omg finally
yayyy
Im in my first year of GCSEs, my school do it a year early so im year 9 and some of the course stuff is rly confusing lol
especially computer science
bbc bitesize is my best friend
has anyone found any other good resources that we can use for GCSEs? Just because lots of websites and apps are based on the american school system
Even though it’s not GCSE, khan academy is always good for a general understanding of stuff
ok, thanks
im yr 11, so if you have any questions ask away
bitesize is for notes. best way to actually revise and learn is to do past papers
that should be your best friend
Ok thanks for the help
dm me if you want any help or useful links
ok thxxx
Pdfdrive.com
Write cgp on search bar
There is pdf revision guides for chemistry, biology and physics free to download. Just use an adblock prior to visiting the website.
Apparently they added a maths revision guide too
Anyways, free resources for revision
This section includes recent GCSE exam past papers for many GCSE subjects.
Website for all kinds of past gcse papers
what is gcse
General certification of secondary education
is it the a levels
It is not American
So it doesn’t really affect us
It mainly is in Europe
Oh it’s a exam that you have to pass to graduate
ik
its kind of like icse
in india
what course`/
whats gcse
General certificate of secondary education
This is literally my Christmas present I'm so happy this exists
Computer science lol
Oh thank god this exists now
They need to make an IB and MYP channel
ib channel fr
nope it's the stage right before the A Levels
i took econ in my igcse's yep :)
Did you find it hard coz this stuff makes no sense?
at first it was yep but slowly as i solved more of the past papers it became quite easier 😅 i got a 9 in it as well :D
and an A Levels please
Yes
And maybe
Examp prep channels for more than AP and SAT
like ACT, LSAT, UCAT, BMAT, MCAT
idk some more Ts
😂 yep that sounds great
Glad I'm not the only one feeling like it's overly hard
Nah it's just econ
What's econ? Economy?
Oh
I take triple science, maths, english lang, lit, RE, computing, 3d design and spanish
And i already did french and turkish gcse's
Taking math, lang, geo, physics, chem, psych, comp and econ
Doing psych and chem in MJ 2023
Exams*
Yup
mine has psychology but they only introduced it this year

yeah but my teachers just threw us into the deep end and i have to study after school to actually understand it 😭
well i did edexcel but i may be able to help u out
what does this chat do?
Help in gcses
yeh wassup
its for british exams
What is GSCE

cya
Cool same
nice!
ayy same 😂
niiice
dayum so many how did u manage 😂
can i have some advice for that as i’m struggling rn😭 and also i take business and geography which for business i don’t know how to structure my answers
i’m also doing 11 subjects🫢🫢
yeh nine is average i think
what did you search to find those books? i tried that website but it keeps coming up with american cgp books, even when i type gcse
Should I take accounting
I did 2 in yr10 with the ppl that got it easy bcz of covid
I just typed:
CGP on the search bar, not gcse.
Then they come up
If u want can send u pdf's
Are u doing igcse or gcse? Im not fully sure if the syllabi are the same but i have some notes from my igcse fpm stuff which might be helpful 👀Also good luckk!
Ohh
Most people here took 8 or 9, but most who took 9 ended up dropping two somehow 💀💀💀
Yh
What year r u in?
OH yeah small advice for igcse or gcse :)
try printing out 2012 to 2018 papers, whenever ur done with any chapter in maths or physics or anything really, solve the questions for those chapters in those papers as soon as u can, trust me it helps soooooo much
And once ur done with all the chapters, go do the 2018 to 2022 (latest) papers
Just gave my igcses this june session
Oo which subjects are u taking
Maths, it and ta
Whats ta?
Oo thatt, good luck mate
yes please, the ones i’m looking for in particular is edexcel maths and aqa fm
i’m doing gcses, and yes any notes would be appreciated
😭😭 i’m taking maths, english lit, lang, triple science (they decide at the beginning of y11 but i’m in the highest set so it’s likely i’ll be doing it), spanish geography, rs, business and fm
Cambridge igcses?
nop the pearson edexcel one
Ah
Sure
I'm only familiar with Cambridge igcses lol
Gave 3 subjects in the June session
Giving a further 7 (might drop one) again on June session in 2023
good luck
howd ur 3 go this year
which exam board?
