French, Comp Sci Senior class, Pre-Calc, and dual enrollment. I’m thinking about Political Science as a major.
do you have ap gov in your school or ap macro/micro?
oh wait you listed ap gov already nvm
There’s no AP macro/micro unfortunately
No
There’s really not much
I’ve sorta taken all the AP classes that I can but my schedule for Senior year feels too light
yeah I can’t help that much then sorry
i don’t know what classes your school offers so it’s hard to help </3
it depends on the university/school you want to go to tbh. also factor in time for college apps as well
It’s all good, thanks for trying though
no problem!
What should I expect for apush?
My school scheduled me for a class that I didn't even want🫠
My freshman year i was scheduled for three first periods which included Choir, Chinese, and Spanish lmao.
yo i’m a rising freshman who’s taking honors precalc next year and was wondering whether i should take a test + the ap exam to skip calc bc so i can take multi my sophomore year, or if it’s smarter to just take bc calc
Hey guys should I take honors alg 2 or adv alg 2 (will honors be too stressful for a freshman and is it worth it)? I really feel uncertain about honors even though I got in already so if you could give me some pointers for doing well it would be great!
Honors and Advanced are different?
I took Honors Math 2 (Alg 2 with trig and pre calc) freshman year and it was a hard class, first class I got a B in. But it was well worth it.
What if my school doesn't offer honors classes
Apparently this is my source from somebody who went through the class at my school and I wanna know if I should trust it
Honors classes aren't weighted at my school
There are a lot of online courses that you can take the honors class in
My schools regular Math 2 class had a 54% average... my Honors class was an 81%
idk why there would be a diff between adv and honors
bump
Wayyy smarter to take BC
115% take calc BC
no but i’m not taking the class it’s self study so idk if it’s too much work
Hey so um I selected a full year course for Spanish 3 but I don’t want to do it anymore for some reason and I’m talking all honors so I don’t want to take it. I’m thinking of changing it to culinary essentials and software development and game design? Do u guys think I should? I mean I already have 2 credits bc I took French 1 and Spanish 2 so I should be fine in my language part of high school
Has anyone ever taken debate?
is debate a class?
for us its an after school club
Yeah it’s a class.
Is it fun? The only reason I’m takin it is because I want to be comfortable talking in front of other people
eh it can be
I do mock trial and I enjoy that
somewhat similar
We dont have like debate competitions here tho
I think you should take as much as you think you could handle, both academically and maybe financially. It’s fine to take 5, maybe even 6 APs if you wanted to, but remember to consider the weight that decision will have.
I know my school offers some, but idk the exact amount
I would personally suggest going with Spanish since it’s a really important skill, but if you don’t want to do it, no pressure. Debate as a class was kinda pointless but fun. It went over how to structure an argument, how to make one on the spot, and how to see through fallacies. Debate club, if you have it at your school, is a very fun alternative
I believe I’ve heard that 8-12 is the sweet spot. I’m personally on track for 9, but I regret not taking more sophomore year
I have taken Spanish before and I feel as tho there’s no use. I have credits for it. I’m taking debate class for a semester I feel like it can help me a lot
No use? There’re plenty of uses. You get access to so many different cultures and people, and, depending on where you live, being able to speak it can be great for jobs
Up to you tho 👍
I know there are uses lots but it’s gonna too much hw I’m taking honors and I don’t want to overload myself
I know lots of Spanish. I took Spanish 2
I asked this in another channel but didnt get any clear answers, I;m a freshman starting hs in a few days. Over the summer i did a geo adv summer course that I hoped would get me credits and allow me to advance to pre calc/algebra 2. However I was informed by a counsler that I would be alllowed to advace, but not given credits. Idk wether to stay in geo adv and get credits or go up to pre calc and not get credits.
yeah i have no idea what to do :(
Honestly that fucking sucks, I'd say that you should get your credits but that's so bullshit
I'm sorry man
Like idk how important credits really are. I want to go to college for the stem field. I have always valued going to a good school
Same even tho I’m a sophomore and I don’t know how to respond of help sry ohhh and credits are still I’mpotant👀
Are your math credits required to graduate?
Are you from the USA or somewhere else?
yes
usa
I have to do 4 years of math to graduate
But i would still do 4 years without geo adv credits
If you want to go into a math intensive field and you would still graduate without taking geo adv then I would recommend advancing
You'll learn more about your desired field and that's what's important
I would recommend moving onto alg two. I did the same thing except I took the geo equivalent in eighth grade
We do integrated math so we did some pre-calc in Honors Math 2 which is our alg 2/trig class. We do the rest of precalc in Honors Math 3 in 10th. AP Calc BC Junior and AP Stats senior.
some do AP Calc BC and AP Stats in junior and then take Calc 3/4 at the community college senior
I’m taking ap stat and pre calc as a sophomore, and plan on taking calc bc as a junior. But I’m confused because idk what math class is after calc bc.
