thats a major change
same here
i know but art makes no money lmao
so yeah
just trying to get into stem now 🙂
well yea
art can be a hobby
until it makes enough to become ur main job
Yeah that’s what my mom does
Yeah but you could be different
my mom is an artist and that's why we're low income 👍
well thats not realky recommeneded lol
thats like gambling your life to be the 1 in a 1000
Yeah but I go to an arts school 💀
sad but true. you gotta get the money 😭
Not really
money first then passion
There’s so many other things you can do
that's true
If you want money
you could become an art teacher if you want something stable
No 💀
nah i couldnt bro
Business management
i hate kids
lol
Product design
You could be a professor
i gotta be the richer than elon musk now
With an art major?
that's the goal
yessir
Yeah probably
graphic design
bro art schools nowadays are not good
animation
you will have a hand injury
My mom is a director in a tech company and she majored in microbiology
She went to night college in the us
isnt animation low pay snd lot of work
That depends
idk
but it's more stable than just artist
My dad made quite a bit as a professor
trye
i mean unless you go to the old fashioned ones but the modern ones just give ideas
Plus it gave him a lot of time
art is supposed to be self taught anyway
and self motivated
Makes sense
anyways
its fine
i'm ok with stem
imagine ideas
I mean if you’re so set on the idea
You probably enjoy it
Stem I mean
my mom's lawyer said its the only way anyways 💀
does okay mean like?
depends but proffesors make decent money definitely
no it's true
Yeah ofc but you get time too
law is not a stem proffesion lol
if you're a woman and you get into stem, there's so much you could do
My mom isn’t in stem 💀 I would know
She made more outside of stem than she did in
ok but like
Her stem salary was like a 1/3 of her salary now
those are exceptions
that's not counting the stuff they give away today
Not really
There’s quite a few professions
Outside of stem
plus stem gives good foundations for other stuff
bro internships are so annoying to find outside of stem
lolol and here i am struggling to find one in stem
exactly
I want to do sociology or poli sci or something like that and broo
Law, business, product design, project manager, anything in management pretty much, and those are just things at the top of my mind
how is that hard bro
i can't find any ones in art
oh right management is a thing
My friend got an anthropology/sociology one sophomore year
Same
Cause they’re not easy to get
idk i dont see any on mu school website or linkedib
Yeah you make a lot
stupid linkedin only has stem internships for college studbets
Because Covid + they’re taken
i applied to so many
the virtual ones?
ok
where???????
but sidnt even get a reply
yeah stem is super hard to find 😭
Rn yeah it is
that is ideal actually
I applied to a hospital, a lab, etc
💀
i need before college apps in a few months
The lab didn’t even reply
Ok bet I’ll add you and let you know
tehyre everywhere
screw recesssions
I’m not doing a virtual bio internship 💀
I’m already doing a bio class online
i know but im just saying
That’s really pushing it
like stem is the most pushed thing out there
Trust me bio online isn’t it
dude nothing online school does helps 😭
Rn yeah but if you truly look you can find stuff
I might look into local political internships
Anyone got any class recommendations, going into senior year and have an extra space
those are easier to get
art stuff?! no
Virtually?
yeah where lmao
most of them dont even offer volunteer hours
only problem is I live in Texas so politics I agree with are- less common
or a future
because most artists are self-employed
so ofc it's not gonna be helpful
same except in illinois
lol nice
Ok but internships usually don’t…
although i'm not that into politics so idk
What about virtual ones
yeah that's why the free ones you gotta watch out for
No like none do 💀
some of them take advantage of your time
and time is money
Community service is the way to go if you’re after hours
I'm going to start volunteering for Beto, but actual internships are pretty rare I think
That’s the whole point of an unpaid internship 💀
unless ur in college
i would know because i joined one student led and the ceo piled work after work for me
no it isnt.
Gl! Volunteering is very fun
Yeah it’s free labor
yeah I'm excited
And in return you learn
I’ll bet
the point of an unpaid internship is to be worth it for you and your future career
not wasting your time
You learn from it yeah
That’s what you get from an unpaid internship
really hope Beto wins in November tho cause the current Texas governor is getting on my ducking nerves
well i've been in bad ones so
And o was talking about from a company’s point of view
i didnt learn anything except to watch out
and be more careful
Were they legit places?
i was talking about student led ones 😭
well yeah
Why would you ever join a student led one 😭
i dont know because some are well organized
but some arent
so yeah im careful now
a lot of the CEOs do nothing
Yeah unless you’ve had first hand experience I would steer clear
i'm in a few good ones though so at least i didnt waste a lot
honestly though
people should be careful of the student led ones
especially if theyre not really non-profit
and they just say they are
That’s good
if you are interested in the medical field and the arts, i can dm you one of them that does exactly that
the ceo is underage but at least she actually made it into a real nonprofit
I’m interested yes
Could you dm me one?