ayy congratss
Tyty
I give A levels afterwards
By that I mean in 2024
Though I still have problems on which subjects to choose
yeah it's a big pain
It is
Considering I don't really know what to do in the future
My strong points are definitely CS and business
business- pearson
geography- eduqas b
i dunno if i can help too much coz i did edexcel for both
@buoyant steeple are u doing the edexcel ial as well
pearson is edexcel
and i got a 3 on a 9 mark question bc case studies confuse me
so i rlly wanna improve
hi
im stuggling to choose between gcse art or dt, since i could only choose one considering my school doesnt allow me to do three creative subjects if i do drama as well
struggling*
anyone done those? what are they like
hmmm which part specifcally?
like i can help out with questions
what r ur interests
i did drama and i hated it
luckily i got it changed to geo in time
structuring 6/9 mark questions
could you send a ss of a question, its been a while
^ sem
What's the point of igcse
its the international general certificate of secondary education its basically the international gcses (the exams in the uk)
basically it gives you a lot of possibilities bc it proves youre able to do certain things that are required to pass
Is it required for big universities such as Cambridge or Oxford ?
idk but i think there are equivalents of the (i)gcses so you could do one of those (but the main thing is the IB Diploma/A Levels)
Yeah but what you do if you can't have IB Diploma because your High School isn't an international HS ?
whats your country?
France.
okok so well
whats the thing you need to pass to be able to graduate? thats the ib thing
ib is just the final course from grade 11 and grade 12
what course are you doing rn?
Good luck in ib it’s a pain dw you got this (I’m a fellow ib alumni)
bro im doing ib in two years and im scared shitless i have to take AT LEAST three hl 😭
It's called baccalauréat in France
Le bac.
yes
Like I will start it for now and, I hope, finish it at 12th grade
im going to say that its the equivalent of the ib/a levels so if your scores on that are good enough you could get in
my mum is french and i go there a lot
Yeah, thank you !
np
Oh, nice !
can i friend req you
Oh yeah, off course !
thank you lol
Hi@karmic swift @plain grail
Hi !
How are you?
Im pretty sad, what about you ? 🙃
Sad and studying maths for exam
What is a gcse
It’s like a examination you have to take to pass
Mainly in England
Or the UK
where you from? I can try and explain it in the country your from
O LEVELS
Hey fellow person who is also giving o levels
isn't that what it was called before it was named to GCSE's?
Idk but some schools still say "O levels & A levels"
Lol I am actually in a levels
Yeah
O
I see
There's also Cambridge o levels
Which is mostly in south Asia
I go to a levels after the May June session 2023
Nice!
a levels is after your gcse
the one im going to in sept of 2023
i have no idea bout south asain education
actually thats a lie. im indian I know a tiny bit about it
i answered it and got a 3/9 and my teacher said i need to make my answer less generic, and structure it better
but she didn’t give a model answer so i don’t know what to aim for
Teachers
If you have the right answer
when was this channel made? 😭😭I love it
Like 2 days ago
My teacher always told me to keep the business in my mind when answering case study questions. Refer to the business as much as you can. For example; instead of writing "product" which is generic, write what the product of the business is. Mention what the business is about where appropriate. After that, you should also work on giving analysis on the point you specified by drawing conclusions or it's effect on the business.
For example;
"Introducing bonuses for employees may motivate them which leads to increased efficiency and productivity resulting in more units produced"
Referring to certain parts of the case study also makes the answer less generic
I'm not exactly giving GCSEs, rather in my country we have o levels although our syllabuses and mark schemes are almost similar
I would suggest you to look at your mark scheme and syllabus as they help you to identify what earns marks in an answer
thank you so much!
No problem
I would also suggest asking for recommendations or reading someone's answer who's scored better marks
ok so in business u have different types of structres for different questions
like justify/compare/explain etc
this should help
when it means strands, it means continuing from ur point, im sure ur familiar with PEE paragraphs
Omg I was looking for one of these
thank you sm!
any idea where i can get model answers? or should i just rewrite it and hand it in again
Wait I thought you are not taking the gsce
i already know about it
im from the UK
do u get answer sheet? that would be the best place to go in terms of checking content of ur answer
i moved from the UK to Canada
ooo how long have you been here if you dont mind me asking?