Multivariable calc
but usualy thats at a college
theres one more variable, my school has a limited number of math classes, so by advancing i wud still take the same classes as not advancing, just one year later
if that makes sense
can you take both alg 2 and geo?
bump
@quiet arrow yes but i dont want to do that
I’m a freshman in the same situation and I chose to advance to algebra 2 and just get the math credits from the harder math classes.
Ok, Thanks for everyones imput. I'm prob going to stay in geo adv
because there is a large chance there is no spots in algebrea 2 /pre calc
So I have a scheduling issue. I can't be in jazz band and AP Calculus the same time. We have a teacher who teaches AP Calc really well. I had him for Pre-Cal last year. I really want to take jazz band because I have not been able to take it ever since middle school. I feel like I would be better at understanding by taking the actual AP Calc class but I won't be in jazz band. Jazz band will especially help with my grades because it is an easy 100 and I am in a leadership position in band. Our counselor said I can take AP Calc online and have the math teacher for homeroom. What do y'all think? Should I just take AP Calc online and study on my own?
That workaround sounds great
Maybe try to find friends who are taking AP Calc and ask to study with them too
Okay cool. I have a friend who is also having the same scheduling problem and he said he is doing the same thing as me.
Should I take AP Comp Sci freshman year with lots of experience in computer science
I was ABOUT TO ASK THAT /SAME YEAR, but I don’t have any experience in computer science :/ . Will I be okay?
I think it’s intro to Comp Sci so it would be easy for you. Not to mention I’ve heard it’s one of the easier AP courses.
Some teachers have reviews and such outside of class time, so maybe if you talk to your calc teacher they’ll let you in on those so you can check your progress?
Would I be able to self study AP French in one year? I’m a senior and the language area of my class selection is terrible so mentioning it might boost that but I literally have just started with a bit of French on Duolingo. Idk if it’s even possible to get to that level of fluency in a year so has anyone tried self studying an AP language
OFC! If you put in the hours. I’ve wanted to do something like this with French/Korean forever. I don’t think you could get “fluent” in one year, but definitely somewhere! I suggest looking up people on their advice. Some people are Johnny Harris and Ikenna. Just start getting used to grammar and learn a lot of verbs each day.
Can you self-study ap comp sci principles if you have no/little comp sci background
^I need to know this as well
Tysm @proven canopy ! I have purchased a book for preparation for the class so I should be good then!
This is a good work around. I had a similar scheduling issue, but because my band director moved me from the top honor band to the lower band in the second semester, and had to work around. I had to drop out of AP Chem and Honors Chem to take regular chem because of it. That work around is better than having to take a lower math. I think you’ll enjoy taking AP Calc online
Is an AS level english course good for 9th grade?
Yeah, I'm actually 9th grade and going to take an AS level english course! I think that as long as you have finished igcse or gcse level english, then you're fine with continuing on with that level (it depends on the school if it allows you to skip prerequisite courses though)
bump
thank you!
absolutely
absolutely; it’s a course made for people with no experience
Guys im wondering if i should do architecture in high school because theres the option but is there a lot of math and is it worth it
please respond asap dont have much time left
there are a bunch of blogs out there saying that self-studying ap exams is seen as bad to college admissions officers
can anyone speak on this
https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/t/do-colleges-like-it-if-you-self-study-aps/1731227 and https://www.readyedgego.com/mythbusters-3-deadly-myths-that-will-ruin-your-chances-at-college/ say this
To be honest, I've heard the same thing from one of my family members.
She told me that don't overdo the number of APs you take, because otherwise you won't have time for other things like extracurriculars. However, I don't think self-studying APs is exactly bad per say, but I would say just not to self-study every AP you cannot physically take
It's more of a last-resort imo (ex: I'm deciding to self-study AP Psych and AP CSP this upcoming school year because I'm interested in both those subjects)
bump
This is what my course work should look like this year (sophomore). Is this a good path to majoring in mechanical engineering?
Digital electronics ( pltw)
Computer integrated manufacturing (pltw)
Chemistry honors
AP world history
Pre-calc honors
Dance team
Bio-tech
English 3/4
- also taking Japanese 3 at a community college (equivalent to Japanese 5-6) in fall sem
-might self study an AP since I already took AP world test and class in 8th grade (passed w/ a 4)
My school doesn’t offer many aps so I’m looking to self study in the future
Any recs
AP foreign languages are usually a 4th year class- don't self study without a solid basis of the language or the intent to put a lot of time into it
That’s a good schedule. Glad to see some variety there like with dance team. Try self studying or taking AP CompSci classes or AP Physics later on
This is my schedule. How do you feel about it?
