i would say the main thing (for me, at least) is practice. don't memorize lots of stuff if you aren't at least 800 elo. also practice with a coach because they can show you good tactics in a real game.

Sadly, @unkempt sand is right. You can't learn much in a day. BUT, there is a way to learn it in the next year if you have time.

1. do 2 puzzles / day on chess.com for 4 months
2. do 4 puzzles / day for 2 months
3. do 8 puzzles / day for a months
4. do 16 puzzles / day for 2 weeks

etc.

until you get

to solve what you solved

in 4 months

in A DAY

(speaking from personal experience, might not be the best way, but it is effective)

your brain will start noticing patterns from puzzles when you play against other people