no we didn’t get one
all bruv
Hey guys, I will be honest, I dont do GCSE but my curriculum is almost identical and want to know, from your own resources or elsewhere, where can I find tests to practice/learn vector calculus for the highest maths class I do, Electromagnetism and Gravity for physics and Equilibrium, Acids and Redox Reactions for chemistry. Thanks
also on the same note
we usually have to write up 2 practical reports for chem and physics, we have basically the same curriculum so anyone who has done those topics, what was the most important prac that you did, probably the required practical but I cant find the equivalent for me, so I can research it and start my introduction before school starts in feburary because I struggle and hate introductions
What class is this
Yeah that’s what it’s like I tooom 4 HL and 3 SL
If you guys want a server fully dedicated server to gcse stuff which I found really useful. dm me, so that I can send u the link
ima get banned if I send it here
Guys most people say that top colleges expect you to take history
But i didn't take history in the igcse
Is that okay
im assuming that it depends on the courses ur taking
I took ict, comp sci
Chem
Physics
Business
Maths
English
I might also give so additional papers
I took
Maths
English Lang & Lit
Triple Science
DT
Computer Science
RE
Geography
thats 20 papers I need to sit. in total
What is DT ans RE?
DT = Design Technology
RE = Religious Education
RE is compulsary
Oh ok
I took maths, eng lit, eng lang, phys, chem, bio, art, spanish, computer science and business
i dropped spanish after doing it for like 2 months
triple science?
and u got to pick 3 extra of ur choice?
and RE ain't compulsary for you?
it's a must for students in england
nah im in Qatar so we do igcse
what is gsce
final exams
20 huh. I have 7 subjects with 16 papers total (o levels btw not gcse), and I'm thinking of dropping one of the subjects (history) just because Im not good at writing, explaining, and analyzing points for the answer. Plus I struggle with writing long answers in the first place
i moved here in august
Woah cool
how hard are gcse exams?
O levels are gcses
They're not exactly the same
well i do igcses which r slightly different to o levels
There's a slight difference in the syllabuses and paper structure is also very different
You do gcse of igcse?
I've checked out gcse stuff before btw
At least for the subjects I'm giving
Igcses which r different to gcses
Cambridge igcses or?
Not that hard tbh
As long as you understand the content well
ok thanks
ty ty
Have u tried checking the markschemes online?
i don’t know where it’s from
Theyre quite easy once u get used to the questioning patterns for each subject xD
I meant like checking questions from past papers online and reading the answer from its markscheme alongside so maybe u could get an idea? Sorry if i misinterpreted:p
Hi guys,Im in yr 10 and i need help in English as ive only been getting grade 5s and 6s have u guys got any tips
I suggest you should start reading some material outside of your assignments and past year papers.
You can try exploring books, both fiction and non-fiction, newspapers, online articles, etc.
In addition to that, you can try watching shows and films, with the subtitles on, to get an idea of how dialogue plays out.
You can also have formal and or casual conversations with other English-speaking people to better build your confidence in English.
Another thing you can try to do is build up your vocabulary by listing down new and interesting words that you come across.
^
I’m stuck on my geography homework
Any tips on what to take for GCSE's im taking history, computer science, need 1 more. I wanna be a solicitor. Then after 5years of experience do law for the RAF.
pure math
yeah maths b or pure maths would really help u develop ur problem solving skills and quick thinking stuff
u could honestly take physics as well, as some of the knowledge from there could help u with ur cases, etc with the RAF
bio works well too, chem as well
I had a headache reading that 💀
For part (a), realise that OA=OD=OB=10
OD = OC+CD
10 = OC + r
OC = 10-r
Will top colleges penalise me for not taking history in the igcses?
I think it depends on what course you are considering
For part (b) you have to realise that angle OEC is a right angle triangle because OE is a tangent to the circle. What this means is that you can use trigonometry to find OC.
It's a similar case for angle OFC. You can now find OC in terms of r and a trigonometric ratio.
sinθ = EC/OC
EC = r
sinθ = r/OC
OC = r/sinθ
So use the answer from part (a) and combine it with what we have so far.
OC = 10-r, and
OC = r/sinθ
10-r = r/sinθ
10sinθ - rsinθ = r
10sinθ = r - rsinθ
10sinθ = r(1-sinθ)
r = 10sinθ/(1-sinθ)
Hence, shown.
For part (c), you need to differentiate the equation. Use the quotient rule:
dr/dθ = {(1-sinθ)[10cosθ]-(10sinθ)[-cosθ]}/{(1-sinθ)^2}
Or maybe this is about the chain rule
Wait..