I need advice, should I take ap calculus ab course or bc? Can I take them both at the same time? Also with physics, should I take physics 1 or 2 or C? Or can I take them all at the same time? Mind you I’ve one year of school left and just now my school introduced AP classes.
- anyone know where I can find online AP physics courses (1,2&c) that have the gpa booster available because just found out that my school doesn’t offer any AP physics
No point in taking AB and BC at the same time. Physics C is best taken with Calcluls and givesthe best credit
So I should take physics C and calculus BC?
What abt physics 1&2
Thats the top work load
bad credit, good gpa weight.
Hmm
most colleges don't accept 1&2
I’m aiming for MIT, and I know it’s a long stretch but, My school never offered honors or AP before this year
And it’s my last year of school
hm
I do have a gpa of 4.0 tho
I’ve had a 4.0 since 8th grade
So i need help deciding what’s more important
Credit or gpa
hm
that should help
I went through these -thanks a lot- but I still don’t know if having more credits will increase my chances of getting into mit compared to getting a gpa of higher than 4.0
i think having a high gpa, relevant extracurriculars that show leadership and innovation, and challenging yourself w hard courses is good
i dont really think the amount of credit matters, its more about what comes as a result of taking a certain class yk?
I see your point
Then I’ll take physics C and calculus BC
Because mit and any other universities I apply to should take into account that my school didn’t offer ap or honors before my last year right?
Yes
Yaaa
yeah theyll take into account that you werent given that choice, but also if ur school doesnt have ap maybe they offer a thing where u could do double enrollment into a community college nearby, that way it shows that your taking a high level class, your creating a new oppurtunity for urself, and if you do good in that class it helps
Some schools don't even have that
So you'll be fine if you take advantage of the resources available
I can’t do that 😭
oh💀
online classes then?
like BYU
only problem is they cost a ton of money
its ok tho colleges will take ur situation into account, just have strong extras good grades and overarching theme or story to ur application and ull be fine
like 300+ per semester
man i wish my school didnt offer aps lol
there are so many sweats
u dont like aps?
i do, but toxic environment.
oh now it make more sense. ppl make classes suck, not the actual class.
frfr
LMAO
How to get into Amherst College ?
Google "Amherst common data set"
Then click on "first time, first admission"
Also check their website and look for their average SAT/ACT scores and try to get above that
moood
Which Physics C would you recommend with Calculus BC?
both?
Yes, so like Electricity and Magnetism or Mechanics?
I don’t think you should take both physics C and Calc bc unless you’re super interested in it and you don’t want any other electives
And if you actually have time for that
My school makes us take both
My school has them both in the same class
Weird
Most schools don’t
Oh
Its a common practice I thought
Nope
First year of high school what classes should i take?
I think it'd be best to take lighter courses and get a feel for what high school is like, then in sophomore you should take more rigorous classes if you think you can do them
Ah thanks for the advice
Whichever you’re interested in
I mean, taking more difficult classes your freshman year can open more opportunities your sophomore year
And it’s good practice
True, I guess it's all up to what they think is best
Is a free period worth it in your sophomore year?
Nope
Free periods do look worse to colleges who are looking for the most rigorous courseload
couldnt that also look good on college apps that youve dedicated time to more rigourous courses early on in hs?
Yup
Yeah ofc
In the end though, it won’t make a huge difference when it comes to college apps
For me, the real value came from early experience as well as building good study habits
meanwhile i have like 11 free periods for this upcoming semester on my school system... (idk it's funky but im taking a full course load just some of them are online and others are only for certain days of the week lol)
uhhhh
lmao
How the
Im not gonna ask but if you're taking online classes I presume a college will be able to see that
yea it's funny idk either
well i do but i dont feel like explaining it
yeaaa lol
nice :))
ima have to find room for my college classes and my AP hw
like that's legit longer than most sports
yeaaa that's gonna require intense time management
I got google calendar on my side
that's a tight schedule. kudos to u
thats good
I had to quit soccer this year sadly
omg :((
bad injury and my doctor won't clear me
choir is fun
very
my school doesnt rlly offer any sports/band/anything rlly
Darn :c
💀 cause it's not worth it
like the only purpose of my school is to let kids get their associates
so each grade level is only 50 kids
Oh 💀 one of those prep schools
it was free tho
yeah
so that part's nice
They all are
oh lolll
yea there's some cool ones tho, like rutgers in NY
ohhh nice
did u have to apply for it in 8th grade?
