okay so basically im doing a lab rn for springs constant

what we did was we attached a turntable to a motor, setup a track on the turntable and rotated a cart on the track while keeping it anchored to the centre with a spring

the idea is to measure the angular velocity of the turntable using the extension in the spring

and the entire experiment was off because the turntable was wobbling

so i spent like 2 days working it out and i got the exact value

need help builkding my repertoire
for white im decently comfortable playing the vienna and on off days i play the ponziani
with black against e4 i play the caro kann but against d4 i dont really have a solid opening
i want an opening which dosent really deviate from the playstyle of my other openings, but is also obscure enough to take the opponent out of prep
dont want it to be too offbeat tho, then it usually leads to losing positions

i know my criteria might be a little too tight, but anything resembling the above would be appreciated

you might just wanna learn to play the slav. the thing is against d4, you can still play c6 and hope for e4 d5 and ur back into the caro kann. but if they play c4, then d5 and its a slav. the thing is there isnt any opening exacctly which usually leads to losing positions as long as you know what you're doing. slav is kind of problematic though because it leads to locked positions. if you want to play an open game, id recommend grunfeld but its too theoretical, so maybe nimzo indian

oh also, it really depends on your level of chess understanding too as to which opening you prefer. at most levels the dutch is also favourable as long as you study it

positional play, and opening theory. firstly, playing openings up to a certain theoretical standpoint becomes increasingly important. and its not just for openings that you play, its for openings that are more common at that level like the spanish or sicilian. also, positional play is just so important 1800 and higher, its the key factor in almost every middlegame

agree, and adding on make sure to continue to think ahead even further, at 1800 I’d say you should be able to think 3-4 moves ahead in depth, and maybe 5-6 moves ahead in one line

make sure you don’t get caught up in your thinking and keep an eye on time

also, if you’re playing in person there might be tells to watch out for — body language can give away a lot.