Meh nevermind
Continuing with r=10/3
10-10/3=(10/3)/sinθ
20/3=(10/3)/sinθ
2=1/sinθ
sinθ=1/2
θ=arccos(0.5)
θ=π/6
Just plop this into dr/dθ and you should have an answer
A bit of button mashing later you get dr/dθ = 40 and that will be your answer for part c
Now for part (d) you have dr/dt=2, dr/dt = dr/dθ × dθ/dt
You are given dr/dt and we have dr/dθ, so you should be able to find dθ/dt quite easily from there
It's 1/20 or 0.05 radians per second
oh ic my mistake was differentiating sinθ to -cosθ but i got confused coz its supposed to be just cosθ, and d/dx[cosθ] is -sinθ not the other way around
alr thnx for the help appreciate it
wait i got a diff answer for (d)
coz isnt the step to use chain rule and dr/dθ would be the value you get by substituting θ = pi/6, into the eq
pt (c) and (d) use diff values
They both use π/6 so dr/dθ should still be the same
I've taken
Computer Science
ICT
Maths
English
Chemistry
Physics
Business
I Have a question, The mocks test are coming so are they hard? (am in year 10) and also what can i do to get a lot of marks
Not the course you are taking now but rather what courses will you be taking in your tertiary and further education studies.
Basically, what will you consider for your GCEs/A-levels and your undergraduate studies.
If history is very important for those studies, then it would be useful to have history.
If not, then you might want to consider taking subjects that are better suited for your future studies.
Well to begin with, mock exams are 'mock' exams. They are meant to be as close as possible to the actual GCSEs. If you want to score high as possible, I would suggest that you begin doing past year papers, you can find a lot of these online.
These papers serve as good practise;
- It allows you to be familiarised with the style of questions the GCSEs will ask,
- It will also help you identify gaps in your knowledge.
- The marking schemes it provides also allows you to see the different points and answers the GCSEs would accept for a particular question
But remember this, make sure you do these papers following the time allocated. Meaning if the paper lasts for 1 hour, make sure that, when you are doing the practice, you complete the paper under 1 hour.
the past papers from the beginning of september?
To be honest, May/June or Oct/Nov, both are valid and be useful
ok
During my O-levels and A-levels, I've done past year papers from May June and Oct Nov
alright
ok nice thank you very much its gonna be very helpful
dont worry i will make sure i will pass them👍 .and merry Christmas
Happy Holidays
im not sure but the answer key said 3√3/10
That's odd, let me double check my working
It's been a few months since I've touch maths
Yeah I blindly used the previous drdθ value, after subbing π/6 I got 20 - 5sqrt(3)
For dr/dθ that is
That means dθ/dt is 2/(20 - 5sqrt(3)) which needs to be rationalise
Give me a moment
Yeah there's still something quite wrong
I'll most likely be pursuing computer science
Wrong channel for it
What does gcse mean?
GCSE: General Certificate of Secondary Education
IGCSE: International General Certificate of Secondary Education
why are there 2 different ones lmao
Not sure but perhaps one is for the UK states and the other is for the international students outside the UK.
Things are very weird, there are a large number of exam boards in the UK and not every student takes the exact same exam.
hmmm interesting i see
Gcses are for UK students and igcses are for international students
I did GCSEs but Im not in the UK
Did it from UAE
Got an 8 in maths :)
You sure you didn't just do the igcses?
I'm pretty sure my certificate said GCSEs
Haha thanks
Np lol
I just checked my certificate and religious studies had IGCSE written on it but the rest were GCSEs
Did you take the exams in the uk but live in the uae?
Also I'm really sorry bc my WiFi is shit
Nah everything was done in UAE, in my school.
My school was licenced to conduct exams
I can dm u my certificate if u wanna see
Sure
I know but why do they need two different ones
Why can’t it just be gcses for all
They're a bit different and the igcses are done by only Oxford I think so.... but also jts similar just the international version yk
Theyre done more than the pearson ones here and it's taking over the pearson one gradually xd
Cambridge igcse is quite good tho from what ive heard from my friends who took it
Cambridge igcses and Cambridge o levels are basically the same thing, I wonder why they aren't just merged into a single one
And from what I've seen, Cambridge ones seem more tough in terms of the syllabus and paper structure
Hmm true, here we refer to igcses as o levels as well im not sure why
Yepp cambridge igcse is tougher than the pearson one
But that makes their a levels easier than the pearson
Also ngl man i might be tripping but im finding my A Levels so much easier than my IGCSEs and everyones asking me if i went mad 💀💀💀
Is it the same with u hopefully 💀
Bro my relatives are asking me if im sure that i bought all the books LOL 💀
Ah yess pain, what are u planning to study for undergrad?