Yeah
did u try for it? or did u not wanna do it?
I was going too bc they were a performing arts school. I looked at the rankings though and my public school is better
oh ok that was a smart decision then
Bc their school day was from 6:40-4:30
Darn
like 4- 5 hours of choir a day
ohhh ok that makes sense
My school day started at 6:45 last year and went to 2:30, but i would be at school till 9-10 (two nights 11)
😭 omg
After a football game they forgot a bus for the percussionists so we were stuck there till 2 am
thats so long
well it wasn't at our school
it was at a school in the next city over
But the district themselves acknowledged the mess up and told the teachers to give us a break and they did
Nope, district policy
thats good
Bruh I start at 7:45 & get out at 2:15 on a regular day 😭
they should change that for emergencies, like they shouldnt hold kids for that long... but oh well not much u can do about it
this year we start at 8:30 and go to 3:19
were your parents worried?
no 💀
they were all kept up to date that we were left in the freezing cold with no transport home for hours
but also parents dont wanna drive that far lol
bc we're a poor area
Gas was like $5 back then
now its 8
lol
band stories man
I enjoyed band last year, i am just not liking it this year
Where you at lmao
😭 u make me feel so fortunate
north carolina
but I'm closer to the coast than inland
NC is the eastern version of cali for the most part
oh lol
Like looking at our school systems and laws
I have read through NC law
im bored sometimes
one difference is you guys use ADM and ADA for funding while we only use ADA
average daily membership and average daily attendance
ohh okay thank you for elaborating because I wasnt sure what that is.
that interesting idk that
that's pretty cool
Yeah
NC bands are better than cali bands
Moorseville High School had a good one pre covid
I have friends that went there
😭 dang i wouldve thought it wouldve been the other way around
We have better percussion in percussion only comps
thats cool
But thats technical
In like full though like
horns and perc together
South in general just way better
💀 yeaa i used to live in florida and I remember that the high school's band was like pretty good
Same
like they went to disney world
yep
oh, how did you like it?
Moorseville did a few times lol
nicee
I liked it better than cali
the one difference is that I could start college as a sophmomore in cali while a junior in fl
like actually dorm and enroll? or do you mean take classes while being in high school?
take classes while being in high school
I got a 99/100.5 on my bio final this summer
omggg good job
Yeah
congrats
thanks
np :)
Easier than HS bio though
💀 that's actually pretty funny
I took Honors BIo last year and then i took a 4 week class at college and it was the easiest vs
Bs
Better grade in this class too lol
tbh i like summer classes bc the fast paced-ness is good to just get it over with
yeah
niceee
Easier to rememebr everything
Im supposed to be making a study guide for my psych final rn
I HAD A YEAR LONG BIO CLASS LAST YEAR
bro it was so hard to remember stuff for the final
ohhh haha, sorry. Ig you should work on that. Good luck!!
All classes are year long here except for health, American Culture, Gov & econ, some electives
ohhh dang
we have 6 classes a year normally
i normally have semester long classes
You can have 8 max if you fill it up but its not worth it
I have 7 mormally
normally
that's cool
yeah
NC does it better
4 classes a sem
Over here we call it an "Excel Schedule" and only a few schools do it on the bay area
Daym
we only need 13 classes to graduate by state alw lol
last spring i did 6 classes cause i was taking a rlly easy online class
ah
that's it?? dang
Districts have their own rules though
ohh yea
My district requires 4 years of english and PE
state only requires 3 years of english and 2 years of pe with the first year required to be during the school year.
I'm pretty sure NC sets the graduation requirements
Yeah
like districts can't change it
Ye
Our state makes guidelines
ohhh nice
but ^^ along with that. The state says we need a physical sci class to gradute which means like chem or physics. BUT MY SCHOOL IS FORCING ME TO TAKE PHYSICAL SCI which is non honors
and im so mad about it omg
Oh wow
Integrated Physical Science is for the kids with a 2.0 or below in my school
gpa^
yeah 💀
omg
Oh and a foreign language
🥲 idk why my school does this to us
You cant take one unless you have a GPA of 2.5 or above
since they aren't required for graduation
oh dang, idk that
right, but it's highly recommended for some colleges lol
spanish?
My school doesn't have dual credit for anything
Yes
nicee
I wanted to take German but the school that offers it is far away
wait so ur college credits don't transfer to ur high school grad requirements?