Thats great! Are you doing dual enrollment?
Is dual enrollment like the high school classes that give college credit?
Tysmm!! I
The main concern for my schedule is the location of my classes since I have to go up and down floors each time.
which one of these three courses would be better for junior year graduates?
yup. i talked to him a bit today and he said that he is letting me stay in his class during the period i am doing ap calc online if i need help on any work.
Yea. just waiting on counselors to change my schedule but my jazz band director has already talked to them about it today so hopefully by the end of this week, i have the new schedule.
prob AP Calc
which one would u say that is
my schedule got fucked up and so there's a chance I have to apply to college with only 1 year of Spanish in high school
love that
my school is so dumb
I mean it's AP for one year
and I have 4 other HS credits
but those are from ms
it is most definitely not a bad thing, though it’s not good to make ap the only thing you do in your free time. i read somewhere that an ao from uchicago rejected someone who took 10 aps in one year on the spot.
if it interests you or you'll get credit, sure, but have hobbies
Hey, looking for advice: I’m going into sophomore year, and during the elective course selection last February I decided I wanted to take Band. However, last April I decided I wanted to quit band and take Ap Macro Micro instead as I’m interested in pursuing economics in college. I told my counselor this, and he said he could try, but I didn’t end up getting ap macro or micro as courses because those courses were “overbooked”. Is there anything I can do about this?
I really want to take AP Macro Micro because I think that taking that course in highschool would look good on my college application since I want to major in economics or business.
Take it online, or take it junior year. Worse comes to worst, you can self study and just take the exam
How can I take it online? What credits or certifications would I get for doing that? How would I get that to count on my college application?
Thanks in advance
That’s something to ask your counselor. There are usually statewide online schools. If you self study you get the credit for the AP exam , I think that applies only if you get a 4 or 5 (maybe 3??).
No problem!
If you live in Florida, for example, the homeschool site is FLVS
I see. So if I took the course online, does that mean that those course credits would show on my college application? One of the main reasons i wanted to take AP macro micro in school was so that the course transcript would show up on my college application in the future.
Yeah. Taking it online is the equivalent of taking the class
Also if you want to major in something related to business or econ, another good class is AP stats
Guys i need help I am currently studying commerce but i want to major in CS and finance simultaneously but i just discovered that you can't major CS with commerce and i need help i have questions like is it true is there any ways
Honestly, I would say try to take AP Calculus BC. It only has two more topics than AB. You'd be repeating a class for only 2 additional topics. It also has an extremely high pass rate.
Since it's senior year, maybe try to talk to your counselor about the placement.
a prerequisite for that BC is taking AB and a prerequisite of AB is pre calculus, which one should i do online?
What would it mean by online, how long, like concurrent? In my school, the prerequisite for BC is just Honors Pre-Calculus, not AB.
^
Make sure you can fit in ap physics c
or ap physics
1
Ye I can take ap physics 1 next year and ap physics 2 senior
1 is virtual ap bio and im talking apes outside of school
is this good?
summer school ranging from 1-2 months
Alright, maybe try that, or talk to your counselor and Calculus teacher(I would recommend). Usually, he/she can change the selection.
For example, my counselor put me in AP Computer Science A even though the prerequisite was AP Computer Science Principles after talking to Computer Science teacher. Talk to the Calculus teacher as well.
THANK YOU 🙏🙏🙏
Looks so, but make sure to create an effective study plan for that schedule.
yeah its the first week and im already dying
😭
its okay tho bc i want to be at the top of my class
Some schools require more math classes. My school only requires our equivalent to Honors Pre-Calc, but other schools do require AB. Some schools require Calculus 1 before AP Calc AB because the calc 1 class is an hs calc class with no credit.
I've seen schools where its Math 1 Honors, Math 2 Honors, Math 3 Honors, Calculus 1 Honors, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Stats or Multivariable Calculus DE
Those are schools that have only 4 classes a semester.
I personally think its too much
Yeah. Honestly, I wouldn't take AB then BC
Because BC only has 2 more units
I woudn't want to repeat a class for only 2 units
But doesn't BC build off of AB stuff?