Still doing o levels but in 6 months I'll be in a levels
That's the problem, idk what I wanna pursue 😭😭
One of my teachers gave quite a good list of subject combos for the basic undergrad courses ppl usually take like engineering, medicine, pharmacy, business, economics etc
If u want it
I'm a science student and I don't see a future in science 😭😭
Oop dont worry im sure youll find ur place soon enoughh, good luck for ur o levels till now xd
Only took science as my subject because I used to enjoy science
I'm open to any and every suggestion
That is, until I find the right combo
Damn thats sad 😔 what are u enjoying nowadays
CS so far has been a blast
Okiee ill dm it to u tomorrow since it's like half past 1 am rn 😂
And business studies is also fun
Aightt, have a good night man
Ayy thats greatt
Thanks you too!
My subjects rn are:-
Physics
Chem
CS
Maths
English
History
Business studies
Business studies, CS and maths are definitely my favorite to learn altho I'm not the best at math
Oh yeaa so my friend's brother got into Hong Kong City Uni with a full scholarship for CS, he took Maths physics and chem in his A Levels, just fyi xD maybe u could take the combo and additionally take CS if u wanna as the 4th subject :D if ur going for CS
I see
I believe I understand why now, some courses are unique and only offered by certain countries. I believe this to be true especially for religious studies and languages.
IGCSEs refer to GCSEs that were made by educational bodies outside of the UK.
Damnn how come only 7 subjects, we have to do atleast 9
I gave 3 subjects in may/ june this year
The minimum is 5 subjects and it varies depending on your school and country
Ohh I see
Yeah I did 11 when I was doing my GCSEs
thats a lott fr
Lol thats so much, gcses or igcses
Oh I did 2 languages incorporated in those 11
Thing is I wish I could’ve done another language
But like my school be annoying lol
Which languages did you do? I only do Spanish cuz we only have 1 option
damn imagine but thats really cool plus bonus of variety and academic challenge for uni apps
Ahh alright i mean i only know 2 languages and then spanish so not bothered
Cool college lol. Didnt you sit those exams?
Ohh nvm you didnt
Arent C1 C2s etc fluency levels?
I did Spanish and Chinese
Wow thats a lot of languages
Wait so how many languages can you speak?
Me being bilingual👀
Theres a guy in my class who can speak like 6 or 7 languages💀
你不会说汉语?
Jesus Christ man
Yeah I had a teacher who was fluent in like 10-12 languages or some shit idk
Imagine lmao
But it was crazy
Hui 会
It means can (but for abilities)
Like I can speak Chinese
我会说汉语
Basics is better than nothing tbh
Yep
But I’m rusty coz I’ve been doing Spanish at uni and left Chinese for a bit
I remember 100,000,000 is 亿 yi
Funny coz 一 is also yi, which is one lol
What is gcse?
you guys think sparxmaths its a good website to study maths?
I was gonna say something about that lmao
I remembered so many times when guys in my class said 不有 and my teacher got so pissed lmfao
wo meiyou gongzuo danshi wo qu xuexiao
I would add a 有(you) before the qu xuexiao
So it'd be like I don't have a job but I do go to school
沒Mei
Hello for GCSEs what did you lot take ?
Okay thanks do you enjoy religious studies?
Well done
I don’t take any yet because I am waiting for my option list and blocks so I am planning on taking
Religious Studies
PE
Business
Art
Physics, biology and chemistry I have to take same with English and maths
Is there any subject that you would advice not to take?
I know but I am not sure for art, plus I would take history and geography but I am not strong in those subjects, french I am rubbish at and my french teacher told me that if I took french it would have to be foundation so that’s a no
History
Geography
Music
French
Food tech
ICT/computer science
I have been told by many people that it is very hard and they struggled with it
Okay
I am not sure
Computer science is the subject I'm the best at rn tbh
Damn
Idk how the grading system works for GCSEs
Music i have to play an instrument and it has to be at least level 3
Food tech loads of adults have said to me not to take it
I'm giving Cambridge o levels and the syllabus is pretty much the same
Wow
I see
We have A* - E in o levels
Same
I gave 3 back in may/june
I scored 2 A*s and 1 A
Nice
Physics is also my weak point
Even though I like to learn physics
Is it me but do you hate physics?