Ye
;-; dang
aw man :( I had a friend that wanted to take italian but the community college near me doesnt have that
we only have spanish
My counselor said no to taking AP Biology bc i wanted to take chemistry during the summer... so i took biology over the summer at college lmao
and we're supposed to have french and german but no professors teach that
NICEE
Same
we're supposed to have German 1-4
We don't lmao
💀 now u can take the ap bio exam if u rlly wanted to
that's good tho. i mean the college course is easier than the ap class
yea lol
way easier
dangg :(
I can only take 2 classes or up to 11 units per semester
took 6 units in 4-weeks with summer school PE for the first three (4 and a half hours a day of exercise with sundays off)
2 classes lol
danggg
yeaa. You're definitely capable of taking as many as you want
classes are typically 3-5 unit
it just sucks that they restrict you
ohhh nice
state doesn't wanna pay for more lol
i'd pay for em on my own but state law requires you have a high school diploma
💀 damn. i mean maybe ur parents could enroll you, and they have their diplomas jkjk ik that's not how it works
lmao
ASU wants me so i could take classes there online without one
and NAU
im not even in arizona but i keep getting letters and emails lmao
That's good! You could just transfer credits lol
Maybe
I mean arizona is like pretty close to cali lol
my dad is actually stationed there rn haha
ou haha
Me x UChicago 💀
no same they just sent me smthn in the mail today💀
Fr these colleges are doing too much
exactly im only just going into 10th grade calm down a bit bro
bye... i just got one from uchicago yesterday
I turned on that collegeboard advertising thing and I regret it so much 💀
They were really doing their rounds this week 😭
send me letters in the mail
yepp
that's cool that you got a free shirt
Same
yea fr
its a good school but idk if i could afford it
It is
I plan on going to UC Berkeley
I don’t think I could live in Tennessee though
good luck :))
Hopefully me too
i hope you get in
same
oh both of u
What class?
Yeah Berkeley is very close by
oou
24
Im 25
Midwest is not for me
Very awesome
Tennesee is not mid west
it's like south
ima hopefully start as a junior or senior
this
Ok south
?
💔 i like the south
getting my IGETC and my major requirements done at CC
I don’t think the culture is for me
ohhh
so all ill have to do is take 8 courses
i get that
What’s IGETC
Yeah Texas freaked me out 💀
transferable credits i think
Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curicula
I do as well
Makes my life easier
AP Gives me credit and then i take cc classes
And we can only take one college course at a time
we can only take 2
Yeah I don’t have time to go after school
💀 i dont either
Have fun!
Wait do you live in da
Ca
yes
No
pdfs are fun
Well I mean if you want the cc name
They are
I’ll dm you the reason why 💀
alr
felt that
i took the entry spanish college class this summer
and i needed my mom's help but i felt bad asking her so i ended up checking my work most of the time with google
You should use spanish dict
yeaa i plan on doing that for the vocab
i took middle school spanihs so i knew like half the words already
What do you see yourself as in the next ten years?
Then I sounds like med school and engineering is what you need
Both are very rigorous and props to you if you can pull all of that
Including bio
Probably medical studies
It aligns more with what you actually want to do
Well if you care about it then no
Stanford.
MIT, CMU, or Stanford
^ UC Berkeley too
What is the best schools for engineering
I thought stanford was the best
first of all
it literally doesnt matter where u go for cs
second
cmu is better than stanford for cs
17.3% isn’t high…
It depends on each person
Its high
Some people may like cmu more, other may prefer Stanford
Stanford isn’t an Ivy
stanford is a good school sure
And also, I would do some further research on acceptance rates
but mosty ppl arent gonna go there
like very raaareee
Because I did, and there’s some surprising things that they do
Yeah what Ral said
You know you can always google, right?
And this is the course selection
#💡ㆍacademic-advice would be better
Or better yet #majors
All good
So do i take the difficult classes?
If you think you’re up for it
Not everyone is ready though freshman year and that’s completely ok
I can push myself
should i take ap bio this year?
is it more useful to take honors spanish or ap latin?
useful would be honors spanish
AP Latin could get you the seal of biliteracy, but Honors Spanish might be more useul in terms of college
What grade are you going into and have you taken chem?
Then do it
i will be a junior and yes i took chem
I agree that honors spanish would be more useful, but if you can, taking AP Latin, as said above, will get you the seal of biliteracy
Are you interested in it?
i mean kind of. when i took reg bio as a freshman it was fun
although it was a bit difficult i was able to learn it
Hmm, if you feel like you can handle it and then it’s worth it, then you should
i am already bilingual, will being trilingual be much more impressive? and for more background info, i’ve already taken latin for two years and intend to major in business
alr, ig i will consider it. though i am already taking ap comp sci principles, ap physics and ap eng lang
thank you
I think that being trilingual is impressive, yes
AP CSP is really easy, so AP physics and lang will probably be your hardest
I would take AP bio
ok thank you
Np and gl!