At least that's what I've been told
^
Weird. My school requires AB before BC
You can't really get around it
Yeah, honestly that policy is stupid
My school requires Honors Pre-Calculus then BC
But many people have skipped
My school is precalc, AB, BC
In my school, AB is if you take grade level courses, and BC is if you take honors level ones
So like CP Algebra 2, CP PreCalculus then AP Calculus AB
Then Honors A2, PreCalc and AP BC
It's weird
But yeah, BC should just have it's own prerequisite instead of AB
Maybe if you talk to the counselor or BC teacher. That's how I skipped AP Computer Science Principles
My school doesn't have any honours math classes
We only do honours english, everything else is either AP, standard, or dual credit
Yeah maybe, but math is kinda my struggle point so idk if my teacher would allow it
ah ok
I may ask her tho
yeah, cuz you'll be reviewing for the first 8 units if you take AB then BC
Either way, it's your choice
Came to keep you update, yes they gave me my 2nd period and calculus BC
Good luck with AP physics
Has anyone used KA for AP Stats self-study? Is it comprehensive, or does it only cover certain topics...?
What is term "A"
Full year course
Term 1 and 2 are for semester courses
My school doesn't offer any honours courses and the only AP classes are in grade 12 and there's only 5 I'm going into grade 10 but I still feel unsure if I should pick an elective I can get an essay A in our pick an elective where I can only get a B in
Question for all of the upperclassmen who have taken APUSH and AP Lang: Is there one that you found easier to succeed in and perhaps could you give me a reason as to why it was like that for you? Thanks
It looks good
I will say that from what I've heard as well as from personal experience, a couple of the harder courses on that list do require a fairly extensive time commitment, but if you're someone who doesn't mind that and retains content fairly well then go ahead. Wish you the best!
Also a reminder that every teacher is different so your experience and mine may be different
Ok, thank you!
Should I take AP Spanish lit or switch it out with an elective?
My schedule looks like this
AP statistics
AP 2D design
AP Biology
Creative Writing
AP English composition and literature
AP Microeconomics
AP government
Ap Spanish literature
I cant take any out
I’ve been selected for those and I really only have say on Spanish and creative writing
oh
tats weird
that*
I'd say take an elective that will go towards your major. Im assuming you've already taken AP Span lang
Psychology is cool
Ap psych is easy and it gets some decent college credit
And from experience i can tell you ap micro isnt really anything either
Yeah ive heard psych is one of the worst to take in college, so it might be good to try and get that credit now
Are there any ways to take an AP course online and still get high school credit?
I'm taking AP World online but it's apart of my curriculum, I'd check with your school staff.
If anyone has ever self studied an AP course, or taken a course online outside of school, do you have any resources?
I want to take AP Bio outside of my hs. They do offer the course for juniors and seniors but I won't ever be able to take it due to scheduling issues
How many AP's did y'all take in high school cause rn I already took 8 with my AP scores all coming out with 4's and 5's but I'm not sure if I should take more or stop here and just go with honors cause I don't rlly have much options left unless I want to do dual enrollment to higher my GPA
I took micro and macro online in this past summer
Around when the new year rolls around im gonna get an ap exam review book, i heard from a lot of people those are really good
And for any ap class there are a lot of youtubers who post review stuff, I know for economics there is jacob clifford
Khan academy has resources as well
I took some ap classes on FLVS as I live in florida, but i am pretty sure people from other states can use flvs as well, its free and its pretty good
I've heard 8 is generally a good spot, 8-12 APs is supposedly a sweet spot in the Ivies
Hey everyone, I actually needed some advice about course selection.I want to take honors English but also have AP classes that are going on,which are AP Gov and AP computer science.Should I take honors English?
I also work and have clubs 4 days a week
Yeah that makes sense
You prolly shouldn’t pressure yourself to take a bunch of courses
That’s a big workload but be mindful that if you take standard English it might end up boring from not being at your level. I had a similar schedule last year but one AP instead of 2 and it wasn’t that bad in my opinion
hi, im a senior now; should i take ap english lit or the world lit course at my school?
context: im an international student and i already took ap lang last year (along with 5 other aps) and this year i am already taking 3 other aps (ap physics 2, ap spanish, ap stats) and im planning to major in stem
the ap lit teacher is new to the post but ive heard he is a good teacher (he aught a different subject at my skl, but i will be a new student to him, while the world lit teacher knows me from before since i had her for 10th grade english
what do yall think? i need help and need to deicde by aug 15th, thanks!! (pls ping me)
I dont think there is an ap precalculus class
Be mindful that calc BC and Bio are 2 period classes
Thats where you live bro
I have never heard of that
I went to 2 different high schools where that’s the case so I figured it was universal my b
Is taking AP gov worth it?
Any good precalculus courses that are online (not khan academy)
Hey guys! I'm trying to self-study an AP class. I want an easy AP course. I, however, can't decide between APCSA or AP Physics 1. I took regular high school physics 2 years ago. I also took APCSP last year. Any recommendations?
Apcsa is better for self study
Yes I am so glad I took it
what’s ap us language
if i want to go into medical field and maybe hopefully get accepted by a really good college (maybe ivy league if im lucky) what are some good courses for high school?
I meant Lang I forgot to update it
anyone any ideas?