That’s because you are good at maths and some of the context is maths
What???
Lucky
You would get a 9 in that easily
What year group did you lot start your GCSEs ?
Hopefully you get all 9s
Year 9
Year 8
Year10
In the UK you would normally start in year 10
If not year 9
For me i choose my opinions blocks in year 9 and start in year 10
For ICT what is the main context and what do you do in GCSEs?
Oh sorry what do you do in computing ?
K
hi
I don't understand GCSE AQA Chemistry
Can someone tell me how to balance an equation?
Count the number of atoms for each element on both sides of the equation and see the modifications you can do to make them equal
It's better to learn from examples for this so do you have any specific examples you'd like me to show you
hey what's the book name
do you have a softcopy? sorry for the ping
thanks, gimme a ping when you see it
did yall get the advanced infos
100% of our accounting, physics and chem exam came from what they said would come in the advanced infos XD
same with english (the essay types)
What questino do u need help with? what have you tried
how can i do better in my exams maths gsces? (in year 10) and also what you guys can recommend me when i have to revise for a test
Practice past year papers. There are entire websites dedicated to them and they are very useful.
When you do them often, you will see your mistakes and you can then review your mistakes and learn from them.
From there you can become quite familiar and can perform much better in your exams.
cool can you tell me a website with past papers?
It depends on your examboard
Are you doing AQA? Edexcel? WJEC, CIE?
Maybe OCR?
For Edexcel you can check out the Pearson Qualifications website for past papers
yea
ok
am doing edexcel in my school
You can also check out Revisionmaths.com
Nice
Make sure you put in some practice every few days and you should get the hang of it
You can also maybe try out some textbooks with repeated exercises
They really helped me when I was doing my O levels
is it?
At the time I was using a copy of a maths textbook from Singapore which I found extremely helpful
really?
I didn't take history for O levels
Yes, I found it tremendously helpful
cool
I am interested in history but I didn't take it as a subject
Unfortunately
I might have done well in it though
ok what year are you in?
uff
am year 10
but am good t maths
ok
i can help you
but in english i cant bcs my english is trash
are you in higer in science?
ok i would try to help you in maths
DM are you going to school in the uk ?
So let's have a look at the top half: 34 people do 10 or more hours of lessons and 28 of those people pass the exams. This means the number people who fail the exams are = 34 - 28
I'm an international student
wow
But I studied for GCSEs
I don't live nor live in the UK though
Nice! Thats the answer for that circle
ow but the thing that you are studing its similar?
Now focus on the bottom half of the tree, we know that there are 50 students in total and 34 of which studied 10 hours or more, that means the number of students who studied less than 10 hours is = 50 - 34
ow in my school they didnt teach me that
I have actually completed my O levels a few years back, I also completed my a levels not too long ago and now I will be aiming for a career in medicine
cool
Though the journey there is very rough
So much competition
Hello yugen
It's been a bit quiet for a while
I'm hanging out here cuz I've got some time to spare
How's your academic journey?
Why? Did you take a nontraditional route?
@haughty tartan
Hello
which one i have to revise?
That sucks to hear man
higher
Do the higher ones
but there are 3 of them
cool 👍
I studied under the Cambridge exams so I'm not too familiar with Edexcel
I've also done a few OCR papers
It's the most popular I've heard
I think I used to own a copy of an edexcel textbook
But I'm not sure where exactly I kept it
I must've misplaced it somewhere
It varies depending on the person in question
I believe that students just need to get the idea in order for them to do quite well
And some kids get the picture quite fast
Have you made any considerations on what career you might want to pursuit in the future?
Yes, it's a nuisance yet it's necessary in a number of subjects
Might want to check out cybersecurity
Pay over passion or passion over pay? It's an old question
I believe that passion should drive one's pursuit of knowledge but pay should be the reasoning factor
I wanted to do maths but I know that there are not many career options down that road
One of my friends are studying Maths in Oxford at the time being
If you want to study CS in Cambridge, I recommend you check their website
It's important to have a head start
Also, I believe that you need to start a few projects if you want to get Cambridge's attention
Normally, yes.