Which one is better, ap world or ap euro? I chose ap world and I’m going into 10th grade.
How do I start selecting🤑
i would say whichever ur more interested in if u don’t really like either of the options i would ask some upperclassman how the class was and choose the eaiser one
AP euro is better as you can earn credit at more colleges compared to world
The overlap of material is fairly high, euro just goes way more in depth
I’d say about 80% is overlap, but it’s easier if you take euro first because the world content is more broad
Ok ty
Yall take AP Lang if you can it is so worth it and helpful (If your teacher is good) it improved my wiritng skills a lot
Is self studying ap bio a good idea?
There are a lot of factors that go into this:
- Why do you want to self study bio? Is it because you have an interest in it and can’t take it in school or bc it’s an extra AP?
- Do you have time to self study it? Are you taking a difficult course load? If you are, it might be best to stick to what you have
Colleges want to see that you are challenging yourself, but you could be doing an extracurricular that you are passionate about in the time it would probably take you to self study bio. Doing something you are passionate about is more important than an extra AP
Does harvard accept Duolingo English test Results?
ud have to check their guidelines
Probably not lolo
^
look it up on their website
no lol
Hey I’m new here but I want to ask y’all a question. Do you think a major in journalism, cinema arts or communications is a good career path?
It’s what ever you feel the most passionate about and know you can thrive in
(This one’s long, be prepared)
I’m gonna speak from a salary/workplace perspective. I personally think they’re pretty mediocre to downright bad majors to go into due to plenty of factors:
-Being too general, especially true for cinema arts and communications. Majors that are too general are bad for employment, since employers like to see that you’ve specialized in a certain skill, rather than being decent in a number of skills. The one-trick pony wins.
-Poor job outlook. You’re not gonna be able to pay off debt with a poor paying job, or well, no job at all. It’s very hard to get into the cinema or journalism industry, and once you do, salaries and working conditions aren’t that great unless you’re a famous actor or something. As for communications? I literally cannot think of any job or industry that needs someone with a communications degree. I’ll be happy to be proven wrong though.
-Generally, you don’t need a degree for these fields to get into them. Yea it’s useful, but you could easily teach yourself and get employed without it, rather than waste thousands of dollars of debt.
If you really needed to choose out of these 3 majors, choose journalism. Still kinda mediocre but if you put tons of work in, you could do some great stuff with the degree. Otherwise, you probably should choose another major or minor in one of these if you’re really passionate about them. I’ve seen tons of people go into debt from these kinds of majors, and although I definitely think you should follow your passions, you also need to take into account the future that you build yourself up by following that passion.
Stay away from art degrees
Unless you enjoy debt
Thanks for your opinion! I was worried about salary and debt problems in the future. I will take those perspectives in to consideration!
I’m guessing that a history major is also useless lol…
I can't really think of any jobs where you'd need a history major
- journalism is dying
Sad but true
I guess you may be able to go to polisci
If you’re dedicated about being a historian then they can earn some good money I think
I mean it depends on what you want to do with it
Yep, that too.
Isn't that a different major?
^ and write books
These are my top career paths
- Broadcaster for NBC, ABC, CBS, etc
- Hollywood (my dream but you know…)
- Foreign Journalist
- Producer for music (also a dream lol)
They’re all horrible aren’t they?😂😂😂
No not at all. Ain’t horrible if it’s your passion.
Nah
You just have to work extremely hard, be talented, and have luck on your side
Connections too
It’s just because as a Asian I have all these expectations in math and I’m horrible at math so these are my dream jobs
I’ve been slowly making connections and my online oortfolio
Portfolio
💀 stereotypes
💀
That’s good to know. That portfolio gonna be great in the future.
🥹thanks!
Np
I mean not to be selfish but at 14 years old and abt to be a freshmen? I think im better(?) prepared then other kids but who knows
You definitely are if you’re already figuring out your major and future.
Though I’m sure other kids may be doing that too, but from my experience, not a lot.
I live and will be attending a high school where the kids are SUPER competitive
Oof
That’s the exact opposite of my school; not a lot of kids care about their future.
But I’m used to it
Could we like switch schools or something lol, I need the competition.
It’s in my blood
Lol, if only.
Yeah, you too
TheRealYun, out!
See ya
Ayo sammeeee
Freshman college??!!! Or highschool? Cuz in my area you would be 14-15 entering highschool (minus the two prodigies that are frickin 12😅😓)
Pretty sure he means high school
I think you mean egoistic, not selfish
If i went to an ivy league, I'd totally major in history. you could still go into investment banking/law degree/even an MD if you complete the prereqs
even if you do cs or whatever you'll rarely ever need any theory(which is the crux of a university education)
how many courses would you guys say are sufficient
What do you mean?
in most college applications I've seen they ask you about the courses you've taken and some information about them
I just wanna know how many courses would be optimal to talk about in my application
unless the courses aren't really THAT crucial
Talk about your most rigorous courses and the ones that apply to your major.
