Let’s say it’s 1 life left assassin vs brute and the assassin attacks and then uses flick knives. I assume that damage just goes through immediately before the defending brute player has a chance to play and resolve reckless swing but I wanted to double check.

It's an ability that goes onto the stack and only resolves once both players pass priority in succession. The brute can play reckless swing before flick knives resolves

Priority has to be passed sequentially for a layer to resolve. If turn player (Tyler) activates Flick Knives, non-turn player (Nic) has a chance to respond with Reckless Swing before Flick Knives resolves

What if the assassin then responds with another reaction like “throw dagger” after the brute plays reckless swing? Or does the reckless damage happen before that’s possible since it’s tied to the cost

Reckless swing's damage happens on resolution of reckless swing
