dont get overconfident and try to practice more calm scenario or more intense scenarios, for example, get a bigger timer or try to find players with different playstyles (try making a new account to see how other less skilled players play to learn a bunch of different styles) and from there just lock in

I’d say try not to go too crazy with pawns in the openings (thats what the coach bot told me) always try to look for ways to develop pieces and if necessary u should move the pawns

I mean I play like a 1100 and sometimes like a 400 lmao so Uhm yeah my resources aren’t rly too reliable

And u should always review ur game too (if u don’t have premium thats 1 review a day allocated which Im sure u know of)

i got to 1600 from 1200 over the summer and only a few things really help: following basic principles of chess(develeoping pieces in the opening because I noticed you moved a lot of pawns-->move your worst piece to a better square in the middle game)
and second: see what your opponent's moves do for every move(act like they have eyes/vision)
and the most important, i still lose games because of tunnel vision(focusing on what i want instead of the opponent)

im not that good but felt like sharing what i do lol

I almost always play D4 or D6 :3 I do it cuz that way I can send a pawn to control the center while it is also protected by my queen, this also gives my bishop and queen immediate movement oppertunities should I need it and it's relatively safe since it's fully protected, it's also a nice way since most people play e4 or sum for as far as I've seen

this is probably the biggest misconception in chess. no openings give an advantage. its just a more favourable position. For example, if you play aggressively then you would favour an opening which gives you more piece activity like the sicilian does. if you prefer playing more positional, then you would play an opening like the grunfeld. so on

openings for me kind of generalize how you want the game to be shaped

there isnt an opening that give anyone an advantage, if played accurately. Its up to the players on if theyd want to change on the opening (for example, if youd play the king's pawn opening, black can choose between the scandavian, sicilian, Alekhine, etc.)

Openings can be shaped to fit your playstyle like psoitonal or tactical, dynamic or sharp, etc.

For me if you want a tactical opening choose the sicilian or vienna gambit, for a postional one choose like the caro-kann/QGD and for white you can choose the ruy lopez (be-warned, the ruy lopez is pretty theory heavy)

basically, if you're white and your pawn is on the 5th rank (which is on the number 5), and black moves a pawn that has not been moved yet; as in they move it 2 squares such that it is next to your pawn, for one move you can actually take the pawn and move to the square behind it. Its almost like instead of moving 2 squares, they moved 1 square and you captured it.

similarly for black, if the pawn on the 5th rank (for black its the number 4), then they can do it too. The only thing to keep it mind is that it cannot be done when the pawn is pinned to the king (which would be an illegal move), and it cannot be done on the 2nd move after it was played. If you want to en passant, you have to do it immediately.

I disagree with the idea that solving puzzles helps develop skill because in puzzles you know there is a good move versus a real game. But I guess it varies by player.

The puzzles do help a bit, but not in the way you think. The puzzles don’t help you make it into a good move nor do they help you learn how to move. But the main part of the puzzles is how fast you can identify a good move. Which in my opinion, if you have 10 minutes on the clock, it’s super important. (And yes, this is coming from a very bad chess player)