Don't talk about physics if you're majoring in art history
Idk if there is an optimal number
High school 😅😅😅😅
Not THAT smart…
actually-
it's normal to be 14 as a freshman
Exactly…?
so why did you think you were being selfish?
i’m 13 and a rising freshman
2009?
LOL
u can still flex tho💀
yeah lol
Idk I have self confidence issues 😅😅😅😅
Flex what?
I'm so confused
Going to high school at 13-15 is the normal age
Yeah
Why does it matter? You should focus on being the best you can be
In that case, I was 14 in my precalc class 💀 made no difference even though there were 18 year olds there
HAVING EXPECTATIONS SUCK
What happened?
That’s fine
People in 11th vary from 15-17
Like if you're smart
Asian, strict-ish parents, competitive school district, etc
But going to high school at 13 doesn't make you smart
In that case, that means most of the population is smart
That's why I said if
So there's a possibility
That
You're
Not
Smart
Academically* THO
You didn't understand my statement
Going to high school at 13 is average
Normal
Average does not = smart
Yes
That's why you can flex if you're smart and the others are average but you're the same age
This is a weird hill to die on
You said he could still flex
But he never flexed anything
So your statements make no sense
Ya I said that cuz another person was saying how they think they're doing better than the others cuz they're 14 and a freshman?
Same to you...
I feel you
But at some point, you’ll realize that all that matters is that you met your expectations
People can flex if they’re smart no matter what age they are…
That’s stupid
Yea it is I realize that now
You’re if flexing that you’re smart compared to people who are average, that’s just someone who needs an ego boost to add to their already immense ego
Age really doesn’t matter tbh
Especially that small of a difference
Yep I agree now
Great
Is taking AP Chem my Junior year a mistake?
Not if ur ready.
This might sound a bit weird and probably very odd but do you guys have tips to learn all/most of algebra 2 in two weeks? I’ve been using khan academy but I feel like they might’ve missed some topics + I live in Texas so there might be some curriculum differences. I need to take a test for it to prove my mastery and I’m not very confident I’ll do well 😭😭
I want to take precal this year (10th grade) so I can take calc next year (11th grade) so I’ll be calculus ready by the time I apply to college
I would reach out to a teacher you’ve had or will have and ask them for their algebra 2 curriculum to double check what exactly you need to work on. I live in California and my algebra 2 class was very irregular, so I can’t really give guidance regarding concepts, but it’s extremely helpful to have a strong algebra foundation for precalc
What do you mean calculus ready?
i was at a university near me for a game dev camp and they said that they require people to be “calculus ready” by the time they apply to some specific majors (ex. geology)
you’re right! but we are still on summer break rn so im not sure when they’ll see the email 😦 but i did email my counselor so I’m just waiting for her reply!!
Ah alright, I’m not sure geology requires calculus, but taking calculus your senior year would make you just as ready
Ah ok, I’m sorry, I hope they see it soon!! Gl, I would just keep working on khan and master all those concepts
that was my original plan, but the uni said that it must be by the time u apply and since im planning on applying early, i have to have calc down
yeah I didn’t think geology needed calculus either!!! it was def weird
That’s quite odd, I would double check with someone
Perhaps it does? I mean, if anything, I would think stats is more important for geology
they were an admissions counselor themselves though so 😭 but i think that there must be some alternative if you didn’t take calc in hs
ahhh tysm!!
Ohh ok, I would listen to them then
Ofc!!
Is it worth it to take AP Computer Science Principles as a Senior??
Grade weight 🤷♂️ More rigiorous course would look better
what do you guys think of Udemy courses
Are they worth it? I'm thinking about taking a few for my applications
And it would be great if anyone can suggest some courses in Maths/Physics related to Aerospace engineering
nvm Udemy doesn't offer certificates
suggestions for some nice courses would be appreciated
im a korean citizen thats living in korea. im planning to take korean B standard level for ib dp. i can easily get a 7, and my school allowed me to take rhis couse. will this negatively affect me when applying to college?
It will not negatively affect you when applying to colleges but also not really increase your chances of acceptance, you're good. don't worry about that too much
thank you 🙂
Hello! I am currently an incoming sophomore and trying to figure out what to do with my schedule. This is my current choice of classes.