But academics is only part of the battlr
You are not the only candidate applying to Cambridge
Good selection but you need to do well in all subjects
You also need good supporting extracurriculars
I am not entirely sure
I took Bio, Chem, Phys and Maths for my A levels
Can you derive what are the qualities that make you unique in those ECA?
Because when I was doing my applications, they tore me apart
Yes I had the grades, but they wanted more
I recommend dropping the physics but if you really want it to support your application its optional
Though they will usually only look at the top 3 subjecfs
My experience with physics a level is aloooooooooot of memorisation
Like, a whole damn lot
Definitions, principles, laws, when laws are rendered invalid, etc
They do hand you the formula sheet but it doesn't help all that much
Wow
Good, you will need all of this for your personal statement
I used to be you
But then I started regretting my choice after the first year
But physics taught me how to study
I made flashcards, summaries, flowcharts, etc
Hello
@haughty tartan what did you take for GCSEs?
It was a good experience and I scored an A* which is nice
But I think I would've passed on it if I had known better
Took the three basic sciences, maths, additional maths, English, religious studies, and two languages I rather not talk about
Okay
I believe so but it doesn't look too good
But then again, universities shouldn't care too much
If that's the case then you are free to try
You are a workaholic and that makes you perfect for 4 subjects
Hmm
I don't think you are
Okay
I studied further maths during my free time and it was an up step from the maths we've learnt in GCSEs
It's interesting but I wouldn't like to be tested on it
That's where self-discipline and self-control is needed
That's something you NEED in university life
Especially if you want to get things done
Yes
When you are in Uni, no one is going to tell you what to do but yourself
And that's why a lot of people who aren't prepared drop out
Yes, that's something I've come across not long ago
We lack the concept of efforts
Here's another misconception, studying long periods of time is not really effective
A lot of studies had been conducted where it has been proven to be linked with poor retention
sorry, do you still need the help?
Yes, that may be true but it's not forever
Eventually you will hit a road block
It's a scary feeling because I came across that road block during covud
Yes but you have to remember that in Uni, your courses last a good few years and you kinda have to be able to use knowledge from the start of your course
I don't want to be the guy who has to study 3 years worth of content in 3 nights
It's a very dangerous game
I've felt that before
It's a very satisfying feeling
But at the same time, it's a bad habit of sorts
But from the way I see things, you are more than capable of achieving your goal
Just need to develop bit by bit over time
Well maybe you should just press on and continue to study outside of school
You can pick up Harvard's CS50 course for free on EdX
That may be true but some people have a slower learning pace
It's true. Although I want to avoid becoming a teacher, I wish I could help them somehow
True
I understand that when I become a doctor, I would inevitably become a teacher to incoming med students but that's in like maybe 6 years?
Maybe a few more considering that I have to climb the ranks
When I was attending my GCSE studies, we had such a system where the smarter kids were grouped and students that were less academically able were grouped together.
Yes professors and lecturers do teach medicine but when you enter residency you will be mentored by doctors themselves
True but we can't really do anything about it even if we complain ghe school won't do anything
Well now, maybe you can use your current time to your advantage
There are loads of things you can try out
You don't have to wait for your teacher. You can start doing it with a simple online course or a book from the library.
They don't approach you because you are smart. At the end of the day it is you pushing yourself to be the best.
I taught myself some basic introductory calculus in my O levels before learning it in school using a textbook.
Your o level additional maths is the same as the basic a level maths so you are right on that part
You can try some online videos maybe in that case
Oops sorry wrong reply
Have you learnt any differentiation or integration?
Perhaps any polynomials or expansions?
I see
Well there are courses available on YouTube
Very helpful when I first started
My first hiccup was my first additional maths test
I scored a 35/100
But in the end I've managed to improve to a solid 95
I do have a few recommendations
Everyone knows Khan Academy, his video and his app helps a whole lot
It's structured in a way that you can see it as a daily lesson plan
If you need further content, you can try OrganicChemTutor
This algebra video tutorial explains how to graph a quadratic function given the vertex and y-intercept. It also explains how to write the quadratic function as well as how to find the x-intercepts of the parabola.