Every single bio and chem class you can cram into your brain
ah ok
Would AP Comp Sci or AP Calc BC be better for my senior year?
If I’m being honest I got a ||2|| on my AP Calc AB exam so I suck!! at calculus but at the same time I’m wondering if it’s worth it to demonstrate ✨academic rigor✨. Also idk if universities really think of comp sci as a real mathematics course
ap cs a isn't a math course and i think people use the credits to get out of introductory cs courses freshman year
if you're willing to try it, i would say go for calc bc cause from what ive heard, bc is so much easier than ab
what do you want to go into
career wise
yeah I get that but also I think the reason why bc is “easier” is because the only people who take it are people who like math/calculus hahaha. That’s why it has a high passing rate
nah total cap
calc bc is ab and the second half of calc in one
I’m going into international relations as a major tho so neither helps me in that regard, it’s just to meet the university’s HS requirements
thats why theres a ab score
yeah and I’m bad at ab so idk if it would be necessarily easier for me, yknow?
yeah but its only half the torture
cause its only half the year
the second half is much easier
oh wait then take some other ap if ur going to international relations
try sciences
Is it true that you can change your school class/schedule after the first day of school? Cause I’m too scared to ask anyone if it’s true or not-
HS
that all depends on your specific school
u gotta ask the counselor or principal and give them reasons
they will prolly agree
cause ive seen it happen many times
but they usually want a good reason
I dispise of it
And since I finished AP calculus ab and AP stat, the only way forward would be another AP class
Ooo nice
yeah then ig ur gonna have to push through
choose cs A cause its much easier than calc
what elective
I changed my entire schedule a week into the year and then switched to AP comp gov from AP us gov a month into the year hahaha. As long as you are assertive and have good communication with your counselor, it’s fine!
It’s basically community service for kids
ok I think I might. and just to confirm, you think cs a would fulfill the university’s requirement (“recommendation”) for a fourth year of math?
nah idts
cs doesn’t really count as math
Like ap stat does
But I feel like cs is pushing it
with practice I definitely think you can do well on calc bc
or just try to get it overwith
My school doesn't let freshman take histories, nor people who aren't credit deficient take more than 4 academic classes...
is it just impossible for people from my school to get in lol.
no it’s not, they’re usually just recommendations and are based off of what ur school offers
ah
At my school we have like a week to change our classes
I’m going into my first year of college this fall and I have 12 credit hour classes however I can take up to 16. Should I take one more class with 3-4 credit hours or should I wait to see if what I have is enough for the first semester. A part of me also wants to try for more than 16 but my advisor told me I wouldn’t be able to take more than 16. Any advice?
Yall im taking ap calc ab and I took precalc honors last year, im wondering how much more difficult ap calc is from precalc
i've heard calc is way different from precalc. But im also wondering how different precalc is from algebra?
I would say precalc has aspects of algebra 2/trig and some geometry mainly but I remember a lot of it was new, it wasn't too difficult tho but it was a mix of those 3
alr thx
also I've heard that precalc is almost entirely different from calculus and that a lot of calculus is just a new concept
however that is just what i've heard from upperclassmen
1st semester classes
does anyone know if the capstone diploma is worth it? i heard seminar and research requires a lot of time management and as someone who isn’t the biggest fine of writing, idk if i should switch to another ap like micro/macro?
bc i do have an interest in business
Ooh we're taking the exact same AP classes this year
dang. i started ap american today and i have the rest monday
Oh wow, I guess your school year started way earlier than mine
I don't start until the 22nd
i got out kinda early so that might be why
Ok yeah that makes sense
yes
12 credits is bare minimum for full time, however, to graduate in top (4 years) you want an average of 15 credits a semester bare minimum. You need 60 credits for an AA and 120 for a Bachelor’s.
anything over 16 sounds like a lot, usually you’re not recommended to take over that, however i know people who’ve taken more. If you work or do anything i wouldn’t recommend taking over 16
My school doesn't offer any honours courses and the only AP classes are in grade 12 and there's only 5 I'm going into grade 10 but I still feel unsure if I should pick an elective I can get an essay A in our pick an elective where I can only get a B in
is the elective you can only get a B in more challenging?
prob pick the A elective depending on what yo uenjoy.
enjoy*
If you enjoy the B elective, do that.
Dang we're taking pretty similar classes
I don't start until September 8th lol
Idk what ELO is but I'm also taking the same AP's and Anatomy and Physiology
Aw lucky
Yee, it does mean I get out later tho :/
Yeah that's true
I get out around June 15 every year
Sometimes it's later though depending on how many snow days we have (if we get too many snow days, they're added to the end of the year)
Oh wow, I get out sometime in late May
Dang
You know your class schedule yet?