- Chamber Orchestra
- Symphony Orchestra
- AP Psych
- AP World
- AP Seminar
- AP Eng Comp
- Dual Enrollment Earth space science (online)
- Precalculus
My current dilemma is that our precalculus teacher who was the same teacher for algebra 2 which I took last year is awful, I passed the course with an A somehow and concepts were easy, however, she made it really difficult to get a good grade, explained simple concepts in the most confusing manner, and also made pretty ridiculous tests which were worth 100 times the amount of actual assignments in our grades . If I take precalculus with her I can't guarantee that I'll be able to pass with an A based on how she does things. I really want to take it online and have the option to but I'm not sure if it would be too hard. If it isn't that bad I would definitely opt for that. I'm also debating on if I should add AP Lang or remove it from my schedule.
I want to take AP German, but my school does not offer AP German. I searched on College Board's website and they said to request from other schools. Is this effective?
if she teaches things incorrectly/confusingly, you can learn the material online whilst taking the class in person
Opt for online precalculus. From experience, online shouldnt be too hard. Definitely the better option than getting the same teacher again for a harder course
Yes I would opt for that however she also makes 100 point tests and 1-5 point homework assignments meaning one bad test grade and you're done
The tests are also between 8-12 questions leaving little to no room for mistakes
Alright I'll talk to my counselor and schedule a study lab period. Also, should I add AP eng comp? I feel confident in my abilities to read and write English but not sure if I should add the extra load
If anyone has experience from the class and is able to let me know about the work load that comes with the class that would be great
ah
Am I doing good for credits? (I’m starting my Sophomore Year on Monday and there’s my current schedule)
lmk if i need to explain anything on my schedule or credits :))
AP english composition?
I took Ap Seminar and Ap Literature and Composition in my sophomore year and it was honestly a nightmare, I would just take one english class
Looks great!
my updated credits/classes list
the sad thing is that idk if i’m even going to college yet i’m trying so hard ;-;
Wait, is AP seminar considered an English class?
I thought it was just considered as an elective research class
If so I'll swap it out for something else in my schedule
Its alot of research and presentations so yeah it would be an English class
Wait it depends what do you wanna do in the future
For me since I'm trynna go into pre med so I wish I'd not taken Ap literature and Composition
I go to an arts school specialized in fine arts but I'm currently debating on either law or engineering. Unfortunately it's the best school in the county so I have no other options for stem courses. I took AP bio my freshman year and that's it in terms of stem APs.
Ah I see
We have about 12-14 AP offerings
Dang thats good lmao
Problem is we only have one stem AP
Uhh i mean ap seminar would probably be better than ap English comp for both law and engineering
Do you have experience on precalculus?
Is it required that you take ap comp?
I took honors precalc sophomore year
It was pretty hard imo
No, but colleges recommend 4 years of English and I hate honors English because of how stupid the curriculum is
That's why I rather take AP
Yeah wait then I think Ap seminar, talk to your counselor to see if Ap seminar will count as English because in most universities they do
If AP seminar is considered English and can fill the gap of a year less of English then I'll take AP Lang next year and AP lit senior
Yeah thats the move honestly
I was most worried about there being a hole in terms of English on my transcript
Nahhh u good lol
My teacher for it sucks I had her for algebra 2 and was wondering if I could pull it off online
Yo wait after ap seminar its ap research
I'll probably take research and Lang next year together
If you have the choice I would do online
Precalc sucked lmao
If I passed algebra 2 with an A with a horrible teacher do you think I could do well with precalc online?
How was your teacher in precalculus?
Bad.
Like she never prepared us enough
Literally everyone is taking it over the summer rn
Because they earned C+ or below
Same for us
We had weekly tests lol
In the 2nd semester
Which almost nobody passed with A's
And I think that explained why I had a low A in the class
Are there any ridiculous concepts in precalc I should watch out for?
If you remember any names that would be great
I'd like to look at them if possible
Yeah thats a good mindset
So projectile motion
Trigonometry formulas
Polar graphs
Those are the noticeably hard stuff
Conics
Like hyperbolas, ellipses knowing a,b,c,e(which is just c/a)
I've been trying to decide whether I should take AP Calculus AB or BC this year. If I take BC, I would only have three years of math in high school and I would take AP Econ instead. Would it be better to take both AP calc classes, for four years of math, or take only BC and then econ and only have three years of math.
I'm planning on going into engineering/astrophysics if that changes your answer
Nah it was easy
I really liked it because it required little effort from me
We did too the whole year
Those were all pretty decent
Conics were fairly simple even though no one had learned them in algebra 2
Why don’t you take a college math class?
Like dual enrollment?
Yes
do dual enrollment classes fill gaps in not taking an AP in a core subject in the eyes of top colleges?