Best you go with the precalc or calc course
I haven't touched his app in a while
It's entirely up to you
It's your freefom
I am not sure because I mostly used Khan for biology and physics
I taught myself maths using a textbook
I don't recommend skipping
You might learn something you didn't know before
It's nice to see that you are very passionate about your studies
I don't see that many students that interested in well
Studying in general
Where I'm from, we had a lot of students studying the bio chem maths combination but surprisingly they all expressed their distastes in the subjects
It really is
Though I wish I had done more arts
For me I had chess, reading and writing as my hobbies
Jogging if that counts
Though my elo is stuck at 1100 for chess
It's been a solid 6 years
Haven't put much elbow grease into my chess
Not because I don't have time but because I'm not so competitive
It is my leisure activity
Yo I have those moments
There are some moments where you just have a struck of luck and then in the next it's all gone
Nah maybe you are good at chess
I started playing around the age of 12 and I have only played competitively once
Anyways, I gtg
I was supposed to go jogging bout half an hour ago
Kinda lost track of time
Lmao
Cya
And best of luck with your studies
Hi for religious studies gcse what did you lot do in it and what do you study?
Christianity and Islam
But we also do philosophy and ethics as the last bit of studying before revision
As a Muslim myself, I could help you out with Islam related stuff if need be
I am a Muslim as well
But thanks if needed help i will ask
Ah
K thanks
Man i didnt know this server does gcse
Guys what is gcse
GCSE stands for the 'General Certificate of Secondary Education'. It is a standardised examination taken based in the UK that is taken by students all around the world.
In the United States, the equivalent to GCSEs is typically the high school diploma, which is awarded to students upon completing high school.
Wait so you mean if you get that you can skip remaining high school years
Noice
I’m should consider it
Should start preparing
Nvm I guess won’t work
But can United States kids take it just for fun?
Remaining years of high school?
Yes
Sorry but I don't understand
Nah I meant if it is equal to diploma so we can skip high school at a point since that is given after graduating with years and credits
GCSEs last for 2-3 years and is taken by 15-16 year old students
I'm not so familiar with the US education system so I apologise for that
No problem and thx for being helpful
Hmm makes sense
I believe through a private institution
If you pursuit GCE A-levels, I believe it would be closely similar to your AP exams with slight differences
Hmm make sense cause I think they are kinda equivalent to a associate degree
Nice I will try looking for it,won’t hurt to increase more achievements and would entertain me
Nice but be wary, don't spread yourself thin
Sometimes it will be useful to fo down one path rather than two
Hmm still quite intriguing 🧐
What I'm trying to say is, make sure your ambitions do not hinder your performance
Just stay cautious and study well
Hmm thx mate and you study well too
Hi if anyone here is taking sociology I’m stuck on a question I haven’t been able to answer for a while since I literally don’t know the answer, the question is,
To what extent do ethical issues influence the way sociological research is carried out.
This question is a 15 mark
If only my philosophy degree can help a sociology question for gcse
Hey guys does someone have hacks for english gcse
Literature or language?
Or poetry?
Or all of it 🤣
Need these aswell istg
is music GCSE worth taking

Gave 3 this year, giving 7 in may/june
I'm doing 1 o level and 6 igcses

Oh-
I'm doing 2 in Feb/march and 5 in May June
Ah

I'll do my as level in 2024
That takes lots of weight off your shoulders
I'm in grade 10 rn
ya
Yep same
btw which city?
Karachi
kk
Wbu
lahore
Nice
Which subs do u plan on doing for as level?
umm, me?
No idea LOL
oh ok
I would assume he's asking me because I go into A levels pretty soon
We had to plan it like last month wOt 😭😭
kkk
Yeah uh it's a pretty difficult decision for me
I have thought but I can't decide
btw, i will take sciences, maths, further maths and ict
We can only choose certain option
Or u can't join uni in my country
U need to take specific subject combinations
why not go abroad?
Depending on what course you'll take in uni
I'm gon do that
oh
Well idk how it works here but I would assume certain combinations are most suitable to get into a uni. For example you're going towards computer science but in A levels you chose computer science, English, and law. This really doesn't make a good combo to get into a CS field
👌
If ur going for cs in my country u gotta take English, math, chem, physics, ict/comp sci
k
For CS field I would probably say a combo of CS, maths, and physics is most suitable
Plus I've heard doing further math also makes a good impression in a uni
Yeah but due to the subject combinations here chem and eng is also required
India
I see
@warped sluice We've got a scam bot here
Hanging above where couples meet,
A green garland that’s quite sweet.
It’s Christmas time, and love’s in the air,
A kiss below is a festive affair.