Well I got kind of a draft of my schedule back in May, but I have a feeling it'll change because I think my original teacher for AP Lang moved out of my school district
I'll probably receive my final schedule sometime next week (I think on Monday)
I hope it doesn't change too much because I was supposed to have two of my hardest classes with one of my friends (AP Bio and Math Analysis, which is basically Adv. Pre-Calc)
Cool, cool. I know what classes I signed up for but I don’t know my schedule yet
I didn’t sign up for AP bio initially, so I gotta ask my counselor to add it
I’m mad my school made it so we start at 8:45 and get out at 3:45
Why so LATE
It doesn’t help that I have a class at the community college at 4:15 that I gotta get to
Eh, I'd actually be fine with school starting at 8:45, I would get a lot more sleep that way. Although I guess it can be frustrating in your situation :/
I don't want to be stuck at school so late lol
I want to start getting up at like 5am anyway
Ah, yeah that makes sense
Yeah :/
my school has anatomy and physiology too. I dont think many school have elo lol
What’s ELO?
its basically an end of the day class where you can do school work. If you have nice teachers tho, you can do whatever
My school has something like that but everyone has it third hour
So like study hall?
Study hall is useful but pretty unnecessary in the scheme of things
do you guys think this is a good schedule for my junior year
Yeah at my school we get to choose art/instruments or study hall
That’s cool. We have a class called “study skills” that’s kinda like that but it can be any point in the day
Seems good to me! I wish I had all of those medical classes
hi, if any of you guys have taken AP US gov and AP USH, which one did you find harder? Which one is worth doing?
yea but like 1/3 of the time we have to watch videos or go to an assembly lol
yess i wish i had those classes- dm me the pathophysc notes as well as the medical lab :)) i just need to study medicine as much as i can
WILL DO!! (:
Hey guys iam interested in graphic design and visual arts I don't know what to take
I’d just suggest to take art classes in general. There’s a few AP art courses you can take if your school has them; otherwise, normal classes would be your best bet. Also try to seek out art extracurriculars whether that’s a club, a show, or something online (may I recommend Prisit?)
I am good in maths, physics and geography but i don't know what stream should i select any suggestions?
I want to take PCM but i am not good chemistry
Maybe a stream in which only maths is required nothing else?
does your school offer a gd course?
What do you mean by gd
Id recommend visual communications, or any art class
graphic design
I’m not exactly sure what you mean by stream but if you’re asking about career, anything involving GIS would involve those things
what's a good undergrad to take to get into med school
helloo :) do u guys think a cert II of health support would help with my career in psychology?
Do y’all think that taking business essentials is a good choice?
Are you planning to start or join a business when you're older? If yes and classmates say it's a good class at your school, go for it
No I’m not but I feel like it’s a good class to learn stuff so if I want to it would be good.
If it sounds good to you, it’s a good thing to do
I took business in 10th grade and the teacher was awesome but I didn’t like ut
it*
it wasn’t getting my attention
uh so I was talking about this a while ago but here's an update, my school won't switch me into a new English class because our school does career pathways and if I switched English I have to switch out of engineering and it's kind of ticking me off because I have yet to do anything other than busy work and I have psats in 2 months. and its the third week of school and we have had a new sub everyday. trying to debate weather or not to discuss switching to med with my parents.
So guys can you explain me what is egneering graphics
drawing machine parts and stuff in orthographi/isometric views
its like reading drawings
hey
sophomore year chem is a mandatory subject right
then I think it is fine to take ap physics with it
but check with your school or something
I'm in 10th grade, and the way my school lays out AP courses, teh only one avaiable to me would be AP Human Geo. I think I still have time to switch out my Engineering Design I course (CADD) to AP Human Geo. Do you think it's worth it. I checked most unis' college of engineering AP transfer and most of them accept some sort of credit for AP Human Geo. Would it be better to stick to an engineering related course or take AP Human Geo?
what math are you in? Because if your going to take Algebra 2 concurrently with Physics, I would recommend waiting till junior year.
I want to get into EE and CS in college. I have basic CADD knowledge since I use to it to build my own personal projects. But if I don't take AP Human Geo I wouldn't have any AP's this year and everything would pile onto Junior and Senior year. But if I don't take Engineering Design I, I won't have any Engineering courses this year
Also thinking from the weighted GPA standpoint, an AP would help. However, I have a 4.36 GPA right now, would it make enough of a difference next year for it to really matter?
in terms of gpa and what will look good for colleges, I suppose Ap HG would be the better options, if of course you can handle it. But if you are passionate and want to pursue engineering and cs, I would recommend taking the engineering course, because although ap hg is easy, ive hear it isn't that interesting.