I watched an example/explanation of a projectile motion problem and it seems straightforward
Wait are yall taking regular or honors
im going to take honors precalc
they don't offer regular classes at our school
Oh wow
I mean
in the example problem it felt like they just kept factoring
and simplifying
which didn't feel too difficult
or perhaps I just found something easier
ok ill look into dual enrollment options, are you thinking like dalc bc this year and then do a college math class via dual enrollment next year?
So next year ( junior year in about 2-3 weeks ) I’m taking apush chemistry algebra 2 Spanish 2 English 11 and health and pe 2
Senior year I don’t have to take health and pe
And intro to business and marketing I believe
And even tho I suck in Spanish I have to take it to get an advance diploma
I’m also gonna take ap Econ senior year with whatever ap comes after apush
Question is it a good idea to do yearbook/journalism in high school for my tech credits (going into 8th but my district requires a four year plan due in November and they pass them out after school starts which’s is August 23 which is the earliest date that our state will allow)
Doing journalism at my school helped me learn how to edit videos properly, but that’s about it. If you’ve got nothing better to take, go for it, it’s fun.
Ok. In this case, you’ll need to do journalism before you do yearbook/ the school newspaper and idk why so that’s why I’m asking.
I’ve never taken yearbook but I’d figure that they’d want writers to have experience with creative writing
I’ve taken it last year and it was quite fun and easy but designing the pages are quite hard too and my yearbook team got hated on for having so many mistakes which like half of it isn’t our fault cuz it was a printing issue or bc parents signed w/ the district my child can’t be in any pictures anywhere or the company just screwed up bc the yearbook company puts in the portraits for us.
rip
they’re making children who just started eighth grade create a four year plan????
Hi…I am entering grade 9!!!I wanted some help in choosing the subject
My interest
——————
- science
- maths
Anything would help!
Honors tracks for both
Double on bio and chem freshman yr or do ap stats if ur schools allows
Will do thakns
Whichever you’re interested in
i wanna take both lolll
maybe i'll take micro/macro and cs a this year, and then psych and ush next yr
since macro and micro lots of the topics are interchangeable apparently
Maybe a good idea
Ok so I’m thinking of majoring in biomedical, mechanical, or electrical engineering and i need help deciding if i should switch a course.
For some background, I am a rising senior and already have experience in science classes that I’ve passed courses such as pathophysiology/medical microbiology, regular bio, AP Bio, and regular physics, regular chem, and i plan on taking ap chem in my senior year.
Basically i wanted to decide whether i should take a python computing course elective kinda class or a genetics/bioethics class.
I think you should take the python course since it’s important to know how to code in all 3 of your desired careers.
Thank you for the advice
I already choose my classes and it was very last minute bc my school is very poorly managed. We were only given a few min to choose and weren’t told what classes we could take and I’m very confused on what to expect. So far I chose:
AP Stats
AP Art
APUSH History
AP Lit
Honor Chemistry
Link Crew/Activism(???)
I didn’t get to have much of a choice with my AP classes.
My school is also not having a block schedule anymore and I’m so stressed for this year
Yep and yes we can adjust in high school
hey
Mechanic if u like design and developing a ton electrical if you like test the electrical parts of things and biomedical is biology and healthcare combined to make all sorts of stuff so if you like that stuff go ahead
is doing biomedicial a good choice?
@grand plaza Hey! I am from the UK, going to start Year 10. I would like to know if doing is a biomedical course a good choice and what all subjects are included in the course
A lot. Found a break down of it at this website. https://leverageedu.com/blog/biomedical-engineering-syllabus/
thanks
No prob
I’m going into 9th grade and I was wondering for my second elective if I should do ap physic or band, ik thag 4 years of band looks good but I also want to get as many ap’s as possible, so any help?
Oh i just saw this
I have a question. Should I take Pre-Calc 11 over foundations? Does pre-calc give my a higher chance of getting into college?
Do whatever you enjoy or you could do 2 years of each
Only do band if you enjoy it. Please. I do band, and disliked being in it when there are people who aren't motivated by more intrinsic factors besides wanting it for a college app.
Same with any class that requires a commitment.
what?
Pre-calc ofc looks good to get into college.
I don;t know what you mean by foundations.
It depends on your major. What is foundations? If you go down the stats route and you’re not in stem, you’ll be fine
Hey guys I was wondering if I complete khan academy courses will they be accepted as real courses or do I need to go out and find payed options
Can anyone pls help
Anyone here??
If you want it to be considered as a course you have completed you need to receive a certificate of sorts which as far as I’m know khan academy doesn’t offer. However it will help you with you academics, school studies.
Ok