If anyone else also has an opinion, I'd like to read it so I can make a good decision
I took APCS A last year, and am taking AP Bio and Psych outside of school this year. I think I can handle AP HG, but I'm not sure what would be the best schedule
if you were to take ap hg, would it be because you want gpa boost, or would you actually be interested in the subject
It would be mostly about the gpa boost and college credit, but I do also find interest in social sciences and humanities if it's taught well
well we dont do math like that
there are three levels of hs math
math 1 2 3
oh
i finished math 3 in freshman year
gonna take precalc in sophomore year
off topic, but wilbur
:)
🙂
alr then yeah, you should be fine if you do a little prep beforehand
ok
ty'
no
ok
ty
the only realy prerequiste for physics 1 is algebra 2, which you have
ok
are you taking physics through your school?
oh can you chem and physics concurrently at your school?
Is it okay for me to apply to business/econ programs with 2 years of science (plus 1 physics junior year)
lmao this was one way to clear up the trouble
funny thing is that my counselor sent this and im in band 💀
As long as you can show that you are passionate about it in your app, I think you should pursue what you want to do. are you talking about a university business/econ program or something outside of school?
Are you a junior?
and university business/econ major
yep
just worried about 'course rigor'
but i'm taking the hardest classes in everything else
including a bunch of business and econ ones
I personally think you should be fine, but I don't know too much about business and econ programs so I would also ask someone else
stick with engi
Guys I need help so I’m a junior and have the choice of doing IB SL applications or IB SL analysis?
Do u guy suggest taking Ap psychology during 10th grade and is it hard
ap psych is known for being a really easy AP
sophomore year is a good time to take it
i took the 4-week summer course of General Psychology (Psy-2) summer after 9th and it was very easy. I suspect that AP will be similar or easier (Intro Psych/PSY-1)
how bad is ap chem?
Hey!
Does anyone here know how I can take a Concurrent Enrollment Data Structures and Algorithms course with accreditation? It got removed from my school so it's the only way I can take it.
Is it recommended to do Ap Calculus AB in 11th grade? Or is it better to reserve it for 12th grade?
my school only offered it to seniors lmaoo
Try to take it in eleventh so you can take BC in 12th if your school doesn't allow you to skip AB.
take BC in 11th if you think you're able since its a faster pace and stuff.
Thanks y'all 👍
and is 10 APs, 2 IBs, and 3 honors classes enough to get me into an ivy?
assuming lets say a 3.9 weighted GPA
Is Any one interested in archeology/anthropology major..
3.9/5.0?
Let’s say 4.2/5.0
Hello! I'm a freshmen in high school and wanting to go into a physics/astrophysics major(hopefully).I want to know what to do to be successful and pick the right courses in my high school year. Here are my freshmen classes-: AP Human Geo,AP Princ of Computer Sci,Honors Bio, Honors English 1, German 1, Honors Algebra 2 and Marching band.
(If you got till here ty for reading !)
Probably could with good ecs and class rank
Idk about 3.9 tho
how helpful would 8-10 semesters of DE math classes be on a college app
Hey, I am a rising Junior and I also want to go in astrophysics. Not taking a certain class won’t make or break you, but here are some recommendations I have if your school has a wide variety of AP Classes:
• AP Calc ab/bc
• AP Physics 1
• AP Physics C
• AP Comp Sci A
If you can, take an astronomy course outside of school. You’ll be fine, and I wish you all the best!
^ You should take these classes throughout HighSchool
also think abt competing in the usaaao and potentially the ioaa
Does this schedule seem fine for freshman year?
- Band
- US History
- Spanish 2
- Advanced Biology
- Advanced English 9
- Advanced Geometry
(advanced are the highest level options for courses at my high school besides for AP classes, there aren't 'honors' courses.)
Do advanced classes have more weighting just like honors classes?
bump
Hi! I'm an upcoming freshman as well! May I ask you to give me some pieces of advice on how to get into an AP class during your freshman year? I'm quite concerned and stressed out about it since all my freshman courses were honors.
It depends on the school of course, most don’t actually even let freshman do aps. If you are determined though, you can probably get moved up if you complain enough and get good grades
Well exactly what pecan said buty school had. The option to do AP classes were only 2 for the whole school of freshmen's so
And I didn't have any tests for them
You should be good even if ya didn't pick some AP classes you can always take AP classes in you're sophomore year
So after I finish my algebra 2 what do you suggest me to take also how would I take all the physics classes if I have to take chemistry next year won't I only have 2 years left? And for the como Sci do I need to take it? Or can I take something else. Like astronomy or aomwthing
BTW thanks for the help
After algebra 2 u should prob go for pre calc honors
You cant take AP physics c without taking/enrolling in calculus
Oh
Not yet, there will be in 2023-2024
Ye so take it next year after my alg2?
To take AP physics 1 and C, I would either double up and take both in one year or take one of them over the summer.
Yeah take pre calc honors and then take calculus
So what's c for or like what's different in it
You could probably skip AP physics 1
Ok cool
It's calculus based
Would they allow me to
AP physics 1 is algebra based
Do they expect me to know calculus? For the class
Some schools do some schools don't
Yes but if you enroll in calculus in the same year, they should allow u to take it.
just gotta be fast to pickup topics
And I'm interested in astrophysics does this all apply to that careers
Yes
No problem
What about summer do you recommend taking summer courses?
Cause I have a friend who to geometry in the summer to skip and go to Alg 2 and they are kinda struggling
And I'm not that smart to catch on a years knowledge in 3 weeks
I have an open period next year (rising jr) because I'm taking a class dual enrolment after school. My current courses are: AP Lang, Spanish 1, Band, PE, Precalc (dual credit), APUSH, and the dual enrolment is anatomy and physiology. The classes I'm considering for filling my open are AP Bio (I want to go into the medical field), or an extra English class. Why would I take an extra English class? Well...
I'm considering (re)applying for a year long exchange student program, where I would be gone my senior year. I asked my school councillor about how international credit transfers work, and she said that generally credits transfer well, but English specifically can be a problem. So, I could take 2 English classes this year to ensure that I get all of my required credits for it. If I were to do that, I could basically graduate a year early if I chose to. However, it's far from a guarantee that I get into that program (it's super selective because they pay for nearly everything) so it would kinda screw with my senior year classes if I didn't get in.
I'm just a bit torn because I want to take AP Bio and AP chem before I leave HS, but I wouldn't really be able to do that (senior year I planned on taking AP Chem and another cool medical related class. I think taking 3 science classes (with 2 of them being AP) would be a bit much)
Anyone have any advice/ suggestions? They would be appreciated (Also, sorry about the length, I just needed to explain things lol)
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk
Geometry is completely different from algebra so I understand why they would be struggling
Pre calculus probably makes sense because it's majority algebra 2 and easy to learn
Ok ty
I wanted to take both AP chem and physics this year so I could do AP physics next year but apparently that doesn't work
no they don't
Oh that stinks
they only have advanced or ap
or regular obv
and they only have ap in a few subjects
Just write on ur college application that ur school doesn't offer honors classes
Once u get there
And try to dual enroll maybe
Once i'm in 10th i'll probably just take most of the ap's my school offers (i wouldn't be overloading myself there's only like 8 total and I would only be able to take like 6)
we can't even take ap in until 11th at my school
we cant do more than 3 and not until sophmore year uhmm
We only can do 1 in sophomore year
yea like the average person can only do one, which is AP world history
however if in freshamn year u were in level 3 of a lnaguage, and in precal then u can do AP cal and an AP language
Currently writing my counselor to try and get into AP Chemistry without prior chemistry experience...
If they offer my English class 6th period second semester I can do it.
If they don't, I can't
Is that possible you're in your freshmen year rn right?
For biology?
I am not a freshman
Don't honor and AP mean different names I think it just varies from school
oh my bad
Oh yeah I'm taking that rn
and also Bio at my CC
community college
Like i took biology there for the bio credit
I took honors bio, then the summer after i took Bio at my CC for the biology credit towards my Bachelors
Oh that's really smart you think I can do that for chemistry in the. Summer and take AP physics my freshmen year
Oh wait I think I'm confusingyself here
You took the credit in school but also did it in cc?
one for high school credit and one for college credit
my school doesn’t do dual credit things sadly
U can do that?
ye
I enroll in the community college as a normal student
and i take a class there
like normal
lmao
it’s almost 5 am here i gotta sleep eventually
i had to get letters of recommendation and stuff from my counselor and principal, some schools only do that for your Junior and Senior year, i got mine for second semester of freshman year which is rare already, but i used it for summer and fall.
I have to get a new one for the upincoming spring semester but it’s easier
💀
Im nowhere near gifted
not even at a feeder lol
a feeder?
Would Ionly get in through registration
depends what state/college or uni you apply too
"Feeder schools are high schools where many or most students go to higher education institutions, often the most prestigious schools like the Ivy League. Many parents believe that they should send their children to elite private schools to guarantee their children spots in the Ivy League."
ah
you don’t have to go to one if your gifted lol
True ig
my school considers the 3 aps in one year gifted
Soo just have to ask the cc?
They usually have it on their website
Any courses the college offers
Ok thanks
unless their program has restrictions
some might have restrictions i don’t know
i see it as plausible lol
Usually for CCs you have to be in their service area for it to be free.
that’s in California though
Oh I'm really close to it
Oop
